Review Kl Bunga Raya - Melbourne

Catherine Jagonos
Authentic Malaysian food that is fresh and delicious with fair pricing and generous servings. Will be back for sure. The greens with crispy pork belly and salted egg yolk chicken ribs were amazing.

Really friendly helpful and attentive service. outdoor seating and tables available (so great to bring pets too), popular for dine in and takeaway. authentic Kuala Lumpur malaysian cooking scents waft through the restaurant from the kitchen every now and then. the mee goreng was a perfect balance of a charr (wok-hey/ breath of a wok) fresh lemon zest, tomato chilli umami, fresh lettuce and a decent amount of shrimps. the fish head curry was very light and generous with the amount of fish. unusually not very spicy at all- so suitable for low spice tolerance guests. the bubur chacha desert which was perfectly homely and authentic down Not overly sweet level of gula melaka. Best features: service, charr, authentic flavours, lightness of the stir fry and curry (Neither where weighed down by oil grease or overuse of coconut cream), very reasonable prices! also good place for families. expansive menu. i’ll be back to try other dishes

We had a very good time at KL Bunga Raya. The food is delicious, flavourful and plentiful. In my opinion and my partner's (who's of Malaysian origins) the food is authentic and traditional. Very friendly staff and affordable prices.

Heaven! Where have I been all these time, not knowing this is the best place for Laksa?! Authentic Malaysian dishes with a rather big menu, everything is fresh and tasty, excellent services and I'm just too happy to discover this place!

KL Bunga Raya was an eatery in North Melbourne, serving Malaysian cuisine. I’ve been here a couple of times and both times my dining experience was positive. Service was friendly, there were a lot of variety of dishes to choose from, the portions were generous, and the meals themselves, while in my opinion could have been more flavourful, were still decent. The eatery was quite spacious so it was a good fit for group lunches/dinners.

stonks! beef rendang was good & portions were really generous. got the chicken ribs with salted egg as well. got our order wrong so didn’t get to try the egg noodles but it’s fine. would come again to try other items!

I take orders here to deliver to customers. I found tend to do those ones. Sometimes I have to wait 2 to 8 minutes for the restaurants making/preparing food. As I usually have quests, I only do trips less than 15-20 minutes. I aim for a high trip-per-hour rate with lots of short trips over fewer, longer distance ones. I rear-ended (crashed into the back of) a car and now my steering is all weird

So glad i found this place! Staff were so friendly and so Malaysian! It really reminded me of what it’s like dining in Malaysia. Curry Laksa was so flavourful and they were super generous with all the toppings. Also really enjoyed the nasi lemak and the beef rendang is to die for. Prices are very fair! 📷 Roti with Curry sauce, Nasi Lemak with Beef Rendang, Curry Laksa Combination, Iced Teh Tarik and Iced Kopi Tarik

Ordered the nasi lemak special with beef rendang. A huge portion and very tasty with great flavours. Loved the pickles.

I paid $15.5 for beef noodles on delivery app but it was sooooo plain and a little over cooked. I’m really not a gastronome who’s strict with the flavours.<br/>Dunno why is this place so high-rated. But I’ll try dining in next time after the COVID-19 and change the rating. Probably I was just unlucky.

I love their vegetarian fried rice! Shitake mushroom is to die for!

4.5<br/><br/>The place was quite chill, the staff was friendly and the food didn't take long.<br/><br/>I had the hainanese chicken rice and really enjoyed it. The chicken was tender, the soy sauce was good, the rice was flavorful and had a hint of ginger in it (the way I liked it) and the chili sauce was also nice. Also a filling portion.<br/><br/>Tried a bit of the laksa too and it was quite good, though a bit on the spicier side, so might want to look out for that.<br/><br/>Overall, a pretty good malay restaurant with a good variety of menu<br/><br/>( follow for more!🌸)<br/><br/>xx,joelle.

Fast service and good selection for lunch deal $10.80 .<br/><br/>There is few good drinks fo select.<br/>The size of serving is good and taste amazing.<br/><br/>Fried noodles dishes are better than rich dishes.

