Review Red Petite - Melbourne

Definitely in love with this thai restaurant, it’s kind of hidden from the street, but they do have a big windows , purple neon sign in the front. Creamy Tom Yam was a little bit sweet, but it’s tasty so good. love it. money bag was a good entree as well. prawn dumpling are fine. Duck curry was so creamy, so rich, duck was tender , perfect with the Coconut rice. don’t forget to dp Pad see Eew, thick rice noodle with chicken, yumm~

Very nice service and incredible tasty food at such reasonable prices! We had the pad thai and tom yum soup which were both very tasty and the portions were very generous. I even have leftovers for tomorrow :) We will be back to try the rest of the menu ❤️

One of the best Thai restaurants I have visited lately. The customer service was great and the dumplings were delicious 🙂

Eaten plenty of takeaway from here during lockdown, and now getting to dine in. Red Petite has delivered flavour bombs every time. Every. single. dish I've tried here has been amazing: Pad Thai, red curry, green curry, crab curry, pork belly, pork skewers...highly recommended. So happy we discovered this local gem. Very friendly service too.

Best tasting Thai in South Melbourne! We popped in for a quick lunch… ended up coming back again with friends the same evening!! We had chicken satay skewers, vegetable spring rolls, chicken cashew nut stir fry, chicken red curry and chicken pad see ew. All delicious, filling and great value for money!! Staff were also very friendly & welcoming when we arrived. Turned up without a reservation and they went out of their way to accommodate us.

Old school no fitter comfortable, good food come along with the well priced & good service

@redpetite_thaicafe is a warm cozy restaurant in South Melbourne. Such a local gem! I absolutely loved the homey intimate ambience. Based on conversations I've overheard, seemed like they had lots of returning customers. We grabbed Thai Fried Rice, Pla Tod Kratiem, Green Curry, and Phat Thai. All their dishes were simple but flavourful. Staying true to the fundamentals - freshly cooked, friendly staff members & generous portion size. Pla Tod Kratiem (fried fish) was ridiculously crispy and tasty. You should definitely try! When you are craving some hearty Thai foods, Red Petite is the place to go. - #melbfoodiemark #redpetite

As always, I enjoyed this Thai restaurant that convenient and great discount offer to new customer when 1st time ordered online. Reasonable price and fresh food, easy parking just off Clarendon St. I ordered Pad Thai dish that expecting a bit more vegetable in it. Will add note in next time order, thank you for providing the beautiful food in South Melbourne. :-)

Ordered the Pad Thai, massaman beef curry and crispy pork belly via ubereats. Enjoyed the pork belly and massaman beef curry, however the pad Thai was disappointing as it was really bland. Portion were also really small for the crispy pork belly and massaman beef curry (there were only a few beef pieces in it).
Rachel_jaye
Ordered Thai green curry, rice and son in law eggs. So happy with all of it. One of the best green curries I’ve had in a while actually. Will definitely order from Red Petite again!
Kay
cute little place, great food for a local thai restaurant

This place is packed with diners on Friday night!! We don’t like the ambience, too much noise. Also, beware, the menu on Zomato isn’t the updated one.

But hey, the food saved the date. The red duck curry is amazing, it’s a sweet balance between coconut flavours and all the spices. My green coconut is mediocre but it’s not bad at all. Same goes the coconut rice.

We would prefer delivery because the space is tight.

Deliscious fresh options for both vegetarians and carnivores alike and great friendly service. I try and come here on a weekly basis!

I loved the food and the presentation of the dishes. The service was fantastic too, felt properly looked after.

Go to place for Uber eats when I fancy a curry. Always deliciously prepared and tastes authentic.

If you’re after the grilled chicken satay of a lifetime come here. $10 gets you 4 of the best freshest perfectly cooked chicken with an amazingly plentiful satay sauce with flakey, crispy roti bread... truly one of the great dishes. It’s not a dirty run down joint either it’s a nice little place. Tom yum was ok but the hero is the satay... do it
Jeff
So we were wandering down Clarendon on a Friday night and saw people sitting outside on Bank St. ‘Let’s give it a go’ says I. Wow! Tiny little place that delivers Thai food like u want- fresh, tasty with a bit of spice - all delivered in a funky local atmosphere.
Sarah
I can’t fault this place. Food is perfect. Service is perfect. How many times have I been there is week? 2-3 times. A plate of food is the perfect size. They have recently renovated the restaurant so now the can fit an extra 16 people. I would recommend it to anyone even if the don’t like the Thai cuisine. I can’t speak any highly of Red Petite.

