If your looking for jersey food in Melbourne, you need to go here. It's very similar to home. I recommend the bacon egg and cheese. When I was there the guy said he's trying to get pork roll, so fingers crossed for that!
This was an amazing experience for North Queenslanders. The staff were friendly, the food was tasty and fresh, and the atmosphere was unique. I will definitely return next time I am in Melbourne and will recommend this cafe to friends and family.
Found the best meal so far in Melbourne. Absolutely beautiful. Tucked down an ally way off the main road and well worth the stop!
I moved here from NY State almost two years ago. I am sorry to have only learned of this shop a week ago. Went there to try it and I was not disappointed! The bagels are smaller compared to what I know, however, the taste is amazing! Authentic home style bagels, the only kind I've found here in Melbourne. I will be back to stock up! Oh and the hot apple cider was spot on!
Absolutely amazing meal, well worth the visit. The bagel and filling were delicious and the service superb
Everytime I'm in Melbourne, I come here for a morning bagel (2 if I'm extra gluttonous) and is the bench mark for all bagel stores across Melbourne. No one has compared, these guys are the best in the business. Always worth a visit!

I don't need to go overseas for a good bagel this place is now my go-to place for bagel. Excellent bagel and great coffee. I will be back😍
We caught a tram into the city just to eat here. It's so friggin fresh, and fulfilling, and satisfying, flavoursome, solid atmosphere, heard some hits over the speakers, not too loud/ intrusive.
The staff are real friendly and proud of their work, so it's consistently good eatin'

Great food, great coffee and great service. Cheap and high quality.
Delicious. Real bagels! Bacon and maple chipotle is great. And the doughnuts are also worth a trip. I missed out on the Nutella, but cupucino doughnut was fantastic. I'll be back tomorrow.
Fantastic bagel shop with authentic NY bagels!!
Great bagel. I really appreciate how dedicated staff are to their product. As I pondered which bagel to pick, the guy serving me generously explained ingredients and flavour profiles to help me out. I went with the vegan lox on garlic bagel, which was absolutely heaped with Tofutti. The vegan lox itself (pickled soft carrot) was creative but far too salty, and I had to pick it out. Definitely keen to return for a more simple option that doesn’t overpower how good the bread itself is.
Bacon maple chipotle on blueberry bagel was amazing. The spread was thick and full of goodness.
PBJ on pretzel bagel was a bit too heavy for me. The texture of pretzel bagel was not my fav as well however that’s just preference.
But, will I be back? Absolutely!
Got a simple bagel but they did it so well! The pretzel bagel was really delicious and together with Shortstop’s peanut butter, it made a delicious snack on the go! The service here is also really pleasant and they’re really sweet even tho I just grabbed it and went! Definitely would come back for my bagel cravings ~
Came here and managed to grab the last table in the small venue, that of which houses their baking centre and takes up most of the space. Having been to their second location I enjoyed this visit a little more which I shall soon highlight.
Started off with a latte, nice and strong. I have a feeling they still use Industry Beans which is one of my favourite bean suppliers for coffee blends. Also the fact that I had the coffee in rather than takeout made it that much more enjoyable.
I had their lox this time around which is the classic combination of salmon and cream cheese, this variation had capers, tomatoes and onions. They weren't too shy with the cream cheese and the poppy seeded bagel itself was dense and chewy, really gave my jaws a workout! Bagel was also much larger than what I remembered from last time so I was more satisfied this time around. Some plain salted crisps on the side (most likely Kettle Sea Salt chips) because you really can do no wrong with those.
Excellent spot for some bagels and coffee, if you want a table come early or just grab some takeaway and take it back to the office.
Hands down the best LOX bagels in melbourne, generous amounts of topping and very cheap for the quality and freshness of the food served here! Highly recommend, only thing I would comment on is there are hardly any seating, they should definitely expand, given how popular they are becoming.
This is definitely one of my top bagel spots in the city. I recently tried a unique combination of cream cheese, gorgonzola, fig jam and candied walnuts and it was to die for. While I love a sweet and savoury option like this, I also enjoy their classic salt bagel with vegan cream cheese.
Great selection of bagels. We both had the LOX, one on Jalepeno & Chedder. A nice and light bagel. And the other was a sesame seed bagel that didn't disappoint. Generous with Cream Cheese and fillings. Friendly staff and nice coffee
Good ol classic bagel
The place is quite nice, they don't have many seats as it was more popular for takeaway. But it was really chill and laid back.
The staff was really nice and my bagel was ready in 5 minutes, brought to my table.
