Made an online booking however it didn't appear on their system, luckily for us it was pretty empty when we arrived. Beers on tap are limited which was a bit disappointing but we made do. We ordered their smoked meat platter for 2 between the 3 of us with a few sides as substitute, I'm not sure what the seafood platters were doing in an American BBQ restaurant however.
Brisket was undeniably soft and juicy but the absence of smokiness was apparent, in fact it was like that on most meats. I really enjoyed both the chicken and lamb sausages, both very meaty and went well with the accompanying sauces, especially the hot sauce. The pulled pork shoulder was equally soft and had a nice peppery seasoning to it but the real winner was the pork ribs, that dry rub on it was fantastic and the meat was very soft. My friends didn't like theirs as much citing that it was dry, they weren't too sure about the dry rub either. There were also a pair of massive chicken drumsticks for good measure, pink from the smoking process and strung away nicely.
The sides were hit and miss. The brussel sprouts with caramelised onions were more onions than sprouts unfortunately. The mushrooms with butter garlic and thyme is a predictable favourite and I was a bit impartial to the roasted potatoes, crispy skin, slightly blackened and not a buttery inside as I'd like.
For dessert we got their Meatwork's apple crumble, I found the crumble to be a bit lazy and it felt like I was having my morning museli with milk. They skipped the whole baking process to give it that crunchy crumble texture, rather we got raw museli instead.
Their strong point is definitely their smoked meats, a beer or two makes it that much more enjoyable.
Meat meat and more more, all smoked beautifully. Great variety on the menu and all the meats seem well cooked and were tasty. Special mention to the pork belly and lamb sausage but it was all good. Probably 4.5/5
Had this place on the radar for quite some time, so glad we tried it out last night for V. day! We ordered the meat platter and it was absolutely delicious. The mrs loved the pulled pork, I couldnt get enough of the ribs and brisket! would go back
Havenāt been for a while and the new menu is fantastic. The seafood share platter was tasty, especially the mussels. Our boys loved the bbq ribs. Service was excellent. Great upmarket place with a relaxed atmosphere. Will be back.
Great food and staff. Inviting atmosphere with dim lights and industrial barn-like atmosphere. Ordered the Meatworksco Smoked Meat Platter for two of us. Comes with 20 Hour Smoked Hand Torn Pork Shoulder, 24 Hour Smoked Sliced Beef Brisket, 8 Hours Smoked DRY Rub Pork Ribs, Roasted Lamb & Rosemary Sausage, Roasted Classic Pork Sausage, Smoked Chicken Drumettes, Meatworksco BBQ Sauce, Chilli Sauce and Tomato Relish. Everything was delicious but you need to eat the chicken, sausage and brisket early before it goes dry. Sauces added a nice punch and helped with dryness. Affagato and sticky date pudding for dessert, both delicious. Will come back again!
Wandering past this in the late morning, we smelt the beautiful aromas of smoked meat. Had a quick chat with the chef who told us to come back for lunch. What a good decision! I had the smoked pork hot dog with chips for $13 and it was damn tasty and Iāll definitely come back!
Pretty simple feedback to give about this restaurant. Itās got a cool modern/warehouse kinda vibe, the service is swift & casual. No frills food but the quality is certainly there. Iāve been to quite a few smoked BBQ meat restaurants and this was my favourite - no fuss, but real flavours right in front of you! The 24 hour smoked beef brisket was to die for!! The Mac & Cheese with smoked Brisket was banging - but for $13 seemed small. Fries & Asian greens were a delightful side dish to accompany the seriously tasty meat platter. No complaints really. Good meat, tasty, fast service.
If youāre not after anything super duper fancy then itās bang on!!! Yum. Small wine list but definitely enough to accompany the meat. Would go back for sure.
Iāve been here 4 times! The lamb ribs honestly deserve 5 stars because they are the best Iāve ever tried and served with a sauce that tastes like heaven!
Sadly they arenāt cooking lamb ribs for now which we found out on our last visit. Pork ribs were good but not as good as the lamb! Price is steep but worth it for the lamb ribs honestly .
Will return once lamb ribs return!

