â€ïž: The pack came with instructions for hoe to prepare each dish, which included Cashew Chicken, Hainanese Chicken Bao, Stir-fried Greens, Dumplings, Opera Cake, and a One Night in Paris cocktail.
Dined for dinner. We sat in one of the enclosed booths. We're shared the lobster betel leaf, pork belly bao, shrimp/ginger dumplings, pork/chilli spring rolls, beef cheek massaman curry & coconut rice. For dessert I had the chocolate & gold sphere & hubby had dark chocolate mousse. I also enjoyed a few lychee martini cocktails. We enjoyed all the food, some tasty & punchy flavours in the dishes. Service was good but slow at times. Overall a good night out but an expensive one as our bill was $204!
We were invited to The George last night to try their feed me menu. I have always absolutely adored the cocktails here, they took me right back to my glorious youth and they are as delicious as ever. The Panda Colada and the Thirsty Russian were both extremely tasty. The staff are extremely friendly and the music is absolutely unparalleled here, so many memories in this place and itâs good to see some things never change. They definitely set the scene for a fun time.
Food wise the feed me menu is $50pp and involves 8 dishes. This is a good option for the indecisive and adventurous though I personally would go a la carte so I could select according to my preference. My favourite dish we tried was the shaking beef which had a lovely flavour. I also applaud the Asian style risotto for its creativity. The hot tip- I thoroughly recommend the One night in Paris cocktail, your night will not be complete without it!
Original review
I didn't think the Longroom was doing too badly interior wise so I was surprised when it was closed for a $4m revamp and reopened as The George. Now that you see the difference it's easy to realise how tired it was before. I certainly mourn the loss of the sushi bar though. I am however pleased to see my favourite cocktail One night in Paris still featuring on the menu. What I was not pleased to see was they are no longer running the Friday night happy hour where they used to slash this delight (and a whole host of others) to $10. I guess they have to pay for the renovation somehow but I for one am very unhappy with this development!
Enter a new dawn. It was always somewhat sophisticated but this is the next level chic. Gone are the days of the all you can eat tapas Wednesdays (it was like $30 and a wow of a time). It's now all very pared back and a lot brighter than before. Supreme elegance is the result but I liked it better when it was less premium and more value. Catering to a new more refined audience I guess. It's the end of an era
The George on Collins is an impressive venue set back from the main street and gives nothing but classy vibes. It's always a popular spot for after work drinks, but I only recently discovered how good their dinner menu is.
My friend and I both had a vegetarian curry which was delicious (not sure if it's still on the menu). It had huge chunks of veges and was super tasty.Â
The small plates look great also, think next time we'll share a few plates so we can try more!
The space has been entirely refurbished to a modern and contemporary bar and dining institution. Designed by Hecker Guthrie, the restaurant is a visual treat with a large, central bar area encircled by dining tables. There are also many booths lined along the perimeter with curtains if you want a more private dining space. Masterchef contestant Khanh Ong is also a part of the business now and along with Head Chef Quim Hernandez, the menu reflects both their styles of cooking and expertise.
Went here for an event and itâs an amazing venue! It was well organised and I love that the bar is in the middle of the space! Makes it easy to get a drink. The food is amazing with Khan running the show! There were duck rolls, charcuterie tables, curries and so many yummy dishes!
Wow, wow, wow! đ€
Located in the basement level of the iconic Melbourne's Georges Building, I donât think any other place would suit such a privileged and outstanding venue. This area is clearly known for its wealth and luxury stores and this place certainly doesnât stay behind and stands in its complete splendour very elegantly amongst the others. From its inviting entrance with outside sitting, to the red carpet corridor that leads to the inside of the long and seem to be endless dinning room of The George on Collins the details and environment is so grateful, refined and fashionable that its impossible not to feel overwhelmed.
