Attended a work Xmas function here. We had an evening out enjoying a fantastic entree of Thai finger food followed by all of us cooking our own Pad Thai noodles.
It was great fun and having the restaurant as private dining area was fantastic too.
Great location in South Wharf. Nice decor and sitting areas. Food is decent and staff are friendly. Good place after work or Sunday afternoon drinks.
Chicken, pork and chorizo paella. Peppercorn steak and salad. Parmesen cheese, garlic butter on corn cob. Flavourful and tasty food :)
Ordered a few dishes for dinner and they were very filling!
Best Cannelloni I've ever had! There's something about the white sauce that hits the spot. Almost like a stronger flavoured cheese added to the mixture. Perfect!
Desserts were brilliant! Well balanced with the right amounts of sweet and crunch.
Prawn sliders were a bit bland and boring. Nothing special happening there and the fried chicken was nice, but again, nothing spectacular.
I'm surprised I'd never been here before. My old-work's head office was nearby and I sometimes would wander the area in search for a (decent) place to eat. For a (quick) work lunch for just yourself it is a bit hard though I think, as most of dishes seem to be designed to share. The venue is nice enough though I think this place would be best at night, with some company and some time to sip a nice wine whilst you indulge on various dishes to share. I nonetheless had to try it before I finished working in the area so I came in here on my last week.
The service was casual and friendly. I ordered the Kangaroo fillet from their specials menu which took a bit longer that I would've expected (my guess is that all the "mise en place" had been packed away which would make sense as it seemed like a very slow lunch day) but the dish itself was nicely prepared, cooked medium-rare without asking, the onion jam was actually very tasty and delicious, the golden beetroot pure was nice too and well, the burnt butter and sage, well, it was burnt butter and sage... you know how delicious that is! Overall it was a nice dish. It needed a side though. Perhaps that was my own failing in not realizing I'd need to order something else. I was more after a light lunch so it worked out for the best though. Based on that one dish I would recommend it.
I enjoyed my lunch here at the Bohemain Wine Bar. They had a very interesting place with a lot of posters.
The food was very good even after ordering it in a special way! The food didn’t take very long to come.
I have celiac disease and as we told them they replied that was not a problem. They made very good gluten free food!!! The owner came and double checked which was very nice!
Good food, good service, nice place!!!
Went here for a degustation with drinks pairings on new years eve. Food was divine, a standout being the steak tartare and snapper. Drinks were perfectly suited and the wait staff were attentive and wonderful. Very nice intimate and 1940s parisian vibe to the place. Just lovely.

It's windy out here and as a city that's in winter half the year I'd expected it to be empty during winter. It's great on warm days though. We were in the area just a week or two ago. Dinner at Bohemia, South Wharf. It's packed at the beer bar and common man tonight filled with delegates/people from the conference next door. A convention for chemists, bio, advanced and novel. I have no idea what these things are...
The atmosphere of Bohemian Bar is great and I love the tall ceilings and cosy booths. I was very much looking forward to the seafood paella, though the dish had an overpowering fishiness to it and the rice was dry. The beef short ribs was a pleasant surprise though, because the combination of salty and sweet flavour was excellent! Nothing much to shout about for the entrees (yawn) and I advise not to get the traditional sangria because there was barely any alcohol in it! Only juice and sugary drinks to be tasted... service was friendly enough, though the dishes were a hit and miss.
Delicious food. Great presentation. Wonderful customer service. Loved the mushrooms and sauce. The pumpkin puree made a great addition to the cannelloni.
Other than the Paella being small and ok nice, it has to be a point taken off for. How can a Spanish place serve such small paella??? It's a surprise I guess they want you to have. The service is excellent as the waiter already warned us that it will take long for the food to arrive, which caught my surprise too, but the paella came out really fast, just the other side dish and my antipasto (starter but made to main meal for me) came out after the paella was almost finished. Well, I loved what i ordered except the paella. You must try their fried broccolini. Will I go back? For dinner I will give a last try.
DO: The Paella on the back page. Must do this and order it first as it takes the longest.