Meatworks rubs The Dear Luncher up the right way. The introduction to what Meatworks had to offer was made via their excellent platter deal. For around $60 The Dear Luncher and The Kraut Luncher were served up an array of ribs. The main beasts were represented ā lamb, pork and beef. The pork ribs were dry-rubbed and they while they were indeed dry on the outside they were creating moisture in the undergarments of one Dear Luncher due to succulent vibes they were exhibiting taste-wise. The pick of the bunch though ā the lamb ribs. Super-fatty and juicy, no sauce or garnishing required. Prepared wonderfully.
Roasted smashed baby potatoes and a salad of some sort also came with this deal. A great introduction to the cuisine on offer at this establishment.
Really cool industrial fit out.Ā Fantastic service. We had meat platter and dry rubbed pork ribs. They both were delicious.Ā It was my first time to try the dry rub style ribs and I loved it. We will be back.
Nice place and good food, pay some attention on quality i am sure you can improve.
About service, we didn't have problems but the table close to us was waiting too long their order.

Loved it here. Went twice within the week after discovering it, once for my own birthday dinner and secondly with work mates for a lunch. Both times it was brilliant. The platter was delicious (both dinner and lunch versions) and offers a great sample of all of the meats. Will be coming back again in no time.

I organised the Banquet for 10 people for a Friday work lunch. After I booked a friend had reported that the meal he had when he had been was small and over priced so I was a little worried. The place itself has an interesting warehousey vibe and the staff were friendly and attentive. The dishes came out over a well orchestrated 2 hour time frame. Even though there was really only 1 of everything for each person there was so much food that by the end we couldnāt believe how much we had actually eaten. I am not a big Rib fan but both the pork and lamb ribs were falling off the bone amazing. The thinly sliced brisket was soft and delicate. The side salad of pickled vegetable and the Asian Greens were fresh and tasty and a welcome relief from all the meat. The desert was Apple Crumble which had a wonderfully surprising smokiness and a sticky date pudding with one of the best sauces Iāve had.
I thought the banquet was priced well. Based on my experience I will definitely be back and would recommend to friends.
Really surprised how much we enjoyed ourselves tonight. Service was great, menu was explained with care. We had the shared meat platter, it was a great size for two.
Perfect place for dinner. Went for an engagement dinner with close family, waitress (Emma) was great, good atmosphere, food was perfectly cooked and presented well when served. Need more options for non alcoholic drinks, wine and cocktails were great. Staff and kitchen were very honest with letting us know our order had forgotten and went about it in the best way possible! Will bring more people back next time, booking is suggested

Now this is my kind of place and food. Cozy fire with great generous share platters of what can only be described as amazing meat. The surprise was the best chicken drumsticks I have ever had.
Smoked meats for share... š¤¤ platter of pork beef lamb and chicken... certainly a carnivores feast. And eating with your hands is a must! Top left beef brisket, lamb ribs, rocket salad, bottom left beef sausage and pulled pork. Lastly chicken leg (not in the pic)
My partner and I went to dinner here. We ordered octopus as an entree and the meat platter for two, fries and parmesan/rocket/pear salad for main. The food was a bit above average but not amazing. I feel like the flavours in the meat could have been a bit stronger, more smoky. The restaurant itself is really cool - industrial decor , good lighting . The service could have been better. When we arrived we were waiting by the door for a couple of minutes until a waiter asked us for our reservation. We were also left waiting for our desert for a while. Overall the restaurant has a really good intention and vibe. It could be amazing if it just made a few little adjustments.
What an interesting restaurant off Clarendon street in South Melbourne with an industrial feel! It was very cozy inside with a fireplace in the middle of the restaurant on a cold day and the waiting staff are so welcoming and friendly. We ordered the smoked meat platter to share ($28) for a small lunch and it was exactly what we wanted, a variety of meats e.g. smoked beef brisket, chicken drumsticks, sticky lamb ribs and pulled pork with three types of dipping sauces. The smoked beef brisket was especially delicious being wrapped in a paper bag to retain its moisture. The roasted sweet corn with parmesan and chipotle mayo ($7) was wrapped partially in the husk and its sweetness was well matched with the smoked meats. Overall, we were pleasantly surprised to find this amazing restaurant in our neighbourhood and definitely would return for dinner again.
Staff were friendly and attentive.

