Review Highlander Bar - Melbourne

Matt Moss
Just when we think there are no more amazing bars in melbourne, where you can chill with great music and people.... We stumbled across this hidden gem! The management are amazing people friendly and funny, being great hosts to an incredible end to our Saturday night, 5 hours later we stumbled home. Thank you for having us and for all your great hospitality, we will be back soon. Matt.

Came here especially for my first pint of T in over three years and was met by this sign. Very sad I never got to see the place and meet some fellow Scots. Hopefully they can figure something out.

Such a good little find! Tried a few Scottish drinks that I've never even heard of and had a good yarn with the staff. Gotta reccomend the Tennents and a Bucky Bomb! Delish đŸ€€

Ordered mushroom burger and Mac & cheese. The burger was too salty. Would probably taste better if you have it with alcohol I guess, I suppose alcohol will desensitise your taste buds a little. Anyway the wee bites were great.

Disappointing There was no patrons (except for half a dozen drunk teenagers) when we arrived and soon came to realise why! Atmosphere was bad, they were playing triple J radio , the food we got served was supposed to be traditional scottish but turned out to be frozen packed food! When discussing with the owner the barman interrupted and started giving abuse stating "we are closing after 18yrs due to covid and what do you know" . Well if they lasted 18yrs it was not because of him, that I do know! Unfortunately we will not be back, sad to say this coming from a Scotsman who was just looking for a "wee bit" of home.

Such an awesome place, neatly tucked away with the best, really friendly staff & incredible whiskey selection!

Publicising an event when the Pub is closed for renovations is double plus ungood. Worse still is only having a notice of said closure on the pubs door. Is worthy of -1 stars if that were possible. Waste of a visit.

Cozy bar with good range of Scotch and spirits đŸ„ƒ Amazing guy at the bar tho, loved his energy 💚

I’ve been past this fine establishment too many times and I haven’t had the opportunity to stop. <br/><br/>Well when in the area my partner and I called in for a pre dinner drink. The crowd appeared friendly enough and the service was alright too. <br/><br/>This place has more specials than you can poke a stick at haha. They have daily food and drink specials meaning I’ll have to go back to check this out. <br/><br/>I ordered a British/Scottish beer given that this pub had that theme but unfortunately a lot of the beers were local commercial. <br/><br/>But I understand that they have a lot of scotch whiskey and a good Scottish beer that I tried. I’m definitely going back again just to try some of the food and maybe a tipple haha.

I was there for a trivia night, it’s a very quiet pub with close to no one! I think it’s because of the location. It’s actually a little too fancy for Scottish food. I really enjoy it though!

We came here for the $1 oysters on Thursday night and unfortunately it was a big disappointment. The oysters were not fresh at all and they did not have vinegarette which was unfortunate. We ordered a dozen and a half of oysters between 3 of us and we didn't even finish it..
Nay Nay
A cosy Melbourne lane way bar with some great Happy Hour deals. It wasn't to much so it was nice and quiet to catch up for a drink with mates.
Crabapples For Lunch
Had takeaway lunch here as part of Mealpal. I had the Flying Scotsman burger with chips, which was crumbed chicken, chilli and mint coleslaw, mayo, cheese on a brioche bun.<br/><br/>Although the description was technically correct, the photo of the burger looked like a proper fried chicken patty rather than the chicken schnitzel patty that I got. The schnitzel was ok but nothing fantastic (I would have just gone to Schnitz if I wanted a schnitzel burger). The bun was warm and decently fluffy. The cheese wasn't really melted when I got it but the inner parts did melt later on. The coleslaw was average - I could taste the mint in there but didn't taste the chilli at all. I wasn't particularly interested in the chilli but since it was advertised I think it was worth mentioning. The chips in the photo looked more like slightly thicker shoestring fries that were golden brown; I got really mediocre chips with some paprika on it that was otherwise quite dry and kind of a waste of stomach space.<br/><br/>In terms of the venue itself, the bar was very dark and quite cosy with a few large booths suitable for 6-8 people. Service was casual as you'd normally find at a bar. I think it would be a nice place to hang out with friends (assuming it doesn't get too noisy, but that's just me).<br/><br/>For the price I paid for it ($4.80) it was well worth it, but for the usual price of $13-$15 (it usually comes as a lunch special with a complimentary beer/drink)? I'm not sure the food is good or cheap enough to convince me to dine here unfortunately.

