We decided on a Valentines brunch at L&R after a conciderable absence. Greater by a warm and friendly waitress it didn’t take long until our beautifully decorated coffee came out. An amazing love heart and hugging couple sculptured out of the creamy froth. My partners big Brunswick breakfast hit the table first and I momentarily felt jealous upon viewing the delicious fare before her . The mushrooms were warm and dark and the pork and fennel sausage teased my eyes! Then mine hit the table. ..........croque monsieur. Every bite heaven to say the least . It made love to my taste buds in so many ways! The side of tomatoe relish helped to cut through the wonderfull richness that was on the verge of being a touch overbearing nearing the end! Brunch was at 11.30 am . there was no need for dinner that evening ! We have chalked the calendar for our anticipated return !
Must say it is some of the best food I have ever eaten. Great service with welcoming staff. I'm addicted to this place.
The food is delicious!! Perfect Sunday brunch. If you catch a sunny day, it's hard to find available tables outside but inside is lovely as well. The coffee is simply amazing. There is so much love put into making their menu. You can taste it a 100%.
Near home, high quality food and drinks, best service. What else ?
Definitely a place to visit. The service was fantastic and food, scrumptious. We had the Free Range Bacon Steak, Pork Bun and Chorizo & Chicken Bun. We left with happy tummies! I would highly recommend this place!! On top of that .. the Service! Amazing, accommodating and patient. We had our 5 year old with us and he was entertained having the staff talk with him that he even drew them a Thank You note. I know I will be going back!

Eggcellent - Didn't get the egg dish (though it looked amazing) but I had a lovely quail salad. Other than waiting a bit, it was worth it! So I 5 star this because what you didn't make up in time, you made up in service and FOOD!! Have recommended it to a bunch of people, so even though you are pretty busy as it is, expect to be even busier! xo lots of love from chef to chef
Really full bodied flavours, very fresh and satisfying food!
Great breakfast place in local Brunswick. You need to be there early as it gets very busy. Awesome food and excellent
We loved it just a 30 sec walk from our house, the food was beautiful and the staff were great. Very happy we tried this place and would definitely go back again and again for the amazing food!!!
This place has an amazing breakfast menu. Something different than normal. Great service and friendly staff.
Amaze balls it looked and tasted great
Also great fabulous hot coffee which is hard to come pasted now days
L&W is just magnificent.. Food is awesome.. bring on the baked eggs and Croix Monsieur.. and the long macchiato
Lolo & Wren was one of my favourite brunch spots in Melbourne. The meals I had were consistently delicious, generously-portioned, and were even better when matched with their lovely coffee. Service was pretty good, and the cafe itself was quite spacious and cosy.
Ordered a coffee and the Mac and cheese Croque, it was delicious! Will be back again, thank you team! :)
These guys are one of the most review cafes for a reason. The quality of food and coffee is great! Returning customer and will be again.
Really enjoyed everything at this cafe!! Food was absolutely amazing (the banoffee porride was 👌) and the service was 10/10 😊 will definitely be back
Amazing the hot chocolate with smores was beautiful the staff were so friendly and fun especially the lovely Indian female server. The Apple pancakes were to die for and the croquet Monseur was indeed a classic they make all of their relishes and sauces in-house
The best hot chocolate in the whole of Melbourne! This is one of those drinks that you need to travel the whole of Melbourne to try, a nice big mug with toasted marshmallows on the top. OMG just writing about it makes me want to go back and get another one. Food is also exceptional!!
I enjoyed this delicious Banoffee Porridge which was delivered in such a fast & efficient way through the Door Dash app. Plus bonus free delivery!
Such a generous size & I loved all the elements of the dish. I added some other fruit to the dish as I had leftovers & thought I’d add some colour, but it still tasted yum without that though! 👌👏😋
Thank you @loloandwren 🙏 #supportlocal
Loved the food....some simple and some decadent recipes....both yummy! Owner preeti is very friendly and personally goes around recommending their specialities and ensures you are comfortable. Will certainly go back soon :)
Just because I can't sit down and order, doesn't mean I won't enjoy my favourite croque monsieur! Great takeaway service guys thank you
Nice cafe, perfect for a quick brunch just off the freeway. Business colleges were also happy with experience and food.
I visited this adorable little cafe on Albion st in Brunswick with a friend over the weekend.
We ordered the ginger french man & candy apple pancakes, everything tasted sensational.
If your a sweettooth like me I also highly recommend their Smork hot choccy, just perfect on a cold Melb day, with delicious melting marshmallows on top.
Very welcoming & friendly staff, I'll definitely be coming back!
Lovely cafe with a great range of food and drink options. We ordered the Spanish omelet, the Barushita and the Pig Boss. Portion sizes are generous and all of the dishes were very tasty, with the highlight being the Spanish Omelette. The crispy chickpeas on the Barushita dish were unique and delicious. Would come back to try the other items on the menu!