I visited the place after being kindly invited to attend the TimeOut Food Awards and of course that the venue was definitely up to the challenge and to host such an incredible event! The location itself is located in a lower ground and once you enter the main doors there is a massive and long room appropriately named... The Long Room! đ actually it reminded me of the Great Hall Dinning Room of Hogwarts, from the Harry Potter movies! It has a long bar station in the middle of the room where the waitresses were incessantly serving drinks with the biggest BIGGEST smile on their faces. See, the first thing that I noticed was how positive and welcoming everyone was and obviously that sets up such an uplifting environment (in addition to the frenetic and energetic mood from the event itself!). Along the station, there were multiple bouquets of such various and colourful flowers and there were also on display the different drinks they were served. Such an amazing presentation, I was so impressed and this is what I would say in a more slang language: hashtag goals đđ„°
Both sides on the venue have plenty of tables and seats, that are semi private and secluded booths. You can choose to be closer and in a more âopenâ space, if you choose to stay closer to the bar, or you can opt for a more private experience surrounded by walls that are impressively decorated with drawings. Another thing definitely outstanding and that deserves an applause đ the drawings are beautiful and even the handwriting featured in all the designs is just dreamy.
With two major and elite chefs running this place, the head chef Quim Hernandez and the one and only Khanh Ong behind the place, food was certainly a highlight too with such incredible culinary touch and meals that I had never thought about trying before combining the best of both traditional and modern Vietnamese cuisine. Along with a grazing table with endless food options we were served some of the meals featured in the usual menu. And if there is one thing I have to highlight for sure is not only the vibrant atmosphere of the event but how everything served was high in quality and presentation.
The award ceremony itself was well presented by Khanh and it was relatively short - actually I would say it was ideal because everyone was there mostly to celebrate with drinks and food! And we sure did! Such creative meals that undoubtedly push the culinary boundaries and explores the creative side of running a business venture - obviously AMAZING in my thinking.
The meals being served ranged from smaller portions of some of the menu items to actual real servings that can be found on a ânormalâ dining experience as well as some modified to-the-occasion versions and special items. These were the presented meals:
- King Fish Song Dressed with Zesty Nuoc Mam, Cucumbers and Pickled Jalapeño
- Veggies and Wood Ear Mushrooms Spring Rolls with Nuoc Mam Dipping Sauce
- Roasted Duck Rice Paper Roll with Crunchy Veggies and X.O. Hoisin Sauce
- Avocado Rice Paper Roll, Crunchy Veggies and Mixed Herbs with Nuoc Mam SauceÂ
- Ginger Marinated Grilled Mushroom Banh Mi with Herbs, Pickles and Mushroom Pate
- Lemongrass Chicken Thigh Banh Mi, with Herbs and Tamari JamÂ
- Tempeh and mixed mushrooms with Red Gari Â
- Spicy Coconut Chicken with Yellow Vietnamese CurryÂ
From the Grazing Station there were the following items:
Charcuterie SectionÂ
- 24 Months Aged Ham Chorizo SalamiÂ
- Kaffir Lime and Lemongrass Chicken Liver ParfaitÂ
- Nem Chua Crostini
Antipasti section Â
- Roasted Red CapsicumÂ
- Roasted Zucchini
- Roasted EggplantÂ
- Pickled OnionsÂ
- Sun Dried TomatoesÂ
- SauerkrautÂ
- CrostiniÂ
Â
A sophisticated new experience with such incredible meals (as I have mentioned several times now đ can you tell I would love to visit again?). Like they say, it is certainly is a place where people come together to enjoy the best things in life: great food, drinks, company, music, laughter and service.
Thank you Google and TimeOut Melbourne for the invitation! It would certainly be a pleasure to visit this place on a lunch/dining experience!
Fantastic service and food.Â
I would go back in a heart beat.Â
I went to The George on Collins last Saturday night for a friends birthday. We had a reservation at 9.15pm, pretty late but the booking was made last minute; lucky that we got a table at all. My partner and I was the first to arrive while the rest of the party were almost an hour late.
