Review Fandango Cafe - Melbourne

Delicious food, coffee, and fantastic service at this rustic little cafe. There's a great little courtyard out the back if you need a quiet break. The burgers were REALLY good. Big and juicy. Thanks 👍

I ordered food via uber eats yesterday. The food was delicious but, the fact the coffee was packed in such a way that it was still hot even after i finished the meal.I was so satisfied I immediately reserved a table to dine in for today. The food was so good and the service was amazing. All the staff was friendly and the owner treated us like family. I highly recommend this cafe. Will be visiting more often ❤️

Sorry this place is FRICKIN AWESOME 😭😭😭 been here twice and the food is always so fresh. Try the mushrooms - so yummy. Burger is also so thicccc. Eggs always on point. You must visit! It’s also always spacious here. Service is great - not like the other (😜😉) over populated and over priced brunch options in Melb. 10/10 LOVE

First time here, we had a seat at the table at the back. Really nice café with excellent service. Food was good. Coffee was ok though. Probably need better adjustment to dial in the settings.
Jeremy
What a cute place this is !! The coffee was nice and I enjoyed the food, my bowl wasn’t too sweet and was the right amount of food to fill Me up nicely. Staff was friendly and the little courtyard at the back is a Gem !!

Summary: This is a gem of a brunch cafe. Looks average from the front but the courtyard seating is beautiful. Been here several times and the food has always been brilliant. Highly recommended! Pros: - Superb food - Menu includes some unique takes on the classics - Beautiful courtyard seating - Fair prices - Great service Cons: - Limited good seating

Friendly staff, great food. Had the Salmon dish. In the past I've had the Haloumi sandwich and Pesto Bruschetta, would recommend them all.

Fantastic small cafe with delicious breakfast, coffee and very friendly staff. We visit weekly and it has been great every time. The meals are a reasonable size for the price. They even offer your dog free bacon. Would highly recommend Fandango Cafe for breakfast/ brunch (it is much better than Auction Rooms next door).

Food not up to scratch especially for Melbourne Brunch. Food does not match photos. Could be Made at home. Service was friendly and coffee was good.
Platecreative
We ordered smoothies and coffee from here, smoothies were decent however I had one of the worst soy cappuccino and matcha latte i’ve ever had. Please improve on your drinks.

Fandango cafe in North Melbourne may be a little on the small side, but before you walk out thinking that all the seats have been taken, make sure you check the courtyard at the back - even when it’s cold they have blankets to keep you warm. This little gem of a cafe is situated next to some big name cafes, but that doesn’t stop them from delivering a lovely spread.

Cute little cafe in North Melbourne. Great food, coffee and very friendly atmosphere. The size of the meal is pretty generous. Good value of money. Highly recommended :)

Found Fandango from a sponsored Instagram post... I'm glad we tried it! Doesn't look like much from the front but through the friendly kitchen we went to the covered courtyard. We were offered blankets to help keep warm. The coffee was great and the food looked just like their Insta snaps. The French toast is made with a Turkish bread that makes it crispy but light and of course the bacon, apple and maple syrup top it off nicely. The eggs benny on sourdough were also a hit. Also loved that the cutlery offered did the job on the sourdough and we didn't have to saw the bread! Really enjoyed our Sunday breakfast and will be back.

Small and unassuming cosy spot near one of my faves - Auction Rooms - that serves very good coffee and homely breakfast/brunch offerings. Looked like pancakes was it’s most popular items as most tables seem to be having it. Lovely staff.
Michael Diamond
Beautiful outdoor area with lots of plants, great food, good coffee, very friendly staff! Highly recommend this place, the atmosphere is great

Coffee is good but the place itself is extremely busy on weekends which makes it difficult to score a seat depending on the time. Love the sandwiches as well but the bread is a little bit too thick. Otherwise fantastic.

got the lovely lil place at a cold windy morning and I was quite impressed by the two staff ( maybe the owner couple?but, idk so sorry indeed if I’m wrong) warmly greeting me and considerately asking if there’s a need for a hot drink. the girl told me ‘Fandango’ means two people dancing together. interesting.
despite the heart-warming service, the food and coffee weren’t that perfect, at least for me. while every Melb cafe makes a unique decaf soy latte, this one’s taste was on the light side. and my long-waited pancakes were beautiful and fluffy, but unfortunately after I’ve finished half of the big serve it became kinda hard to continue cuz the dish was actually lil bit dry.

