Coffee is ok here. Just got a quick takeaway of my flatwhite coffee. Strong coffee taste and smooth. Will come again to try a mocha or hot chocolate and perhaps a croissant :)
Good place to grab a coffee when visiting south melbourne market
I love the coffee here - it is aromatic and smooth and the service is always so friendly even though the line is usually long.

Padre is a very popular coffee shop in south melbourne market. We always get our coffee fixed here. They are good coffee! As they are so popular so you have to wait for a bit to get your coffee
A definite destination when in South Melbourne market, this corner boutique café is always packed during the weekend. Get your cash ready as they have surcharge for all types of cards payment.
Probably the busiest coffee spot in the middle of the South Melbourne market. The queues can be long, but the coffee is worth the wait. There are a few spots to sit, but it's mostly a takeaway trade here. I like that they also have complementary water while you wait.
Service is really good. The baristas work overtime to make sure the wait isn't too long, and the coffee standard is still excellent. They also stock delicious pastries which are great with the coffee. Overall, Padre make a great coffee to keep busy market patrons happy.
Soy latte to go. Way too busy waiting time abt 20min 😂 good coffee. Haven’t got the chance to sit down and try food there
Nice and comfy place in the market and they even offer sparkling water!!! The only thing that is not so perfect is they don’t use oatley (brand) oatmilk!!!! That is the barista version and is so much better than any other oat milk!!
Plz consider!
Great place for a perfect quick coffee in the middle of south Melbourne market. Staff are friendly and attentive even when they are busy (ive never seen it quiet!). We take take friends and family here when visiting the markets and it doesn’t disappoint.
Hidden in one of South Melbourne Market laneways, Padre Coffee made really great coffee and had a selection of beautiful-looking pastries and muffins on display. Their staff was always so friendly as well. It was definitely one of my favourite coffee places in South Melbourne.
This is a busy coffee spot in the South Melbourne Market. There is usually a queue so prepare to wait around 10min for coffee. But it is worth it as the coffee is really nice and I loved my cold brew. Lovely staff as well!
Great smooth lattes with efficient and friendly service despite the lengthy queues. Everyone working here seemed so chilled out which is lovely as some really busy cafes can be a little chaotic.
Will happily return here for coffee when at the markets.
Tip: Ask them to stir a little more (or DIY) if you have sugar with your coffee as sometimes it sits at the bottom of the cup.
Best coffee in South Melbourne. It was perfect temperature and smooth. It always busy but they are quick with service. Worth going when in the area.

Smack In south melbourne market, this coffee place is quite popular even tho it was early in the morning. Had the hot flat white which was delicious. My Husband that that it was too weak for him but I thought it was just right - and despite it being milky - the coffee taste tells me that it was roasted very well
Delectable strong coffee.. goes very well with Agathes patisserie croissants.. the coffees here are very flavoursome, the beans give the coffees a good punch and there is a sweet after taste.. you also get free refills of sparkling water..
Beautifully designed and well laid-out cafe, with modern espresso machines, display cakes and coffee paraphernalia on sale. It's bright and well lit.
My small strong latte is $4.50, so they do charge for the extra shot.
It's exceptionally velvety, smooth with a lot of milk chocolate notes. Delicious!
Located at the South Bank Market, this cafe presented really good coffee and they also have very friendly staff. I liked the cake as well, a wonderful brunch and coffee time overall 😀 will surely come back when I visit Melbourne again.
Beautiful little coffee shop, even though it is jam packed they have a number of baristas on board & run the shop extremely well.
Coffee is delicious.
Good spot in the lovely markets.
The home of coffee ...
At least in this part of the world anyway .... bright, clinically presented staffed by smart looking eager to please, well dressed team of staff, and not much tattoos on show ... why is that?
They pride themselves in their coffee, two smart looking Slayers on the job, efficiently operated catering to a herd of caffeine addicts patiently waiting in line for their fix.