I have to start with the vibe, and staff were great! The customer service was really there but I was let down by the food, I wasn’t a fan of the burger. But I would definitely try other options
Beth Ward
Burger was amazing! Everything else was kinda disappointing. Chips were way too salty, and the beer I got to wash it down was warm. Staff seemed annoyed I was there. Maybe it's better at night but the atmosphere at lunch was pretty depressing.
Micah
Not a fan - was overcharged on the credit card by $90 for one transaction. Took over a month and several follow up called for a refund to finally be processed.
The Dear Luncher
Aye Blossom!<br/><br/>The Highlander has that feel about it, where if you were in there at 3am back in 2001 you'd be a few pills deep and dancing with the lasers. But in 2018, during the day it masquerades as a burger joint with subtle Scottish themes. The burgers are of a very good standard. This is off the back of about three visits now and The Dear Luncher is always struck by how delicious the patties are. Juicy and flavoursome. Pink. The chilli sprinkled fries also go down a treat and for $15 you get all that AND a Heineken.<br/><br/>There can be only one!
Spaghetti Monster
Friendly waitress and a decent selection of burgers. I had ‘The Highlander’ which was essentially a bacon cheeseburger that came with fries. Nothing exceptional but it was a decent feed. The dark and gloomy interior reminded me of my student days in London, which is a good thing. I would eat here again.
FoodieMe
Good place for drink .period. wouldn't say the same for food..the ambience s avg and would not go back again. The place looks a bit old .can give it a miss..

I used a voucher to try the food there and was well aware that it could only be used for normal menu. Used up the value of the voucher, went back to the bar to buy another round of drinks, was told I wasn't allowed to get drinks from "Happy Hour" menu. When I pointed out that I was using cash instead of voucher to buy drinks, the guy had an attitude and kept saying "Really? Really", then threw the drinks and me and shouted "You're welcome!!!"<br/><br/>I'd still come back since I'm a sucker for haggis, but like other people have commented, the food was stale, both haggis and fish & chips. Not worth putting up with the staff's tantrum.

Highlander is a rustic venue down Highlander Lane and I have come here a few times over the years for an after work drink. They have some very good happy hours in fact that has been the main reason we would go there... cheap and cheery. Up until last week the only food I had there was chips to accompany the drinking but came in for a mealpal lunch of the little bastard burger with fries. This represented good value as part of the mealpal deal. The burger itself was had a ton of sauces but was your basic cheeseburger with pickles and perhaps a little too much mustard for my liking. No complaints about the chips. Certainly better burger spots in Melbourne but if it’s a cheap burger and a cheap beer this may be an option.
Oodreiilittlepotato
Fish and chip with salad 😍 didnt expect this big portion. But totally recommended this dish~ really filling, the fish is so nice~ however the chip is just okay as well as the salad.
The Gastronaut
This place serves American style fried food. Burgers, fries, and platters rule the menu. Platters are definitely a must try, if you are with friends. It gives you a chance to taste some of their best items on the menu.
Penguineats
This pub meal dished up by Highlander Bar was unimpressive at best. While their burgers may be serviceable, all other items we sampled today were clearly prepared without much thought and care. The unremarkable results speak for themselves really.

In a nutshell it was a really pleasant experience.<br/><br/>The staff, in our case, a Scottish (lass) lady behind the bar was super friendly and bubbly and welcoming. The accent helped too!! Knowledgeable about the food AND the beers!<br/><br/>Food...Fat Bastard and the Braveheart followed by the Marsbar dessert. Both burgers were delicious but the Braveheart with the Haggis was absolutely spot on!! Had a zingy spice to it that was hard to go past. Chips...thin but still nice.Service was slower (not slow) than most places...but obviously this comes from cooking to order and not having stuff sitting under a hot lamp. Happy to enjoy waiting and chatting rather than having the food slapped down within minutes of ordering.<br/><br/>Decor was a bit dated but not too bad to look past this.<br/><br/>Realistically the only issue we had was there was no roaring fireplace...or warm as far as temperature in the room. Given it was a cold winters day we visited this was the only thing we found lacking.<br/><br/>Otherwise a great time had.
William
Had a voucher so headed down with a mate. Best burger I've had! The big Bastard is just that, a lot of flavoursome succulent meat with a very generous serving of chips. Was a struggle to get through but well worth it. Cool joint and super friendly staff. Can't fault it. Will definitely be headed back

