Staff were friendly and attentive the whole time we were there. Bright open space, relaxed atmosphere. Food was incredible, some interesting flavour combinations that worked so well. The herring ones were our favourite. Beautiful and fresh food

I’ve wanted to come here for dinner for some time and I am so glad that I did. My partner and I had the best Scandinavian food here.

The service was excellent throughout the night. We initial started w a Akvavit Board which was a flight of mini smorrebrod, and matching akvavit. OMGosh this was spectacular. The drinks were delicious and the matching food, amazing!!

For mains we had a beef cheek, which just melted in my mouth. Just perfect.

The pork was delicious and the skin was crispy. Yummo! The heirloom carrots were still crunchy and really tasty.

The aranchini balls were yummy, and the meatballs were delicious and they came with a nice slice of picked cucumber.

My boilermaker came with a beer, a akvavit and a mini smorrebrod. Once again this was soo good, and the whole night was just fantastic.

If you haven’t been here this place is an absolute must visit, although they only do dinner Wednesday to First nights.

I am definitely going back. This place was one of my highlights of 2020!

My friend had a wedding here and omg it's such a beautiful venue and didn't need much decor to make it nicer.

The food was also really nice too, unfortunately I don't have the names of the dishes but I had a salmon and it was cooked to perfection! Love the lemon meringue tart dessert too!

What an awesome find this was, totally satisfying my craving for smørrebrød, a Danish open sandwhich on a slice of dense, lightly sweet rye bread.

*Dild Sild! Oh the marinated herring! This is what I was craving for - I could have had 5 of these. The herring is marinated and is still firm, juicy, lightly sweet and not overly fishy. The pickled red onions offset the herring with a beautifully sweet acidity.

*Bla Ost - The blue cheese has a light flavour, dense but still crumbly. It's not overly powerful as to punch you in the mouth with a week-old sock like some blues do. The beetroot is soft and provides an earthy freshness. The onions are literally blow torched on the surface and provides a bite of smokiness.

*Forloren Hare - a slice of meatloaf with a crown of onion and blackcurrant chutney. You really need a bit of fruity chutney with each bite, as the meatloaf can be a little dry and heavy.

Denmark House is actually a members club and it has that exclusive feel, but they are open to the public. Don't feel intimidated if you haven't been - just head up the lifts to the third floor and you're greeted with minimalist design and large windows that let in natural light into the large dining room.

Obsessed with this spot, which is part restaurant and part social club. I went for dinner one evening and was surprised to see that there weren't many vegetarian options despite what I saw on the online menu, but the staff were willing to accommodate. I started with an akvavit flight paired with mini open faced sandwiches. For just $24, the flight felt like great value and was paired perfectly. I also drank a Mikeller beer which is pricey, but one of my favourite breweries and well worth the price. My main dish was the only veggie option, the vegetarian smørrebrød. Luckily, it was a bit different than what I got in the flight. It's at once fresh but also heavy, featuring raw fruit and veg as well as hard boiled eggs and a mayo-coated salad. It's a bit of an odd combo, but works surprisingly well together. My partner also had great things to say about the pork and potato dish. The space is a bit odd as well but in a really novel and pleasant way. It feels like a function hall and is a mix of cosy and minimalist and has ample room for groups.

I’m blessed to be surrounded by good coffee in the queen/bourke street area. Love that the people here are friendly and offers you soda-esque water while waiting. Ordered a skinny flat white - thought it was really good and delicious (has a nutty flavour). One of the better coffee places in the area - although the cafe faces stiff competition, it’s well-positioned to thrive with good service and great coffee. Haven’t tried the pastries - would love to explore that option next.

A very nice to place to taste danish cuisine. Recommended to book the table as the restaurant is always booked especially on Fridays.

People service here are very nice and polite. You might expect a delay in your food serving, but that gets compensated by the tasty food they serve.