One of the two cafes that we go, when we are here ... just the right surrounding and never disappointed, keep up the great work guys. JT-08/07/2018.
Gotta love good ol’ Padre. It’s a must when you’re in South Melbourne Market. Here is where I saw for the first time barista using gloves. It’s a proof of how intense and serious they are about coffee making 😋
My favourite place to for coffee in South Melbourne Market. They can get really busy on the weekends and the wait time can stretch a little bit. But it’s definitely worth the wait!
My go to place for coffee at south melbourne market.
They have 3 different sizes coffee. Small medium large.
The place is always busy.
They also have some cakes and croissants for you to enjoy your coffee with.
Be sure to try, and if you like it, you can get the beans to go.
This places stands out, even in the bustling South Melbourne Market. Stopped by to get a regular Mocha. Best mocha I’ve had so far in Melbourne. And the best thing is that it wasn’t too hot, so I could take big gulps instead of cautious little sips. And might I add, the staff are all so nice and good-looking! Very pleasant experience.
Padre coffee in South Melbourne market. Very busy coffee with gourmet coffee and drinks. Highly recommended for a quick bite and tasty coffee must try
Located south Melbourne market , the customer service is good , and the coffee roaster bean is great , ordered the iced long black really tasty and refreshing. Thumbs up
First morning in Melbourne and first place you come across for a coffee trial (but you want a good coffee for starter), with a queue at the front you say why not! Never heard the brand before, it was risky, but hey!, it is Melbourne and it will be at least little over of my average, decent findings elsewhere. This was the case with Padre, maybe even better as it was really a good coffee with a kick that I need! It was a pleasing, happy start and find for the starter!
Busy little coffee corner in South Melbourne market. As their other outlets, coffee is great and the lattes are on point - creamy, hot and strong. Love the vibes where people share a large wooden table sipping coffee and reading newspaper.
Love the coffee here. Full of aroma and light at the same time. Love the ambience to sit and people watching inside the famous South Melbourne Market.
Best coffee in Melbourne. I'm lucky to live close to the south Melbourne market and it's my regular for a weekend coffee. Would highly recommend
They made me fell in love with skinny flat white once, today i tried their batch brew and it was yum! They made a fresh batch because the previous one was luke warm and asked me to wait. Service was very kind and helpful despite the crowd
Always insist on dropping into this place when in the area- for those that have a real appreciation for coffee, this is the place to visit. Service is excellent.
Coffee was amazing one of the very best in melbourne that’s for sure ! Might have to experience the Hustle bustle , queue during the weekend as many people get their coffee fix there
Smooth tasting latte. Up to par with the other Melbourne coffee houses. Very good, but nothing exceptional. There seems to be lots of people standing in the queue.
The service was ace here! The guy on till was knowledgeable and straight off knew the single origin and batches without missing a beat. The temperature was spot on and although the extraction had a slight bitterness it was pretty well balanced
Cheers guys!
Consistently good coffee hence why it's always a go-to pit stop for market goers. A little bit aggravating on the weekend if you need to queue during the hustle and bustle of the weekend market crowd but what can you do when everyone wants a good cup of coffee!
Best place for coffee in South Melbourne. I always grab a coffee from here when I go to the market on weekends. It gets a bit busy but the service is quite fast.
Consistent and reliable good coffee. Their coffee is always of consistent quality no matter when you come or which barista makes your coffee. That's what I like the most. Personally I hope their coffee to be a little bit stronger.
Still one of the best coffee roasters in Melbourne. Milky with no aftertaste, just the way I like it. Never disappoints. A large coffee is $5 I think. So a bit steeper than CBD prices. Everything in Sth Melbourne Market is so expensive these days
Very busy cafe inside the south Melbourne market.
Coffee here got consistent good quality.
Have egg and bacon tart to pair with my flat white.