Â
The staff were attentive and kept our drinks flowing while we waited for the rest of our party, our waiter also offered some food solution options if our party didn't make it in time. When everyone did arrive our waiter made sure that we got food in before the kitchen closed which was super lovely. When the food came to the table it was delicious, it tasted just as good as if we were the first table being served for the night, consistency is key and they have nailed that.
The George on Collins is an elegant and classy basement bar and restaurant offering a menu packed with authentic Vietnamese flavours.Â
We had the Ocean Trout Khmer ceviche, Turkey rolls, Crispy Tofu Puffs, Mushroom and Tofu Claypot and Grilled Sweet Pork Ham Skewers. The food was absolutely sensational. Our favourite was definitely the Turkey rolls which came with cranberry dipping sauce which was divine! We also loved the Ham Skewers. The meat was cooked perfectly.
The service was impeccable with waitresses appropriately checking on us and clearing plates. We would highly recommend coming here for a lunch break if you work in the city of even a drink after work!
Perfect for a lunchtime liaison with fellow foodies The George on Collins letâs you step off the street and step away from the hustly bustly Street and enjoy some mood lighting and good food. Hue stained glass dumplings with prawns, pork, with spring onion oil and heirloom carrots were a good serve or steamy dumplings.
The George On Collins is an underground hideout thatâs home to delicious Vietnamese cuisine, great cocktails and good vibes. Khanh Ong from Masterchef is now partner in the business and brings his ideas and style to this already beautiful establishment. Food and service is spot on - you wonât go home with any regrets.
What a lovely place - without the noice and quality delicious food and long queue. Great customer service and lovely dining experience. Great atmosphere. A place that I would definitely come back!! Little Hanoi experience is great if you are new to the restaurant! Variety of recommended dishes!!
Lovely dining experience with great food and customer service. I recommend the Hanoi experience as it gives you a variety of food to try and all delicious by the way. I have to admit that it rivals the likes of Lucy Liu and Chin Chin but without the long waiting times and noisiness
Lovely meal. Great decor and excellent staff. We dropped in and it was very busy but they managed to squeeze us in. The food was fresh, tasty and a decent range on the menu.
A friend of ours highly recommended this place and it was the first bar to visit in Melbourne. We sat at the bar and were âgreetedâ by a tall, bearded gentleman, who I assumed by the way he dressed was the manager, who asked âwhat dya wantâ without even looking at us. We were only there for drinks as we had a reservation elsewhere but the attitude of this man was so terrible through the night, we had to leave. First impressions matter, would never recommend this place to anyone.
Everything was delicious, quick and well presented, The crispy tofus however I will not recommend they lacked flavour.but I guess tofus are difficult.the decor and the vibe of the place is great for a girlâs night, birthday dinner and drinks or to seat in the cute little cubicles for a date night. The staff were helpful and lovely.
Also easy to make a booking on a Saturday night just a few hours in advance.
My friend suggested going here because Khanh from Masterchef developed a special menu. The duck rice paper roll was overly priced at $14 for ONE that was cut in half. It says rice paper rolls on the menu and we got one. It was nice but for that price at least give us one each and with more duck inside! The millionare eggplant salad wasn't very pleasant to eat, apart from being very grainy (with hard pieces) the flavours weren't that nice. But we loved the lamb cutlets, they were perfectly cooked and juicy. So delicious that we ordered another serving. The prawns were nice too. The service was friendly and professional.
The George on Collins has announced a new partnership with MasterChef star, Khanh Ong! As part of Khanhâs permanent residency at the revamped George, the new curated menu presents the best of both traditional and modern Vietnamese cuisine. From hue stained glass dumplings with prawns, pork, spring onion and heirloom carrots, to five spice slow cooked lamb shoulder and coriander sauce â Khanh dares to push the culinary boundaries.
As a partner in the business, Khanh is exploring his creative side, whilst delving into his first official business venture.
