I really like this place! It's cute and local. Staff are nice and food is really yummy.
I’ve been here a few times for small items, but finally got to try their full breakfast menu! First the owner is great, he loves his food and as a Greek anything with a Mediterranean twist is amazing! We got to try so many dishes, baked eggs which has halloumi!! Latin American eggs, very tasty and liked it with the avo! But can we talk about the pulled pork burger, anything served with a pickle you know it’s gonna be good and damn was this good! The Greek Knock Out dish which is a good choice and full of flavour! Recommend this place!

Gas Eatery has been a favourite among locals in South Melbourne for many years, and it's easy to see why. Once you walk in you're warmly greeted by all the staffs, and the cosy and relaxed atmosphere makes it the perfect spot for you to unwind.
The cold weather has me craving comfort food, and the salted caramel and banana porridge at Gas hit the spot. Wonderful consistency, and the sweet and salty caramel lent a beautiful flavour to the otherwise boring porridge. Generous chunks of banana and handful of flaked almonds gave this dish different layers of texture and taste.
My partner's order of the Mediterranean Madness was a hearty and filling meal. This was definitely his type of comfort food. The lamb and mint sausage was not just juicy and meaty, but also strongly flavoured. The feta cheese balanced out the richness of the sausage and the bacon, as did the baked beans and chutney.
Our coffees were quite enjoyable too, and we would not hesitate to be back for more.
One of my favourite places in South Melbourne to grab a good coffee. The other day I had the French toast and it was delicious but bit disappointed that it didn’t come with fruit and you had to pay extra for syrup and caramelised bananas.
This place is great. Interesting and diverse menu with consistently good coffee and friendly staff make is a great choice for a recovery after South Melbourne Market.

Friendly and attentive service, great food. Had the Latin American scrambled eggs and was given a huge portion of scrambled eggs and cheese, have never had scrambled eggs so good before, or had harissa with them and was very pleasantly surprised. Will definitely return!
Tried a frittata from the cabinet which was surprisingly nice. My coffee was good too. I don't usually love the pay at the counter then wait system when I'm not dining at a fast food place, but understand that this place gets busy and it's probably more practical. Also very satisfied with my soy flat white.
Have always enjoyed this cafe as a ‘every now and then’ experience but lately have been frequenting Gas a few times a week for my local coffee fix. Coffee is amazing (I believe the use single origin as their standard), service lovely and has a wonderful outside seating area (which can now be utilised seeing the sun is out). One of those cafes that are just consistently great.
One of my most visited places in South Melbourne whenever I feel like a proper brunch. Normally I would go for their Mediterranean eggs but today I went for their Latin American scrambled eggs. It was just as good. The Turkish bread was perfect, crispy, fluffy, and yummy once you spread the butter. I did need to pour a bit of a salt to help bring the scrambled eggs into flavour though. Their coffee was also pretty good.
We arrived at GAS quite late in the afternoon when there were fewer menu options on offer, but what they put together for us was delicious - pulled pork croquettes, fresh salsa and a big healthy salad from the display cabinet. Good experience considering it was so close to closing time.
Lovely Middle Eastern-influenced cuisine; lots of meat 🍖/mezzo/flatbread/grain salad selections, portion was very generous, outdoor seating available - great for when the sun's out.
Had the croque madam. Gave me energy for the entire day! Very tasty i recommend. Good long black. Service is decent. Great atmosphere. Will come back.
Friendly staff that make an effort to get to know you 👌
Fabulous coffee 👌
Delicious food 👌
Hard to get a table as it is mostly communal benches.

