Good deal for all u can eat !!!
Still a nice restaurant. They drop the price and given how expensive beef are these days, actually not a bad deal. We can’t expect paying all you can eat $35 dollars with expensive beef. Owner has to pay rent and salaries and income for themselves. Those who complain about bad quality meat, please lower your expectations and please be fair with the owner. I would consider coming back again. Not as good as the previous owner but since they are cheaper and meat are not that bad. It is overall a good place for buffet.
Amazing dinner with my family last night. Food was full of flavors, well prepared and fresh! The beef was tender. Salmon was fresh. Owners were passionate, they put in effort to learn about what customers like and not like, and review the items individually. They even shared that they bought in fresh ingredients and sauces from Japan. I will definitely come back and bring friends next time.
Took my family here for dinner. Smokeless bbq was really nice. The meat is marinated and full of flavour.
Melts in your mouth yumminess. The lunch menu is nice too. I got addicted to the curry rice dish. The curry was very close to the one I loved in Japan.
Good restaurant, a little bit expansive but authentic. Karaage(fires chicken) was my favourite, sukiyaki (not too sweet which is good) taste good and you can cook your own (we added one portion of pork belly and it taste as good as beef).
The drinks are also satisfying.
Japanese bbq is one of my favourite cuisines. Takumi doesn’t disappoint with great quality melt in your mouth meat. We ordered some oysters which weren’t very fresh and left a foul taste but everything else was delicious. Would give it another go!
Should be a 4 & 1/2 rating.
I came her with my wife for dinner on Saturday night and cannot talk highly enough of our experience.
For entree we ordered the salmon carpaccio which was amazing. The salmon was fantastic and the tangy wasabi/soy sauce was to die for. For the main we ordered the premium sampler which was amzing, all of the meat was tender and melted in your mouth. We also ordered the squid which was enjoyable as well.
The service and friendliness of the staff added to our experience.
The food quality is high and service is alright. But the environment was quite bad when the front door is open. But overall rating is above average. Worth a try!

Went again last night. This time, instead of ordering from the menu, I asked the wait staff what was good to eat. They recommended the beef tataki, salmon carpaccio, and black cod for starters and porterhouse, scotch fillet, and oyster blade for mains accompanied with mixed salad.
OMG...seriously...these guys know their stuff!
When in doubt, always ask what’s good on the day!!
Walk out a happy chap and the 3 customers with me said it’s the best beef they’ve had in Australia!
Well done takumi team! Keep up the good work!!
Honestly...the BEST wagyu Japanese bbq in Melbourne! Their Premium beef is the best beef I’ve ever had in Melbourne.
Porterhouse steak, scotch fillet, tri tip, eye fillet and premium oyster blade...OMG! Every bite was so tender and juicy and so YUMMY! Genuine charcoal grill meant the meat also absorbed some smokiness flavour which made it taste even better!
I’ve tried all the Japanese bbq in Melbourne and this is the one I keep coming back to.
The quality of the meat is the best I’ve had for m9+ and the price is so much cheaper than all the others...like at least 40% less like for like!
Service is always fantastic. My expectations for service isn’t like other people. All I need is when I want something, a wait staff is there to accommodate. I know other people expect silver spoon service but it’s a Japanese bbq...it’s all about you, your company, and the food! If you expect silver service, go pay double at fine dining restaurants.
Everyone must go to takumi and try their premium menu. You will not regret it!
Keep up the good work Takumi team!
Takumi was the first Japanese bbq restaurant I ate at when I came to Melbourne. Their wagyu meat is just amazing, a buttery piece of heaven that melts in the mouth as soon as you eat it.
Good food, nice interior and friendly staff. We came here for dinner and ended up ordering 4 sets in total to share for 5 people. We all love the salmon carpaccio, rib eye and scallops. The serving were small and we were all surprised when we opened the foil and found just a piece of oyster. We ordered 4 sets so we were given 4 oysters. Also, with our last order of another set, the kitchen must’ve rushed as we were given a frozen beef tataki. There were a few hiccups like forgetting to serve us the edamame, kimuchi and the last Wagyu Beef tataki but we still had a great dining experience so all good.