Horseradish cream cheese bagel was great. The bagel i chose was sesame and it was perfectly bouncy and was nice and fragrant, a little extra crisp on the outside. The cream was generous but not too much and was yummy, a mixture of spicy and creamy. It was a really enjoyable bagel overall.
Overall a really great place for yummy bagels, condiments are also free!
( follow for more!✨)

Trout bagel ($7)
⭐️ 3.5/5 ⭐️
🍴A satisfying and filling bagel from the #unimelbfarmersmarket. One can choose among their many bagels and to have it plain/ with cream cheese ($5) or choose a savory option. I went with smoked trout and although it was yummy, it could do with more substantial pieces of meat as I mainly tasted the creamy sauce that was enjoyably flavourful but not overpowering. I did like my choice of the everything bagel that had lots of different nuts and sesame on it.

Best place to treat yourself to a bagel! Many delicious flavours and toppings to choose from. The staff always greet you with a smile and make your visit pleasant.
A glass window provides you the opportunity to watch the bagels being made in the kitchen. And if you are lucky to time it perfectly, you can have fresh bagels still warm from the kitchen.
Hands down the best bagels I've had in Melbourne so far (after trying many).
You're fortunate enough to watch the bakers go through the process of making the bagels through the window wall of their kitchen. It is something truly to be admired.
We love coming in and dining in due to extremely competitively priced dressed bagels, and often will take away a couple extra for the next day.
An absolute must if you're nearby and love a great bagel.
Tucked away nicely, very small and cozy inside but it all works well together. Nice range of bagels and combinations to choose from. Had the 'Hot Smoked Trout', where I chose a garlic bagel and it came with creme cheese. Was quite nice, and for $6, was completely worth it as they are quite filling. Can't comment on the coffee as I had juice. Staff were kind and polite, which is always good for a small business. Would definitely be coming again!
Located on an alleyway filled with cafes along flinders lane, this little bagel shop was a delight when we passed by..
There was a cafe with about enough seating for 10 and next door in a glassed off area there was a mini bagel production line hard at work..
It was surprisingly busy for a weekday morning..
We tried the Bacon Maple Chipotle Bagel and it was just amazing, the bagel was firm and packed with the smell of garlic, as we got the garlic salted bagel. The filling was also fantastic, the cream cheese provided a nice softness to the bagel and you could taste little bits of bacon..
Coffee came with a double shot of espresso which was nice.. Very enjoyable breakky..
These are my favourite bagels in Melbourne. I am such a big fan of the everything bagels and the vegan cream cheese options and bought the bacon maple cream cheese for a friend which was raved about
The ratings are right. These are some really good flavours. So many different types bagels you can choose from including jalepenos and cheddar, garlic and salt, cinnamon and walnut and dill. And that’s before you add any sort of filling. Bagels could maybe be classified as in the pricier side, but the 2 we got to share were super filling and made a very satisfying $6 breakfast. Wish this place was more central in the city so I could visit more regularly 🤤
Great coffee! I thought it was a little on the pricier side at $4.50 for a large coffee which was on the smaller side but the cup was wider than usual and it was a quality blend of coffee that went down extremely smoothly. I would return.
Loved my bagel for lunch today & only $6 is a real bargin. I had the Dill Bagel with Bacon Maple Cream Cheese. It was delicious
Loved the atmosphere at this cool bagel shop. Staff were really friendly.
I usually come here for their classic bagel combo such as blueberry bagel + cream cheese, sometimes if I’m feeling a bit adventurous I combine their salty bagel with strawberry cream cheese. Love their bagels, it’s fresh and got this nice bite to it.
5 & dime bagel are well known for their traditional boiled bagels but now they will be well known for their Jersey style pizzas too. At their Katherine Place store they’re doing bagels by day and pizzas by night. The difference between an Aussie pizza and a Jersey pizza is that they put the sauce on top, after the cheese and after the toppings. Crazy right? Totally delicious though. Oh and they call a margarita pizza a tomato pie. Whatever you wanna call it, that margarita tomato pie thing was absolutely delicious. And so were the other pizzas we tried. And did I mention they also do a giant pizza bagel?
The creation of 5 and Dime was spawned by the fact that despite the many pizza joints dotted throughout Melbourne, none quite manages to impress owner Zev, who is accustomed to the signature New Jersey style of bagels and pizza.
While we haven’t yet tried the bagels here, though we must, the New Jersey Pizzas here were just phenomenal and definitely in a class of its own. And with experienced pastry chef Alex at the helm, hand-tossing every dough and topping each pizza, it’s no surprise they taste just so perfect, and ranks amongst the best in Melbourne!
