Review Soho Restaurant And Bar - Melbourne

Bihter Altuntas
The entrees were great. Salmon and prawns were just for our liking. Chicken wasn’t that great nor the pizza. The base was thin and soggy. May be place tomatoes meaty sections but not what you sliced. It damped the base once it cooled down. Mock-tails needs something extra. It tasted like a thick cordial. Spice it up a bit, put the price up. I will try other stuff later on.

We chose this place for our Boxing Day dinner. While the location attracted me to choose this place, I would never recommend this if you are a foodie. This is a loud noisy place perhaps good for partying but a big no for meeting people or for a relaxing dinner. The drinks were not too bad even though I had better at a cheaper price. What surprised me most is their half-cooked dishes and my experience was with calamari pasta and Margherita 🍕. The staffs were on their toes and quite charming so the 3 stars are for them.

Way too expensive for the quality of food. Pappardelle: pasta was still a bit raw and lamb was very dry, but the proportion of lamb to pasta was very good. Gnocchi: overcooked and mushy, sauce was watery, no depth to the flavour, most expensive gnocchi I’ve ever had but also the worst. Eggplant chips were great. Chocolate fondant was pretty good too.

I liked the interior design and dim lighting of the venue. However, there were a few things that left me disappointed. When I arrived at the restaurant for my friend's wedding celebration, we needed to wait almost an hour before we were sited even though my friends had booked a table. The staff members were unorganised and had a hard time figuring out what to do. The food took quite a long time to arrive and the taste was just average. Also, the music got louder at some point and it made it hard to have a conversation with my friends. I won't be returning to this restaurant.

We had a pizza and a southern style chicken burger. Both were special taste-wise; However, the pizza was more unique. The staff were friendly and guided us very well on choosing a pizza! The price was a bit high but was worth it!

My friend and I came here since the restaurant we wanted to go was full. Got pork belly, eggplant chips and buffalo pizza. Everything was awful. The chips tasted sweet and weird just not like eggplant at all. We couldn't finish them. The pork belly was so small for the price and the pizza fell apart. Was so soggy. Don't recommend and won't be coming back.
Dr Eve's Health Emporium
Nice vibe, good food and friendly staff. Cool place on the river bank to enjoy italian food in the city. Crisp Baramundi, caponata was excellent. The caprese salad and roasted rosmary potatoes did not disappoint either. If you are in Southbank ,pop by for a delicious bite.

Great location overlooking the Yarra River. I’d been here a few times over the years and found the food pretty average every time, but Soho was great for a night out with their impressive cocktail and drinks menu.

After walking most of the day & staying close to here, chose this restaurant to relax & enjoy a wine. Wasn't disappointed looked after straight away. Thurs night is beer & pizza night & as I don't drink beer they changed mine to wine for the same price. The pizza was delicious, staff attentive to patrons. Great value for money.

The staff were very attentive and very good. However we noticed a definite change in the atmosphere when the manager arrived and started clicking his fingers and waving the staff about. His management style was appalling and noticeable. Thankfully, the staff do appear to have a great cameraderie and did not pass this on to the customers Will definitely go back if we return to Melbourne and hope he’s no longer there to spoil the mood!!

We had a fantastic experience here for our anniversary dinner. Our waitress, Melissa, was prompt, helpful in answering our questions and super friendly. Food was yummy (arancini balls & calamari for entree, steak for main and Nutella calzone for dessert) and served very promptly. Live music was great but restricted conversation a fair bit. Would love to come here again!

Friendly staff, excellent food and a great atmosphere! Well done soho! Would definitely come back! Would highly recommend to anyone visiting south bank!

Great atmosphere, live band music, delicious food and friendly staff! Perfect place to relax in good company on a Sunday afternoon/evening.

Brilliant food and service we had Oceane as waitress and was so pleased with service. Would 10/10 recommend.

We came in last night and the whole experience was absolutely amazing! From service to food and then the band! We came just for dinner and ended up staying till the last set! Highly recommend this place!

This business employed some very honourable staff. I left my purse on a bench out by the river, Raphael found it and contacted me via Facebook which is not that easy when there are over 20 Rachel Jones in Melbourne alone. He returned my purse which had a considerable amount of cash and cards in untouched and refused to take any thing for it.

An excellent venue, with helpful friendly staff. We had an amazing evening, and were one of the last groups to leave. I would heartily recommend it to anyone visiting Melbourne for a good night out.

The service was excellent, very friendly staff. Food was great. We had a 4 year old and a 10 month old, the staff was very good helped with the pram to get it into the restaurant, went out of their way to make us comfortable. It was 7.30 at night nothing was to much trouble. Thank you for your wonderful staff and service.

Monday morning late breakfast was great.. prompt service ,delicious food, reasonably priced would definitely go back next time I'm in Melbourne to try the lunch menu.

A decent spot to attend on lockdown eve, for a rare chance at feeling that bar vibe. The Calabrese pizza was average, with the potatoes in particular lacking in flavour, however.
Foodadventureswithliv
no disappointment from Soho! beautiful restaurant alongside Southbank, we stopped here for a beautiful Christmas Eve dinner!

we tried a few things to share but my favourite was the delicious pork belly! it had a beautiful apple sauce to go with it and the pork itself was tender and crispy!!

the food came out so fast and customer service was delightful! i’d be back again for more :)

Contrary to Soho's express lunch on the website as $20, when we arrived it was $23!

