Review Man Tong Kitchen - Melbourne

Honey
We had banquet C which is $108.80 per person. It was disappointing and not up to our standard. The Peking duck pancake is thick and duck is tasteless. Fried rice is bland. Contrary to the fried rice, the Mongolian beef is over powering with sauce . One bite to the beef, we could not even have a second bite . The ambience was pleasant and service was okay. Won’t want to waste any calories in this restaurant.

I went to my friend's birthday dinner and ordered a few things. Everything tastes all right, not special. Schechuan (not sure if I splet it right) chilli oil was tasty though. It usually mixes with won ton but we asked to have sauce separately. I wouldn't get through all dishes without that chilli oil (not the normal one on the table) as they are quite plain. Prawn with garlic and butter is just that ... prawn, garlic, butter and no vegetables. Service was okay. Decoration is quite nice like you know that you're un Chinese restaurant. Of course, it's a little overpriced for the taste of food but it's in Crown casino so understandable. Would I come back? Maybe .. not 😅 but it's convenient though if you go to have fun at Crown.

Man Tong Kitchen is a beautiful restaurant and staff are friendly and attentive. The menu has a big selection along with a very comprehensive wine list. The dumplings are next level and you can taste the difference in the fillings. The wontons in chilli oil was a stand out. The spicy fried squid had a very light batter and the squid was perfectly cooked. The tender beef in XO sauce had a complex flavour profile with a pleasant hit of chilli. There's a big menu to work through and I can't wait to be back!

Seems a lot of reviewers were not impressed with the food, service and price. We were very impressed with the food which had top quality ingredients, excellent flavour, and large servings. The service was from young international student types, so efficient, helpful, attentive even, but not necessarily warm and friendly. I couldn't care less: take my order, bring it quickly. I don't need you to be my friend. The price was well worth it for the dishes we had. We had to order carefully because there were some really expensive options, but we found plenty to like at around $40 per dish. We ordered 3 mains (prawns, seafood, fish, with one entree and rice) and two were like a double serve, one could have served 4 people. We barely touched the third, too full. Drinks had reasonably priced options and good pour size. I'm sorry some people didn't enjoy their meal but if you like Chinese food like you used to get years ago at your favourite Chinese restaurant, I recommend you try Man Tong

Absolutely love Man tongs, delicious food everytime, lovely staff and great cocktails! The dumplings are so delicious and the BEST fried rice you can get in Melbourne. If you haven't tried out Man tongs yet, I highly recommend you do. You won't be disappointed 😁

Wow !! What a great menu and service. We had the duck pancakes , spicy dumplings, fried rice , garlic green Veges, chicken corn soup and fried ice cream. All were fresh and prepared with lots of flavour. We are here for a few more days and will definitely be eating here again. 5 star. Highly recommend.

What a joke. I asked if the Mongolian lamb is spicy, as my kids can’t eat spicy food. They confirmed it is only sweet, no spice at all. So I ordered it. One bite and it was so spicy my kids couldn’t eat it. I told them when I went to pay why the dish was still on the table and the lady was trying to tell me that there is no spice at all in a Mongolian dish, it must have just been hot. What a joke. I think I know the difference between spicy and the dish just being a hot temperature. Never going there again. I told them they need to learn what spicy is and taste the sauces like a proper chef is suppose to do when someone needs a dish that isn’t spicy. The duck was very salty also. Only thing my kids could eat was the fried rice. We had to go someone else to feed my kids. Shame on you for lying.

I went their with friends and enjoy the lobster banquet, which is amazing !

The tables are very close together it feels like there was no privacy. This restaurant mainly cater to the local crowd, you hardly see any Asian customers. The waiter and managers spent most of their time serving other non asian customer sited beside our table, it felt like our needs was ignored...<br/><br/>Eventually one of the waiter took notice of us and looked after us for the remaining of the night, if it wasn't for him i would have given it a 1 star for poor service.
Chili Me
The food was delicious and fast, important for us with 2 tired little kids. The wait staff were very attentive. The whole experience was spoilt due to the Nikki b staff arguing with me over whether my account t was savings or a credit card. I don’t have credit cards and it’s not my fault it comes up so on their system. I paid and refused to pay the bill and refused to pay a surcharge on a credit card I did not use! Not a nice way to end an otherwise pleasant evening.

Was a family dinner for 10. I booked via Zomato and got confirmation. When arrived, the staff said abruptly that they didn’t even have a booking for 10! I showed her the confirmation then she went for the person next up. Then they went to set up the table for us. Because was a large party, my mom checked on their menu on the official website what food to order (my mom hosting). When we ordered from the list prepared, 4 out of the 9 items they said not on the menu. He even said we copied from somewhere else and made those up. I guess it’s their responsibility too to keep their website updated! The staff also not happy that we decided not to order crab coz it’s too pricey for 10! The only good thing is the drunken chicken. Personally I probably wouldn’t go back.

One of the better restaurants in the casino amongst all the not-worth-it restaurants. This place specializes in Sichuan style dishes. The three cup chicken have a very robust flavours and goes really well with rice. The fried chicken is also great and have that hint of Sichuan peppercorn but not too overpowering.

Recommended for a decent Chinese meal at reasonable prices in the area.<br/>The restaurant has very good variety in terms of selection, ranging from the currently popular Sichuan and shanghainese cuisine to Cantonese style dishes.<br/><br/>The restaurant is also spacious with very courteous service. Dishes come very quickly as well, hungry suitable for those looking to satisfy their hungry quickly or in a hurry. As it is quite spacious, there is no need to hurry as well as the waiter continuously refill the pot for you.<br/><br/>Dishes are also up to scratch despite its wide variety, not disappointing even if comparing to the more specialty restaurants within the vicinity and the price is reasonable.