5 & Dime offered small-but-good selections of both savoury and sweet bagels. We tried their blueberry and Lox, and loved the Lox with its fresh salmon and cream cheese, and also its side of crispy chips. The blueberry one, however, could have done with stronger blueberry flavour.
5 & Dime was housed in a cute little venue and tucked away in one of Melbourne laneways.

I have heard about 5 & Dime bagels and have been eating their bagels for ages as they supply to many cafes and restaurants in Melbourne. It was our first time eating at the actual place and they did not disappoint. The fresh baked bagels were uncomparable. We also got to try the bagel pizza, the sauce and the cheese were just perfect. Not the bullsh*t you get at cheap pizza joints.
Would definitely recommend this place. Top notch. One of the best bagel places in Melbourne.
Tasty tasty bagels tucked away in the quiet end of the city. I think it would be pretty hard to rival the bagels this place produces. So filling and so damn good. Some really good combos for their bagel sandwiches. This place gets pretty busy for lunch and for a good reason. Great for something different when in the city.
Bagels are sooo delicious and now pop up pizzas are amazing too. The pastries are all super great. Staff are friendly and helpful. Everything about this place is fantastic!!
Best bagels in the city! So many flavors and lots of different options for toppings. They have plenty of vegan, vegetarian and meat options so its a crowd pleaser! Service is quick and friendly. Definitely recommend.
I tried the vegan cream cheese on a pretzel bagel. Delicious. Salty. Yum.
The jalapeno bagel is also a must try!
The bagels are excellent. Properly made, with many different flavours and obviously made fresh each day. There are lots of vegan options. I enjoy the simpler ingredients much more, it's better value and allows the bagel to really shine.
I find the drinks overpriced, so generally I skip the coffee and just grab a great bagel.
Ordered the ‘Pastrami’ from the deli sandwiches section of the menu and chose the garlic bagel to go with it. Some potato crisps and a long slice of pickle were served on the side. Also had a cappuccino which was strong and flavourful; it wasn’t diluted or milky.
The ‘pastrami’ consisted of a few strips of smoked pastrami beef, sliced pickles and their house made mustard. The pastrami beef had the right amount of savouriness to it; it wasn’t too salty. Then you have the mustard to spice things up a little (it’s not pure hot mustard) and the mild vinegary pickles to balance the saltiness of the pastrami. The bagel was not too dense and was pleasantly chewy, though the salty garlic didn’t stand out much relative to the pastrami, pickles and mustard. Still tasty though, especially at the end because all the garlic flavour was stuck on my fingers from holding the bagel and I definitely did not let it go to waste. Finally the chips were thick cuts which added a nice crunch to the bite.
Overall it was a tasty meal; coffee was great and the bagel was easy to eat without a mess. There weren’t a whole lot of fillings in the bagel but it was very flavourful and the savouriness was well balanced with the vinegar and spice. Maybe adding some cheese would have made it even tastier.
We had the peanut butter bagel which was sensational! It was warm, nutty heaven in your mouth. I’ve never tasted anything so good. The fit out is really cool because you can see how they bake the bagels. Highly recommended.
The best bagel you will find in Melbourne, is in this small bakery in Katherine place.
Baked on site, so fresh and clean you can watch the bagels being made, you must try the smoked trout, will worth the visit .
Very nice bagels. Reminded me of those lovely bagels I had in New York. Tried the Lox bagel, came in a box with salty chips and gherkins as a sides. Love the texture density of the bagel. Filling was savory and creamy.
If you are looking for Montreal-style bagels, you can look away now. 5 & Dime is all about New Jersey-style bagels, which are similar to New York-style bagels. Lucky for me I prefer my bagels NY-style. Crusty on the outside, chewy and a little fluffy on the inside, and much fatter and bigger in size but with a smaller hole in the middle. Both savoury and sweet options hit the right spot, but I can never turn down a peanut butter and jam blueberry bagel. If you’re like my partner and love your meats, the Muffaletta or the Pastrami will be your thing. Yet on days when I get myself the bacon maple chipotle cream cheese (with no meat might I add), I noticed that I lose half my bagel to him.
Most of the time, I don’t get my bagel toasted here, not because I’m a bagel purist who doesn’t believe in toasting fresh bagels, but because I do not want to risk the likelihood of receiving a tough bagel.
I can’t go past the cinnamon cake doughnut. It’s a bit doughy, a bit dense, not too sweet and taste and smell like warm cinnamon spices. Most importantly, it reminds me of the Chinese 5-Spice Fried Doughnuts that I loved as a kid.
