A little cafe hide in classic building in the Strand. Friendly staff provided introduction of their different cakes and give some recommendations as well. The pistachio cake is tasty and others look nice as well
Discovered this hidden gem in CBD and this has now become my favourite place for a sweet treat!
Ordered the St. Honoré Cake, Mille-feuille, Strawberry Shortcake and absolutely love all of them as they were not too sweet😋Highly recommend the St. Honoré Cake!
Overall rating - 4.5/5
Pastry was amazing. Coffee was super smooth. Would come back again without a doubt
The strawberry shortcake was delicious. It was very fluffy and tasty. Would be nicer if there were more strawberries. Will still gey thia cake again :)
Tried the other sweets and they were too sweet. They were also average and did not stand out much.
Cold long black and cold coffee is to die for
Stopped by late at night cause I had a dessert craving. There were lots of options but this place was open a bit later than the others, after 2100, so ended up coming here.
It's located on Driver Lane, just off Little Bourke Street by the Emporium mall. Keep an eye out for the sign which is quite far off the ground, I just noticed the one in the window.
They have cabinet pastries and coffee. They had a little selection of pastries like cream puffs and strawberry cake but I went with the Mille Feuille. I grabbed a seat after ordering and the pastry was delivered to the table.
It was quite tasty. The pastry was crispy and had a nice caramel flavour to it. The vanilla cream inside was nicely flavoured. It was quite a tasty dessert. I was pleasantly surprised with the tastiness of it.
Came to this cafe to satisfy my sweet tooth. Had double cheesecake which was great but not the cheesecake style that I enjoy. I like my cheesecake with very cheesy taste however this cheesecake is quite light with citrusy flavour despite the name is “double cheesecake “.
The other one was pistachio cake with strawberry and pistachio cream at the top. I thought the bottom part will be spongy but the texture was dense which I had no problem with it.
However, it that high price tag I assume they could done something a bit better.
Will I be back? Uhmmm....
Their strawberry shortcake is my favourite cake to have when I need some time alone for myself. It also goes well with chamomile tea. It gets busy sometimes. But the staff members are always polite and friendly. They also provide free wifi services for anyone that needs to work on some stuff/assignments while enjoying a slice of cake and a cup of tea/coffee.
Afternoon tea with an assortment of not overly sweet decadent pastries. Very quaint cafe, friendly and helpful staff who explained the available pastries
Cute little place, lovely and quiet inside. Friendly staff member who offered some suggestions. The coffee was good, nice and hot but maybe not as full bodied as my personal preference.
This little cozzy cafe is a place where I choose to spend my lazy afternoon with my friends. It locates in CBD, but never too packed, which is good for people who do not like be bothered by noise.
A pot of tea, a serve of sweet and a nice company. Nothing can be better than that.
RECOMMEND:
👉Marco Polo tea
👉Rose sth tea (I don't remember exact name of it, haha)
👉White chocolate musse
👉King cake
👉Madeleine
👉Omg, seriously everything 😂😂😂
Sweet canteen has a nice, calming ambience, and it is definitely a cute little place to catch up with friends.
The staff members were kind and spent time introducing their dessert with us.
I liked the sweet hot chocolate paired with their strawberry cream sponge cake, although the strawberries were a little sour.
I would love to try the other options next time.
I was craving Japanese style cream puffs and found out this place has them. Stopped by just to get some cream puffs to go. But honestly I was surprised at their price. 7 dollars for a cream puff is quite expensive. I was satisfied with the quality, but still feels like it's overpriced.
メルボルン在住の日本人の皆様、シュークリームここで買えます。ただ1つ7ドルとべらぼうに高いです。
Sweet Canteen had on their menu beautiful cakes; some modern and some traditional, but all felt home-made. We tried their staples Strawberry and St Honore cakes, and thought they were fresh, delicious, and not too sweet. Staff were very friendly, and the venue was small but cozy. Sweet Canteen was definitely one of my favourite dessert places.
If you are craving for something sweet, sweet canteen is the place to be! Amazing desserts at this place, kind of hidden in the Driver Lane. You might even miss it if you are just passing by Little Bourke Street.
Their desserts are fresh and delicious and tastes amazing with a sip of coffee or tea. Strawberry cake is one of my favourites. I also love the lemon meringue choux. A choux pastry filled with some gorgeous lemon cream.
The place is tiny and cosy. I really like spending time here even if it’s just for a coffee, especially on a lazy weekend afternoon!
I came here with a friend on a whim. The interior is pleasant, nice peaceful ambience, background music was nice.
I had a tiramisu heart shaped cake to share, and a couple of macarons. The tiramisu is not the traditional tiramisu as they’ve gone for aesthetic as opposed to taste. The best tiramisu comes from a large pan. That said, both desserts were decent.
