Review Margo's - Melbourne

Robert Kley Lageano
Amazing experience. We ordered the Salmon and Spaghetti Bolognese followed by the New York cheesecake which was out of this World. You most definitely need to have the NY cheesecake here, I promise you wont regret.

Staff is very friendly and politr. Food is nice. Dessert selection is poor. The coffees were luke warm than hot. Large latte was all foam and less coffee.
Taylah O
Food was fantastic and very affordable, a big breakfast, croissant, bacon and 2 drinks was under $40. Our server Billy was lovely and super helpful. We would definitely recommend!

Really affordable option in the city, that sells some really good quality food! It's a shame that it's a casino exclusive, I think it would be great for businesses if families could have access to this restaurant too! Also had a really great dessert option, which was $10 for coffee and cake! Highly recommend! Will continue to go here! My only criticism is that I wish there was a greater selection of meals that were available!

Located inside the casino area, no bookings needed, pretty casual and laid back. Reasonably priced no frills mains with changing specials. Steak is consistently good for the price, however the desserts we have had here have been average at best, in particular the crumble which was very dry. Stick to the mains and coffee and can’t go wrong.

We went to the first time since Covid started. Before Covid the food was very very nice. But today we ordered beef cheek and barramundi fish. It was shocking. No flavour. Mash potatoes tasted like yeast. Very very disappointed. Not recommended! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!
Francis Elefano
Wow, good value for money restaurant right in the casino proper. To top it off my pork meal for $19 also covered Casino parking as part of a deal. Well pleased. Will eat here again.
Nicholas Lamm
Get a vegan avocado toast here at half the price of the other restaurants . Only downside is constant jangle of pokies in the background and vague smell of disinfectant on the tables. Opens early if you need bite before heading to airport . Baked items looked really good but didn’t get to try them .
RR
Fantastic price & recommend you everyone

Fine, but not great. Ordered steak medium well, came bleeding on plate. <br/>Staff were unimpressed when I asked them to grill it some more.<br/>Salad was under seasoned and was a bowl of lettuce mainly with a piece of cucumber, a soggy tomato and some grated carrots. Pepper sauce was enjoyable as were their chips.

went there for quick meal because didn't wanna get out of casino floyer, order 5 choice meal deal from bain marie,  lady was serving i politely ask her that i don't eat meat so instead of 5 choices eat 3 choices but i would like to add brocoli instead 2 extra choice, as she was serving meal one of the lfat asian Chef ran out from kitchen and order lady to not to serve more than 3 pieces of Brocoli, i was like what?????<br/>i think he should stick with cooking than dealing with customer service. i found he was very rude and don't know what he's doing. food was crap because shit load of BUTTER in vegetable and potatoes, putting in 1K.G of butter does not make food great, when do they learn this?? NEVER go there again

Went for a movie at village cinemas and my friend told me about this place where there is cheap food. It's a nice place with a caring atmosphere even in the middle of the casino.<br/><br/>The prices are very reasonable. 3 items for 7. 50 and 5 for 12. My friend got a rice, chicken and roast potatoes. I got the pasta with garlic sauce, roasted ham and shim dims.<br/>They were alil dry and just okay to be honest, nothing special about anything.<br/><br/>The cheapest option in the building, not the best by any means though. A good choice if you're looking for a cheap option in this expensive crown building.
Jocelyn
A quick and easy meal and not too expensive. Portion is slightly small and located within the casino. Not much to say here, water and everything will be self served.
CoupleOFoodies
Cheap, fresh, good service and lively as you'd expect. We go here when we're in the mood for something cheap and have a plan around the Southbank area. Don't count it out because of its location...its worth trying!
Crabapples For Lunch
Margo's is a large diner located inside the Casino area of Crown that, quite frankly, reminds me of a retirement home dining hall in Florida. The food is all surprisingly cheap considering this is Crown, but the quality isn't fantastic. That is quite likely intentional - they want casino goers to spend as much time within the confines of the casino as possible, hence why they are providing cheap food within the casino area.<br/><br/>We've come here a couple of times for a cheap meal (under $10 - wow right?), and it most likely won't wow you, but when even the food court in Crown charges north of $15 for a meal, we're not complaining. There's a decent variety and you can mix and match, so it's worth coming here just to fill your belly if you're in search of a cheap meal. Just don't lose your money to the slots and tables on the way here!