âI love the idea of having a bar, events space and restaurant where food is the forefront, but entertainment isnât far behind. The new offering is a reflection of all my favourite parts of life rolled together, and I canât wait for everyone to experience it,â said Khanh.
Khanh has always credited his mum for his knowledge and knack in the kitchen as the pair would routinely cook together throughout his childhood. He has developed a deep appreciation for his heritage, regularly zipping off to Vietnam on foodie trips where he enjoys the authentic flavours and scents of lemongrass, ginger, soy and chilli.
To celebrate this new chapter, The George launched Khanhâs menu with a fabulous dinner event last week. Working alongside head chef Quim Hernandez, Khanh treated guests to a generous banquet, exotic cocktails, RnB grooves and even a pop-up tattoo parlour! Make sure to pop into The George for dinner, lunch or a late night indulgence at the bar.
New York style industrial bar in the heart of the city. This venue is big and we booked this venue for a 20 friends for Christmas party dinner. On arrival it was pretty clear that this place was in the midst of Christmas party buzz and most of the lunch crowd had carried on into the evening partying. A quiet intimate dinner was not going to happen tonight and the music was pumping and the bar packed. We had a great table but music was way too loud where we were sitting to have dinner. Food was however very average and the arancini balls and calamari main not quite hitting the mark.
But once dinner was out of the way and a few drinks in a great place to party and the DJ was fantastic in his music choice.
Good 30 plus crowd. So food was a miss for me but venue, drinks and music a definite winner.
We headed down for the Tuesday night all you can eat tapas, what an amazing deal and great value for money! We rolled out of that place satisfied and very content. The food is astounding, the venue is beautiful and the service is impeccable (even got a little tour of their function spaces), I am definitely considering booking for my engagement!!!
Had a work function here this arvo and loved the decor and ambiance from the off. Had a wide selection of tapas style platters passes around which were great especially the stone ground pizzas. The tap beer selection was ok but could have been better although âThe Frothyâ pale ale did go down rather well. I fully intend bringing my family along for a lunch or dinner there in the near future.
đ±Lizzieâs first impression: This used to be the old Longroom bar but it has been newly renovated into a industrial yet classy bar at the George building.
đ©Lizzie enjoyed: My ALL TIME favourite drink in Melbourne is a night in Paris! Itâs a combination of passion fruit sweetness with some white chocolate on the martini glass. It is amazing! I love the atmosphere here on both Friday or Saturday nights. There is always great music and thereâs a large selections of food and drinks. I love the pizzas here and the cheese and cured meat platters are also delicious.
đ
Lizzie did not enjoy: they should play more old school RNB music in my opinion but nonetheless a great place to have a drink or two.
đ„Lizzie rates overall: I love this bar and I would come back for not only casual drinks but for a celebration also!
đ The fish tacos here are delicious. The fish itself was crispy and fresh, when paired with the wasabi mayo and mango dressing, it was quite the explosion of flavour.
While we enjoyed the kingfish itself, the nachos were quite hard and stale.
Pork ribs were good, wouldâve preferred if we had a little more of the lovely apple sauce.
Really liked the ambiance here - the music was chill while the seating booths give some intimacy.
Service was also very attentive. We had a good time here.
If you make a reservation through Dimmi, you can also get a discount off your food bill!
The George On Collins is a beautiful venue! I was impressed that servings sizes were generous. My friends ordered ribs and they were happy with the amount of meat they got.
The staff wonât advertise happy hour prices so make sure you ask if there are any happy hour specials!
I was happy with my cheese board for $20 and thought the servings were good.
We ordered a Bombe Alaska. Itâs quite large so can be shared with another person. A staff member will put it on fire. Looks so pretty! However the burnt bits created by the fire didnât taste nice. I liked the ice cream though! Itâs worth it for the theatrics.
Perfect dinner if you want to eat close to the theatres. The venue also lets you split bills!