Came her for lunch, had a very tasty wagyu bento box which wasn’t bad value given the quality of the meat. My colleague got the katsu curry and was equally happy. Recommended.

Under new management since November, Takumi has received a fresh new, brightened interior. Though best known for its Japanese BBQ, other standout dishes include the Beef Tataki with its notable marbling, and the Salmon Carpaccio with wasabi infused yuzu.
always walking in to a pleasant greeting by the staff. the food is served fast and its absolutely delicious. a fun way to enjoy a meal. top notch !
At entrance greeted by very friendly staff and nice atmosphere. The premium plate was amazing and as expected melts in your mouth instantly. Definitely a good place for Japanese BBQ even though it's on the pricey end. The normal large plate offers different taste but was very satisfying. But the must get is the wagyu cuts for the marbling taste. Choice of sake for the BBQ was very complement to the taste. A sweet and smooth sake really help clean the pallete for the next bite.
Great place! Came here for the bbq buffet. No dramas meat was of nice quality and nice flavours. Only small suggestion is to make sure the coals are really hot when coming out. Otherwise great restaurant and good price!
Great Japanese fine dinning place, love the Wagyu on the hot plate, quality window sits are my favourite, fine dinning for 2 around $150 include alcohol so price on the middle range...good stuff and boss friendly service, so will come back :))) X
Food order: All you can eat Japanese grill without seafood
Yes, there are only 2 meat items plus 1 squid on this all you can eat option, but this didn't diminish my experience at all. Must be because of the well-balanced sauces available to eat with your meat - sesame, a darker teriyaki-like sauce and another with a hint of sour.
Consistently served up good quality meats in all the plates served.
Staff were attentive. Once a plate of meat has been devoured, this would be automatically replenished. No wasting time here so you really end up eating to your maximum capacity even though session is strictly 1.5 hours.
Went here for a small dinner party with friends. We ordered the 'All You Can Eat' and stuffed our bellies with lots of beef in the ~2 hours given. The service was decent -- I barely interacted with them but they were pleasant. I would bring my family here someday :)
My boyfriend David and i visited Takumi on Thursday 13th July 2017. We decided to give the 45.00 set menu a try and the food was delicious and filling too. The workers were very polite and helpful. It was a very clean restaurant and we will see you again soon. Thanks a lot :) I would definitely recommend this place to my family and friends.
If you are after a quiet place to enjoy dinner then Takumi is a good pick.
The venue is small but comfortable, we did start the night sharing our table. However, there is a curtain divider between so it didn't feel too much like communal dining. The venue is quite stylish and has a nice feel. The piano covers played in the background help create a relaxed mood and had our group guessing the famous tunes being covered.
The food was good, but not amazing. I have spent many nights at Japanese/Korean bbq and the food was nice but nothing extraordinary. Our group decided to select our own menu to share which consisted of 3 entrees 3 mains and the Bibimbap (Korean style mixed rice). It was probably just enough food for the 3 of us. However we could have probably had more, and if we had our boys with us we definitely would have needed more. The Bibimbap was the highlight of the night extremely tasty, and the chilli is set to one side so it can be enjoyed by all. All up we spent $40 per person including our drinks.
Service was ok, staff were polite and attentive but I would have liked a bit more guidance in selecting the dishes in terms of how much to order etc.
Overall an enjoyable place for a low key dinner.
The service and food here were awesome, couldn't have been better. Two of us had a quite cost-efficient banquet and even the wine was perfect. The only fault was the shocking music.
Come and cook food for yourself yakiniku style!