Great little brunch spot in Brunswick. Friendly staff and awesome coffee!
Oui oui, their croque monsieur sandwich took me back to Paris. So cheesy and delicious, I wish I lived closer so I could eat it everyday!
Cute cafe with a really nice outdoor seating area. Nice service and a lot of variety on the menu, which was great to see.
The croque sandwich did not disappoint! So much cheese you can’t imagine how good it tasted! My friend had the friend toast and oh my god yum! Thanks for a great meal
An eclectic menu offering delicious food in hefty servings, definitely worth the trek up north. Despite the somewhat unremarkable decor and ambience, this cafe is a standout for its Spanish-flecked menu and very high quality. We took a long time deciding what to order because there were too many appetising choices.
Awesome PBJ pancakes! Super friendly service and a great atmopshere for families.
Really good quality menu! Our table ordered the Prawn Po' Boy and Spanish Omelette. We were impressed with both! Will definitely be back for a second round!
Such a huge fan of this place. The new owners are so friendly and helpful. The service is super fast and the food is just incredible - the eggs with two sides for $17.95 is such a good deal.
First time visiting this local Cafe. Greeted with warm smiles and super friendly service! Absolutely loved the apple hotcakes. HIGHLY RECOMMEND for those sweet tooths like me. Very good serving sizes, delicious fresh ingredients.. will definitely be visiting again!!
Where do I even start with these babies 🤤
FOOD: I ordered the PB & J Pancakes and I hope you’re feeling lucky because these specials are SUBJECT TO AVAILABILITY but like hotcakes, they’re selling fast and I can see why 🤤 Imagine 2 thicc pancakes soft and fluffy on the inside LATHERED in peanut butter and crispy on the outside and with a delicious spike of sour from the jam!! It’s such a PB dream come true! Lolo and Wren are beyond generous with their portions and peanut butter and as a PB lover, I will gladly take every single piece! It’s even good for sharing because a PB lover like me couldn’t even finish it 🤣
SERVICE: Service was super lovely and friendly! The crew at Lolo and Wren are so pleasant so thank you for that 🥰
Lolo and Wren is a beautiful cafe with a really unique range of dishes that bring new and traditional cuisine together and is definitely one of my favourite cafes in Brun(ch)swick
Delicious succulent burgers paired with good service. My only criticism would be that their freshly squeezed juice may very well not be freshly squeezed at all. The beverage showed none of the tell tail signs of one that’s been freshly squeezed (e.g. separation). Instead, i imagine, it’s cold pressed in advance.
This is one of my absolute favourite cafes, so good that it was worth another visit for the exact same dish IT’S THAT GOOD!!
The coffee ☕️ is amazing, the porridge 🥣 is just next level and the service by the great staff matches the great tasting food!
Even better it’s in the Entertainment Book for a 25% discount! So much love 💗 for this cafe!!
Pictured is the Banoffe Porridge (with dulche de leche, banana and date compote and toasted coconut crumble) & Skim Latte!
Amazing place to go for coffee and brunch in the west.
Can’t fault their food or service - I look forward to returning and trying the rest of their menu
Amazing food, I'm a sweet tooth and this place did not disappoint. Great portions, lovely ambience and great customer service. Will definitely be bringing out of towners here!
Had brunch at Lolo and Wren on a Saturday morning. It was a sunny day so we sat outside. We ordered the apple pancakes and cauliflower and smashed pumpkin dish (Barushita) . I really enjoyed my almond chai latte- the spices were perfect, would come back for just the chai.
We both enjoyed the savoury dish and loved the crunchy fried chickpeas and beetroot. It comes on two slices of toast so is perfect to share!
The pancakes comes in a generous serving size- the dish itself is a tad too sweet for us alone but was perfect shared! Very filling dish.
Service was friendly , we were seated straight away.
I looooooooove my "Croquet Monsieur"... It was perfect with all the cheese and the ham, they added a tomato sauce like homemade. Was perfect! The service was really friendly and they said that I can bring my other half to my house.
I ordered a coffee too and it was nice.
Thanks to that I skipped my lunch hahaha what a biiiig breakfast!
Great coffee beans! Expected a little more sweetness in the smork hot chocolate. Chia pudding was highlight, real fresh! Carrot cake was soo good! Real moist

LoLo and Wren is a lovely cafe! Atmosphere and service is great 😍 Menu is varied and interesting! As a vegan I went for the Barushita: smashed pumpkin on toast with crispy chickpeas, beetroot purée, cauliflower and herbs. So delish! 💚
The cold brew coffee is also top notch 👌🏼
Situated in amongst a few other cafes on a residential street in Brunwick Wren, Lolo & Wren is obviously a crowd pleaser to the locals. A great outdoor seating area and spacious seating inside, Tim.E and myself were greeted by the warm and welcoming staff.
