Although we weren’t able to visit 48h Pizza & Gnocchi bar due to lockdowns we were lucky enough to win a couple of tickets to attend their online gnocchi making classes. They provided the recipe and we sourced the ingredients. The class went for about an hour and we followed along made our gnocchi at the same time. Perfect guidance and all the tips and tricks from master gnocchi makers. Totally recommend for a fun activity to take your mind away from your four walls. They also offer pizza making classes which would also be fun I’m sure.
48H Pizza & Gnocchi Bar was an Italian restaurant serving pizza and pasta. The ambiance was that of your typical Italian restaurants; loud and warm. For dinner we ordered the award winning Di Parma pizza and Al Tartufo gnocchi. The pizza had a nice thin crispy base topped with delicious mozzarella, and the gnocchi had a pretty firm texture with an intense truffle flavour. The Cuore di pistacchio we had for dessert was sinfully delicious with its generous pistachio spread filling. Overall, we were very satisfied with our dinner!

We made a booking here and surprisingly it wasn't too busy given its accolades, this was soon dismissed however as people packed through the doors later that night. We all start off with our variations of negroni, mine had had a concoction of fernet, rosemary, a twist of lemon and a sugared rim. I soon found out later that night that it was one of their strongest ones, we all loved our drinks and well priced.
We ordered a few starters leading up to the pizza and gnocchi. The polenta chips with melted asiago cheese was soft yet rubbery. I don't particularly see the fascination behind this dish but my friends loved it. We also shared their wagyu bresaola carpaccio, salty cured meat paired with rocket, shaved Grana Padano and celery. The combination was a peppery sharpness and celery to take the edge off.
We couldn't pass up some good old fashioned homemade porchetta, we were considering getting it on top of pizza but wanted it in its natural state. A mound of finely shaved porchetta, very lightly seasoned which emphasised the natural porkiness of the meat. Juicy and the pork skin had a candy-like texture to it. To the side was Montasio cheese paired with a mild fruit mustard, not sure if we were meant to eat it with the porchetta but was a welcome addition.
For pizza we got their award winning Di Parma which is pretty much a classic combination of fior di latte, buffalo mozzarella, prosciutto, rocket and shavings of Grana Padano on top. The dough is perfectly blistered giving off a slight bitterness, the texture was perfect giving off a soft bounce and wasn't overly chewy. One of the best doughs in Melbourne. The hand torn buffalo mozzarella tasted fresh despite it being imported, milky and juicy. Side of chilli oil was given as a side accompaniment.
A majority of people were ordering pizza (and rightfully so) however their other popular item is gnocchi. We barely order gnocchi going out and I was keen expand on this. We got their ragu which was a mixture of beef and pork mince, very simple sauce. The gnocchi itself was light and airy like a pillow of soft potatoes, it just vanished in my mouth. I'd love to give their other variations a go one day. Served with some parmesan on the side.
Finishing off was some tiramisu, nice balance of sponge, mascarpone and liqueur. Textbook winner. We also enjoyed their white chocolate panna cotta which was extremely smooth and creamy, paired with vanilla ice cream, amaretti and other bits and bobs.
Rating is heavily weighted on their pizza and gnocchi, both outstanding. Service was met with smiles and I'm currently debating what my favourite pizzeria is in Melbourne, this is definitely a contender.
Good place for late night food. It was 8pm on weekday but still packed. Love the service, thanks for Fabio who nicely recommended food for us. The lemon cheesecake is absolutely worthy to try.

My friends and I came here on Saturday night for dinner. I've visited the Elsternwick establishment and I recall having a really enjoyable experience there so I was eager to try this one out too. Walking in, we were greeted by a friendly female staff member who immediately gave us menus and asked whether we wanted any drinks. Similar to the other one, the decor of the restaurant was very warm and welcoming albeit in a rather small setting. The menu was massive, offering a wide range of pizzas and gnocchi. I ordered the Al Pesto which came with basil pesto, mint leaves, organic broccolini, walnut and Grana Padano. We also had a Margherita pizza.
I ordered the Margherita pizza which was nice and big. The pizza’s crust was fluffy and crusty and it was also a very good size. The gnocchi was absolutely delicious - a very generous serving of basil pesto but perhaps there could have been a little more broccolini. Everyone at the table enjoyed their meals! I was very satisfied afterwards which is always good! I would definitely recommend 48h to anyone - they also have a wide selection of wines!
Best pizza I’ve had in a long time! Tasted very authentic and came out in a flash. Also had the gnocchi, but this wasn’t much of a highlight. The quality of the gnocchi was great, but the sauce was average tasting.

