Review Doughboys Doughnuts & Coffee - Melbourne

Doughboys doughnuts are my absolute fav donut place in Melb! I always stop by heading home from work as their doughnuts have never failed to make my day. They come up with new flavours every now and then and they never disappoint. My favourites are crullers and old fashioned butter flavour. Crullers are super soft and airy on the airy and it’s always very enjoyable. All the other flavours come second (tight tie)… They recently came out with tiramisu and that’s AMAZING!!! The coffee custardy filling is super creamy and not too sweet, complemented well with the slightly sweeter outer coating of the doughnut.

Had a visit to their Brunswick pop up yesterday and bought a box of 6 donuts: Maple Old Fashioned Cookies & Cream Pecan Maple French Toast Vanilla Butter and salt Decent donuts and pretty big for the price. Some flavours were a miss but the Pecan Maple was my favourite with Vanilla as a close second. Texture isn’t consistent through all flavours unfortunately. Good to try at least once

The staff and service were great, but unfortunately the doughnut not so much. It looked great, and there was plenty of filling, but the filling tasted nothing like the advertised flavour. I will probably return to try another flavour. Every doughnut deserves a second chance!

Kind staff but donuts are alright for the price. Maple glaze had too much glaze and was too sweet, the donut base a good texture but not much flavour. Apple cider donut had good texture but had a dry and bland taste which reminded me of cardboard. Wouldn't go out of my way to try again.

Been meaning to try Doughboys for a while! A nice interior and theme, with variety of doughnuts. I ordered the Hazelnut Doughnut which was nicely flavoured, not overly sweet for doughnut standards. I did like the soft chewy texture, but could have been a little fluffier. The price is not bad for a popular doughnut joint.

The doughnuts here are pretty tasty and of course look great. They are quite soft in the centre and are moist (sorry for using that word!). I've tried a couple and the flavours are good. The coffee here is pretty good as well so it's a nice place to stop by to grab a doughnut coffee combo although this will set you back about $10.

Doughboys make quality doughnuts, you might read that they are “pricey” but you get a lot for what you pay for. Their flavours are unique and more artisan than your standard donut king. They remake batches during the day, but if you go too late in the afternoon, you might risk missing your favourite. Doughnuts are delicious and bready, not light and fluffy, made with quality ingredients, the standout was the banoffee pie. They also serve coffee, with outdoor seating, and limited indoor seating.

This place sells very unique and amazing Donut combinations. They do however don't come cheap. The iced coffee drinks are also worth trying

Great place to have donuts. Friendly staff, great variety choices of donuts. Taste is great as well. Coffee is a bit weak for me and cinnamon balls are bit hard.

@doughboysdoughnuts delivering the essentials over Easter straight to our door. These were so good, they were light and I also loved that there weren't that many sultanas in them because im not a big fan of them😂

I’ve heard they have good doughnuts so I decided to visit the shop today. This is what I found in the French Toast donut: an used band aid. This is the worst thing that you could ever find in any dish. I talked to the owner and all that he said was they’re just a small business and it could happen in any kitchens. The donut made me feel disgusted and so did the way the owner responded to this “small” mistake.

Every time even when it’s weekend and not so busy...a take away coffee takes 15 min can you image ... this used to be my favo store around my place and I used to order a lot via Ritual. But not I’m not going that often at all as the ready time takes forever! I mean if it’s one or two time I get it, but happens recently almost every time. They made all the eat in coffee before me. I am not saying I should skip the line but I haven’t got same experience in anywhere else in city. This is the first ever time I’m rating a good cafe for bad reviews bcoz of them efficiency. If I have time to wait 15min for take away, why wouldn’t I just eat in?

My best donut place to go in Melbourne! Flavors, presentations all good. Only thing I don’t like is they are usually closed on Sunday or afternoon 😭 I had to return back many times. (Even my friends told me same) Especially it would be good if they do delivery during coronavirus lockdown. So sad

I guess you probably don’t visit a donut shop for it’s coffee, but’s that’s what I did lol.

It was too early for me to eat a donut at breakfast! What is that possible I hear you say hahaha

... yes!

The service was nice at this cafe, and the coffee was made in reasonable time. The tough part was that it was bleeding hot for some reason!

The coffee flavour was ok, and I couldn’t drink it for a while so I didn’t see much milk froth on my latte.

But I guess that’s not the reason you visit a donut shop for hahaha ... ok ok I get it now!