The meats all have their distinctive taste, with the underlying smokiness which is sweet and tantalising...

Awesome slow cooked meats and great coffee and they make their own fizzy pops which are all natural , which they have 4-5 different flavors.

The term smokehouse is the perfect description of Meatworksco. Using their 450kg in house smoker Betsy to create flavour infused, succulent lunch and brunch dishes, the South Melbourne eatery has just launched their dinner menu. The flavours on the menu are inspired by smoking methods used in Asian, European, Middle Eastern and Northern American cuisines, making their dinner offering substantial and moreish.
Loved it! Had the smoked pork burger for lunch.... food is delish! Service is good but has that new still working things out vibe. Really hope it does well!
We were invited by Meatworks to taste some of their new menu, which had been paired with Quiet Deeds beer, made in Melbourne and that Meatworks have on tap.
My favourite dish was the smoked pulled beef brisket pita wrap which paired perfectly with the Quiet Deeds Pale Ale.

First time here for lunch, the usual lamb ribs in mix meat platter were sold out and replaced with pork ribs, but god damn the pork ribs were just as good. Definitely worth dropping by, good service, good food. PS. The mix meat platter is good enough for 2 adults generally.

Gigantic signage stands out once you find Meatworks Co and actually makes what I assume is a converted former garage look quite inviting. Staying true to the building and area, the decor is predominantly industrial. Wooden seating and knick knacks indicative of an old kitchen add warmth and dim lighting as the sun goes down gives it a cosy feel. Betsy, their fondly named and hand made 450kg smoker sits in back behind glass. We arrived quite early (you try waiting 'til 8 when you've been thinking about meat all day) and were greeted by a pretty empty venue. I'd definitely recommend going a little later in the evening if you're up for atmosphere. As we were leaving a couple of hours later things were starting to liven up. Staff were attentive and polite, they know their stuff and anticipated just about everything we wanted.
The menu at Meatworks Co is interesting. If you're looking for a mixture of just heavier meats, your only real option is the $55 Red Meat tray. They've included pork as a red meat but who doesn't love pork?! The alternatives are a seafood platter or a mix of the two. It's slightly limiting if you're not here for a full meat fix, with only four other carnivorous options for 'mains'. However, if you're coming to a place called Meatworks Co, not expecting to eat a plethora of things that at one time had a face, you need to reassess some things.

I love that the drinks list stays true to the theme of the restaurant; 'Ladies who shoot their lunch' features heavily in the wines and some tasty scotches and a small assortment of beers make it up to complement the rich dishes.Ā
We started with the grilled octopus and polenta chips, both incredibly tasty. The chilli and coriander in the octopus legitimately added something to every bite, and while it's hard to screw up polenta chips these were pretty spectacular. The Red Meat tray looks deceivingly small, don't worry - you WILL NOT go hungry after eating this until at least midday the next day. Both the pork and brisket were stand outs for me. The pork belly melted in the mouth and the lamb ribs fell right off the bone. The BBQ sauce, chilli sauce and chutney were great, but whatever the chef's special sauce was 'shove your finger into the little bowl once the meat is gone and lick it all off' good. We ordered mushrooms with garlic and thyme as a side which also didn't disappoint, although we couldn't squeeze too many in. I'd highly recommend this place, especially with a group so you can sample perhaps a couple of the trays and more sides. It's not the cheapest in comparison but you definitely won't go home disappointed.
Saw this on some random TV show and popped in without a booking after a long drive from the other side of town. The decor is light and refreshing and the staff were really pleasant.
Had the meat platter and the food was fantastic. The Shiraz was a perfect accompaniment to the meats and the sausage was to DIE for. It seems a little small, but by the time you get through it, it's the perfect amount.