Excellent service, good house wine. It’s taken us a few goes to get here, private functions of being fully booked (on a weekday). So is it worth the hype? Maybe. The gnocchi was fantastic, nice and fluffy, light and not gluggy at all. Pizza? Great. But is it Australia’s best? It’s a matter of personal preference. Rocket on pizza isn’t really my thing. The dough was excellent. So it’s great, but relatively more expensive than other places. Maybe stick with the magherita?
We were really lucky to score ourselves a table for two on a Saturday night. The place was packed at 6pm.
The restaurant was a small and intimate dining experience. We both loved anchovies and tried their anchovy bread. Then shared a gnocchi and a pizza.
Service was prompt and friendly. Food came out relatively quick as well.
We loved everything and can confidently say the best pizza and gnocchi we’ve ever had. The flavours were out of this world and balanced each other very well. The dough of that pizza definitely wins best pizza base and the jus of the gnocchi, extremely addictive beware.

I have nothing negative to say about 48H Pizza. Everything was perfect, and reminded me of being in Italy. Definitely one of the best pizzas I’ve eaten in Melbourne. Desserts were great too, especially the blueberry cheesecake! Waitress was very nice, and gave us some extra time so we could order dessert despite the venue being very busy. Thank you so much!
Been here multiple times now, delicious pizza and gnocchi. Some of the best bread/pizza base I’ve ever had, so light with a delicious chew, gnocchi fluffy and never dense.

Found another fantastic Italian place to bring your fellas. Apparent from its name, this place is specialised in pizza and homemade gnocchi. The 48h name referring to the minimum time to wait for the pizza dough to produce light, fragrant and aromatic crispy pizza crust. 48H Pizza & Gnocchi Bar are a well-known favourite in the area, so we weren’t surprised to see that they were still pretty busy when we arrived for a late Sunday dinner.
The restaurant has a lovely modern brick yet cosy interior, and a warm and inviting atmosphere.
The staff were lovely and attentive throughout our entire meal.
Between the two of us we ordered a mozzarella bread, the agnello gnocchi, a caserta pizza and a rucola salad. For drinks we each ordered a limonata (a popular Italian fizzy lemonade) which was tasty and went well with the food.
All the dishes were made from lovely fresh ingredients, came out quickly and were delicious! The salad by itself was a bit too oily and salty for me, but cutting up the apple and eating it altogether really balanced out the dish (it wasn’t there just to look pretty). I found the pizza also a bit too salty for my taste, but loved the texture of the base and generous amount of toppings on it. The gnocchi was soft and soaked up the tasty sauce well.
Amazing pizza, the prosciutto pizza was the best I’d ever had. The crust was perfect, fluffy and thin and didn’t get soggy. The gnocchi wasn’t the best however I am used to eating my Nonna’s

South Yarra offers a diverse range of different cuisines and 48H Pizza and Gnocchi Bar is certainly up there as a fine example of authentic and delicious Italian food. I had a dinner meeting and arrived before the crowds began to gather. Parking was a challenge as Malvern Road is a clearway during peak hour.
We ordered a Calzone pizza, Ragu gnocchi and a garden salad. The taste and quality was excellent and my friend and I had an enjoyable meal sharing these plates. Much thought as gone into the menu and I look forward to trying some of the other dishes on offer, including the antipasti dishes.
The restaurant itself is well designed and has a feel that almost makes you forget where you are. The wine bottles breaks up the decor and is a reminder of Italy. Service was friendly, professional and the cost was affordable. Definitely recommended! I will be back.