Ordered:
🍕 Salsicca Pizza: mozzarella, italian sausage, friarielli and chilli oil ($23.00)
🍝 Linguine homemade pasta: with mussels, cherry tomatoes, garlic and chilli ($23.00)
🥩 250gm porterhouse steak (gf): cooked to your liking and served with rosemary potatoes ($28.00)
🥣 Truffle mashed potato: Dutch cream potato with flavoured truffle oil ($14.00)

Review:
The truffle mashed potato was a favourite between the 3 of us. It's an elevated option to the classic mashed potato, with an interesting flavorful sweet twist that makes it delicious. Really glad we got this!

Since we ordered from the express lunch menu, sharing with colleagues was definitely in order. By trying more dishes, I had an appreciation for the large mussels in the linguine, the texture of the steak and the slipperiness of the pizza. The pizza was a little too slippery and oily for my liking, as it was a little frustration to have the toppings fall off. Nonetheless, the mashed potatoes and their pink lemon lime bitter was great.

Atmosphere is very easy going, and can easily cater for our table of 15 (if you prebook). The service was decent and they surprisingly gave us the option of paying via split bill!
Felicity
You would think that paying that much money you would get a decent meal and good service but didn’t happen here. All the food was plain and the service was terrible, had a waiter get annoyed and swear as he walked away. Really enjoyed the live band though, they were great.

This place is off the hook! Waitress and hostess were extremely friendly. Top tier customer service. Food was great, tasty and delicious. RnB music, followed by live music whilst having dinner was blissful. Great atmosphere, ppl were dancing & having fun. The only minor issue was the menu, the print needs to be smaller.

First night in melbourne. Arrived from the airport very hungry and cold, ordered two pizzas.
The atmosphere is very cool, nice music and good vibes.
The pizzas were delicious, perfectly cooked and with quality toppings.
Friendly staff.
Very recommended for a dinner night.

Went last night, very friendly staff and good wine&food! We tried the Farufata pizza- very different to a regular pizza but tasted amazing! Loved the atmosphere and the fact that there was loud music. Will be definitely going back!!!

Great Happy Hour Prices, Live Music on Fridays and Delicious Pizza!

Soho really does cater for every option in the best way. One of my favourite bars and places to eat and meet on Southbank.

Monday - Friday Lunch
If you're stopping by Soho for Lunch, you'll be able to order from the express lunch menu.
Choose from the $18/$22 Express Lunch Menu. Both include the option of a Schooner of Heineken or a House wine with your meal.

Friday Nights
The atmosphere at Soho on a Friday night is fantastic. Live music, roaming pizzas on offer to customers and fantastic happy hour(s) prices.
House Wines $7
Furphy Pint $10
Cocktail Jugs $25
Soho Favourite Cocktails $13
Espresso Martini $13

Food Recommendation: Pizza!! The pizzas are delicious and are available on the $18 Express Lunch Menu. An absolute must!

Tip: Going with a group? Best to call up and reserve a table. Soho becomes quite busy during the lunch period and post-work hours.

My favourite restaurant/bar on Southbank! I always come back here. Great food, drinks, service and the live music is the best. Awesome atmosphere.
Amelia Di Donato
last night i came for drinks at the bar - loved it! had a great vibe and great staff
next morning came back for breakfast - a little disappointed due to lack of seasoning and bland taste
Milad Talebian
Well I recently visited Soho and ordered their seafood pasta for dinner. Couple of hiccups in dish, including a piece of shell which gave an unpleasant feeling at first bite and undercooked spaghetti itself, but overall an ok dish.
The best part of experience was certainly the staff and their friendliness.
Foodserra
3.5 Stars

Lamb was tender and flavoursome but the vegetables were bland. The Brussel sprouts were pretty much raw and the beetroot straight from the can. The goats cheese cream needed to be smothered on the vegetables.
Viranki Gunasekera
Great music and atmosphere. However the margarita pizza I had was disgusting as the topping was more like a soup and kept falling everywhere. The risotto was a great dish.
Rohit Rai
They know what it takes to make it great. Welcoming staff great food and never ending freshness of Yarra, if in Melbourne a definite to go place .
Jason Lay
Went on a Friday night for a group birthday dinner. Was a lot going on, seemed like an after work drinks hot spot. Had live bands and music was a little loud so not a recommended date night spot on a Friday night. Staff were attentive, smiling and friendly though. I gave this rating because the risotto was absolutely to die for! If you’re an earthy flavour fan then you’ll love this risotto. Best risotto I’ve had in a very long time, otherwise i would have given a 3 star.