Another place on my donut list and it was a damn winner! Very nicely set up little cafe style inside with outdoor seating area. The donuts are quite expensive ranging between $5-7.50 but was 100% worth it for me - the lemon cheesecake meringue was absolutely amazing! The banoffee pie & caramel old fashioned were also great! Highly recommend!

Have yet to try the donuts here but the coffees are good. Soy chai latte is tea based and has the aromatic chao leaves. The soy milk is well brewed and presented in a study cup. The interior at this place stands out and a nice place.
Foodietajrin13
They don’t only look great but tastes even better. So far, I have tried 6 of their donuts! Can’t wait to try more.

Great selections of doughnuts and nice ambience.
Very busy when we was there . Tried Hazelnuts doughnut & cinnamon twist doughnuts, was delicious not to sweet . Would recommended

I don't mind doughnuts. Not at all. So strolling past this slick looking joint and of course I get drawn in. The round delights on display easily do that. Went for some classics - cinnamon, cruller - and a bit more adventurous - lemon meringue.

Let's start with the flavour. All good. The slightly tart lemon curd plays well and is balanced by the silky and sweet meringue and the cinnamon sugar dusting is nice.

I'm hoping it was just an off day but the flavours were let down by the carrier of that flavour. Fluffy, light was the dough surrounded by a slightly crisp exterior but each was a bit too moist from what I assume is the oil it's fried in.

Might keep walking by next time.

I'm really not a donut person but when I stepped into this place I was like yes! Went in for a coffee left with a coffee and donut in hand. A great moist donut

Loved the Cinnamon Doughnuts, soft, airy and perfectly balanced sugar, rest doughnuts are too sweet and creamy.
Quick service is a plus. Smartly located in heart of cbd.
It was quite nice experience
I tried twice here first i dont remember what i had second time 'black hole' with iced long black weak(they don't have decaf)

Combination of inside cream was perfect
Good matches sweet choco outside, a bit slatiness inside caramel cream and banana at the central was a dope!

But the things is , could be paradox, unfortunately dough was not enough to moist and fluffy
If that is handled would be perfect
Nicola M
The doughnuts here were presented very well but they were very dry. I had the cookies and cream which was good because of its filling, but the cinnamon was far too dry and tasted like it had been out for a while.
Foood4Dayzzz
Yes, yes, yes. The doughnuts here are sooo good and I just love the original glazed doughnuts. They chop and change their flavours every so often. They are able to come up with great choices time after time.
Willtravelforfood17
We received a few donuts from Doughboys as a gift from a friend. The donuts were fresh and fluffy on the inside and were beautifully presented. They flavours were well-balanced and not overly sweet. These donuts were also substantial and heavy! Great for sharing!
Paul Panapiwat
I'm not sure that I pick the right doughnuts or not. I asked the staff about their recommendation and I just pick one of those. And it was a disappointed one. Bland and dry flour dough. Not pleasant for a second bite at all. Sorry that I have to say that. It doesn't worth a 7$ doughnut. Nice present ation BTW.
Ionathegenie
Seriously good doughnuts.
I didn’t fancy the PB and J as it was quite dense and sweet but I’ve tried most of them and the best is still the cinnamon dusted cruller.
Amazing coffee-they stock Oatly milk!
The Casual Diner
I don’t normally like desserts/pastries that are too sweet. The place definitely have a great range of creative toppings for their donuts. I had the cinnamon donut which was good, but not sure if it is worth the price you pay for them. Overall, impressive range of options means that there is probably a few here that will suit your taste. The donuts were well packed and came well presented and very inviting.
Sweetoothbrunches
When there's a line to get in you know it's good.
Decided to stop by on national doughnut day. Line up of Doughnuts was impressive with the hardest choice being which one to have.

Overall score: 18/25 or ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
in 5 words: good doughnut option in cbd
*
Taste ⭐️⭐️⭐️ - Was spoilt for choice and went for the bestseller - the French toast. Other bestsellers were the maple glaze and chocolate biscuit. What I like about the French toast is how easy it is to finish the doughnut. Some doughnuts can be so sickeningly sweet that it has to be shared. However, was hoping for more crunch on the French toast crumbs.
*
Ambience ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - love the doughnut menu display, which made it easy for customers to pick based on ingredients. The store atmosphere was cosy and relaxed - such a contrast to the city hustle outside.
*
Price ⭐️⭐️⭐️- the doughnuts range between $5.5 and $6.. which are similar to other dessert prices (bubble teas etc.)
*
Presentation ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - the doughnuts looked great, with good choice of colours and flavour combinations.
*
Service ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️- service was friendly.