I suggest all the critics lay off this place a bit, otherwise the whole crown complex will sell $20 won ton noodles and $18 focaccias. This place is by far the most value friendly place in the area. If I am being totally honest the food is 2/5 for taste/quality. However, it adequately fills you and that’s all you really need sometimes! Beef pie was too thick/doughy in the pastry. Barramundi was ok - skin wasn’t crispy. Sticky date pudding was excellent. Give it a go if you feel a little tight in the pocket after a loss on the games!
Pradeep Gunasekaran
Sort of alright, shouldn’t complain a lot as it’s the most reasonably priced in the casino . Taste wise meat, chicken , pie and gravy are ok. The chips were bad. A kinda place you go to fuel yourself not for the taste, sort of what porn does.
Steven Gu
Margo at Crown. Nice greenish color and very obvious in Crown. Food was ok and coffee was good. Nice place to chill out a bit after the gamble battle and once get refreshed and then go back to the battlefield again. Haha
Starr
Been here a few times with the family. Tried their special deal (meal + wine + parking all for $15-20) which included steak (bit dry but brother says this fluctuates), barramundi (not bad), pork (dry, didn’t like this one but the mash was good). Beef pie was meh (would skip this next time). Spaghetti and sticky date pudding were quite nice. No real complaints tbh for the price and value. Also you get crown points if this is ur thing lol.

Came out with friends for birthday at crown - friend had points we went to eat at Margo's -,not a never u had to pay - was disgusting service is atrocious no standard in serves person before me got massive serve I had hardly any given to me which didn't matter in the end as it was awful it was slops seriously for amount people spend to be dished up this food ..., I feed my dogs better <br/>Crown seriously u call this food ? <br/>Would not recommend this place to my worst enemy
Cray
Went here with a friend for my first Margo experience. Winter special menu, $15-20 for meals. Picked the Rib eye with chips and salad $20, included a glass of wine. Steak was cooked to my liking of medium rare, filled me up! Staff were friendly. The place has a bit of an RSL feel, suited me fine. I was about to catch up with my friend away from all the huddle and bustle of crown! Will be back.
Good Food Good Mood
Mumsy loves a spin around the pokies and resultantly I've dined here on more than one occasion. It's not exactly good quality but it's cheap and does all the pub classics although there's no atmosphere whatsoever unless you count the musical sounds of the slot machines. It's housed within the gambling area so you certainly wouldn't go out of your way to go here but it's adequate for a quick and inexpensive bite
Fizz Hafiz
Great value for money, but that's it. Serving was huge but it didn't really taste that great. I suppose when the price is low, you'd expect average food.
We Nomz
Crown currently has a $5 feast of fish and chips, pie and chips or chicken schnitzel and chips. The chicken has more crumbs than the meat itself, and the pie was not served warm. Better off to order their $7.50 meal from their hot counter daily selection.
Split The Bill
If your looking for a value for money in the Crown complex, look no further.<br/>I had the fish and chips, salad and glass of wine and my friend had chicken schnitz, salad and glass of wine both meals were for $10 only.<br/>The chips were not too fresh today, but has been good in the past.