I wouldn’t recommend any one to have burger in Soho. The dining experience is terrible, We waited for at least 25 mins for burgers. The portion is small(and the burger is not good at all) doesn’t match with the price. People who came after us have their meal served. We should have checked the review before entered the restaurant.
May
Really enjoyed the crab spaghetti in lobster bisque sauce, and the pear & rocket salad. Good ambience but super loud music so it was hard to catch up on a group setting . Enjoyed the live band though
Albert Goh
Terrible service. Rude. Ordered a medium steak. Came over cook and dry. Remove plates without asking.. Not recommended at all. Treat customers like idiots
Steven Gu
Soho at Southbank. Great location great live music and great environment. Don’t expect too much about the food but with good wine and nice cocktails.
Followthefoodmelbourne
After passing packed bar after packed bar along Southbank, we finally found a table free at Soho. Being in such a prime location, Soho should have so much more of an atmosphere than it does. Still, the drinks we ordered were nice (gin & tonics) and the music was good (we came on a Friday night and there was a DJ). The table next to us were tucking into an impressive looking seafood pasta, so perhaps this place might be more suited to a weekend lunch and drinks than a bar destination.
Gdkf
Wonderful location..as to be expected at Southbank. Decent selection of food on the slightly more pricer side. Ordered a pizza and lamb pasta. Whilst the service was friendly the wait for the food was too long. Considering it wasn’t overly busy, we waited 35 mins for our dishes to come out. Once the food did arrive, the lamb itself was very tender but the pasta was bordering on nearly cold?! Disappointing. Kudos to the great live entertainment there which paired with the ambiance, is what warrented their rating.

Good place to stop for brunch or after work drinks. Great view of the river and friendly staff. Drinks including cocktails are awesome. Great spot to relax.

Soho is one of a number of cafes/restaurants/bars along the Southbank promenade, and resides just across from Queens Bridge. The whole facade is an open area, with retractable awnings, and this affords river views. A line of stools and a bench face outwards to capitalize on this view. Further inside, the table settings are smart, with plain black molded plastic chairs and plain timber table tops. The menu is reasonably interesting with the usual breakfast fare, and a lunch menu including salads, pasta, and some vegetarian options. I selected the avo smash with some sides, and it was nicely presented and filling, and the coffee was also very good - strong without bitterness, served at a good temperature. The service was polite, efficient and attentive. Water and a menu were promptly provided upon my being seated. Not at all bad, and worth dropping by.

i come here quite frequently and the atmosphere is always fantastic, they have really friendly staff who recognise us and food is always consistently good

After a long walk along Southbank deliberating over where to eat we settled on Soho due to it’s really nice looking vibe and seemingly accomodating menu. This is one of the first times I’ve dined in Melbourne before reading any reviews, and my God, I wish I had before entering. When seated by the waitstaff they dumped the three menus and winelist in front of me and brought over water, it took about 30 minutes (our menus being closed and us trying to make eye contact with SIX different servers for twenty of those) until our orders were taken. We ordered the small charcuterie board, gluten free linguine, barramundi, and the crispy skin duck along with a bottle of sparkling. After roughly 15 minutes we received our wine, and our waiter walked away without even opening the bottle for us. Eventually, as an afterthought and seeing us look kind of annoyed, she opened the bottle and poured it for us. 40 minutes after that, we received the charcuterie which is a LONG wait for a meal that requires zero cooking. The charcuterie itself was sensational, I would recommend it, but not for that wait time. We then had to wait another hour for our mains. My linguine was quite tasty but way too salty, however I was content. The duck was again quite tasty, but there was no crispiness in sight - if that’s the first word you’re going to use to describe a menu item it would be worth coming through with that. My partner’s barramundi came out completely burnt and was inedible to the point that he had to ask for it to be taken back, something he had never actually done before. The waiter who removed the plate from him had the audacity to ask “did you want us to remake it or are you fine?” Like, the other option was just going without? Of course we wanted it remade! The second attempt at this dish was adequate.

The saving grace of this business was the lovely Raphael who gave us a discount on our meal and offered us a round of drinks to compensate, however we did decline those in fear of having to stay in that venue another hour to see them. He was friendly and checked in on us a lot during our 2 hour long stay at this horrid excuse of an establishment, and if he isn’t already the VM, he should be. The hit and miss food, rude, subpar service for that price should be seriously avoided. Go to Atlantic, Fatto, or Rockpool instead, but if you do choose to dine here, say hello to Raphael. He’s a champ. All 1.5 of my stars are going to that gentleman - his service alone deserves 5.

I don't really understand how you could make pasta so bad. I ordered the linguine pescatore, the pasta was so over cooked it was bloody terrible. I let the waitress know and she told me the reason was purely based on the fact they make their pasta fresh. Lady what a crock of BS. The pasta was overcooked then served in a bag so it continued to bloody cook. The sauce had a really floury, grainy texture, almost like the dough hadn't been rested. Very unpleasant. Super expensive, looks lovely however seriously bad food.
Eat_today_diet_tomorrow
Went here on Monday for lunch. It was really busy and they seemed to short of staff. The service was very very slow.

We found a big chunk of dust in out water.

However, the pasta was really good. The salmon fillet could have been better as it was so plain
Angel Khong
Superb location overlooking the Yarra river, perfect for when it's warm and sunny out. Food is decent although quite expensive for the portion, but steak night is a pretty good deal.

Few visits for team lunch but today is very disappointed. Few of us ordered the spaghetti in lunch express menu. All of us felt it is too salty and asked to recook. But after recooked it does not make a lot of difference so we just ate it. Think this might be recipe problem that bacon and cheese both add the salty taste. Please do not order this one. Want to give 1 for rating but others' food, burgers etc, looks quite ok.
Daniel
Excellent table service and courteous staff. I ordered the beef brisket and roasted vegetables. The brisket was way too fatty for my liking. By the time I discarded the fat, there wasn't much meat left. The roasted vegetables were good though.

The margarita pizza was traditional and so amazing!!! I thought at first tje lamb cutlet price was steep but once they arrived they were some of the best ive tasted! Totally superb!!!! My husband has the calamari and was still talking about it the next day! Staff were friendly and enjoyed a joke and laugh!
Antonina Sinina
You will be paying for location. If you happy with that - go there. The food is bland and average. However, nice view & music, good spot for pre drinks before going out.