I really need a decent French toast for my post-holiday depression 🤷🏻‍♂️ And I happen to know the right place to have it! 😋😋🥓🍞 Consequently, they r currently doing 10% discount on Wed to Fri, such a great timing to visit! (Make sure u show the voucher on their Instagram while you check out)
.
FRENCH TOAST ($19) with bacon, cinnamon baked apple, maple butter and syrup was DIVIDE! 🌟🌟🌟 The portion was very generous, French toast was perfectly cooked, simply paired with a few slices of bacon and drizzle of maple syrup. It’s not as glam as all those gimmicks one out there, but sometimes simple is way better, like HK egg waffle (just leave it plain would u!?). This dish very much appreciated coz They are doing them justice!! I found THE BEST FRENCH TOAST IN MELBOURNE ✨
.
PANCAKES ($18.5) 🍓🍓🥞with honeyed cream cheese, roasted rhubarb, pickled strawberries and maple syrup. Pancakes were big, warm and fluffy. A delightful meal with the perfect balance of sweetness and bitterness️ ❤️💚.
.
Just when u thought they can’t do any better, they serve proud mary coffee ☕️☕️ very strong coffee I love that. Staff were very nice and attentive 😊 How can u not love this place already? For me, Fandango is so much better than Auction Rooms next door. I can’t wait to come back to try their Oreo Pancakes looks so tempting 🤤🤤🍪🥞

Fandango faces some tough competition seeing as Auction Rooms is right next door, but you'll be glad you gave it a shot! Lovely courtyard area, amazing staff and brunch dishes with an Indian twist. Can't wait to come back!

Chose this cute little cafe based on ratings but didn't quite stack up to expectations. We ordered pancakes and egg/bacon sandwich + chai latte. Pancakes were delicious but the cream was a little dense. The sandwich was made of quality ingredients. The service was friendly. Would recommend offering share plates for those wanting to share their meals :)

One of my favourite spots in North Melbourne. Chilled vibe, great coffee, food and service. Staff are super friendly. Pancakes are 👌. Worth a visit

Would I return? I would however there are so many other good options nearby that I am waiting to try!

Fandango is a small cafe right next to the Auction Rooms. Not sure how they can survive under the massive pressure from a big cafe like that. But Fandango has a nice cozy vibe that big cafes can't offer. I fyou don tlike been squeezed in tightly then this isn’t your place. There is outdoor seating undercover also so when you arrive keep this in mind if the front of the café is packed.

Everything is on the classic Aussie breakfast side. They also have some slightly different items/flavours on the menu as well as the standards so it caters to the traditional as well as those a little more adventurous. They use a Proud Mary blend for their coffee which has undertones of caramel fudge and dates. Delish! I ordered the special of Potato Rosti with Smashed Avocado, Pesto and Chorizo on the side. The meal was presented beautifully – check out my photos however it was the flavours which I was more impressed by. All defaintely handmade on the spot and full on perfectly balanced flavours. I was very full at the end of the meal however would have made myself ill to have more!!!

Service? Attentive with a smile
Wrap up: Great local option if you don’t mind the cosyness of the place.
Bonus: You get 5% off if you pay cash
Dimples
Nice and cosy little shop. Started getting busy right after 9.30am on a Saturday morning. Tried 2 dishes on their special menu. Looks amazing. Jiggly poached eggs. Beautifully presented. Get 5% off if you pay cash

My absolute favourite place for coffee. They use a Proud Mary blend with undertones of caramel fudge and dates. Personable staff and great food. Love the breakfast burrito. Wished they opened on Monday and Tuesdays as I miss having my morning coffee!
Piggyeatalot
Really enjoyed having a quiet brekkie in this tiny little unassuming place. I caved into my sugar cravings and ordered the strawberry and rhubarb pancake - best decision ever! Add a side of chorizo to balance out the sweetness was a great idea too! 😛

I do find the cream cheese on the pancakes a bit too rich and the price of chorizo a bit steep for what I got given (4 thin slices of chorizo for $4.8).

The soy mocha was ok, expected a bit better from Proud Mary coffee but it’s acceptable.
Eating Away Melbourne
Small cafe right next to auction rooms. Not sure how they can survive under the massive pressure from a big cafe like that. But Fandango has a nice cozy vibe that big cafes can't offer. Everything is on the classic Aussie breakfast side. I had the French Toast which was with bacon and maple syrup and sometimes when you had too much new creative breakfast this one time classic was quite nice.