3.5 <br/><br/>Normally I wouldn't have high expectation for food in crown but this place has done a pretty decent job.<br/><br/>The manager helped us order food was very experienced and attentive. We had the soup of the day which was very nice and perfect for dry weather in Melbourne. <br/><br/>Crispy fried pigeon was a tad overcooked and lacking the BBQ flavour, wasn't really crispy.<br/><br/>The steamed parrot fish was perfectly cooked however we found it a bit overpriced. (over 150$)<br/><br/>Stir-fried diced fillet was my favourite dish of the night, well-marinated and melted in your mouth with every bite. Highly recommended.<br/><br/>Overall I would say this place is better than LuckyChan based on the value of pricing. If you are looking for Chinese food at Crown you know where you should visit.
Eating Away Melbourne
I feel really bad leaving this review because the service was really good from the girls serving our table to the manger, but the food was such a let down.<br/><br/>My friend booked Man Tong kitchen and told me it is such an amazing restaurant that her and her western bf both loved it. Really shouldn't listen to a westerner when it comes to Chinese food. We ordered Kungbao Chicken, boiling fish, red oil wonton and spring rolls. First hit the table was the red oil wonton, it was bland, no flavours just the chilli oil. I order this dish wherever I go that has it on the menu and sorry to say this is the worst i have had in Melbourne. Those Shang hai dumpling places charge $8 for more pieces and have much better flavour. Then the kungbao chicken arrived and I just couldn't hold it back any more. It is literally just huge piece of chicken and capsicum probably went through hot water and got threw on the plate. I tasted a piece of chicken, it was worse than my cooking when I was 18! So I told the girl this is not ok. Manager guy came and offered another plate, very good service, and we decided to order another dish. Boiling fish came after this incident and I don't think i can complain 2 dish in a row... So I just suck it up and ate it. It was bland, you can feel it is hot but with no flavour if you know what i mean...<br/><br/>The only highlight is the spring rolls, they are beautiful! Loved them. Replacement dish sizzling beef came, it was ok. Not the best I have had. Also I ordered a cocktail when we sat down, it didnt came, so I asked another girl for it again, didnt end up seeing a cocktail on my table. Probably a good thing because the one I ordered was $24 but the bar net to Holly Moley had $10 cocktail special and I enjoyed it later that night. <br/><br/>Probably won't go back, but to be fair, the 4 western guys on the next table seemed enjoyed their dinner.

Had a booking at opening time, we were 5 mins early but doors were open and so we just wanted to let the receptionist know... she straight up told us to leave with such a stern look on us, almost lost my appetite. <br/>Food was pretty decent and the other staff were so kind, but that receptionist needaaa chill...( I’ve had customers walk into the restaurant before opening time, I was still kind enough to let them know without sounding rude)

I have been coming to this restaurant for the last few years and have been receiving one of the greatest service!!!!! Special mention goes to ALAN LEE, he listens to our requests and make sure we have the best experience every time we come in and also adds a personal touch. Couldn’t have asked for a better place to dine in. Please pass our regards to him, five stars for you Alan!!

The food is excellent standard incredible quality and great for larger groups with inmate set up and the setting has an authentic feel. Will be back

Yes we ate almost everything! A very beautiful place to eat, we had the VIP ROOM, the food was super delicious and our waitress was so friendly and attentive, she did an amazing job. The food was legit it’s flavours. My favourite was the soft tofu with abalone sauce & the crispy fried prawns 🍤 yum! I’m definitely coming back for another round of delicious food.

This restaurant is located in Crown complex near the village cinema. The interior looks very nice and the service is attentive. Food is actually a mix of different Chinese cuisines, but overall taste pretty good. I feel the Cantonese cuisine may be the best cooking among all. The fish dish we ordered was yum!

Had a quick dinner by myself before the concert in exhibition center, ordered dry scallop soup, lobster San choi bao, truffles crab xiao long bao and beef combination in chilli sauce, good variety of the menu and service was pretty good

Our waitress named Laura was rude. She never smiled, looked angry and never said thanks even when we made the payment. Waited at least 30 minutes before getting served drinks. Good food but VERY poor customer service. We paid more than $200. Not worth paying this with such poor service. Not going to come back and not going to recommend this place. A shame since last time we came to this restaurant we had a better experience with another waiter.

Simply because the waiter's attitude is bad, sit down to call for a long time no one to order, a middle-aged man and a long hair girl listen to accent is Hong Kong people, attitude is very bad, a look down on people's feeling, return more than 20 years when they are lackeys? Take longjing when biluochun, pu 'er when fragrant tea, tea are indistinguishable without any apology, a pair of difficult to attend to the expression is to feel superior to others?

Very nice place, friendly staff. <br/>Went there with my family and my boyfriends family on his birthday. It was their first meeting so I was little worried to choose the place. they made perfect arrangements and amazing food for sure. <br/>I will suggest to order main dishes carefully as the food quantity is massive. <br/><br/>We ordered spinach & vegetables dumplings, <br/>Deep Fried corn with salted egg yolk, Szechuan style beef in chilli oil, sizzling Mongolian beef, some chicken 🐓 , fried rice <br/><br/>Between 8 people , it was too much food. But very very tasty and worth the money. <br/><br/>Rated 4* only because it was very noisy and our parents were not able to chit chat too much. May be because of Chinese New Year. It was crowd.<br/>Overall amazing experience 💕<br/>

Trying to cut some slack here as it’s Chinese New Year and a Saturday night. However, it was made very clear to us coming in at 7:15/30ish that we had to be out by 8:30. So unable to order from the expensive menu. That’s fine, no problems. <br/>But we were seated up against the cupboard which had high use from staff. 4 out of the 5 booths were free, when we asked if we could move (aware the next seating was at 8:30) we were told the seats were booked. (Of course no one arrived while we were there). <br/>We had a trainee waitress (once again trying to cut slack) however, she had obviously not poured a cider or beer before. One over flowing, the beer was 40% head. <br/>The food however arrived in very large portions, I would strongly recommend coming in large groups (you would also then get a table that could hold more than 2 dishes). <br/>Because there was not enough room for our Peking duck a waitress sat up at the bar. The first 2 pancakes were fine, edged onto the side of our table but cold by the time they arrived to our table. Obviously with 8 pieces this occurred 4 times as we ate them. In the end looking quite sloppy too. <br/>Food was ok, Chinese broccoli with oyster Sauce was great, Mongolian beef tender. <br/>Staff seemed very stressed and frantic, hope this doesn’t reflect how they would ordinarily operate. Any other day $170 for 2 people would be fine. But I expect more from a crown restaurant if I am comparing.