Stopped here for a quick lunch and now I wish I lived closer! Really delicious, tasted homecooked, lovely service and incredible value. My fussy 7yo now wants chicken rice everyday and my husband loved the roti and the char kway tweo. I'm pretty sure we'll be back! 👌🏼

I came here today with my two young kids. The staff were so friendly and accommodating. They had plastic cutlery and crockery for kids. I ordered the lunch special, it’s a great deal for $10.80. Large serving, enough to feed me and my two year old happily. The food came very quickly, which is helpful with (usually impatient) children. I am very impressed by the quality considering how affordable lunch is. They even helped open the door for me and my two seater pram. I will definitely be returning regularly. <br/><br/>I highly recommend it!

The chicken dumpling noodle soup is great especially when you’re recovering from a cold. The vegetarian laksa and the seafood laksa were also great!

This place is my go to for North Melbourne casual eating. The food is great, the price is cheap, the serves are huge and the staff are friendly. It's the whole package. Best dishes are the laksas (any of them), singapore noodles, hokkien noodles, rendang and hainese chicken and rice. In the last few months they have really upped their game, new decor and even better food. Will keep coming back!
㊙️ The Traveling Foodie
Amazing place we visit many times through the year . Service is always prompt and the lunch menu is best value in North Melbourne.<br/><br/>$10.80 including drinks can not be beaten on value .

On the famous Errol Street of North Melbourne, you may actually be inundated with choice of cuisines. However, for a good Malay or South East Asian treat, I prefer this place. <br/>I’m slowly becoming a Laksa addict, and KLBR has a few options to my satisfaction! My wife has enjoyed their Tom Yum soup.<br/>I’d also recommend their duck 🦆 dishes!
Tristan Ambrosio
I love it here. Cheap, good food. Generous servings as well. Must try is the curry chicken, crispy noodle and beef rendang (although beef can be sometimes a bit tough). Reminds me of our 5 years living in Singapore.
Talia
Came and took my friend visiting from oversea here for a local dinner.<br/>We checked with the waiting staff that there was no shell fish in our dishes. She confirmed there was none.<br/>Got home after our meal and my friend had a reaction- they obviously use oyster sauce- which gave her, her reaction.<br/>Note to staff: if anyone is asking for specific dietary requirements please take it seriously and let people know thoroughly what is contained in your cooking.
The Gluten-Free Foodie
The value for money at KL is awesome! The staff are lovely even though it’s usually packed and busy and the food it yummy - hitting the lunch time spot. I particularly like the Nasi Lemak and Laksa which can both be gone GF. There are plenty of gluten free options with no extra charge and can be done in the $10 lunch deal.
Saza_Lives_To_Eat
Live in the area and thought I’d give this Malaysian restaurant a try. Lunch special is value at $10.80 including a drink. It was a cold day so decided to try the hainanese chicken rice. It came out fast and it was hot. Chicken was flavoursome and soft. Soup was good too. I think this is better than papa rich. The Teh Tarik could have been hotter, it was only warm. But at this price I’ll be back to try the other dishes. Kid friendly place!!
Sam
Had the lunch special today of vegetarian laksa which my daughter was enjoying until she found some grubs floating on the top! When we told them they didn’t seem too concerned but offered her another dish with no charge. Shame as we had just discovered this place and thought it was great 😐
Hungry For Chips
This is a good spot near the Comic’s Lounge to grab food before a show. The place was pretty busy as we entered so always a good sign. The place is a no fuss, cheap and cheerful. Highlights: the calamari! Perfectly cooked and the coating is just amount of crunch. Lowlights: the fish head curry is just bones. Roti is not as ‘fluffy’ as most other Malaysian places.
Lianne
Definitely an alright Malaysian food for the flavour, portion and price. <br/><br/>The vegetarian laksa is delicious. Generous amount of vegetable and noodles. The curry is towards the thicker side therefore it’s good. <br/><br/>Special fried: I am a big fan of fried rice with simple flavours and good wok heat. This hit the spot such straight forward flavour and fragrant. Very generous portion with good amount of chicken and prawns. <br/><br/>Fried keow teow: while the flavours and the work heat is there I find a bit wet for my liking. Again generous portion and good amount of accompaniment (bean shoots, fish cake etc) <br/><br/>Lobak: not the super traditional lobak but it taste good. <br/><br/>Service is good. The staff is friendly and approachable the food doesn’t take long to come to the table. <br/><br/>The place is quite small however we were there during non peak pram can be easily accommodate. <br/><br/>Will return. <br/><br/>