Stomach satisfied. 🙂
I had two hours on the clock before I needed to leave for the airport. Sister asked if I wanted to join her for a quick run down to South Melbourne Market. Bad weather didn't help with traffic one bit. It was a risky move, but well worth it. . Brand new fitout!. Like Wonderbao, Padre South Melbourne also opened its doors after a massive refurbishment on the day I was due to leave Melbourne. How lucky was I?!
In the midst of the hustle and bustle of south melb market, after my oysters fix and grabbing my produce, I always come to Padre for my dose of Magik. Is there a classier venue that just specialises in coffee? You'd be hard pressed. Pardon the pun. On point rapid service, single source beans if you want it, perfectly executed coffee and self several sparkling water are all little things that adds up to perfection. Amongst this coffee crazy town, Padre manages to still be a top notch caffeine dealer.
This is the place we come to for coffee when at the markets. It's always busy and the queue can be long but staff are always friendly, kind, efficient and professional. It's worth the wait as the milk is rich and creamy and the coffee well rounded and wonderful.
A coffee haven at the South Melbourne Markets. My gorgeously creamy skim cap was delicious, with notes of caramel and chocolate. None of the sourish, acidic flavours that I encountered everywhere in Melbourne during my visit last year. Lines were a given but they moved fast and are certainly worth the wait. The only gripe I have is the eye watering prices: $4.50 for an 8oz which in most Sydney CBD cafes, is considered a regular size.
Padre has been one of my favourite coffees in Melbourne! staffs are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Particularly loved their seasonal blend, a smooth texture, velvety body and clean finish. The flavor's top-notch. Thumbs up :)
Great coffee in south melbourne market. Service is great and quick. Always queueing but there is no such thing as long waiting period there and it never dissapoint.
Great coffee. But since they are so busy and coffee's made by different baristas, sometimes it lacks the consistency, being too hot, a bit strong etc...
Having said that, it is the best coffee in Melbourne when it is made by the manager (the guy who usually walks around seems to be the manager).
Thumb up to the manager (if he is)
-0.5 to the lack of consistency when the coffee is prepared by different baristas.
It could be personal preference, so if you want a coffee at south Melbourne market, go to Padre Coffee.
I have heard about this coffee as one of the best in Melbourne. As part of the food journey for today, padre coffee lands in for just a nice cup of latte. The latte is smooth and rich in aroma as expected, perfect to end the food journey in South Melbourne Market.
It's been one of my favourite coffee shops for years, the coffee is fantastic and so is the vibe of the south Melbourne markets! Recently I've noticed it's so popular that it's almost impossible to get in, it seems to have affected the quality a little, but still, one of the best coffees in town! 👌🏻
Our pick for coffee at the markets is over at Padre, which delivers the best brew in this area and the staff are friendly to boot. My workmate’s mother swears by the beans from here and if she’s anything like the description I’ve been provided, when it comes to quality she doesn’t shit around. It’s worth picking a cup whilst you’re wading through the crowds.
Grabbed a capp from here when I visited the market on the weekend. I loved it. Went down well with the other treats I bought and I will definitely be going back when I come to the market again. Haven't tried their other locations thought but I'm sure they're just as good!
Ordered a cappuccino but instead of a frothy coffee i got something rather like a latte or FW. Yet the shot was extracted perfectly and it was overall a great coffee.
I tend to visit Padre when I’m doing my South Melbourne Market shop (hot tip: do your shopping first, as juggling vegetables with a coffee in hand like I did last week isn’t easy!). There’s usually a healthy queue on market days which is a sure sign the coffee is good. There’s a nice selection of cakes too if you need a sugar hit. It’s in a spacious area too with seating, which is a nice change to some of the other smaller outlets in the market.
Having a decent blend is a separate matter from preparing it and at Padre they do both very, very well. Medium (looked like typical regular size) cappuccino $4.50. Whaaat? Do I look like I live in Brighton? But hey it was damn good and yes I'd go for it again..
