First time been this Indonesian cafe, the decor is quite humble and simple but found some copy of newspaper on the wall showing the owner history , which is interesting. We ordered fried Chicken with turmeric rice, which is with full flavour. The chicken is crispy outside and tender inside, well cooked! It comes with bit of home made chilli sauce and salad. Honestly the chilli sauce is very spice but not as good as the one in another Indonesian restaurant. I do expect the chilli sauce coming with full fragrance and freshness of chilli, but this one is bit weak. While overall it is good experience dinning here. The food is charged ok, not overpriced given it being located next to Victoria Market.

Anyone wanna try pure spice food, could come and grab a meal. But if you do have high expectations on chilli sauce, maybe go somewhere else

Lovely nice little Indonesian restaurant right next to the Queen Victoria Market, named as "herbal house." First encountering with Indonesian food with our sweet Jaghor national introduced three types of dishes: Gado-gado, Kwetiau Goreng, Lontong seyur, with an addition of tafu & Tempeh, and Teh Tarik! A bless of Indonesia all together! Didn't take photo of the second round of deserts, which were black rice & coconut milk, and kola-sweet potato, pumpkin and banana & coconut milk

This is definitely my favourite Indonesian place in the city. Always come here for their ayam bakar chicken. It’s consistently super yummy 🤤🤤 and the wait staff are usually very polite and attentive.

This Indonesian restaurant on the northern end of Elizabeth street has a pretty run down and dark interior but the bright and friendly service neutralises this.

I had the mie goreng with extra spice and boy, did it deliver in spades! It was a little too oily but the wok hei was very prominent. There were tiny pieces of chicken and the noodles were of the instant noodle kind.

All in all, a reasonable experience and worth repeating in the future.

Great place to get Indonesian food at the heart of Melbourne CBD. Came here a couple times and the best picks were the Soto Betawi and fried rice, but also had the ribs and fried chicken on other occasion and it was also delicious. Staffs were friendly and helpful. Always happy to eat here.

Wonderful small busy place with owner in a hands on role cooking for his customers.
Food is delicious and fresh. I good variety of dishes and including desserts that you won’t see around a lot. The crispy skin chicken that they are so famously know for is justified. Great flavours, friendly service.
Must come and try.

Came past this Indonesian joint after work one day and tried out the Nasi Uduk Ayam Kremes & Iga Bakar Sapi Penyet, both dishes were pretty tasty and flavoursome. I really enjoyed the sides that came with the main meats, and the chilli paste was amazing. I might be partial to Indonesia food but this place was a great feed. Highly recommended for a quick meal.

Ordered an Ayam Bakar Penyet (grilled chicken, fried tofu, tempeh, salad and chilli) and a curry chicken for delivery tonight. Prices were quite reasonable for what we got, at $12+ and $10 respectively. The grilled chicken maryland was succulent and tasty. The tofu and tempeh were fine, but seemed a bit stingy with only a small piece each. My main gripe with this style of Indonesian dish is the lack of sauce for the rice, which would have helped a lot. Luckily, the rice was fluffy and quite well done, and we had curry from the curry chicken dish to help with that.

The curry chicken was quite generous, with a whole big box full of sauce. They gave us 2 drumsticks and a thigh piece, so again quite generous. The curry was advertised as mildly spicy but was a lot spicier than that in my opinion. However, different people have different tolerances I guess. After a while though I did start to enjoy the curry sauce, and it's a lot milder when eaten with rice.

Overall, we were quite happy with the price and quality of the food here.

Pondok Rempah was my second favourite Indonesian eatery after Ayam Ria. I’ve been here so many times and quite obsessed with their Nasi Goreng, it was spicy, smoky, salty - simply delicious and very close to what you would get in Indonesia. The other meals I’ve tried (fried tofu, fried noodle, Sop Buntut, Es Teler, fried banana dessert etc) were quite average, but happy to return solely for their Nasi Goreng!

Sunday afternoon lunch at this Indonesian Restaurant. This place had homely feeling.

Ordered Nasi Goreng and Fried Chicken with sauce. Quantity was a lot than we expected. Good quality at affordable prices.

The drink I ordered was Gendol (coconut milk and jelly). It was too sweet.