DON'T: Forget about the croquettes, beef carpaccio, scallops and potatas bravas (spelling?).
TIP: If not too cold, sit outside. The Fitout and exterior is oh so instagrammable.
A nice spot with really lovely vibe! All the foods are great, especially the chorizo. Service is great too. A jazz band started from 2pm so we spent near a whole afternoon here with nice drink and music. Might come back to check the different dinner mean.
Absolutely love coming here for the paella and sangria. Chicken and chorizo or the seafood. White or red, all taste divine! Service is always 10/10 too!
Amazing, fresh food and friendly service. Went during the week for lunch. Will definitely be back. Polenta chips are to die for! Dips and bread were fresh and tasty.
Sit outside in the winter sun! It's lovely catching some rays in the breeze.
We chose this place to have lunch as we were heading to the DFO and it was the highest rated place amongst all the eateries in the area. It was a good choice, they had a lunch menu which came with a complimentary drink as well (including wine!) so that was a huge plus.
The atmosphere was great and the guys were nice. We got the polenta chips for entree which was divine, it set a high bar for the place.
Until the mains came... Or didn't come. It took 50mins rather than the promised 15-20. It was very disappointing actually, it could've been a perfect meal, but the wait was too much. We weren't even being updated on any progress which wasn't great as well. When the food finally came (the beef with mash and the gnocchi, both which were average - at least maybe the wait ruined the food) we wolfed it down in five minutes and left.
Would I return? Probably not, I'll give the others in the area a go.
Definitely lucky to stumble upon this Spanish delight. The ambience of the restaurant was wonderful, candle lit, not too crowded. The staff looking after us was friendly and happy to recommend tapa and main combinations. We ordered three tapas (croquetas, patatas bravas & meatballs) and a main (home made gnocchi) to share. The croquetas are different daily - we had chicken and béchamel sauce, absolutely delicious! The gnocchi itself was melting, paired with a tomato base Napoli sauce (which was slightly too acidic for my own liking). Will have to wander down South Wharf again to try some of their other dishes.
Just popped in for a drink. Great live music, good ambience. The menu looked sensation, as did the dishes arriving on surrounding tables. Will definitely have a Neal here soon.
we were welcomed by a funny staff who gave us a big wave which i gave him a big wave back.
we went there sunday afternoon so we had their sangria promo. that sangria is so good that we were planning to order another jug but couldn't be bother because we ordered 2 paella.
both their chicken and pork paella and squid ink paella were so good. but i personally enjoyed the squid ink one because it has seafood.
i would love to go back in this restaurant and have their paella again! 👏🏽
While writing this review I am actually running a risk. Risk of my wife reading this and then finding a motivation for me to convince next time for going shopping with her !!
Well this cafe just outsider out of DFO south warff is just like stepping into another dimension post the hustle and bustle of shopping. Great outdoor decor, friendly staff and food to die for. Tried almost everything in their small plates, chorizo to croquets to prawns and olives. FANTASTIC. And that's not the end. Don't leave until you have tried their deconstructed Cheese Cake. Probably the best desert I've had my whole life !! Need I say more ....
Spanish restaurant in Southwharf. Great location. Restaurant decor was quite nice. Food which I had was not bad at all. Full of flavour. There was a slight confusion when meal was delivered, but they got to it in no time at all. So it's all good
A great choice in South Wharf. Lovely ambience especially if you are sitting in the booth.
Really nice waitress
The chicken croquette was fantastic. Patatas bravas was also great.
The seafood paella may be improved by using fresher produce.
Details: I think the main thing I love about this place is the decor. It has the cutest Spanish setting inside and outside! Love the look of it. Sat here last night and ordered the meatballs and the mussels. I could have licked the plate! I thought they were fantastic. Tip: next time don't serve us a fork that was drenched in the sauce from the meat balls 😂 (apart from that it was fine haha)
The sangria was delicious as well. It could have used more fruit though!
Service: Very friendly international staff!
Love the atmosphere especially on a gorgeous warm spring afternoon. It is postitioned amongst a number of restaurants just down from the convention centre, so a little but away from the worst of the tourists and bargain shoppers. Service friendly and patatas bravas was delicious. Chorizo a touch too salty for my taste. Would definitely come back to try the paella.