Poor poor poor. Ordered two bowls of mac and cheese - bar is empty, service staff on phones constantly. Food took over and hour and fifteen minutes to be served. Bar tender offered a drink for the lengthy delay - blaming it on an influx of orders (there were three couples in the bar)<br/><br/> Mac and cheese has gone downhill, much like the service which is horrendous

Highlander Bar is a “wee taste of Scotland in the heart of the CBD”, serving a mixture of both classic & contemporary Scottish cuisine. They are easily located down Highlander Bar, just off Flinders Street.<br/>  The bar area is dimly lit, but stocking a huge range of Scottish cocktails, whiskies and ales as well as your usual selection. The dining area isn’t much brighter, but very comfortable with sofa styled seating. <br/><br/>We were here for a quick lunch, but the service was quite slow. In saying that, the dishes were all fresh and tasty. We found the platter a bit messy, but there was a good amount of sauce with each bite, not to mention the good variety of different bites to sample!<br/><br/>Check out the review of Highlander in the blog post below.

Fat bastard burger $19, haggis balls $13, Loch Ness-presso $18<br/><br/>Had a cheeky lunchtime session here, a nice and quiet hideaway in the middle of the busy city.<br/><br/>Not the cheapest of places but the food was good. The crumbed and deep fried haggis balls were a great way to contrast the creamy rich taste of haggis with a crisp crunchy outside. Only problem was that there wasnt enough Sriracha mayo.<br/><br/>The burger was indeed "fat" with generous patties and all the fillings of a good burger. The shoestring fries were a little generic but still tasted great. <br/><br/>As for the Loch Ness-presso, I think I'll always make them this way. Whiskey, Frangelico and Drambuie! Bonus, it served in a teacup with a shortbread bite on the side - no one would know you were imbibing!
Good Food Good Mood
Came here for dinner with colleagues given the proximity to our office and although it was a little more lowbrow than the type of place I usually go to with this group of friends I was intrigued to try a Scottish bar for something different. Upon arrival it was pretty quiet but we firmly embraced the happy hour which ran until 7pm. We chose to order burgers and tacos so nothing particularly Scottish and it was all fairly average. It's not a bad pub like atmosphere in there but not really my kind of jam. Very casual so an option for a relaxed post work drink
Johnny Boy
Cool little grungy bar in a side street in Melbourne.  Doesn't look all that appealing from the outside but cosy on the inside.  We found the food to be delicious especially the burgers, although the string fries chips weren't that tasty and were too salty.  They also have great sauces/condiments with their meals.<br/><br/>Lots of great beers to choose from also.  Staff are very friendly and easy going, although it took a long time for our meals to arrive.  <br/><br/>Definitely will be back for the tasty food, nice beers especially during happy hour (5-7pm every day) and laid back friendly atmosphere.

It's the second time we've been to Highlander and it's not been disappointing. Highlander is a bar/casual dining establishment, serving local and Scottish flavours. They have an impressive and delicious menu, which also includes popcorn chicken, mac'n'cheese poppers, and haggis bites (a haggis can be a sheep's stomach filled with meat and barley). Pride of place are their burgers. <br/>The wait staff are friendly and attentive. The venue can be booked, if you have a large group (10ish). Orders come out fairly quickly. Cosy atmosphere. I ordered the Fat Bastard. Double meat, cheese, sauce, pickles and fries for $19. <br/>Bun - decent. Holds up and doesn't go soggy.<br/>Meat - very nice. Quality. No gristle. Falls apart easily (which is awesome)<br/>Sauce - just the right amount.<br/>Salad - N/A <br/>Fries - shoestring. Not bad. It would be great to have a sweet potato option. <br/>Looking forward to coming back. <br/>

if youre looking for a review of food and drink, you can skip this one. We have made a reservation for 2 on last Saturday. We turned up and found out the entire bar has been booked for a function. Although I booked it a week before, the manager did not let us know about this change. They even could not find my reservation name when I showed them the zomato booking code. When you received a booking confirmation which apparently confirmed and reminded you that you have a dinner on Saturday night, you expected being able to sit down with the table you booked. Is that right? If the manager of this bar can read this, please manage your booking system. It is annoying and for sure will leave bad impression for your future customers like me. And of course, they would never want to try and book again even though your food and drink could be amazing.

