This restaurant and lounge bar has a casual style yet with an elegant decor celebrating the building's late 19th century Gold Rush Era railway heritage. It's open daily for breakfast and serves healthy options ranging from fresh, seasonal fruit and berries with Greek yoghurt to a big breakfast including two eggs on sourdough toast with bacon, sautéed mushrooms, home-style baked beans, roasted tomatoes and lemon spinach.
The bar serves beers and wines, cocktails with Happy Hour between 5 and 7pm.

Gastrology recently joined The Grand Hotel Melbourne for their recent series of delicious literary evenings. . We enjoyed Champagne and a 4-course menu while listening to tales of creativity, inspiration and success from Australian author, Robyn Annear. It was a night of indulgence for all the senses within the unique ambience of The Grand Hotel Melbourne's historic building over a creative menu of fresh, local produce.

Not the first time I've been here, won't be the last.

It's a great hotel.

The RAB is fairly small, the occasional rumble of a train passing eludes to it's rich history.

The menu is limited, but everything on it is done well.

The wine list is reasonable, the beer selection better than average, but all in bottles (nothing on draught here).

The service is rapid and the staff are excellent.

I had the antipasto plate this evening, delicious as it looks.

Went to RAB Lounge without an idea of what it's like. Amazing. The restaurant has a very relaxing atmosphere. The service was exceptional from the hostesses. And don't even get me started on the meal. Food was exquisite. Absolutely beautiful. Presented in a fantastic way and tasted wonderful. The quality of food was incredible whilst still receiving a generous serve, easily enough to fulfil an 80 kilo man. All this and it is all well priced with mains from $20 to $40. Definitely recommending to anyone. And no doubt going back in the future.

Lunch review. I ate several times at the RAB Lounge and the food is always fresh, service is quick and waitstaff is friendly! The atmosphere is nice and relaxed, but you can also enjoy some live jazz on friday and saturday nights, with great deals for cocktails. I highly recommend the fresh gnocchi and as in desserts the panna cotta is a must. All their desserts are presented with attention for details and for $3 extra you also get a matching mini cocktail... simply great idea!

Crackin Breakfast!. I met a work colleague here for breakfast, very handy to Southern Cross Station and a magnificent historic building.
Liked the options for a table or lounge to eat at, set up well with a fresh apple to greet you as you sit down. Menu's a good size with yummy options, I had the porridge with quince which was great, very nutty and decent serve. The presentation is very modern, servied on a wooden board & little glass milk carafe, liked it a lot!
Coffee was spot on, I could have had another and another.
Doesn't feel like you're in a hotel so doesn't matter if you're not staying there.
I'll be back again.

RAB Lounge Restaurant & Bar is located within The Grand Hotel, a four and a half-star, heritage-listed apartment hotel. One of the most impressive buildings in Melbourne city, the building is beautifully restored to retain the style of the 1880’s, making the dining experience quite special. The menu boasts an array of traditional dishes that pay homage to rustic Italian cooking. The winelist on the other hand features a fine selection of Victorian boutique wines that are available by the glass. There is also a vast range of boutique wines, regional beers and international lagers, along with a tempting cocktail list. The dining room is surrounded by photographic images of the hotel’s Railway history and other Railways of the 1910s.