Great food. Went in for lunch and had the pulled pork sandwich and the beef cheek and they were both excellent. The décor is great and the staff were friendly and efficient.
This place had my attention the very first day when I clicked a pic of it's side-wall! Be it the outdoor seating or the inside, it gets full points for its ambience.
What I wished for was that the food would be as good as the ambience, but it misses...slightly!
We had seared chicken and double cooked potatoes, and they both tasted average!
The service is good but a tad slow, but this can also be accounted to the busy lunch time when we reached there!
Yes, there would be a next time for sure, and maybe then I would be able to find a better dish from their interesting menu! :)
We came on Monday evening and were only customers that time. Anyway, all food was nice. We had lychee mojito which was fresh. We also had scallop tapas and pork belly. While, the surprising thing was the reduced cranberry vinegar. It seemed the best that I had ever!
I didn't have high expectations for visiting this place but was seeing a show nearby so we decided to give it a go. I'm not a fan of this area it feels a little isolated and lacks character however I was pleasantly surprised and quite enjoyed the meal. We shared some tapas and it was all tasty, nothing amazing but enjoyable. We paired it with a nice Spanish tempranillo which went well with the slightly heavy and oily food. As I said no standouts but we were happy with our order of croquettes, anchovies with sour dough, chorizo, mussels in white wine and finished off with a cheese platter. The staff were friendly and pleasant and quite a nice atmosphere. It's a nice casual place to relax and dine.
Had lunch here with a friend today and found the food and service to be good. Only comment was the croquettes were far too soft and squishy and the chorizo too oily / chunky also was shocked to see a Spanish Reataurant that lacked Spanish tortilla from its menu!! Maybe also don't blast rock music so loud? I though we were at a Spanish restaurant?
Overall was a nice place and a good mix to the south wharf area.
Gastrology recently explored the South Wharf Promenade on a gastronomic tour of six eateries. It was a delight to visit Melbourne’s oldest but newest riverside neighbourhood. The dining showcased the versatility of the dining precinct through the Progressive Dinner's five-course degustation which took us through the renowned Melbourne restaurants Akachochin, Bohemian, BangPop, Common Man and Meat Market.
Bohemian Bar, found at the end of Southwharf and in excellent company with Munich Brauhaus and Meat Market, a little bit of Spain has come to Melbourne and it’s a great place to be. We were around at the late afternoon time with a little one and the staff were great, we took a big booth on the proviso we would be out by 6.30pm – perfect for us as that’s getting near bed time and gave us plenty of time to get some nice tapas and wine and catch up.
The sangria is so nice! There are 3 different flavours to choose from - traditional, white wine with elderflower and ginger and lime. On Fridays they have Happy Hour until 6pm so a Sangria Jug is $20 - after 6pm the jug is $28. One jug is enough to fill 4 glasses. We chose the ginger and lime sangria. It also had rum in it. It was very refreshing! While we were drinking they also had a band playing which made the atmosphere quite welcoming and entertaining.
I definitely think this spot will be our pick for after work drinks!!
Boho Movida-like menu. Friday nights at South Wharf aren't the crowded affairs of elsewhere in the city. After a successful shopping trip to the nearby DFO, a quick dinner was called for. My sister remembered this place from a work event last year and I'm glad she did - we walked into a table in a half full restaurant.
There's a special each day plus the standard menu that made me think of Movida - although this is a more casual place. We settled on the eggplant cannelloni, seared scallops and the special of squid ink paella. The first two dishes were small but tasty with succulent sauces - we ordered some bread to make sure they didn't go back to the kitchen. The paella was a good version with seafood flavour throughout and good value for $24. Wines are the upsell here. Soft drinks only for us but the citrus crema catalana was a great finish. It's not Movida but a decent place nonetheless.
Service was fast & charming. Bill came to $72 before tip which is pretty good. They do a 4 dish set menu for $45 which would be suitable to diners with more time, and other special events. l reckon it's worth going back for.