This is a pleasant establishment with very prompt and friendly service. I went for a $10 set menu lunch of roti canai with beef rendang. The roti was fine; however, the beef was all fat and gristle - I ate about 20% of the 'meat' provided. The rendang was very oily and surprisingly bland (certainly not spicy).<br/><br/>I realise that $10 for food and a drink is a low price, but would happily pay a few extra dollars if the quality of the ingredients was raised. <br/><br/>There is a $20 minimum for card payments, but the staff kindly allowed me to pay by card anyway.
Michael O
Yummy authentic Malaysian fare. Fast and very reasonable too. Friendly and attentive staff also. <br/><br/>Will definitely come back! Try the lychee soda.
J-acqui
Our Malaysian neighbours rave about KL Bunga Raya but unfortunately we found the beef noodles very oily and not a very balanced meal - just beef, noodles & sauce. I don't think this dish should be so heavy
Gee
Cheap and cheerful Malaysian that was by far the busiest venue on the Errol Street strip. Had the $10 lunch meal which you really can’t argue with and ordered the nasi lemak chicken curry. The curry itself wasn’t hot enough but it had a full egg, sardines and peanuts and tasted ok. Not amazing but not bad either!
Ryan Jinn Huei
Not too far from QVM. Heard from my friends that the butter chicken is to die for so I came on a quiet Sunday and tried it out myself. <br/><br/>We ordered the butter chicken<br/>- not bad, really hits the spot (you can ask for more sauce if you wanna eat w more rice)<br/><br/>Salted egg ribs<br/>- again hits the spot but I guess it’s too heavy to have two flavourful dishes at once. <br/><br/>Saw a few tables getting laksa, will be back! <br/>*Adds to favourite list
The New Fave
Slightly off the beaten track on Errol Street in North Melbourne is Malaysian inspired restaurant KL Bunga Raya. With prices that make McDonalds look expensive (including an array of $7 wines!)  KL Bunga Raya's food is inexpensive but still tasty, in a venue that’s casual but warm and friendly.
The World’s My Oyster
As others have said, the $10 lunch meal with drink (soft drink or Malaysian milk tea) is very good value. The portions are huge but the quality and taste is not the best. The Char Kuay Teow did not have much “wok hei” or charred flavour at all. It was pretty average and 3/5 is an accurate score.<br/><br/>The salt and pepper chicken ribs on rice ($12.50) was another wallet friendly dish but the inside of the chicken was cold when it came out. Clearly they deep fried the chicken before hand and just tossed it through the salt and pepper seasoning when the order came through. The redeeming factor was I requested chicken rice for the dish which was fragrant and exchanged instead of plain steam rice at no extra charge. The dish also came with 4 very big chicken ribs which were crunchy but again let down due to the coldness inside. I find it hard see how the fried chicken ribs is one of their listed “specials”.<br/><br/>When I went quite a few tables got laksa so maybe that is the go-to dish for this place? Overall, an alright place for Malaysian food (for the price and portion) but better tasting options definitely exist!

Booked this place a day prior and pre-ordered the yee sang to celebrate the coming of Chinese New Year. The yee sang was delicious and the salmon was very fresh. They have 2 sizes of yee sang. We ordered the smaller size and it was just nice for 4 people. Highly recommended - the prawn noodle! This will be our favourite place for our yearly yee sang fix!

My partner and I dined here with Tim.E and his partner, we were in quite a rush to order and eat as we had a comedy show next door. The service was prompt and the food good but not outstanding. We ordered a number of curries and noodles, our waitress was helpful in offering suggestions.<br/>I tried the chardonnay by the glass which was woeful, I would suggest brining a bottle if it's BYO (not sure if it is).
Michael Mickey Cheong
Place is nice. Service is very good. I ordered har mee with tea tarik. The har mee soup base was amazing but the prawns are from frozen packs. Worth going back to try other food.
Jordan Yim
Having tried most of the menu here, I can say that the food is consistently delicious, and really good value! You’d be hard pressed to find better Malaysian food in North Melbourne.<br/>Recommend the lunch specials - Very satisfying and comes with a choice of drink.
Cynthia Giang
A cosy setting for a humble Malaysian restaurant. Service is very efficient, with orders coming out very quickly. Staff are extremely friendly. Food overall was what I imagine to be fairly authentic. The fried rice was well portioned but became a little repetitive and oily after a while. However for the price, you will leave reasonably happy.
Karen Giang
Not a bad little Malaysian eatery. Staff were very friendly and quick to take the order. Food came out very promptly. Ordered roti with beef rendang and chicken skewers to share, which were both very enjoyable. Not the best roti in Melbourne, but still flaky. For mains, unfortunately the kway teow was heavily oversalted but the other dishes which were ordered were well balanced and pleasant to eat! The vegetarian laksa had a generous serve of eggplant which was cooked down to the perfect consistency! Overall a nice little cheap eat, if you're in the area.