A solid menu, we were torn on what to order. I went with the chicken chiropan, a lot of great flavours and the size was very generous. I loved the flavour of the chicken, the relish and aoili added so many wonderful flavours, the jalapenos added an extra kick. Tim.E ordered the croque monsieur, wow talk about cheesy!! haha It looked great too and I heard very positive feedback on this premium 'toasted sanga'. The portion size was humongous!
My coffees were great, I ordered an iced to begin with and then had a standard latte.
I would like to thank Lolo & Wren for having us.
I’ve been to Lolo & Wren a few times and they have always been super consistent with their dishes! Some of my all time faves that are a MUST TRY would be their croque monsieur, cazuela and corn fritters. Everyone was super friendly there too! Will have to go back to try more dishes.
Great place, good coffee and generous portions if that's what your into. I had the Brunswick brekky which was a solid big breakfast type meal and my partner had the zucchini corn fritters (10 of them came out hah). Like I mentioned, good flavour, fresh ingredients and you won't leave hungry
4.5
I was more than lucky enough to be invited to this well established thriving cafe in the heart of Brunswick, this is definitely the place to be for the Brunswick brunch style.
I sat outside as it was quite a nice day and they have a lovely outdoor setting. Ordered the Nutella hot chocolate for myself, I was expecting more in the glass as it came half full, nevermind but it tasted nice and creamy for me :). As I was gazing through the menu I asked the waiter what a few dishes were or items on the menu and she wasn't sure on quite a few I wanted to know about, so a bit of menu knowledge lacked a bit there but she was very nice.
My partner ordered the Brunswick brunch which consisted of eggs, sausage bacon, pesto tomatoes and toast he loved every bit of it. Got the ham and cheese croque which was so nice and cheesy. Very cheesy it was fun pulling it apart, the ham and cheese went so well together it simply melted in my mouth. Last but not least I had the duck salad which was a 10/10 for me, the salad was so pretty and the colours simply popped, the duck was nice tender, crispy and very juicy. So good I'm very impressed.
Overall I love their concept and their creativity and thought that comes with the menu, hats off to the chef for having these creative meals.
We were invited to brunch at Lolo and Wren. Lolo and Wren is a cafe located in Brunswick West. It’s far away from all the other cafes however there’s always people coming in and out of here, which is definitely a good sign.
I couldn’t wait to order the smork hot chocolate. It looks so good. I love the idea of marshmallows and hot chocolate. It’s such a nice drink that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. The hot chocolate was perfect. Not too sweet and the addition of marshmallows took it to another level. Every sip was a delight . Perfect for a cold winters morning.
The menu had a couple of things to choose from. You had the Lolo and Wren classics, some gluten free and vegan options, the rolls and croquets, egg dishes, sides and two specials written on the blackboard at registry. Of course I pick the pork option, the pig boss. I also saw that they had duck confit salad and usually I don’t pick duck for brunch nor do I pick salad but got to be adventurous for once, right?! I also chose the chia seeds pudding with a mixture of fruits and the apple candied pancakes just to satisfy with sweet tooth cravings.
I really liked the fact that when you order, all the food hits the table. My first I tried was the the pig boss. I would have to say this was my favourite of the bunch. I loveeeee how it looked. The slaw was so vibrant and it reminded me of a modernised banh mi. I really enjoyed all the flavours of the bun. The pork had a hint of spice and you get a cute little surprise of Sichuan pork crackling and nuts with every couple of bites. You also know it’s good when you hate the taste of carrot but you still eat it because it’s smothered in that delicious sriracha mayo. Definitely something I would order again.
The next dish was the duck confit salad. I enjoyed some parts of the duck but some parts were slightly dry. It’s always a challenge to cook duck. It made the biggest different when I dipped the salad and the duck into that creamy sauce. There were a mixed of different vegetables. I wasn’t too sure about the figs. Overall, average dish.
Yay! For the fun part. The chia pudding with coconut chia pudding and spiced pear, season fruits, nuts and maple crunch looked freaking amazing. The plating was so inviting and absolutely adorable. I love the plates that were used and the color of everything went so well with each other. Now, eating the coconut chia pudding by itself was a bit bland but the moment I ate it with the fruits, it took the dish from a 2 to an 8. It was so refreshing and the fruit just gave it that extra sweetness that it needed. I loved the mandarin and the chia pudding. The pear was nicely poached. Also, a big plus, it’s vegan and gluten free.
My next favourite dish was the apple candied pancakes. The pancakes were done very well. The best part about it were the crispy parts! How good are they!! Reminds me of eating the crispy parts off a waffle. The syrup went really well with it and I love the idea of combining bits of apples into the pancakes. It’s quite interesting seeing rhubarb on there as well. The rhubarb gave it a sour hit followed by a creamy vanilla mascarpone cream. I thought all the flavours worked well together.
Overall, I really enjoyed our meal. I liked the creativity of each dish and the plating was very aesthetically pleasing. I can’t wait see what their new menu has to offer (I think the new menu is coming out next week).