Suggested: go for Akvait and danish wine's. Thry are next level

When the restaurant gets it so right, you have to physically restrain yourself from jumping for joy and running around hugging the staff…

The quality of produce is so squeaky clean, masticating each smørrebrød feels like an honour.
For the carb-fearing zealots, the rye bread on each dish is thinly sliced, ensuring the eclectic toppings remain the hero, with no threat of dastardly demise into the depths of gluten hell. (GF/Paleo is also available, FYI).

Three to five open sandwiches per person is the breezy recommendation and playing it coy, I went for the minimum - enough to put a spark in my step for traipsing to the next meeting.

As soon as you walk in you will notice how clean it is inside, the staff were very nice. I ordered the "Feed Me Danish" for lunch. I got 5 open sandwiches, a crumbed Rockling, fried salmon, poached chicken, seared beef and tomato and egg. They were all so delicious and I can't pick a favourite. I also ordered a little Danish pastry for after lunch which was like magic, the pastry itself was so light and crisp and fluffy and just incredible, it was filled with a lovely warm raspberry jam. I could have easily eaten a dozen of them. I would 100% come back, there is such great service and ambiance. The food was so fresh and amazing. next time though I will definitely try to herring.

Denmark House is a stylish setting that provides pretty decent Danish food, as authentic as can be I'm told! They just released the Christmas beer brew also. If you haven't Youtubed this phenomena yet then you should. All the breweries give out free beer and people get rather happy on the streets..
Back to Denmark House - the service is quick and we tried a variety of dishes. Highlights: tartlets were good, but kind of luke warm. The shooting star was on point, and the pork belly was perfectly cooked. Don't forget to try the the Dream cake. Lowlights: Not sure how I feel about the caramalised potatoes but I think it's just me!

Impressive lunch. Good ambience, excellent service and great food! It may be a bit pricey, but worth it for the dining experience. Staffs very attentive for customer's need. Foods themselves were served amazingly neat and attractive, of course they're taste great too! My highlight is the one with goat cheese, pear and walnut. YUM!

What a hidden gem?!
Came here for a long lunch (TGIF), great selection of Denmark’s traditional “sandwiches” (they’re not really sandwiches)..
Every slice had the perfect amount of condiments with great taste.
Oh yes, the shoe string fries were amazing too!

I have to admit I always get Denmark, Sweden and Norway confused 😅 but i won’t get it confused anymore now that I’ve visited Denmark house! Many may assume that it is a members only restaurant but it’s open for all and serving authentic yet delicious danish dishes!
I couldn’t get over the chicken and asparagus tarts, pork belly and salmon with creamed kale.
Be careful of the Akvavits as it’s 60% alcohol and can really burn your throat! can’t wait to go back!

So, first time here. Usually I go a few times before having to much of an opinion. Been meaning to go here for a while, but... it was a bit pricey for dinner and rarely had time for lunch on a week day.
So.... I’m a sucker for a drinks and food (most are!) they do a flight to Copenhagen, 4 bites of Denmark, 4 shots from Denmark. Oh boy!!! Love it, do it, now!

Well we went there for lunch and it's amazing, very different to other venues in Melbourne. Great food, interesting drinks and good service. I will be back, need to try the new dinner concept they have.

There’s a hidden Danish oasis on Little Bourke St called Denmark house, where you’ll enjoy their cuisine in a restaurant with Danish design, and furniture designed in the motherland. It’s spacious, simple and clean, yet comfortable – after all, the Danes did come up with hygge.

Dining at Restaurant DANSK was a pretty unique experience. The food was deliciously unusual (not many danish restaurants in Melbourne, although not sure how similar Dansk’s cuisine is to what you would get in Denmark); they were made up of uncommon flavour combinations especially the desserts. Staff were friendly, the dining area was quiet, spacious and high-ceilinged which made the ambience (and overall dining experience) fantastic.

Pretty much each and every single smørrebrød that we sampled today was nothing short of spectacular. It’s clear that much care and thought have been put into designing this rather diverse and photogenic menu, and coupled with the flawless execution, these signature danish sandwiches that Denmark House have dished up were nothing but sensational.
Not only did we find the flavours and textures well-balanced, but more importantly, the unique combination of ingredients were excitable and complementary of one another on each and every item. Needless to say, this made for a rather impressive meal.