We are overjoyed to be invited to 48H today, one of our absolute favourite places. Unfortunately today was a bit more hit and miss then our previous visit. The service was quite slow but this may have been driven by the restaurant being at practically full capacity (and of a Tuesday night no less). It’s certainly popular in any case and for a few very good reasons.
Their Mare Nostrum which is a sensational melted bowl of melted cheese complete with bread lid is now available in an additional three variants. The original however is a classic for me and we couldn’t go past it’s decadent deliciousness. We followed with the Regina gourmet pizza which boasts air freighted buffalo mozzarella, what can I say Italians really do do it better.
Our third dish tonight was a pasta from the board. All three dishes listed involved plum so I assume they are taking advantage of seasonal produce and all of the options sounded very unique and quite intriguing. We chose the organic pappardelle with a plum pesto, ricotta, salmon tartare, rosemary and sage. Unfortunately I didn’t detect even a remote hint of plum and the delicate tiny cubes of salmon were lost in the herbaceous flavour. It was far too subtle for me and lacking impact.
We finished with the gnocco alla Nutella which was kind of a mini calzone. It was so delicious I wanted more, they definitely need to increase the size of this dish if you are sharing. I’m not sure if the vanilla ice cream accompanying it was made in house but it was certainly delicious. Great way to end the night

When the ex DOC crew open a restaurant you are pretty much guaranteed delicious pizza and pasta. Realistically a bar dedicated to pizza and gnocchi is a pretty safe bet regardless of who is running it. The science behind the name is 48 hour leavening of the flour to achieve the traditional light dough you get in Italy.
We ordered the rucola salad with hazelnuts and green apple and two different types of gnocchi with they make with gluten free flour to make the little pillows lighter. Caprese salad was a little small for $18 but I guess you have to factor the whole air freighted fresh buffolo mozzarella factor.
Margherita pizza is obligatory but we also tried one of the gourmet ones marinated salmon with caviar and goats cheese washed down with a few rounds of aperol spritz. La dolce vita.

Prosciutto di Parma w Airfreighted Buffalo mozzarella... the salty of the prosciutto was perfectly balanced with the juiciness and sweetness of the Mozzarella. Perfect pairing? a Bellavista flute of Bubbling wine.
I had the slow cooked Lamb traditional Gnocchi paired with a glass of Barbera.

Very attentive and friendly staff! The gnocchi was soft and delicious and the 48h salmon pizza was fresh and cheesy. Everything was comfortable, from the atmosphere to the mood to the flavour of the food. The passion fruit cheesecake was deliciously creamy and rich and came as a very generous portion. The chefs definitely seem to know what they’re doing and so did the floor staff. Everyone was so welcoming and excited to share the wonderful flavours they had on offer. Would highly recommend it to anyone who likes authentic Italian food, or just anyone who likes a good time!
simply amazing gnocchi, pizza, dessert and staff. just pure delicious italian food. sangria was good, but not worth it being $15 for a small glass. despite that, wonderful, genuine food and people - one of the best italian places i’ve ever been to.
Was in the area tonight and stumbled across this place. We were lucky enough to get a seat outside which we preferred. The staff greeted us and asked if we want to move inside of a table opens up. We ordered a couple pizzas and a gnocchi. I’m going to say that these might just be the best pizzas in Melbourne. The gnocchi might be too but we just ordered a simple tomato gnocchi and I wouldn’t want to say best gnocchi before trying the porcini gnocchi’s.
I will be back 100% and will make this my new local (even though I live 20 or so minutes away in Oakleigh).

A must try is the air freighted buffalo mozzarella, it is seriously delicious! I’m a big fan of gnocchi so can’t say no to a bowl of gnocchi. The gnocchi is soft and light. Always good service and great friendly staff. A great Italian restaurant and definitely worth a visit!

Tried their delicious woodfired Margherita at the East Malvern Food and Wine Festival. A bit light on the cheese for my liking, but beautifully cooked spotty crust and tasty Napoli base. I'm keen to go to the restaurant and try the rest of the range.
Both the pizza and pasta were well done. Freshly made with quality ingredients. For me, both the pizza and pasta felt denser than needed - due to a combination of the types of cheeses used and dough itself. A commendable effort nonetheless.