We took advantage of the deal $80 worth of food for $39 on Scoopon. This bar specialized in Scottish food, which was something we havent tried before. The menu sounded promising. We ordered the chef platter (everything in this were fried and tasted average -haggis balls and black pudding were nicer than i expected- if you have had Pate before, they are quite similar). The chunky steak pie was very small and dry. The fish and chips with literally 3 pieces of fish with fries that wasnt cripsy and the house tartare wasnt nice at all. The haggis meal was okay but you kinda got sick of it after the first piece (they gave you 2). <br/><br/>If you are planning to come here for food and drink, skips the meal and get burgers. They look more promising. <br/><br/>

Staff are friendly, service is quick, vibe is cool and a bit quirky and the food is indulgent and delicious. Everything is also very affordable. Highly recommend!

Came here on a Friday night. The atmosphere was great I loved the dimly lit cozy feel of the place. Huge drinks menu. We had a jug of sangria and it was great. I also had a $5 whiskey. Happy Hour is a massive bargain there! $5 drinks from 5-7pm. I ordered the mac and cheese with bacon, I wasn't too impressed with that, there wasn't a lot of cheese flavour and the bacon was soggy. The macaroni was barley coated in sauce. I also had the chicken ribs. They were so good! Really crunchy and juicy. I would go back just for them. My friend had the McMushroom burger, from what he said it was pretty good. It looked great.
The Swine
This was the Swine's first visit to Highlander as part of a work lunch function. The place has a dark mysterious pub vibe with its various split levels, mood lighting, quirky decour and somewhat strange art prints. The Swine loved this. The 15 dollar work week lunch special for a main meal and drink is appealing. Becks beer but decent just the same. The Swine had the namesake Highlander Burger and chips which was quite satisfying. The burger was a bit on the rare side but enjoyable none the less. Staff were pleasant and attentive which the Swine liked. The Swine would...

What an amazing birthday! They are so so friendly here and feel like being in a part of Scotland. Try the mixed platter! The girls are friendly with great service! will be back!

Great atmosphere and the drinks are very nice! <br/>Great service and their burgers are to die for. Chips are salted very nicely too!<br/>Definitely coming back here again!

Highlander has been my second home. A tiny pub with awesome food, cocktails and friendly staff members. The beef burger is literally finger licking good. The staff members make unique cocktails and they make you try. The live music on Thursday night is something we look forward for every week. This pub in Melbourne supports so many talented artists who play on Thursday nights. It is my best hangout spot in Melbourne.

Absolutely enjoyed the chicken popcorn, beef burgers and the Chef's share platter! Joined Highlander Clan and received $50 birthday voucher. Celebrated w friends at Happy Hour 5-7pm, $5 per drink. Always had awesome experience here, especially the friendliest and impeccable service by Kate and her team!

I held a 60th at the highlander for my dad. It was such an amazing venue! The staff went above and beyond for us on the night. Kate was amazing and catered to my every need. She even organised balloons for me at the very last minute when I forgot them! I highly recommend this venue. Kate and her team are fantastic!

Great burgers and drinks. Very reasonably priced and good service. The drinks are great with generous pours and a really good vibe and crowd. Recommended!

Ordered croquettes, mac n cheese, hot wings + corn and slaw, fat bastard burger, highlander burger, chicken taco and fish taco. <br/><br/>Tacos weren't that good, it was cold and felt that it was on the pass in the kitchen for some time. The burgers on the other hand were pretty good. <br/><br/>Mac n cheese balls weren't too cheesy, but without the accompanying sauce is rather dry. Hot wings were good. The potato croquettes tasted like deep fried mashed potatoes mm.. <br/><br/>Corn and slaw was ordinary, but I do admit getting to try the wide array of sauces that was provided at the bar kept me satisfied.

Nice burger place and plenty spicy sauce options<br/><br/><br/><br/> <br/>

Indie dive bar. We went on a weeknight for dinner and drinks. Fairly quiet, eclectic crowd. Had Coopers sparkling ale (of course) and food was decent, but took a while. Don't get any wine, ours was stale and off.