We came during lunch time on the weekend and it wasn't busy at all. It was cloudy and slightly warm outside.<br/>We decided to get a table outside when the customer staffs approached us.<br/>However, when the customer staff was about to set up the table, it started raining therefore we asked politely to have the table inside.<br/><br/>The customer staff gave us a not happy look. We won't move inside if it wasn't raining.<br/>It wasn't nice for our first experience, we're thinking to change the place but it was raining so we gave a shot. <br/><br/>We chose this place at the first place because we're craving of Malaysian / Indonesian food and we're around Victoria Market.<br/><br/>Actually, they have a not bad rating in Zomato 3.5.<br/>Anyway, we ordered:<br/>- Nasi Lemak Special (Coconut flavored rice served with achar, peanuts, cucumber, ikan bilis and a choice of curry chicken or beef rendang) for $11.50.<br/>  The curry chicken served on the side was pretty good and well seasoned.<br/>  However, the overall taste of coconut flavored rice and others were pretty average. <br/>  We're slightly disappointed because we had a pretty high expectation on this Malaysian restaurant.<br/><br/>- Nasi Padang (Two curries chicken and beef served with seasonal vegetables with steamed rice) for $12.90.<br/>  The nasi padang was very simple and didn't find any outstanding; It's more like curry beef and chicken on rice rather than "Nasi Padang"<br/>  It wasn't a proper nasi padang as what we had in other places.<br/>  We'd expect that it came with cassava leaves with gravy on top rather than having a fresh carrots and broccolis.<br/>  It just didn't work quite well.<br/>  The beef rendang and curry chicken were cooked well and tender.<br/><br/>Overall, we didn't enjoy having lunch in this place. <br/>We reckon that they should have worked on their customer service delivery, most customers would give a second shot or at least think about to come back to the restaurant that has an average food but great, polite and attentive customer service.<br/><br/>Service: 2.0<br/>Taste: 2.5<br/>Price: 3.0<br/>Speed: 3.0<br/><br/>Yay: N/A<br/>Nay: Nasi Padang, Customer Service<br/><br/>Location: 34 Errol Street, North Melbourne, Melbourne<br/>Phone: 03 9329 1762<br/>Website: klbungaraya.com.au

Came for lunch and had spring rolls which were a bit greasy but the laksa soup was very nice but too many noodles. The special fried rice was tasty and the Singapore noodles were good but the servings were too large for us. The service was quick and the lunchtime special is good value at $10 per person
Angela Eats
The portions here are huge!!! I ordered the sweet and sour pork and it was okay. It didn't have that tradition sweet and sour flavour that you would find in a Vietnamese/Chinese restaurant. I also ordered the lychee drink and it was wayyyyy to sweet.
Alan Tiong Et-Ming
The people here are very friendly and helpful. The food is delicious too. Order the salted egg calamari and butter prawns. Take them with plain rice or rice drop noodles. The fried rice was ok but not extraordinary. Overall, a good place for a simple dinner.

Food is always good and service fast (which is a plus given we usually go here before shows at the comics lounge next door). Prices very reasonable.

Poor quality of malay la saya faham La <br/>Service 2<br/>Staff 1<br/>Quality 2<br/>Shop was dirty floor was gritty<br/>Food was so p.g dirty <br/>If this was in pelangi or ss2 then it would be expected but here in Melbourne Melbourne council health services have standards I can't see how u stay open <br/>Positive foods shn bhd