Food and service was amazing
I love the white chic cocktail
Service is fast and very friendly
Give the arancini, chips and calamari a shot !
I work in BHPB Staff services ..went for quick caffeenie fix 1100HRS Feb 1,2018..First impression..
Ordered a coffee and chocolate fudge combo brownie was ultimate ..my kind of choco sauce with mild crunchy brownie.. no nuts in it.
My first visit ,I saw owner taking a guest showing around..Wish I spoke to the owner shared some recipes.I hope I shared my 10 year food experience with them in Melbourne
Unique modern Australian ambiance...woody presentation...
Will try out their vegan or veggie cuisine there next time with.
Barista impressed me...
Highly recommended.
Stop look and listen here , theres a hidden gem great setup good quality coffee here very experienced barrista nice and creamy.Great fast service Must try.
Arrived here at around 3:10pm and the lunch service finished at 3. The chef was kind enough to keep the kitchen open to make us what was a delicious meal. The ambience is lovely, private and peaceful with nice decor. Enjoyed it so much we went back a few days later for lunch at around 2pm to miss the busy 12pm period.
Was only in there quickly but beautiful and you have the best bouncer I've met called Anthony give that man a raise đđhelped me out a bunch
I always wanted to try out the new 'Long room' but it was always crazy busy.
We popped in here in between meetings to grab a coffee and soy hot chocolate.
I must admit the layout was great as we sat in a booth and the restro looks nice with a refreshing renovation too.
Will be back for a meal soon.
Came here for to meet up for date night on a Friday. The space is beautiful and the atmosphere was palpable - it was already packed with no where to sit with a standing room only situation. I overheard someone waiting for a table and the wait was 45 mins at 5.30...talk about high demand.
Other than that the Truffle Grilled Cheese sandwiches were AMAZING - best I've ever had. Cocktail list looked amazing and I'm keen to go back to try the whole menu!
Perfect for after work drinks with a group of mates but don't expect to be able to have a private (or easy to hear) conversation.
A Chronicle Of Gastronomy
+3.5
The Long Room, the long-time haunt for after-work drinks, was rebranded to The George on Collins earlier this year. Gutted and completely refurbished, the slick and modern interior has been designed by Hecker Guthrie. White walls and ceilings brighten up the basement space. The bar still takes centre stage, encircled by dining tables. Booths run around the perimeter, complete with curtains if you want that extra bit of privacy.
We finally got to have a sticky beak at the George after the renovations. It is looking pretty slick now with cool booths and a modern long bar that runs down the middle of the venue. The highlights for me were the lamb meatballs, really juicy and the sauce wasn't too heavy. We also enjoyed the salami prosciutto flatbread. The calamari was okay however maybe being deep fried with the Asian salad was a little heavy. Friendly staff, would be worth going on a Friday night for after work drinks!
Definitely cleaner and better than the long room with less sleazy guys. Haven't eaten there yet but the drinks were good. A bit loud and crowded but that's to be expected after a relaunch. Will try again for some food in the near future.
My friend and I love to go for after work drinks on a Friday and we thought we would give the new âLong Roomâ a go. Inside The George has changed slightly. The booths are still on the side but the bar has changed sides. We found the booths nice and cozy and it was nice that there was table service as well. We ordered a few wines and some chips. Wine was great and chips with the black aioli was interesting!
Newly renovated the George on Collins becomes a classy establishment. With the new transformation there's a a lot more intimate booths which provides more privacy for the customers. I only had a coffee this visit but will come back for food in the near future
A great place to have a relaxed but speedy lunch with work colleagues. Also loved the fact that it wasn't overly busy which meant that we could hear each other talk without having to yell. I had the calamari which was crispy and tender. Good wine selection as well.