*Food was excellent*
We ordered set A from the dinner menu. We got kimichi and beans first. The kimchi was quite good and spicy. I didn't mind the beans either. It was alright. After that we received the main dishes. The meats looked fresh and visually appealing as each slice were cut to perfection. Squid was also nice to eat. The pumpkin and zucchini was pretty good on the grill. Tasted like sweet chips. There were 3 sauce used to dip the meat. They were soo good. For dessert we had icecream which I forgot which flavour it was but was sastifying to eat. Light and creamy.
*Service was outstanding*
The staffs are kind, willing to listening and always have a great smile. They are very quick and efficient. If you want anything the staffs are always there to help you.
*Good Environment*
When you walk in everything looks visually appealing. Tablewares and plates are nicely set out. Looks clean and simple. Good for group eating since each table can fit about 8 people.
*Price*
Fairly expensive but you're paying for a fun and enjoyable experience. So bring your friends and family and experience the fun in cooking!
Overall I would recommend trying out their delicious food and experience a yakiniku style restaurant.
The all you can eat waygu menu was great. Definitely enjoy every bit of it. Love the salad that it come with. Great deco and seating. Will definitely come back for more.
Takumi is a nice restaurant to take your partner for a date night. Very spacious and intimate setting with easy listening background music so you can still have a conversation across the table without raising your voice. I bought the Groupon voucher- 8 course degustation mean with sake for 2 people at $89. It is a good combination of cold and hot dishes and seafood/beef mix. The Charcoal BBQ does not produce a lot of smoke like most Korean BBQ houses which makes it more pleasant to dine in. I enjoyed the Takumi's special and salmon carpaccio and Jo-hire steak. The service is quite prompt. The food is served very promptly and we don't feel rushed at the same time. We came at 6 pm and finished the 8 course within an hour. The Groupon voucher is good value but I'm sure it's worth the full price.
Absolutely delicious, the beef was so succulent that i can't really use words to describe such delicacy until you try these in person. Do visit this restaurant.
Jo Karubi and Jo tan are my favourites. so strongly recommend these.
The $55pp BBQ all you can eat at Takumi is a good deal if you're in for a huge beef feast. The texture of the wagyu shoulder provided a good mouth feel, but the ox tongue was sliced too thin for my liking (enjoyable nonetheless!). As for other items like the calamari and veggies, they were nothing to shout about. I'm not sure if I'd revisit Takumi again as there was nothing too extraordinary, but this Japanese BBQ is worth a try!
The $99 Groupon for 10 course degustation was definitely worth it. Five cold courses followed by five courses cooked on a central coal grill. The salmon melted in your mouth, as did the eye fillet steak. The beef was a little chewy if you didn't cook it enough, but only a small fault. Definitely worth a visit, was an experience, not just a meal.

I came here with my family. Best way to celebrate a family dinner and be completely full for the rest of the night!
Their entrees were absolutely delicious. This was my first time trying a raw beef - absolutely melts in your mouth, and their sauce do well to complement the meat. I also loved the salmon capaccio they had. A nice refreshing plate, and I wished the whole time there was more! The salmon just melts in your mouth, and honestly it was a great with the mayo and wasabi. Their grilled chicken balls skewer were also quite good. Quite soft and tender - again just too delicious to have only 1 stick per person.
Their beef was great. I thought one of their beefs was chewy, though I forgot to figure out which one it was (it's the thicker slices). The rest were great, and tasted amazing when BBQ'd and topped with some of the dipping sauces.
We came at a busy time but I found the waiter to be quite patient and nice with us, despite the other tables he had to wait.
We also used a Groupon voucher for this meal, and I can't say we would come here to pay full price but it was nonetheless a great meal.
