Review Michelino's Trattoria - Melbourne

Cristian Gruber
Poor experience. Ordered a Seafood Marinara pizza and was given an oily cheesy base with strips of squid in it and some oregano. There was one small scallop in it too. I kindly asked the waitress to explain where the prawns, garlic and other seafood is. After consulting with the manager, she returned to advise me their Seafood Marinara does not include prawns and other seafood!! (contrary to what their menu shows) I didn’t want to make a big deal out of it, so I paid my bill and left. Will NOT return there again!

We dropped in for coffee and cake, we found a little treasure. The coffee, aromatic and creamy, so enjoyable that I ordered another, one was not enough. The cakes a good variety from cheese cakes, sticky date pudding to fresh berry crepes. We chose 2 different cheesecakes and were not disappointed there either. We shall return for dinner shortly and try the wood fire pizzas, at least the coffee is good.

We have tried Michelino's several times over the past 6 months and have not been disappointed once. Great wood-fired pizza, really good pasta and excellent seafood and beef. The staff have been consistently attentive and happy We have put it high on our regular 'go to' list. Great food, modest cost and happy staff !!!

We ordered wood fired pizzas, absolutely delicious! There was a slight delay with mine, which really didn't bother me, but they sent us a garlic bread on the house too!! Very impressed!

Good setting, well isolated from the busy Lygon street. The risotto is fantastic. The pasta is very good. Service was pretty good. The best part was their pizza as a starter, omg it was delicious! Would definitely recommend this to couples!

Went for dinner on Thursday night with 5 friends. Had the seafood platter deal. The food was ordinary at best and the service below standard. For dessert we had sticky date pudding without the sauce, my terimisu came out in two pieces , looked as if it was tossed on the plate.

It's a shame as this is our local. Went their with my family and ordered a few pizzas. All came out apart from mine. Waited 15 minutes patently until my wife finished her pizza thinking that it's just taking a little longer. The waiter walked past a smiled a few times. When asking she didn't recall the pizza I ordered (we were the only ones in the whole place). When she asked the cook she came back and said that she thought it was take away!! I'm sitting in their restaurant whilst my family was eating and she thought it was take away? Came out old and still had to pay for it.

An awesome feed with great service. We had a few disappointments along lygon street with few busy restaurants and the food and service were unimaginably bad. Till we booked for a Saturday night last week at michelinos and had the best experience. Their marinara pasta A1 with delicious ingredients whereas in other places I saw tasteless crushed tomatos from cans in pasta. Thanks to the manager a great person and aidin their awesome helper. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Was in the mood for steak and veg without the price tag and came across this place down one of the side streets of lygon st. Didn't really eat Italian but the steak and shanks were very good and tasty and very well priced. Also ordered an antipasto for 2 which had fresh deli meats overall our experience was not too bad.

Came here for dinner celebrating a friends birthday. I have been to quite a few other restaurants in Carlton/ Lygon Street, and have my preferences over which ones I prefer for certain types of meals, whether pizza or pasta some restaurants just do it better than others. This restaurant wasn't on my list or radar at all and probably wouldn't have come here if my friend hadn't organised his birthday dinner here. Because admittedly, I did read the reviews once we had been informed about which restaurant we would be dining at to celebrate my friends birthday... and I was definitely not really feeling too keen on dining there. The menu is pretty generic in terms of what's on offer, but very big, big variety, but I don't think that seems to work in their favour.. as, scrolling through people's comments, they were all pretty similar in their opinions about their dining experience and can understand where they are coming from as I felt very much the same experience dining here. Whilst I can understand the need to fit in with the other eateries in the neighbourhood, and the need to remain as a part of the competition, in terms of Italian restaurants in lygon street and Carlton, the list is endlesss... but at the same time, when there are meals that a restaurant knows they don't do well, based on popular opinion, maybe it would be best not to serve them, or make something improvements so that you don't have the opportunity to be criticised so negatively. The service is really slow, almost two hours before meals came out, arrived at 7.30 and meals didn't come until well after 9.30, nor did were we acknowledged or able to order drinks for at least 1 hour... feel sorry for the staff but other reviewers already picked up on this and still it continues. Really disappointing because this restaurant has a lot of potential. Food was really inconsistent.. some pizzas came without the correct toppings and was all over the place in terms of everyone getting their meal at the same time.. people were finishing whilst others sat there awkwardly awaiting the arrival of their food.. What I can comment on in a positive light is the prices, and the pizzas, as food is pretty affordable but really nothing fancy or anything I would really be wanting to try again especially after we had to wait so long... Really ruined the mood and dining experience.