Friendly staff :)

Can't believe I never review this place! Well I spent many days getting my dinner here in the last few months.. food was awesome, as well as the service. Comfortable eating space too. The only downside: they don't have free flow chili sambal on the table. I tried asking but I never get any unless your menu says you're getting some kind of chili.

4 stars are given for the dessert Bubur Ketan Hitam. The glutinous black rice mixed with salted coconut milk was very yummy! The sweetness was just perfect, not too sweet. I'm not from Indonesia and this was the first time trying this Indonesian dessert, and it really impressed me and reminded me of something similar in my hometown. Other dishes I ordered were fine, but this dessert was impressive!

I barely dine on Indonesian food but I always love their grilled meats, also one of the dishes where the chillies don't try to kill me!

I got their Iga Domba which translates to lamb ribs but I got a feeling it was another cut. The portions were generous, the marinated lamb was tasty but the flavours weren't as intense because the lamb wasn't that fatty (fortunately, unfortunately). The sambal is needed but I used it sparingly as I'm a bit weak.
The tempeh on the side tasted unusual, a fermented soybean cake. Not a fan. Also came with a basic soup.

I was craving for indonesian meatball and decided to come to this place. It's located in CBD and quite small. As you come in, you can smell a yummy nasi goreng or mie goreng because they cook those food outside. I really want to try mie goreng someday.
I ordered the meatball and it came in a big bowl, with flat and egg noodles and green veggie. The soup was so thick and delicious. I love the sambal but they only gave you a little. So far, I really love this restaurant. The taste was so good really similar with what i have in Indonesia

I don’t know why the rating is so low, personally I really like their foods I’ve ordered Nasi Ayam Bakar, Nasi Iga Bakar, Sayur Asem, and their onion crackers are so freakin gooodddd, but the beef satay just so-so. It’s my 3 times in a row I’ve been ordering from Foodora 😄👍🏼

This cozy INDONESIAN 🇮🇩 restaurant is locate in Elizabeth street, near Queen vicmart and tram stop.
The service is good. And the waiter was really friendly with all customers.

This place is so good, that I've been there 5 times in under a month.
The beef rendang are one of my favourites. The beef are seasoned with a special gravy and done just right, the meat juicy which makes for a heavenly delight. The Mie Goreng are also very delectable. All the flavor is kept in while grilling and goes well with a cold drink(ice campur)

The prices are extremely reasonable compared to similar indonesian restaurant.❤️

So far I've tried nasi uduk ayam kremes, chicken satay, fish ball soup, banana fritter, soto betawi, soto ayam, nasi capcay, nasi tim, beef fried kwetiau, and hot teh tarik.
My fave one is soto ayam and hot teh tarik. 👍🏼
Friendly staff. I hope they will add a heater inside during this winter time.

Close to the Queen Victoria market, Pondok Rempah serves no-frills Indonesian food. Been here twice, the Mee Goreng is really flavoursome, generous succulent chicken pieces and has a good kick of chilli. The Beef Ribs was great, I ordered the one with the palm sugar. This was suppose to mild but I was very spicy! The name Pondok Rempah translate to House of Spices and it certainly lives up to its name.

First time I had a meal at this restaurant, I was surprised with the authenticity of it. I ordered Ayam Penyet Nasi Uduk, my friends ordered Iga and Nasi Tim. All of them are really delicious and authentic. I recommend to try this INDONESIAN restaurant, if it's your first time to ever taste it.

However I was a bit disappointed on the service, they didn't approach us to ask for our order, the waiter didn't write it down and he forgot part of our orders so we had to ask them again, after awhile we just cancelled it, but was charged on the bill.

It is located not far from queen Victoria market, and still within free tram zone area. Tried the nasi goreng (fried rice), and it taste just like the Indonesian fried rice hawker style. It has the slight burnt charcoal taste to it, which I love. Apart from nasi goreng, I have also tried the mie ayam jamur. It is very nice, decent size (for me, maybe normal size for most people), generous amount of chicken. Wanted to try the pisang goreng, but it was not available. Definitely come back to eat both menu and try other menus as well.