A bit pricey but it does fill you up. Have yet to try their coffee here, so can’t comment on that.
Warm day so walked further afield from work to 5 & Dime Bagels. This little space backed onto a much bigger space in the form of the actual working bakery. The interior was quite charming and did kind of remind me of some of the NY cafes I dined in (or was that Jersey). I chose the salmon and cream cheese bagel which was packed full of both along with capers, tomato and an accompanying scoop of crisps and last but not least a pickle. I enjoyed the freshness of a bagel in this instance but would often go down the toasted path when I buy them for home consumption. It was a classic and well tried combination so for me it was a no brainer that I was going to enjoy.
A tasty and a novel change for lunch 👍🏽
Delicious, fresh, authentic bagels straight from the source (they supply many of the bagels around town so you have had one without knowing it!) Great selection of sweet and savoury bagels, perfect for breakfast or lunch.
The schmears are great value (ranging from $3.50 to $6 including your choice of bagel) as the serves are extremely generous - to the point where you consider getting another plain bagel to even out the spread.
Pictured is the pastrami bagel which was super delicious and filling for lunch. All deli bagels come with crisps and pickle.
Points for: dense, chewy bagels
Dine Time: Weekday lunch
Get your American-Jewish kosher style fix here.
I went for a corned beef on pretzel bagel - the bagel was toasted, providing a nice crunch through the beef and cheese. The house made sauerkraut was more fresh than the jarred stuff, and the 1000 island dressing pulled all the flavours together. Nice touch with the chips and gherkin on the side too.
Couldn't resist the chocolate babka, which took me back to Seinfeld. Although it was displayed on the counter, it wasn't dry - still had a nice softness and good chocolate through the swirls of bread.
The coffee - ordered a strong latte, which didn't taste like it had the extra shot, and the milk was a bit on the watery side too.
I had smoked salmon cream cheese on a pretzel bagel, absolutely the BOMB! Kids had the honey. raisin, walnut schmear on regular bagels. When they're this fresh, it's a travesty to get them toasted. Up to you though.
Damn, these are some great bagels. I had the everything bagel with bacon-maple schmear and it was absolutely delicious. Amazing texture to the bagels. Having done a bit bagel mad while in New York, it's great to be able to find great bagels here in Melbourne.
My only complaint is that the location is out of the way for me as my office is at the top end of the city. I wish there was another branch up that way.
Working near this hidden gem makes it easy to pop in for a late lunch any day of the week, bagels are always so good, personally I purchase the plain bagel with the lox cream cheese (cream cheese with smashed salmon) - absolutely amazing! Over the few times I've been, i have managed to enjoy this for only $6. They provide, coffee and drinks, also all the boiling and baking is onsite and open for customers to view through the window.
The shop is rather small and may get cramped during breakfast and lunch as many are waiting for there orders, wait times are not bad at all.
If close by, definitely worth a shot!
Great bagel options for vegans including vegan cookies which are also delish! I had the vegan cream cheese on the dill bagel with pickled onions, capers and tomato - it was amazing. Please give this place a go if you are looking for a cheap and cheerful vegan option in the city.
Last time we were in Melbourne we lived across the road from 5 and Dime, a New Jersey style bagel store in the heart of Melbourne CBD. With a glowing endorsement from Meatballs and Beef Cheeks, we made a point to grab breakfast there before our first appointment. . Inside, I really liked the glass window which allowed us to observe and appreciate how bagels are made.
Coffee was great and my magic was spot on. Bagels are made fresh and all you need is just butter or peanut butter to go with it. They have some impressive collection of snacks too
A cute little bagel shop near Southern Cross perfect for a cheap, yet filling takeaway brekky. I’m a huge fan of the bagels here as they’re super tasty and not overpriced. The bagels are always very carb-dense and filling whilst the seasoning on top doesn’t disappoint! There’s also a small amount of seating inside for dine in options or a take away offer of 6 bagels for $12.
Fantastic bagels! I'm a sucker for bagels and for a while, when back in Germany, had probably 3-4 per week. Melbourne is not really known for this tasty delight but 5 & Dime can definitely compete with the best bagels I had. With a massive range, including healthy options such as Rye, there is something for everyone. My go to is usually the bagel and smear (cream cheese) with some simple jam or even just plain. Here I can also recommend the bacon maple chipotle! Definitely will be back. Seb
I'm not a bagel lover so my review is a little bit of a bagel hater feel. This place however is very worth the visit. I have a feeling the corporates love this place but a good place for bagel lovers as well.