Overall, these desserts aren’t going to change the world, and it is definitely targeting the Asian sweet tooth, but you will have a pleasant experience inside.
It's not quite a 4, but I'd rather round up then down.
Their cakes is really really good! Love their cakes. Their service is also good. Atmosphere in here not bad but the drink is normal. Fully recommended their cakes
Beautiful, quaint little patisserie. A few delicious desserts and drinks. Make sure you look up and to see the beautiful ceiling! The staff are really lovely and friendly, definitely listen to their recommendations. 👌🏽
A hidden gem! We were out for a family progressive dinner in the CBD and discovered this little patisserie. We were so glad we decided to try it. The pastries were heavenly! You can tell that the pastries were made with passion and love. Highly recommended.
Excellent dessert!! Owner actually made them fresh and never sell any dessert that has kept overnight. So ensure the food is always in top standard. Love the cosy place that you can have tea and spend some time doing work. Highly recommend!
Excellent pastries, accompanied by excellent service! Their macarons are very tasty- neither too sweet and with a perfectly crisp outer. Can do custom cakes as well.
Very yummy. We tried many types of cakes here, all of them are amazing. The service is fantastic good and friendly. Wish to try more desserts in the future.
Stopped by here and wasn’t expecting much since the rating isn’t that high, but boy did it exceed expectations. The desserts are light and not too sweet but are delicious. The strawberry cake is divine.
Such a cute little dessert store hidden away in a lane next to Emporium. We ordered a special Valentine’s day cake which was both beautiful and delicious. It did come with quite a hefty price tag though for the size of the cake - was gone in minutes!
Can’t wait to come back and try more of their desserts!

Accidentally bumped into this little cute dessert store while shopping at Emporium. They kindly offered me some samples of their pastry, I tried the galette des rios (King cake) it was crispy and not too sweet.
.
But then we ordered the DOUBLE CHEESECAKE 🧀🧀($9) and MILLEFEUILLE 🇫🇷 ($9) as it looks more appealing. The cheesecake wasn’t as cheesy and creamy as I was expecting to be, but it was ok. The Mille-feuille has a crispy layer, which is messy to eat. Good flavour but not remarkable.
.
Good coffee, friendly staff. But I feel like the cake size is too small for the price you pay. Having said that, it is a nice place to chill out or catch up with friends 🍰☕️🗣Will come back for more.
Sweet Canteen is a very cute and small dessert place. There is a cute French inspired seating area outside. Inside the friendly manager will talk to you, and tell you all about the cakes. He will bring in regular customers since he is very passionate about Sweet Canteen's products.
I ordered the cheesecake. Was very nice! I would like to see some more variety in the menu (perhaps because it was late I missed out on a lot of the sweets) I look forward to seeing what other desserts they come up with.
Accidentally found this cute little laneway cafe. We had the mocha cake and king cake. The mocha cake was yummy and is a good quality cake but at $9 for a small slice it was a bit pricey. The king cake was delicious and definitely worth a try. Also their coffee was good and goes well with their cakes. We will go back again to try something else.
Tucked away in Drivers lane beside the Emporium only since a month ago, I owe it to the cute sign outside for helping me find Sweet canteen. I was first greeted by the friendly lady at the counter who offered me samples of the kings cake($7.50) and the lemon cheesecake($9). Both were so delicious but I knew I had to choose just one and eventually the kings cake (galette des rois) won. The kings cake is a puff pastry tart with frangipane filling. The pastry itself was flaky and so buttery that it even made my hands smell like butter afterwards. The frangipane filling has a fragrant almond flavour and wasn't overly sweet or oily. It was worth every dollar spent and I found that sizes were just right.
The interior is clean and cute although a bit dark with limited seats. They have both whole and individual cakes available which you can enjoy with a cup of coffee. Also, they open from 6.30am although it's listed as 10.30am on Zomato so that you can start the day with a great pastry experience!
A sweet little treasure in Driver Lane, Sweet Canteen has a small showcase but they are certainly delightful. The puff pastry is to absolutely die for -- it's crisp, not too flaky with just the right amount of sugar and butter. The same goes for the strawberry cake (not sure about the name) -- fresh strawberries on top, with a foamy cream butter and a smooth cake texture. Nothing's too sweet so I'll definitely have to come back here again! Ignore the gloomy look inside, it's the sweets that count. The staff are also very friendly and informative.
Locate ground floor outside emporium central. Firstly the customer service not bad , very friendly . Secondly the desert is awesome , lastly found a shop really put effort in the industry, really looking good and tasty. Lastly the price is reasonable. Thumbs up