Went to this place for brunch on Anzac day and it's fantastic.
It's a small and cozy cafe on the main street of north Melbourne, a hidden little treasure. When we arrived, one of the waiters ushered us to the through the cafe to a very small and beautiful courtyard.
The waiters provided fantastic service and the food also matched this.
We ordered the smashed avo, with mushroom and extra toast. We also ordered an omelette and asked for extra things with omelette and the omelette was cooked to perfection.
Both meals were fantastic, service was really good, and the ambience was just perfect, can not fault this place.
Will definitely be going back again

This place is so small but they serve very good food. We ordered chilli eggs and cheese burger for lunch, and both of them got my thumbs up. The chili eggs was spicy and the toast was pretty thick. Unusual but I like it. The cheese burger was very tasty and the chips were mildly salty, not sure what they put there but it was yummy. The food came out rather slow though, even though there weren't many people. Lastly the drink, we ordered Bahama smoothie which wasn't too bad but I think there were not enough fruits. It's kinda watery or milky.

Scoured for a quick breakfast spot this morning and discovered this little place on the Errol Street stretch of shops and eateries. The pancakes looked the most interesting on the menu and the order was soon taken by attentive staff.

Three fluffy pancakes arrived ringed by strawberry syrup, piled stewed rhubarb, honeyed cream cheese, sliced strawberries and garnished by a little greenery and black seeds. The must-have maple syrup was in a little bottle so you can decide how little (or how much) you want. The tart rhubarb, salty cream cheese, sweet maple syrup blended well together, though it's impossible to finish such a generous portion. Fascinated that you can add optional bacon to this dish... maple bacon?

Polite and smiling staff made up for the very claustrophobic and aged setting. Both the front and backyard seating couldn't have been packed more closely together. To go to the backyard seating from the front entrance you have to pass behind the cafe counter and the kitchen. The bathroom is in the kitchen area next to the dishwashing area. It felt like an intrusion into what should be sacred space - the kitchen - but maybe I'm just too conventional. I'll let others be the judge.

Great coffee, perfect pancakes & good 2 cheese & mushroom jaffles. Service was very friendly & fast. No fuss just right. Highly recommend it.
Dan Kelly
Amazing food, above and beyond service. Really nice and peaceful back courtyard. Will be returning! We had the avo smash and an iced coffee.
TheWhiteSherpa
How this place is rated so high it is a mistero. Don’t get me wrong, nothing was absolutely bad but nothing was particularly excellent to justify coming back. Next door to Auction Room and in general competing in the Melbourne city arena is a though gig so if you want returning customers you will need to lift your game. Sorry.
Kathryn 'Wing-man' Kassab
I got the beetroot "poached" eggs. The chefs seem to have no idea how to poach eggs.. My "poached" eggs came out hard boiled and I've read reviews that have reported the same thing. I didn't bother complaining about it though or asking for them to correct the meal because the meal was really nice otherwise, and very filling. The staff were friendly too. I'd love to go back and try one of their smoothies!
Cheesy.boys
Great little cafe with a beautiful court yard at the back. The coffee is great and so is the food. The curried eggs is a favourite of ours which we’ve come back several times to enjoy. If you like something sweet then go the French toast.
Vivian Darkbloom
I absolutely loved this place, I had the best pancakes that I have ever tasted. The coffee I had was great and everything else on the menu looked yummy. The decor was very cute and vintage just a great experience all round
Foodlovermelbs
Great service, nice ambiance and good food! Enjoyed having brunch here! Ordered the pancakes with strawberry, rhubarb, cream cheese and maple syrup plus the cheese burger with crisps. The sauce was amazing. Definitely a good brunch spot in North Melbourne!
Kevin.attard
Nice courtyard out back. Great food and service was good even though my order was wrong, they corrected it quickly. Limited menu however still enough choice and the coffee was pretty good
Alexis Chan
I have been there for more than 5 times. All I ordered is always beetroot eggs. Nice service. The owner remembers my order preference. Special requirements would be satisfied.
Clare
Another great little spot in North Melbourne! Fairly small but they've added on a cover to their rear courtyard which was great considering the weather was threatening rain when we went. The staff were helpful and the food was not only tasty but really good portion sizes - fairly large really. The coffee - Proud Mary - was great too. They also have some slightly different items/flavours on the menu as well as the standards so it caters to the traditional as well as those a little more adventurous. Would come again :)
MeowCat
I was shocked when I came here at how bad the service was. Firstly we waited over 40 minutes for our food and when it arrived our poached eggs were hard boiled and one of my friends orders was the wrong order. She sent her order back and had to wait another half and hour and then when she received the correct order the eggs again were hard boiled instead of being poached. Apart from all of this the food was nothing special. Will definitely not waste my time coming back
Wangliwei.sg
Great environment at the backyard. Love the pancake, nice balanced sweetness with bacon. Would prefer the pancake with less butter. Would like to visit again.
Renee Z
I really really really want to like this place, because it gets such great reviews, but the first time I tried it my meal was boring and kind of reflects the limited menu. I will have to give it one more try, because it just doesn't make sense!