Padre cements their coffee dominance on the South side with this lil' shop in the middle of the South Melbourne Markets.
Offering a similar menu format to their other stores and limiting the food options to keep the focus on their meticulous brew.
Need caffeine?
Come here.
Simple as that.
Good coffee to go with croissants from Agathe! Service was great, my only complaint is that the sitting area is really cramped (but expected at a market).
I tend to visit South Melbourne's market at least a month of so and would visit Agathe Patisserie when I am there. Having passed by Padre coffee a few times, I decided to give it a try as a pick me up. The queue was insane and kudos to the 4 troopers standing behind the counter, manning the shop. I loved my cup of latte - fragrant aroma, right temperature and amount of milk added.
A great alternative if you are put off by the queue at Clement. With a bigger floor space, the queue at Padre gives me less of a headache as not everyone is cramped in a small area waiting for their takeaways or blocking the entrance standing in a queue. Here, Padre serves excellent coffee and offers a selection of yummy pastries, cakes and savoury options to go with your coffee, which is very similar to their operations in Brunswick. Coffee paraphernalia and beans are sold here too. Padre also excels in service, which I notice is prevalent throughout all their cafes. Very helpful staffs who always are happy to teach you a thing or two when you are getting some beans for home.

The place is quite tiny for sitting and meeting friends, but the lovely service, coffee is great and they have the best almond croissant!

Busy caffe, popular coffee. Great place to catch up with people. Check out the pastry counter and make sure you grab one with your coffee.
My second favourite coffee place ! Coffee is different compared to the other cafes in the area. Today I had my usual super smooth latte. Staff were professional at first and started to soften as I became a regular which is nice.
By far my favourite coffee in Melbourne. I grab one ever time I am at the south Melbourne market. Always amazing and always friendly staff. Quite disappointed that today when I got a usual small coffee they have reduced in size from 8oz to 6oz and still $4. I don't mind the price but they are just too tiny now and a large is too big. I would rather pay more for a usual regular small size. The new size is 3 mouthfuls too small. I will however keep going as I love their coffee. I even giggled a little as it was so tiny!

Iced latte the way I like it - and for $5.00! Well it's been awhile since I've paid less than $6.00 for such caffeinated items...
Friendly service that I have come to pleasantly expect from South Melbourne Market.
Had a coffee here and went wow when i tried it the first time.. was kinda above average the next couple of times.. but yea, the coffee is def different from other cafe's.. service is a bit hit and miss though... had a hair in my coffee the first time i went and showed it to the staff who just shrugged... coffee was yum though.. lol..
did takeaways the next couple of times..
DO: The coffee. Undoubtedly the best coffee at South Melbourne Market.
DON'T: Be put off by the lines. Moves relatively quickly.
TIP: Ask a friend to mind a table. Or alternatively sit at the "back". Always plenty of tables there.
Loved the coffee! As we had a heavy breakfast, partner and I decided to just try the coffee when we walked past the stall in the south Melbourne market. It was really crowded so we thought it must be good. And sure enough, the coffee didn't disappoint.
Coffee only spot in the South Melbourne market.
Their coffee is of very high standard and there are throngs of customers and a multitude of staff.
They also gave a nice selection of pastries.
After a late lunch we decided to stroll to South Melbourne Market to try out the coffee at Padre given the high ratings and positive reviews for this place. Padre is actually located inside the market but its location doesn't deter anyone from looking for it! The coffee shop stands out with it's clean and bright modern decor. It's not a big place so lots of people drop by and get take away however there are some small tables and chairs inside and just outside the shop. Staff were very friendly and switched on.
I ordered a latte to have there and it was delicious! It wasn't weak and had just the right amount of bitterness to it making it a solid coffee. It was definitely better than St Ali's down the road which I found was a bit on the weak and milky side. The coffee at Padre also had the perfect temperature to drink straight away. I also love the packaging of the takeaway cups. Will definitely come back for another coffee hit when I'm back in South Melbourne!