Popped in with my better half for a spot of lunch. Had seen reviews of this place a while back & being that we live in the area it seemed a sin that we had not checked it out before. It certainly did not disappoint.
We ordered the lunchtime sharing platter which came with lamb ribs, pork, brisket & chicken drumsticks. We were blown away by the pork, it was juicy & bursting with flavour. Not normally a massive fan of chicken on the bone but it looked very appetising with lovely smokey flavours running through.
Could not fault the meal in anyway, even the accompanying sauces complimented the meats wonderfully as did the tap pale ale & wines on offer.
The food came out very quickly, the staff were very friendly & this added to the overall feel of this place & if you are in the area I would recommend you head in & check this place out
Fantastic! We came to Meatworks Co last Wednesday night for my partners birthday with his family. I called to make a booking and received a bubbly easy going lady on the other end of the phone, and the great service continued all the way from entry to exit. The food blew us away, it was delicious and beautifully presented. We loved the vibe, interior design and music (which was a perfect volume for having a chat over dinner, not too loud but enough to get the good feels happening). Again really great food and service, glad we finally got to try this place, will be back for sure.
Food is incredible, especially loving the torn port burger! Meat platter is delicious and what a wide range of flavours! Can't say there are many places out with the genuine atmosphere they have here.
Fabulous interiors, great service and amazing food! If you like your meats, then you have come to the right place. We also had the corn and coleslaw sides which were really tasty too and a sticky date dessert also lovely. My only complaint was that there was too much food - had to be rolled out of there!

Had lunch at Meatworks last week. First tip was the name, second was the menu dominated by meat dishes - smoked, pulled brisketed meat dishes. You don't need to tell me twice - I ordered a meat dish; the torn smoked pork burger with a side of chips. The meat was cooked to perfection, bun was fresh, pickles and sauce were tasty. Well and truly good enough to get me back for more.
When you start dinner early there can be an almost eerie feeling of arriving in an empty restaurant, down a side street, in an empty area. With a tree adorned with fairy lights out the front, and bright white walls on the exterior, it is a good looking place. The friendly greeting and offer to close the windows as the night grew chilly helped the unease of being the only diners.

Even the accompanied sauces were amazing and unique.

Just had peri peri chicken burger and it's one of the best I've ever had. Demolished in like 5 minutes. I couldn't post the picture of the burger because it looked delicious and irresistible.
At Meatworks they love their meat and whether you like it slow roasted, braised or smoked, they will deliver the goods. They serve rustic home-style dishes in their South Melbourne restaurant and have an in-house wood smoker. Meat lovers ahoy! They do a smoked meat platter, they also smoke some of the vegies and do a smoked custard for dessert. Lots of deliciousness.

TL;DR: GREAT flavors, some unique dishes, great value for money, wonderful ambiance.Ā
Meatworks is a small-ish smokehouse on a quiet street in South Melbourne. If you didn't know where it was, you'd never see it. The ambiance is very light. For a Saturday night, it felt bright without being glaring. And that's a big plus to being able to appreciate the decor and its nuances.Ā
The food, though is clearly the winner. The brisket is pulled and juicy, making for a delightful dish. The Mix Platter was very well balanced with red meat, duck and seafood. And the Tomahawk rib was a whole meal by itself! And if you miss out on the lamb ribs, you have nobody to blame but yourself!
The choice of drinks is good, too. Beer on tap and in bottles, wines and organic lemonade and cola cover the gamut of choices you'd make.Ā
The staff are an absolute delight. Chef Travis personally came over to ask how the Tomahawk rib was, and the rest of the team were very pleasant and cheerful.Ā
I can only urge you to go and try it with gusto!
Meatworks have created a beautiful space, but you should really come here for the flavour. My beef shin in masterstock and rice noodles was bloody tasty, generous and very filling and warming.
Will be sure to return with a bigger group to try the smoked platter.