We had Di Parma Pizza, Gnocchi Toscano, a couple of glasses of wine, a Tiramisu, Italian Hot Chocolate and a Panna Cotta. All dishes were amazing but we are giving the Pizza and Tiramisu the highest stars this time.

I went to 48h a couple of nights ago for a friends birthday and it was a great experience.
There was four in our group and we started with Antipasto 48h and a focaccia (given to us free of charge due to it being our friends birthday - which was a nice surprise when it was brought out).
For our mains we decided to share two pizzas (Di Parma & Bronte) and two gnocchi’s (Ragu & the special). All were delicious but my favourites were the Di Parma pizza and the special gnocchi.
We were all so full after our mains but still opted to get dessert aswell, and we all enjoyed our choices.
Staff were extremely friendly and helpful and made the experience even more pleasant. The venue itself is small but inviting and loved the decor. The smell when you first walk in the door is amazing.
I would highly recommend visiting 48h and I would return again.

My partner and I went to 48H for our anniversary dinner and it didn’t disappoint! I found this place online searching for places that provide mainly gluten free food of course, or at least a good amount of options for us coeliacs. This place does ALL of their gnocchi with gluten free flour, as they believe it makes the pasta lighter. Boy it was like fluffy pillow clouds floating on my tongue I swear. We both had our gnocchi main with different seafood - mine with prawn, crab and lobster; my partners with prawn, mussels and calamari. The sauce was okay and as my partner is a big eater, we found the pasta portion to be quite small. The real winner here though was the pizza! We ordered a pizza to share as entree which was the ‘Di Parma’ - prosciutto, bocconcini, rocket and parmesan on a gf base. It was TO DIE FOR!!! So delicious and the base was the bomb.com. One of the best pizzas I’ve ever eaten and definitely the best gluten free pizza I’ve eaten (in the 6-months I have been diagnosed coeliac...). Would highly recommend to any fellow coeliacs and really just any other person on the planet.

Got the mozzarella pizza as an entree. It was light and tasty. Good start to the meal. For mains I got the sorrentina and al pesto. They were alright, filling and authentic. Overall, a good experience. Staff are very friendly and accommodating. The atmosphere is nice and romantic. Would come back!

The first bite of Italian pizza. The richness of the tomatoes, the charring of the crust, the light saltiness of the cheese, and the operatic language romancing you, despite its meaning of “here is your change”. Nothing beats pizza in Italy. But 48 Hours comes close. And it sure does taste good.

Very cozy interior. Staff were welcoming and friendly. We had some bread accompanied by a lovely truffle cheese for starters and the di Parma pizza and the 48h pizza for mains and wow, one of the best pizzas we’ve ever had. It was so light but filling at the same time and so flavoursome, the crust was amazing. I have also tried the melted cheese pot (I forget the name on the menu) which was to die for! I would totally recommend this place and definitely try the di Parma.

This gnocchi is phenomenal! Its really hard to find tasty gluten free gnocchi, even my friends who eat wheat flour gnocchi said this was by far the best they had tasted. To top it off, it comes out in a fomaggio roll, delicious! Cant wait to come back.

If you've driven past Malvern Road, you've probably seen this restaurant. On a weeknight, this place was full of locals getting their fix of quality italian fare. If this place is going gangbusters mid-week, that's a good indicator that they are producing good food.
The interior is cosy and warm. Out the back there are some high chairs, and next time I'll be sitting there because I like to be where the action is, seeing the orders fly in and out, delivery drivers waiting for home orders, the chefs and kitchen staff churning out good food at a rapid pace.
We started off with some home made porchetta (served warm) with montasio cheese and fruit mustard. The cheese and fruit mustard were heavenly. I appreciated the housemade porchetta, I would have liked a cold meat alongside to balance the warm. I can imagine having this in Italy with a glass of vino.
The gnocchi is where it gets interesting. Instead of squid ink to make it black, they have opted for a vegetarian option and gone with activated charcoal. This was impressive! The gnocchi was pillowy and soft, held its shape and melted in your tongue. We had the alle vongole, with a sauce that coats the tongue like warm butter. You won't leave dissapointed if you had this.
With their pizza, they pride themselves on making sure their pizza dough rests for 48 hours, hence the name! We had the di parma with mozzarella, proscuitto, buffalo mozzarella, rocket and parmigano. Fresh ingredients, flavours to die for. The buffallo mozzerella - I could eat a whole bucket of it!
Onto dessert... An italian restaurant lives and dies off the reputation of their tiramisu. 48hr does individual tiramisu servings. Overall, a nice balance of coffee, alcohol, mascarpone and chocolate. A great end to a hearty meal.
The wait staff were as attentive to us as they were to the other customers. They had their eye on the ball to ensure people were looked after.
This is authentic Italian fare, with great atmosphere and tasty food. 48h is perfect for a date night, or a group dinner with friends. I'd even consider getting a pizza delivered. Bravo.