Thank you for having us!
Best grilled cheese. 3 words to summarise what Lolo and Wren is all about. We already had brunch half an hour before coming here but Croque Monsieur is just perfect that we were able to finish it effortlessly. The cheese pull, the crisp, the sauce 😍 Too hard to resist.
When asked by this really nice staff how was it, I said “I think that is the best grilled cheese I’ve ever had” and he told me that Matt Preston from MasterChef said the same thing. Well guys, you know you’ve done a stellar job when a MasterChef judge compliments you. And thank you for the warm and wonderful service 😊
Lolo & Wren is located on Albion Street in Brunswick West. It’s located in a residential area but this cafe was buzzing with customers. With a bright & spacious interior, I really loved their use of upcycled pallets making up the counter & large table and the colour scheme was also a pretty turquoise colour with wall art. There is also plenty of seating outside & people were waiting for those tables. I was really excited to check this place out having heard fantastic reviews from foodie friends.
We started with coffee but couldn’t resist trying the Smork Hot Chocolate & I’m so glad we did. A rich, decadent hot chocolate topped with masses of tiny torched marshmallows, it was an absolute delight. Their juices are squeezed fresh & delivered daily & we loved the watermelon & also the orange, mango & passionfruit.
I’d been crushing on the Crispy Croque Monsieur so that was a must try & it was even better than I expected. With shaved ham, Swiss cheese, cheese & chive cream & coated in crispy panko breadcrumbs, it was the most indulgent & divine toastie that I have ever experienced. I will go back again to have this again, it was that good. Oozing cheese with a decent amount of thickly cut ham, seriously delicious.
We also tried the Brunswick Breakfast, a big breakfast packed with all the goodies. Bacon, baked field mushrooms, pork & fennel sausage, baked tomatoes with pesto, eggs & sourdough, it was a very generous serve that would satisfy the most hungry bruncher.
We finished with the PB & J Hotcakes from the specials menu. Light & fluffy hotcakes with whipped peanut butter, raspberry jam, berries & puffed quinoa, this dish was presented beautifully & super rich & sweet.
We had such a fabulous brunch experience at Lolo & Wren. The menu was impressive & the portions were very generous. With friendly staff, a relaxed atmosphere & sensational food, I would highly recommend checking this place out. Thanks so much for having us.
Today I got for my partner a vegan avocado and pebre salsa bruschetta take away, I couldn't belive when I open the take away package at home. Was ridiculously extremly well plated. Also the smell and the quantity of fresh herbs. Unbelievable. Unfortunately I was rushing I didn't take a picture. I will definitely go back and try for myself. Thank you guys!
Tucked away in a residential area of Brunswick West, Lolo and Wren is far from your ordinary cafe.
Stopping by for breakfast we ordered the cazuela and the barushita along with the smork and a white hot chocolate to drink.
It was a cold morning when we visited, perfect for the cazuela. This dish was pure comfort food, tomato, red wine, chickpea & chorizo ragu baked and topped with aged machengo and a poached egg. Everything worked so well together and the cheese on top was perfection.
Although I preferred the Cazuela out of the two dishes we ordered I still enjoyed the barushita. The fried egg really brought the dish together.
I highly recommend you order one of the impressive hot chocolates at LoLo and Wren. The smork has to be one of the most instagrammed hot chocolates in Melbourne. This decandant hot choclate covered in mini scorched marshmallows is a winner. I also loved that they offered a white hot chocolate for those wanting something different.
Overall I had a lovely experience at LoLo and Wren and I recommend that you check them out. I give LoLo & Wren 4.5 ⭐️ out of 5.
Lolo and Wren is a bright and buzzing cafe tucked away in the suburbs of Brunswick West. We arrived at 10am on a Saturday, and there were plenty of customers sitting in the outdoor area enjoying their breakfast in the beautiful sun. Being prone to hayfever, however, we opted to sit inside, which was just as nice - quiet and cosy, with a lovely open kitchen, and extremely friendly staff. The menu features a wide variety of scrumptious brunch dishes, but we’d also definitely suggest checking out their ‘Specials Board’ too.
We started off with a Cold Brew, which was delightful, and their famous ‘The Smork’, a rich hot chocolate made with Mork Chocolate. It was decadent and velvety, and the chocolate itself was not too sweet. The mini marshmallows, along with making it look absolutely stunning, added the perfect amount of sweetness to balance it out.
For food, I tried the Spanish Omelette, served with a side of rocket salad and organic sourdough. It was packed full of ingredients and had so much flavour - the combination of eggs, chorizo, potato, roasted capsicum, and topped with avo, sour cream and shaved aged manchego (yes, all of that!), is heavenly! So much variety in every single bite! And the size of the omelette is huge - definitely a dish to share!