Family (Italian) and I took the Nonni for a Sunday lunch to Lygon street. Found this place on the internet. Shared the starters - Calamari, antipasto platter and some dips. They were all fine. For mains, some ordered pizza, which were fine, some had pastas which were OK. I ordered handmade gnocchi with amatriciana sauce. Firstly, it was out of a packet and not very nice, second it said it was made out of panchetta, but they used bacon and thirdly, it has chilli in it but the used so much chilli, which I am used to, that it has actually left my mouth tender only having eaten 4 gnocchi. Won't be going back and will not recommend this place.

A couple of months ago I purchased a Scoopon for $100 worth of food and drink for $50 at Michelino’s Trattoria. My husband loves Italian and I thought that it would be a great new place to try. When we walked in the restaurant had an older feel about it. The decor was aged but in good condition. We were greeted by a lovely waitress and shown to a table by the window. Just off of Lygon st this was the perfect table as we watched the world pass us by.

Bought a coupon for the family and enjoying a beautiful and hearty lunch. The food is delicious and good size servings. The house wine is OK and the service is very good. The strawberry crepes came with a syrup that tasted OK but not fantastic. Overall, very good value and family friendly.

One of the worse food that ive eaten on Melbourne, ordered many different things, only pesto foccacia was not bad, and its not even the shape of foccacia but pizza.<br/>Chicken involtini was bland and the grill mark on the chicken was bitter, spicy prawn and rice was bad, taste like canned tomato, porterhouse ordered medium, came out well done, caesar salad the dressing was not original, dont know what they put in there and the egg was almost hard boiled as the yellow wasnt running at all and the anchovies was 1 whole big piece, as if they wanna make u choke. Pizza michellino that supposed to be their special, was just okay, nothing special, pasta with smoked salmon was bland and the smoked salmon taste so weird, i refused to eat anymore. Service was awkward, but definitely understaff. Lucky if this restaurant can survive another year.

If I could rate zero I'd do so. The most awful place I've ever been to. The whole shop was left only with one waitress that obviously had zero experience in this industry. Despite her not being sure of what we were ordering the food was disgusting. Undercooked chicken breast with what was supposed to be mushroom and cream sauce but the sauce tasted bitters. Ice cold vegetables on the side and mash potatoes that had no salt at all. Not to mention the food of others in the table. Do not waste your time and money. I was soo nervous it just ruined our night. We were so looking forward to the dinner. Such a shame. Won't ever be back or recommend it to anyone.

We loved this restaurant as the food was delicious and the service was very friendly and fast. The Groupon voucher we had was amazing value. We were happily surprised with the whole thing, so much so that we left a decent tip. A very worthwhile experience.

Last night was one of the best dinner i had in melbourne, food was delicious and well presented. Staff was very polite and helpful, will come again and again.

We had dinner here on Sunday night and it was very nice. A 3 course meal which included chilli prawns and pasta was very tasty and the staff were very welcoming.

I don't have an issue with "run-down" or rustic looking restaurant, I actually love it, however it needs more lights ...... so we all can appreciate the history.<br/><br/>Throughout the evening; pleasant and great service from the floor staff, well done and thank you.<br/><br/>On the food side, disappointing $96.00 Seafood Platter for two in terms of taste and size.<br/><br/>Good wines though ....<br/><br/>Trust you can do better .....