This place is one of inner Melbourne's best kept secrets. Malaysian food is a mix of curry with traditional eastern flavours, and when it comes to flavours. This place has it all. <br/>Not expensive either. <br/>And as for the customer service? So friendly and smiley. They advised us what dishes would compliment each other. They even served us a noodle dish without any onion per our request. <br/>This restaurant is intimate and the place is a beautiful little haunt. <br/>Do go there. Superb.
Wandering Ella
Simple restaurant serving reasonably priced Asian dishes that's pretty good for North Melbourne. When I was living near this area, I used to order their Hainanese Chicken Rice frequently as the tastes were just so reminiscent of home-cooking for me! The pineapple fried rice is also pretty great - just the right amount of pineapple to rice ratio.
Amy Ahmi
Quaint little restaurant located in North melbourne, serving traditional malaysian dishes that is relatively cheap in price and huge on the taste buds! Do recommend the laksa curry and roti with curried👍🏼
Kell
KL Bunga Raya is a bit of a hit and miss. While the laksa was enjoyable (not the best though, mind you!), the nasi lemak dish was not of quality. Portions are quite good for a meal just over $10 so I'd recommend this place but it took me a few goes until I found a dish I liked.
EsmeEats
This was a very hit and miss dinner. My extremely beige pad Thai was pretty awful unfortunately, sloppy noodles, tasteless chicken and scrambled egg with very little flavour - could have done with some vegetables! Although it is cheap, I don't feel that should excuse a tasty meal. <br/>However, my bf really enjoyed his vegetarian laksa and the salt & pepper aubergine was extremely yummy (and addictive as you can imagine)
Jolene Lim
The food here is quite average. The roti was quite dense and not evenly cooked with some parts felt a bit chewy. A good roti should be light and fluffy. The Char Kuey Teow tasted more like Cantonese style fried flat noodles, a little too sweet in flavour ,too much dark sauce and lack of garlic. Beef noodles and the iced Teh tarik drink was good. The restaurant is quite clean and comfortable with very reasonable price.
Loz Arthur
Great food with a buzzing atmosphere! Staff were super friendly as well! Ordered combination laksa, Nasi Lemak Chicken and vegetarian fried rice. Highly recommend all - everybody was more than happy!! Definitely come here again!
Don Djoe
Good food but was slightly hoping that it was better. We ordered Kung Pao chicken which was spicy and served with cashew nuts but somehow tasted a bit different from the other Kung Pao chicken. Felt like the sauce was to thick. Well maybe we should have ordered Malaysian dish at the first place. The other dish nasi lemak with beef rendang was pretty good but yah not enough to 'wow' us. As for the drink, their teh tarik was pretty decent.
Kristine
THe laksa here is not bad for its price i love the aubergine and tofu that's adding to the lovely flavour...the chef deserved a 5 STAR.... Food is served in good portions and it is delicious. The downside is that the staff in general was very rude (two ladies) Grumpy with a fake smile. As we dined in today we requested the seat next to the window as expected from a restaurant they would never allow you to sit in the good spot, I wouldn't mind sitting anywhere if I can see that the restaurant is full, however there were only 2 people dining in inside and the table is not reserved. So i suggested to my partner to just sit outside but the smaller lady staff agreed that we can sit near the window with the hint of annoyance in here voice, what is worst is that when she served the food that we ordered she just dumped grumpily the 2 food orders infront of me without saying anything or looking at me then turning her back right away...P.S they were not busy at the time it was at 5:30pm....(my partner was looking at me with a funny face as he did not have any food placed infront of him!!!suspecting that she must have not like that we requested that table that is why she gave us a bad service!!!)..My God we don't deserve this treatment!!!...train your staff to treat your customers professionally for Godsake...It is allright with me if this happens once but this happens to us 3x times!!!..I cannot take it anymore so I have to share this with you guys...I'll give it another go as I really like the food here but if this happens again I will never come back to this Restaurant!!!

It's a fantastic Malay joint in North Melbourne, highly recommend the butter prawns with the egg floss and the roast duck curry. Always winners. Good atmosphere, lovely service always with a smile :)
Charlie Daniels (Curious Charlie)
KL Bunga Raya was full tonight of show goers, as with events is tourism. The event brings people to town and with that more activity than usual. I could smell the coconut as it arrived within minutes of ordering, the combo laksa ($10). Plenty of toppings, with fish cake, prawns and chicken. The tofu absorbed the hot and spicy broth, though the eggplant, sweet and soft was the real highlight. A hearty broth perfect for winter nights and perfectly priced as a cheap eat at $10. The serving size is just right too if you're hungry, though not huge. Seated at the foot of the stairs we could feel the vibrations everyone someone walked by, which was often with the kitchen at the back. Service was minimal and prompt and friendly.
MelbourneMiss
Great little place. We were lucky to walk in on a Friday night and get a table straight away. There were lots of people coming and going for booked tables. Portions were generous including the steamed rice (we couldn't finish the portion). Beef rendang was spicy and delicious. The pork mince and eggplant claypot wasn't spicy but the soy based sauce had great flavour and the eggplant was silky and tender. We also had salt and pepper squid to start which had a really delicious salty coating although the squid itself was a bit flavourless. Service was really good - prompt and genuinely friendly. For less than $40 we had a great meal and I'd love to return to try more of their very extensive menu.