Crown restaurants, already people think of over priced, average quality food and service and suffice to say this place falls directly into the stereotype. <br/>We came on a Saturday night and even though the restaurant wasn’t completely full and staff sometimes seem standing around it still took 25 minutes for half of our drinks to arrive. <br/>We ordered the duck pancakes, prawn dumplings, signature dumplings, fried squid, Szechuan fish fillets and Szechuan prawns. <br/>Other than the fish fillets and prawns that were decent everything else was either average or very oily. <br/>Do not order the duck pancakes, all I tasted was sauce and they charged $52 for 6 small pieces. Ridiculous. Suffice to say most of us went home with stomach issues. Not a place I would visit again.<br/>

Had dinner here and ordered Szechuan style beef in chilli oil and Szechuan style stir fried beans. Both dish were quite nice though slightly expensive, but were still reasonable considering this is in Crown. At the end of the meal, we decided to order a marinated combination platter for takeaway, we were charged $38.80 for this, did not check the box of food until we got back to the hotel and found out that there’s barely half a box of food. Then upon checking the price on the restaurant’s website, it showed that this was meant to be $28.80. Not happy about the discrepancy in price.
Some Bunee Loves Food
Food was OK, waiters were giving recommendations and know their food well. They were very accommodating with providing a set of cutlery and plastic bowl and plate for the kids. <br/>Steamed pork soup dumplings (xiao long bao) at Man Tong, Crown Melbourne. Quite expensive 4pc for $8.80. Similar to Din Tai Fung/China Red etc. The soup leaks out very easily on these ones, almost all of them broke before eating due to its very thin skin. These are bigger than Din Tai Fung and contain a lot of soup inside. Tasty and 4 isn't enough..haha

Ambience: Warmed and authentic Chinese decoration. <br/>The food: lots of choices and large portions. We like the signature xiao long bao, the beef flat rice noodles- very soft beef, chicken and salted fish fried five, crispy prawn with salted egg.<br/>Services: staff have limited English but were quite efficient and approachable. The manager is a little bit pushy with when we order the food, trying to recommend the more expensive (not necessarily taste better) dishes

Honestly
Okay the interior looks really fancy and all, however the food is seriously mediocre for a higher price. The seafood was bland, I felt like i was eating rubber. The waiter that served us had poor English because so couldn’t properly communicate with them. Not going to base my rating on that though. I just expected better quality food for that sort of price.

Booked here for fathers day dinner for a table of 13 with 2 high chairs. <br/>Was placed on a table that had 8 chars and two high chairs. <br/>Asked to move to another table then was told that it was booked out. <br/>I had to ask for smaller chairs than the ones that were on the table so that we could all squeeze in. The charis themselves were flimsy and unstable and three time throughout the night I had to knock my chair back into place to avoid it collapsing. <br/>Onto the food, ordered banquet B which seemed like a good idea as its far easier to do this than trawl through 30 odd pages of options for 13 guests and this would have taken alot of our eating time up as we had to vacate the seat by 2 the 2 hour mark. <br/>For $78.80 per person we received: 2 wontons, 2 steamed soup dumplings, 1 pecking duck roll cut in half, a bowl of sweet corn soup that can be had from the food court for $4, then a small/medium sized plate with 2 prawns, 3 pieces of beef fillet, some string beans and a small bowl of fried rice, finally 1 banana cut in half deep fried and served with Ice cream. I was hungry after that. Had I ordered these items seperately off the menu and adjusted to suit the quantity that we were given we would have saved about $300. Ill keep this in mind for next time although it wont be at this venu.<br/>Finally $5 per head for tea............ <br/><br/>Times 8 people $40 of tea................ Thats enough tea to serve the whole resturant for the day.

We wanted to stop over for a quick lunch so we tried out this place and turned out to be pretty good. The food was fresh and not like it’s been on a trolley all day! Enjoyed it and would go back
Foodie Heaven
Beautiful looking place. Food is solid. A little pricey but it's in the casino at the end of the day. Service was excellent. They have unlimited mineral water $7. Highly recommend
Munching With Mel
Hands down to Man Tong’s service, they were very kind in setting out a nice dining table and serviette as well as a warm and cosy cup of tea on a windy wintery night. Food was rather average but the wonton with chilli oil topped the night, where its sweet yet umami taste could compliment every dish, to match our sweet and salty tastebuds. Xiao long bao with truffles was a unique yet rich and deep with flavour. Lastly, the mango pudding and banana fritter each go well with icecream, finishing the night off with a classic bang. Although it was slightly pricey, we kindly give a xiè xiè for filling our stomach with some hearty goodness!

Went here in a group! Got to try several dishes as we were a few people! Didn’t find a single dish I didn’t like! The prawn dishes and dumplings were super as were the rice and noodle dishes we ordered! Highly recommended!
Food Monkey
It had a nice ambience. The staff were very polite and attentive. We ordered garlic chicken and fried rice. The chicken was average I expected more garlic kick. The fried rice was really nice. I would try it again.

From friendly service , to tidy surroundings to a menu open to flavour. A party of 6 were looked after very well colourful dishes amazing spices and portioned perfectly. Over fun night

I like to come here for the yum cha lunch. There’s a menu on the tables that you fill in yourself. Our favorite dish are the chili wontons. To me they are some if not the best chili wontons I’ve tasted. I also highly recommend the chili eggplant and pork mince. It has so much flavour. The bbq pork buns are so light and fluffy and the filling is very tasty. We always finish with the custard buns. So yum.

This is a great alternative is Silks or Spice Temple are booked out. The eggplant and pork mince spicy noodle soup I had totally hit the spot. Service was spot on.