We have dined at 48h in the past and have always loved our experience. We decided to host our son's Baptism there for a lunch time event and it was beyond perfect. From our first enquiry, right until the moment we packed up our things and left our event, their customer service was exemplary. Nothing was ever a bother and the flexibility they offered was like nothing you will get elsewhere (I searched and searched!). The food was just sensational. Our guests left with their bellies full and more than satisfied (which can be hard to do with a big Italian family!) and their only complaint would be that they didn't have enough room to eat more food! Thank you Fabio for making our event everything we wanted and more.
This place is awesome, definitely one of my favorite restaurants of all time. i came here shortly after it first opened, back in 2015, and still come back at least once every few weeks! (living north of the city, that definitely says something..!) I love the energy this place has, always such a pleasant experience, and truly feels like you could be sitting with friends in the middle of an Italian village! Mare Nostrum is a must-try, and any of the pizzas. Yum! Wait staff are helpful, friendly and punctual. This place knows what it is about, Definitely recommend.

As Italian I’m really picky when I choose an Italian place to eat with friends.
For me the freshness and quality of the ingredients, the service and the entire experience of going out for dinner and launch has to be perfect otherwise I prefer to stay home and cook.

Probably the best gnocchi I've had. Just melts in you mouth. Parmesan cheese is fresh through the grater. Services was good. Feels like you've gone to a family friends place. authentic food!
Amazing pizza! Gnocchi was good texture - lamb Ragu beautiful large pieces of lamb however, flavour could be improved. Would recommend the pizza

It’s perhaps no surprise that 48h Pizza e Gnocchi Bar has a huge variety of gnocchi and pizza on the menu. In case you’re wondering, 48h is the minimum rising time they’ve set for their pizza dough, which creates a lighter result. There aren’t currently any other types of pasta, but you can choose antipasti, salads, cheese and sweets to add variety to the meal.
Cosy Italian restaurant with a ‘special seating’ in the middle of the restaurant where you can get rather up close and personal with the bartender and pizza chef. As the name suggests, this place is pretty good for their gnocchi and pizza. The ingredients on the dishes were fresh and generous, and the staff was sure to check on you regularly to ensure you’re satisfied.
48h Pizza and Gnocchi Bar has been on our to-visit list for a long while, and we are glad to report that it did not disappoint one bit! The heavenly gnocchi here is definitely one of the best outside of Italty, and the pizzas were spot on too!

Take a step into Italy and indulge yourself (and your tummies) in authentic Italian food of the highest quality. They have an extensive menu including antipasti, salads, pizza, cheeses and dessert however you really can’t go past their specialty... gnocchi. The name comes from their idea that all dough should be left for 48 hours to rise.... yummy!! The matre nostum entree is an absolute must- a pot of melted fantastic cheeses accompanied by freshly baked bread. We enjoyed both the pesto/bocconcini gnocchi and seafood gnocchi- very generous in serving as well as soft, pillowy and melt in your mouth quality. For dessert we ordered the pannatone special which came with nutella cream cheese (to die for) and nutella liquor... right in the pre Christmas spirit with this sweet delicacy. The waiters with their strong italian accents are extremely passionate about their food and ready to suggest their favourites as soon as you ask! We look forward to returning for another taste of Italy where the cheese is flowing, the accents are gorgeous and the food is fantastic!