I have absolutely no idea about authentic Danish food but it seemed legit to me. A lot of pumpernickel bread and pickled fish - if you're not a fan of these foods, maybe think twice before coming here. Ditto if you don't like pickled food in general. I quite liked the food but, at least for me, it's not the type of meal I could do often.

It's a nice airy space with high ceilings and lots of natural light. Which is good, as it reminds you it's 2pm, not 10pm, and maybe you should be getting back to work and not having that 3rd schnapps.

Good service and definitely worth a try for a business lunch that's a little different.

Very good dinner here. We went for the 5 course version, the food was all very well done and good value. The staff were also knowledgeable and helpful and provided great service.
Curry-pickled fish was delicious, as was the burnt cauliflower dish. Some fantastic seafood too. The cheese and fig dish was a bit lacking, it was sweetened with way too much honey, which was all we could taste.
Overall a good experience well worth checking out.

I've now been coming to Restaurant Dansk at Denmark House for more than 7 years - for lunch and dinner as well as various events, often meeting up with or bringing along friends, family or colleagues, or introducing new patrons to the place (I'm yet to encounter anyone who doesn't get genuinely impressed with and attracted to the place!).
I can safely say it is like my second home due to both the food, the authentic ambience, the Danish design and not least the service. I love hanging out in the relaxed and informal atmosphere of Bar Dansk, and the instant access to the restaurant with its combination of classy and gutsy menu items and my favourite, the more casual smørrebrød. Done in a way that no one - in Australia or Denmark- can match. Do yourself a favour - don't miss this unique Melbourne food venue.

Restaurant Dansk serves Danish Smørrebrød in a spacious, chic setting. We were a group of four and we ordered two lots of the pre-selected open sandwiches (five in each set) and a couple of additions from the menu offering many other varieties we wish we had room for. The sandwiches were presented beautifully on long wooden serving boards and we truly enjoyed every single bite! To top things off, the service we received throughout the meal was impeccable! We hope to return during our next visit to the city.

Restaurant & Bar DANSK has a great atmosphere, with bright interiors and natural lights filtering through tall ceilings. I was spoiled for a large array of choice of sweet and savoury smorrebrods from their lunch menu. These open sandwiches on dense buttered rye seem authentic to the Danish culture, with toppings such as pickled herring and gravlax. The highlight for me was the fried herring fillet topped with radish and egg yolk – I loved the briny taste of the fish, the crispy texture and the creamy yolk together. I also enjoyed the cod roe ‘patty’ very much, albeit the remoulade was a bit overpowering. Others worth mentioning were the roast beef where elements like the fried onions and pickled cucumber worked very well together, and the chicken salad topped with herbs and sweet onion crisps (addictive!). The smorrebrod I was looking forward to the most, the duck breast with red cabbage, was unfortunately a let down as the meat was very dry. For the dessert smorrebrod, I highly rave the goats cheese, picked pear and walnut open sandwich. It came with a generous amount of soft goats cheese which balanced nicely with the sweet pear and crunchy nuts. This is the sandwich I’d reorder the next time I’m here! The other Danish toast dessert we ordered had an odd after taste from some of the spices. Overall, I really enjoyed the calm atmosphere and DANSK is great for quiet lunches. DANSK offers fine dining and meticulous approach to each and every one of their dish and I consider it a treat!

Summary: Go for a unique and relaxing dining experience, my favourites were the fried herring (savoury) and the goats cheese (sweet) Danish sandwiches. Their paleo bread was great too.

My lawyer boss is part Danish so he is part of the Danish club. He makes a special effort to be part of the club here as opposed to the Melbourne club because it doesn’t exclude women. He is a big supporter of women as he has a wife and 2 daughters who are all lawyers!. They have a large selection of alcoholic beverages and one set of beers are cleverly called “7 sins”. Below is a picture of one of the sins – Sloth.

My partner and I had such a great experience here. We attended their first ever "good beer week" event. The staff were super accommodating of me, and once I explained I didn't drink beer (I bought the tickets as a present to my partner), they provided me with a number of fantastic alternatives.