Came for a Sunday lunch for a friends birthday. We had a group of 8 including 2 children. Staff were very accomodating with the children making plenty of room and being very attentive.<br/><br/>We went for a choice of banquet A which was plenty of food. Service was great and food was good. I would recommend if in town try this place. We will be back.

This was my first time at Man Tong Crown , my expectations were kept low due to some of the reviews I’ve read . Hence we sat down on a Sunday for lunch before a movie with great trepidation. All my girlfriends were craving some amazing Chinese ! Fingers crossed we’ve come on a good day🤞 <br/><br/>Tip : Sunday is a good time to try the extensive menu as there was no wait time for a seat for us 👍 <br/><br/>I felt the system to order food (on disposable paper menu with pencils to mark what you want) a strange and almost food court style experience ! However on after thought perhaps a great way to prevent mistakes ?!<br/><br/>The food was quick to come out (almost instantly?!)unfortunately at odd times (some entreé dishes arrived mid way ) and some dishes like the chilli oil dumplings were delivered to the table boarderline cold (nice flavour though!) . Overall depth of flavour and quality of food very good . 🙏 special mention to the eggplant chilli clay pot and the sesame prawn toast . I would skip the Singapore noodles , hardly any chicken. The X.L.B were very nice ! Lots of soup inside 😍<br/><br/>Tip for management: the patrons wine glasses need to be filled more , I personally did not order a glass after my friends glasses arrived to the table pretty empty and hence why they did not order more . PLEASE you need to teach your staff it is incredibly rude to lean over or in front of a guest that is eating and grab the guests water glass and refill it! I was actually shocked ! One of my friends said “ maybe we are in the food court ?“ <br/>Solution : I think a bottle or water on the table would solve this embarrassing problem ! My glass was filled 5 times during an hour lunch. <br/><br/>Most of the staff seemed polite but not well trained . The female Maître d welcomed and fairwelled us which was a nice touch. <br/><br/>Overall I would give it another go if I was heading to the cinema. <br/><br/>Thankyou Man Tong !

Absolutely Devine! We started off with some dumplings and spring rolls. The chive and prawn dumplings are too die for! We then shared a main of pork belly and honey and pepper steak! So tender and tasty! Customer service was at its highest as always.

Man Tong is normally busy and usually have a long wait for table if you try to walk in without reservation. We’re lucky to have a table for 2 right away on Sunday evening but had to leave before 7:45 pm which is next dinner seating. 1 hour time limit for dinner wasn’t an issue for us as we’re only here for dumplings. Their signature xiao long bao was delicious! The dumpling skin was so silky smooth and the meat was so tender. The flavourful broth from inside the dumpling burst into your mouth the minute you bite into it. My partner reckoned it was the best xiao long bao he has ever had!! We also ordered the Szechuan dumplings, Peking duck pancakes and red bean pancakes. Service is good throughout the evening. Inpressive opulent oriental interior design too. My only critic was it’s expensive to charge $5 per head for Chinese tea.
Zhongyq.yuki
Rubbish service, three people waiting for dishes for 40 mins cost $180. Not even provide enough ordered dishes. Never ever gonna go again !!! <br/>

Below average yum cha. We received no advise when we ordered that it was way too much food for our party of 11. Once we realized and wanted to cancel fried rice and noodle items, we were told we could not do so because it has already been cooked (but still took a while to arrive?). Squid tentacles were unchewable. When we passed the feedback on, we were told they would take the price of one plate off but not both as we already ate the first plate. Dumplings were very average. Thick dumpling skin that was chewy.
Willtravelforfood17
We had one of the banquet dinners. The xiao long baos were really good - the skin was thin and the dumplings were soupy. The fried rice was fragrant and well cooked. The food came out at a good pace and we were really full by dessert as the servings were a good size. The service and the atmosphere was good. This place caters more to the Western palate so don’t expect traditional Chinese food here.

Food was 10/10, couldn’t fault it! Service was wonderful, our server Summer was a gem. Would highly recommend. Well worth the price as well!

Terrible service. Gentlemen told me l could come in and order kitchen closing in 5. I went to the bathroom and when l came back 1 minute later lady told me kitchen closed sorry. Get your story right people
I Love Food
Dined here for dinner tonight. Disappointed - very expensive prices for small quantity & average tasting dumplings. We ordered 3 dishes marked as "signature" dishes - ginger prawn & pork dumpling, xiao long bao & pan fried pork dumplings...... expected a lot as marked signature dishes & we were let down as all 3 very average tasting. Also ordered the pork siu mai - this was the only one we liked (not a signature dish). Hubby ordered a beer, served in a glass & was flat, asked for another, served at table this time from the bottle & again flat & tasteless! Service average & hard to understand staff's limited english. We did not enjoy our experience & will not return. Can dine at many other places with better tasting dumplings at much more reasonable prices.

Man Tong Kitchen offered very delicious dim sum/Chinese cuisine (I especially loved the crispy fried quail and prawn toasts!). Service was friendly and attentive. Also loved the premium feel and cozy atmosphere of the restaurant. Can’t recommend it highly enough!

The ambience is beautiful, full of class. Set right next to the casino. The food is alright, I can't say it is particularly better than other Chinese restaurants, however the quality of food is probably better. The staff were lovely and we were well catered to.
Our Foodie Finds
A picture of dumplings at the front of the restaurant was all it took for us to want to eat at Man Tong as we passed to go to the exhibition centre. So we did and clearly ordered wayyyy too much. Luckily we were able to take it away and have it for dinner.<br/><br/>Service was pretty on point as you would expect at these types of restaurants. Quick and delicious and all at a reasonable price. Wouldn't mind having some right now actually. Till next time, this is Our Foodie Find!

Great ambience, great food and great service. They serve authentic shangainese food. Their shanghai dumplings are great and made well, and their nian gao is wonderful but oily. Always great food!