Unfortunately our recent visit for dinner was disappointing. We shared the tasting platter which was honestly very nice.  My friend ordered garlic prawns for main which were "Ok", I ordered lamb shanks with mash potato and veg.... and it went seriously downhill from there!  Expecting meat falling off the shank bone, instead the meat was like a tough rubber ball intent on hanging onto the bone for grim life!!! The shank could not be cut with a regular knife, a passing waiter obviously saw the struggle and instead of recognising the dish was clearly not right came to the table with a steak knife!!  The meat still could not be cut easily with a steak knife!  It was mentioned to the waiter that lamb shank meat should fall off the bone, his response was basically to shrug his shoulders! After eating the grainy mash, broccoli and carrots, the waiter cleared the plate with intact lamb shanks and was told the shanks were inedible...... still nothing was done! What the??? We ordered sweets, unfortunately they were not a lot better.  The tiramisu would have been lovely if it were not ruined by chocolate topping spread through it or the artificial strawberry coulis (cheap incredibly sweet strawberry topping with an overwhelming sickly sweet smell that smacked you in the nose) beneath it.  Unfortunately the strawberry crepes were also ruined completely by this same, intensely artificial topping..... my friend who is sweet mad and looks at the dessert menu before anything else could not eat it- for her this is unheard of!!! It was simply that bad!  We would not be inclined to go back unless we had heard this place had improved greatly, our experience sadly was incredibly disappointing.
Kimmy_desu
The seafood platter was nice and we saw quite a few tables also having the same seafood platter on a voucher. My favourite was the mussels with diced tomato on a bed of saffron rice. Only downside was that there could've been more items, such as fish, bigger prawns or maybe even a bug tail or something. I wouldn't be too happy paying original price for what we got, considering half of the platter was just mussels, rice and green salad.

Went for a dinner with my girl ,and ,never again. This is a really bad place to go for a dinner. Very disappointed. Don't waste your Money here

Been going here over 15 years and food is always great and service is amazing. <br/>Great for families or just 2 people. Always great specials to choose from
MK
The staff was so horrible!<br/>I tried to book this restaurant for couple of month. Every time I called, I was asked if I have a voucher and as soon as I said yes, staff manner changes and always booked out. Bad customer service and food was not as good as expected. I would never go back again. Unpleasant restaurant.

Attended on a Groupon Deal, disappointed to be told advertised meals were not available! Was looking forward to the eye fillet and chocolate fondant, of course. However, found the three entrees we tried to be excellent! No fault either with mains or deserts. Providing the advertised deals would have got this place an excellent score!

Were looking forward to a great night out service was good food tasty but when we ordered 2xplatters for 4 people the good point is they came out set up as 2 person platters.<br/>Now the downside... platters were well undersized for what we paid. My guests including myself left hungary or had to loads of extras like, spending $600+ on the night.<br/>1 guest an i ordered a 2x person platter and it more like a generous entree, let alone expected to fill 2 people.<br/>No prawns scallops calamari bugs etc to be seen. Other patrons were served generous platters and i doubt they spent anywhere near what we did as a group. I dont drink nor did one other guest so the wine was if no use to me personally.<br/>Prior notice for food allergy with No follow up, would have capped the might off landing in hospital.<br/>Its not unusual for me to spend $100 on a good quality meal and up to $400 at the lobster cave (yes the same) which resulted in us leaving a sour note and vowing never to return again, even cancelled another night 2 weeks later ans went elsewhere. <br/>All o can recommend is this restaurant better lift its game sooner than later or they wont survive.<br/>Oh bye the way the large table was badly in need of resealing and fixing. I think there were a few incidence where food almost got flung across the room because the top was loose, broken or whatever.<br/>We dont recommend this restaurant, I'd be surprised if its still there in a years time or if it hasnt changed hands<br/><br/><br/>
ReadySteadyEat
We had a lovely night here on Friday. I used a Groupon voucher for myself and one of my friends, and had the seafood platter. It was very tasty and great value. It was also nice to see that a proper wood fire oven was offered, and although we never ate the pizzas, they did look delicious!<br/>Only reason I didn't rate it higher was because of the original price of the food. I don't think i would have felt such great value for paying their prices.
Nick The Greek
Came with a voucher after reading various positive posts , I believe it has recently changed hands. Service staff while pleasant lacked experience, the house red was reasonable. Good Bruschetta and the platter was acceptable. Better options out there. A bit underwhelmed!