My favourite doughnut place! Love the special flavours. Best place to go to for some tasty comforting doughnuts for those days when you just crave something sweet AND savoury.

I’ve been here a few times & it’s one of my favourite spots for having fancy donuts.. their coffees were also great.. doughboys change their donuts menu regularly & will display all the available donuts on their display board.. their donuts is tend to be sweeter & definitely a good choice when matched with coffee.. I have once tried their Thai milk tea but did not really like it.. I did however enjoyed the maple glaze - you can’t go wrong with it..
Aussie Nawaab
Hands down the best doughnuts in Melbourne. Absolutely yum ! I tried a few different ones. The mocha and the raspberry ones were heavenly. Will definitely come again when in Town.
Silllyadventures
My favourite doughnut place in Melbourne. More of a bready type donut and not as sweet and oily as others donut places. The flavours here are AMAZING. Personal favourite is the creme brulee. Coffee is good too. Would recommend

Had the cinnamon crunkell (I think that's what it was called) and it was divine!!! Also had the banoffee pie doughnut, I must say it’s my first time having doughnuts with a pretzel-like dough but the taste is still as good!

Got 2 donuts we arrived near the shops closing time. Got maple glaze and banoffee donut. Maple glase was dry as a bone and was like eating a cake. Banoffee i had one bite and the cream tasted off and the donuts taste was unpleasant. I spent $12.00 on donuts that both went into the bin after a couple of bites as they were basically inedible. I would have rather gone to Krispy Kreme, would not recommend.
Jerry Shen
We got the maple and banoffee doughnuts, and it was nothing special. Was very dry and difficult to eat. They looked great but definitely not worth it. They are priced as a gourmet doughnut but with the quality, texture and taste of a supermarket doughnut.
José
Doughnuts are nothing more than OK. I was excited to see them offer a Pandan Doughnut, it was nice but lacked Pandan flavour. The next time I walked in, I noticed they put even less Pandan into the doughnut as the custard in the middle was just yellow as opposed to the expected green pandan colour. Tea is normally brewed to perfection, but got annoyed they would rather waste a paper cup than serve tea in a tea cup after a certain time.

Guess what? here I am drinking tea from a tea cup just around the corner.

Edit: Gave them another go, tried the Macadamia and Orange Doughnut with custard and ordered a tea...best Afternoon Tea I've had all week. DELICIOUS. Service was also very friendly and professional. I guess it's a hit and miss depending on your own tastes and expectations I suppose. Will keep coming back.
MmmFood
Disappointing. We arrived at 2pm to check out this place after a ride through the city. When we got there, majority of the donuts were sold out, although it is expected as it was late in the day. However we ordered an apple cinnamon, hazelnut, lemon cheesecake and after the first couple of bites they were a bit “meh”. Also ordered 2 iced chocolates and a latte, the iced chocolates should not be labelled as such as they’re bitter like cacao, would be good for people who enjoy dark cacao chocolate. The latte was also burnt and the tables had to be cleared by us before sitting down as majority were still littered. Not really worth the hype for us.

Doughnuts were visually appealing. The doughnuts ordered: strawberries and cream & banoffee pie. Doughnuts were large and filling (very carby) and weren’t overly sweet. In terms of sweetness, I thought they were just perfect. These doughnuts however looked a little dehydrated compared to a Krispy Kreme doughnut (maybe it’s because of better much natural ingredients used by Doughboys?) also bitting into them were a little bit dry (again comparing to Krispy Kreme) BUT NOT BAD.

Do I think these doughnuts were worth its price? For experience sure. Would I go back? I think to try other flavours and would try visiting close to opening time.

The cafe could get very busy. Wait time for dine in I would say 5-10 mins on a busy time but I saw takeaways fly past much quicker. My partner and I had to wait 20 mins for dine in 2 doughnuts. The staff forgot about our order. In saying this staff were friendly and considering there was only 2 staff working on a busy day I wouldn’t complain too much.