After attending this business I can honestly say that I will never return. A drinks order was placed and it is all that was completed for the entire evening correctly. After sitting for a considerable time we did get presented with an entree, issue was we had not ordered anything yet. The waitress did try to palm it off to the table next to us for the same reply, this entree was then placed on the bar where the public where sitting and after 10 minutes was taken to another table (food contamination or interference). Shortly after we did order, a banquet. The first was presented and was an oily mess. The second course arrived and was burnt and half of it remained to be returned to where it had come from. After sitting for a while, 25 minutes, we did get approached and asked if we had received our soup, see picture attached, not what I feel should have been presented to a paying diner. From then on the waiters / waitresses literally hovered around your table and snatched plates before you could even appreciate or talk about what was received. This whole experience and review for the supposed upmarket nature of the business should make the owner look within and hire some real trained staff. The food was so similar to what is received from the local corner restaurant that it was not worth attending

Amazing service. Waiters very attentive. Wonton in chilli oil was delicious. <br/>Fried pork dumplings was a little under done and soggy<br/>Fried rice was very tasty. <br/>San chow bao nice. <br/><br/>Will be back<br/>A little pricey but <br/>Highly Reccomend

I had the opportunity to dine here with some friends as we had received some food vouchers from Crown. We decided to have dishes from the yum cha menu for lunch. There is a decent amount of dishes to choose from the yum cha and lunch menu. <br/><br/>Our favourite dish for the day was their traditional Xiao Long Bao. The skin was really thin and had a decent amount of soup inside. The portions of the food were reasonable and the customer service was excellent. The pricing was also reasonable for the quality and service, especially since it was inside Crown and a nice environment.

Delicious.walk away feeling very full but not with a heavy stomach. Lychee martini is yummy. The complimentary tea helps cleanse your pallet after each item.

Lovely place, great service and food. It is open till late at night which is a great bonus! Love the ambience of this restaurant. The food is a more refined version of its sister restaurant- Hutong.

Dined here on a Sunday afternoon before going to make a donation at Crown Casino .<br/><br/>Decor is nice , although tables are very close together , so not a place to go if you like a degree of privacy .<br/><br/>Had 3 dumpling dishes that were all very nice & then an Entree Peking Duck which was nice but not great . <br/><br/>Service was very good and the food came out quickly , so if your looking for a quick feed before losing your money or a session at the cinema then Man Tong is not a bad choice
The Official Food Hunters
We ordered the honey chicken, Mongolian beef, Shanghai noodles and pan fried pork dumplings. The pork dumplings were the star of the show! So juicy and such authentic flavours. The rest of the dishes were really nice but tasted like other Asian restaurants with the hefty price tag. So many dishes to choose from with some having decent pricing. But steer away from those overpriced dishes as they taste the same anywhere else. Overall, service was amazing and prompt and very friendly.
Leanne Dando
The ambience and staff are amazing. Definitely nice and cosy however the food is average. I have had the BBQ pork and salt and pepper pork. The salt and pepper had bones in it and it was rather unpleasant to eat. The dumplings are the best ! If you order that then it will be a 5/5!

Finally decided to give Man Tong Kitchen a try after hearing only good things! We were very keen to try some of their "signature dishes", even though they were ones we never usually order at any Chinese restaurants. I must admit the dumplings were good, but nothing to rave about. We ordered: The mixed dumplings, xiao long bao, pan fried pork dumplings, wonton in chilli oil, pecking duck, sizzling Mongolian beef, jellyfish salad and salt and pepper chicken ribs. The XLB and the pan fried dumplings were basically the same, just in a different shape. The only "pan fried" thing about it was the piece on the bottom, not the dumpling. I only like the amount of soup I got in the dumplings but that's about it. The wonton in chilli oil was underwhelming. The dish wasn't hot as if it's been sitting out for a while. The pecking duck was also disappointing. The duck was dry but it's probably because of the lack of sauce. And then came the "signature" Mongolian beef, I never usually order this dish but given it was a specialty I thought why not. Mmm sorry but I wouldn't recommend this dish to anyone. The beef was soft yes.... but I can't find any wow factor about it. It came out looking very unappetising as well. Beef and onion in sauce. Wow? It doesn't stop there, I read good reviews about the jellyfish salad so I couldn't stop thinking about it. Maybe it had boosted my expectations just a bit but my god, this was the worse out of all. We barely even touched it after the first try. Ok so it wasn't all that bad, the chicken ribs was a step up and it wasn't even a signature dish. Although, it seem more salt than salt and pepper, it was still better than the rest. Extremely salty! At least my bf enjoyed it. Overall, not a completely bad experience, but a little disappointing for a top quality restaurant. Also, it may be a good idea to train staff not to pick up bowls or plates without asking, one of the waitresses picked up our sauce bowl and we kind of stared at her until she realised and put it back. I mean, it's good the staffs are attentive... but yeah. Anyway, there are better places in the CBD that will be worth your money.

We received great service on our lunch time visit to Man Tong. The xiao long bao, pan-fried dumplings and wontons in chilli oil were really good - our small gripe was that the chilli oil was not actually chilli. I think dumplings is more of a strength here, as the other dishes have always been a bit hit and miss. Shanghai fried noodles were too watery. The braised pork belly was wonderfully tender but a tad too salty. The ribs with rice cakes though, were sooo overly salty it was very difficult to eat. The barramundi was the least well received, and had that unappealing "fishy" smell.
Truth Hurts
Awful!!! Extremely bad service. Waited almost an hour between courses and then time to pay the bill. They were adamant that it was only one bill per table and we couldn't split which is complete nonsense. Don't waste your time. Food was average

I had too high expectation on this resto. First, even when we already booked, we still have to wait another 30minutes. Second, the food is so average! Spicy Duck sichuan is too salty, their lettuce cup dish did not even taste good! Its a good place to hang out with friends but dont expect much from the food!