Thoroughly enjoyed my Peperanato and my buddies enjoyed their pizzas as well. <br/>Best quality pizza I have had in a long time! I highly recommend! <br/><br/>Great restaurant! Sophia is a superbabe!

Just off the regular Lygon thoroughfare - Mediterranean cuisine - regular Italian fare and a wood fired pizza oven. Friendly service and cuchina povera fare at not so povera $ :) extremely large portions and a great desert selection. Pretty popular local venue.

Pleasant service, pleasant food. Beware the Matricana pasta. Nice but very spicy. Just been to Thailand and the heat compares to some of the Thai street food!
Nelly
The Pasta is aldente and if you order something with chilli you will definitely get a chilli kick. I ordered matricana, this had a little too much chilli for me. Hard to finish unfortunately. Oh and Just in case your wondering I love chilli so that says something.<br/><br/>Staff were lovely. Children menu basic but yummy, with good portion sizes. Nice family restaurant
Amy
Food was horrible. Pasta was tasteless. Service was extremely sloppy. Numerous staff there kept getting orders for us and other tables wrong by serving the wrong dishes/drinks to wrong people multiple times, also printed the wrong cheque for us which was a cheque for another table. Never going back there again. Don't waste your time and money there.
Me And My Belly
Not through lack of trying!. This is by far the worst experience I've had for a long time and I hope to not have to have another one again.<br/>Its a generic Italian restaurant not braking any boundaries, which has its place.<br/>The service however was so disjointed, too many staff obviously compensating for the lack of English skills.<br/>Our order was taken and then another wait staff returned to say it wasn't possible as the spatchcock was still frozen, I ordered something else. Food arrived, drinks arrived, my dining companions was food was Luke warm at best, no mean feat considering it was a crispy skin salmon, mine was piping hot, too hot to eat straight away.<br/>The table next to us had 2 different wait staff ask if their meals (they had pizza) were ok.<br/>We had to chase someone down to get attention!<br/>Upon paying, the only wait staff that helped us was very apologetic. Why was the only decent English speaking wait staff rostered on to start so late, clearing up everyone else's mess<br/> Such a shame, she is much to good for them.<br/>However we were charged for the meal that we were told was still frozen, having to return to get this rectified.<br/>Unfortunate, but if you must go, the pizzas looked ok and came out together, surely you can't mess up that!

Dissapointing for a 80% resturant. Food came at different times, service was very poor wouldn't recommend or go back

Awesome Pizza and focaccia ever. One of the best located place for italian couisine on lygon street, good range of menu<br/>Nice and crispy base with loads of topping and quality cheese, seems like they use real authentic (italian) ingredients.<br/>excellent staff, quick service good hospitality<br/>Highly recommended

Great resto. Went there for the first time, the place was quite busy but service was still great. <br/>Not to mention excellent food.

After all that, I could not help to long for another plate of that wondrous gnocchi, but time had run short for the night and I was already beginning to yawn with fatigue. Ah well, perhaps at another time will I get to taste another special wonder at Michelinos.

Average at best. Soggy piz.... Average at best. <br/>Soggy pizza (margherita). Soggy oily parma. Pizza arrived at table 10mins before Parma. Way overpriced. <br/>Will not return. Do not recommend. #youwinsomeyoulosesome

If you look at the original menu photos posted by diners and compare them to what is served now, very different. Serving sizes are smaller and you get less and less for your money, all to cut costs, you can see it in the food over the years.<br/><br/><br/>-----08 Nov, 2014-----<br/><br/>What happened?
Jess
My friends enjoyed their meals I didn't really like the place, nothing special food is pretty standard and burnt, I'm not clear on if I just don't really care for Italian food or if the food was just plain and by plain I mean I can do better at home, but nice if your ok with that but I like better food, try nats place in bundoora they just take forever to deliver but very worth it
Rida.hazim
Great service!!. Had my sisters birthday dinner here last night and the service was amazing! The wait staff were very kind accomodating to everyone's orders and dimmed the restaurant lights when the birthday cake was brought out. also, the chilli prawns are to die for