Looking for a decent hot meal on the cheap? Margo's is the the place! I had not been here since the renovations but it's now a lot more open and has a better feel to this venue which is located on the gaming floor inside crown casino.<br/><br/>There are not many places you can get a fresh cooked meal from in crown on the cheap, that's why for a quick lunch stop, this place is perfect.<br/>Of course it's not the best food and of course the portion size is on the smaller scale but you get what you pay for. <br/><br/>Came here with a colleague for a real cheap meal as I was craving a steak and he wanted something seafood but we had already spent a lot of money on lunch over the week. We were able to get a medium-rare steak with chips, gravy, onion rings and salad for $18.50 and fish, chips and salad for $16! We even drank water which they have multiple little water serving stations around the tables. <br/><br/>The food was really good and totally worth the money spent, I will definitely be coming back to try the rest of the menu out!
Dana
Margos oh my god<br/>How can this establishment operate in a place like the crown The food is the most disgusting slop I have ever tasted ....<br/>Shame on you crown
Loves Food
Nothing too fancy here. Very basic menu that tastes decent. Quick cheap bite. Worth a shot if you wanted some regular food or coffee and cake.
"JT" Jeffrie Trika
Should spend money on their food not the renovations ...<br/><br/>Been coming here once in a while when accompanying family and friends gambling or gaming as it is the politically correct terminology at Crown Casino.<br/><br/>Establishment should note that money is better spend on the quality of their food rather than their renovation.<br/><br/>Foodie will remember your food and comeback for more rather than your comfortable and stylish interior.
Tony
I have been here. The environment and ambience is basic being inside Crown. The food was just ok. It was ok for a cheap meal that pulls you there. Nothing about it teally that drives you back;(
Bianca Bee
Margo's cafe makes great coffees and croissants. The pastries and cakes are very reasonably priced compared to most other cafes in Crown. The staff are friendly and quick.
Tom
Lets be honest this place might not be the gastronomic mecca of melbourne. It doesn't offer the best culinary experience. Its in a middle of a casino ffs... But, for. $7.50 for a 3 meats course. I seriously don't think you can get a better deal than this anywhere in melbourne.
Aki
A cafe situated inside the casino: Unlike other eateries in the foodcourt, busy and packed with people and lines. This place is so much quieter. They have a varieties of desserts, salad and meat dishes. I ordered a chocolate mousse and a latter. The chocolate mousse is very nice, smooth and full with flavour, which I didn't execpt to have in a small cafe inside a casino.
Foodie123
Came across this place was actually surprised I wasn't quite hungry so I ordered nachos and my friend ordered the Parma very quick service and the price is very good considering they are situated at the casino. Would definitely go back.
Paul
Hadn't been there for about 10 years it has definitely changed a lot had chicken parmigiana which was very nice but didn't really like the ambience but would probably go back for the food eat and get out .
TresHungry
Located inside the casino at crown, Margo's can get a little crowded at times so there may be a wait for a table. The food is expensive for such small serving sizes, and it's very, very mediocre, bordering on bad. My lamb skewers were alright - acceptable but nothing to shout about, but the burger my dining companion ordered was terrible. He said it was one of the worst burgers he had ever eaten. It didn't look very aesthetic either. I would rather eat at the food court than here.
Lily Isabella Parker
Bad, cold food that doesn't come as described, bad value, service doesn't exist. Only plus is that it's open very late. Very disappointing for crown even as a budget option
Epicurious
If you visit crown, there is no way you can miss out this cafe and restaurant at the ground level of the casino arena. It used to be open for long hours and once you'd loose enough bucks at the roulette table, you can always uplift your mood with the delicious berry cheesecake or mud cakes at margos. It offers both fine dining and quick bites at its cafe. The food is average but the desserts can be tried. <br/>Ambience: 7/10<br/>Food: 6/10<br/>Staff/ 7/10<br/>Waiting: 5/10<br/>Value for money: 6/10
Julietrewella
Disgusting. Cold food slow service waiters walking round doing nothing never again
Em Belden
I must say though Margo's do have a very appetising standard menu too and have a great showcase of fresh fish, meats and coruscation's for you to admire when you walk through to your table. Reasonably priced and good servings were seen coming from the kitchen, so it could be worth a shot for me to go back and see what they really have to offer from there menu.
Tweedle
It was good and very filling but a little bit too greasy for my liking. With the main came fries and a lot of them, I think they should have added salad and reduced to portion of fries just to make the meal more colourful and make me feel less like a fatty.
Foodlovesmymouth
...This was a massive disappointment. The fish pieces were so small, and the fish was so rubbery, like it's from those frozen fish packets. Totally should have said no when they said they ran out of flathead =( And they were not very generous with the french fries either... lucky P could eat my pasta otherwise he would have been still hungry afterwards =/<br/>
Gastrology
...The veal has good flavour, it was tender and falling off the bone. The mash was deliciously buttery.
Jenster
...the Veal Shank and its as delicious as ever. My plate was licked clean. The veal was bursting with flavour and falling off the bone. The mash was deliciously buttery =)
Secret_chef
The 430gm grain-fed rib eye steak is an excellent choice for any steak lover. Mine was cooked to the way I like it, medium and no, I did not have to send this particular steak back to the kitchen. Adored the shoe-string fries. Not too sure about the sauce though, the mushroom sauce tasted rather blend. Maybe I should have chosen the red wine sauce instead.