When I ate at the restaurant once I thought the food, the service and the portion sizes were pretty good. And I was happy to go back , although the second time I ordered in and it was very disappointing, I had to so much salt to give the food some flavour and the curry was mainly broth/water and nothing else. The pad se ew was just all noodles. Won’t be going back.

Ordered all the desserts here as I felt like having thai desserts. Got the coconut custard and coconut pudding, panda layer cake, pandan crepe and banana in sticky rice. It was ok, small portions and can easily finish it all! The banana in sticky rice is pretty nice - wrapped in banana leaves, the sticky texture had some purpleish banana bits inside and some black beans, drizzled in sesame seeds.

This cute Thai cafe was one of the best recommendations from a dear family friend. I absolutely love the homey, comfy, yet small intimate area. Red petite does not only has a cute cafe vibe, but also has restaurant quality food as well. My family visiting from New York and I ordered

• Thai style Chicken wings
• Pad Thai
• Gaeng Massaman Neur
• Pad See-Ew
• Belly Bite

The standouts for us were the Pad See-Ew and the chicken wings which were on point with flavour. The Pad Thai was quite average and as for the Gaeng Massaman Neur it was slightly a bit too sweet for the taste. In addition the Belly bite could have been more tender. But otherwise it was a really enjoyable meal for the whole family to share!

Also, try not to come here at busy times if you are looking for a seat, it’s not the most spacious of places. But it’s still a great place to sit for great Thai food.

Red Petite was a Thai restaurant, located away from busy South Melbourne streets. I stumbled upon this restaurant when I used to work in the area, and it was such a wonderful surprise; we went there for dinner one night and all the dishes we had were simply amazingly flavourful. We tried their crying tiger beef, son in law egg, fried tofu with satay dip, and green curry and everything was so delicious. It was unfortunate that the venue was not spacious, but it made the ambiance somewhat cozier.
Ian Teh
Delicious Thai food. The Pad Thai and fish cakes were very good. It’s a tiny place which can be a problem but if you’re lucky enough to get a table, you’ll likely enjoy the food.
Gem
This place is absolutely tiny, but they still managed to seat 4 of us one week night. Lucky for us, because the food was absolutely delicious! This place feels very homely and the staff are very friendly and always smiling. Looking forward to a return visit!

Seriously this is the best Thai ever, it’s cosy and packed with super friendly staff and the best Tom kha in the whole city - but the whole menu is amazing, and as locals we’ve done it all twice.

Not fine dining just amazing amazing food in a great little atmosphere &BYO

This tiny patisserie serves cakes of outstanding quality, presentation and taste. The staff here are attentive and get the job done, however it would be nice if they were friendlier. The coffee is alright here, and simply goes well with the cakes.
Katy
First class Thai food! Everything we had was amazing, the satay sauce was so moorish! Massaman curry was thick, rich and delicious, with big chunks of beef that were just falling apart. We've been looking for a good Thai place and I think this will be it. Recommend!
StepiiGM
The place was really tiny!! Easy to find though, close to the shopping centre. Ordered: chicken red curry, stir fry fish and vegetables, vegetarian dumplings, thai milk tea. The overall experience was too sweet for my taste, while spring rolls didn't taste like much unless you dip it in the sweet (again) and sour sauce.
Andy Loves Food
Awesome Thai food. This place is small, cozy and friendly. Food it's reasonably price and most importantly... it's sumptuous. Must a visit if you are in South Melbourne.
Mzlanah
I don't think that this place is anything to rave about. The food was pretty average and not as flavoursome as Thai food usually is. Was quite disappointed, given previous ratings.
Mitchelljpollard
Very disappointing experience. Ordered takeaway through Eat Now on the Red Petite website. When I arrived to pick up my order at the time advised by the restaurant, it was not ready. Order was ready 20 minutes later but when I arrived home I received a call advising they had forgotten to give me my green curry. I went back and collected the green curry but when I got home I noticed they had also forgotten my roti bread and satay sauce which I paid $5 for. Terrible service.
Kevin Jeoffreys
The restaurant is cosy and has a great atmosphere. We ordered the banquet for 2 - it was generous and authentic (the chef and staff were from the same region we visited in Thailand). I suggest you book as the tables fill fast. A great place if you want an experience that is warm, friendly and good value.
Nick Kendall
Super cozy little Thai place just off Clarendon street. Solid food and reasonable prices. Great spot for a quiet lunch or dinner. Come here regularly for lunch and am never disappointed.
Mark McMorrow
The food is fantastic, it would have received 5 🌟 star but sadly the place is a little cramped and you can hear everyone's conversation, I've been several times now and the food has never disappointed, one of the best Pad Thai I've ever had the pleasure of tasting
Must Be Hungry
South Melbourne has definitely lots of hidden gems and Red Petite surely matches the brief. Featuring a red door, the venue is actually really petite but packed with character.