Ordered their black glutinous dessert for take away, and it was good, a bit too thick for my liking but its nicer than too liquid. I saw lots of people eating in the restaurant, and seem they enjoyed it, and the restaurant itself was comfy and quite big. Heard they are famous for their oxtail soup which definitely ill try when i go back.

Newly opened Indonesian restaurant in the CBD on Elizabeth Street in a row of other Asian food eateries. This place is considered a cheap-eats restaurant as a meal c0sts approximately $10-$12 so it is ideal for students and of course, those who love indo food. We tried all their "gorengs" and the kwetiau and nasi goreng stood out the most although they all seem to have a pretty similar taste and are quite spicy, even though we had requested one to be non-spicy. If we were to order again, I would try something else from their nasi and sup section. Other than that the staff were very calm and friendly despite being full house on a friday night. We also tried their ginger drink and it was a delight.

This place is very reasonably priced so it's no wonder it was full house. We even had to wait a few minutes for a table.

I had the rendang (beef) on rice and sop buntut (ox tail). The beef was so tender and tasty. They have done it a lot better than the same dish in some Malaysian restaurants. The ox tail soup looks a bit scary to me but when I took my first sip of the soup. Wow it's so delicious, they must have cooked the soup for ten to twenty hours before they can come up to this great taste. A very pleasant experience. It's very worth trying. The staff were friendly and the overall service was great.

Didn't know there's a new Indonesian restaurant on Elizabeth St. Found out about this place when I was actually about to go to the other restaurant next door but decided to try out this place instead. The place is bright and clean. At 15 minutes before closing time, they were still quite busy but the service was quite efficient. They have a good variety of food and made it quite difficult to decide. Finally ordered the Ayam Bakar Bumbu Rujak and the food came in about 10 minutes. For a measly $9.80, I got a big piece of roast chicken covered in red chilli paste, small piece of fried tofu and fried tempeh, a portion of rice, and a bowl of clear soup. The chicken was very tender and the meat fell off of the bone easily. The chilli was quite flavorsome with just a bit of a kick. Definitely satisfied with my meal and will be coming back soon!

Pondok Rempah is a new Indonesian restaurant on Elizabeth Street near the Queen Victoria Markets, just look out for the TV screen with rolling menus on  the outside. It has a large menu with plenty of interesting dishes from Indonesian sate to ribs and fried chicken. Ordered the Nasi Uduk Ayam which comprised of a large deep-fried chicken Maryland with fried tempeh and tofu, accompanied by some coconut rice and a light soup and sambal. OK, the good part - the chicken was large, crispy and well-fried while juicy and tender inside. A big tick for the "kerisik", which are the crispy yellowish bits scattered over the chicken; they added a lot of crunch and texture. The rice was also mild and fragrant and not overpowered by the coconut. The sambal chilli however was meagre in size and lacked spiciness and kick compared to other Indonesian restaurants; they should either make it spicier or give more of it. The light soup and accompanying complimentary green bean dessert were also somewhat bland and forgettable. Service was friendly and attentive, but the food was a little slow to arrive. Overall, it was an enjoyable meal and well-priced (only $9.80 for a big serve) but a tweak to the accompanying sambal would  have made it great. I'll return to try some of their other dishes.

Service is best comparing with other Indo restaurant you have to go and get your own water and cutlery. Oh and the toilet I should say is best is 10/10. Will see Pondok rempah soon after exam.

The red hot chilli that comes with it is so yum, I always order extra serving of it. The Lontong cap ngo meh is also very nice. This dish is perfect to warm you up in winter. Another thumbs up dish is the cendol. I haven't found any restaurant serving satisfying cendol in Melbourne until I tried the cendol here.

Absolutely love this place! It's one of the halal Indonesian restaurants that you should try in the CBD area. The Iga Bakar and Es Cendol are two of my personal favourites. The meat is super tender and well marinated. I've also tried the nasi uduk ayam kremes and lumpia goreng - both tasted great too. Another small point that I like is that they pack the food in a microwavable container when you order for takeaway. I find that really convenient because i can pop it right into the microwave whenever I reach home. Overall, It really has an authentic Indonesian taste to it (especially the sambal). So if you're craving for Indonesian food i'd definitely recommend this place 😊👍