Service was ok. Food was atrocious. Ordered the chicken & rice salad. It was so bland, completely tasteless. Both my friend and I didn't eat our meals. We then ordered a pizza. The base was good, but it stopped there. Continually hassled to move so they could pack our table away for the dance floor. Overall a disappointing experience. Definitely won't be back.
The food is really bad.
Chelsea Rae
The staff and atmosphere here were great, I can't fault the staffs friendly and cheerful approach to their job and thanks to this they received a 3 instead of a 2-2.5. The food however wasn't as positive, unfortunately just average overall, worth a 2-2.5 star. To start with a high the chocolate fondant was lovely, the chocolate was warm and gooey. The pizzas were delicious and the bases were great, especially the crust. The chicken coconut salad was nice but it looked very boring and pale, not much flavour either. The pork belly was cooked okay but with also not much flavour and no crackling. The squid ink tagliolini was unfortunately not very nice, the prawns tasted like they were frozen and when you live in a country like Australia you expect them to be fresh, this dish was not finished. Overall the meals were okay, nothing to rave about but the staff were awesome and live music was great.

We walked in with a pram and the manager "Johny" was quite rude about us wanting to sit outside. It was a Monday morning at 11am and the restaurant was dead. Should've left then, but we were hungry, so we politley agreed to sit inside. Two people came in after us and were served immediately. We were eventually served and the manager forgot my order so had to come back to ask. Then brought out drinks and handed them to the wrong person. The meals were average, and then I asked where I could pay, and was told to wait out the front to pay. I had to stand there for 5 minutes before anyone came to take my money! And it was expensive, which I expect for the location, but I also expect good food and service, which did not happen.

On a Monday Night, Happy hour drinks were ion order a Cocktail list with 8 drinks at only $13 each tasting delicious. We had a few House whites which was also quite good, which was nice as sometimes the House can be a bit cheap not great. It was a Monday so they had a Steak and Mash Deal for $25 plus a happy hour so it fitted out needs just perfectly, when we walked in we was hosted by a lovely lady who seated us brought us menus and Water! It was at long and she was back taking out order.

Find us on instagram: loveatfirstbite_aus

Came here for a quick lunch with a work colleague. The food was decent and the lunch menu was solid. If you're looking for a quick and filling lunch - can't really go wrong!

Went to see Mormon on the weekend, and was after somewhere for a pizza and a few drinks beforehand. Although it was a cold winter’s day, the sun was shining through so decided to head to Southbank as the resutaurants along there get a decent amount of sun.

Chose Soho – I have been there before and have enjoyed their pizzas. It was a Sunday and on Sunday's there are $12 espresso martinis and $25 cocktail jugs. There was some live music playing and at the cost of sounding old, it was a bit too loud at times.

Ordered a pizza and some chips. The chips were tasty, but for $11, it was a very small serving, and I noted some other tables had chips which were in bigger bowls. So disappointing.

Luckily the pizza was delicious – lots of prosciutto and buffalo mozzarella. Every slice had all the ingredients and I think that’s very important for a pizza!

We had our 'girls night out' here last friday night. The atmosphere and vibe of the place was wonderful with the live music putting everyone in a great mood right from the beginning. There were 8 of us and we were seated close to the front of the restaurant exposing us to the fantastic view of the city. We shared a mix of starters such as the calamari, eggplant chips, arancini & croquettes all delicious! We had a range of mains, 2 had the the mushroom risotto it was creamy & cooked to perfection, 3 had the gnocchi it was served in a gorgeous rustic dish straight from the oven with a beautiful fresh napoli sauce, 1 had the salmon fillet and 2 had the lamb that was perfectly pink! After all that we did have room for a few desserts to share, the Tiramisu and the Nutella calzone which was the perfect end to the meal! We stayed on for more champagne and dancing, the wait staff were very friendly and attentive all night. We had such a great time we will be back for our next girls night out! Highly recommended.

Came here for our weekly dating night! Had their pizza and it was so good, hopefully it would be more crispy the next time I visit, carbonara and squid ink pasta was overall good!
FoodHedonist
Came here for lunch special. I ordered the salmon with quinoa salad which came with a glass of wine as part of the deal. I liked the fact that skin was crispy and that's about it. The dish lacked flavour and was pretty boring. We also ordered tiramisu and lemon tart. Both the desserts tasted decent. Overall an average experience
Senga Barrell
Lovely food and wine spoiled by the restaurant being over booked, clumsy staff and an extremely nonchalant manager.
Due to over crowding they were putting extra tables in - fair enough, but the clowns of wait staff were carrying them over the heads of diners. Consequently my Husband got a hard crack on the side of the head with a metal table leg (hard enough to break skin and leave a large lump on his head). Whilst the staff were very apologetic, the duty manager muttered a 'sorry', shrugged his shoulders , said they were busy and slunk off. Tables continued to be moved throughout the rest of our meal, albeit no longer at head height, our table continued to get knocked by moving furniture and then the band arriving with bulky equipment. We were not the only people complaining but the manager was suddenly too 'busy' to deal with the consequences.
This place is an accident waiting to happen. Seriously over crowded, staff untrained and lacking in supervision and a manager who is either incompetent or simply doesn't care.
Christy Kang
Went on a Sunday night with friends, the food we had was great and they had an amazing band performing. I ordered Calabrese pizza with Sangria cocktail to share. The atmosphere was all lively and warm. Some staff were friendly, whilst some others were very rude and impolite. If it weren't for those with poor service, would definitely go back.
Alison Read
Loved this Italian restaurant on the main drag near the Casino- gorgeous fit out. Found us a table straight away and brought the menus and water immediately. We started with olives and focaccia with balsamic reduction. Next we ordered the linguine pescatore which came wrapped in a paper bag. They finish it in the oven and wrapping it in the bag allows the flavours to blend better- it was amazing!!! The others chose a special pizza which was topped with almonds and the third main was a beautiful salad. The red and sparkling wines we chose were brilliant. Great night , great food , good service too.
Eddyunga
Amazing food pizzas , salmon and the NUTELLA DESSERT! Omg definitely coming back! Very good service and fast meals. Great atmosphere, Live band and nice lighting.
Jordan Bassilious
When we simply asked whether they had milkshakes or not, we were rudely told that they didn't, and that we should not ask for anything that isn't on the menu.
Well, it would seem that friendly service is not on the menu either.