I also loved the sound of the Panko Prawn Sliders on their ‘Specials Board’ too. It came with three cute little brioche slider buns sandwiched with super crispy Panko-battered prawn, tarragon mayo, sweet & sour roasted capsicum and cucumber salsa, lettuce, tomato and onions. Each mouthful was an epic combination of complex flavours and textures - from the crispy Panko prawn and the buttery brioche, to the creamy mayo, and the refreshing salsa and fresh vegetables. So delicious!
For our sweet dish, I couldn’t go past a PB&J French Toast! Lolo and Wren’s ‘Ain’t Just PB&J’ seriously exceeded my expectations! The brioche was buttery and toasted crispy on the outside, whilst being so soft and fluffy on the inside. The whipped peanut butter is so ‘peanut butter-y’, but also very light. The raspberry jam adds the perfect tartness to balance it out, and the puffed quinoa and peanut crumble crunch adds a lovely texture to the dish.
Overall, we had an extremely lovely time at Lolo and Wren, and left with super full, but very satisfied, bellies. It’s definitely a place worth checking out!
Yummy food to suit everyone
Lolo and Wren is situated in a part of West Brunswick which has/is seeing lots of change. Consequently the mix of clientele includes pensioners, families, young professionals and the many builders who are transforming the landscape. Everyone seems to fit and feel welcome.
North facing, the cafe is bright and sunny. The feeling inside is relaxed and casual but this is also a place where they take things seriously.
The service on arrival from the baristas was friendly and welcoming.
I ordered my baseline request of sourdough toast with butter and vegemite on the side. The waitress had some difficulty in understanding what was being said and when she left I suspected that she hadn’t understood the order.
My coffee arrived quickly however I’d drank it and received the second before my toast arrived... however the order had been understood perfectly.
The bread itself was a good quality and toasted just enough even though one of the slices didn’t have any toasted colour to it. The presentation was very good and demonstrated a high level of care. It was very slow to arrive.
The coffee was very good... although I’ll request it be stronger next time.
There are lots of yummy looking things on the menu... with something for meat eaters, vegetarians and vegans.
I’ll definitely back to try them.
Food 4.0*
Coffee 3.5*
Service 3.5*
Ambience 4.0*
Lolo and Wren is a little café in Brunswick West which has the locals coming back again and again. They serve up tasty food with a unique twist and lots of love with some classics you can’t go past. Lolo and Wren - hot choocolate. They do a really nice hot chocolate with mini toasted marshmallows.
Of course there are also some less naughty options for those so inclined.. but here, healthier definitely does not translate to boring. Take the Middle Eastern inspired smashed pumpkin Barushita dish for example, which was accompanied by with some crispy crunchy chickpeas for added oomph. So whether you’re in the mood for dishes filled to the brim with comfort or healthier (or perhaps both), Lolo and Wren has got you well sorted.
4.5
We went to Lolo and Wren the other day to try their famous smores hot chocolate and boy were we glad we came. Not because of the hot chocolate which don’t get me wrong was delightful but because of the croque monsieur which was one of the cheesiest and most delicious dishes I have had this year ( big call I know ) . I would travel back over and over again just to eat this again . It was a 10/10 for me !
We also got the fritters which were an extremely generous portion, the flavours were fresh and we loved the salsa that accompanied them. For the sweet dish we got the peanut butter and jelly brioche toast. The brioche had a wonderful chocolate flavour and we loved the peanut butter combined with the home made tart jam
Thanks for having us !
Lolo and Wren was abuzz and full of atmosphere when we visited on a cold cold spring morning. We may have been crazy but we opted for the outside tables in the hope of getting some of those sun rays. I had studied the menu before we arrived and liked it. There was a load of original dishes and interesting variations on classic dishes but what I hadn’t seen until we arrived was the great sounding specials board.
We ordered a latte and “The Smork” hot choc (made with Mork and covered in toasted marshmallows) and these were both delicious.
We ordered the Crispy Croque Monsieur. This can only be described as EPIC, it was a super generous serving of Shaved leg ham, Swiss cheese, cheese and chive cream and was coated in crispy panko breadcrumbs (adding to its epic ness). Paired with the homemade tomato relish, it was an absolute taste sensation.
We also ordered Braised beef cheeks with seasonal veggies and truffle infused Parmesan polenta. I was so impressed to see a beef cheeks dish in the brunch menu that I just had to try and was so glad I did. Tender and warming but a very heavy rich dish so perfect for cooler weather, like today.
We couldn’t say no to a brunch dessert to share and I am partial to a French Toast. Lolo & Wren had two to choose from (oh the joy). The regular menu had a peanut butter and jelly option but we chose the ginger option from the specials board. This brioche French toast came with a ginger syrup, ginger marscapone, ginger pistachio crumb (for the all important crunch) and fresh fresh berries. This was great, not sweet and NOT overpowering with ginger, a really well balanced tasty treat.
We really enjoyed our visit today and really appreciated the invitation.
We loved our brekky at Lolo and Wren, such a lively, bright and fun place to spend a meal!