This was the most disappointing experience I've ever had. THEN WE GOT THE BILL. <br/>- no greeting.<br/>- I made a booking with specific instructions in order to accommodate to my fathers mental health needs (simply to be placed against a wall or in a corner, yet was placed practically in the middle of the floor) that where not met, even though we where assured they would on the phone.<br/>- Forceful, yet borderline intrusive wait staff. We would take one sip out of our water glass only to be jumped on by staff to refill.<br/>- Forgotten meals. (Came out 20 minutes after the rest of the tables mains)<br/>- Multiple drink mistakes.<br/>- Untold drink chargers (green tea). <br/>- Meals consisted of; tasteless spring rolls, average dumplings, mince meat in a one piece of lettuce (priced at approx. $20). Mains where soggy deep fried prawns, fatty and tasteless pork chunks. Not to mention dry and practically inedible duck that came out 20 minutes after the rest of the tables meals.<br/>Positives lied in the pork jaw meal, so compliments on that. <br/>Unfortunately I never usually see the need to leave a negative review. I get it, from working in hospitality for 12 years I understand things go wrong, but nothing was done to accomodate for doing so (other than a watered down gin and dry). THEN we received a $264 bill for meals that I could get from the food court for equal quality at a substantially lower price. All respect to the chefs but the price never matched the food quality, and the whole situation was such a down fall on my Mothers birthday. <br/>Please think carefully before going to this restaurant.<br/>

unfortunately I could not recommend this restaurant the service was good even if they did forget one of our mains, however the food was very average and way over priced. a bit like paying for top class Champaign and getting flat beer. disappointed
Farhan Khodabux
Prices were sky rocketing, food was ok at best, the staff weren't friendly at all. I wasn't even greeted when I walked in and wouldn't return back to this restaurant.
Mrs Mark
The food was good. Don't get me wrong. The Peking duck was excellent as were the dumplings. But the prices were ridiculous (we had a special fried rice with shrimp for about $36) and the service was quite slow (more than an hour for us to receive our mains). The beef with honey and dried onions was also very good but at the end of the day it's too pricey for what you get.
Taste'n'rate
Very authentic looking restaurant, gives you the vibe you're in China. The food that came out was good, some dishes hit the spot and some could be better. The staff was amazing.

Been meaning to try this place for a while. I’ve heard good things about this restaurant so when my friends and I were meeting up, we figured why not!?. We ordered a few dishes (I don’t have all the photos). We ordered the xiao long bao, pork dumplings, jellyfish salad, cucumber with garlic, won tons in chilli and steamed prawn and pork dumpling.

So was here on a busy Friday night but the service we received from all but one manager was appalling. To start with every other table got water and refresher towels.. Not us. Then green tea just snatched off the table when it was meant to be endless. Manager fixed this but all other staff ignored our requests. Oh and this was our fruit platter What the... Been here prior to this and was excellent. brought my partner and was embarrassed how bad it was Will not be back
Steven Murray
The same as some other reviews. The service was so overbearing that staff basically took the utensils out of you hands. I had to tell them to back off several times, i have never seen anything like it at other high priced Chinese restaurants. To top it off the food was really bland. I had duck and scallop soup and it was absolutely tasteless. Followed by a selection of dumplings that were really bland and awful. After fighting off staff we decided not to order any mains much to the anger of our waitress. Scored 1.5 because it is a nice looking place

We had a dinner with friends here. I had high expectation before coming to this restaurant based on the location and the outlook of the restaurant. However, the food quality is quite average but the price is quite high. Thus I don't think I will come back again.

After a movie we decided to risk this casino restaurant for a quick dinner. I lowered my expectations and suppressed the frugal instincts of my heritage as we entered. It's not news to anyone that a dish in this part of town usually requires some kind of significant sacrificial offering in order to be fed something remarkable or particularly tasty.<br/><br/>Although windowless the place has a beautiful dining area and the food is rather good - we had a selection of xiao long bao, dumplings and soup which was all of a good standard - although the soup was a little cold.<br/><br/>The place was largely empty so we got the FULL ATTENTION of ALL the staff. At one point I had to wrestle my quite obviously far from empty glass of chardonnay off the waitress to prevent her from clearing it, and the dishes were cleared as soon as the last dumpling hit your chops.<br/><br/>I'd estimate you could get the same quality of food while being ignored by the wait staff in Chinatown for about one third of the price.
Onlymidrare
Oh yeah super tasty dumplings! Been here a few times when staying at crown. As always way overpriced restaurant at the casino but food is amazing.
Foodachu
Man Tong, some may say they are expensive but the food taste good not a lot of msg. You can watch them make dumpling at the window, also there are a few private rooms, good for meeting or a celebration.<br/>Wonton in chilli sauce is my favorite. I love how the fried foods don't come out oily or dripping in oil. The waiters and waitress are lovely and nice, they will offer to help if they see you with a pram and small children. The place is spacey so it is pram/children/baby friendly. And also the resturant interior reminds me of something out of a Chinese palaces.
Abhishek Khandelwal
Very wide spread of dishes and great quality food. Attentive service and bright decor!<br/><br/>We started with a serving of dumplings and had a clay pot for the mains, both dishes were 5 star!<br/><br/>Prices are a bit on the higher side, but i guess you pay a premium when you go to rest. in crown.<br/><br/>Will visit again...
Good Food Good Mood
I remember first coming to Man Tong four years ago when it was newly opened and thinking will it ever be less busy? The answer is a resounding no. Ironically enough Man Tong actually means full house in Chinese. A sister restaurant to Hu Tong its the more refined more expensive sibling.<br/>The staff were super accommodating (to the point where they even brought my friend a bag of ice for his sore neck, yes he's super embarrassing we will leave him at home next time). The interior is breathtaking all traditional red and gold with marble pillars. Suitable for a special occasion. We ordered plenty of prawn dumplings, veggie spring rolls and spicy salt and pepper squid (signature dish). The usual suspects but there's certainly more adventurous choices available like Chinese caterpillar fungus if you are game. There are a lot of signature dishes on the menu so we chose two more for mains sizzling Mongolian beef and sizzling chicken with black bean. Everything was delicious, authentic Chinese in a more contemporary way

Was looking forward to going here as i love good chinese. Unfortunately after reassuring the staff that i dont eat pork and i ordered vegetarian spring rolls they still came out pork. The problem was i took a bite first. They took it back with no apology and were upset i cancelled the rest of my order. Walked out and will never return.