The menu of the South Melbourne venue features many tasty meat cuts and dishes, complemented by several additional mouthwatering sides and salads. I received an invitation to attend the launch event, which took place late last year, and I would like to thank Meatworks Co. and Harvey Publicity for the opportunity to attend.

A great fit out! It's a large and airy light filled space partitioned into smaller areas. We visited for lunch last week and it was packed with an enthusiastic crowd of all ages. There was a large communal table in the front area but also many other tables for smaller groups or couples.
There were other options besides meat and the portion sizes were very generous, more than our greedy eyes could devour.

Went here last week with my husband and had the smoked meat platter. Especially enjoyed the brisket along with the roasted corn. Can't wait to try the Vietnamese brisket baguette - I had food envy when it arrived on the table next to me!
Great meal, l loved the slow cooked & smoked meats. The space is generous with a friendly relaxed atmosphere. The staff are enthusiastic & helpful. It is tucked away down a side street off Clarendon so you will have to look for it.
Absolutely love this place. The interior is so cool. Full industrial fit out through out the shop. The food was amazing! We had our work lunch there the other day. We ordered 2 meat platters, burger, salmon salad, beef shin, mushroom side dish and some fries. All of them were supper delicious. The meats were very tender and juicy, particularly the beef brisket ( I went to few other meaty restaurants, their briskets are always dry but Meatworks ones are surprisingly tender!) we have to go back to try the Vietnamese baguette as they were sold out when we were there .... Service was lovely, friendly staffs. Will I come back? Hell yes! And I will bring my carnivore hubby!
Meatworks is a newlyĀ opened 100-seater casual canteen-styled eatery that has opened up at an old mechanicās garage in South Melbourne. The owner Lindsay Jones-Evans (Jones the Grocer, The Victorian Room), draws his business skills together with chef Travis Watson to create unique flavours inspired from the east and west to create mouth watering meaty goodness. The menu they offer is quite short but it rotates regularly. Other than the meat platter they offer Vietnamese baguettes and surprise surprise a VERY delicious tofu salad! Here is a place for all the meat lovers in Melbourne. Meatworks Co in South Melbourne is a specialty smoked, slow cooked meat paradise of goodness. A small menu consisting of a smoked meat platter, smoked brisket in a baguette, slow braised beef and a single pulled pork burger, the choice was pretty clear on what I was going to order when coming to Meatworks Co - Pulled Pork Burger it was :P
When the burger came to the table I was intrigued - it only consisted of the pulled pork and cheese and nothing else. The slaw, pickles and sauce were all sides, this meant I could construct as much or as little salad as I pleased - I also had the option to use all of the sauce on offer.
The pulled pork was soft and flavoursome, the slaw added a crunch and the chipotle mayonnaise was a nice touch. I added some extra chilli sauce which was part of the meat platter that was also ordered to our table. Adding the extra chilli to this burger gave it the kick it needed to keep the juices flowing all the way to the end.
Hubby loves meat, so we went there just before Christmas. The food was delicious. Hubby demolished a whole meat platter by himself and he absolutely loved it, the sauces were amazing too. I had a pulled pork burger, it was great. The service was lovely, I didn't really mind the canteen style. It was fun to order at the counter and get your own cutlery. We will be back!

Meatworks Co. is the long-gestating dream of owner and hospitality entrepreneur Lindsay Jones-Evans, which started with a polite interest in cooking poultry and evolved into the very meat-focused, and very wholesome, feel you see in the restaurant today.
Hmmmmm meat! And Meat just down the road, Texan BBQ style meat just down the road And with a Vietnamese twist!! Meatworks has only opened recently, after spending 18 months converting an old garage into a peaceful meat-retreat!! The fit out is lovely, white washed walls, old style wooden tables and chairs and lots of space and light. When we found out they were opening on Saturdays from December we were straight down to try some of what they describe as;
Second time at this restaurant today. Lovely service and good food. We really enjoy the lamb on fried rice which was unfortunately sold out, as well as the meat plate, corn and wedges. I would love if this place offered spirits as I don't drink wine but the Sauv Blanc is quite nice despite my preference.