I am still heartbroken that my beloved Long Room is no more, however I have been enjoying the odd Friday night at The George. The cheese board was spot on and the salt and pepper calamari was delish. Of course, washed down with a few glasses of prosecco makes it taste even better ;)
The George on Collins is Melbourne's newest European-influenced social destination. The subterranean space which is housed in Melbourne's iconic Georges building, has just undertaken an extensive four-million dollar renovation delivered by award winning Melbourne interior design studio, Hecker Guthrie and it looks pretty darn slick.
To the events team,
I wanted to take the time to thank you and your events team for the amazing hospitality you provided on Friday 15th.
I have received amazing feedback from the 40-50 people who came and they all had a fantastic time!
We were all amazed with the corner area reserved for us and the bar service, i highly recommend everyone to book a private event via the events team!!
Many thanks Katie!!

Sophisticated new dining venue in the city. Restaurant/ bar is impeccably designed with a central bar and plenty of tables and secluded booths. We tried the scallops wrapped in bacon for entree and then went for the porterhouse steak with Moroccan spices and the rocket, pear, walnut and Parmesan salad. I really enjoyed every dish. The cocktails were also delicious, especially the white chocolate and passionfruit Martini.
Great service and a very cocktail choice
Food was good to. It has a great relaxed feel I'll be back scallops Omg đČ
The drunk oki well say no more
This is one of the best bars Melbourne has to offer. There are plenty of options for drinks. The restaurant is packed for dinner. The items are innovative and flavorsome. Definitely recommended for a group event.
Great venue for a drink or two and happy hour is until 11 pm how awesome is that! Order the one night in paris cocktail - their specialty. You can even hire the venue for private dinners or parties, definitely recommend for a night out here
Happy hour is way awesome! Their one night in Paris is sweet but so so tasty, the white chocolate taste is fairly distinct. The staff is so friendly and constantly make sure you're alright. and the food is pretty good too!
Liked the ambiance for drinks but it's as loud as it is in a club, which made dinner conversations a pain. Not ideal for dinner.
The George On Collins is less than a month old so I thought it would be a good to suggest cocktails after work and see what's new in this notoriously busy locale.
The place was a humming even bang on 5 when we arrived. Our timing was perfect for the $13 cocktails as part of the opening month happy hour specials (until 19/08/17).
A suave and sophisticated venue which has a long long long bar and though busy, people tended to get served pretty quickly. Suits took up much of the standing space by the serving side of the bar. The venue retained the raised up booths against the east wall and the bar itself seperate the venue into two halves... one with mostly dining and the other mostly drinking.
Another characteristic the George retains from Longroom is the volume of the music and dim lighting. All good for tonight but those wanting an in depth conversation perhaps get a booth near the front.
We cheated a little and took a dining table in the service area although we only intended to get chips to accompany our cocktails. Delicious chips they were to and served up with a curious looking black garlic dip that tasted only mildly of garlic
As far as the cocktails themselves went the fist round was literally hit and miss. Kelisi enjoyed her passionfruity One Night in Paris so much so that she stuck to it for the duration. I sipped it a few time and it was a keeper.
My Havana Collidor was pink which wasn't as I imagined it but I guess that come from the pomegranate. It didn't taste how it looked and wasn't very sweet at all. I wouldn't recommend it at all just didn't seem to work. Next round I stuck to the tried and true and ordered an espresso martini which was very sweet and delicious.
Table service was attentive but a little confused. At one point three seperate staff members came up to our table within the space of about 2 minutes to see if we needed to have our order taken. Not a biggy.
The Longroom is dead... long live The George On Collins.

Had a fabulous dinner here a couple of weeks ago - we shared quite a few plates off the menu & all were amazing (slow roasted lamb was a hit!). Loved the new fit-out!
What a great atmosphere the moment you enter the building and then into the restaurant itself. Three of us dined there last night. We had a booth. We were served by Thea, and when asked, assisted us in selecting our share plates. Obviously had a very good knowledge of what was on offer. Also a sense of humour.