Bircher muesli was delicious! The portion was huge. Amazing coffee but wasn't hot enough. Would definitely come back again!
Beautiful place. Nice environment and friendly people. The food is well elaborated and chefs are awesome.
I really recommend this caffe. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Gas offers a delicious combination of menu and pre made/ready to go food! We love the avo smash, cheese toast and Bircher muesli here. The juices and coffees are great too!
Cravings. Latin scrambled eggs went down a treat (anything with Dench bread usually does). I loved everything about the menu which included salted caramel banana porridge (drool) and they even sell take home dinners. Working in South Melbourne they are probably my favourite breakfast spot in the area and there are a lot of well known celebrated spots nearby
Gas eatery is Turkish and greek influenced breakfast and lunch cuisine. There is long table seating with a few bar style window seating options. The turnaround is quick so don't expect waits. The kitchen is very open. You could walk through it on the way to the ladies.
There is a chalkboard full of lunch specials that the eatery rotates through such as spanakopita and a range of pies.
The breakfast menu is massive with superfood bowls, large brekafst items like the Mediterranean madness, toasties, avo toast. You can also get a range of add ons.
For drinks, you have the usual coffees, but gas eatery also has range of tempting fresh juices and cocktails.
My friend and i decided to go for the Mediterranean madness and the paleo chia seed superbowl. I also for a dirty chai and she got a latte with almond milk.
My dirty chai was frothy, had rhe right hint of spice and delicious cremate espresso kick. The drink cost 5.20 however so quite pricey. My friend enjoyed her coffee and ordered two.
We asked for share plates and they were provided prior to our meals arriving.
The Mediterranean madness comes with two lamb sausages, a fried egg, bacon rashers, baked beans in a tomato sauce, feta and a very tiny slice of Turkish toast.
The beans are well spiced and the addition or chargrileld lemon juice complements it. The lamb sausaGes sre well flavoured with a slight sweetness to them. I doused my meal with this green chilli sauce which had me sweating within seconds. The feta helped soothe the pain. The egg is just fried egg. Nothing spesh. And the Turkish toast is not the best.
The paleo chia superbowl was definitely a winner. Eith got it eith a side of granola. It comes with fresh mango, apple slices blackberries blueberries andd raspberries that are atop a massive chia seed pudding cooked in coconut milk. Very refreshing and filling. The granola on the side adds the needed sweetness to the meal.
We were promptly provided a new set of cutlery and share plates for our sweet brekky.
There were two patrons next to me that were having their meals and studying. There were two large groups having brekky. Doesn't get noisy. So a good place to catch up with friends or spend some alone time catching up on work or reading. Definitely worth more visits.
Expensive Delicious Habit.

A great place to refuel with food and coffee in sunny South Melbourne. Friendly staff and quality food. Some cool shops near by for a bit of a post-meal wander!
Menu is impressive and the food (roasted granola and caramel porridge) were really tasty and very filling however whilst the waitresses were friendly, they weren't very attentive. We met clients here for coffee and only once in the 90mins that we were there were we approached and offered service. Coffee was okay. We were here on a Friday and was told the menu only ran until 12pm.
Gas used to be really busy in the past when Chez dre didn't exist just yet. However, the quality of gas is still there for coffee and food. I love the home made chutney that accompany my schnitzel and the coffee is particularly good. The food is gourmet and it tastes good. I love being here.
One of my favs in South Melbourne!
Use Gas Eatery for work catering and it just doesn't get much yummier than this!
Personal Favourite: The Chicken Sandwiches. May seem like a plain-jane option but it is far from that!
Get on down for some of South Melbourne's best!
I love Gas. It's a local breakfast spot for me. The Middle Eastern Eggs is a signature dish and one of my favourites. Check it out on the menu above. I also use Gas for when I am entertaining at home. They have a great range of Middle Eastern inspired meals that you can takeaway and reheat at...
Favourite place for breakfast lately! Reasonably priced, fast service and generous serves. My top dish is the breakfast salad bowl, so much goodness!
Excellent ambiance food store and cafe. It's incredibly busy though so try not to hit the peak hours. Our food from the brunch menu was tasty and we received good service while sitting outside.
Lovely little place to eat - you might want to hurry if you'd like to enjoy their wide range of lunch options - I arrived at 2pm today to find most of their display cabinets empty. Nonetheless, I quite enjoyed my green salad, chicken and mushroom pie and the sweet potato fritters. The medium sized salad is quite a generous portion and perfect for a summer brunch, and the chicken pie was light on the palate as well. Friendly service and good food, this place is a must-do while in South Melbourne!
Excellent place for brunching close to the South Melbourne markets along Coventry street nestled amongst a row of excellent arts and homewares shops
Middle easter vibes from the display. A great range of food items on offer with excellent coffee
Finish with a stroll to the markets
This is still my favourite brunch place. It is convenient and not too busy with very good Middle eastern eggs! Love the coffee still. Great place!
Here's my tip for non locals: if you expect great service here on a busy Saturday just because you're sitting outside, then think again. This place is always busy and that's because the food is great, so be prepared to wait a while. Order at the counter as they always have great food at the counter and its always something different. You'll be out of there in no time, take your food and go down the road and eat it is no room inside. It's worth it.
In the 3 years I've been going there, I only didn't wait for a table once on a Saturday and even then it was a stool at the bench inside. During the week however it's a different story. The food can be quite pricey but it's never disappointed.
Nice little place on the strip.
Coffees were good and food was fine. The toastie was open faced, did I miss that on the menu? I hate thinking I'm getting a sandwich and end up having to use knife and fork. Is that weird/OCD? Fruit toast comes in super thick slices with variety of jam/butter. There case held a variety of tasty dishes so I could easily stop by here again.