A hidden cafe located in north Melbourne, fandango offers simple and tasty breakfast and lunch.
Started off with a latte and a smoothie (that I can't remember the name of but it had bananas and Manuka honey).
Coffee was lovely and the smoothie was deliciously fulfilling.
If you want to go for something simple, go for the chicken toastie, the chicken itself could be more soft and flavourful, but great value for money and fulfilling.
The cheeseburger is exactly what a cheeseburger should taste, soft, juicy and flavoursome. They also provide tortilla chips on the side which is very different from fried chips, it's actually quite tasty and does not make you feel guilty.
Definitely would return and will try other things on the menu.
Staff are friendly and attentive.
Take your lover, friends or family here for simple breakfast and lunches.
Ian Laking
Fandango has great portion sizes if that's your thing. The outdoor courtyard is hidden away round the back, and is definitely the cafe's best asset outside of the food. Coffee is good, which is saying something when you're two doors down from Auction Rooms.

In short, worth checking out.

A small little cafe right beside auction room. The coffee there is amazing as it is from Proud Mary. Had the smashed avo with bacon. Serving and quality was great. Definitely worth a trip there and not because of the fact that Auction room is crowded.
Nozomi Oishi
Had the Pancakes and Atlantic Salmon. Pancakes were fluffy and the sweetness of the strawberries contrasted well with the tartness of the rhubarb. Place is pretty small though.
Daniel Hill
I was fairly disappointed with the overall experience. While the staff were friendly enough and it had a homely atmosphere, I waited over 40 minutes for my poached eggs with beetroot & feta. It was well presented on the plate when I finally received it, but the poached eggs were way over cooked (the yolk was like a hard boiled egg). Unfortunately this made the whole dish quite dry. I'm sure the staff would have happily replaced my eggs, but due to the initial long wait I really could not be bothered waiting any longer.
Elisha Lee
You know a place is good when you go to the same place twice in a week. Fandango is homely, has a warm service, and their brunch menus are perfect. I'm not usually a fan of poached apple or pears but their french toast (crumpet) with poached cinnamon apple was delicious. And so were their pesto scrambled eggs and BLT sandwich with avocado. I also love their cute little courtyard at the back!
Chee Ching Low
Food here is surprisingly good but I wished it had options that were not on a heavy side.
And what I mean by that, I wished there were less greasy options.
Food here in general can be quite oily and it makes my tummy feel comfortable if I have an empty stomach.
But other than that, I like the food here, it's a gem especially when it's next door to Auction room.
Isabel Iliona Lim
Great food, clean ambience, overall a great experience at Fandango for a hearty brunch. 👌🏽 Really nice place to take minimalistic, Pinterest worthy pictures.
Must Be Hungry
Fandango is the perfect example of why Melbourne has infinite venues offering great products😄. I had the pleasure to enjoy their coffee served by Proud Mary and ate a Chicken Toasted Wrap🌯. The food was fresh and tasty, I did leave a bit hungry but it was my fault ordering just a wrap 😥. I will have to come back and try out their breakfast items 🐗.

Thank you for having me 😘
The Frugal Cats
Our original plan was to go to Auction Rooms next door. However, due to the never ending long winding queue, we decided to try Fandango instead, and boy we weren't disappointed!
We got the curried eggs with roti bread, chickpeas and eggplant relish. Very different to your typical breakfast dish but so delicious! We also had the french toast, which was presented in a glorious tower topped with bacon. Again, couldn't fault the dish!
Our latte and iced chocs were on point too. Service was prompt, friendly and attentive. Overall, highly recommended and we'll definitely be back :3
AJ
I've visited Fandango a couple of times and really enjoyed it! The staff are lovely and service is quick. They have some inside seating, a courtyard as well as seating on the street.