Terrible. Waste of money. I ordered the lobster tonight and was extremely disappointed as when I got my meal the flesh in the lobster was the size of a prawn tail. The waiter didnt even know what it was and called it crab?!? I was unable to eat the salad as it contained bean shoots (no definition of what was in the salad when I ordered) so all I really ate was hot chips... definitely not worth $32.50! Feel absolutely cheated. Also when we asked for water the lady gave us one bottle for 8 people! We had to ask for more water 3 times before anyone gave us any. Still sitting in my seat with steam coming out of my ears.....
Studona
Service terrible. Thought we'd try Margot's before going to the theatre. Arrived about 5.30 and the restaurant was only half full. We were shown to a table straight away and given a menu. After 20 minutes no-one had bothered to even ask if we wanted a drink, although the wait staff walked past us several times. The table next to us had some very unhappy overseas tourists, who had waited for an hour before they decided to leave. Needless to say we also got up and left. Too many good restaurants in this area to waste your time here. Tia To upstairs at Crown was a much better option. Fantastic food and service.

MY STEAK WAS STIFF LIKE CHEWING A TYRES. Sorry for my comment, but you guys just don't get it to cook the right steak, I am a chef my self, and this was a disgrace to the kitchen skills. You should employ good chef instead cheap staff who does not how to cook.
Gkl8872
Crap Service Staff. I'm in two minds about this restaurant. It all comes down to who is looking after you. Food used to be better with the old Margo's, now it's pretty much fast food Margo's (just can't wait to get people out the door). Have not really have good experience with the new Margo's
Gavin Southern
We had to wait half an hour before we got seated. New Year's Eve, forgiven.<br/>Then, we sat down ordered, 30-40 minutes later, we got our food.<br/><br/>Spaghetti Marinara. Small serve but, quality was very good so, can't really complain.<br/><br/>Porterhouse steak was nice and not over cooked. The size of the steak was very decent too.<br/><br/>Atlantic salmon good but a bit over cooked. Salad and chips were good. Managed to finish everything on the plate.<br/><br/>We all gave them 4/5

Mrs Carolina Pointer. I was in your café yesterday with 3 other people and only one of us was happy with the food. We all had different meals my husband had the steak sandwich there was a lot of gristle and fat about a third , l had the seafood plateter the fish was not of a nice taste for some reason also my mother had the Margo burger and she said that it was dry in taste only half of it was only half eaten , it was a sad ending to a Christmas lunch . The only meal that was eaten fully was the salad my cousin ordered . As the meal came to $85.00 that was a lot for not to be happy with what got . I did tell our servicer that we were not happy with the food then we payed and left . <br/>Yours Carolina

A waste of time. I went to Margo's last night for dinner with workmates and frankly it was a waste of time and money. I got the pumpkin pasta which cost $20.50 and it such a rip off because there was nothing to it. I complained but my waitress was so unhelpful. The wait staff didn't know anything about the menu and were not at all friendly. The food is not worth the prices they charge.
Natalie Grant
AWFUL food. I have been twice since its been renovated and i will never go back. The food has been sitting and its cheap and nasty.
Mzstressball
Gave it some chances, NEVER again!. How disappointing that an establishment like this inside Crown is allowed to continue.<br/>Sure it has cheap meals, most aren't worth eating as they come out 5 minutes after I ordered when my drinks haven't even made it to the table that quick. Goes to show, this food isn't freshly made, it's been sitting there in a warmer waiting for a sucker like me to order it.<br/>Then forget about the service. You're practically non existent after you have ordered, you can't even get the attention of the wait staff, they are too busy chatting, walking around looking busy but no one comes to see if you need anything. They don't even clear the tables from previous patrons. You want to sit somewhre but WHERE?! Each table has plates, mugs, glasses on them yet the staff walking around looking so busy don't even bother to clean up.<br/>This place is a joke, cannot believe someone from Crown office hasn't walked past and noticed the image this place is portraying.<br/>I'll never return here. Gave it one too many chances and each time disappointed than the last.
JohnWee
Suckered into coming here for the $18 steak meal. It was okay, cant complain for the price. But not coming back for the food, will definitely try other restaurants.