Seriously if i can i would give a negative score!! Went to the restaurant on a Tuesday night, flavour was decent but wasn't warm enough. The service... Yes! The service was terrible! We were group of 5, and the girl who served us did NOT make us feel welcomed as she was rolling her eyes the whole time when we were asking her about the menu, very rude behavior!!! The manager there should seriously consider giving their staffs a proper hospitality training!!!
Jane B
Pretty good food served here. All kind of dumplings were definitely very nice. Service was great and venue decor is beautiful. Its a good place to entertain corporate clients for chinese food (its located inside Crown).

Just had the worst crab and sweet corn soup I have ever had. This is a premium Asian restaurant charging premium prices. The soup was made from canned vegetables!! I think Campbell's canned soup tastes better!! Very disappointed!!

The visit to Man Tong Kitchen was an impromptu and special one because it marked our 10th wedding anniversary. We were out in the CBD visiting friends and since our little fellow was getting bored, decided to stop at Crown for some gaming fun at the newly renovated Kingpin entertainment area. Like many, I was only aware of the food court and the high end restaurants but not the mid priced ones located on Level I. A spot of shopping at the retail area landed us in this area and we were delighted to see the dining options. And thus we decided to indulge ourselves at Man Tong Kitchen as a little treat to ourselves.

My favourite late night Asian 😍 I know i rate alot of the places I go very highly but it's because I've liked them and been going to them for soooo long that I can't lie!! The food here is so tasty... honestly better than lucky chan in my opinion. Especially the beef noodles and the prawn dumplings 😍 oh and spring rolls!! Everything 😍 have been coming here for years now ! All of these photos were taken at different times here :)

Located on level 1 of Crown casino precinct this restaurant is not quite advertised as most patrons move ground level or food court or on South bank.<br/><br/>A oriental look of the restaurant welcomes you to a spacious and well decorated comfortable seating.<br/><br/>Wine and spirits on list are average. Expectation at such fine dine restaurant was to experiment some traditional Chinese drinks which were not on the menu. We settled for a GlenMorangie and Havana Club.<br/><br/>For apetisers we ordered won ton soups with noodles. This was extremely tasty and we were almost about to call in for second round. This followed with Seafood San choi bao and Shredded chicken with szechuan chilli. The chicken served on lettuce was spicy and particularly appealing. Seafood apetiser was average and required generous soy sauce addition.<br/><br/>For mains we ordered Szechuan style fish fillet in chilli oil and steamed rice. The size of mains was very very generous and could feed twice the number of people that were on table!<br/><br/>Did not have any desserts. The cheque was not really too bad considering location, ambience and serve size. Staff I believe need more training in terms of explaining patrons with options available and with some refined communication skills.<br/><br/>Revist : Yes
Food Dine Roll
Bad service. Bland food. Over priced.<br/><br/>Booked a table of 12 people a while back to gave our farewell to one of our dear colleague.<br/>We got seated in the nice round corner table which was fairly private. I ordered cocktail and it was ok. Nothing amazing about it.<br/><br/>We then tried to order but the service kept pulling faces at us. The attitude was to the point that it was the worse i have ever seen or experience and this including when i went to yumcha in hk.<br/><br/>Most times we couldn't even get them to notice us. 4 of us raised our hands all at once at one point and they were all ignoring us. Or just never looked up ever.<br/><br/>Food was ..nothing special. you will get a lot better yumcha or dumplings dishes in China Town for $4.90 (this was $12+ on everything. 3 pieces of dumplings? Really?). The quality was not spectacular for the price.<br/><br/>We didnt pay $10/head for this experience, the bill total was $470+ and this is the service we got. Its just not up to the standard to be in crown. Will never come back.

The food here is good. Service was good, but that may have been because they had too many wait staff on and they were bored. The xiao long bao is delicious, though too big it fit in your mouth for the one bite. We had 2 noodles dishes which were good. But in general this place is pretty expensive for good.

From succulent Peking Duck and traditional Xiao Long Bao to a selection of indulgent banquet menus, Man Tong Kitchen is a traditional Chinese restaurant that offers dumpling delicacies with impressive formal dining.

Ma Tong in Southbank is an elegant classy Chinese restaurant with a menu as long as a Ph.D thesis!  The place has a nice vibe, great decoration and atmosphere, and different eating areas. Poshy, therefore, of my liking.   I have tried a few things there and I was quite pleased with them all.<br/><br/>The stuffed eggplant with crab mince in black been sauce was lovely, but I didn't think the sauce favoured the seafood. My least preferred.<br/><br/>The duck meat spring rolls were actually very good, with plenty of meat inside, crunchy, not too oily outside, and quite filling! One of the best spring rolls I have eaten in Melbourne.<br/><br/>The wontons in  chilli sauce were simply excellent. The sauce wasn't as spicy as in other Chinese eateries, but the flavour was wonderful, the dumplings were properly sealed, not overcooked, full of yummy bulky filling. Fresh and delicious!<br/><br/>I couldn't pass something I had never tried, the fried ice-cream. This was utterly disappointing. Perhaps I had false expectations; I expected the fried crust to be at least warm, but it was all cold. The ice-cream inside was too thick, not too nice, and the side pieces of  syrupy fruit too sweet.   <br/><br/>They have Yumcha a la carte but not traditional one.<br/><br/>I found part of the menu similar to Din Tai Fung but more sophisticated and varied, and with plenty of dishes that are very Chinese: tripe, chicken feet, claypots, live fish/seafood, preserved eggs, a few Sechuan and Shanghai dishes, from mild to super-hot.<br/><br/>Chinese do share at the table, so many of the dishes on offer are for sharing. Yet, I shared some of them with  my belly :)) The Claypots are huge!<br/><br/>The service was fast and good, but some of the girls were a bit matter of fact. The one that attended to me most times was really lovely, yai!, and I thought she had the best possible attitude and made a positive impression on me.<br/><br/>Crown prices here, so everything you put in your mouth will be expensive, but some of the small dishes and dumplings weren't too bad. The banquets are a bit pricey and I don't think they are worth it unless you go and eat with a group of people or simply with people who eat a lot.<br/><br/>I always going to a Chinese restaurant and seeing Chinese families and people eating there, always a guarantee that you are getting decent Chinese food not a pseudo thing.
World In A Bite
Ok I was dragged to have dinner here. <br/><br/>Decors & atmosphere 1.5 - typical fine dining chinese restaurant. I love the bird cages decoration & the cool vodka bottles🍾<br/>Service 1.5 - lovely service.. The owners were super nice & looking after us well (special treatment 😎)<br/>Food 1 - I didn't think the foods were excellent but my Shanghai chinese friend said the foods tasted like on China 🙄... I love the smoked fish dish, tofu dish, Sichuan chilli fish & the red bean crispy roti like dessert! 😋

