Have heard a lot of hype/adverts about these being the some of Melbourne’s best burgers, so thought I’d give them a go. Clean and contemporary atmosphere. Friendly service.
Ordered the Cheese Deluxe. Really succulent, perfectly cooked patty. Extremely tasty- However they were a bit too generous with sauces. Found my burger bun became soggy pretty quickly. Also burger was a little small. I don’t have a huge appetite but was glad I ordered sides with the burger. 8/10
Chips. Super crispy on the outside, fluffy soft inside. Generous portion for the price. 10/10
Crispy chicken bites. Real pieces of chicken (unlike the processes chicken pieces you can sometimes get at fast food chains). More than enough to share with a friend. Occasionally uneven cook (some pieces were a little dry) 7/10
Overall above average burger. Great quality and they definitely know how to cook their beef patties and chips! I might forgo the chicken bites next time.
Burgers were expensive for the size (compared to similar burger stores). However I discovered they have a great range of daily specials e.g. Monday 2 for 1 burger combos. Along with “happy hour deals” between 3-6pm weekdays including $6 burgers and $3 chips and soft serves which is an absolute steal. So definitely worth giving this place a go- especially if you can get it with a special deal!
Had the cheese deluxe burger and fries combo from mealpal. Im really please with the patty itself. Not dry, tasty as well. Their small serving of chips quite a lot as well.
Stopped by Burger Project located on the food court level of St Collins Lane. I tried the cheese deluxe burger, it was good..the patty was tender and juicy.

3.5/5 Burger Project has recently revamped its menu, bringing in Southern Fried Chicken Burgers and a new dessert. The coating on the fried chicken is crunchy and well seasoned, and diners have a choice of two varieties. Both the Chicken and Chicken Deluxe come with pickles and aioli, but the Deluxe has the additions of cheese, tomato and lettuce. Pimp up your burger even further with add-ons including crumbed mushroom, triple smoked bacon and extra patties.
Great place for a burger. Cooked well with lots of delicious ingredients. Milk shakes great and chips are pretty good to. Definitely a place that I would keep coming back to.
Finally tried burger project! The burger was good - their beef patty was juicy and seasoned well. Chips were nice and crispy too! Food was ready pretty quickly too so it’s great if you’re in a rush.
This outlet is located inside St Collins Lane. Those of you who have been here will know that this alone makes it almost not worth dining at. The mall has the most obnoxious escalator system ever, and that is by choice, not design (see my review of Think Asia in the same complex). There are lifts on either end (which I strongly recommend you use), but one of the lifts was located outside the actual complex, adjacent to the hotel next door, so I couldn't even find it. In short, it's a remarkably annoying place to navigate.
Once you manage to get up to Burger Project, the actual branch was quite well presented in their usual decor. I went during an off peak hour and had their $9.90 cheeseburger and chips offer. My previous experience at the Chadstone branch wasn't good but decided to give this chain another shot due to the offer.
The cheeseburger was pretty good, surprisingly. The bun was soft, ingredients were fresh, and the patty was quite thick and pink in the middle. The chips were pretty good too, and I liked the free-flow of tomato sauce and mustard. At $10 for a burger and chips of this quality, it was pretty good value for money and I'd be happy to eat it again. At the regular price of $15+, though, I'd say the value is ok but not really enough to convince me to eat here on purpose. The fact that the branch is located within St Collins Lane sadly seals my decision.
These guys know how to make a good burger and their prices are reasonable. I love the Chilli Cheese. It’s juicy and the flavours are balanced perfectly. Their shakes are rich and decadent. I had to eat the Valrhona chocolate shake with a spoon.
Quality burgers with the convenience of fast food. Beef burgers were cooked to medium doneness and the lettuce & tomato actually tasted fresh. Chocolate shake were from real chocolate rather than flavoured syrup. Only gripe is there wasn't as much char on the burger as at Huxtaburger or Rockwell & Sons!
I have been here a few times over the last year. Great burgers and selection here. Good taste fresh not covered in fat. Very crisp and mouth watering
Had been wanting to try Burger Project specifically for the Katsu Burger for a while, and finally found time to drop in. Presentation of the burger was great. All were impressed by all the burgers. Prices were moderate, our bill got a little hefty with the addition of alcohol. The Katsu burger was better than expected, the chicken was very juicy and still crispy on the outside. The variety of burgers was also impressive, there is something that would suit everyone, with enough add ons to suit all. Glad to see that spicy katsu is a seperate option as many places will only offer 1 chicken burger. The homemade ice tea was also great, too much ice but all up was nice, homemade ice tea always wins my heart. Will most likely come try again if looking to fill a burger craving.
The Burger Project is has one of the best produce I've experienced within a burger. Grass-fed Tasmanian beef, fresh vegetables and tomatoes with dashes of sauce. The burgers are not overly powered in flavour but are honest to it's produce. Their beef patties are quite lean and has a nice, meaty texture to it (i.e. not as soft as generic patties). The chips are well cook, thick and chunky whilst there thick-shake could be one of the best I've tried; a lot of flavour yet had natural fibres of caramel and chocolate. They have a few deals with the App and free burger Tuesdays with any combo.