Will not like to go back :( .... Will not like to go back :(<br/>We went for a team lunch on Friday afternoon. Surprisingly this place wasn't packed and rightly so<br/>After all who would waste money and time on this place when there are ample good places in crown to eat.<br/>Staff: the waitress had no idea about the menu. I asked what ragout in the menu was. She replied it's just a fancy word. I further asked fancy word for what? She says something creamy, I don't know! <br/>Service: each course took an average of 30 mins to arrive. So we had to wait for about 20 mins for mains after we had finished our entree. Same goes for dessert.<br/>Portions: smallest ever! The fish of the day which was served as a main was a tiny tiny bit which doesn't even qualify to be an entree.<br/>The bill took another 10 mins. So a 2 course meal of entree and main from the lunch special menu tool around 1.5 hrs.<br/>Total waste of time and money :(

Disappointed. My friend from sydney and I ate there last night and must say l was very embarrassed as I chose the restaurant. My Margo's Burger tasted like a frozen burger you buy in the supermarket. It had a strange after taste that comes with some processed foods. Not enjoyable at all. My friend's Caesar Salad was very basic. Lucky she added on the Calamari other wise it would have been extremely bland. Not even a poached egg was served on it, just one hard boiled egg. At $19.50 each meal , they were more like $10 meals. Very very disappointed.
Baby G
Supper here, nice steak in the mid-night. I would come back soon for World Cup.
Natalie
Staff are unattentive and rude. They look like they hate being there. Extremely off putting. Food very average
Rob
Very very average, needs improvement. Female maitre de had an abrupt and dismissive attitude, certainly not warm and welcoming .No water provided to our table. Wrong sauces delivered with the steaks which had too much gristle. Wouldn't bother again.
I-eat
Avoid. Over priced and not worth it! Worst decision to eat here.

Bad Food. This place has gone down hill.<br/>Small portions & tasteless, cheap food. <br/>Such a huge place with good potential, but since the makeover it has changed for the worse.<br/><br/><br/>-----24 May, 2014-----<br/><br/>Terrible. Porterhouse steak was full of fat through out and dry, my friends meal was also bland and tasteless. The service is poor, standing around waiting to be seated but no service. I have tried Margos twice now and will not return. <br/>It was better before they renovated, it is now like a cheap cafe.
Rita.D
Horrible service and waiters just ignored us! Food is average but good value for money.
Rino
Looks cheap, tastes cheap. Should have known by decor and ambience. Steak was dry, stick date pudding ok although the sauce was dry and not runny.
Takisha Brady
Ordered a Parma and it was cold, returned it but the next wasn't much better, just the plate was hotter! <br/>Received a free desert, definitely get what you pay for here