This restaurant is located off Lygon st which doesn't attract passer bys but my husband and I decided to take a chance and try. I was surprised by the Spaghetti Pascatore and pizza. It was so yummy and good price as well. One of the best seafood pasta I had! We went back there 3 times in 2 weeks because I couldn't resist the pasta. And my husband also loved the pizza! Great value and delicious!!!<br/><br/><br/>-----22 Jun, 2014-----<br/><br/>Great food off Lygon st

Wow....thats what you call a dining experience.. I just had a late lunch at Michelinos with my wife. This is the first time i have been here.<br/>The staff were amazing attending to our every needs,<br/>The food sensational. We started off with a delicious wood fire pizza. I have heard that they are devine and indeed they are.<br/>Our mains were the lamb rack special and a porterhouse steak.. I did not stop saying to my wife with every bite how the steak just melts in my mouth. simply sensational.<br/>Desert was their home made tiramusu...Tasted even better than my grandmas and i thought that she made the best.<br/>very reasonably priced for what we ate. we will definantly be back,

What would I like to say about Michelinos Trattoria?... Well, I've just left with my partner and we were both disappointed by a few things:<br/>1. No table service.<br/>2. Poor customer service. No glass refills. Long wait to order. Staff not wanting to be there.<br/>3. Hair/fur in feta cheese in entree<br/>4. Two bathrooms with lines at 10.30pm<br/>5. Nothing special about the pasta whatsoever. Taste like store bought pasta.<br/>6. Didn't care for my birthday when mentioned prior to entering, whilst every other restaurant offered something complimentary.. Thought we'd give them a shot due to trickier location in comparison to lygon facing competitors (+ because of the rating).<br/><br/>Only positive was that we both left feeling full due to serving size of meat entree.
PHB
I'm not sure how they stay open.. 90 min wait and an overly salty lasagne. staff don't care what the customer wants - lousy service.<br/>won't be coming back.

Dinner sat nite with a group of 6. Service was switched on. Dishes were very good, pizza was ok. Overall on the pricey side. <br/>Recommend

Seafood platter. We went with a voucher of seafood platter, wine and dessert. We were sit and wine was served, waited half an hour still no food, asked the waitress and replied "food is on the way", we could see that there were not many people waiting for their food, and seafood platter should not involve lots of cooking. Waited another 20 minutes, finally the platter was served. Oysters & crab were fresh and nice, prawns and scallops skewers were a bit overcooked, mussels were nicely cooked and flavorsome, but they were sitting on a bed of white steam rice which was a bit odd, later we found out that the sauce from mussels mixed in rice was not a bad idea, without these rice, we would be still very hungry after seafood platter, so this was the way that restaurant full up customers' stomach. Not sure if it was a mistake or not, we only got a small piece of fish not two pieces, we we had one bit each person. This platter is a small serve for a couple to have as main meal. Contrary the desserts were on a large serve, but just basic sticky date and cheese cake, a bit disappointed.<br/>This dinner without voucher will cost us much more money but the quality and quantity is not really special, we probably won't come again.

Great take away wood fired pizza! overly friendly boss though.