We arrived and all the tables (approx 8) were taken, so we left our number to be contacted back when a table would have become available for us.

Once we got our table we went straight to food and ordered a Tofu and Vegetable Chilli Basil Sauce with Rice, Massam Curry with Coconut Rice and Chicken Pad Kee-Nao with an omelette.

The food was to die for, and it brought us back to sunny Thailand in such a cold and rainy day in Melbourne: perfect.

Great atmosphere with gorgeous authentic Thai food that will make you come back for more and more.

Red Petite: MBH approved

I went here with my partner. It's a cute small restaurant on Bank Street. Staff were very attentive. The only thing was that some of the dishes we ordered sounded good but tasted average (eg chicken wings and fish cakes). The rest of the dishes we could not fault- the chilli pork belly stir fry was to die for!! We will definitely go back here again and try other items on the menu

A little gem near south melbourne market. Really nice green curry, and the portion is also larger than most other thai restaurants. Coconut rice is also yummy!
Tin Nguyen
One of my all time favourite Thai places in Melbourne! Been here many times with my partner and every time it blows our minds away with its knock out flavours and simplistic culinary. Son in law eggs can't say about it except it's good and you should try it. The Tom Yum soup was packed with flavour the the prawns were cooked nice and crisp just the way I like it. The yellow curry we had got quite a kick to it but with the cream, it sooth it out making it very balance dish. To finish everything off you got to try the coconut ice cream which I think is made in house (to be confirmed) the taste absolutely brilliant, it has rough texture due to the little frozen coconut mixed in and the peanuts on top just gives it that extra oomph! Absolutely love this place would recommend it to anyone and everyone.

A colleague and I headed over to Red Petite for a warm, quality Thai lunch in a cosy, cafe-like setting. In fact, we’re pretty sure this is still half a cafe, with cookies, coffees and sandwiches on offer. An interesting mix and that stretches to the sandwich selection which includes chicken tikka and lamb bulgogi. We ordered in with two more traditional Thai curries, hers was the thai green curry with chicken ($13), boiled egg, bamboo shoot, baby corn, red capsicum and coconut milk. Spicy and filled our bellies contently warm.

Our favourite tiny Thai place in South Melbourne! Don't judge the place on its tiny footprint. The food is delicious! One of the best authentic tom yam soup I've tried. The thai fishcakes are amazing with that sweet chilli peanut sauce. The beef used in the stir fry can be chewy at times. The curries though - wow. Green curry, red curry and masaman curry - delicious. Their noodles like the pad kee mao is pretty addictive. We love this place!

Awesome! This small thai restaurant now becomes my favorite one! The restaurant is cozy and always busy. Today I had super creamy and tasty thai red prawn curry with coconut rice. The curry was incredible seriously, far more rich than other place. Highly recommend:)
Gee
Feel like it's not as good as it was 12 months ago. Curries are getting watery, prawns were tasteless. Has something changed at Red Petite?

What a gem! Only six tables indoors in a nice and cost setting. Had the chicken wings, fish cakes and money bags for starters. Fish cakes were great but the other two were just ok. Chicken green curry was superb with plenty of curry (I find places tend to skimp on the curry itself, which is my favourite part!), and the roti with satay sauce was also memorable. Will definitely be back!

It's one of those places that you drive pass but don't really pay attention to it. But these places are usually the ones that catch you by surprise. I was caught by surprise all right. Other than that "rice to share" (4 of us, we assumed a big rice to share but, it was 1 bowl, with a spoon. Literally 1 small bowl to share. Lol.) The food was amazing! The tom yum was so spot on, the peanut satay was just a unique experience (super different to the ones I've tasted, had it's own tick) the pad seew and thai curry was good too. It's a very small intimate place probably holds 12 inside and a good 8 outside. Recommended for some intimate catch ups over wine and beer. A place that actually makes you put your phone aside and actually interact. It's a place to be.