If you live in Melbourne and you haven't been here, then be quick, run and get your doughnut, & If you are visiting Melbourne, then your trip won't be complete unless you pay a visit to doughboys.
Put it this way, if enjoying doughnuts is a religion, then doughboys is its temple.
Doitforthefood
They have quite a few interesting flavours and all the donuts looked good. My favourite was the lemon cheesecake meringue - the lemon curd was really good! The banoffee pie and brulee was personally too sweet for me and I'd never be able to finish a full donut by myself but they're very generous with fillings. Definitely worth checking out if you're nearby and have a sweet tooth!
Moon Munira Mahmud
Delicious fancy doughnuts! One doughnut per visit is enough because they were generous with the fillings and enough to keep you satisfied. Would totally come here again to try other doughnuts
Eatfoodlikeabossmelbourne
So many delicious trays of doughnuts to choose from, Went later in the afternoon so sadly a few of the flavours were sold out😭Next time will make sure I get in early so I have more of a scrumptious selection!! For my first time at Doughboys though,I tried the French toast flavour which was delicious and filling as the doughnuts at doughboys are Huge!! Love this little shop in the heart of the city.. will be back very soon definitely😍
Tinmans Treats
I love that they bake their donuts on site.
I love that they have a lot of interesting flavours.
I love how soft and chewy their donuts are.
I love the look and feel of the premises.
I didn't love paying $7 for the banoffee donut but it was a very spectacular donut and lots of elements which no doubt pushed up the price.
I love their customer service skills.
I love that i work nearby so i can eat all the flavours.
Scrumptious GG
I'm not a big fan of donuts, but I must admit I love the dusted crueller I had here, it was soft and fluffy and they served great latte too!
The Dear Luncher
They look tremendous. They smell tremendous. The one out of the box Your Dear Luncher sampled was just OK. Half of the icing came off during the eating of the thing. As soon as it was split apart, the icing fell off onto the plate. The dough inside was not what you'd call super soft. It just didn't seem all that fresh. Perhaps this was just one doughnut (bottom left and bottom right in the pics), hard to judge off the back of just one. But for $6 a pop you're hoping it's going to get your rocks off. 2.5/5.
Eat_today_diet_tomorrow
This is my all time favourite donut shop! The decoration and interior is on point! I love how they display their donuts too. So tempting!! I wanna eat them all.

Today I tried the dusted cruller (cinnamon infused choux pastry with sugar rub) omg so gooood! The other day i had the pandan one. Amazing too!

They also have a nice outdoor area perfect for spring time
Kimmy Liew
Love their old fashioned donuts. Have had their donuts since they were back at Queen Victoria Market. A lot has changed (change of pastry team, management etc.). Worth the price cuz they’re huge. However the raised doughsie are sometimes too starchy. Quite inconsistent at times. But still good.
Mashedpotato
Every time we visit Melbourne we go to dough boys as the donuts are great. Today the service was awful and the donut burnt. I ordered a takeaway donut, instead of actually getting the donut and giving it to me. She asked my name, and made we wait while she took the order of the only other person waiting. I asked why she could not grab the donut and she said there was an order before me. Then another staff member, after making a coffee for someone else gave my my donut. I could of been out within 15 seconds, but instead I had to wait. This is poor customer service. When people order takeaway donuts, give them the donuts, do not make them wait, it is not coffee, it does not have to be made, they are all sitting there. Then on eating our donut there was no crumble on top and the donut was black from being burnt from over cooking. Not up to their usual standards.
Benkyousuru
Hands down donuts at doughboys surpasses that of grumpy donuts in Sydney. Many trays of delectable donuts decorate the display case, each donut flavour looked equally as delicious, this made it difficult to decide on which one to get. However, lucky there were five of us, so we shared each donut.
Apple cider – I like my food simple, so this was my favourite one. Plain and simple, airy, cinnamon donut. What more could I ask for?
Brulee – Didn’t regret ordering this, it had a crème patisserie filling and topped with caramelised sugar. Tasty but messy.
Apple pie – Custardy cooked apples fills the centre. Choose this if you like apple pies.
French toast – Doesn’t resemble French toast for me, though it was good.
Maple glaze – This was the worst of the bunch and the greasiest as well. I really didn’t like this one at all.
Each donut had fair amount of consideration and effort to prepare.
Eunifoodie
The doughnut are so so so good here!! I love he lemon meringue and the banoffee donut! Donuts have a little crunch on the outside but soft on the inside - super delicious.
LouLou Loves Food
Absolutely one of the best donut shops in Melbourne. Flavors are creative and so damn tasty. They taste as good as they look. And they look bloody amazing. Flavors are always changing so pop in and see what creations they have.
The Hand That Bites
I love Doughboys and I buy regularly. It's hard to say what my my favourite is though, as they all go well with a coffee. I've picked them up from the store and from Clement in South Melbourne. I think I should go more, but I don't want to turn into a Doughboy!
Wan Ying
Extremely overpriced doughnuts. The one I got was really sweet and dense. The doughnut was more of a doughnut-shaped cookies. Up your doughnut game!
Meatlover
The dough is a lot more dense compared to other gourmet doughnut shops in Melbourne. They come in at the more expensive end at around $6 to $7 per item. They are very rich so If you’re in the area and have a craving probably stop otherwise don’t bother rushing in.
Foods Storybooks
I tried their two doughnuts and cappucino. I like the one with peanuts and small chocolate on top (forget the name of the doughnuts) but not really with the white powder chocolate glazing doughnut. The cappucino is okay. I like the staffs, very friendly and informative 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Linda
Pretty up there in terms of doughnuts. The toppings are always changing, dough is soft and fluffy, doughnuts are always fresh and delicious. Lovely spot too with adequate seating. Expensive, but worth it!