Their French toast is some of the best I've ever had! It's a really generous serving that comes with bacon, baked apple, maple butter and maple flavoured syrup. My friend had the chicken toasted sandwich and loved it. I highly recommend this cafe!
Rebecca N
Great cafe - generous serving sizes and delicious too. Sourdough was delicious. Attentive wait staff and quick service of meals made for an enjoyable breakfast!
Eleanor
Great food, great service and awesome value for money. Definitely a go-to for brunch in Melbourne. We got the French toast with bacon which is absolutely divine, the smashed avo with bacon (one of the best smashed avo in Melbourne) and the Indian eggs which were also awesome although a tad tricky to eat due to the serving plate. We'll keep coming to Fandango for a guaranteed delicious brunch/lunch
Sugar_licks
This is a gorgeous wee cafe, ask to sit in the courtyard which is shady and a lovely relaxing space, was not too hungry so ordered a toasty and a milkshake, they were both massive serves - the toasty was filled with ham and melted cheese and mustard, the milkshake was fabulous just milk and chocolate - staff were incredibly sweet - a gorgeous cafe looking forward to revisiting!
Thuyteeisaboy
Been here several years ago and had their avocado dish on sourdough which weren't that great as the sourdough bread was thick, hard and was difficult to eat with a blunt butter knife.

I recently returned this month to try their pancakes and it was delicious! The pancakes were soft and fluffy and the strawberries and rhubarb gave the perfect balance of tart and sweetness to the dish. It also comes with maple who doesn't love pancakes and maple syrup?! The only thing that wasn't to my liking was the cream cheese but that can easily be neglected on the plate.

My friend had the French toast and says that it's good!

Our coffee and chai latte was good too. Overall we had a lovely breakfast and would def come back for the pancakes, maybe even the Oreo pancakes if I'm feeling up for it!

Corey Busuttil
Really friendly staff and the food was great. The French toast is a massive serving! And he smashed Avo and feta cheese was really tasty. Will definitely come back again
TheyCallHimX
Fandango appears small when you first walk in and it was packed so looked like we wouldn't get a table, but fear not, there is a courtyard!

Glad we got a table to, cause this place was so good coffee and food wise. Not too expensive either for the serving size.

Service was excellent. Staff were friendly and quick to attend to our needs. Food came out relatively quick for a packed cafe so happy about that.

Will be back for sure.
Paul-Anthony
Great consistent Cafe - I have been here twice in the space of 12month, and it was the same each time - Not disappointed

4/5 - Coffee - smooth, creamy coffee - In the heartland of good coffee can't go wrong - all the cafe latte were all consistent
4/5 - Food - Good selection on the menu, all were great tasting, on our last visit we tried three dishes, portion sizes were filling, cooked well using conventional produce.
3.5/5 - Service - Table service was friendly and accommodating. Food and Coffee didn't take long to come out. You might get forgotten at the back when quiet so doesn't be afraid to ring the bell.
4/5 - Atmosphere - Small Cafe with limited inside seating but a larger (but small) back courtyard with rear access, easy to find and plenty of car park around.

Suitable for Singles, couples, families (child-friendly) - high chairs are available (Pet-friendly), I would caution larger groups there might not be room...

This place is recommended
For good food and coffee visit Fandango
Jacqui Beckar
Great food! The courtyard out the back is the best spot to sit. Would recommend their smashed avocado with feta, great service and definitely my regular
Katherine's Food Diary
There was quite a long wait before our food arrived, although it was a weekday morning and there weren't many customers yet. But when the food came, it was well worth the wait.

There were mounds of eggs on my plate, piled upon two slices of thick sourdough, topped with crispy bacon. I was in scrambled egg heaven - this was one of the best eggs I've had... really rich, just wet enough (not dry and omelette-y like the way how sometimes scrambled eggs can get!) with the perfect amount of seasoning and flecked with bits of nuts.