I've been here before the Groupon days. Another Japanese restaurant I like. Before the Groupon days, we ordered all kinds of different things. All tasty. Since Groupon, we just get the voucher and do the set course. Just as good, but obviously, there is no choice. It's Really worth the value. We do weeknights, so can book in w Groupon quiet easily. There was once they forgot a course. When we informed them, they actually re set up the BBQ for this one dish. Honestly, I would have been happy if they just gave us a extra scoop of ice cream to compensate that dish. We were full anyway. But I was too embarrassed to say anything. They haven't missed any courses since then, so I can't even try ..... missed opportunity. Oh well...I'm also hoping they will change the Groupon set course soon.
Wanted to try something different from the generic Japanese foods that we usually had, and decided to give Takumi a shot. Definitely something worth trying; I ordered set B and everything was quite clean and enjoyable. The DIY nature of Jap BBQ made it an enjoyable evening, and did not leave me with the heavy uncomfortable feeling you would typically get from KBBQ ( a real plus for me!). The scoops of icecream we received a winner - this was by far the best black sesame ice cream I have had. The sweetness did not compromise the bitterness, allowing for a perfect balance of flavours.
Went to Takumi with a 10-course Groupon voucher. Never heard of this restaurant npr saw it before. I called in the afternoon to get a table that same evening. They were friendly and it was no problem to get a table (on a Tuesday night). Only bought the voucher after I booked. The service was very polite, some of them didn't seem to speak English very well. We received a small jug of sake, which was enough to get us through the meal. All the courses were small, but plenty of food to fill you up. The salmon and beef for on the bbq was delicious. All and all it was very good. I must say that I am not a big fan of this kind of restaurant (with the bbq thing), but we had a lovely night of nice food for $99, which is great value!
Value for money 10 course Japanese degustation Groupon voucher $99 for 2, generous and quality dishes w Sake. There are two sessions 6pm or 8pm and we found it little rush to finish each course. Overall we enjoyed our dinner tonight. Friendly service by Japanese waitresses too.
I really enjoyed my dinner here tonight. The meat was really tender and flavoursome however I've had better. The menu is very limited! The entrees were nice, I really enjoyed that takumi special and the chicken balls! For dessert I recommend getting the red bean ice cream so freaking good!
Their wagyu beef all u can eat was pretty darn good. the DIY charcoal grill was fun and best of all smokeless. We also got the the extra seafood all u can eat.. Scallop salmon octopus prawns. All up bout $70 from memory... current special us if book for 6 pax or more u get one adult free. so it was alright for a grp of friends. everything was pretty good and unlike some all u can eat they do not skimp in quality or deliberately make things saltier to get u to buy more drinks. Eg. The miso soup. this was reaaaaally nice on a cold night. It was worthy of 2 more bowls but alas had to stick to my research theory .... the BMI!!! Buffet Maximised Index. So far it has proven to be accurate in most cases. Could go back to Takumi on the beef alone!!!
Takumi Japanese Restaurant is one of the few dining places in Melbourne that specialise in Wagyu beef. Their premium cuts of meat are cooked beautifully on their signature yakiniku BBQ, a DIY smokeless charcoal grill, to enhance the natural meat flavours. Although the meats are definitely the highlights of Takumi, their other selections are not bad. The dining environment is very modern and it has a comfortable and laid back feel. Perfect for date night or catching up with friends. Would recommend.
Not really sure why this place has a high rating...but came here with a group of friends after purchasing the 10 course degustation Groupon for 4. Overall I think the food here was good but at the same time I had higher expectations. A little bit disappointed how the miso, edamame beans, rice all counted as a dish in the degustation. Also I think it would have been better if they offered an alternative to the sake that was also included as most of us didn't really drink it.
Highlights of the night for me was probably the salmon carpaccio and the ice creams for dessert.
Overall I think it was a nice experience with good service.
We've only gone for lunches here so can't comment on the dinner offerings. Having said that, the lunch deals are absolutely recommended! The quality of the food, presentation, choices and prices - great lunch time options. Service is great, too. If you're extra hungry go for the deluxe lunch. Portions are well-sized. Well, unless you're used to crappy buffet type serving sizes where it's about quantity and not quality. Will return for dinner one day.