It’s National Donut Day, so I figured I had to get myself a donut one way or another. But I dropped by too late and there were only two options, so I got the caramel old fashioned. Overall it was pretty good. Soft dough with just a hint of crunchiness on the outer layer. The taste of caramel was a bit too sweet but not a deal breaker for me. Such a shame that I didn’t get to try the other flavors which looked SOOOOO good on their instagram page!
Espy Eats
So I ended up here today because protesters had blocked the tram lines and I had to walk back to the office. I needed a “lift” and Doughboys Doughnuts was the perfect pick me up. It’s always so good to see unique and exciting flavours. Yes this comes at a price but yes I’m only to glad to pay. I ate the Blueberry glazed lemon curd filled and pastachio crumbed doughnut in store along with my latte to provide me energy for the rest of the day.

I took a Chocolate & Hazelnut doughnut away with me to share the joy with my significant other. This place really did cheer me up... that lemon curd was a delight.
Tiffany
My bar is set very high but I gave it two stars because it doesn’t live up to the hype and it doesn’t really match up with other popular doughnut shops in Melbourne (it’s super competitive here, I get it)

I ordered the creme brûlée doughnut and the maple glazed doughnut. The first one was VERY doughy, too much dough and the filling wasn’t the best. For the price, you would expect something fluffy and creamy. The maple glaze was a bit hard and chewy, the flavour was kinda oily / greasy and there’s not enough glaze to balance that and the doughy taste.

I know doughnuts are “dough-y”, it’s in the name. But for a place that’s charging a pretty penny, you would want something fluffy and has amazing flavour, which I didn’t get. Comparing it to Shortstop doughnuts, doughboys falls short. I’ll go back to try different flavours and hopefully they’ll be better

Amazing donuts, super friendly staff, always remember my name and my coffee order. Also these peeps make a very good coffee! Huge thumbs up :)
DineByNine
I walked in this morning and I felt I was invading the staffs conversation. No Good Morning, or chit chat. I was actually super excited to see Doughboys as I have had it before and loved their doughnuts. Sadly, the coffee was burnt and not enjoyable. After 2 hours I still have 3/4 left.
I ordered a Original Glaze and even that was burnt. I couldnt even taste the Glaze without get a burnt doughnut taste. Despite giving a 2, I have to be open minded. They did well in the past, they screwed up in the present. Will give them another chance in the future.

I was deeply annoyed with the young asian girl who looked to be in her early twenties that took my order. I simply asked for 4 doughnuts and a box because I was taking the train and didnt want the doughnuts to get messed up, somthing I have done countless times before. This time however, the girl demanded I buy 6 doughnuts if I wanted a box and if not, she would put all 4 in a bag. I don't understand how by paying $37 for some doughnuts I would not be allowed the courtesy of having a box to avoid messing my doughnuts up during travel.

Donuts!

Ambience: The place is really nice and comfy, the music is chill and laidback. Just an overall nice cafe feel.

Service: Staffs are really friendly! They serve you doughnuts directly to your table, and clean it up afterwards. No fuss!

Food: I got the strawberry and cream and it was tbh not a good choice as it was overly sweet for me. There was the cream and jam and icing so it's way too sweet. However i tried my friend's hazelnut "something" (forgot the name) and it was yum! My other friend also had the banoffee and she loved it as well. So i think it's my choice of flavor. Nonetheless I do feel like the hollow donut tasted better than the filled ones as I felt like the filled donut dough tasted a bit weird, that's just my opinion.