Food and drinks quite alright. Service not so much. Drinks arrived 30 mins later. And then food after. It was a Friday night though. On other nights it might be worth a visit again.
Toby
My partner & I ate there three times in the past year. Each time with a voucher. All in all we've had the popcorn chicken (yum), NYC wing (loved, the blue cheese isn't overpowering), croquettes (good), fries (too much spice), wagyu tacos (great), highlander burger (omg so good), lamb burger (delish - sadly it's no longer on the menu). We also ordered from the cocktail jug list although they weren't overly special. The staff are so lovely and the atmosphere is warm, although on a Friday evening it can be noisy. The private booths are a nice touch especially on a crowded night. By far the best bar food in town!! We can't wait for our next Highlander experience.
A Chronicle Of Gastronomy
After acquiring a birthday voucher for the venue, we dropped in to Highlander Bar for a quick post-uni/work celebratory feast before returning home. Though I’ve visited Highlander Bar previously, I didn’t try much of the menu so this was a good opportunity to see what else was on offer.

Decent dive bar: way, way overpriced food. We went to this dive bar with a Groupon voucher: pay $20 for $40 of food and drink. The bar itself is pretty grungy which is no bad thing and they have a good variety of booze on offer as well as some suitably 'grungy' toilets. The food, however, is ridiculously overpriced and resembles not at all the fancy menu descriptions you might see online. Our $40 just paid for two burgers, not even enough left over for drinks. That's right, almost $20 for a burger and fries. <br/>Now, I know that $20 for a burger is not unheard of but these were seriously very basic burgers despite the fancy names on the menu. Basically a sub-Oporto style burger with fries, but at twice the price. A posh restaurant might get away with this overpricing because it is in keeping with every other aspect of 'poshness', but with the décor and general ambience of Highlander bar, the prices of their burgers are just a joke. Go for the booze, the tunes or the atmosphere but anyone who recommends going to this place for the food is about as reliable as someone recommending you go there because of the quality of their toilets.
Northcote Reviews
Top spot. Cozy, inviting space to chase away the winter chills. <br/>I actually used the venue above as a performance space which was flice(!) and tricked out with all the necessary gear (screen, projector, mic, amps etc) The staff were beyond efficient and helpful when it came to setting up and striking down. They take their business seriously and it shows. The space itself is casually cool and shies from pretentiousness; which again, is reflected by the staff. <br/>Overall: a great venue, affordable tasty eats, and classic drinks. What more could one want?

MAybe it was a mistake to go in Good Friday but the kitchen was sending out food like they didn't have a clue. A table of four all ordered burgers and 10 minutes later got told two of them had sold out. Ordered another two to be told that item had sold out too. Finally confirmed all four burgers available. Two came out in reasonable time. Then another 5 minutes later and after sitting for 15 mins and checking on the order, I cancelled the last burger when everyone had finisher theirs plus their drinks. That said they did look nice so maybe just a bad day. Not sure I'd go back though.

WOW EXPERIENCE!. OMG! This place made my Friday night. Went here and had so much awesome food, drinks and so much fun. Music was fantastic. Burgers are top notch. So delicious. Popcorn chicken with mayo jello sauce. Awesome. Ribs were so flavoursome. Yummy! Service was supurb. Friendly, always smiling and pleasant. Well mannered. Courteous. Love this place. Great place to bring your friends and hang out. You gotta try the burgers. They are the absolute best! Will be coming back again and again and again and again. Thankyou for a WOW experience Highlander Bar.