It's my first time dining in the restaurant, had 3 sets of the buffet (ox tongue and karubi/galbi beef) -$55 each.
There's 1.5 hours time limit.
Overall experience is satisfactory, eventhough service is a bit slow but the meat is fresh.
There is not many options for the bbq but its quite alright for a romantic japanese bbq dining experience for couple.
My regular Japanese fix. Been going regularly and never disappointed. Have been going for years but they recently have been featuring in Groupon so I would definitely make the most of those deals.
I came here with my boyfriend after purchasing an online voucher, and we had a wonderful time. We have come back from a holiday in Japan not too long ago, and it was so nice to have a taste of some more delicious Japanese food and their wonderful service!
The food was absolutely delicious, and we also had two bonus sides of edamame beans and rice. It is difficult to pick a favourite dish, but I especially loved the salmon carpaccio, grilled salmon, and wagyu beef. My boyfriend LOVED the wagyu and the red bean ice cream served (he has been thinking about it ever since). All off the food was delicious, and enough that we didn't leave hungry.
I only had two complaints about the night (and they're very minor); the first is that we didn't know how to eat edamame beans (whole? Just the peas inside? Did we dip them into the trio of sauces?), and the squid would have been better cooked by the chefs rather than over the grill; it can be tricky to cook squid properly and I don't think we cooked it quite right =(
Absolutely loved this place, and am definitely considering coming back here and bringing my family along!
Since our friends wanted to have Japanese Bbq, I went on Zomato to do research and found Takumi with very good reviews. I realised many reviewers came here with Groupon voucher. Luckily the voucher was still for sale, so we decided to go ahead & purchase. It was $189 for a ten course degustation with sake for 4 people.
Normally, I'm very skeptical with online deals & vouchers since I find some of them dodgy and had bad experience myself. However this time Takumi changed my opinion.
We arrived for the 6pm session, the restaurant was almost filled up. The decoration is simply nice with decent furniture. 4 of us were seated at a big table which could easily fit 6 people.
Starting off with a plate of Edamame & Gyu Tataki, we thought the portion was fairly small & the beef was so thin. Then the next two entrees came out, which were Chicken Ball Skewers & Salmon Carpaccio. The skewers were not too salty and the salmon had a pleasant flavour complexity. I like that most dishes are served in individual portion, so you'll get the feeling that it is really for 4 people, not just one plate in the middle to share.
Oh one thing I forgot to mention, since none of us drink sake that night, the staff was nice enough to offer us any drink in the non-alcohol list to replace.
Moving on to the BBQ, which was also the main, there were squid, salmon, sliced wagyu beef & jo-hire steak for grill. Salad, miso & rice were also served. Everything was fresh and decent. I notice at Takumi, they use Ogatan charcoal which is quite common in Japanese BBQ to keep the heat longer & creat nice & tender texture for the food. Pork fat is used to grease the grilling rack instead of basting oil, this helps to minimise any dripping and flare-up possibility.
We finished up the dinner with Green Tea & Red Bean Ice cream. It was very creamy and satisfied my sweet tooth.
Overall, I think for the price of our purchased voucher, Takumi offers a great value meal. The food was fairly decent and fresh. However, if we were to pay the full price, we would definitely expect something with better impression.
I took my family here, taking advantage of the Groupon offer of the 10 course degustation menu. Recommend booking as there are only two sessions at dinner time, 6 and 8pm. Great set up, just like any other bbq place but a little fancier. I was 30 mins late to my session because of traffic but the staff were incredibly understanding and super friendly. Because I was late, most of our dishes came out super quickly however we finished just on time at 7:55pm. The food was delicious, a little on the pricer side. We thought we were going to leave hungry because the dishes looked very small, however the last course we had wagyu beef (bbq'ed yourself) with rice, which was really filling. The wagyu beef that was the shoulder cut was a little bit of a let down because that particular cut smelt and tasted very meaty and that was the dish where the portion was huge, so I didn't really enjoy it neither did my family. The salmon sashimi dish was my favourite with great flavours (needed more of it)! Their ice cream needed more flavour as it tasted like milk for all three flavours.