It was a busy night at Crown and was a long wait at Man Tong Kitchen. But I was craving Chinese Food. So they took our number and rang us as soon as a table was available. The place is pleasant and staff attentive. I love their Crab Meat & corn soup. Their ice tea was delightful and those famous soupy dumplings are just delicious! We tried many more dishes but did not stand out like the soup & dumplings.

Ate here for late lunch on a Sunday arvo. We were promptly directed to a table by the front staff and provided the menus. From ordering, it took about 15 mins for food service. I must say that the food were delicious!!! 👍 AND I would favour this resto slightly above the other Chinese restaurants I have previously reviewed. For those of you looking for that 'well-seasoned' wok taste, I found it here. The seafood combination noodles was our favourite and the roast duck was on point. We also had the pork and prawn dumplings which came out steaming hot! I would only suggest to the staff to ease off slightly on pouring the drinks for us. However this is a very minor negative that I experienced BUT the food definitely tasted great!

Terrible terrible price, was expecting a good meal since everything on the menu is at least 2 times more expensive than other Chinese restaurant, but disappointed, nothing special at all. <br/><br/>They charge pressed watermelon juice 15$ one small glass<br/>They charge 10$ even for the hot water! <br/><br/>Never never come to this restaurant
Larna Manson
I enjoyed our dinner at Man Tong. The servers were lovely and the food was great. My only negative comment would be that one of our group was served all of her food and finished it before the others got theirs. Not a biggie though. Definitely book! Queue was huuuuuuge.
Raquel Ramirez
Service was good but the food was okay.... not the best Chinese food I've ever had and very pricey for the same food that I can get at my local.
Don Djoe
The dishes were well presented and the service was great. The food though was just okay and with those price tags, it's barely recommendable. The worst though was the fried dumplings... It's probably one of the worst I've ever had. They were cold and tasteless
CL
Went to man tong after a work function and absolutely enjoyed it. Strongly recommend red chilli oil wonton and it's the best dish amongst all we ordered.
Sabrina Sha
My new favorite chinese now! All the dishes are tasty...being a bit pricy for chinese food..but the quality and flavour of the food is really good.huge variety in the menu, from yum cha dumplings to crab, abalone and lobster. The only difficultyis to pick the dishes u want order. They have claypot silken toufu cooked with sea urchin, which is really delicious and innovative that i havent this dish anywhere else before. <br/> The serving size is big too. ..service is attentive...much better than silk!! Dont waste ur money in silk.

Nice Chinese restaurant in crown casino. <br/>Seldom have steamed fish after I came to Melbourne. Felt like home again. <br/><br/>The price here is more expensive than those you find in the CBD, but it's still acceptable. Mediocre food, at least you won't get disappointed.
Jayden Kobe
Because the location is close to my apartment, it is a place I always visit.<br/><br/>I think the steam fish is quite yummy. I can even pair with three bowls of rices. <br/><br/>I really appreciate the beautiful decor here. You definitely can see the Chinese traditional display here. <br/><br/>However, don't expect to have any surprise here. It is just a very normal and traditional Chinese restaurant.
Ryan Hearps
The food was great and very well priced. The dumplings were my favourite. Above all else though the staff were amazing, so attentive and polite. I didn't realise until after our wine came to the table that it must have been a bottle that they had to go and get from storage as they popped out and then returned with it. An absolutely fantastic place and one I would highly recommend.
Michi Mort
Had dinner with a couple of friends here after a meeting, safe to say the dumplings were amazing as my manager has already suggested!! Peking duck was also on point, mind you this was also the first place I'd ever tried soup dumpling, thanks for the great experience
Chad
We always walk by this place when we come down the escalator from the movies in The Crown. There is usually a line. Hopefully this doesn't sound bad, but we watched Kung Fu Panda 3 and when we came down the escalator I saw one of the chefs in the window making fresh dumplings, it all just fit together. No line, we sat right down and I loved it! Service was also very good. So why only "3.5"? The problem was not the food (it was delicious), the issue is that I kept comparing it to my favorite dumplings. And if my favorite dumplings ever were/are a "5", then these are a 3.5. Again, not to say it wasn't great, I would absolutely without any reservation would return and dine here again. Hopefully all that makes some sense. And I find myself liking hot & sour soup more and more and more, I just love it!!!
Rachel Jaye Honner
Staff and venue were lovely. Ordered veg dumplings aswell as veg San Choi Bow, both were delicious and of high quality. Put in order for mains and then soon after staff came around to advise last orders must be put in soon as kitchen closing. Patiently awaited our mains and then eventually queried the whereabouts-it appeared staff forgot to process order and as the kitchen had shut, we were unable to get anymore food. Staff were very apologetic (it was an honest mistake, we weren't too upset about it) and offered us a free drink to compensate. We were happy with this. Overall great experience, yes little pricier than you'd pay in say China town, but worth it for the high standard of service/cleanliness.