Although the food was acceptable, the horrible customer service overshadowed everything. We also asked for our drinks to be extra hot, but they came out lukewarm at best.

When I went to pay for the bill, the woman punched in the amount right away, rudely gestured to the machine, and tried to rush me along.

Don't waste your time here.
Joanne
Very bad experience with stale seafood and too much oil, overlooked pasta. Chef passed the message through waitress to defend the freshness and cooking as we expected. Male staff there kept defending with poker face when we paid. Not a place for quality food not even for a quick bite. Suggest La Camera at Southgate which is much much better and a good value for money.
Al
Very very poor service staff not friendly in fact rude to customers very disappointing as it is a nice spot, restaurant next door very friendly
Lynn
Without any bookings on a Valentine's day, we walked in Soho after getting a 'Please wait for one hour' from the neighboring restaurant.
We ordered pork belly as entrees, and a pizza for share. Average.
Staff were quite helpful, and the live musician that night was def good
I've got nothing complain about the riverside view, but may not come back any time soon for the overpriced mains.
Alessandro Love Good Food
try for the first time today for breakfast. my wife had poached eggs on toast nothing special I had the soho benedict eggs was cooked nicely, salmon way too much salty maybe try different quality of smoked salmon I think quality is better then quantity, guys put some herbs or something to decorate a little bit the plate too plain. coffee is way to weak. Waitress did a good job, kitchen must improve.
Liam
It use to be so good before they changed owners. Tried it again yesterday after changing owners but service is crap and managers are rude. There pizza were the best but now they just juicy soggy pizzas. Definitely not cheap for the shit they dish up. Will definitely wont be going back.
Data
Went for breakfast and ordered the pancakes. The edges were almost rubbery, as though they had been reheated. I was embarrassed about the food they had served, especially at a location such as this. Tourists will be eating at venues like this and getting a false representation of what Melbourne food is really like. An absolutely Shame.
Ling Yap
Had a quick lunch and i found the crispy duck breast and squid ink pasta with prawns. Priced around $30 for mains. Service was alright as we arrived early and they even turned on the roll on shutters for summer. Food is pretty decent and edible. It had beer tap for $10.
Janene Kotas
Food was OK, Service dreadful, one staff takes order, another delivers, they have no idea who ordered what.
Slapped on the shoulder and asked if I'd ordered the Sav Blanc, Really?,
First restaurant i've ever been to where they wouldn't take part payment on the credit card and the rest in cash..... Get decent staff who can work a computer. if the total is $2000 and someone pays $250 on card - it leaves $1750! Basic Math.

AVOID! AVOID! AVOID!
Soho...more like SoNO!!!! It was my birthday and my best friends and I were looking forward a lovely lunch by the river. We chose Soho because it looked nice and the menu was not too pricey compared to other places. We wish we checked the ratings before we sat down...firstly the service was awful, the staff were rude and inattentive.
We ordered champagne, and they brought out a completely different brand and pretended otherwise leading us to feel confused and anxious.
Our salami and cheese board resembled a packeted Coles cheese selection, the cheese was boring and cheap. One of the cheese selections was literally half a block of cheap parmesan.
Our mains were a whole other level of crap. I ordered the prawn pappardelle...no sauce, and who combines chickpeas, prawns and pasta? Like hello? Worst flavour combination humanely possible.
My other friends ordered the mushroom risotto, it wasn't anything special.
My third friend ordered the gnocchi with Napoli and basil. It was by far the worst meal we have ever tasted/laid our eyes upon. The sauce was a fluorescent orange. The gnocchi was soggy and overcooked. It literally tasted like a $2 meal from a can. We all agreed we've made much better food on a budget.
When we went to pay the bill, we were shocked by the expense...so expensive for the worst meal we've ever had!
My friend tried to pay the whole bill, but because of card restrictions, needed to pay the bill in two separate easy payments on the same card. The lady was rude, dismissive and shamed my friend for not having enough money in her account to pay the entire bill, which wasn't the case, but the waitperson rudely assumed.
They avoided us the whole lunch, it was an awful experience and I can safely say my birthday was completely ruined!
DO NOT COME HERE! YOU WILL REGRET IT!
T
Wouldn't rave on about this place but also couldn't complain! Ate by myself on my lunch break and had a very healthy very delicious lunch accompanied by a gorgeous view of Southbank! Was a very tasty meal. If you are walking down south bank I would not say no to this place!
Dkaylah
Been here a couple of times now and like it, food is nice staff are friendly and atmosphere is great especially on a nice sunny day. Staff dont rush you out the door soon as you finish your meal & very accommodating. Definitely enjoy coming here and would keep returning.
Jennifer Lay
Came here after Derby day. They managed to seat 7 of us - happy days.