I wanted to find a super quality burger and figured Neil Perry should be able to do it. Had the standard burger, small chips and soft drink. It was excellent. The chips were super crispy, maybe that is triple cooked, loved them. Burger was excellent, hardly dribbly but not dry either. All recyclable packaging. Excellent service and very appropriate ambiance. Still deciding if it’s the best burger in melbourne, it just might be. Well done Neil.
Came into Burger Project for lunch today. A busy packed out venue with a queue forming. The queue took a fair time to get moving I assume because there are just so many options. Bacon seems to be available with everything and there’s even a choice of three different salts on the fries.
We ordered a Spicy Karaage chicken burger with bacon, a Double beef burger without bacon fries, one with chilli salt and drinks.
I loved my double beef burger. It was seriously juicy and cheese and eating was made easy by the paper wrap. My lunch buddy rated his chicken burger an 7/10 but commented that he thought the spice could have been dialed up a little. Fries were crunchy and drinks were self self serve unlimited refill which kind of makes me think why would anyone ever buy the large size.
An enjoyable burger experience.
This was our first food stop in Melbourne & we were not disappointed! Great vego burger, was called the Magic Mushroom. Had a crumbed field mushroom, a delicious sauce and salad served on a bread top bun. All the ingredients were fresh & delicious. Often veggie burgers can be dry and bland however this one was juicy and full of flavour. Delicious!
The classic beef - a good burger for the price - served really fast without any hiccups - true to the fast food slow food values written on the walls. I feel it could use more of the sauce or something else to add a bit more flavour. 3.5/5
One of my fave burger chains in Melbourne. The flavor is great and the burgers are not greasy. Chips are tasty and I always get the House iced tea.
Probably in the best two burger joints in Melbourne for me. Hand made patties are absolutely fantastic and always cooked to perfection. Super soft buns, sauces always on point and very simple menu.
Personal favourite is the American cheese with and extra beef pattie. Magic deluxe is nice a change with the crumbed mushroom and beef pattie.

Food was reasonable quality and very friendly employees. Atmosphere is like a food court but that’s exactly where it is so that’s fine. I feel this is expensive but in line with the burger culture in Melbourne. If you’re in the city and looking for a quick burger, give this place a go
A good burger place. The patty was fresh and cooked well. Loved the sauce and what they called 'rose mayo'. They added acidity that complemented the patty really well. The chips was awesome. Crispy and savory.
Burger Project located in St Collins Lane has a nice little lookout if you sit outside, and has the nice green lights which makes it a nice place to stop by in the evening when you crave a burger. I came by earlier in the evening and had no issues with seating - plenty of seating in the area. Reasonably good burger and chips; a bit heavy so you should feel decent after even though it might look small when it comes out.
I went here for lunch on Tuesday. I was craving sushi but I couldn’t find a food sushi place where I could sit down so I went here instead. When I ordered I had no idea that the Burger Project was a Neil Perry branch.
I wasn’t very hungry so I ordered the American Cheese without any chips. I ate some of my friend’s chips from another place hehehe. The American cheese tasted just like a cheese burger from Maccas but better. This one had pickles inside which is important in a cheese burger. The beef patty was thicker than Maccas one and it was nice and pink in the middle. I also like that the bun was toasted.
The people working here were friendly enough. I wasn’t happy with the surcharge on EFTPOS, seriously banks no longer charge much money for EFTPOS transactions. I would like to come back here and try the other burgers and chips but I’ll have to remember to bring cash next time.
Good burgers anyone? Created by Neil Perry... This place is pretty food. But the price tag is quite high. It's a definite must try as the burger and chips are spot on. they serve beer as well which is good.
I ordered the Bacon Project Burger.
It was delicious but surprisingly smaller than I was expecting and presentation was not out of the box. The cheese, pickle and beef in the burger were mouthe-wateringly delicious so all in all, a good place to stop by while ahopping for a burger!
Was the first burger project in Melbourne. The burgers are quite nice and quite different to the norm. They also have special flavoured fries like the Sichuan pepper one which I don't mind. Would come back in if I'm around the area
Points for: Juicy patties, excellent bacon
Burger Project is one of my favourite burgers in Melbourne. They make a point of grilling the patties to have a nice crust on it. Ideally I'd like the option of having it medium rare, but it still comes out medium and juicy. You can taste the rough grind of the mince, and still has a nice beefy flavour.
The bacon is thin and crackly and adds a nice smokey saltiness to the burger.
The buns itself are soft and brioche-like, but by the time you have a few bites, the buns end up flat just from holding it. Still, not a huge problem because it doesn't detract from the main patty.
Chips are medium-cut, fresh and crispy and the garlic aoili goes well, but not sure if it's worth $2 for a small tub.
A little on the pricey side - by the time you order a drink and chips you're looking at the $20 mark.
They usually cook to order, but once I received a burger that had been cooked in advance (probably one of the more popular options), so that was a bit luke-warm.

This place is consistently good with a small menu that always delivers which is really nice given that so many places are all about the 'American' burgers with loaded everything. If you skip the milkshakes, you won't feel bloated!