Meatworks in South Melbourne has burst on to the slow cooked meats scene with a canteen style eatery opened by the man behind Jones the Grocer and The Victoria Room in Sydney, Lindsay Jones-Evans. The signage may be nondescript but this place is an eatery to be reckoned with; slow cooked meat paradise.
Delivers exactly what it promises - tasty slow cooked meats at very reasonable prices. Beautiful light-filled space, friendly staff, no fuss service approach. We had the platter which was a delicious range of meats, and the pickled salad was a great complement. Wedges were tasty but a little soggy. We'll be back!
Came here with a group of 8 a few weeks ago. Ordered the XXL Platter and Ribs. The meat was cooked very well and the ambience was great. Good for large groups in particular those who can eat a lot of protein! We ended up taking some back to the accommodation for the next few days and it still tasted great. the wedges were also tasty, thick and had a little crunch. The platter gives a great mix, but probably better to order a smaller one in the future and try some of the other items on the menu! ššš¼š

Walked in and got a seat at the long communal table with a QR code to view the menu and place an order. Had the following from the menu:
- Philly cheesesteak slider; warm toasted potato bun which was very soft. There was a lot of melted gooey cheese and the diced wagyu brisket was tender. Very tasty but needed a bit more meat.
- Small meat platter; beef brisket and pulled pork were tender but not soft and juicy. Sausages were snappy with some spice and peppery taste. Pork ribs had two bones but really only enough meat for one. Best part of the platter was the chicken drumsticks; soft and moist with a nice spicy flavour. However the pork belly was overcooked; very dry and a lot of chewing. The sauces were alright, wasn't particularly outstanding.
- Beef ribs; ordered this separately as it was not included in the meat platter. Meat was tender and fatty, very tasty with the sweet glaze.
- Fat chips; perfectly cooked with a crispy layer and packed with fluffy potato. Lightly salted and goes well with the garlic mayo dip
Overall a decent meat feast. Not sure if it's worth getting the platter as it cost similar and you might get more ordering each meat separately. Recommend the Philly cheesesteak slider if you like a lot of cheese, fat chips which were amazing, chicken drumsticks and beef ribs.

Their impeccable brisket, bold-flavoured pulled pork, ribs, chicken and and delicious sides most definitely delivered a tasty, hearty feed thatās bound to satisfy any hunger pangs. Great to see an Aussie business pumping out great American style barbecue.

Iāve been waiting for an opportunity to eat at Meatworks for a while. I finally went and ordered the platter for two. While it was a bit overpriced for the amount of food the taste made it worthwhile. The chicken was overly salty but the rest was spot on. Even the brisket was good!
Stumbled on this restaurant while walking and it was delicious! The ribs and brisket were so tender and the chicken wing was so crunchy! Very good service, friendly manager and the decor is super interesting. Can see myself coming back with a bigger group!
smokin/grill protein for meat lovers. You can tell the chef puts lots of effort to the food. There is really not much to say bout the top notch food Meatworksco serving. However I would say the following improvement should be considered:
1. It's good to have phone order and pay option, however, it would be good to have photo display for each dish on the phone menu which helps the customer decide what drinks and food they need quicker.
2.i would also love to see more port belly on the platter dishes as it is one of the underated dish on the menu.
3.maybe it's hard, but kids menu will be a good add on even just serving simple chips with grill protein.
Honestly the best and juiciest smoked beef ribs in Melbourne! So much better than anything at Meat Stock. Friendly service and relaxed vibes. New fav spot š
I rarely write reviewsā¦. But I wanted to take the time to do so because the owner was amazing and was patient and took the time to provide us amazing service! This is by far the best restaurant Iāve been to in Melbourne! The food and meat was amazing! Even the chicken tasted like smoked ham hock!
The alcoholic drinks were overly generous and environment felt so warm right down to the dining tables , which made us feel like we were at some elseās home rather than those tiny uncomfortable tables that other restaurants squish you on!
Also thank you so much for the icecream and crayons and paper for my daughter!