Had breakfast here this morning and it was the best start to my day. Ate the Jalapeño Scrambled eggs with bacon and spinach, served with Turkish bread. Words cannot describe how perfectly balanced the flavours were. It LITERALLY was the BEST scrambled eggs I've eaten till date. And trust me, I know my scrambled eggs. That said, the menu is so vast and diverse, I can't help but visit it tomorrow again for breakfast. What a great place for a weekend breakfast.
I love the food at Gas, it is flavoursome and well-priced. However, their service is letting it down. Much as I appreciate that staff change and training them takes time, today was spectacularly bad. We sat at our table for over 20 minutes without one staff member venturing out to the outside tables. It wasn't full. This meant 20 mins of swiping at pigeons who were madly feeding on a vacated table. When a waiter finally came out and we asked if we could order, she got flapped. Short version is that we got tzatziki and water all over bags and me. Mistakes happen. When we asked the next waiter who appeared for a napkin to try and clean ourselves up, she reappeared with a kitchen cloth and wanted to clean the tables and seemed not to realise that we really DID want to get ourselves cleaned up.
Not a nice time, we left. Pity as service was, once upon a time, and excellent.
french toast with salted caramel and grilled banana. whilst not the best presentation, this french toast is packed full of sweet goodness. the bread was egged and grilled just perfectly – soft and buttery on the inside – dusted with cinnamon sugar and topped with salted caramel and grilled banana.

Not too far from the South Melbourne market was this little cafe. It was very stuffy inside, so we sat outside. Before we even sat down the waitress asked what coffees we wanted, there were 5 of us and the tables were set for 4 people, she would not let us sit down before she took our orders.
The staff were lovely and efficient, in the ten minute time I was waiting for Daisy they offered water and to take my order multiple times and definitely made me feel served. I can’t wait to go back and try something new.
On this particular morning, a work friend and I were just going to grab an energy boosting bite to eat before a three hour meeting. We went to GAS but we were trying to be healthy so we ordered away from our standard roasted muesli with greek yogurt and two serves of rhubarb and instead ordered a similar, seasonal speciality… the mango cheeks with rhubarb, pomegranate and greek yoghurt…
There’s no words to describe how sweet and sugary my toast was (although you can see from the pic above). I’m honestly, cross my heart not lying when I say that I got through about half a dozen mouthfuls before I could feel my teeth whimpering in agony.

So yummy, the lamb gozleme was stunning, a little piece of spicy, rich wonderous with hummus, harissa oil, coriander and pinenuts.
A Coventry Street winner if you are walking past and see a spare seat grab it! Fate is telling you something!! The coffee is amazing ......
Grabbing a much sought after seat in GAS I am enthralled by the choices of tapas, pides, salads and a hearty breakfast menu full of great dishes with a Middle Eastern twist. Coffee - tick tick tick, creamy, rich, dark and takes me to a happy place! I want to try everything on the menu it all sounds good but the tortilla 'spanish omelette with goats cheese, chorizo, fresh herbs, side of bacon, harissa glazed roma tomatoes and Turkish toast' calls to me! However it should have called with a bit of a warning!! Massive!! Must have a big appetite!! It is fantastic but I feel terrible that I can't eat it all!! The tortilla is gorgeous, still a little 'gooey' but with crispy edges it is perfection. The goats cheese is creamy and salty and melts into little pockets in the tortilla and with the tomato chutney it is full of wonderful flavours. The bacon and turkish bread with the tomatoes could make a whole other dish! The Moroccan fried eggs - two fried eggs sprinkled with dukkah served with ..
The full name of this place is Gas Eater and Supplies and the Gas refers to gastronomy as opposed to cooking with gas. Breakfast options are made to order...
Wandering around the cobbled, bustling alleyways of Melbourne, the sandy streets of its leafy beachside suburbs in the south and the charismatic grungy lanes of the north, it was clear to me over Christmas how much my love of food, and my passion for expl
Food not only looks good but tastes delicious! Coffe was very nice and the service was topped up with smiles all the way! We'll definitely be back for some more.