Their coffee was absolutely on point and being a massive fan of cold drip I was loving their brew.
If you’re a fan of some Asian fusion, you absolutely have to try their pulled pork shoulder with sriracha mayo on a soft roll - absolute heaven and the meat is cooked to perfection! I’m such a massive fan of soft shell crab so couldn’t look past their burg, the perfect brunch size and absolutely bursting with flavour - amazing!
If you’re up for something a little sweeter, their PB&J is amazing - definitely not so sweet that you can’t finish it, the perfect balance!
We’ll definitely be back to this spot!
Delicious breakfast during the week. We had the cazuela, chicken choripan and candy apple pancakes. We’ve loved these dishes for years, and the quality hasn’t varied despite new ownership. Service was lovely and efficient, can’t fault the experience.
Probably the best sweet options for breakfast I've had. Their pancakes are always delicious. Not your traditional light and fluffy style, but well worth trying. Huge serve! Service is hit and miss. White hot chocolate yummy if you're a real sweet tooth.
I've seen many recommendations for this place and my friend moving into the apartment block seemed like the perfect excuse to check it out. When we entered, the only table available was the one right by the door. They kindly moved us to another table once that freed up so it was much more comfortable. We then busied ourselves with the tempting menu and placed our orders.
The Smork deserved a mention. A handful of mini marshmallows were piled onto the dark Mork hot chocolate, creating a fun and colourful effect. The first few mouthfuls were exciting but it soon became too rich and I just surrendered to drinking the delicious hot chocolate.
The enormous Spanish Omelette, Sweetcorn and Zucchini Fritters covered the table with a side serving of buttered organic sourdough and rocket salad. The delicious omelette was packed with flavour by combining eggs, potato, chorizo, smashed avocado, roasted capsicum, sour cream and shaved manchego. The Chipotle relish added a kick that really complemented the other ingredients. My friend loved her fritters, which were just as huge, while I was defeated by the omelette.
Helpful and attentive staff ensured of quick turnovers in this busy spot. The space is functional for the real estate they have to play with and you can see the kitchen in operation. Overall, a satisfying and filling visit, worth returning to check out some of the other interesting offers.
Another one off my cafe bucket list! We were lucky to be invited to check out LoLo and Wren a Brunswick classic. A cute cafe located in Brunswick west.
What we had:
Barushita: I don’t usually go for the vegan option but if you do you must go for this! Toast topped with smashed pumpkin, dukkah, cauliflower, beetroot puree and crispy chickpeas. It’s healthy and delicious!
The Spanish Omelette: we don’t usually get defeated by brunch but this surely defeated us. This delicious omelet is packed with flavour and is definitely a good one for the hungry.
Candy Apple Pancakes: With the perfect level of sweetness and real apples it’s the perfect dessert for breakfast .
Can’t wait to go back for more!
Never fails to impress on the food stakes... delicious.. gets a little noisy at times but otherwise this is a brilliantly kept secret. The food is anything but "standard" as I saw one reviewer say. Its outstanding. Service is excellent and the layout quirky with a central bench and the kitchen space in the central area. I think it works well...
From an overall design, the toilet door shouldnt face the entrance door coz it feels like you get drawn in that direction when you come in and all the tables in between feel like they are in a "corridor" to the dunny. That marks the place down a star in my view. You could change that with some screening etc.
Best croque monsieur in town, indulgent but not too rich! Also very good savoury options for brunch, we got two different pork options the last time we went and they both came with crackle. Needless to say we loved both.
Friendly staff. The slow cook pork is to the best. Omg... the pork is so soft that it feel like it just melt in your mouth. The dressing is very light and a little sour which is nice with the pork belly. I would highly recommended this place to my friends and family.
massive portions, unable to finish. Very slicm operation with a great buzz. coffee was good but not to my taste. would not return in gurry but will return
Loved the crispy eggs with meat. It was amazing... one of the best we ever tasted! Perfect to have a relaxing meal on the weekend. Would be back for more!
This is a lovely dog friendly cafe. I ordered the zucchini fitters which were absolutely delicious, probably didn't need the poached egg on the side. Good coffee too :)
A nice chill and friendly atmosphere! Really creative, interesting and delicious food! I ordered the candy apple pancakes and it was delish! Lots of subtle things going on, like the yum blueberry and rhubarb jam stuff, the warm pancake that was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and the nice maple syrup that wasnt too sweet. My sis ordered the hot white chocolate which was yum too!

Lolo & Wren is any Melburnian foodies dream destination. Why? Because the food is just that good. Brunswick West is not a suburb that I frequent often, but now that I know what cafe gem resides there I’ll certainly be back!
First off, Lolo’s atmosphere is very chilled and laid back. We sat outside at the front of the cafe to soak up some sun and admire the menu in all its varied glory. There were a lot of dishes that caught our eye but we finally settled on the Moroccan grain salad and the chia pudding.
