Went here for our anniversary dinner. Portions were really decent, favourite meal was the spaghetti con gamberi - was delicious! The Scampi was also really nice although the scampi was pricey as you only get one between two people.
Only feedback is we asked the waitress whether we had ordered too much food for two people, she said no - it was clearly way too much food!
A wonderful place to chill out the front with a vino and take in the sunshine (well, when Melbourne actually has sunshine)
I was here yesterday for a wine on a scorching day, I ordered some olives and a dry white and the service was terrific.
It’s a very particular crowd who come here, being a local I pop in and out really for a quick drink and bite so next time I’ll dine in for a full meal.
The interior is really cosy as well - yet if you’re an outside kinda person like me, you can’t beat the side tables. Great bar.

The team behind Il Bacaro and Sarti, bring us Bar Carolina. This one is much more lively and fun. On a Wednesday evening it is buzzing with the beautiful people with their designer handbags and plastic surgery. It was my friend’s birthday. We had booked a table for 8pm. And like a true Italian locale, there were others arriving and beginning their meals over an hour later.
We visited this place on a cold wet night and were greeted by lovely staff. We sat at the back, and ordered some drinks.
We enjoyed some of their starters with the burrata which was fantastic, highly recommend. Also, we had the crocchettes with taleggio cheese and leek.
Unfortunately they did not have the Tagliatelle pasta but they had replaced that menu item with some truffle oil pasta which was served like a carbonara (no cream though). It was very nice, simple but still tasty.
Then we finished the night with the tiramisu which was in a sphere, and we cracked open to enjoy their take on a tiramisu.
The ambience and feel of the place is quite typical of today. Nice set up. Something some might struggle with is proximity of other tables. Once you start dining it is quickly forgotten;) I ordered a main of duck ravioli in Cauliflower and grapes. It has been a great while..... Exceptional !!!! A real highlight dish. I also hah some bread with shredded meat and cheese. It reminded me of smoked meat. To be honest I couldn’t stop thinking about the duck. Compliments to the chef. Score, well deserved

I went here for a lunch with colleagues - upon arriving we realized there wasn’t much on the menu for me as I am vegan. We spoke to the lovely wait staff who organized variations of a few of the dishes without any hesitation. The tempura veggies were heavenly, although slightly oily. The pasta was to die for. I had the nettle tagliatelle with mushroom and walnut ragu. The pasta melted in my mouth. Would highly recommend this place!!
Really love this place! It’s a bustling venue with a great vibe. The pasta was incredibly fresh and tasty. We tried a number of entrees and honestly couldn’t fault any of them! Really great place - strongly recommend.
everything we had was amazing
burrata w nduja
calamari
rabbit tagliatelle...
A chef signature in each plates
bravi
come back soon to try new plates
Such a great spot on Toorak Road! We dined here last night and had such a great time we ended up coming back for dessert a few hours later.
For dinner, we had the n'duja burrat, zucchini flowers (a special), the rabbit ragu psata and the ricotta ravioli, and shared the tiramisu for dessert. The rabbit ragu was absolutely delicious, with the truffle pecorino really elevating the dish and making it one of the best pastas I've had in a while! The ricotta ravioli was nice and light, complementing the heavier rabbit ragu pasta well. I also tried the lavender spritz and the raspberry sloe gin fizz. Both were interesting and refreshing, with the lavender being a good 'different' drink while the raspberry sloe gin being a bit more conventional but arguably more tasty.
The Insta-worthy tiramisu was a perfect way to finish off our night. Staff were fantastic, and despite there being an issue with our drinks not arriving until well after we finished our dessert, the staff handled it great and we left the bar (for the second time that night) still very happy! Can't wait to return.