Tiny but perfect. Fabulous food, perfect service, great menu selection. Loved every bite. We'll definitely be back and be recommending Red Petite to others.

A taste of Thai .....

This place reminds me of Thailand, "petite" restaurants all over the cities.

In a different set up, converted period building, much colder weather this establishment has just done that.

Good Thai menu, original, and enjoyable.

Go outside in a warmer weather.
Bianca
I love red petite. I wish we lived closer still so we could go frequently. Everything on the menu is delicious. I've been there for dinner and lunch many times and it's just fantastic Thai food.
Tulika Kabra
Wow !!!! A cute Thai cafe with cozy Seating and a smiling gal serving you. Fell in love with the place !!! Went there for lunch with friends. The place was really small with only 4 tables around. The best part about this place is all the dishes on the menu can be made vegetarian as well. We ordered for a pad Thai noodles and rice with stir fry. Both is which was amazing.
Food - 4.5/5
Quality and quantity - 4/5
Service - 4/5
Value for money - 3/5

Would love to visit the place again.

A cute little Thai place, we get takeaway from here some Friday's. The satay and pad Thai are delicious and always there is always very friendly service.

Red Petite is a cute Thai cafe, popular for their meals in South Melbourne. Despite how popular they are with the locals I had stayed away because the prices were too high for a work week lunch ($15). As soon as their prices dropped with lunch specials for $13 I was on for an old favourite – the green chicken curry.
Linniethebarista
I always come here when I crave a good pad Thai. Almost every two days until I hit the gym! Still my local for Thai. The masaman is tasty too

(English review below)
总的来说很不错,价位低,口味好,服务也好。
Belly Bite:很有红烧肉的感觉,香而不腻,且价格便宜,量也刚好。
Chicken Wings:香是香,但肉太少了不够满足哈哈,毕竟炸鸡翅追求的是满足感嘛。
Son in Law eggs:这道菜地道的应该是全熟的,但是个人还是偏好半熟蛋。
Hot Spicy Braised Beef Soup:汤够味,牛肉有点干柴。
BBQ Pork Neck With Rice Vermicelli:猪颈肉很嫩,酱汁也不错。
Coconut Ice-cream:好好吃!里面有一颗颗的小粒粒嚼起来很带感,一定要吃!

A cozy little thai restaurant hidden in South Melbourne. The food's good service's good price's good.
Belly Bite and coconut ice-cream are my favourite. I wouldn't mind having them everyday if I'm lucky enough to live in South Melbourne.

Nice little café serving thai food. I had the green curry and tom yum prawn. Both were nice, well seasoned not too hot by default. I’m not really a fan of too much coconut cream / milk in thai food but its not too much in here.
FOOD TRIP
Cute, but super small little restaurant that has very limited seating available. Would suggest making a booking if visiting. Food is good, but nothing too outstanding. Would recommend the Thai Milk Tea. Delicious!. Iced Thai Milk Tea $4. Delicious! Highlight of the meal! Sweet, creamy and very refreshing. Even better than the regular pearl milk teas I get from Chatime. Definitely recommend trying out! 9/10

This is by far the best thai food I have had and so affordable as well. My partner and I frequent here weekly and are always greeted with smiling faces by all of the staff. The consistency with amazing food can not be faulted. Make sure you don't miss out on eating at Red Petite if you have the opportunity.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Red Petite is our favourite Thai in Melbourne. The food is fresh and delicious while the service is friendly and timely. The restaurant is very quaint and small with the added benefit of delivery service too

A favourite for takeout on those lazy nights. The chicken pad thai, a green curry with some roti and a Tom Yum soup can really do you no wrong.

We were looking around for places on Clarendon St, came across Red Petite. Very small but nice place with outdoor seating. We sat outside as it was beautiful sunny day, Very kind staff & the BBQ Pork Skewers were amazing. We also had Red Curry, Chicken Skewers, & Beef Stir Fry. Very good portions and quite reasonably priced as well. Will definitely go back for lunch again!