I can't remember what I got but it was definitely a bagel. It was tough, chewy, and had loads of flavour to it. I don't like tough and chewy foods at the same time. Being a slow eater, if I ate during peak hour at this place. I'm pretty sure I would have being annoying by overstaying too long. My friend had something that was very fresh and on the not so warm side of things. Pick a bagel that has your favourite toppings which I did. I got something with ham and cheese. I am probably the worst reviewer at this point. We also had coffees, they were bloody nice af.
I think what stood out most to me was the service, even though it was a simple ordering process. We got a smile, and bloody eye-contact from the staff member who served us. Also this place is quite tight-knit and rather cozy. Prepare yourself to being in a rather small venue.
Also, these bagels come out in takeaway boxes so you have the choice to eat in or strut the streets with a bagel at hand. Literally.
been here twice, and have walked away with 3 bagels each time because unfortunately we live in perth and are never in melbourne for long enough to come back here during the trip! everything bagel is sooo good with maple bacon chipotle cream cheese, but an extra 4$-ish for the cream cheese seems a lil expensive considering the actual bagel is only 2.20$. happy to pay for this anyway as a good bagel with tasty and decent amount of cream cheese on it is hard to come by. only other gripe is they don't keep well so i always have to hurry up and eat them once we get home! probably a good thing or i'd end up with as many as would fit in my luggage ;p only just been in yesterday, and already can't wait to come back in august!
Had a toasted rye bagel with spring onion cream cheese. It was expensive, but delicious. Would it fill me up for lunch? Probably not. More snack-sized than anything.
Hit the spot for breakfast! Quick, delicious and friendly environment. Great start of the morning. I had the tuna.. the mayonnaise sauce was really tasty. Highly recommend!
The bagels are good at 5 and dime, I order the salty garlic bagel with corned beef, melted swiss cheese, cabbage and 1000 island dressing. The venue is small with 4 tables and 10 chairs so good to pop in if you work or live close. It is only open Monday to Friday, they have decent coffee, tasty bagels but a regular menu with nothing fancy.
Decent bagels served up by hipster geeks in black t-shirts. The taste was in the bagels, not so much the fillings. Nothing fancy, just regular combinations. Decor was very plain but there's a big window where you can watch the bakery in action. Friendly service, I was offered a couple of bagels on the house.
bagel本身真的做得非常棒,脆的来又劲道,面香十足,喜欢吃bagel的话很值得一试。

Great bagels - 5 out of 5!
Made a special pilgrimage to 5 & Dime Bagels in search of Melbourne's best bagels and was not disappointed.
These are the closest thing to true New York bagels we've found in Australia. So good that we purchased a bag to take home on the airplane this evening.
We tried a plain bagel toasted with cream cheese, a poppy bagel toasted with cream cheese and a breakfast sandwich with bacon on a salt bagel.
The bagels had a wonderful texture (boiled, not steamed) and were generously topped with a rich, smooth cream cheese.
The poppy bagel was fantastic. The plain bagel could have used a bit more salt. The salt bagel was great, but the bacon and egg weren't as good as the bagel - these were pre-prepared and warmed up.
The bagels were a 5, but the rest was pretty average leading to an overall rating of 4 out of 5.
We were told that they sometimes make black and white cookies as well - something to look forward to.
“My heart's in overdrive and you're behind the steering wheel”
The Dear Luncher’s desire to get to 5 & Dime for breakfast intensified when he discovered that this was where his favourite bagels at Rex Tremendae were sourced from. These bagels have given Your Dear Luncher plenty of joy of late. In particular the salty garlic and onion varieties. The Dear Luncher ordered a cheese, egg and bacon (+ salt, pepper and ketchup) on the dill variety of bagel. This was an excellent choice. Probably a bit light on with the bacon for The Dear Luncher’s taste. The long macchiato was excellent as well. The economy of the bagel/coffee combo is excellent at $11. It would be less with a bagel that has less in it.
The Dear Luncher believes in a thing called love and has been touched by 5 & Dime Bagels.
It's a strange world we live in when I can safely say I have had better 5 & dime bagels at other cafés than the ones I have had here. Don't get me wrong - they are all made here so logically they should all taste the same - but the way they prepare them just does not live up to the bagel goodness they could be dishing out.
