Always willing to give a place a another chance I called back in to Great Space Cafe for coffee and a quick toast breakfast. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of coffee over my experience 7 months ago and the toast and jam was made with a really good sourdough. The lady behind the counter was super friendly too which makes a difference. Located between train and work I could see this place being a regular visit.

So today’s strong almond milk latte was requested at Great Space Café in Collins Place. My coffee was creamy with a smooth palate, not overly strong but enough to be able to just taste the coffee.

They have a good selection of muffins, cakes, protein balls at the front, their breakfast is excellent (Poached eggs on toast, avocado, spinach, haloumi cheese, mushrooms etc). Their ham and cheese toast is the best in Collins place and very well made (Quality cheese, beautiful sourdough and good quality ham). They also have an interesting lunch menu that I would love to try...
The coffee was amazing and food was of the high quality and tasted outstanding . Service was friendly and fast. I will be back next time.
The roasted butternut pumpkin salad with lemon chicken and pine nuts was perfect . I really like it.
Great space gets a great review when I stopped in for a coffee in the later morning before my later lunch reservation at Vue de Monde in the Rialto Towers building. The sandwiches and pastry looked nice.
A surprisingly tasty lunch. We'd planned to dine elsewhere but our first choice was closed and the food court was hectic so we ended up here. We were seated quickly, our order was taken promptly and the food arrived with minimal wait. I tried the 'Superfood salad' (& added chicken) and despite being a fussy eater (I hate too much dressing and an inappropriate balance of ingredients) I was really pleased. Simple, tasty ingredients, well combined and a decent serving size. I'd definitely try it again. My companion tried the pasta special and was equally satisfied.
The only negative I'd mention is that the servers seemed a tad disorganised. We ordered drinks when we were seated & were provided with menus so all good there. However, we were then approached by another server asking for our order within seconds. We requested more time but within another minute another server asked us the same thing. I'll put it down to eager staff (& I guess it's helpful if you're in a hurry) but know this can irritate some people so mention it for completeness.
EDIT: I returned a few weeks later & tried the same meal again & it was of a much lower standard. In particular, the sweet potato was quite crisp & undercooked. Again, my dining companion was very satisfied with their meal (this time a chicken burger) but it would be fair to say the meals are of inconsistent quality depending on the day/chef!
For a city food court cafe, I find this place reasonable. Service is cheerful however not overly attentive. I have had the chicken satay wrap and chips here a couple of times and it makes a good lunch. Very spacious seating which allows you to relax. Coffee here isn't bad either and is my no2 coffee spot when I can't be bothered walking to my preferred coffee vendor.
Great coffee depending on who makes the coffee. The best coffee ive had here is hot and velvety smooth. Price is within range of the area. However, the service is rather inconsistent. From having a very friendly staff to greet me one morning to being told that my name is too long for the coffee order another morning and then to have to wait there for about 5mins without even an acknowledgement that i was there from any of the staff.
My morning joint for a fix. Since, I Have been going here for a few years they know me and vice versa so I am a bit more tolerant. I do, however, empathise with the frustrations in some of the reviews.
The service staff are all constantly changing students and back packers which means service quality is a roller coaster, ranging from superb when the Ad-hoc team gel to confusion and disarray when the team is new or grumpy with each other.
They do the sourdough with avocado, fetta and chilli with poached eggs and toasted sourdough with butter very well. Coffee is good but there are better places around.
Good cafe. Good basic menu with great daily specials. All-day breakfast is my favourite thing! Some of the staff are a bit ditsy but the manager is great.
Coffee. Nice tasting coffee here, comes with a smile :)
Service excellent. Coffee superb. Toast to die for. I'll be back v soon.
At first I was a bit put off by the sterile setting and atmosphere of this place, and a few of the key specials were not available. Also, the menu has been reduced somewhat since the menu photos were taken, and a lot of the more adventurous options are no longer available. Neither is the Bircher muesli. We decided to stay anyway and were glad that we did. The coffee is excellent, being beautifully nutty and creamy, and the avocado on toast was great. They were generous with the avocado, the egg was poached perfectly and the sourdough was nice and crispy. Hard to cut though! We would definitely recommend this place if you were in the area. Nice to not be patronised by hipsters too!
Had the big breakfast good size serve tastes great & certainly value for money. Latte was ok but tasted a little burnt when consumed but would return for sure.
I have been a regular here for the last 4 years. I get long black coffees so I can really taste a good coffee and the team at Great Space do a consistently good job.
The staff are extremely friendly and will go that little bit extra for us regulars.
I've had one of the staff come up and take my keep cup if these's a long queue so that they can make the coffee while I'm waiting.
I was even allowed to stay and get my coffee when they ran a fire drill in the whole of the Great Space.
Over the years I've seen staff come and go as many of them are on working holidays, but the vibe of the place has remained constantly friendly. I'm sure this is because Tina and Zac as the managers really look after their people.
Great food, great coffee (these people actually know how to make a cappuccino, with heaps of froth!) and excellent service by the manager and owners. Also environmentally aware and
practice sustainability. Highly recommended!
Nice little cafe in Collins Place renowned for it’s great coffee, quick, and friendly service