This restaurant is a hidden gem of fabulous authentic Malaysian flavours. My Malaysian friend called it the Laksa King of North Melbourne without the ridiculous queues! The standout for me was the 2 style Kai Lan, the Roast Duck Laksa and the two Desserts.
Eatwithhendri
From the restaurant name it's obviously serving Malaysian food. Arrived in a quiet Sunday afternoon, we had vegetarian laksa, singapore meehoon, stir fry shitake mushrooms and brocolli and padthai. Both services and food were spectacular especially the laksa and meehoon but not with the padthai. It's disappointing and lack of sweetness. We are to blame by ordering a Thai dish in a Malaysian place duh.
Kimmy_desu
The food is great! Packed with authentic flavours and a real treat for your tastebuds. Service is also friendly and prompt, always attending to your needs. We had chicken satay and vegetarian spring rolls for entree, then malaysian butter chicken, beef rendang and garlic vegetables stir fry for mains with a side of roti. Each dish was fantastic! The butter chicken apparently is the restaurant's unique dish. They deep fry the chicken in batter before pouring a certain kind of condensed buttery milk on it. It's delicious but since it's a bit rich/heavy we weren't able to finish it and took the rest home. The sauce in the beef rendang was just perfect to dip the roti in. The place was quite full tonight even though it's only a Wednesday, which means that it has definitely built up a good reputation among the locals. Can't wait to be back!
FOOD TRIP
Not particularly attractive or inviting from the outside. Lots of menu options including all the usual Malaysian staple dishes. Quality was decent, but not worth the price. Wouldn't recommend. Red and White Wines. Vegetarian Spring Roll (4 pcs) ~ $6.70. Very crispy spring rolls but not enough flavour in the filling. Odd dipping sauce. 4/10
Rahul Barmanray
Came here for a 5-course set menu as part of a group-buying voucher and were rewarded with a solid meal that was worth the price. Quantities were good and the beef rendang was a faithful rendition of the classic dish. The Malaysian style butter chicken was an interesting take; was essentially the batter for Malaysian butter prawns with chicken pieces substituted for the seafood. Not something I've tried before but will be keen to order again elsewhere to see others' take on it.<br/><br/>All in all, nothing spectacular but good value for money. It probably has enough distance from the Malaysian powerhouses in Carlton to create a decent local following and will likely see us back when the wife next misses her mum's cooking.
Hello. Imnikki
Discovered this place a few years ago when I was looking around Melbourne for yee shang for Chinese New Year. Their yee shang is one of the better ones in Melbourne in term of size, price and taste. The lady behind the counter, Cherrie, is a hoot and always so friendly and welcoming. The food is quite enjoyable, nothing too spectacular but definitely well-priced and tasty. You can always request for the dishes to be made spicier which will definitely up the yum factor. So far we have tried the shared dishes only and have not ordered any of the individual rice or noodle dishes so can't comment on those.

"..HAD A DELISH THAI FEAST FOR TWO - GOOD SERVICE & GREAT PRICE.." <br/><br/>First time at KL BUNGA RAYA, Errol Street, North Melbourne and really enjoyed it...<br/>-salt & pepper chicken, $8.50<br/>-vegetable spring rolls, $5<br/>-salt & pepper calamari, $9.50<br/>-roti w peanut sauce, $5.50 [fabulous roti bread]<br/>-beef rendang, $16<br/>-butter chicken, $17<br/>-Asian veg w cashew nuts, $13<br/>-steamed rice for 2, $4<br/>Everything was fresh, beautifully cooked, well-presented and had authentic flavour..<br/>My only tiny criticism is that the salt & pepper chicken and calamari needed a dipping sauce - next time I'll ask - these dishes deserved to be fully enjoyed..<br/>Service was friendly and sincere..<br/>Premises were squeaky clean..<br/>We were seriously stuffed for just under $40 each - yes, we were so hungry.. and the food was good..<br/>Can't wait to get back..<br/><br/>Visited April 2016