For example when I order a bagel from Bowery to Williamsburg I get it freshly toasted and slightly crisp but still chewy in the middle (as it should be). Also the cream cheese or other toppings taste fresh, healthy and delicious. When I get the same here and see them just open a tub of average tasting cream cheese, sprinkle some random toppings on and wrap it up I don't get the same sense of value or taste. The 5 & Dime bagels served at Everyday Coffee in Collingwood are great - the spreads are simple and tasty etc. At this store though I just have never really got a great spread.
I do like the staff, they are very relaxed but not overly chatty, the interiors are a little plane but it is wonderful to watch the working bakery right behind the counter. Coffee is good. I just think they need to up their toppings game to make me choose this place again over countless other great bagel options in the city. Still worth checking out but maybe as a takeaway rather than a destination cafe.
Ever since spending a sole week in Manhattan, I’ve bought back a love of bagels (as well as a pile of Statue of Liberty magnets) and 5 & Dime do the best bagels in Melbourne for sure! I appreciate the more traditional take on the recipe that these guys use and the sizing is much better as well, it’s not meant to be a gigantic circle of carbs after all.
I really like 5 & Dime's dense and chewy rye bagels, and I enjoy it most with the hot smoked ocean trout cream cheese. The doughy texture is wonderful, and this place is always generous with their accompaniments whether it be smoked salmon slices or peanut butter. Thumbs up for the view of the bagel production line from this tiny dining area too! Go and have a hot smoked ocean trout cream cheese on onion rye if you haven't already - a definite recommendation.
Tucked in a laneway, this place is a hidden Bagels' Mecca. The staff is friendly and interactive, it's busier than it looks and pretty popular among the local office goers.
They have variety of bagels, priced as per average Melbourne standards. I tried the tuna melt on Rye bagel. It was delicious and just right. Right amount of crunch to the bagel and good amount of tuna sandwiched in. They also give little bit of chips and pickle on the side which I thought was a good addition.
Lot of people turning in for takeaway as well.
This place was a terrific find! We went back twice! I loved that you can watch them being made in the kitchen just behind the counter. The maple bacon chipotle cream cheese was a standout. I didn't love the coffee but I think it was because I like quite strong coffee.
Not to be missed, this place is fantastic!
Damn. Good. Bagels. Something so simple that is made so ridiculously delicious by these guys. Filling, plenty of choices (both in terms of bagels and fillings), and cheap. Really tucked away so it's easy to miss but definitely worth the trip! Small space though so don't come with a crowd. Great breakfast or lunch option and you can see them make their bagels right in the kitchen :)
The variety of the bagels at 5&D Bagels is amazing! They’ve got the pungent (in a good way), the sweet and my favourite – the everything. Lots of spreads and extras to choose from as well! For the caffeine folks, they’ve got coffee and each of their staff make amazing hot drinks. Highly recommended for a quick breakfast anytime of the work week!
A very quaint place tucked away in a small lane way that serves the best bagels! I had the 'everything' bagel with plain cream cheese filling and it was everything and more! The bagels here are beautifully made and the cream cheese filling was smooth and rich. Definitely worth going out of your way for!
5 & Dime Bagels is another Swine favourite. This is a tiny shop with a rather splendid bakery set up in the back. The Swine loves that you can watch the bakers make their goods through a glass wall. There is a reasonable selection of bagel options and they are available with or without filling. Today the Swine treated himself to the "Everything" and "Blueberry" bagel..scrumptious and filling. 5 & Dime also do coffee. This is another hidden gem - especially when it comes to fresh bagels. SWINE APPROVED!
I haven't been into their shop for a little bit but it's always warm in winter and they make great bagels, the pizza bagel is good but you can't go wrong.
Super delish bagels - love the corned beef or just a bagel by itself. Can't go wrong, all the flavours are yum! My favourites are the plain, everything and cinnamon & raisin.
It's time to add to the carbapalooza database with my favourite bagel people in Melbourne... 5 and Dime Bagel. If I include sandwiches, I have to include bagels. In the spirit of 100% honest disclosure, I'm going off my experience with them at the Flour Markets in summer and spring. Last time I was there I got two white bagels, one with bacon cream cheese and the other with smoked trout cream cheese - the cream cheese being the schmear they talk about in movies. And in the title of this post.
Spectacular bagels in the New York style. The range is excellent and the ingredients delicious. Absolutely worth the effort to get to its slightly out of the way (in the CBD at least) location.
first time here i tried a few bagels. then got every other one to take away. Vodka cured salmon was delicious, coffee all good. they made a little baby bagel for my daughter which of course one us over. Great choices in bagel variety and fillings.