Moroccan grain salad - one of the most memorable salads that I’ve had this year! All the ingredients were top quality and there were so many different textures and flavours. Unlike many salads with slow-roasted lamb, there was actually a decent amount of meat (and it was cooked to perfection). It was also a great size if you’re pretty hungry.
Chia pudding - This chia pudding had a wonderful coconut flavour to it. Topped with a variety of fruits and just a sprinkle of crunchy seeds/nuts the flavour of the chia really shone. This was such a fresh, wonderful summer dish.
Drinks - we also ordered a couple of juices (the watermelon was superb on a hot day) and once it was spotted on the menu, we couldn’t not order the SMORK hot chocolate. This was served with little torched marshmallows - very indulgent and the perfect sweet end to our lovely meal.
The verdict? A well-deserved 5/5... We could not fault the food! Besides being delicious, the menu is also very eclectic and exciting (even to seasoned Melbourne brunchers such as ourselves). Thanks Lolo & Wren for an excellent meal!
(We dined as guests of the cafe).
We visited Lolo and Wren just before Easter as we were invited to be interviewed by ABC radio (please see our Instagram for the link) 🙌🙌.
Flicking through all the insta pics we knew this place would be great to set the ambience for our interview.
We enjoyed the Moroccan grain salad with slow cooked lamb shoulder, freeka, pomegranate and roast capsicum with mixed seeds. What a delicious combo!
This was followed by the Sweetcorn & Zucchini Fritters with peperonata, Meredith Soft Goat Feta, pebre salsa, chilli jam and avocado. What a very generous yummy serve which I should have shared but didn’t!
For a great twist we enjoyed the Candy Apple Pancakes with walnut praline, rhubarb and blueberry compote, fresh mint, vanilla mascarpone and pure Canadian maple syrup. It tasted like a great warm open apple pie 😋😋...we added a side of bacon as someone had a hang over 😂.
Coffee was nice and smooth too - a great local for brunch and lunch.
This is a great cafe, we ordered the pork jowl, crispy croquet monsieur and the new yuzu donut, the pork was so tender and fatty with a great asian fusion flavour, the croquet monsieur is their signature dish and was delightfully cheesy and the new donut dish was amazing, i loved the citrus flavours! We also ordered the hot chocolate and a coffee, both drinks were great.
We built up a lot of expectations for this place that was unfortunately unmatched. Coffee was good but took ages to come, a harbinger that food would also take longer than we hoped for. The Moroccan salad was tasty although too grainy and not green enough. The pork checks had more fat than meat, the scotch eggs were substandard and the vegetables from the pickle can. The management was kind enough to take it from the bill. All in all the dishes are pretty pricey for their size.

Good all rounder cafe with menu heavy on the breakfast/brunch options. Had the ‘Hanneberry Breakfast’ and it was delicious and fresh.
Ambience was ok, not great. Coffee was pretty good. Service was good given how busy it was and food came out relatively fast.
Slightly disappointed the GF option for Hanneberry only had one piece of toast when mine had two.

Lolo and Wren may have opened up a burger joint next door, but they haven’t neglected the original cafe. A new menu and extra outdoors seating breathes new life into the venue. They pimp up their Mork hot chocolate with marshmallows, making it a delicious treat. Slow Cooked Pork Jowl comes with
Went with my friend and baby. Smallish cafe but nice atmosphere. Had the zucchini and corn fritters, which were yummy but could have had more goats cheese. Would happily come back.
Refreshing & cute place!

Looks great, tastes great!
This has been on my list of places to try since 2014!!
Went on Melbourne Cup, and was relieved there wasn't a queue.
Coffee was lovely, lemonade with mint was refreshing
Had the corn fritters - ample to eat, tiny cute fritter balls with egg and a lovely salsa.
Service was a bit slow on the day - they looked understaffed, the poor things! Nevertheless, the staff who were there did not let their stress levels show, and constantly had huge smiles and a can-do attitude for everything! Kudos to you.
Will be back for more :)
I’m sitting here now enjoying my second soy latte. Nursing a slight hangover the pork jowl was just what I needed. The succulent fatty pork swimming in Asian flavours coupled with a crispy egg still runny in the middle. YUM. The coffee is excellent - velvety and smooth. Staff are busy but friendly great vibe for a sat brunch.

We stumbled across this place on Facebook and decided to give it a try for brunch! The best brunch decision we've made in a while! The specials board had this peanut butter and jam pancake, exactly what I needed for my sweet tooth! The presentation was fantastic and the taste even better!
Summer has come to Melbourne so it's time for some well lit photos and lazy outdoor brunches! This one is a bit of drive out to Brunswick West but I had to do it to try the legendary Croque Monsieur - I wonder if it was worth the drive...?. Lets get started with the main event - the Crispy Croque Monsieur (Shaved leg ham, swiss cheese, cheese & chive cream, coated in crisp breadcrumbs and fried with home made tomato relish). WOW...worth the hype for sure and is simply melt in your mouth delicious. Despite how it looked its not as heavy and rich as you would suspect and the cheese & chive cream really set off the flavours. Best croque I've ever had.