Burnt ribs and long waiting time. We found the Highlander bar on Groupon where we could spend $40 in store but only paid $20 which is a pretty good deal. <br/><br/>ATMOSPHERE <br/>The atmosphere is kind of seedy with stripper booth like seating, dim lighting and brick wall interiors which could perhaps be passed off as a "bar atmosphere" but was not too comfortable as a restaurant setting.<br/><br/>WAITING TIME<br/>We ordered at 6:49 (checked time of text message when ordering) and got the highlander burger and Mac and cheese croquettes at 7:25 and the lamb ribs an hour later at 7:50. We overheard the table next to us chasing up their croquettes and another girl from another table was asking the waiter about her meal too.<br/><br/>FOOD QUALITY<br/>Ribs- The ribs came with 6 ribs, 3 stacked on top of the other 3. The bottom three ribs were burnt (attached photo) and sneakily hidden under the relatively better three ribs but were far from "char grilled" and were completely black and burned. I tried to eat the rib thinking it would be okay but the disgusting taste of bitter chemicals put me off the rest of the meal. The top three ribs lacked in meat flavour, only masked by a layer of honey which was quite nice but would have been better if there was more meat on the ribs. The ribs were about 65% fat which was quite heavy and uncomfortable for the stomach after eating. The ribs were also not evenly cooked and probably rushed, as the top layer of skin was very hard and slid right off the rest of the fatty rib. <br/><br/>Mac and cheese croquettes- The Mac and cheese croquettes were the highlight of the food. The Mac and cheese filling had the perfect combination of cheese and onion, coupled with nice chewy macaroni. They were also a nice golden brown colour and when combined with the mayonnaise was heaven in my mouth compared to the other under average food. <br/><br/>Highlander burger- patty was juicy and full of flavour. Bun was a bit burnt overall quite tasty but not worth $18. It is good for $9 (amount we paid with the Groupon voucher).<br/><br/>Overall okay eat for half price but definitely don't get the ribs.

The best burgers in melbourne...i swear!. Forget about the "unit's" comment...I've been coming to this establishment for a couple of years and the service is fab and super friendly! Then we have the highlander burger which is to die for!!! Come one, come all and relish in the relaxing atmosphere and happy moods!! Ohh yeeeah baby
FOOD TRIP
Crispy Popcorn Chicken with Jalapeno Mayo Chicken was nice and crispy. Had some random bits of just skin/fat which wasn't great. Good sauce for dip.... NYC Wings (half dozen) $12 Crispy Buffalo Wings in Frank's Hot Sauce with Curdettes & Roquefort Cheese Sauce The blue cheese sauce left the worst taste in my mouth. Definitely an acquired taste. The wings were okay, but too oily. When we lifted it off the bottom, there was a puddle of orange oil.

Highlander Lane, off Flinders Street right near the aquarium, is home to Highlander Bar – a bar/restaurant/events space that has a bit of a pub feel to it. Much of the ground floor is occupied by circular booths centred around small tables, giving each one a greater sense of privacy. Other than its obvious offering of alcoholic beverages, its menu encompasses tacos, burgers and snacks such as wings, ribs and fries...

Forgot to actually be a restaurant. Came in, sat down. Listened to the bartender talk to a patron about male primary school teachers and pornography. Ordered a cocktail - they were out of one of the ingredients. Ordered a different drink.<br/><br/>Ordered some tacos. Was told the tacos (which occupy literally a third of the menu) weren't on tonight because "she forgot to buy them". Ordered chicken wings with blue cheese sauce.<br/><br/>Was served chicken wings along with an apology for the lack of blue cheese sauce - "the chef forgot to make it".<br/><br/>Terrible joke of a restaurant, won't be back.

A cool place to hang out.. Hadn't been here in ages and now it could be a regular on our city list. A friendly welcome as soon as we got there from several of the staff. Good size booths along the wall to hold 8 of your friends, Music not so loud so we could talk. Happy hour cheap drinks for 3 hours a night. We had heard about the bar snack food here and so had to try it (3 of us) so we got a plate with 3 different soft shell tacos. Wow they were fantastic. Fish, prawns, pulled pork were all winners. Fresh ingredients and a 'zing' of spice. Then we spotted someone else with the platter of lamb ribs so we ordered 2 platters between us and wow again! Shake the bone and the meat falls off, juicy and tender. Next time we will do the burgers.
Mel Wishart
Went on a Thursday night for an early dinner and drink. We all had burgers and although mine wasn't delivered until after my two friends had already finished theirs, it was well worth the wait. The lamb burger was amazing!! Nice ambience. Good wine. I'd visit again.

The Highlander Way. Want a friendly bar to sink a cold beer, tap your feet to good music and chomp on Melbourne's best burger? - try the Highlander - great atmosphere, a superb menu and best of all, friendly bar staff. Happy to keep going back! Danny.
Kimmy_desu
Nice atmosphere and ambience but the food is way too oily. One skill for deep frying is to know when to change the fire in order to let the oil drip out. Other than that, the chips were quite nice and crispy and we also liked the buffalo wings and lamb ribs, burgers were good too. Should add some more variety to the menu too.
Love Eating Out
Absolutely delicious!. We went on a Wednesday night with 4 of us and vouchers. The decor of the pub was nice and it had a cosy atmosphere. <br/>We ordered 3 highlander burgers and the chicken tacos. They were all very delicious. The chicken and mayonnaise on the tacos was particularly outstanding. <br/>The staff were very friendly and service was great.<br/>Definitely recommend!