A large group of us went here for my birthday celebration.. We had a terrific night. The service was absolutely brilliant. All the staff were super friendly. The food was quality and inexpensive. The pizzas were really well made. I had a lovely chick salad. And the chicken was smokey grilled and tasted amazing. At the end of the evening they brought out several beautiful complementary desserts for the table as well as this awesome cocktail for the birthday girl(!!)<br/>We loved this place!!
Tasty
DELICIOUS Italian food. I had the lamb shanks which was excellent. My wife had the linguine carbonara which was outstanding. We had shared dessert " chocolate fondue" after a huge meal which was SPECTACULAR and our waitress jess could not have been nicer. What a welcoming place for dinner. Easy to see why this is a Carlton institution, everything was just perfect from A-Z . Strongly recommended

Appalled - Never again!!!!!!!!. 4 of us set out for dinner on Saturday night (26 Oct 2013) and had heard about Michelino's Trattoria in Pelham street Carlton and thought we would give it a go as it was off the main drag away from the hustle and bustle of Lygon street. We were greeted by a friendly waiter who allowed us to sit outside as we had requested and he promplty returned with menus for all of us and took our meals and drinks orders...........that is where the good service started and finished. It was about 20 minutes before we saw our drinks orders and probably another 20 minutes before we saw our entree which was nothing more than a garlic bread pizza. Having now been seated for approximately 45 minutes the waiter came up to us and apologised for the delay in our meals as the Pizza Oven had been backed up with orders and that he would provide a free round of drinks for which we grateful. Strnage comment about the Pizza Oven as we had all ordered pasta. The free round of drinks never arrived.........nor did the bottle of water and 4 glasses that I had aksed for 1/2 an hour earlier. After 1.5 hours had passed I had finally had enough and called the waiter whilst pointing to my watch saying "what is going on with our meals" as at this time the restaurant was starting to empty and people who had been seated after us had clearly been given their mains and were moving onto dessert. Immediately a response from the waiting staff was recieved and our meals would be arriving shortly. The first 2 meals that came out were a Carbonara and a Ravioli. The problem with the Carbonara was that I had specifically asked for Fettucini and surprisingly was presented with Spaghetti. The Carbonara sauce tasted more like a cheese Marcaroni sauce from a packet you would buy from Coles and was chalky and inedible, the spaghetti was undercooked and the Ravioli would have been put to better use as a support to our rocking table. At this point we had had enough and informed the staff to not bother with remaining 2 meals and with all things considered we were not paying for anything that we had ordered or had. The only consulation in all of this is that the waiting staff could not and did not try to defend what had happened this night and let us go with no issues of payment. This is singularly the worst dining experience in my life and will be one that all of us will not be forgetting quickly. If anyone is contemplating this restaurant - ENTER AT YOUR OWN PERIL - you've been warned.
Gangster.Food.Lover
What to say! A beautiful warm atmosphere, the house wine isnt too bad, service was okay, the fish was superbe! But the first thing that would come in mind thinking abt this place is the wonderful smile of the pizza maker. Hey handsome! you and me, its whenever wherever! I would be back!!
Spice Of Life
Nice experience. Went on a voucher on frid night for seafood platter and dessert and wine.<br/>Service friendly and prompt clean up which was great as hands were messy with picking at the yummy crab.<br/><br/>There were quite a few unopened mussels (about 5) and a little disappointing they weren't replaced but included to add volume to the platter. However, those that were opened were lovely.<br/><br/>Oysters Kilpatrick were a little overcooked. And so were the scallops on the prawn and scallop skewers. The bed of tomato and herb risotto helped absorb the lovely juices.<br/><br/>Dessert was average though. Sticky pudding was a sticky pudding cake as they were rectangle slices rather than domed puddings. A little dry and too dense. Crepes were a little thick and chewy rather than soft and light.<br/><br/>House Shiraz was nice.<br/><br/>Waitresses were friendly but it was a little disconcerting to have them standing quite close. Felt like we were being watched.<br/><br/> Overall a nice experience. <br/><br/>Note: only one toilet each for men and women for about 60 guests (if full). Hod that bladder if there s a queue.