Price: it's bit pricy especially mine was $7 but probably to be expected from a cafe like this

YUM: hazelnut sth
NAH: strawberry and cream

photos: strawberry and cream, banoffee (left) and hazelnut "something" (top right)

xx、 joelle

Doughboys is a nice doughnut shop, great location and great layout and also great selection of different quirky flavor too. However, I did not enjoy the doughnut that I got because it was very doughy and not a lot of filling. I think the balance between the two were off and made it felt heavy. Nice place but not for me... I wish the doughnut size is smaller and there are more fruity flavors. All flavors there sounded extremely sweet.
CultureClash
Managed to get here last minute and grab whatever was left because I was so eager to try Doughboys. large, fresh doughnuts and decent interior. Apparently there are new flavours every week! which is super exciting.
I shall always remain loyal to pretty looking desserts. Amen🍩

There’s not much that can go wrong with beautifully decorated and delicious doughnuts! Multiple flavors to choose from. The lemon meringue cheesecake was delicious, the peach was ok but would try something different next time. Store was clean and we received very friendly service.

Doughnuts are nice but staff is rude (based on today's visit). I often get doughnuts from here as near from my office. We take turns of getting donuts from there for meetings. Today is my turn. Only 2 donuts left. Bought them and pay cash $15. Donuts cost $14. There was a line behind me and staff said will prepare them for me. Just realised that I didn't get the receipt and change (I checked on my wallet there are only $2 coins) and my colleague also said no I saw you gave cash and no change back. When she handed the donuts, I asked if I can get the receipt and said that I don't think I get my change. At this point. She said: you paid by card. I said no, i paid cash. She insisted that I paid by card and will check on the transaction. She printed out the receipt and handed $1 and said "here, I am just gonna take it out of my wage". I was completely shocked and said NO. I dont want it. Just give me the receipt. Then I left as I am upset. AS IF I am trying to cheat for $1. I was about to make a complain or can check on CCTV just to proof it but then didn't want to make a scene.
I felt abit insulted. Look, I might be wrong, you can always just say you will check on it or whatever. But to say that to your customer like that "take it out from my wage" what is that supposed to mean.
I told the story to my colleagues. Not sure we are back soon.

This place is very popular. No wonder why, they served beautiful looking doughnuts. The verdict? It is not just a pretty face, it is also pretty good! As for coffee? Not as amazing as the doughnut.
Eating Away Melbourne
Love Doughboys Doughnut. Have been getting them from all different cafes and visited the shop they own finally. The cafe has beautiful setting and they serve free sparkling water! Coffees were nice doughnuts with fillings are my favourite. Will definitely return!
Food Coma Survivor
I was there pretty late, and the only 2 flavours left were the blueberry cheesecake and the lemon cheesecake one. I got the lemon cheesecake one, thinking it had so many elements in it. But I didn't really get any lemon flavour, and in my mouth it just tasted like a bunch of cream. The meringue kind of combined with the cream filling, and the texture was just soft. The blueberry one wasn't bad, but it was nothing amazing. But I have to say the doughnuts displayed were presented well. The staff was a little rude, and I felt like he didn't want to be there. The creme brûlée doughnut caught my eye but it was sold out, Im still debating if I should even bother returning to get it.
Piggyeatalot
I love the flavour of their hazelnut praline donuts 🍩 it tasted just like Ferraro roche ❤️ but that being said I found their donut a bit too soggy with a slightly old oil taste ☹️ and that’s their downfall

The donuts are awesome !

No other words for them.. only thing is they keep running out of them, while you are in line 🙂

So go early.. enjoy the donuts...

Went here this morning to get their peanut butter doughnut. Their doughnut its quiete big for $5.5 and taste really good. Really love the peanutbutter that is in the centre of the doughnut.

Great caramel doughnut and excellent coffee! Will be back! Service was polite and quick. Cute little cafe perfect for a quick stop in while shopping.
Lizzie Eats Melbourne
Lizzie's first impression: There are so many flavours to choose from and I can never say no to donuts.

Lizzie enjoyed: The pina colada donut was delicious and was generous in the flavours and creams. The nut ones with chocolates are always a good choice. They have an abundance of filling which is always good.

Lizzie did not enjoy: Sometimes the flavours donuts can be a little too overpowering and takes away the flavour of the actual dough.

Lizzie rates overall: a great place for a quick catchup and donut stop.

FROSTY~ Cinnamon milk crumbs with cranberry compote and vanilla custard.
Slightly different from the display... however it taste good :) the crumbs are nice, the cranberry is sweet :)

Good doughnuts and a nice cafe. But nothing much else to say about this cafe, nothing to rave about. We got the hazelnut and the pandan doughnuts. I preferred the Pandan, as the aroma was nice and strong. They were both very sweet and suits a nice coffee.
@thefoodiealgorithm
Located right in the heart of Melbourne CBD, this is a perfect spot to enjoy a good coffee & doughnut. They always change their flavours which keeps the vibe interesting and worth while revisiting. Doughnuts are made fresh, which guarantees great flavour and consistency. Definetly worth a try!! We sat outside and got to enjoy a beautiful day, awesome..

