Review Thai 29 Restaurant - Melbourne

Heidi
This was the first time we came here and we were satisfied! The space is full of sunshine (we appreciate it much in winter cold days!). Staff is friendly, food is good. We ordered tofu salad, tom yum soup and fried fish. I strongly recommend tom yum soup, love it! If have chance I will come back here and try other dishes 👏🏻

Very authentic Thai food. We ordered Tom Yum soup, tofu salad and Thai fish cakes. Ingredients were very fresh served. We will be back to try the other dishes.

Great food and good service with friendly staff. They were flexible and allowed a minor change I wanted to make to a dish. Reasonably priced. Sitting area is a bit small but overall a great place for some flavour packed food

The best Thai restaurant in Melbourne! Every other Thai place leaves us disappointed. No one is better than these guys! Keep up the amazing work :)

Super authentic Thai food If you are looking to satisfy your Asian food cravings, this is a must-go Ordered Tom Yum Noodle Soup (Veg & Tofu) - not spicy and really good. Good that it's not spicy so I can finish this big portion. They used vegetables that soaked in the soup which made it extra yummy! Other dishes are Green Curry on Rice (Chicken) which is very creamy with loads of coconut milk; as well as the Mixed Seafood Salad which was zesty and fresh.

Cute little restaurant with good staple Thai food. It does a good trade in take away and was nice enough for a feed too.

Nice cozy little place. I was with 2 other friends. I ordered the BBQ pork neck (this is really nice) fried cuttle fish is decent only. Chicken Pineapple fried rice is nice (portion is huge for me). Overall it's not the traditional Thai food like in Thailand. It's a nice aussie style Thai.

Delicious Thai food. Good for lunch, service is great and food was really delicious. Had the Pad Prik Gang with crispy pork! Lots of pork and lots of flavour. Thanks!

Ordered the Thai red curry, rice and some roti via Uber eats. Couldn’t fault any of it. Definitely would reccomend!

One of the best chicken pad thai noodle I ever had, must try delicacy.

Got the pad thai noodles and the "ka nom morgang" which is the thai custard cake topped with sweet coconut milk and toasted sesame seeds. It was a bit weird, the taste of the custard cake. The pad thai noodles was ok, it was a vegetarian one with tofu, crushed peanut, bean shoots, spring onions and stir fried in sweet tamarind sauce.

Great Thai food! Might seem cliche'd but the pad thai was an absolute flavour explosion! I loved it so much! There were constantly uber eats drivers picking up orders all night, and I completely understand why! If I can get Thai-29 delivered to me I definitely would too!
Pictured is a whole fish, which was well cooked and well spiced.
I also enjoyed the massaman curry. Would definitely visit again!

I just had the most amazing spicy noodles! Pad Kew mao - delicious! I was lunching with a friend who ordered the same. We both agreed that our lunch was Chin Chin quality. $14 well spent! Can’t wait to go back to Thai29!
Leila
Ordered the beef pad see ew on ubereats and found that some flavours were lacking + portion size was a bit too small for me. Beef to veg ratio was also off.

It’s my favourite Thai in South Melbourne. I ate many times in and out and it’s been never disappointing. My favourite is the red Thai curry and Roti with satay sauce.

I love going to this place when I’m craving Thai food. I have tried Pineapple fried rice, Phad Thai, Tom Yum and many more. They have got perfect portion size. This small restaurant sets the right mood with Thai cultural ambience. You can even learn few Thai words from the black board which gives out basic Thai expressions with English meanings.

By far my favourite Thai restaurant in all of Melbourne. I had been searching for years for a Thai place that even came close to my favourite if Sydney, and this is it! Only improvement would be to add a delivery service and a laksa ;)
This is my go-to whenever I’m craving thai!

Taste ok, nothing special, not worth the price. You can easily find other Thai place taste better and yet cost less. Make sure check and compare with the take away menu cause some dish cost $2 more dine-in if you wanna save some bucks.

my boyfriend took me here for my birthday and i absolutely loved it. i had the massaman curry and he had green curry and we cleaned our plates up
so cute inside and very intimate
almost forgot to mention how great the satay chicken skewers were
if you visit i reccomend the dishes mentioned above.

Have had Take Away from here twice. Larb Gai has been so delicious... perfect balance of salty, sweet, spicy 🌶Remember to remind them to include knives & 🍴 because they forget

This lovely unassuming Thai restaurant in a quieter part of South Melbourne is no frills, but the food is fantastic. The Tom Kha soup was one of the best I've had and filled with lots of fresh veggies. The service was pleasant and efficient. Great prices for such delicious and fresh food in large portion sizes. A great spot for lunch or dinner if you're after great food and not bothered about things like decor or ambience.

Delicious food. Lovely service staff. Nice and warm inside. Great place to take the family. The food came out super quick and the wine by the glass was lovely.

Terrible. Rude staff, waited 25 minutes for my takeaway lunch. Got the basil and chilli stirfry with tofu. Had 3 pieces of tofu, mostly rice, and the stir fry had no flavour. I asked for soy sauce to be subbed for fish sauce, the person who took my order said yes no problem, but the stir fry has come with literally zero flavour and definitely no soy sauce. Definitely not worth the money. I never leave bad reviews but ugh, this food really sucks.

This is our favourite local Thai spot! Cheap and cheerful, and the food is consistently good. Have eaten in and had home delivery numerous times each, service time is consistently good in either format. Portions are generous. Highly recommend for a casual meal.