Had a rye lox bagel when I visited Melbourne, it came with chips and pickles. The smoked salmon was fabulous - great texture and not too salty. Bagels had awesome with a decent chewy exterior that was easily bitten through to a dense soft interior. The mild rye taste helped it's fillings to shine. I personally thought the bagels were a great size and not too filling. The only thing I'd change on my next trip to is to ask for less of their overly generous cream cheese (madness I know). Batch coffee was heavenly and the blueberry and cinnamon bagels were amazing even two days later.
Really really nice Bagel! I wrongly assume that Bagel cannot be very fancy, but their vegetarian one is so yummy! Chips are also nice.
Their Bagel tastes very different. Which is beyond description! Had the dill one, definitely recommend. Staffs are extremely nice! It only costs 8-11 for a sandwich set!
This is the only bagel place to go to! I'm so lucky it's walking distance from my work so I can eat here all the time. I always get the everything bagel with one of the flavoured cream cheeses (my favorite is either the green olive and za'atar or smoked trout). Such good value and because the bread is so dense it's really filling. The staff are friendly and really fast at making bagels. You can't go wrong with a bagel from this place.
Small Beautiful Spot hidden in a quite alleyway. Went on a Thursday morning, crowd was constant but I'm able to get a seat. Love the comfy space with simple interior. I'm spoilt by their selection of bagels!
Lox Bagel never fail. Nice chewy, dense bagel. Chose the cheddar & jalapeño bagel and it didn't disappoint me, love the flavor & generous amount of lox.
However, the chips is abit too salty for me and doesn't go well with the bagel it was my breakfast and both of it require some time to bite(chewy bagel and crunchy chips) would appreciate it if they could offer something else for side like something on the softer side (my muscle hurt after eating all of these lol)
Anyway, give it a try people, you won't be disappointed 😊
It was great to see the bakers making the bagels while in the cafe. There was a wide range of flavours although they were slightly smaller in size. We had the blueberry bagel with homemade peach jam and a plain jalapeno cheese bagel. Both bagels were really fresh and crisp. It tasted good without even being toasted and normally I like all breads toasted.
There must be something, I thought to myself, that the owner of this establishment has put half of this space into a kitchen that produces bagel.
And there must be something, for a couple guys in their suit, flash in with a pinch of gold coins and grab the bagel to another hand, storm out like they couldn't get any more familiar with this little store.
And are they twins? The glassed barista?
Amazing fresh bagels, such a variety to choose from, plus bagel sandwiches to choose from with different fillings.
On this morning we ordered 2 coffees and just shared a buttered bagel which was slightly toasted, it was so good the butter oozed from the bagel.
Was impressed by how huge the bakery actually was which is bigger than the actual cafe itself. It’s good how you can see the bakers making all the bagels - all while you eat them.
5 & Dime bagels are the best!! Only open Monday to Friday, Hubby went on a mission to deliver Saturday morning bagels – that’s true love!. Bagels and cream cheese – simple as that! But is it? There are a lot of decisions to be made – what bagel? Plain, poppy, sesame, salt, everything, onion, salty garlic, rye, dill and blueberry…..
The bagels here are dense, soft and firm on the outside. I really enjoyed the onion bagel. The onion flavour was not over powering or too heavy. For the filling, I ordered the smoked turkey . It wasn't my cup of tea. I'm wasn't a big fan of the baconnaise as it was too thick and heavy. It would have been better if there was vegetables. Nevertheless, I did enjoy the bagel and I'll be back to try the other flavours.
Amazing place and worth all the hype. It's a shame it's open at such odd hours but I'm lucky I love closeby. Anyway I got the pizza bagel and it's a simple yet amazing bagel ahha. Anyway I don't need to add to the million other reviews saying how awesome this place is but if ur in the area check the dam place out :)
came in for lunch with a friend, had the lox on a rye bagel (salmon, cream cheese, capers, red onion, tomato). while i have eaten their (plain) bagels before, this was my first time here. it was really nice, easpecially the rye bagel itself. the batch brew coffee was nice as well. all up, 2 coffee's and a lox bagel for under $20, really good value, nice little space. would definitely eat here again.
I don't know much about bagels origins but I do know texture and flavor.
Had the blueberry bagel w. housemade jam and cinnamon & raisin bagel w. Housemade jam.
Bagels were dense and flavoursome, i.e blueberry bagel had thick blueberries in it and tasted like it which is a good sign.
Housemade jam was on point, sweet but not too sweet.
Overall not bad for a good old carb fix 👍
Best bagels in Melbourne. Only cafe to achieve the density, texture and aroma of the traditional New York bagels. Great selection of cream cheeses, ranging from savoury to sweet. The Lox on a poppyseed bagel is a must.