Dough is fluffy and nice, I got the passion fruit cheesecake flavour. I was worried it’d be super sweet however it was actually not sweet enough. Was interested to try other flavours too but they are quite big!

Impressive selection from doughboys. Got the Pina Colada, huge donut itself that was very sweet. Perfect for sweet lovers. Whilst Im glad I tried I wouldnt necessarily go back for more as I thought they were too sweet. Personally preference.

Great doughnuts and the size is pretty big too for me. Loved the unusual flavor combination in a doughnut. Last time I tried the chocolate doughnuts with some peanuts in it. The place was comfortable to sit and relax while enjoying your dough and tea or coffee.

Doughboys N The Hood :)

What time is it kids? It's peanut butter jelly time, no just kidding it's doughnut time and since I'm on Bourke Street I figured I'd try Doughboys. They have a wonderful selection to choose from and I was tossing up between the Boston Creme and the Strawberry Cheesecake. I went with the Strawberry Cheesecake and I'll probably go back to try the Boston Creme. It's good, damn good in fact, just the right amount of doughy and sweet and delicious. The Iced Chocolate I washed it down with was nice as well and the service was 5 star. So next time you're in the hood, grab the boys and head on down to Doughboys, they're awesome :)

Have followed this doughnut shop on instagram since they opened and finally got to try ! Ordered 6 doughnuts about 15 minutes after ordering; favourites were definitely the old fashioned caramel one (can't remember the specific name) and the French toast

Ordered:
Macadamia Shake: white chocolate, milk crumbs and toasted macadamia

Review:
A little too big and a little too sweet to have by itself, but definitely a fun sweet snack to go halfies with a mate. Lighting is a little too orange for my taste so moving closer to the window was a definite must for me. Otherwise, atmosphere is a little quiet to have private conversations but warm enough to enjoy in one another's company.

If you're looking for an artisan doughnut that's not dunked in oil yet has a fun twist to it, doughboys is the place to go!

Amazing doughnuts! The cafe is really cute and has a nice outdoor patio, too. The doughnuts are $5-$6, but so worth it (and large). I got the French Toast Doughnut which has a maple glaze and French toast crumbs and powdered sugar on top. The dough itself was super soft and yummy.

The donuts themselves are nice but I am still not the biggest fans of their flavours, a simplistic well done donut for me will always be better than an elaborate donut, the same with burgers, the more ingredients the harder it is to appreciate the tasty quality of a simple good donut

If you are looking for doughnuts this is the place to go! Special flavours that can't be seen anywhere else. Their located in the quieter side of the city and opening hours are restricted so be sure to check before heading there

Came in on a Friday or Saturday around 11 and it was pretty quiet. The store is minimal, spacious, and comforting in light wood fixtures. Read my full 🤔 on instagram: @rina.eats

Dragonfruit doughnut
The dragonfruit glaze was a bit too sweet and not particularly strong on dragonfruit, I couldn't tell the coconut shards were salted, and the doughnut itself was a little dry (like dampened out?). The lychee mousse, however, was pretty delish 👌

Rumour has it two friends decided they wanted to bring artisan doughnuts to Melbourne, and they went on cooking adventures, testing many recipes. However they split at one point, with one opening Shortstop, and the other opening Doughboys. Did I just make that up? You decide...haha
The shop is nice and clean, with glass windows allowing you to see what's going on.

What I like about Doughboys is their variety of flavours, which will rotate every so often.
What I don't like is the thick, bready texture of the doughnut itself, and the taste is also lacking, only carried by the toppings and icing.
If you're ever in Asia, drop into a Mister Donut and try a Pon De Ring - that texture is just otherworldly. Soft, pillowy, has a bit of a chew.

Other thing I wonder is why it takes so long to bag a doughnut. If you're not ordering coffee, you might place your order, then have to wait on the side for 5 mins while they place it in a bag for you. Something has to be streamlined here.
Your heart might hurt from the calories, but it will also take a hit at $6 per doughnut. Add a coffee and that's like $10 for doughnut and coffee. Americans would be coughing up their filter.
Points for the variety of doughnuts and interior design though.
All that said though, I've been here maybe 5-6 times, cos I'm a fat bstard and I love doughnuts, this is one of the better joints in Melb.

Coffee review!

Probably not the best place to get coffee from especially, if you are a coffee snob! But for everyone else, yes the coffee was average.

Have tried a few of their coffees but will be back next time for doughnuts! As expensive as they may be, they look absolutely delicious.