Came here to try the 10-Course Japanese Degustation offered on Groupon and got to say there were quite a few grouponers that night.
A few moments after we sat down the dishes just flowed to our table. The meal itself was good. The 10 course is basically made up of 5 prepared dishes and 5 self cook dishes over hot coals.
I expected that when they brought over the hot coal dishes that maybe they were either going to prepare it for us or at least provide some details of how you should cook the following dishes but that didn't happen.
All in all it was quite an enjoyable experience and made it difficult to walk especially after having 10 courses.
Have been multiple times using a groupon voucher (really good deal). service and ambience is always excellent. this is an authentic japanese restaurant, on the pricier side which is to be expected for the quality of food. the wagyu beef is very yummy and is done to however you like on the grill on front of you. all in all, love this place and keep going back
Food was fantastic, definitely value for money.
Third visit last night and ratings would have been higher if they had noticed they forgot to turn on our pot, hence the charcoal never took off, and then we had to ask about it twice, second time they changed the charcoal for us. By then we are one hour into our two hour seating, we had to rush off the final 15 minutes of eating but the quality of the food is definitely top notch!
I went here last night using a Living Social voucher and the 10 course degustation was fantastic. The beef was unbelievably good and the service was great. One of the best dining experiences I've had. Will definitely be back.
Went with a Groupon voucher. The stone grill was something different for me and I enjoyed most of my meals. Not rushing to go back but I see it's appeal.
Have been here twice and the food is excellent. The beef and salmon entrees are beautifully light and flavoursome. Mains are cooked to your liking on your own grill, the wagyu is melt in your mouth. Get the groupon voucher as it's much better value, service is good and atmosphere is warm and cosy. A great dinner spot.
Fantastic Japanese bbq in the cbd! There aren't too many around (most are Korean bbq places), great quality meat and seafood as well as lovely service from all. Highly recommended.
Takumi has a good selection of starters and barbecue options, designed for sharing. Highlight of the meal was the scallop sashimi (very fresh scallops and a tasty dressing) and also the selection of beef, all of which were really good quality. It was fun for everyone in our group to cook our meats and you can also cook them to your liking!
I went away feeling satisfied and not super full, which is great, but we had to add a few more dishes to our table because serving sizes were much smaller than expected.
Great food, came here on Groupon deal. The only qualm I have is that whilst the waitresses were very nice, they didn't explain to us much. Part of the meal involved bbqing our own meat, though it wasn't explained what meat we were given and how to cook it (well...let's just say I'm a bit clueless when it comes to cooking food!). Still, the meat was yummy
A yakiniku dining experience that won't disappoint.
Enter the bamboo entryway of Takumi and you'll be greeted by the lovely staff. The interior's decor is minimalist and calming.
Depending on your appetite, you can choose from all you can eat BBQ, select individual dishes, or get a few bite size dishes from the bar menu. There are a good selection of local and Japanese alcohol beverages to complement your meal.
We got BBQ and was delighted by the experience of grilling our own meat over charcoal. This also give the meat's flavour an extra special kick. The temperature was just right to cook the high quality cuts of Wagyu and each piece was tender and juicy. The meat are not seasoned as they're meant to be enjoyed with the special sauce. The karage and takoyaki that we ordered was also delicious as side dishes.
We've been coming here for dinner every couple of weeks since October 2020 and the $45/pp all you can eat menu is delicious, best value for money for the variety of cuts and quality of meat and sides that you get.
One little criticism I would mention is that the service can be a tad slow at times but when that happened the chef offered us complimentary cut of meat that is only included in the $99/pp set menu, and on one occasion we received free sake shots as well.
Over all we're very happy with their service and food.