Hands down the best coffee in town! Always a great experience at Padre's and never a disappointment from Affogatos down to filters and drips 👍🏽🙌🏽
Very quick friendly service AMAZING COFFEE! delicious choc peanut butter milkshake! Great flavour! Wish we lived closer!
Here for 3 months from Western Australia, and have tried many a coffee from other cafes. Padre clearly wins hands down every time, from the moment you place your order to receiving what I consider the best coffee in town.
Professional staff, always there to make your experience totally enjoyable. Asked the other day what machines they use, and was told "Slayer"….googled them and found out that they are hand crafted in Seattle, and wow they are super expensive.
To the owner congratulations on doing such an amazing job, these guys are coffee professionals!!!
Padre is the light & joy of my Sunday morning market run.
Best coffee in South Melbourne Market, they even give St Ali a run for their money.
Best coffee in South Melbourne Market and the standard of the coffee remains consistently smooth and of high standard. The staff are friendly and they always know where we are seated outside surprisingly!
Top coffee! Chai latte was delicious! Cool selection of cakes too! I wish they were open every day! Padre coffee makes mornings bearable...and the baristas are pretty cute too!
Update: try the muffins!! The raspberry and dark chocolate....wow! Fresh raspberry throughout and indulgent chunks of dark chocolate!!
After a long day of exploring the buzzing South Melbourne Markets, this is the place to end up and relax. Best coffee I've had in a long time. Up there with Brother Baba Budan.
Amazing coffee with amazing bunch of staff. They're all look like they are enjoying their job so much. Definitely will get another cup when I go to South Melbourne market again. Tried their cappuccino yesterday but next time probably gonna try the chai latte!
My regular Sunday coffee place. Please bring back sparkling apple coffee special. And generally make more coffee specials. I know you're busy but it is always exciting to try new coffee drinks. Thanks guys for great work!
great service, always with a smile, and the coffee is excellent! an incredible amount of care is taken with each cup, even though it may be made in a keep cup, there's always latte art on the top too! the sweet treats in the window display never fail to please. :)
One of the busiest places at the South Melbourne Market. Their coffee is worth the wait though. Strong flavours and constant great quality. Small flat white: $3.8
I love their beans now, but I have to admit, my initial impression of Padre was not very favourable. We ordered their Flat White and Magic, and left disappointed. The coffees had a slightly sour taste, like they have left the beans out in the open for too long. But then a few weeks after my first visit, when we found ourselves at South Melbourne Market again. Because Miss XS's friend was with us, we gave Padre another shot . Pun intended. You're welcome. Too easy. This time, we didn't linger around the cafe and just bought the beans. On Miss XS's friend's recommendation, we ordered the same beans as him: the Columbia Inca. I asked mine to be grinded to a Moka pot's consistency, which they obliged. I opened it a few days later to a strong fruity aroma. Yes, I hear that ground coffee beans are best used within 3 minutes of grinding before they lose their flavours. But I'm a coffee novice, and also quite a prolific procrastinator. It's common to hear advice from coffee aficionados that coffee grounds should never be bought in supermarkets, where they would have spent weeks sitting around in transport, storage and on shelves. Instead, they advice coffee drinkers to source their coffee beans from a local roastery, and to use the grounded beans as soon as possible. Up until now, I have relied on Lavazza, Segafredo and Illy ground coffee from supermarkets. Aside from the freshness issue, I find that their grind, which being designed for espresso machines, were much more finely grounded than the grind recommended for moka pots. Using them often left a sludge in the bottom of the pot. So it's with some surprise that I opened Padre's bag to find a much rougher consistency than what I expected. My moka pot hard at work. Burn baby burn. Oh wow. Just... Wo
Coffee is one of the most important parts of my day! It can make or break the happy vibe if the beans aren't good and the barista doesn't deliver with love! Padre is all about the love!