The food was spot on, with the fish and chips appetiser and the beer porridge dessert particular highlights. The staff were friendly and chatty, and the space itself was on point in terms of that Scandinavian furniture vibe. Will be back again!

Restaurant Dansk is located in Denmark House and is indeed a hidden treasure, located in a nondescript office building.  The restaurant is spacious and well lit with contemporary Scandinavian decor, creating a casually elegant atmosphere. MAD 4 Bubble Sencha. An interesting selection of drinks. Champagne beer brewed with sencha green tea that was light and bubbly with notes of green tea and lime.  Heering Cherry Liqueur that had a strong cherry flavour with chocolate undertones.  Finally, the traditional Scandinavian spirit, Akvavit.  Served chilled, very smooth with herby notes and hints of anise.

Living in the city for the past decades, I’ve almost exhausted most places to dine.Well, after I discovered this little gem tucked away at the heart of the city. Restaurant Dansk is part of Denmark House which is the home of the Danish Club. The venue just oozes elegance with its minimalistic and rustic furniture and collections of fine arts. Runned by the famous Danish chef/manager Bente Grysbaek, I have a high expectation.

Came here a few weeks ago for a Monday lunch, didn't realise it was a buffet so very pleasantly surprised. Got to sample a number of open sandwiches, all of which were delicious. The decor is nice and open with lots of natural light (unlike lots of trendy restaurants which require head torches).

Service was excellent, the young girl serving us explained what each of the sandwiches were and took good care of us.

Best of all saw Nathan Brown there, so a good outing.

Deliciously different. I hate buffets but loved this one. Saturday lunch was just so pleasurable. The decor, the food the service all just right for something different. The food was predictably seafood, sauces and pork. The presentation low key the quality first rate. My favourites were the poached salmon with dill sauce and the pork with potatoes. But everything was great quality and the sauces subtle and authentic. I drank Smoking Scotsman beer my partner Chardonnay. But next time I will get into the Aquavit .

Quiet and comfortable. I visited with a friend a few months back and had a lovely, quiet meal: there was one other occupied table during our service; it being earlier on a Wednesday evening. I found the atmosphere to be extremely comfortable and friendly. The staff were very friendly, very efficient and knowledgeable and we felt welcome in a way that you wouldn't often experience in a Melbourne CBD eatery.

Food wise, my friend had smorrebrod while I enjoyed the pork cutlet special. Both were delicious and very reasonably priced, especially considering the generous portion sizes. Neither my friend nor I drink alcohol, so our meals, tea afterwards and a shared entree worked out to around only $60.

The impeccable service, casual and comfortable environment and amazing food will definitely draw me back there. I highly recommend the bar and restaurant to those who prefer a more intimate environment and are interested in a somewhat unusual (for Melbourne) cuisine.

Had a lunch here recently which consisted of a smørrebrod buffet. The $19 per head for as much smørrebrod as you like was good value. However charging a 3 year old the same amount is a little bit off. I think he had 2 pieces at best. Service was excellent and the chatter of familiar Danish accents reminded me of the time I spent there. Most certainly worth a visit.

In Melbourne we are spoilt with a plethora and variety of food. Being such a cosmopolitan city, the choices are endless, Japanese, Chiense, thai, Italian, Greek, French…the list could go on. However even as a fairly well informed Melbourne foodie (or so I like to think), I was surprised when David suggested we visit Restaurant DANSK for lunch…to have Danish food. I was excited! I loved eating with our family friends the last time mum and I were in Stockholm, in Sweden, so I imagined it would be somewhat similar. Hidden in an unassuming apartment building in Little Bourke Street, I would have never expected a restaurant to be housed there! You stroll in, past the discreet sign to inform you it exists, and take the elevator to level 3, delivering you to the Denmark House. It is in here, you can find DANSK. The interior is sublime. It is absolutely everything you love about Scandinavian design from head to toe (or ceiling to floor?). Airy and bright, refreshing, yet minimalist, but no