Decent staff!

Went back for some donuts and wasn't too fond. Over pieced and fairly average.

Doughboys are reliable and produce visually pleasing donuts. I especially like their opening hours so I have more time to devour a couple before work. Solid place.

A doughnut feast for the eyes. The doughnuts look amazing and a lot of work and creativity goes into creating these great combinations. We had the strawberry cheesecake and one with a blood orange curd cream. Overall they were ok and had good flavor but I felt like I was having a rich desert rather than a doughnut. I still prefer a simple hot jam doughnut over these rich treats. Worth trying one or two, coffee not bad, but don't think I'll be having these again for a while.

Doughboys is probably one of the first place who started the donut craze in Melbourne. I used to go to their small shop in Vic Mart and now they have opened up a super cozy place on Bourke St. Their donuts are bigger than other places and a bit more doughy too. My fav is the PBJ but they did not have it today. My friend ordered the Cookies and Cream. It was quite good but I would prefer the filling to be richer and creamier. The tea pot is so cute but they have strained the tea so I couldn't really taste my green tea when I got it. I would prefer they let the tea leaves infuse a little longer. Service was good though. A good place to catch up with friends or just talk.

I just had my first experience with Doughboy and after wanting to try this place for so long, become very disappointed. I tried the caramel glaze, banoffee and a large coffee.

The coffee is a medium not large, over priced and not nice at all. I've had better coffee is fast food restaurants.

The donuts looked amazing but taste wise, not what you'd expect. Messy to eat and leaves a not so good after taste.

I really wanted to love this place but sadly, no.

I wasn't a huge doughnut fan but I'm really blown away with the quality of doughnuts at Doughboys!
Very nice little cafe near the corner of Bourke and Williams St. Doughboys have limited seating areas and most people will get takeaways. They also serve very good coffee for just $3.70. The doughnut are probably the most expensive doughnuts I have tried starting from $6 each but they are so good!! Very light and fresh!

At the counter, you could easily see the flavours of the doughnuts available today. We went in the afternoon and some popular flavours were sold out already!
Doughboys had old fashioned , simply glazed doughnuts as well as more creative flavours. We ordered the #match mallow# which was filled with smooth match cream and topped with a raspberry mashermellow; and one simple glazed doughnuts(couldn't remember the flavour). The texture of the doughnuts were pretty light and fluffy, might not be the best doughnuts I had, but those were decent doughnuts to have. The #chai latte# I had was pretty fragrant and smooth too. Definitely will go back and try more doughnuts!

National donut day called for sweet treats and these donuts didn't disappoint. Got there by 1030am to choose a mixed selection. Some had already sold out but the Donuts we chose had great flavour, we chose lotus flower (coconut and lychee custard), apple cider, carrot cake, choc cookie and lime meringue. The donuts were mostly light and soft, the apple cider donut was maybe a bit heavy but all were super tasty. My friends did approve of the selections and we will return again but hopefully next time less will be sold out.

Finally a donut that isn't just a pretty Instagram opp, but fulfills its role as an enjoyable consumable. I will always recommend a visit here!

Love the doughnuts here with a variety of selections to choose from. Slightly expensive price for a doughnut but it is pretty huge. You can share a doughnut for two people if you're feeling generous 😊. I've been here twice so far and they change the 'menu' pretty regularly.

The menu had so much to offer that I went a bit overboard and ordered half a dozen doughnuts. Then again, there's no such thing as too many doughnuts ;) The best for me was the carrot cake surprisingly, I think it was the most simplest flavour and less sweet out of the bunch bought. The biggest letdowns were the Matcha pop and the PBnJ, I felt that the flavours were lacking and could have more kick to it. Overall, I'll steer clear from doughnuts for a while but I'll always be intrigue with their unique doughnut flavours.

Had a cruller and was the worst thing i ever ate. Oily and bitter as hell. Although the doughnuts look appetizing this one was terrible. Stay away from the cruller.

I wish I was reviewing a doughnut because they looked amazing! However, I'm on a post-Easter guilt trip and only ordered a coffee! The coffee was good and the service was friendly. The cafe itself is small, but stylish and would be a nice place to sit and enjoy a coffee and doughnut. There was a group of people having a work meeting at one of the tables, so clearly the noise level in the restaurant is comfortable for working meetings.

This is one of my favourite donut places, all the donuts are light and soft and definitely not dense with amazing glazes and fillings, the workers there are also kind and bubbly leaving you with a positive vibe and wanting to always come back not just because of the donuts