BFF had french toast with bacon, baked apple and maple butter. Man, this was a mountain (not that anyone was complaining :D) of toast, bacon and apples dripping with syrup and dusted with icing sugar. It was more like a piece of art! The french toast was rich and eggy, with crispy corners that were not soggy, and the maple syrup came in a tiny jug, which you could top up yourself. The bacon was amazing - really tasty and crispy.
Jasmine Aquilina
The service and food was equally amazing! Definitely a 10/10 experience!
Not to mention cute to boot courtyard at the rear. Beautiful on a sunny day (:
Angela Eats
I ordered the beetroot poached eggs and spinach not realising after I got it that it had no meat. Rookie mistake Angela, (I love my meatsss). Anyways the poached eggs were cooked to perfection, runny and delicious. However, the whole dish was bland, nothing special. On a good note, the staff were extremely nice and welcoming!
LittleM
Fandango is a pretty small cafe when you enter however there's also a lovely courtyard at the back through the counter with more tables. A friend and I went in for a Sunday breakky around 9.30am and there were a couple of empty tables. We ordered the pancakes with bacon, and the beetroot eggs with mushroom. We had to wait quite a while for the dishes to come, however the serving size was generous and the dishes were tasty. Lovely cafe to stop by in North Melbourne if you're after a warm and wholesome breakfast.
Andrew T
A small but hip cafe, with a good warm vibe to it. The coffee was very good, as was my breakfast choice. There are some vegetarian/vegan options but a few more added to the menu wouldn't go amiss. The service was efficient and welcoming.
Borderline Sunshine
I visited Fandango in the middle of a weekday with mum, it was very quiet which was nice. Very friendly staff and fast service.
Mum ordered the grandmother ham with apple, cranberry and fennel chutney. She enjoyed it, but it was such a big serving so she could only eat half. Mum also was very impressed with the coffee - she can be a hard one to please when it comes to coffee.
I ordered the curried fried eggs with Indian spiced chickpeas, minty yogurt and warm roti (and a side of bacon). Very tasty, although it was such a large serving again so I couldn't finish it.
We will be back to sit out in the courtyard when the weather is warmer.
Paladin Boyer
We had a delicious late lunch here. Breakfast meals. Nice poaching of the eggs. No Cheeseburger available today. Great coffee. Quaint setting. Cool staff. In house made pickle relish. A must.
Ta.be.tabi
Another nostalgic cafe from my days working in North Melbourne, the space feels even smaller than KUU Cafe (maybe because the kitchen isn’t visibly open), with a communal table in the centre, a couple of 2 seaters near both walls and some outdoor seating. I met my bf here for lunch as it’s a Friday and he is still working.
Boiledeggs
New fav place in Nth Melbourne for coffee....new barista is killing it. Keep up the good work guys! Weekends seem to be pumping so will drop in on a weekday for brekky!
Jin Jin
I would love to recommend this small cafe, if you want to have good real food and nice coffee :D
I love the chilli scrambled eggs with ricotta on the sour dough, yummy in my tummy!
Clarinna
If you are looking for big portions and decent price, this is the place you should go. I'd recommend the french toast, it is served with apple, bacon and maple butter, a combination of salty and sweet. The chilli scrambled eggs were also nice. The place is quite small so make sure to come early and have a group of 4 or less to get a table straight away.
Melbourne Explorer
Fandango has some pretty famous neighbours, but they hold their own.

Great Supreme coffee and a good range of choices for brunch.

Its a small place, but if there is no room in the front, they have a secret courtyard out the back.