Wonderful little place in a part of Toorak Road that's been lifeless in the past. My friend and I came on a Monday night, and the place was packed. It definitely attracts a certain crowd, but my friend and I were warmly welcomed. We snaffled a table at the bar so we were privy to the buzz around us, and were served promptly and knowledgeably. I asked for a pinot noir and was recommended another Italian red in addition. I tried both and preferred the pinot, but I appreciated the recommendation regardless. We didn't eat, but the menu looked great and reasonably priced. A great addition to the area.
We dined here on Thursday night after Christmas. The dining space is a narrow room with a cool industrial fit out. The restaurant wasn’t busy but half filled out while we were there. Tye food is delicious and highly recommend the calamari, zucchini flowers (special) and crumbed mozzarella and for mains the rabbit ragu was amazing AF. One of my companions tried the lavender spritz which wasn’t soapy and was surprisingly tasty. The only let down in this scenario was the service. I read about this in some of the previous reviews but didn’t want to let it sway me, don’t get me wrong they weren’t awful but there is room for improvement there. I recommend going for the food and drink and soaking up the atmosphere only and you won’t go wrong.
Hearty warm Italian with fresh modern ingredients. Absolutely delicious! Al dente pasta! The burrata cheese and the spicy paste with charcoaled bread was a fantastic dish to start and share with your fellow diners!
Bar Carolina has long been my local favourite for great food and wine in South Yarra. However I was sorely disappointed with the service or lack their of that we experienced at the end of our dining experience last night. Our waiter throughout our sitting was amazing and can’t rate him highly enough. After entree, mains, we were encouraged to order a cheeseboard and 2nd bottle of wine before being asked to vacate our table by whom I assume to be the manager. With full glasses of wine remaining we enquired where we could sit to finish the remainder. I was disgusted by the response of “outside.” I hate that our night and my previous dining experiences have been tarnished by tonight’s events. Sadly unsure if I will return any time soon. I expected better treatment at over $100 per head.
Amazing pumpkin croquettes that was silky smooth inside, complemented beautifully by the black garlic aioli. The clam pasta could have had a more flavourful sauce but still pretty good.
Very good place for friends hangout, not only they have a nice atmosphere but also food is interesting and tasty. Staff is very friendly and gave us very good recommendations. We had very good time.
Had a lovely dinner at Bar Carolina. Restaurant was busy and had a great vibe and the menu was expansive. We started with the pumpkin croquettes with black garlic aioli and then shared the vitello tonnato and the mixed mushrooms for entree. Then for main we tried the salt baked barramundi with organs fennel salad and the crayfish pasta. Everything was delicious but the vitello tonnato was a huge highlight in particular.
Had a booking for Saturday lunch, and we loved it! Firstly, the fit out was lovely. Staff were very attentive, and helped our every request. It was two of our friends birthdays - there was no issue with the cake or timing. Menu was beautiful, really enjoyed my pasta. I had chosen the first one on the menu with zucchini. Thanks again to the waitress who discretely helped me carry two little boxes for my Bridesmaid announcement. We will definitely be back!
Fantastic new Italian restaurant in South Yarra.
Tried the beetroot/goats cheese ravioli and the braised rabbit ragu pappardell and both seriously impressed. The 'octo fritto' and the scallops disappointed slightly but were still tasty.
The tiramisu is a must-try dish, too.
What a fabulous joint this is. A newly-opened, stylish foodie hub in South Yarra, Bar Caroline is a great place to drop in for a small bite and a glass of wine or something more substantial. We had the baby goat with broad beans, which was magnificently mouthwatering, and the braised rabbit ragu with pappardelle, a rich and rewarding bunny-dazzler. Will definitely be back.
We went in a group so we did a sharing selection. Food was sooo good. The gnocchi was melt-in-your-mouth good and the steak tasted so smokey. Yum! Wasnt a fan of the tiramisu, skip it and have the delicious pastiera instead! Fitout was pretty amazing too.
Came here for an impromptu dinner on Thursday night and it was fabulous.
We sat in the alfresco area which is amazing as is just with its decorum.
The food was delicious, we shared the salumi plate, the beetroot ravioli (amazing!!) and the gnocchi with pork sausage. So delicious I would definitely recommend.
The tiramisu for dessert was a stand out and so different than any other tiramisu you would have had in Melbourne!
I suspect Bar Carolina has been open only for days. I have watched it “coming soon” for close to two years!
So I was keen to do it. First visual impression, long and narrow, but nicely modern and well suited to the over 55yos “with it” crowd. Who were there at 6.00pm!
However, if you are up the front it’s warm and cosy, down the back, where I was, a cold area.
The Wine list is my starting point. My position - good Australian Reds, essentially Shiraz with ambition. Like to see a choice, both varietal and price. I was alone, so I was looking by the glass. Forget it, two unheard of offerings at $16 to $17 each. They were fine, or would be at $12 to $14.
Moving onto food I was swayed by a fellow diner. Tagliolina pasta with Moreton Bay Bug. Gnocchi, with Pork and Rabbit Ragu looked good also. Maybe I should have had that. Pasta was ElDante, small serve for a main, taste was fine but some herb was interfering with greatness.
Mains had 6 offerings. Barramundi, goat, duck and steak - all read good and looked good. Sweets pretty much what every one else does (Read Tiramisu)
It’s early days but a pleasant place. The staff all present well, and they make you feel wanted. The tastes have 8+ potential but the house is up there on pricing and limited on offerings.
Competition in this area is brutal. But I’ll be back within the month to see if it fulfills it’s promise for regular dining.

So this new little Italian number opened up on Toorak Rd and it was everything I expected and more. First and foremost the service is absolutely amazing. Whilst our food took a little too long there were plenty of apologies and offers for free drinks to make up for the delays which was lovely. The food finally started to come out and it was very good indeed. We have now been back twice and I loved it just as much as the first time ❤️❤️❤️
Great atmosphere, great food and drinks !
Wine recommendations were spot on for the food we had. The staff there were very friendly and tentative. Steak was cooked perfectly ! Overall har a great time with friends! Will definitely be back in the near future !
Food and ambience was fantastic - service was some of the best I have received in a restaurant in the last few months. Kingfish for entree so fresh was like it had been swimming just before it was served. The Duck Ragu special was fantastic. No normally a dessert eater however the Carolina special was amazing.
Also suggestion of wine was exactly what we needed - great having something you would not normally have - we will be back!
Great location sitting outside in perfect weather.
Food was top quality.
Duck was done perfectly.
Service very good.
Four stars for great atmosphere! Food was okay, nothing out of this world. Service wasn’t bad but just a bit rushed. We felt pressured to vacate the table towards the end of our meal. On an expensive side, however a good spot for cocktails or a night out with friends. Overall a nice experience.
Had a 10/10 lunch this afternoon. Beautiful food and ambiance. The lovely French waitress made the experience more special
Had dinner here on a Saturday night, great ambiance and fun staff. We had a smorgasbord of all their starters which were all delicious, and for mains the salted barramundi crosta was a highlight of the table. The scotch fillet was scrumptious but a bit fatty, but I'd still order it again!
Recommend the burrata and the seafood starter fritto misto. Yummy
Lovely, attentive staff and a warm, inviting atmosphere, plus beautiful food = a truly wonderful dining experience! The kind of restaurant that you can take clients to (as our managing director has!) or enjoy with a group of friends (as we did!) or a special date, highly recommend! Thank you Bar Carolina for a great night out last night :)
Bar Carolina is exceptional! Fabulous atmosphere, sublime food and amazing cocktails. The service is second-to-none. Try the Risotto Verde; it's full of flavour. Favourite dessert? Bomba Carolina (Chocolate & Hazelnut bomb) without a doubt. Always five star.