Thanks for a great experience

FINALLY - Great Italian food in Carlton...not another lazy Italian Restaurant relying on its location.. This is our 4th time here...each time trying something different. We originally went there on a voucher - but have become regulars due to delicious food and great service. We are so over the Overpriced, Boring, Lazy Italian Restuarants in Carlton that simply get by on the fact they have been at their Carlton address for 40 years...sucking in tourists. Slightly off Lygon Street, Michelino's consistantly delivers delicious and great value meals.<br/><br/>This time we went early for NYE dinner. We started with a lovely cheese and garlic pizza...perfection. For mains we had spagetti marinara and fettucine calabrese (bolognaise, salami and chilli). Both mains were pretty big serves (we finished them though...too delicious to leave) and the pasta and ingredients were fresh.<br/><br/>Last time we tried the amazing woodfire pizza's. Now the dilema - what to have next time...pizza or Pasta.<br/><br/>We have always experienced friendly and efficient service and last night was no exception. It's also nice that here they have no annoying tout out the front trying to suck unsuspecting tourists in for boring pricey 40 year old recipes.<br/><br/>Well done guys....AGAIN.

Simply .... Just Brilliant!. We organised our Christmas Party there this year. My PA come to me in November and said she went to a restaurant called Michelino's and was blown away by the food and service. She said we should change our Christmas Party venue this year and go to this place. Who am l to argue. And so we did. <br/><br/>We all arrived to a little slice of Italy heaven. Wonderful service, comfortable place with beautiful hand painted pictures of Italian icons. Then the food arrived. And simply said ..... just brilliant!!!!!! <br/>Starters consisted of some wood fired pizzas (best l've ever tried), and calamari (that were so soft and flavoursome). Seconds where a mixtures of pastas and risottos. The marinara was the real stuff - fresh fresh fresh to die for. Duck risotto on their specials was mouth watering. Mains were a combination of fish and meat. I had the eye fillet cooked to perfection best tasting l have had. Some of the others had Salmon and they still talk about it. Mixed grill was also a winner. All in all, very well worth the visit will definately be back. Probably the best in Carlton l'id say. Probably one of the better in Melbourne as well.
Paul
Highly Recommend. Great pizzas, great service, great atmosphere. I highly recommend.
Clare
A Must Visit!. Very friendly staff, terrific service, warm environment and delicious food (the bruschetta pizza is a must!). Highly recommend!!
Brando The Pig
Gnocchi was tough, risotto was average, pizza was fairly bland. Bruschetta was the best of the worst. Room for improvement, especially being in Carlton
Ben Brady
My wife and I went here after reading other reviews and I must say we weren't disappointed. The staff were polite, courteous and responsive (even though it was really busy) and the atmosphere was really nice. We had the Bruschetta for our starter and being wood fired it tasted amazing and the fresh tomatoes and herbs were delicious. I had the Lasagna for my main and it was packed full of flavour and melted in my mouth. My wife had the Pollo Risotto and considered it the best she has ever had. Highly recommended!
AJ
Michelino's trattoria. Service ordinary to say the least. Had to wait forever. Risotto was virtually inedible. Dined there after a long absence. Will not return.
Zuz
Great food especially their mouth watering wood fire pizzas, good and friendly service, owners are always at the restaurant greeting and chatting away to their customers. The restaurant has a cozy and a romantic atmosphere! Feels like your in little Italy with their very creative feature paintings on the wall. We go their with friends and just my partner all the time. Highly recommend.

Nope. Not again. The resta.... Nope. Not again. <br/>The restaurant is not great. Extremely friendly and anxious staff. Within 15min of sitting down we were asked if we were ready to order/drinks etc.. By every wait staff that was on that night, including the boss who asked if we wanted to order our meals despite the fact we had drinks and no menus. <br/>Now, the food... My partner ordered the chicken involtini, he had what looked like a nice meal in front of him, though the chicken was under cooked though he still ate it. I had the marinara. I am a hater of onion and garlic. I requested no garlic as the menu had it in the ingredients, whilst there was a generous serving of seafood, there was also a very generous serving of barely cooked brown onion. Not very nice. Ruined my meal. The owner came to take my plate & asked how the meal was, because he was in charge I told him my problem and he did offer us tea/coffee which was lovely. <br/>Positives: great friendly staff<br/>Wonderful wood fired pizza<br/>Negative: undercooked mains<br/>Way too much onion.