We enjoyed Grains Salad, Gnocchi, Lamb Chops, Chicken Terrine, and for dessert, Lemon Tart and also the Brownie. The Cheeseboard for 2 had a tasty cheese selection, however small, but included dried figs, quince paste which we also enjoyed. We look forward to returning. Give it a try.
I went here last night with a group of friends. It was such a nice experience. I love the fit out, it looks great. And the high stools are soooo comfortable. Good wine, good friends, cosy atmosphere and very yum food. Perfect night out, I'll definitely be coming back! Tip - share the lamb, it's delicious!
Have done an amazing job renovating this place. Great ambience and place for a drink. Had dinner and it was Not great and expected more. Probably won't eat here again but definitely be back for drinks.
The George was excellent! The renovations are impressive and the ambience was on point for a relaxed meal and drinks after work. This is definitely going to be the venue I choose to host clients whether for breakfast, lunch, dinner or just drinks. Looking forward to coming back!
Dining is an all-day affair with Head Chef Tom Brockbank (Estelle, No. 8, Pollen Street Social) at the helm. Servings of canapes and bites at the launch event provided a tasty preview of Tom Brockbank's culinary touch and the menus on offer at The George on Collins whilst also highlighting the quality of ingredients.
Working around the corner on Bourke St I am so glad to have finally found a local that just does things right. The cocktails are some of the best I've had and the food is brilliant (especially the calamari).
OMG! What a devine venue!! Was so excited to walk into the former Long Room! What ambience! Absolutely gorgeous venue full of class. I will definitely be a regular here.
Don't expect massive servings here, but smaller creative dishes not for people wanting a massive deal with value for money.
This place is like a massive wine bar. Great service. Great booths. Great for groups if you love classy venues and feeling special. Well done to the owners and designers. Best wishes to this top venue! x
Delicious dinner. Started with the sourdough and olives and mac & cheese. Loved the saltbush on the mac &a cheese. Couldn't go past the lamb. What a feast! And so reasonably priced! Didn't really need our sides but the chips were yummy anyway. Chef Tom had a special birthday cake delivered. A very special night out. Thank you!
I was pleasantly surprised when I went to The George to meet up with my sister on Friday night, I thought the renovations are very welcoming, warm and relaxing, the staff were very friendly and attentive, we shared several entree plates Fish taco., Mac and cheese , Grilled halloumi slider, Polenta chips with black garlic aioli and Corn croquette which were all very tasty & delicious, the proportion size of each dish was perfect. We had a glass of red and a very nice cocktail .
Well done to the Chef Tom & all of the staff at The George on Collins we will be back
Awesome place to be .
Great night life and fantastic decor . Brought some friends for grazing drinks and food .
Food was outstanding and fully recommend to try the food . Fits the concept and decor.
I had the market fish and I'm glad I came .
Thanks the George
Best renovation I've seen, very stylish and modern with no expense spared.
During the day the ambiance is perfect for chilled city hideaway, coffee and food were perfect to match. The smashed avocado was to die for.
Great for Friday night drinks, the bar says open until 3am Friday and Saturday nights so is plenty of fun after 10pm.
Much better than the old Long Room! Modern, upmarket and fresh - loving the booths and that the bar is now in the middle and there is no ugly carpet! :) Cocktail I had was ok, not amazing. Wines were great.
The George On Collins is the latest hot spot for the post 9-5 crowd, taking over the basement of the heritage listed Georgeâs Building that housed The Long Room for 12 years.
I can't believe I'm the first to review! A large group of friends and I had drinks and nibbles at The George on Friday night, curious to see how it had changed from when it was the long room. The fit out is beautiful, plenty of private spaces, dining tables as well as booths and standing bars. It is a lot brighter than what it was and is really lovely. The lights dim as the night progresses and the music starts thumping around 10. The staff were friendly and accommodating, the cocktails at $19 delicious (one night in Paris strongly recommended if you like a fruity one). Let down were the chips - $14 from memory? for a tiny wire basket of soggy fries (we still ordered multiple though). The antipasto platters were better value at ~$30. The polenta chips were ok. The flatbread were delicious and are like little pizzas with very thin base but also steeply priced. In keeping with the gorgeous surrounds I guess! We had a great night, thank you the George, will be back for more cocktails.
