We visited today due to it being in the entertainment book and we were able to sit outside in the lovely sunshine. They serve the sort of food that is right up my alley, fuss free Italian. Who could be displeased with a big bowl of carbs?

I visited Il Pom with a friend chosen purely for ease of location given it was the centre of both our offices and she was also in a hurry to get home and watch The Bachelor (no comment). We had the yummiest calamari and some really delicious pasta. Basic dishes but comfort style food and we really enjoyed our meals

We chose Il Pom as we were catching up with friends who were here from interstate so the Fed Square location was convenient from where they were staying. It had the added bonus of being in the entertainment book.
I went for chicken rigatoni with a creamy pesto. I was very pleased with it and frankly surprised this place has such a low rating. The rest of the table also enjoyed their food and I would definitely come back for more of this simple yet classic Italian fare
We have been here before and know the pizzas are nice... but today we had a main meal - Steak.
I had Pizza which was great, my husband had eye fillet which he claims was perfect.
However just noticed an $8.70 surcharge on our bill for weekend 😫 that’s a bit rough... all good food was great location is great
My rating isn't based on this place being the gastronomic centre of the universe or a wannabe 'foodie' review. Rather based on relative price and service. So we came here on a 50% off 'Fork' promo. The service was very friendly and welcoming. The french accent also gave it a nice touch. Food came out quite fast and for the price it was actually very nice. The house made gnocchi was surprisingly very good and probably one of the nicest I've had in Melbourne. Pizza and other dishes were fine. Would I go t here at full price? Probably not but these guys have to pay fed square leases so a small premium is expected. The place is actually better than the 3.3 rating on here.
What on earth could see me, my sister, and nephew, strolling the streets of the city, all of us so far from home?. Why… much like Dorothy, we were “off to see the wizard, the wonderful wizard of Oz!”. I had purchased some tickets to see this most revered and classic of stories in musical form, and in turn gifted sis and nephew for their upcoming birthdays…

Went here last night as it is conveniently located in Federation Square.
Staff were friendly and helpful and the layout was quite comfortable. My only gripe was the fact there was only one toilet (unisex) that wasn't even located in the restaurant. Was annoying to have to leave to go outside to the toilet and then have to wait 5-10 minutes to use it as there was quite a line.
Now on to the food. We have the bruschetta for entree which I thought was terrific. The pizza base was nice and thick and there was a good amount of flavour from the balsamic vinegar. We also ordered the calamari which was ok. I thought it was a bit stringy to be honest but it was far from terrible.
Then we finished off with a capricossa pizza. I must admit when it came out it looked less than impressive, However once I took a bite I realized that looks aren't everything as the pizza was quite delicious.
We also had a couple of the Italian craft beers which were nice especially on such a warm night. All in all a pleasant dinner experience.
Had a nice staff function here yesterday. I had the lamb shank with polenta. Was a nice dish. Also had tiramisu for dessert which was very good too. Bucket of four Italian beers 🍺 for $20 was popular as. Great place to go for good Italian.
Great stop on a sunny day. Was worried it was a little expensive but was worth it. Pizza was fresh and delicious. The crust authentic and divine. Also had the potato croquettes (called something more fancy of course). Service was especially friendly and had a lovely catch up with its friends.
Highly recommend the salami pizza or the linguine. Both were delicious and great portion of seafood in the pasta. Great little Italian restaurant in the heart of Melbourne CBD
A great spot for a quick bite. The pizza here is one of the best quality pizza's I have had in a long time (yes I eat other things besides burgers). I have also sampled the parma as well as the pasta and all have been fantastic. Worth a shot when around Fed Square.

Italian at it's finest in the cbd. We loved to pizzas, very tasty and light. Everyone loves cocktails and they do them well! And the tiramisu 😍
Dinner tonight was good Not spectacular. I did order the polenta fries and got the chips instead so that was disappointing. gnocchi was ok.
The vego pizza is surprisingly very tasty and huge.