Excellent Thai food, some of the best I've had in Australia. I've never eaten-in, but often order takeaway and it always arrives fresh and tasty.
Tim
Looks like I just found my official weekly local Thai joint. I think this place is as good as Jinda Thai. I've been to Thailand 6 times and it's up there with the dishes I devoured over there. Had the Garlic and Ginger chicken, it was amazing! Good little kick with the chilli and the chicken wasvCooked perfectly with the right amount of ginger to make those flavours pop!
Def recommend this place, can't wait to sample the rest of the menu..
Red Petite is our favourite thai restaurant. The food is very tasty and the staff are friendly and attentive. A very cute place to eat with friends or a partner. They do takeaway too!
Live_in_melbourne
Love this little Thai cafe! Always had really tasty Thai food and delicious coffee here. My favorite dish is Chili & Basil sauce duck. It's just addictive. We just can't help trying to try all the dishes here. Love it so much!

Discovered this hidden gem whilst wandering around South Melbourne looking for a place to eat late Friday night. Tucked sound the corner this tiny shop will barely fit 15 ppl inside, but has outdoor seating with portagas heaters. Charming and decidedly authentic, the tapa style entrées are perfect for those looking for variety. The mains are delicious and have a "Thai hot" option for those wanting serious heat. I spent ~$70 ordering 2 drinks, 4 entrées, 2 mains and rice (we were very hungry). One of the tastiest Thai restaurants I've been to. My fav dish here goes to the tom yum.
Nic Orindi
DELICIOUS. Abolutely delicious food. we tried atleast 4 or 5 dishes and they ALL were amazing!
something to go back to again and again
Lilipealea
Simply the best Thai in this area by a long shot -yes, we have eaten at all of them. The serving sizes are generous and the food is spicy, freshly cooked and fragrant. I have eaten here a number of times and never been disappointed. Friendly staff too.

Love it here. I love this place. Worst thing about moving out of south melbourne was not having this fantastic place at the end of my street.
Whether you go for breakfast, lunch or dinner, you won't be disappointed.
I can't speak highly enough of Red Petite.
Thank you for the good times, I will come back as much as I can.
Oh and the coffee is delicious!

Hidden down Bank Street in South Melbourne is a true Thai delight. Real authentic Thai food that is fresh and completely full of flavour. I love when I find little restaurants that aren’t as popular as they should. I hope to share my excitement and help lead them into the spotlight. Red Petite is tiny but there is a nice little outdoor area you can sit as well. I would recommend eating the classics because they do such a fantastic job at keeping all the Thai flavours. I honestly felt like I was eating at a little cafe in Thailand that is how authentic this place is. Ps… They do great takeaway as well!
Charmaine
The name is really a great fit to this little treasure on Bank Street with a pretty red door frame. We arrived at Red Petite at around 6pm on Thursday for an early dinner and the place was surprisingly empty. I say surprisingly because previous reviews said that it’s always packed so we expected a short wait, but maybe that only happens during lunchtime? Not sure, we’re just glad we could get some food in our bellies. Once inside, I acknowledged why it’s called ‘petite’. The place had 5 tables with another 2 or 3 outside. Although it was small, I didn’t feel like it was cramped, it actually had a really cozy and homey feeling. Although it’s a thai food restaurant, you also have cafe treats such as muffins and coffee as well. Everything on the menu looked good but we settled for Pad Thai and Chicken Green Curry . I swapped the jasmine rice that came with the Green Curry set with coconut rice. Quick fact about me: I LOVE COCONUT RICE!!!!!! I can eat soooooo much of it even though I know
DeOriginalOne
Overall, Red Petite is an excellent Thai cafe in South Melbourne that offers a quiet sit-down space for you to chill and relax after a long day. Not your typical Thai asian restaurant with curries and fried noodles, you’ll need to bring your spirit of adventure here to try something new. Enjoy the lovely food and nice wines on the list. Would be interested to know if they did BYO since Cloudwine and Prince Wine Store are just across the street.

Strange little place, amazing food!. I decided to visit here the other night based on the excellent feedback from here.

Whilst the place was nothing flash (and I wouldn't 'eat in' there again; a few tables inside and out appear to be more for convenience than anything, despite having a great menu), the food was superb.

Quite possibly the best Massamun curry i've had anywhere. Small serve yes, but generous chunks of slow cooked meat in an amazing sauce.

The Pad Thai was also just as good. The spring rolls were amazingly crisp and light, but did lack a little flavour (although the dipping sweet chilli sauce was excellent).

Didn't get to try the satays that people are also keen on, but will definitely be picking up some 'to go' food on friday evenigns on the way home from here in future!
Li Pink, Joyce Kun
Delicious!. This tiny eatery serves good food with boastful flavours! From little thai tapas, soups, curry, to their noodles and stirfries. I love their simple and authentic dishes. Staffs are friendly and the restaurant is small and cosy.