Been here a couple of times now and love the venue itself and fantastic tasty tapas. Fairly good value for money and pleasant service. Really nice casual atmosphere, will be back.
Drinks - The perfect spot out front under the heaters. A great drinks list, funky exterior and interior. Food wise ok... Bit fatty.. Patatas Bravas was the best dish - but most importantly the staff were great here and had a great vibe for after work drinks.
Visited for a Mother's Day lunch. $45 menu which provided 3 entrees, a choice of 3 mains (oxtail, paella or barramundi) and 2 desserts. Plenty of food. Good atmosphere. Sangria was really delicious and a good selection of wines. Good set menu with just enough food.
Looked forward to going to South Wharf tonight with my wife for a casual dinner and Bohemian far outweighed our expectations. The service was fantastic, the food we chose was equally fantastic and the place as a whole was warm and relaxed. We may have over done the dessert menu but it was well worth it!
The Swine Squad ventured into Bohemian for a sip after spending most of the afternoon in a neighboring establisment. The Swine loved the live music on this sunny Sunday arvo. This place was pumping. The meals here are very well presented and reek of quality. Staff are very friendly and prices while on the high side were still reasonable. The Swine will be back to delve deeper into the menu. Impressive to say the least. Cool place.
Last night I took my friends to this place. The venue and staff were warm and inviting. The tapas were on point, the melted Brie was beautiful. The mains were the perfect size and although the pork in the dish I ordered was a bit dry, overall, everyone was very happy with their meals. The best dessert by far was the chocolate donut balls which were amazing, the garnishes went with the chocolate flavours perfectly. All up a very enjoyable experience.
I came here for the chicken and chorizo paella and it was quite flavorsome. It was a big portion and cooked nicely. The service was spot on and the person who looked after us was friendly. Other staff came over frequently to top up our bottles of water and drinks without being asked which was nice. The Bohemian is quite spacious so it's a good place to go to if you have a party or a work meal and you need to find a place that seats a lot of people. If you do so you either go with a set meal or pre book your meal. We probably waited for about 25 minutes before our food came out.
Value for money Spanish weekday lunch menu w drinks, had their chicken/chorizo paella which was not bad (still think Paella at Richmond Oysters is the best). Bohemian bar is perfect for afternoon tea after whole day shopping at the DFO... Love their chocolate donut and tapas, generous serving of grilled optopus! Service can be little slow but definitely a great place to chill w friends.
Really, really delicious food. We ordered several tapas dishes to share, and enjoyed each of them very much. The only negative thing I have to say about the food is that the pork belly we ordered was really greasy - so greasy that oil was dripping down from the cone that was holding them. Otherwise everything tasted fantastic. The waiters were very friendly and attentive as well. It's a great place for casual dining.
Really nice atmosphere. Friendly and helpful staff. Good lunch menu, reasonably priced with drink included. Would revisit. Good choice of tapas.
Wasn't the best Spanish food, had seafood paella and the rice was very soggy. Everything was in very small portions. Stayed for dessert, Spanish Creme burlee was enjoyable!
Service was great however the order for meals served was different.
Delicious tapas as always and generous main portions. 2 of us had the blue swimmer crab paella that could've fed 3-4 people, so sadly we have to return another day for dessert! Very quiet on a Sunday night so more ambiance on a Fri/Sat night.
Often come here for their paella special (paella of choice or several other dishes and a glass of house wine) and have never been disappointed with the dish
Service can be a bit slow from time to time, but the food well and truly makes up for it.
Lovely food, well furnished location for a relaxed lunch, but indifferent service. Would return but would like someone to at least look like their happy to have a job.
Very clean, modern and hip restaurant. Really great tapas options, lots of options for gluten intolerance also. Pork belly & croquettas are just delicious! Will definitely be back very soon.
This place has become quite a regular spot for us. Always amazing service with friendly attentive staff offering their opinion on matching wines and specials we must try. We've been going here at least once a month.
One of my favourites
Guys why'd you take the crispy Pork Belly (that came in the cone) off the Menu? I went there last night just on that alone and was let down. Meal was still good, but it could've been great.