Staff were very attentive.
Food came out quick for a busy night.
They also had a live band which made the experience even better😊
Cocktails were delicious, we all enjoyed our food and servings were generous.
Highly recommend this place.
John
Good food but don't expect to make a booking without them telling you one thing then doing another and refusing to listen. Booked for drinks and was told they had reserved an area at the front - only to be given tables in the dining area instead. Ask them not to setup a group tab - only to have them do this anyway. Don't bother.
Rob
I really wish I had checked out the ratings and read the reviews on Zomato before coming here. It has a low rating for a reason. My parents were in from Perth and were in the mood for a steak, so walking along Southbank we came across Soho. It looked inviting and they were advertising a $25 steak with a house wine. I bit on the pricey side (considering my local pub does a steak night for $15 and a beer) but it is Southbank so we were happy to give it a go.

So we all order the steak and a large calamari to share for entrée. We ask whether the steak comes with anything, or is it just the steak. It comes with chips but no salad, but you can order one of two sauces (white wine or green peppercorn). We choose our sauce and the house wines come out. A moment later we are told that, unfortunately, it doesn’t come with any sauce. (again, my local pub has a choice of 7 sauces included for steak night).

The all of a sudden, two steaks arrive……and no calamari. And all the steaks come with mashed potato and not chips. And a small salad. So mum and I are waiting while a third steak is brought out for dad. And we wait…and wait…and see other steaks pass us by. So we finally ask the waitress if a third plate was coming because the other steaks were getting cold waiting. She goes to check and comes back and said it wont be a moment. Then the third ‘steak’ comes – but it isn’t one full steak but three mini steaks placed on the mash potato. Really weird.

The steaks themselves were ok – a bit small and still hungry by the end of it. The waitress approaches and asks if everything is alright. I did mention that we ordered a large calamari for entrée that never arrived and we wanted to make sure it wasn’t on the bill. A mumbled apology was all we got.

As it was my folks last night in Melbourne, we were looking at spending a bit of money and time at a nice restaurant. If it was better, we would have got an entrée, desert and a bottle or two of wine. As it was, this wasn’t a nice experience so we finished up and found a better restaurant experience further up Southbank where we got desert and wine.

Unfortunately, it really wasn't worth the time or money and there are better places to get better food and service.

I have been here a few times and it doesnt quite sing out to me. Very average service, apart from the rare cheerful server. The food lacks a lot of love in both flavour and looks.

Our dinner at Soho started well. We were taken to our table straight away, which was a nice one. It was our waitress' first day. She was a bit confused about who was going to take our order, saying that someone else was going to take it. We waited a while and noticed she was being trained on how to process orders on their computer. She then returned to our table. She asked us if we wanted sparkling or still water. Usually in the past when we have been asked this question we have replied with 'still' and never once have we paid for it. I don't want to sound uneducated at all so could you imagine our surprise when we paid for our meal and found that this water that was delivered to our table was $10!! I found this to be very misleading since there was never any option of having tap water! Plus the still water didn't taste any different anyway. We were in quite a shock but the man at the register didn't really help us at all, offer a discount or an apology. Was very unhelpful and really put me off going back there since it didn't show much care for their customers. Yes I can acknowledge that it was our misunderstanding but never have I been anywhere tap water isn't given as an option! From now on if anyone says still water I will say please provide us with tap water! I have learnt from this experience!

Anyway we gave the waitress our order but she forgot my order so she had to come back to ask me what I had ordered again. I wish she could have had more help, perhaps been able to write down the order - it really was a lot to remember!!

The food was okay. I ordered the cheese board. I liked 3 of the cheeses but not the 4th cheese.

It was still Happy Hour so I ordered a cocktail! Big mistake. What a horrible drink. It looked so pretty! I really thought it was going to be a good drink but no.... Didn't taste any alcohol, all I could taste was soda water!!!! Even my boyfriend agreed - he loves soda water but found it a waste of money! He even said I didn't have to pay for it, that he would instead.

My boyfriend ordered the steak special which was $25 and came with a house wine. Sounds like pretty good value - I think it might have been a bit small though. My boyfriend was still hungry and started eating from my cheese board! He was so hungry he might have even eaten the blue cheese which he detests so much!! Amazing haha.

This is such a shame.... The appearance of the restaurant is beautiful and very romantic BUT the cocktails, the food and the service just doesn't meet expectations unfortunately. My advice to readers is to ask for tap water so you won't get ripped off like we a accidentally did... And avoid the Strawberry and Rosemary Cocktail. Might look pretty, but does it taste good? Nope. But according to my boyfriend the house wine is nice!!

I had breaky here Saturday morning and was happy with the food and service. Solid meal but nothing amazing. The scrambled eggs kept the kids happy and i had the Spanish brands were good. Coffees were on the cooler side but strength ok. Overall solid without being ground breaking!