Nice lunch, good prices. Margos inside Crown just off the gaming floor, a group of 8 of us went for Mothers day lunch. Fast friendly service, 4 of us had the Margos Burger, it was quite nice good size and neither too dry nor nor too mushy. Served with fries it looked good tasted nice and was about $18. Others at the table had Ravioli and lasagne, no complaints from them. This is not meant to be an intimate Michelin star restaurant, (there is no shortage of these within the complex). It is here inside Crown so you get a good sit down meal at a reasonable price, then continue on playing, and I think it hits the mark.
ANGRY COFFEE MAN
Major disappointment, avoid like the plague. This place uses FROZEN food. I paid my friend and myself, came to $41.50 for the tiniest fish basket I have ever seen, and myself ordering the "mexican burger". It should be renamed to hexican, because it was certainly a cursed burger.<br/><br/>Instantly I noticed my friends fish size was ridiculously small, it looked like something off a kids menu. In addition, it was axiomatic that the seafood was from a packet out of the Woolworths or Coles frozen food Aisle. <br/><br/>My burger patty was nice, that was about it. Some avocado, a piece of lettuce, and some weird beans side. Portion of chips and the size of the burger was tiny. <br/><br/>AVOID.
Pearso091
Would have preferred to eat a rubber boot!!. My wife and i ate here after the traditional Anzac day clash at the MCG. After a 45 minute wait, we were seated. My wife ordered a bowl of vegetables and chips, and i ordered a chicken burger. The chicken burger was burnt, tough and unable to be eaten. My wife's vegetables were frozen straight from a packet, and literally STILL FROZEN! All up a bowl of frozen vegetables, a burnt, tough chicken burger and a couple of side bowl of chips, plus one glass of the house Shiraz cost $50. I never complain but certainly let them know about the poor quality on this occasion, only to be told you should have let the waitress know at the time. <br/>I certainly won't be going back and wouldn't recommend my worst enemy going here, do yourself a favour and visit the food court, or pay a bit more and go to one of the beautiful restaurants just outside at Southbank.
Elmo
Had the lunch special, $10. Was about to order the spaghetti to be safe. But the table next door looked like they enjoyed the steak. So I ordered a medium rare. It came out medium well and chewy as. I just ended up leaving it on the plate and just ate the mash. I guess u pay for what u get.
Gemma Paine
What a waste of money. I can appreciate that a restaurant in crown is going to be very busy, so I don't mind waiting the 20 or so minutes that we did at the bar. Though when theres no one there to serve you and when they finally do and they say they don't know how to make a cocktail it's pretty annoying. When getting our table (for two) the actual restaurant was only about half full with many empty tables, why the wait? Ordered the Margo's beef burger, a signature burger of their's - and honestly how can you muck up a burger? They managed to. So disgusting, neither me or my partner could eat it, took one bite and just left. Service was terrible, no professionalism at all. Will not be returning there.
Caitlinglow
Very disappointed. My partner and I dined here for the first time on our anniversary, and were very much underwhelmed by both the service and the food. Given that we dined during the monday-thursday special, it would be understandable we would not receive 5-star cuisine, but this was a terrible meal from the beginning. Our drinks, ordered upon arrival did not actually arrive at our table until well into our main meal. The gap between the main and dessert was exceedingly long, so much so half the restaurant had emptied by the time our overbearingly sweet pavlova and bland as plaster cheesecake arrived. Sorry Margo's, won't be returning again.<br/>Ps: We did not even receive the free parking voucher as promised in the special deal!!! 0 stars, what a catastrophe of a restaurant.