Great atmosphere. (Although, it can get a little too noisey once the crowds arrive after 8pm). Great service. Great array of drinks and the 'feed me' menu even caters for vegan's and vegetarians.
FRIENDLY STAFF, NICE AMBIENCE AND GREAT COCKTAILS
The Long Room is in the basement of the George on Collins building (the Old George's Department Store).
It is more bar than restaurant but the food is still very good.
Accessible from either Little Bourke St (walk through the George's Building to the Collins St end) or directly from Collins St, the Long Room occupies a large cavernous area in the basement. It is down a series of steps so will be challenging for people with mobility issues. Once inside, there are also steps up to the booths along the side of bar and down to the bathrooms as well.
Food is more an accompaniment to the drinks than the main show but is very good.
Gluten free options for all dishes. Serves are relatively small so if you are hungry, go for the bigger of the two set menus ($75 / person).
Cocktails are fabulous!
so delicious!!! everything was super fresh and tasty - some must haves for me were the pork belly, cauliflower roti, king fish ceviche + pork spring rolls! really nice ambient atmosphere too
If anyone likes good cocktails, amazing food service and great vibe, this is the place to be. My first time here was January 2021 and have been back many more time since. I love their cocktails and you must try their green curry and the chicken wings. They are to die for. Many places have good food but lack in customer service but not at the Georges. I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for good drinks, food, vibe and service. The price is also decent.
Oof. This place - was super good.
Excellent service, great ambience and awesome food!
Stand out dish: Dumplings.
Possibly THE BEST dumplings Iâve had in my life! And trust me - Iâve had many. Oof that was good. The skin was excellent, the meat well seasoned through. Delicious. The killer though was the SAUCE. XO sauce with chilli oil etcâŠ.. amazing. Amazing. Amazing.
Take my advise - get yourself more than a plate of these babies. Youâll have no regrets.
The taco: this was good!! The garnish brought out the dish and the roti makes a good alternative to the usual idea of a taco.
The Bao : They say itâs their signature - but if youâre limited on stomach space, give it a miss. It was nice - but pales in comparison to the dumplings and tacos.
The fried chicken : Fried chicken was a tad bland - but the BOMBS with the curry sauce it was accompanied with. Which is perhaps why the chicken wing itself was bland so that the curry could be the star. Combines was a good dish.
Green curry : It was a little loose in consistency for my liking. I expected a nice thick curry - but was a tad disappointed with the loose consistency. The taste and the good vegetables in it was good though.
Pork belly : The skin was rubbery đ„ș But otherwise the meat was good and the slaw was the best thing on the dish. It brought the whole dish together. So so good.
Overall food is good. Some hits and some sort of misses but I think itâs well priced and itâs 5 stars cos the dumplings were simply divine.
They serve two feed me menus for $40 and $50, but we opted to go small. Cassava Cracker which was fresh, cool and tasty. Kingfish Ceviche which was worth going back for. Roti Cauliflower Pancake. Just enough. All quite delicious and satisfying. Service was excellent. Their recommendations were spot on. They were attentive but not overbearing. Just what was needed. Atmosphere was worthy of the George brand.
Visiting Melbourne from Sydney. Came to the George not knowing what to expect and was absolutely blown away. The cocktails and the team there are amazing and not one to miss. If we were locals we'd be in here every week.
Amazing staff, cocktails and atmosphere!!
Anytime we are Melbourne we'll be coming here!
Fomo Feed Me. Ensure you're ready and starving. $$ good price for 10 menu. Food was very nice and tasty, service was excellent and the cocktails was to die for. It was my first time but definitely will coming for next year's Family Christmas gathering.