Horrible horrible food and easily agitated waiters and they forgot my food..location and live band do not make up for this restaurant. Mixed drinks also horrible

I came here for dinner with my friends. I can say that Soho has one of the best pizza in Melbourne. We ordered San Danielle and it was very good. The staffs are very friendly and gave us complementary dessert.

Was wondering around Southbank and stumbled onto this place. Greeted by lovely waitresses and warm candle-lit table. The atmosphere is magnificent here, acoustic band playing in a romantic setting by the river.

However, I was a little disappointed by the food. I order gnocchi and croquettes which was sadly, not on par as their customer service. Decent but nothing special. The napoli sauce that went along with the gnocchi felt like it was store bought although in the menu says fresh homemade. The pricing is relatively adequate, if not slightly overpriced for their quality of food.

Strolling around Southbank, discover this beautiful place to settle our dinner. Two pokestops outside the restaurant lure me to step in to this place. We started with mushrooms and truffel oil croquettes which were fantastic. For the main, we had spaghetti and pizza. The spaghetti came with eggplant chips made from its skin, something clever and spot on. Pizza was moist and tasty. Should have discovered this place earlier and wouldn't mind to return in future.

Nothing to write home about, but far from awful.

My risotto was ok; certainly one of the better risottos I've ordered out in quite some time. The friend's spaghetti was more than enough to satisfy her. Our garlic focaccia and croquettes were very nice starters.

I would return for a drink and to soak up the Southbank atmosphere.

Have been here on a Friday or Saturday night and have never been disappointed with the food or the service. The staff are friendly and attentive, the food is always well prepared and the live music is just the thing you need to kick back with friends on the weekend. I highly recommend this place especially on warm summer nights when you can enjoy the outdoor seating!

Cool bar with a very relaxed vibe and great views. Didn't eat here, but the wine recommendation was ace and the staff super friendly. Nice place for a drink!

Went here for a business lunch - nice enough surroundings, not a greatly populated place (although to be fair the time of day and week really determined that).

Colleagues went for various different things - be it gnocchi, fish or pasta - in the end I want for the creamy pea and bacon pasta. Not bad, nice enough, a good place for a business lunch in Southbank.

Terrible service. Was not once approached by wait staff to place out order. When we finally asked someone if we could order we were made out to be an inconvenience. Waited more than an hour and 20 minutes for our food to arrive. Was definitely not worth the wait.

This place has good food and even better service. They had a fantastic live singer. Very impressed for a nice casual place to eat before the movies 👍 highly recommend it.

Gnocchi was tasteless although the whole almonds added some texture, chicken over-cooked and stringy, veal was an unrefined slab of meat. Service was also slow.

I've been there last week for dinner. Food was great, staff very nice and friendly! I just a bit disappointed about the manager which is been very rude with the staff in front of us just because we were just asking to split up the bill.
Justin
Our new favourite drinking spot, bit disappointed they got rid of the smoked salmon pizza, however the jugs and the cheese platter are great. Not too difficult to get a seat and a very chilled vibe with live music and sports on the big screen.
Brandon
The atmosphere was boisterous and lively wait staff were polite but slow on bring drinks out to tables. We ordered 5 different pizzas which varied in taste. Some were good others quiet bland and tasteless. The dough was tasty and crunchy just a bit to tough an hard too cut cause you to destroy the pizza to cut a small piece to eat. Not the best eatery but was a reasonabley priced quick meal.

Rip off!! Very disappointing restaurant, we had to wait half an hour to get our food, which was expensive (36 -39 bucks per meal) and very small! Veggies especially were ridiculously small.
Waiter was kind enough to order us an extra plate but it was way too late... Management team should do something about this because it is the worst place we ever eaten in Melbourne...
Walk away guys there are better place to dine along the river
Mills Mill
Really terrible food. We had pork belly, eggplant chips and the arancini balls. All terrible, greasy and tasteless. The waiters were not very friendly as was the older guy on the door, who I think was the owner or manager. He obviously has his nose so far up in the air that he can't see what crap his chef's are doling out. Also had espresso martinis, even they were terrible.

Pasta with only a bite portion of beef and it cost $26, way too expensive!!! Service was really bad! No one come to serve for topping up water, my friend went to get water jar and leave it on our table, the waitress came and told off "this should not be leave on the table". Seriously? That was her job, she should apologise for not being able to service us and let us self-service for water!!!!
Johan Kemp
No great service
Rather confused people
Order mixed up
Forgotten
Not worth the raw chicken Parma
For Southbank you can get better value for money

Went here last night with a group of friends for a birthday... unfortunately our pizze were pretty much all burnt so we had to send them back. Manager was really nice, he offered to change them and he gave us also a free bottle of wine to apologize! The portion of the starters were really small for the price. Atmosphere and location are great.

Horrendous!! Service and food just rubbish... Can't even get a basic coffee right then arrogant when told coffee was served cold. Never again!

Vibrant restaurant in a great location with a warm and friendly vibe. The food was great, delicious authentic Italian style pizza, great wine list and helpful and friendly staff. Will definitely be back to enjoy some acoustic music between Thursday and Sunday.

My parents were visiting me from NZ and I wanted to take them somewhere nice for dinner so picked Soho on Southbank. My mother and I ordered the chicken as recommended by the waiter and it came out uncooked with blood running through! We sent our meals back and my step father continued to eat as his veal as his was still fine they gave my mother and I calimari to have while we waited for the chicken to cook. By the time the chicken came back we were full and had already eaten our sides that were meant to go with it. I dont usually write reviews but as food poisoning is a serious matter thought I would bring to others attention.