Why the change. Ate there in 2012 & had a great meal, fresh seafood & top notch meat, 5 hungry blokes went home satisfied.<br/>Went back last Sunday night confident of a good feed, even talking others into the place.<br/>What a difference, 400 Rib Eye would have been lucky to be 250g, something horribly wrong with the pepper sauce, & seafood platter a disgrace mashed prawn meat, frozen fish, didn't even bother with the scallops.<br/>Queried the change over 2 years, staff were friendly but embarrassed when we paid. The boss offered round of drinks which we accepted. Had no trouble with the staff, chefs or the manager but whoever purchases the food needs to take a long hard look.<br/>Had to wait for tables in 2012 2/3rds empty now, the punters know.
Magsmuir
Just came back from a birthday dinner at Margo's at Crown Casino. Very disappointed with the service and the food. I ordered Caesar Salad and there was no bacon and the croutons were hard as a rock! My companion ordered a beer which never came, even when we asked twice the beer never appeared. Very poor service and food. Would not recommend this place in fact would tell everyone I know NOT to got there!
Bear
Toughest salmon steak ever. We came as a group and read the reviews so weren't expecting much but.... the salmon steak was way way too dry ... I asked for a blue steak and it came medium rare (even though it had a little "rare" flag on it). Dessert-oreo cheescake was lukewarm and dry like it had been waiting on the table for an hour. I'm never coming again and definitely not recommending this place. Expected a lot more from a restrauntin crown.
Vanessa Neagle
WORST food I have tasted in my life. Service is terrible and slow. I ordered a Parmi and got told 45 minutes later they had ran out only to see them serving them up when we left. Instead I had the pulled pork with coleslaw. No pork just about and the worst bread bun. The few chips it was served with were so overlooked I had to pile on tomato sauce. It's so revolting and the atmosphere. Don't waste your time and money. It's that bad you will regret it.
Tyler Holden
Absolutely shocking! Food was ok however the table service was disgraceful, waited an hour and a half for mains and another hour and a half for desert. 7 chefs and a half full restaurant and still such a wait, skeleton staff, will not return
Terry Conway
Very slow
Louise R
I ordered a steak sandwich - steak was fatty and chewy and the turkish bread dry and stale. Very disappointing. Herb bread was very nice and hubby enjoyed his burger
BabyJ
We ordered grilled salmon with chips and salad, the fish was dry, the salad was limp and not fresh, the plating was ugly. Also ordered oyster kilpatrick, it was burnt and played badly. For the price of the food here, better to go to other restaurants near the Yarra river, still inside the crown casino.
Nat
Was thinking to try the Mon-Thu special offers as advertised in TV, had looked at the menu and term and condition - none mentioned about children are not allowed.. apparently the cafe is located inside the casino, and our kid was rejected to enter ... very disappointed, at least the management could be more careful putting the condition in the fine print...

Worst food in crown!! The s.... Worst food in crown!!<br/>The soup if you look at the picture had oil beads through it and at least 3TBSP oil on top as a garnish?? Seriously who puts oil on potato and leek soup. All I could taste was oil even the bread that came with was coated in oil. My partners calamari wasn't even drained and was sitting again in a pool of oil. The steak was average bit grissly. The apple pie was again cooked in the oven then microwaved so you needed a arak knife to eat it. Will never eat here again, staff unattentive and was a quiet night. Poor!

Great food, hate the venue. We have been going to Margo's for approximately 12 years now, have not had a bad meal ever, love the promotions they have<br/><br/>We went back since their new renovations, must admit I absolutely HATE it, the colours, are just awful<br/><br/>That being said, I had the $32 rib eye and it was one of the best cuts of meat I've ever had, friend had the porter house which was just as good, thought the sauce was bit average and for some reason I really enjoyed the chips as well<br/><br/>Overall, great service, great food, great price, yucky fit out<br/><br/>Will continue to come back
HB
Filthy!. We ended up here as everywhere else was fully booked. Unfortunately orders were placed prior to being seated. None of the tables in the area we were seated had been cleaned, we had 2 tables which had bits of salad, chips and other refuse on the table. We asked them to clean it and the man just used his hand and brushed the rubbish onto the floor which was already dirty. I would not recommend that anyone go here.
AdL
I was hoping for an improvement in the quality of their food after the renovations. Unfortunately, it has successfully disappointed once again. I ordered the 280g porterhouse steak ($24) rare. It came medium. The salad on the side was tasteless although it had some thousand island dressing on it. I hope you reassess your cooking crew because standards are still low. Pub steaks are cooked according to specs, why can't Margo's?
Jace Fairbairn
Had steak and chips for dinner. Steak was well cooked and tender. Portions were huge and staff were friendly. Would eat here again
John
Ordered a chicken Palma, there were 7 of us, probably the worst Palma I've ever had in my life! Chicken was dry & cold, the sauce was horrible & had a thick layer of cheese that tasted like rubber! Place was empty. I wonder why?! The service was quite average too. Would not feed that to my dog. Would never go back.

Great burgers and steak. We came to Crown on a Saturday Night without any reservations, and managed to get into Margo's after trying about 15 other places. The burger was very tasty, as was the steak. Reasonably priced, service was okay, but would come here again

Disgusting food. Fishermans basket was stale and not fresh. Chicken Parma was so old and tough I couldn't cut it! Not even Hot! we shouldve known when the food came out so quick! The Tim tam cheesecake was a cheesecake with two broken pieces of time tam. The mys cake was same microwave rubbish. Save your money ! Plenty of other choices around !