Will always recommend my friends to check this place out. They do delivery for a minimum of $30 orders-perfect when you are feeling a little lazy.
Jenny Anderson
Went for a late breakfast/ lunch here after seeing reviews on Urbanspoon.

The menu was lunch and full on, so we opted for coffee and a muffin instead. The coffee was perfect but a little cooler than I usually drink it (I ask for it hot usually or it comes cool enough to drink in one go in most places).
The place soon filled up and the food looked great, so as we were still hungry we ordered the Thai fish cakes and chicken spring rolls. The fish cakes had a real chilli kick, but both starters were delicious.
At first glance I would of walked straight past without knowing this little gem existed as it's not an in your face place.
We were not disappointed and look forward to a return visit to sample more of the menu.
Stuart
What a hidden gem. We originally went for some breakfast but was too late. So coffee and muffin is all we could have........... Well to start with. As we enjoyed the fantastic coffee everyone started to order lunch. So after coffee we had lunch. It is fan-tas-tic.

Best kept secret. My only hesitation to write a review is that I don't want too many people to know about it! Really the best Thai food in Melbourne, and for such a great cost. We go there at least once a week. The food is so fresh and authentic and the service is so friendly. We love it!
Tomo77
Amazing!. Tamarind prawns, pork belly bites soo good. We have been a few times now and last time they gave us free coconut icecream, which was to die for. Will be back!
Yvesi
Fresh and flavoursome. I love this place. Wonderful fresh food served with welcoming hospitality. I also like the fact that you can BYO.
Jandal
Excellent food, outstanding value. Great food at a good price. Yes the restaurant is small but that was ok, nice friendly atmosphere, am going back there tonight!
Daryl
The best Thai food we've had in a long time, the tapa style entrees are delicious and just the right size, the mains are just as beautiful and the customer service is always fantastic. I would recommend this place to everyone. It is a hidden gem.
Mac
Where is everyone? It's sat nite & you are missing the best Thai in Sth Mel,the service is great, the food even better, the price is awesome, hidden gem without a doubt. Check it out.
Mintae
A nice little restaurant with smart menus. Food that I had was good and the staff was very kind.
The red curry was good but not superb, everything we had was same( good but not superb).
A fairly good Thai restaurant in south melbourne.

Grateful.... Just want to say a huge thank you!! to the staff who let us in on New Year's Day EVEN THOUGH they were closed and made us a delicious take-away coffee. The caffeine and your friendliness was lovely and we can't wait to come back for dinner.
Melissatroy564
Loved it. Fantastic service and great coffee!
Cliff
Awesome lunch place. Lovely, cosy little cafe in South Melbourne. This is my go to place for lunch. I'm so in love with it that we go there at least once a week. The Duck Red Curry with rice is a must try.. for something a little different, try ordering it with steamed vegetables instead of rice :)

Delectable. Extreme deliciousness! Must revisit.

Yep this place is my new favorite. Awesome food, friendly staff, cute little place.

The gf and a friend brought me here today. Will definitely go back. Def try their special of duck red curry and the Thai fish cakes. Prices were very reasonable too! Left feeling very satisfied.
Kat23
Our new regular. Amazing food!! full of flavour everyone should try this place!
Mouthful
Haven't been disappointed. I've been going to this place for a while for the Bangkok tapas, which is awesome, but last time I was there I tried their desserts. Geez! I got a mixed plate of four desserts and they were fantastic. If you haven't tried the desserts, remember to save room.
Nezuji
Wonderful food and people. I've visited this wonderful restaurant/cafe several times now, and I've been delighted with the quality of the food and service every time. So have my companions. My personal favourites (so far) are the lamb bulgogi sandwich, the Thai green curry, and the Pad Thai. No doubt this list will increase as I keep visiting. The proprietors are extremely friendly; a visit to Red Petite sometimes feels like a visit with a favourite aunt and uncle.
Natalie
So much love!. One of the cutest little restaurants i've been to in years! the chicken satay is to die for as is the coconut ice cream! i will definetly be heading back there
Kate Popocatepetl
Wow! Unassuming yet pungent, delicious, sweet, piquant spectacular Thai food! Green Thai curry best in Melb! (Can't believe I just said that). Coconut rice creamy sticky goodness. Surprised by this little place, almost passed it by, so glad we stopped.
Caroline
Really pleasant place with great food and good coffee. A nice little reliable
Maddie McMahon
Deliciousssssss. Went to Red Petite last night with a friend for a much needed catch up and was delighted with the dining experience! The waitress and waiter were very welcoming and friendly and made us feel at home. The food was absolutely delicious (Pad Thai) and was reasonably priced. At the end of our meal we were offered some complimentary coconut ice-cream as it was such a hot night-and that was the star! So yummy! Definitely going here again.