A very convenient location at Federation Square. I came here on a windy day and the inside was warm and comfortable. Service was nice and efficient. I like the fact that they give you complimentary olives when you order a glass of wine. Food was also nice and fresh. I was surprised by the amount of seafood I got from the seafood pasta. The risotto was cooked to the perfect texture and was very delicious. A good restaurant I want to revisit again.
Our service was wonderful. Entrees we choose were very tasty and enjoyed by all four of us bruschetta was fresh, we had ricotta dumplings and a, tomato mozzarella caprese salad shared it between use for a perfect start to the dinner . Gnocchi and pizza for main pizza very yummy gnocchi sauce made the dish the gnocchi a little over cooked but still had flavour. Desserts were beautiful and nothing was left behind on the plates😊
Popped in for lunch today after going to the Ian Potter. The service was really impresses right from the start. The food came quickly and was really good quality. We both had rustic style pizzas, simple but tasty, and a good carafe of wine. It was a lovely way of ending the afternoon and I would thoroughly recommend it to people if you are in Fed Square.
We have been here a couple of times before going to watch the rugby. Parking available at fed square makes this restaurant easy to access in the city. This place is lovely for outside dining on a sunny day. Our waitresses were friendly and attentive. Meals came out quite quickly. My daughter had the gnocchi which was a bit cold but apart from that everyone enjoyed their meals. Was a bit dissapointed that we weren't made aware of the public holiday surcharge that was applied on our bill.
We will come back here again though.
Friendly service, pretty good food and a home made tiramisu to die for, in fact the best I have ever had. Reasonably priced. If you go between 4 and 6, a bucket of beer or cider ( 4 drinks ) for $20.....

Our second visit here and it was as great as the first visit. Fantastic service, beautiful food, overall a very enjoyable lunch. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.
Il Pomodoro is known as classic little Italy in the heart of Federation Square. Before 2015 not many people liked it as it was known for bad service and food. But all that changed this year. I think they changed hands as the restaurant is busier than before. We went on a quiet Tuesday night at 7:30pm. The place is quite small but there is outdoor and indoor seating. Their wine list features Italian wines and prosecco.
Reasonable but not amazing service (nothing to complain about but nothing to rave about either)
Food was tasty and well cooked, again no raving. Friend had the seafood linguini and several clams had not opened while cooking.
Restaurant is clean, well presented but a little cluttered. Next table very close which was great if you like to listen to others conversations, not so much if you want privacy.
i came here on saturday night with my family. we couldnt find anything else around the area that wasnt fully booked so we settled with il pom, despite its so-so review.
I just want to say im so happy we took the risk because it was a great experience. it was nice and warm inside and over looked fed square.

the food was awesome, the fat chips are hands down the best chips i've ever had. i hate when you go to a restaurant and pay 10 dollars for a bowl of chips and they are out of a mccains packet!
these were amazing and hand cut, with creamy aioli, i would go back JUST for the chips!!

OK so you're in Fed Square and this may not be the most quaint or authentic Italian restaurant But: the food is good/ service relaxed and you can't beat the location for convenience.
We were desperate to escape the overheated noisy restaurants along Southgate and this was perfect.
Dimly lit but hey, get your phone out!
My osso bucco was melt in the mouth delicious. My husband declared his gnocchi to be very good too.
Good wine selection. Dessert did not disappoint.

The lady boss walked by and asked who gave the seats to us. Before we could say anything or order our food, she told out menus away from us! I was horrified. She seriously reminded me of the older Italian sister in My Kitchen Rule
Ok service, a little slow at times but mostly good. Reasonably good prices.
Fantastic food and quite a varied menu with some classics (such as the outstanding spaghetti bolognese my boyfriend had) but also deliciously inventive new dishes (like my pumpkin gnocchi salad).
The deconstructed lemon tart was a standout and the best lemon tart I've ever had at a restaurant - it's pretty much guaranteed that I'll have dessert if lemon tart is on the menu; so I've sampled a lot.