I popped in today for a quick lunch and had Soho's spinach and ricotta filled large Ravioli with tomato sugo and basil special for $17 - it wasn't bad, but I've had better elsewhere at a similar price. It was however served steaming hot and within 15 minutes of time of ordering but the restaurant certainly wasn't what I'd call busy. I found the three young staff pleasant, friendly & efficient. The background music was pleasant up-beat vocal and was at a reasonable level to be heard over creating a great ambiance. I chose to eat in the outside area in Melbourne's warm winter early afternoon.

The Juror's Verdict: Food 2.5/5, Service Provision 4/5, Will I return: Doubtful - I wasn't overall overly impressed even though it was somewhat cheap.

Phill Jury (food critic & writer)

Asked for a Bloody Mary I got tomato juice! How can they get that so wrong! Service was non existent, Food average! Shame the place looks like it has so much potential... Won't be back!

How can you get Smashed Avocado So Wrong!. Do not dine here for breakfast, the location is all you are paying for.
The coffee was barely warm and lacked flavour. The Smashed Avocado was terrible, For $15 you receive 1 piece of toast, with avocado which is absolutely sitting in a pool of oil (I actually used a teaspoon to remove some of the oil floating in the avocado) The Goats cheese which it is served with, consists of 3 crumbles on the top, and some cold cherry tomato's on the side.
Worst Avocado I have received, service was slow, no cutlery given with breakfast I had to flag someone down before I could start eating. At $50 for breakfast for 2 I would expect better.

Indoor smoking ban? Not here!. We got a nice little table, fully rooved over, with a small hole to let fresh air in, and were horrified to receive a face full of smoke from the table next to us. "Surely Melbourne has banned smoking" I cried on deaf ears. It seems smokers rule the roost in this bar, with zero segregation between them and us. Go somewhere else if you prefer tasting your food to cigarette smoke

Birthday Delight. Took my son and daughter for her 23rd B'day dinner with a group of friends joining us.
Was absolutely delighted with our selection from the starters, main and desserts.
Each coarse met our expectation and the friendly staff were friendly focused!!
2nd time there and definitely back for more... :)

10/10. Really enjoyed my happy hour espresso Martini. The food was amazing. Definitely would recommend it x

Tricksters. Went there won 15 of my friends for a fun night out. When we got the bill they had four extra bottles of wine and awhole bunch of extra grey goose vodka!! When confronted the staff gave multiple excusing revolving the extra costs. They fixed our bill and it ended up being $260 cheeper. We felt like they tired to trick us and make us pay for extra stuff!! Not wry respectful at all.

VERY AVERAGE. My husband & I went there last night for dinner. It was quite busy for a Thursday night and we were wanting a table on the balcony fronting the Yarra. There was a table for 4 available & we asked if we could have it. The waitress checked and we were accommodated. Our orders were taken fairly promply. That's were the service started & finished. I ordered the Duck Breast with poached pear & aromatic puff pastry. My husband ordered the Tagliatelle Marinara which on the menu stated King Prawns, scallops, calamari, mussels, clams & asparagus. My dish had no :"aromatic puff pastry" as stated. When I was able to get the attention of a waitress & queried this she mumbled something & that was the last we seen of her. My husbands dish had a huge king prawn head atop the pasta but sadly that was as closest to a king prawn being in the dish that it got. As Pete & Manu say, if it cant be eaten don't put it on the plate. The only reason it was there was to make the dish look larger than it was. There were no king prawns, no asparagus and very little seafood. The service overall was very poor, very difficult to get the attention of wait staff when needed. Will not be back in a hurry.

Terrible service too busy trying to look good instead of serving customers had to ask to be served a drink even when dishes taken away were not asked if we wanted anything else, terrible terrible terrible
Squar3pantzzz
Never again. Worse service ever, food came out cold, waited 40minutes, no communication between staff as they decided to try and clear our table after we asked a different waiter where our food is. We ordered dessert and 15 minutes later someone else comes along and asks us if we want dessert. Asked where the dessert is and its still coming when its pre-made tiramisu. worst restaurant for this price in melbourne. unbelievable. highly disappointed.

Wagyu rump with hand cut potatoes and red jus. $44. Had dinner with friends yesterday, 8/03/115. Ordered the above meal. Was served 4 pieces of meat, (last time I checked a rump is a piece of chunky meat). Not medium rare like requested. On top of 4 pieces of chips & the minimalist amount of jus. The size was more of a starter than a main. Our meals came out one at a time. Our friend had to sit there and watch us while we ate. We were sitting outside, couldn't wait any longer or the food would've grown cold. Talk of false advertising!

Must try the amazing Pork Belly and the unique Pizzas. I went down to Soho on Friday 06/03/2015 to have a lunch and to celebrate one of my friend's birthday.
We could not have chosen a better place to be! Awesome atmosphere, nice and very helpful staff team, everything was served within good timing.

I can not emphasize how good is the Pork belly,so tasteful and soft that it melts in the mouth.
Pizzas is a must eat, as the base are just so crispy and thin, just loved them.

Amazing time, great wine selection and a lovely view of the river :)

Recommended to all occasions, it is also a very spacious place.