Went for lunch .. good food with price

Sometimes a place is so good, nothing really needs to be said. This is one of those places.
Moluck
Had lunch today. Chicken wi.... Had lunch today.
Chicken wings were off the hook!
Highly recommend the Chicken Tikka sandwich too. This place is awesome.
Nick
Please don't discover this place; it's awesome.. This place is so small that I hate the thought of writing a good review, especially as it's our local. So please don't go and eat the delectable massaman curry; please don't try all the other mouth-watering dishes that we crave every evening... or the bargain house wine.

Seriously though, it's bloody lovely, so please go somewhere else and leave our table alone!!
Bellyporking
Red Petite, but Giant Flavour!. Have had takeaway there several times, as well as dine in, and adored the food each time.

There is enough usual takeaway thai dishes to keep the punters happy, which I might add are a cut above your average thai takeaway. But experimenting outside the usual green curry and pad thai (which I might add is tasty, and a fixture on our list) is also rewarding. Belly bite (pork belly in an aromatic sticky sauce) and the pork mince with salted duck egg were absolute winners. all round nomnomnoms.
Dean Fergie
Yeah...very good. There are so many places in Melbourne serving quality Asian food that I am surprised to find myself bothering to write about Red Petite.

However today at lunch I had a super tasty stir fried pork with chilli and basil that was clearly made with fresh ingredients all perfectly cooked. My friend's beef dish was equally delicious. There were also quite a few punters coming in to takeaway their special looking rolls. Servings are generous (without being huge) and the service is warm and friendly. The place is pretty small but was oddly not overly busy today so it was easy to get a table. I really can’t understand why because if I lived or worked nearby I’d be a regular.

Go along and support Red Petite because Melbourne can’t have enough of these little gems.
JasonFood
Best lunch in South Melbourne. The $10 sandwiches are outstanding. Tried the Chicken Tikka on Turkish Bread today could be the best of the lot. Very good Thai specials as well.. Just tried the Chicken Satay today - not overly healthy but seriously good

A friend recommended this hidden gem and it's now my favourite Thai restaurant in Melbourne. Each time we've been our meals have been simply delectable. Massman curry is my absolute favourite with the tender beef and roti. We've got family visiting Australia next week and so we'll be introducing them to a meal here.

Katsu Gourmet Sandwich. Delicious for lunch, might need a few more napkins though

Very glad to have discovered this place. Yummy Thai in a friendly, casual environment. The Thai buckets are great on a summer's night.

Bangkok Tapas!. This tiny but delightful cafe is just around the corner from us, and we've seen a few operators come and go, since Joe's Diner sold out (I miss them...they made the best roast beef sandwiches for $5.50!).

Hopefully Red Petite has struck it lucky and they have only just opened for dinner.

We noticed a new addition to their menu, Bangkok Tapas, and decided to eat there just before a Cabaret Festival show last night.

It was almost full (not hard) and we ordered the tapas menu. The Prawns were delicious..so much so we got an extra serve...and each serve came with 6 prawns so we could have 3 each...not these silly serves of 3 or 5 that tapas places seem to annoy customers with..is there a reason for that?

Anyway we also had a mushroom stir fry, Crying Tiger, Ribs, and Sweet Thai Sausage. The ribs were a tad dry, but very nice.

We were so impressed with the quality and speed of service, and the people are just lovely. Our waitress told us they are trying to be different and serve Thai dishes that they themselves would eat normally rather than fancy curries and the like.

I really hope they do well as the food is good. Small wine selection but I had a nice Geelong Pinot Noir.

We'll be back.

Cozy. I adore Red Petite, the cafe is quite small but it's cozy and that's what I like about cafes.
I work for a business around the area and we use Red Petite daily to feed our clients.
I quite enjoy the Tonkatsu Curry and the Thai Pumpkin Soup.
I'm so glad this new and small business is doing quite well.