What a cute cafe this place is! On a mostly residential street it can be found in a small strip of shops and is certainly worth a visit. They serve up great coffee and some pretty special hot Chocolates. They have a Nutella hot chocolate on the specials board and what they call a Smork which is a definite crowd pleaser: Mörk chocolate with toasted marshmallows on top. The food is also really delicious with a big menu and something for everybody! We tried the Moroccan Lamb Salad, the Croque Monsieur and the Candy Apple Pancakes. The pancakes were an absolute standout, they were thick and fluffy and had big pieces of apple through them and were served with a berry compote, mascarpone and maple syrup. Some of the best pancakes I’ve had!
The morrocan salad was not only pretty but super tasty, with slow cooked lamb, grains, seeds and beautiful fresh pomegranate. The Croque Monsieur was packed full of oozey cheese, ham and was crumbed and perfectly crisp. Delicious!
A great all around cafe. Good food, friendly staff and easy to park. Lolo and Wren have been around for some time and it's easy to see why. It is a must visit Melbourne cafe spot.
A classic that has been around for a while now. I heard owners have changed hands a little ago but the classic menu is still there!! Everything is quite tasty and just look at the cheese on the croquette monisuer. We always enjoying eating at Lolo & Wren. The PB n J pancakes were amazing as well. (special)
You can go to Lolo and Wren for a burger, but what you really want either one of their rolls or this "Crispy Croque Monsieur" Cheese, Cheese, ham and more cheese, then deep fried 😲🙃😝. When in West Brunswick. Albion Street is your go-to for a great feed. Whether it be any of the three amigo's, don't just choose one, go back and go back again so you can try all 3!!
The place was practically almost empty at 10am on a Wednesday, only myself and another couple. Tried their chorizo cazuela, opted for the extra poach egg as I'm a sucker for a good poachy.
Dish itself was really hearty and tasty, perfect for the cold weather. The poach egg did come out on the harder side, and I gave them the benefit of the doubt that maybe it's been sitting on top of the hot dish which cooked it through a little more than I would have liked. Overall a good meal, washed down with a decent cup of coffee and left with a satisfied tummy.
I'd possibly return to try their other dishes, but not until I've gone through my long list of places to try.

Had the soft shell crab, perfect amount of spice. Best brunch I've had in a long time. Nice and comfortable wasn't very busy when we dined. Slowly becoming our new local.
Tucked away between a couple cafes, this one is a real gem. We went there for a late lunch and ordered two yum burgers. Definitely a place to visit if you're nearby.
by F.E.E.D. | Aug 3, 2017 | Breakfast and Brunch, Brunswick, Melbourne, RESTAURANTS AND CAFES | 0 comments. A modern Australian cafe located in West Brunswick, Lolo & Wren brings trendy, urban-style dishes to this cafe-deprived region of Melbourne. Open since 2014, their focus on top quality ingredients and artisan produce has not gone unnoticed, with the cafe being awarded a position amongst Good Food Guide’s best cafe lists each year since its inception.
Love this place! The reviews and ratings on this cafe made the slightly longer PT trip (out of the CBD) seem worth it and I was not disappointed! The cafe is nice and spacious with both indoor and outdoor seating options. There were heaters outside and inside was nice and toasty. Great coffee and some slight variations on the standard breakfast fare all make this a great place to brunch. Staff are really nice and attentive and the food came out quite quickly give. The large numbers of people there. Would definitely visit again.
The location is really nice. I enjoyed the atmosphere and the friendliness of the staff.
The coffee and chai were good and breakfast was delicious.
I ordered the egg Benedicts with smoked ham on a spinach muffin and it was so tasty.
My partner had the croquette Monsieur and he enjoyed it very much.
Thank you 😊
Loved Everything We Ordered, Everything (Food & Drinks) Was Tasty, Quality & done Perfectly!
Lots of Options, Different Flavours (Cuisines), Fast Service with a Huge Smile.
Recommended and will be coming back soon
Lolo & Wren was one of my favourite brunch spots in Melbourne. The meals I had were consistently delicious, generously-portioned, and were even better when matched with their lovely coffee. Service was pretty good, and the cafe itself was quite spacious and cosy.
My husband and I visited this cafe on a whim and we’re so glad we did.
The owner was engaging and provided amazing customer service, it was clear how passionate she was.
The staff were prompt and thanked us for waiting during the busy period.
Now the food; we ordered pancakes to share and my husband swears they were the best he’s ever had.
They were not too sweet and tasted unique but pleasant, providing a great textural experience.
I definitely recommend this cafe if you’re in the area.
Very good coffee!
A friend and I got iced lattes with some brunch, and it was great! Really fresh food at awesome prices. Staff were so friendly and overall had a very good experience. Definitely recommend