Find me on Instagram @melbourne_explorer or at MelbourneExplorer.com
Mi55Bee
Love the beetroot smash with feta! Their mushrooms were cooked to perfection. Another must order is the basil scramble eggs yummm! Portion is big and will surely fill up your belly, unlike some breakfast cafe out there. Coffee took awhile to arrive but the food is definitely very week executed and tasty
Jools Of Melbourne
Great breakfasts! Pancakes are fab, as is the coffee. Generous servings and efficient pleasant service. Limited inside seating makes it appear full, so head through the kitchen to the courtyard. Def worth a visit.
PandaSerra
Sweet service, good coffee and fantastic French toast - love the maple butter - yum! With the maple syrup in a jug I could dose out the sweetness. This place was great!
Monks
This little place in north melb is certainly worth a visit! Everyone enjoyed their meals which was the best part! I had the french toast which was delicious. My only criticism was that my first coffee tasted not quite right but the scond was good. Great service and smiley faces!
Gemima
First off, amazing coffee. Seriously. Food was great, had the pancakes and curried eggs. Only thing I can fault is the rhubarb had no ooomph but hey everything else was 👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽
Luke And Hannah
Right next to the always popular Auction Room, this lovely place serves great food despite the limited seating offered. We tried their signature french toast and were thoroughly impressed with the balance of smoky savoury bacon, sweet maple syrup and crunchy toast. The pancake was also pleasant as sour rhubarb went well with funky cheese and sweet pluffy pancakes.
Eunice Zēng
Have been hearing good reviews about them for the past months and finally decided to give them a try. Ordered the Curried Eggs and it didn't disappoint at all ! Although they could cut down on the nuts in the dahl curry, otherwise it was a brilliant attempt at recreating an Indian fusion dish. 👍🏻
JLN
Fandango is unlike any other cafe I have been to, maybe I am saying this as I have little experience with cafes and have never been to one in which you have to go through the kitchen to get to the back courtyard.
I ordered the pancakes and was very happy with my meal, I also have never had rhubarb up until now but enjoyed it along with the cream cheese and maple syrup which were all apart of the pancakes.
Whilst there are many more cafes on Errol Street, I am glad to have came to 'Fandango' and experienced it.
Bitz & Bytes
We were nearby and looked around as per app ratings. Fandango was the choice. We were not disappointed. The coffee was the best I have had in months, and the meals were beautifully presented and superb. Lovely cosy atmosphere, and friendly staff. We will definitely be returning.
Fanny Foodie
Had a perfect time here ! Had lunch in the small courtyard a the back which is absolutely lovely! Staff was so nice ! And the food .... I had a smash avo perfectly done !! Poached eggs were cover with pesto and that was just soooo good ! Definitely come back !!
Juzer052
Pesto scrambled eggs, cannot go wrong at this place. Consistent every time I have visited here.
Travelling from SE suburbs totally makes it worth.
Ben Hall
Consistently awesome food and coffee - these guys make the best chicken toasties I've ever had! Went to try Auction Rooms but it's always too busy to get a table, and tried here instead. Since then it's become our favourite cafe in North Melbourne. We did eventually give Auction Rooms a try for brekky and found it to be overrated, overpriced and completely underwhelming in comparison. Do yourself a favour and come here instead!
Excellent, friendly service and a nice little courtyard nestled in the back make this an easy 5/5.
P-mac
We were the first customers in the store for the day and we weren't disappointed. Service was prompt and polite. Coffee was great and food was excellent. Recommend the French toast or hotcakes. Will be attending again soon.
Rahul Barmanray
Food was quite nice, great avocado smash. Took 25 minutes for the food to come out, which was too long after a night shift, but they were reasonably busy and that's probably par for the course on a Sunday morning. All in all, would come back for the bacon but the lack of smoothies might make us pick one of two many other close by great places.
Crispymelbreview
After reading some of the reviews here and acknowledging the high rating I must have had high expectations for my breakfast.
Firstly, the coffee was nothing special with chocolate powder on the top...a big no-no with fussy baristas.
I looked on Instagram and decided on the French Toast which failed to satisfy. I prefer brioche bread for French Toast -- the likes served at HARDWARE SOCIETE, MR HENDRICKS or WIDE OPEN ROAD--but got ordinary fried bread. The few baked apples with the dish were slightly hard and flavourless and the bacon greasy.
From looking around, the other options from the menu may have been more appetising.
The place is small but its ambience has the potential to be cosy.
Service was lukewarm and matter-of-fact.

(English comment below)
店裡的經理真的帥氣得讓我腳軟!
Curried egg
Ask for seats at the backyard and you will love it, for its comfortable space and each table kinda "sectioned" for privacy. It's lovely.
I ordered curried egg - delicious smell and strong acidity, compact dish so I kind of have to finish the fried egg on top before next. Roti bread is a nice way in replace of toast but it's difficult to cut with knife, and oily to tear with hand.
My friend ordered the beetroot & poached eggs was nice but nothing surprising.
Except the manager-barista kind of guy is so handsome. Omg. I think cafes recruitments in Melbourne will soon look at "exceptional grooming" just like in Tom Ford.

Best coffee, tastiest scrambled eggs, awesome crispy bacon, seriously amazing bread and Orange Juice just the way I like it! This place is one of the best in Melbourne... Wow! Also great service and friendly staff just make coming here even better

A lovely place for brunch! It is very small compared to other places, so get in early! The staff are so lovely, as is the interior of the place. Food was humble, and very delicious. Fandango does not really do "experimental" brunch food if that's what you're into, however if you're looking for a solid meal, whereby each element is done very well, then this it. Thanks Fandango.

hidden gem in north Melbourne! it's so amazing that we have to pass through the kitchen to go inside the cute little courtyard they have for their customers. the cafe is super small so it's amazing how these employees could walk around the area.

food wise, it's really tasty. my Beetroot eggs was to die for. I'll try making it at home. the bread is thick and kind of tough though. service is fine and the waiting time is like 15-20 minutes which really didn't bother me.

coffee, it's too milky for my liking. not a fan of their coffee. nuff said. I have no idea what coffee bean and roasters they are using but for me, I think they need to change their supplier. coffee should have that kick which I can't find in mine.

overall, service was alright, food is YUM and coffee isn't. 3.5 would be the right score to give them.