Amazing brunch spot!. The food is presented beautifully, the choices are unique with pairings that dance on the palate!
Fritanga, Mediterranean breakfast and Pastries are delicious:) Coffee and vibe are also great.
Make this your next stop for brunch!
Best breakfast in South Melbourne. This is my favourite breakfast place in South Melbourne. Great selection of really nice vegetarian options. Really good coffee.
Consistent. A consistent high quality breakfast. The coffee is good, the blood orange juice amazing and the service attentive.
I like this place, and have made it a regular.
Have been coming here for years, always good, try the middle eastern eggs.
Overseas visitor. Really enjoyed our lunch. Accommodated my one year old grand-daughter, just couldn't do enough for us. The food was absolutely delicious, very different but oh so tasty. Will definitely be eating there again.
Nice coffee, filling breakfast with favour, 1 Spanish omelette (didn't need the bacon on top with the chorizo) but did need bacon with the Tuscan scrambled eggs, pumpkin and spinach. Would go back, service was good too
Is better than my expectation. The food is fresh and good mix of flavor. We tried their empanadas, chicken schnitzel, tortillas, sausage and middle eastern eggs. I think the food is under rated. But I prefer their coffee can be better. That's the only negative I can think of.
Overall: recommended!!!
Not so good coffee but FABULOUS Gas Pork Bun!!!
Great sausage roll. I went for lunch on a weekday and the place was pumping. Wasn't too hard to find a free spot. I had a sausage roll and it was truly AMAZING! All the food looked pretty good. The staff was nice but super busy. Only downside was the loud argument in the kitchen (!!!) Not a good look if you have an open kitchen. Overall good, will def be back!
Nice place! Food was good but a little pricey. The girl taking orders was very helpful and friendly.

Not too far from the South Melbourne market was this little cafe. It was very stuffy inside, so we decided to sit outside. Before we even sat down the waitress asked what coffees we wanted, come on there were 5 of us and the tables were set for 4, let us sit down first. She just said oh you can pull up the chair so 5 of you can sit down. The middle eastern eggs were nice, but found it a bit salty and they shouldn't be served on a big thick and heavy chopping board. If you can't carry 2 at once, don't!!! This waitress was struggling to carry both chopping boards with the baked eggs on top. She just stood there, if we didn't help her she would probably drop them. She was very rude, did not even say thank you. In fact there were two rude waitresses there, when one was clearing our plates, we helped her as she could not carry 2 chopping boards at the same time, she did not even thank us. When it was time to pay, we walked inside and she just gave us the bill and there was no thank you at all. The two guys who worked there were lovely though. These two ladies need to improve their customer service if they want happy customers. Overall the food was average.
It's been 3 years since my last visit and it's even better than I remember. The chia seed bowl has even more toppings and the shashuka (baked eggs) was just delicious. Bumping up previous review as it's even better than my last visit 3 years ago

The chia seed bowl was delicious. Fresh fruits and the chia pudding was a nice thick consistency.
Generous serving sizes and quite reasonably priced.
Approx 15pp.

🥤 I love the juices here, fresh and delicious.
☕️ Coffees are excellent, roasted to perfection
🗺 The outside area is perfect for the winter and summer. We love coming here for breakfast and watching the market crowds. Great location
I have been coming here for a weekend breakfast for over 3 years now. Food is consistently of a high (& delicious) standard and their fresh juice/smoothie bar is absolutely fantastic. Below pic of of the French Toast w/ Caramlised Banana & the Middle Eastern Eggs. Friendly staff, large indoor tables, smaller tables for outside seating. Highly recommend.
Such friendly service and yummy food. Portions are great. Ham hock minestrone hit the spot and the Mexican chicken and corn fritters with accompanying avocado and tomato was yummy!!
Best Spanish scrambled eggs I've ever had. Would recommend to anyone who loves eggs. Definitely coming back
Latin American scrambled. A little underwhelming in flavour, but I appreciated it’s lightness. Nice coffee.
Interesting menu and great value for money. Coffee is so so but food is great