Cool Bar great food. Cool place to have a few drinks and a bite to eat. All meals were high quality

Came here a while back for a mid week dinner. Very cosy indeed. Nice ambience, almost a little too quiet. Worth a look when you're in that part of town :)

Tasty business. Bluestone ambience with cosy booths looking out on the historic laneway, friendly staff who know their stuff and always up for a chat and voila the food is super tasty - go the fish tacos or wagyu buger!

Recommend it!. I went to Highlander last weekend with some friends and really enjoyed it. It has a great atmosphere with a live band. The food was good and reasonably priced and overall we all just had a really good night there. I would highly recommend this place and will be heading back there again myself very soon :)<br/><br/>Denise K & M

Very professional operation... <br/><br/>1) Food was DELICIOUS<br/>2) QUICK to arrive <br/>3) AFFORDABLE<br/>4) Ambience and vibe was cosy and friendly <br/><br/>Ticked all the boxes. I'll be back

Great ambience with friends, food hit the spot and plenty of imported beers. Recommend it

Disappointing. We went here on a Friday night and were desperately disappointed, we were waiting for ages to get our table which had being booked, about 30 minutes after ordering our mains we were told that one of them was suddenly of the menu and food was not great at all.......with all the amazing eats in Melbourne this was definitely my least favorite.
David Food Leasing
Voucher. Food was average. Service was friendly. But food took a long time to come out

Great fun bar food, cool music and a funny bartender. What more could you want? Found a regular after work hangout and terrific place to forget the office during lunch!

Most awesome staff, and food, and vibe. GO!

PartyHaze. For those that are a fan of the polish dish Pierogi, this is a must!!!! Real deal Pierogi! With each bite into the perfectly cooked dough you find yourself discovering what sauerkraut and meat pierogi is meant to taste like, and in that instance transposing yourself into the kitchen of a Polish grandmother with all the aroma that comes with it. Bardzo dobre!!!! <br/>Then followed up with the falafel burger for main....excellent brioche bread, and the falafel....also real deal!! <br/>Respect given on meeting the expectations and anticipation of foods that are all too often far from what their true state is. <br/>Great ambience for a friday lunch with a smooth Sangria or few! <br/>Will be returning to explore the menu, including what seemingly look like an ideal venue for post work drinks

Has potential but when so many already living up to their potential I'd probably try elsewhere. Can't complain with $2.50 tacos on a Wednesday but they added a couple extra to my card that I've realised too late. Hopefully a honest mistake at their end but enough to ensure I won't be back I'm afraid.

Not too sure what the bad reviews are about but seeing as they weren't specific we decided to try it out for their 2 for 1<br/>Taco Wednesday. Yep 2 tacos for 5 bucks! Pretty sure Maccas can't compete. Being from North America<br/>Real Mexican tacos are our favorite. Bar staff is fun friendly and both bartenders tonight were amazing.plus the place is designed for groups with big comfy booths although it was just my partner and I it was so<br/>Nice to have this massive booth to ourselves, feet up after a<br/>Big shop! If you go into a bar with a crappy attitude and expect a fine dining experience expect to be disappointed, go to a fine dining restaurant! Don't go to a hidden bar down a random alley. I loved this place and feel some<br/>Of the reviews are ridiculous and this gem overlooked :) we will def be back!

At the Highlander there was lovely music playing and there was one other big group there celebrating their end of the week with champagne and red wine. Specials Board Sauces I was served one very friendly lady who loves her customers. The service was very quick. They have their $15 burger special but I came pretty late, hence I was not hungry. Instead I wanted to try lots of different things so I got the 3 for $30 tapas and $12 tacos and $2 lemonade. The food came out within ten minutes. I had the smokey tofu tacos and I really enjoyed those. They filled me up and the tofu was fresh and organic. The lemonade was ok, but for $2 it was reasonable. I had the cajun fries with Jalapeno mayo. Only it tasted like regular mayo. But the fries were good though. They really didn't need the mayo. The salt and pepper calamari was