The mulled wine sign brought us in and the tapas will bring us back! Great service, live jazz, delicious mulled wine on a winters night and some great tapas. A very happy Friday! Gary Grogan
I'll start with I'll def give it another chance.
Walked in sat down the waiter didn't tell us about what the specials for the night were nor did she offer the correct menu for the night. It was happy hour and again unless we didn't read the signs wouldn't have been told.
Anyway we were there to eat!
Dined on the $25 Paella night which I must say tasted amazing. Great rich flavours with a good amount of seafood. We did order 2 specifically said 'not the pork one' and yup they delivered the pork one. Any way they asked is we wanted another but we declined because we didn't want the wait. The waiter did compensate with the entree prawns which is a must! Best prawns ice had. And the lamb cutlets which were just average. I'll also point out they didn't charge me for the entrees.
I'm sure met time my rating will be much higher, but I do recommend it.
Went to the place for lunch . Had the seafood paella which was very nice. Had mussels and prawns on it . The mussels were absolute yum cooked to perfection . Nice ambience and music . The host was very helpful and accommodating.

I've been passed this restaurant a number of months ago but today I finally got around to actually having lunch inside. I ordered the Grilled Lamb Cutlets with rosemary, roast potatoes & mojo. Well let me tell you all, I was very, very impressed - the cutlets & roast potatoes were cooked to perfection - absolutely awesome flavours with the mojo really setting it apart (in Cuban cooking the word mojo applies to any sauce that is made with garlic, olive oil, and a citrus juice, traditionally bitter orange juice) and for $19 it was a steal. Staff were switched on & friendly, the restaurant had walnut tables, chairs & window frames and feeling of yester year. It also had a great ambiance with up-beat background music, overall a fantastic meal that I'm looking forward to repeating in due course.
The Juror's Verdict: Food 5/5, Service Provision 5/5, Will I return: Yes, highly recommend

Lovely place. Excellent food. Only downside was ordered the blue summer swimmer paella and was confronted with a whole crab with uncracked shells. We were happy to get stuck in and crack the shells best we could, but don't know about how others would fare.
On the recommendation of a girl who knows good food, my bestie and I found ourselves here on a cold blustery Saturday night during our annual girlie weekend. We had met up with an old friend for a drink at Y&J and not really knowing what we felt like for dinner, asked her if she had been anywhere good recently. She had indeed just spent the afternoon at The Bohemian drinking sangria and said we were mad if we didn't give it a try. So we put her on her tram off to a party and we headed to South Wharf.
I had never ventured that "far south" from the city before, but it was a really pleasant stroll along the Yarra. I was slightly concerned that we might get all the way down there and find no room for us, but my fear wasn't met and we arrived to a half full restaurant and given a lovely big banquette style table.
First up we got a jug of that raved-about sangria and well ... wow ... I rave about the sangria at Ole in Brisbane as it is amahhhzing ... but this was even better ... by a long shot. So do it - we went for the traditional red! Then it was trying to decide what tapas to share from a tempting and interesting sounding menu. In the end we decided on the crumbed brie, pork belly, patatas aioli and croquettas. We did ask the waitress if this would be enough and she said if we needed to order more that wouldn't be a problem.
Well it was the perfect amount - we felt perfectly satisfied without feeling like we would roll out of the place and into the river. The ambience was lovely, the service was delightful and ohhhh that sangria. This is definately on my return list when I move south next year - I somehow see many an evening here enjoying yummy morsels washed down with that sangria.
Relaxed environment, great location, beautiful Melbourne afternoon and delicious food. What more could you ask for? Shared tapas plate was nice but nothing memorable. Meatballs were heavenly but could have used a bit more toasted bread for dipping into that gorgeous sauce!
Amazing tapas!!! Great, friendly service. Loved the crochets.
Quality food quality wine and quality service. Can't get much better. Cheers
The Bohemian is an underrated restaurant serving a range of Spanish influenced tapas. I have a soft spot for anything Potato, but the Potato Cubes with soft poached gooey quail egg and scattered truffle was a definitive winner.