Back in the days when I was slumming it with the Route 55 tram folk, I’d walk past the site of Thai 29 and not think much of it. However, reports of it’s excellency began to trickle through the office and it became our choice for our next team lunch. Thai 29 delivers competent Thai home cooking in a welcoming atmosphere that kept everyone in the team content and well fed. Even Jenny, even Anthony, everyone. It become a viable option for future lunches as well.

I ordered the green chicken curry, thin, watery- like soup with little flavor is what it tastes and looks like, I'm no chef but this is not worth paying for at all - terrible

It is a small place with few tables inside and then few outside. The staff was nice and we didn't had to wait too long to give our order. The place was close to full around lunch time. I had Flat noodles with chicken and my friend had beef curry over rice. Both of them were delicious. The quantity was very good and filling. No complaints, will come back again.

Cute little cafe, worth a trip to the side streets of South Melbourne. We were intending to eat in, but they happened to be doing renovations so take away it was. 3 meals (veg and tofu pad thai; green chicken curry; steamed stuffed calamari) and a small rice was $46 and the servings were big. The pad thai was flavoursome, the calamari was slightly chewy but packed a delicious chili punch, and the curry was sweet and spicy with loads of chicken. Service was very hospitable, making sure we were comfortable while we waited for our take away. Well worth a visit.
The Swine
The Swine ventured out to the back streets of South Melbourne in search of this little Thai place and what a pleasant surprise it was. Interesting little house type cafe just off the King Street motorway but it really delivered quite delicious Thai food. The Swine brigade all agreed that Thai29 was more than reasonable in Thai taste and generous servings. Price was also very reasonable. The seafood "Pad Thai" was very generous and the beef Mossoman Curry was tasty n authentic. Thai 29 has tables inside and out - perfect for a sunny day - and the staff were pleasant. This might not be the best Thai the Swine has had (Home Thai in Sydney still wins) but it gets the job done as a good experience. The Swine would go back!

To be honest I wasn't expecting a lot when I tried it. But it was actually fantastic. Best Thai around. Really enjoyed it and the portions were excellent. Will certainly be returning.

Awesome simple thai. Had the Green Curry with Tofu, Veggies with brown rice. It was a generous serve, fresh and very fragrant. Great service, reasonable prices, and absolutely nothing to critique. An excellent restaurant that I'll be going back to.

Disappointed. I frequent this joint pretty often as their food is good. however, i am very disappointed with the customer service. there is no flexibility. to start off with, i think the pricing is steep for lunch and when i asked for cut chilies on the side, they wanted to charge me an additional 50cents. shouldnt the condiments be included when you're already charging $13.90 for a chicken fried rice?? not just me, but i have heard a few complaints and people arent going to go back to this place anymore.

I like the curry...good food...excellent service...recommend it

My best friend and I moved to South Melbourne today and were looking for a good local Thai that we could become regulars at. We found this little gem, and will be sure to be back. We noticed that the interior seemed spotless. The waitress was very sweet and friendly. The roti bread was perhaps the best I've ever eaten - flavoursome, fluffy, and not at all too oily. My pad see ewe was beautifully presented, and I noticed very fresh ingredients, a good amount of vegetables (beans, broccoli, bean shoots, carrots) with coriander and potentially chives. Full of crisp healthy freshness. The food seemed very "clean" and fresh somehow. Really nice. Will be back often!

YUM!. Really enjoyed the red curry and the massaman curry. The meat was super tender and spice level was perfect. Would definitely go back there.

The new name has stuck, but the new menu hasn't. The old menu is back, and just as yummy! Massamun was delish last night.

Yey!. So pleased! Back to the old menu.. the food is as good as it ever was!

Blue apron has excellent Thai food, the red curry has the perfect level of chilli and the roti is light fluffy and crispy, I highly recommend it :)

These guys are back to the fantastic Thai food we have loved for years! Great food and the friendliest people in South Melbourne

Love this spot. These guys are possibly doing the best thai food in town. I am always greeted by smiles and the food is delicious. My favourite dishes are the Massoman Curry (extra chilli), Green/Red Curry, Pad Thai and I am addicted to the prawn rolls for entree.

Lunch Specials. Love their Chicken Green Curry!

Still Excellent. Sweet Lemon has changed it's name to Blue Apron. Simpler menu, but still the most authentic Thai cooking in Melbourne.

Tom Yum still fantastic! Grilled dishes so tasty.

Such a waste!. Why they would cease to operate Sweet Lemon Thai, and replace it with this garbage I do not know!

Sweet Lemon Thai was possibly the best Thai food in Melbourne...this place is now just a joke. Express meals and no curries or even Pad Thai.

Will never be back...such a sad, sad thing. I seriously doubt many regulars of the old Sweet Lemon Thai will come to this place now that they have completely changed everything.

I know that I used to come here almost daily, but not anymore. Really sad!

Those who love Grill/ Barbecue and Brown rice. Simple and Healthy Grill, love the Grilled Beef (not beef patty!) and Brown Rice.
the Grilled beef has that sweet, smokey flavours from the grill. while the home made sauce w shallot (bit spicy and sour) just complementing the beef itself. overall quick tasty meal for the price less than $11
(they also have a standard Jasmine Rice or the optional "Sticky Rice")