Kudos!. Used our cudo voucher for the seafood platter and desserts. Very pleasant surprise. particularly love the calamari and the fish. The chili paste is so good (we luv spicy). Everyone's happy with the desserts, my fav is the dates pudding. <br/>Service is Very Good too!

Absolutely fantastic!!!. Food was so amazing at this place. We had never been there before and were just driving past it to eat out somewhere on Lygon Street. IT WAS SO WORTH IT!! The food and service were both so great. Every meal at Michelino’s was fantastic. Between all 6 of us, we ordered salad, pizza, 3 pastas, bread, drinks and starters and only came up to around $150, I was so surprised. For such a good meal it was a great price, so much better than anything I’ve been to on Lygon Street!.<br/>For any function I’m having next, I will definitely be having it at Michelino's.<br/>With a really long big table through the middle and booth tables on the sides with pillows! (so comfortable) it doesn’t matter if you have a big function or dinner for two :)

Warm Port in a storm. I braved the cold last night and found refuge at Michelino's. What a fantastic meal we had. The Rockling and Chilli Pizza was to die for. And for pasta I chose something boring i.e. Salmon and avocado. But it wasn't boring, it was magnificent. Can't wait for another crack at that pizza.

The best Italian restaurant in the area perhaps? I took 15 work colleagues here for dinner in March, picked it via online reviews, and it was a fantastic night. The food was superb. It was a little slow however but nothing to get upset about. I really enjoyed my experience with this place, so much so that I'm going back next weekend with some friends.

Great staff, service and food. We used our CUDO voucher so weren't sure what to expect. Had the seafood platter which was very good. The staff were very welcoming and provided excellent service. We will definitely come back.

Beautiful food and amazing service, One of the best pizzas I've ever had. You can't beat the woodfired pizzas and flavourful and sizeable pastas available at this restaurant. I highly recommend trying this restaurant if you are ever in the area. On my next trip down from the Gold Coast I will definately be visiting this establishment again.

Very impressed. I dined with my husband and two children at Michelino's tonight. The food was fantastic (loved the spicy chilli prawns!) and the service was by far the friendliest we have encountered in quite some time. The most impressive thing for me was the fact that we were looked after by so many people and so willingly. Nothing was a problem and the staff made us feel as if we were the most important people in the restaurant. We left the restaurant incredibly relaxed and satisfied.

Excellent food and service. Freshest and tastiest spagetti marinara, perfectly cooked rissotto which ozzes flavour, and good pizza. A good reason to go to Carlton for Italian, and also no sleeze bag at the door trying to drag you in.

Great staff, amazing food!!. My fiance' and i went to Michelinos for his birthday dinner on wednesday night for the first time. From the moment we walked in the staff were super friendly and we were seated promply in a booth seat. We had purchased a deal from the cudo website that included a seafood platter for two(amazing), a bottle of wine and two desserts- it was fantastic value! As for the food, we ordered a starter of foccacia bread and dips to start the evening off and were not dissapointed. Everything about our experience was first class, the food was fresh, full of flavour and presented beautifully- compliments to the great chef! The staff were helpful in reccomending wine to accompany our meal, and they also checked everything was okay throughout our meal, without being overbearing or hovering around! A really lovley evening out, and a great resturant. We will be back in the future.

This is how Lygon St used to be before it sold its soul. Classic Italian dishes of high quality. I have too many favourites to mention but will recommend the Spaghetti Cozze with a glass of white wine.

Great palce. This has become one of only 2 placesin Melbourne that I would confidently recommend to friends for somewhere to have a decent meal. The food is always delicious, the service has been good and the atmosphere is pleasant.<br/>100% better than most places on Lygon St and only a tad dearer - you get what you pay for.

Food took extremely long time, taste was ok. Restaurant did not seem to cope when it started getting busy: food took over 50 mins to arrive, taste was okay (if it were fabulous, we might reconsider). Waitress gave us complimentary post-dinner spirits to make up for it ("don't tell my bosses") - a decent gesture.