This place is actually not bad at all. Came here and had some dinner before a show next door at The Comic Lounge, needed something quick and tasty and this place was almost just that. I found the rice a bit salty but the laska with fish fillets was spot on. This restaurant is reasonably priced and the service is attentive and friendly.
Timinmelbourne
Another great restaurant. We were walking past and my friend and I decided to try this place. And what a find it was. <br/>Keeping with my vegetarian theme for today we had curry puffs, vegetarian spring rolls, vegetarian fried rice and I had fish fillet laksa. It was great food, and very reasonable. <br/>They serve Hix beer yumm and the service was outstanding. Worth the trip over this way, as its right next door to the Comics Lounge 😄
P-mac
You know what? It's just always solid, never bad, but never amazing... and that's what keeps me coming back. My favourite is the Beef Rendang. Add some coconut rice and boom! That's my Friday night take away done.
Eat_drink_melbs
Worst Gado Gado ever. Basically flavourless satay sauce whacked on a mound of bean shoots.<br/>Maybe they do some dishes well but it's so hit and miss it's not worth the effort.
Vinny
Only been here once but from the taste of the kuey teow I'm gonna rate everything this place high as. I always love char quey teow so I've tried quite alot and can say this one is up there. Tastes pretty much as good as the types I've tried in Malaysia.. I wanna go back and try a few more dishes but I defs rate this place
Bamposs
this place has outstanding laksa and fun, friendly service. i'm also partial to the Yong Yang noodle which is a deliciously sour little number.
I Am Cheng
A Malaysian restaurant in north Melbourne. They doesn't consist a good Malaysia food. Is just average. Portion is small and the price is a little high. Service is so so. A little disappoint as a Malaysian.
Le Caca
How do you make a sad nasi goreng? It was dry.. It was cheap.. But no good. Staff are nice? Asian food on Errol is dissapointing overall. Why can't Footscray be closer.
A N
The food was not very good. (If not worse) exactly food court quality.<br/>My meal came out 2 minutes after I ordered and it was a bit cold. Even though it was very cheap. I'd go elsewhere next time.
Paul Ryan
Liked the price food was OK but couldn't say I loved it. Food was salty, but plent of it. If you need a cheap gut filler than this is place, but I think I will avoid next time.
Eve
The dishes were tasty but unfortunately the dishes were very cold. Didn’t taste like it was hot off the wok at all. This has happened every time I have come here, so I have no idea what is going on in the kitchen. Whether the wait staff are just slow to pick up the dishes from the kitchen, time and time again, or whether there is another underlying reason.

I tried a bit of the chicken here and it was quite tasty. Packed full of flavour. I can’t recall what the dish was called to be honest.

New staffs are bad different with the first time.. Objectively, I ordered three times here.<br/>The first time, I came, I ordered fish laksa. Its nice. The staffs were friendly. She said she is from China. But she was very friendly, even I am not from China.<br/>The second, I visited on Chinese New Year 2015. I ordered fried quay teow. Its just so so.<br/>The third time, I visited today (15 March 2015, Sunday around 12PM). However the staffs were not kind, and yeah, harassed, and insulted me with some rude words, while I didn't provoke. Two of them were chinese physical appearance (but I guessed they were chinese overseas etc, might be from Indonesia), then the chef, a young guy, might be also chinese overseas (because he talked inside loudly in Indonesian language, "Same bla bla!") who barked suddenly to me without provocation saying "Shut up!!". <br/><br/>I tried to understand their actions, and thought that they might be having some emotional problems due to peak hours because it was lunch time, but still they have to respect the customers, like me. I didn't talk at all with them, beside ordering food, and busy listening my phone.<br/>Its very inappropriate of them. These staffs seen today were not the same staffs seen the first time, I came. I honestly praised the staffs when first time I visited KL Bunga Raya. However now, its the completely the opposite.<br/><br/>I think they are new staffs, since I saw before that KL Bunga Raya advertised around several weeks ago, looking for new staffs in their restaurant.<br/>Its really bad experience, seeing these staffs who harassed the customer without provocations etc.<br/>My advice, to KL Bunga Raya, please please do background checking if you are hiring people. and please don't hire these kind of staffs. I forget the names of the staffs when I visited KL Bunga Raya the first time. She is from China, with strong chinese accent. But she was very nice, even I am not from china.<br/>These staffs today, three of them, were really a mess. I would like to advise you that you should be careful otherwise they will downgrade your brand. <br/><br/>I usually never comment any bad things about others, like restaurants, or else. If I don't like usually I just keep quiet.<br/>But I think I should speak up about this to you, because these staffs will harm your business in the future.