What with Fascinating varied Décor, Great Food & Service Provision - iL Pom has it all - except it's Lasagne. Myself & a close friend visited for the first time & we were both impressed by the competitively priced food, I had lasagne (it was soft, full of flavour & hot), my friend had a pumpkin pizza. The décor varied from wall to wall each having its own individual style and we found the staff polite & friendly. Unfortunately I've been back 3 times since only to find that on each occasion they'd run out of lasagne - not good management, having visited well over 100 eateries throughout Melbourne & Victoria's cities and towns, I've never encountered this before. Great authentic Italian cuisine. Really good quality and tasty Italian food. We have been when its busy and when its quiet and the staff were always professional and food tasted great. Its not for people who want huge serves of thrown together ingredients, better go to the chain restaurants for that stuff. this is quality food that is authentic
Lovett Kids Love It Here. I've been here many times on busy nights & have loved it but before today, I wouldn't have recommended bringing the family. Today I bought the 3 boys in to the City to see if there was any school holiday activities. We watched the 4 wheel drives, drive around Federation Square for a while and then went into Il Pomodoro for lunch. I was a bit nervous because there are no half serves or children's menu. The waiter took over for me... which was great. He suggested the boys share a tomato and cheese pizza with chips with an iced chocolate and I had a really delicious 'adults' meal, which is normally impossible while eating with the boys. I strongly recommend this place if you want to feel comfortable with active little ones. The staff where lovely to all of us. PS I had the asparagus risotto and a glass of Riesling... very good.
Great restaurant. We recently tried this restaurant and the food and service were great. We went on a Monday. They were doing a brisk trade. Service could not be faulted (well done Nadia). Food was sensational. The saltimbocca just melts in your mouth. Lasagne was also great as were the arancini. Dessert was good too. Reasonably priced for a CBD restaurant. Nice fit out. A very relaxing way to spend a couple of hours with good wine and good food. Will be back. Give a try!
Good pizza. We stopped in for a light lunch before visiting the NGV on Sunday and shared a very nice pizza topped with good quality ingredients, especially the cheese (?mozzarella) Light well cooked base NOT greasy. Also had the mozzarella filled aranchini ,a glass of wine and an overall pleasant experience.

Friendly staff, good food. We went for an early dinner on Tuesday night and were not disappointed. We didn't have a booking but were given a nice outside table by the friendly waiter. The service was good, we weren't left waiting for anything. We shared some bruschetta which was very fresh and tasty. Both of us had a pasta, I only ordered an entree as I wasn't very hungry but the portion sizes were generous and I struggled to eat all of mine.
Both of the mains were good. We won't hesitate to return. I have no idea why this restaurant doesn't have a better overall score!

Very nice. Even thought I only had a light bite here, and not a full meal, I can say that the Chips were a perfect mix of crunchy and soft, and that Calamari ....wow! So tender yet had flavour underneath its soft batter. Definitely a job well done!
Yumo!. Stumbled across the place for dinner, turned out it was the first day of the new menu with a new chef. I couldn't fault the place modern Italian food done well will be back for sure, thank you!

Went here for lunch yesterday. Friendly, prompt service and good food. Had the spinaci salad and fungi pizza. I have been twice now, and enjoyed it on both occasions.

Surprisingly good. Loved it. My partner and I had an early dinner here on a Monday evening. Prompt and personable service, nice looking menu and great locale. We ordered a stone-cooked garlic foccacia to start with - it was delicious - fresh roasted garlic, crispy and soft bread, seasoned well, quite surprising. Complimentary vibrant marinated olives came with. Lovely selection of Italian beers, served in a frosty chilled glass. Mains - I had parmigana di melanzane (eggplant). It was cooked perfectly - silky creamy eggplant with a little bite, fresh tomato sauce and good quality mozzarella. My partner had saltimbocca di vitello (seared veal with parmesan mash) - it was moist, tender and perfectly seasoned, served with bright greens. Dessert, had the tiramisu and hot chocolate pudding. Was fantastic. The bill was reasonable. Overall a very satisfying meal in a nice locale. Can't explain the bad reviews - we really couldn't fault it.
Good for a meal before a show!. Ive been here twice now, both times I found the food to be fairly average for an Italian restaurant. Pasta is cooked well but the sauces could do with some work. The waiter was very accommodating as both times we went there before a comedy festival show and we were shot on time. It's good for a quick bite to eat around the fed square/ the forum theatre area for a good price but I would go elsewhere any other time.
Oh wow! I had the most tasty pasta two weeks ago! One girl from the staff, Valeria, very polite and friendly, recommended me the special and it was the best choice. The service is good, the atmosphere is relaxed. The dessert items were gorgeous and I will defenetely be coming back!

Love love love the food and drinks here. Carbonara is sooo good. I know only a hand full of places that can make a good traditional Carbonara and this place is right on the top in Melbourne! The beer bucket is worth it!! 4 beers for $20. I go here all the time and will continue going.
We had an amazing anniversary dinner here. Tasty food and incredible deserts. Interior is nice also.