A hidden gem only a few doors down from the larger (and possibly not-even-as-good) Auction Rooms, this is an all-round excellent place to satisfy that craving for brunch. The smashed avocado was quite good, served on quality thick toast. Arguably, French toast was even better, a little sweet and a little egg-y, the toast itself fresh and crisp, and it was further improved by generously pouring the well-balanced syrup. The only minor quibble was that the toast had possibly stayed in the pan a touch too long and was a little more hard-edged than ideal. Bacon, while not quite the best in Melbourne, was more than adequate to please that instinct for meat. Curried eggs with chickpeas was apparently a surprise hit as well. Coffee was as smooth and nicely done as needed to complement the food. Overall, a great experience -- and if you can, sit in the courtyard out back. Much nicer.

Delicious food. Generous sized servings. Friendly basic service. Only gripe is the extremely weak coffee. My latte was so weak I could hardly taste the coffee. I then ordered a double shot and it was just right!

gem of a find in North Melbourne ... coffee was really good and so was the food ... service was average ... wait staff could've been friendlier

Terrible photo I know but at least you can identify the place. Or you can find it next to Auction Rooms which is always booked out so I’m sure this place often gets the overflow of people that get rejected from there. Avocado and chicken sandwich with a generous amount of both on thick ass toast!! Awesome! Toast was sourdough and because it was so fat, it was satisfying to take a big bite.

Delicious, simple and fresh food. We had avocado with poached egg and french toast. Both so tasty and nice. The french toast is a must. The Coffee was good too but maybe not one of the best in Melbourne.

😚The French toast and the maple syrup taste gorgeous together. The bacon is also quite nice but a little bit heavy. Meet two super cute puppies in the cafe, which makes the brunch quite fun. North Melbourne is really good neighborhood.

Nice little cafe located just a few doors away from Auction Room. We chose to have a seat at the courtyard as the weather is nice and beautiful today. Ordered the curried eggs with chickpeas, pickled brinjals and roti which is really tasty and full of flavours. The minty yoghurt complemented the dish well.

Fandango was fantastic! Situated only 2 or 3 stores from the massive Auction Rooms cafe it's a tough spot to be competitive but the quality of the food we enjoyed here was top notch, even for Melbourne.
Curried eggs with naan? May not seem like your typical breakfast but that is the point! It's different, delicious and daring. I had the beetroot and spinach with poached eggs and spinach - on point.
They have a pile of blankets, great coffee and attentive and lovely staff.
Lastly, don't freak out when you walk in and see 3 tables - they have a quant little courtyard at the back.

After finished the morning summer course, I just want to enjoy myself. Not crowed, and the service is friendly. I must try the backyard when I come here again. I can't say how delicious it is but I must miss it.

So many brunch options in North Melbourne, Fandango being one of them. My friend didn't want to wait in the food queue next door.
So we decided on Fandango, making our way around to the back seating area.
All your favourite brunch fair's available, I tried the B.L.A.T and Avo Smash, forgot what she ordered. Guess it doesn't matter.

Fell in love with this cozy little brunch place. Came here for a brunch on Australia Day. The weather was perfect so we sat at the courtyard, which was just lovely. The cafe was surprisingly not that busy and our coffee and food came out pretty quickly.

We had the French toast which was a balanced mixed of yummy sweet French toast and tasty bacon. My partner loved it very much. I had the pesto scrambled eggs with mushrooms on the side. The dish was really delicious as well and they were pretty generous with the mushrooms, which was a plus point ;). Can't fault the coffee - overall a great experience. Would definitely come back to try their avo smash and beetroot eggs!

This place just ticks every box! Great coffee, great food, great service. Aaaaand minimal pretentiousness (a rare find in this area!). Will absolutely be back.
BRUNCHIN' WITH US
We wanted to try out this new place, it has a very cute and chill environment! We were nicely greeted and all staff were friendly. We ordered the avo smash, beetroot and eggs and the french toast. The food was pretty good but the wait was pretty long. Over all, It's definitely worth a try and it was good!

This quaint little cafe serving good food and good coffee is a less conspicuous and unpretentious alternative to the more popular and crowded Auction Rooms next door.. Very much smaller but much cosier. The food is more homely and down to earth but still a few notches up from the usual brunch fare. Great Bircher and curried eggs!

Top notch mocha and French toast of the year. Small little homely cafe right next to Auction room. I love their generous portion, super tasty dishes and value for money. Love this place more than Auction Rooms. Service can be slightly slow but it was worth the wait!