Best Laksa in town. The best Laksa in Town

Watch out for the Corkage $$$$$. $10 for corkages is outrageous. Food is alright. Service is ok. Corkage is criminal.

Nothing Special. The wait staff were nice, and attentive but the food was nothing special. We had gado gado and nasi lemuk, the sauce on the gado gado didn’t really have any flavour, and the same thing with the curry chicken. No spice, it was all quite bland. The pickled vegetables didn’t have much to them other than a little crunch, and the egg still had bits of shell on it. We also had salt and pepper calamari and it wasn't crispy at all, it was very oily on the outside, a bit slimy then chewy and there was no chili on it at all. There was no chili or spice in any of the dishes.

Dined here this evening on a groupon voucher and the food was fantastic. Bit of a mix up with my booking which was my fault and staff were helpful and quick to resolve. San choi bow was a little light on filling but tasty. Veggie spring rolls were fresh and super crisp. Beef rending was a little small but tender and full of flavour. Highlight was spicy calamari additional entree we ordered - perfectly cooked and amazing flavour as were the chilli prawns as a main. Thank you we will definitely be back :)

Misers!. Ordered ginger fish fillet on rice today. To my dismay, more than 3/4 of the dish was white rice; with a meagre 3 slices of low quality basa fish, 6 slices of inedible ginger and a sprinkle of vegetables. Never again.

Just Passable.. Really hard to decide on this place, went last night and enjoyed the service and atmosphere, quite a nicely set up place and clean for a restaurant of this type.<br/><br/>Had the KL Lobak which was very average, the pork mince was way too fine almost mushy and lacked any real flavour.<br/><br/>The Kuay Teow was somewhat better nice smoky flavour generous amount of chinese sausage(which is rare in most places) and flavoured just enough rather than too much.<br/><br/>Servings are on the small side though so entree's are a must, would i go back? probably not as there are some cracking Malaysian places in the city but over all not great but hardly bad.

Disappointing. The name and surroundings looked promising, but the meal failed to deliver. The waitress was quick to attend to us, and our food arrived quickly, but as for the quality of the food: I had the nasi padang with rendang and chicken curry with assorted veg. The curries lacked richness of flavour, and were a bit on the oily side. My mother's chicken rice was utterly lacking in chicken flavour. It was the kind of food one would expect at a rather average hawker centre type place or canteen. The only redeeming feature was the teh tarik. Unfortunately compared to the great restaurants on Racecourse Road, Flemington, this restaurant in North Melbourne is just lacklustre.

Cheap and tasty.. This is a 'I need to feed myself ' restaurant not a 'let's go out for a night on the town ' one. Love the laksa and everything else I've had here. Food is dirty and tasty rather than fresh and healthy.

I went here using one those groupons. The place is pretty decent, good service, tasty food. Not sure why some people winge about the size. To me it was just right. Yes, they didn't stuff us with too much food like some places but the portion was definitely not small. The photo re "small curry" on urbanpoon is smaller than what we actually got when dining there. Anyway, it is great place overall.

Best Laksa in Melbourne. Cant get enough of this place- that says nothing of the serving size which is very generous. Service is great too.

Yummy curry laksa and prawn mee. I can say the best curry laksa in Melbourne very close to what KL has to offer. Good amount of coconut unlike Laksa King where it's too rich with coconut which is not how authentic curry laksa should be. The prawn mee is very close to KL style too. The other dishes are ok only.

Best laksa, awesome friendly staff! love this place

Diluted Malaysian. Food is fine but lacks the punch, spice, chaos and essence of some of the more authentic Malaysian eateries around.

This place is fantastic. The service was some of the best I've experienced! The food comes in huge portions (we all struggled to finish), the variety is perfect and the quality of the food was sensational! Anyone who doesn't enjoy this place is delusional! I would recommend it to everyone & will definitely be coming back!!

This place is great! I had the rice drop noodles and they were fantastic. The service was great and the prices were very reasonable. Highly recommended!

I don't often fancy a bit of Malaysian but the couple of times I've been here (one takeaway, one eat in) the food has been exceptional and the service has been very pleasant.<br/><br/>Had the beef redang and nasi lemak. Both really good. Would highly recommend. So glad we live close to this place.