Very impressed with our waiter, if more of the floor staff were more like he who shan't be named.. (cough Patrick cough) this place would improve. Good meal decent prices.

Excellent service. Drinks came within 5 minutes of ordering and entree came within 10 minutes. Mains came after within 10 minutes of the entree. Very speedy and polite service. Parma was great, chicken kieve was dry. Would definitely come here again though.

Very Ordinary. Had a meal in the new Margo's. The old restaurant was reasonably priced and reasonably good food. Had Atlantic Salmon which was small, poached and just had chips. Also had lamb ribs which was stuck on top of chips which made them soggy. Prices are more expensive than the old Margo's. Will not eat there again.

Great value for money eatery. I eat at Margo's Cafe for breakfast almost daily & the restaurant at least once a week since it's reopening in July, 2013. Value for money the food is very good & almost all meals tried there so far have met my (food critic) expectations Service provision is excellent and friendly staff & for such a large eatery ordered food to table time is very good. As for the decor it's a tad garish, (green & blue should never be seen together). Overall a great eatery for a reasonably priced meal & well worth a visit.<br/><br/>Phill Jury (Food Critic & Writer)

Always good Rib Eye steak. Went back to Margo's after a month, I had a order of rib eye steak as usual. Excellent! Good food before movie tonight.<br/><br/>P.S. parking at Crown was so expensive.

Disappointment in the "Upgrade". Tacky upgrade & renovation and blazing 80s music set the scene for a downgrade in quality of food. Been coming here since the place opened over a decade ago. Downhill since the renos. "Never again" kicks in as food quality has fallen off the cliff. Sorry.

Really enjoyed my meal. Simple meals and their upgrade looks amazing.

The food is terrible. If you have heart problems stay away as the food is fried and makes you nauseous with hearburn. The meals come out in minutes clearly from the microwave and have no taste.
Queen Of Food
Ate dinner there last night with some friends and was left really disappointed and hungry. I ordered spaghetti Napoli (I'm a vegetarian) which then the waiter told me they couldn't make as the sauce has meat in it (have they heard of make it fresh?!) and then two minutes later said its fine. My pasta came out and to be honest it tasted like a microwave job. The pasta was chewy and was definitely not cooked fresh and the sauce was bland. To top it off no one came over and asked if I wanted Parmesan cheese or to ask how the meal was. Perhaps add some more vegetarian options to the menu as there was only one or salads which was disappointing as well. Oh and maybe hire some real chefs not microwave button pushers. Those chef outfits don't fool me - won't go back!

Pleasant and afforable. Been a number of times, I always order seafood and have never really been disappointed. Not expensive. The waitress we had last week was fantastic. Friendly and very knowledgable. Not five star but you are not paying five star prices ether. Prices no difference to a Hotel Bistro these days. Also generally busy on the weekends so expect to wait at least 20 minutes for a table. <br/>Recommend for it's location, variety of food and reasonable prices. If you want 5 **** don't go... there are plenty of other upmarket restaurants at the casino.

Save your cash!. Ordered a chicken parma with bolognese, food came out quick although the quality and taste was simply unpalatable. The chicken was chalky and tasteless and the cheese had already set on top of the parma.. classic case of a microwave job. Asked for salad and got half a kilo of chips instead. $23.50 for a rubbish parma.. Better off trying your luck at casino war. AVOID!

Terrible. Our table had bread rolls but no plates or cutlery and we had to nick some from the next table. My partner ordered a cider and received a beer. The Caesar salad was the worst I've ever had - how could the egg be ice cold?! - and was obviously hastily thrown together. Partner ordered fisherman's basket which had hardly anything and cane only with chips (you shouldn't have to pay extra for some salad!). Worst of all, when we went to pay we were told they don't take EFTPOS! Credit card or cash only. Ridiculous. Will not be going there again.

Very pleasant Saturday night dining for 4 at Margo's. 25 minute wait to be seated (no complaints), Courteous staff, very reasonable prices, Yummy food!! Will go back again! :)