Lots of great bagels on offer. I went a bit traditional and got a plain bagel with cream cheese for breakfast - it was great! The restaurant is cool too, you can see the bakery through a huge window. Staff were lovely and the barista makes a mean chai!
HOLY BAGEL!! Have been craving NY style bagels since our trip 12 months ago - nothing I found quite came close.... Until today when I discovered this little gem on my way to work. Coffee was tasty too - but not hot enough. I'll be back for a dozen... Or ten 👌🏼
I've been here a few times and have never been let down. I'm a bit of a 'simple Simon' when it comes to bagels and just like having them with a spread rather than fillings and the spreads that 5D have on offer are THE BEST (check out their menu, seriously).
I had the cinnamon and raisin bagel with...peanut butter and jam :D I ate it so quick I didn't even take a picture for this review, haha
Also - make sure you try their iced batch brew, it's bloody delicious and the perfect accompaniment to your bagel!
Had the smoked turkey bagel with baconnaise. It was yummy. But compared to huff bagelry and Manchester press, it has less ingredients and also more pricey. Nonetheless it was a good bagel in the city and still tastes yummy! So overall I'd still rate it as above average
Do: the delicious bagels and coffees. Favourite is the bacon spread.
Don't: forget that they do a mean sweet bagel as well. The chocolate one was pretty yummy.
Tip: sit down and have a chat with Zev the barista, whilst watching the boys hand make these little beauties.
My wife loves their poppy bagels. We've tried them both plain and with generous spread of cream cheese. Lovely bagels and nice hot chocolate. Thumbs up!!!
Ok, I'm busting out the native NY'er card here and making a big call- there are no better bagels in Australia. These guys also get a big shout out for making delicious examples of NY style deli pastries.
One of my fav bagel shops in Melbourne. Freshly baked everyday. Variety of bagels. I had Turkey club on jalapeño cheddar bagel the other day and it was so gooooooood. Dill bagel was great too! Will definitely come back for more! Staff are super nice. I went there 30seconds before the shop was closed and they still took my orders 🙏🏽😂🥯🤤
Bagels themselves were great.
I am constantly impressed by the overwhelming selection of bageltries in Melbourne and the New York Style bagels at 5&Dime are certainly good. Plump and crunchy in the outside with a good chew on the inside.
But when you're spoilt for choice, it really comes down to the nitty gritty and the fillings here just didn't stand out to me.
We got the Pastrami and Egg and Bacon, Egg and Cheese bagels. They were both dry, they used a standard tomato sauce and there wasn't enough in it. The egg patty was unique but too thick so the eggy flavour overwhelmed the rest of the filling.
I'm usually a classic lox kinda person, so I'm regretful I didn't go for the OGs. Will be back to try the rest if I get another chance.
My go to. Fresh blueberry bagel with vegan cream cheese. Guaranteed their bagels are freshly baked every single day!
The bagels here are magic. Personally, the everything bagels are my favourite but you can’t go wrong! Love the pack options, sent the Lox to my sisters family and they loved it. We got the breakfast pack and felt like it was great value. We need to talk about the babka and challah though because they are not to be overlooked. Both were insanely delicious!! Got the chocolate babka and am hooked. Have never had a flavoured challah before but the almond version is superb! Like a giant, bready almond croissant but in the best way possible. Yum!
What a gem of a find!
This place is tucked away in a back-alley, and we only found it because of a road construction detour...
Anyway, the bagels are AMAZING! They are baked fresh daily, and have unique recipes created right here in Melbourne (with the spirit of New Jersey).
Check it out if you love bagels, or if you're bagel-curious... ;)
Hands down the best bagel spot in the city. Tried their Bacon Maple Chipotle and Hot Smoked Trout bagels and they were just phenomenal. With their classic NY style bagels, they added house made bacon jam and smoked trout cream cheese to take it up a notch. They were simply delicious. It's a bargain considering its only $6. Highly recommend trying their bagels!

Amazing joint! We came here for dinner on our last night in Melbourne and discovered this little gem. We had the sausage and mushroom pizza which was delicious! The pizza base dough they create for their pizzas are out of this world and is very very tasty. The service from the gentleman working tonight was fantastic and he was very friendly and made a fantastic pizza. I'll be recommending this place to my family who live here and will come back next time we're in Melbourne.
Very nice bagels. Reminded me of those lovely bagels I had in New York. Tried the Lox bagel, came in a box with salty chips and gherkins as a sides. Love the texture density of the bagel. Filling was savory and creamy.