DO:
*try the magic mushroom - perfectly panko crumbed mushroom is the star in a no frills burger. best part is that it feels healthy too!
*come here if you want a quieter burger experience. due to it's location, it appears to attract less of rowdy crowd during lunch time
*try the chips with the Sichuan pepper! the spiciness is a lovely slow burn
DON'T:
*skip the drinks! their sodas are fresh and the milkshakes are so decadent!
*forget to try their dipping sauces!
*leave it too late to order as they close fairly early.
Great burgers guys, we all enjoy our time there staff were friendly ,didn't take to long to get served we will be coming back.Keep up the good work 😃
The @burgerproject is seriously one of our favourite burger places in Melbourne and if you haven't tried them we advise you to go get it for your next meal! Here we have the must have Aussie burger, filled with a delicious and succulent beef patty, lettuce, beetroot, pickles, cheese, onion, tomato and secret sauce! Pair this with their chipotle salted chips and it'll have your tastebuds dancing and belly smiling! Also, if you're a hungry/hangry and short on dosh, go grab a burger and a side of chips/drink for only $10!
Great Burgers, one of the better one I have tasted, tried the beef every time though no doubt the chicken would be nice as well, the sichuan peppercorn chips are delicious and they have yummy drinks to choose from as well. Decent burgers that aren't too overpriced. Recommended
Top burgers, portion size just right with a little side of fries. Had the chillie cheese, great patty, fresh greens and a reasonable little kick. Lots of competition in the burger space right now, this one is worth shortlisting
Pretty enjoyable experience at Burger Project today. While i have had better tasting burgers, i like the fact these are very tasty and feel like a healthy burger. The fries are also good and i like their craft beer selection.
Overall a very good experience and a place i will revisit
I had the american cheese burger and fries. I thought it was delicious, a bit on the small size so I ordered a nuts about chocolate soft serve. I was full after that. I will definitely cone back and try other burgers as well as their sodas.
We are a big fan of Cape Grim steaks from NW Tassie. Using the same meat for burgers would always be a winner. I really liked the burger I had but it was on the small side. I now know why my dining friend ordered a double patty burger. He'd been before. Worth a second visit.

A great burger chain by Neil Perry, we were excited when Burger Project finally opened in Melbourne! We ordered the cheese and bacon burger as well as their thick cut chips, it was delicious but slightly over priced given its a chain.
I usually go the Aussie burger. $11.50, Its a winner. Chips are decent. Laid back atmosphere. Everyone I've been there with was more than satisfied.
Burgers tasted pretty good but it would have been better if they were a bit bigger. Don't mind paying a little more for a larger burger. :) :)
*Food*
The waiting time can be slow once you've ordered your burger but trust me, it would be worth the wait. The burgers are freshly made from scratch and meat are cooked to perfection. Fresh tomatoes, onions, and veggies add a bit of crisp and refreshments to the burger. The sauce in the burger was quite good too.
The ice-cream I ordered also tasted creamy with an unusually familiar raspberry flavour which reminds you about your childhood. I love it!
*Service*
Staff are friendly, engaging and always smiling.
*Environment*
Visually good but a little small. There's upstairs as well.
*Price*
Average price of burger is around $12 which is quite expensive but definitely worth a try.
I had the spicy fried chicken katsu with added mayo and it was really quite nice!
The regular chips I got were a bit cold and I mentioned it nicely to the guy behind the counter and he apologised profusely and gave me a large chips for free which was a nice gesture which wasn't expected
Overall pretty good!
First off ... apologies for the poor photo quality. I was so hungry I took a split second snap before I devoured it like a maniac. It was good, very good.
I had the Spicy Cheese burger which was very nice. Only complaint is that the sauces weren't evenly spread out so one part was not as spicy as the other. Other than that, I thought it was quite nice. But where does it rank in terms of burger hierarchy? I would say I liked it and it's super convenient but not in my top 5, maybe my top 10.
Also the chips are great! They have great seasoning.
The American Cheese was superb. Succulent perfectly cooked tender beef, with delicious rose mayonnaise (mayo with a vinegar mustard tang, not unlike Big Mac mayo). The burger was a little small, so add a little something else to fill the spot - such as the normal chips (not a fan of the Sichuan or chipotle salt versions on offer)
These burgers are tasty and juicy. I liked the soft and a little sweet bread they use. Always busy during weekdays lunch. I might come back for more.
Great burgers and I'm a huge fan of the house made sodas though, passion pop and strawberry are a hit!! I love the sustainability concept of The Burger Project and will continue to support these guys! Dislike the Sichuan pepper salt on my fries, too spicy for my tastebuds.
The group’s tenth Burger Project in the country, and the third in Melbourne, is similar in look and feel to its counterparts, sporting a distinguished smart-casual interior designed by leading architect Grant Cheyne. Burger Project Melbourne Central is one of the largest Burger Projects to date, spread over two levels, with a large open kitchen and seating for around 100 customers.
Probably the best burgers around! I love their chicken katsu chilli burger and their chilli beef burger (w bacon!). Their valohra chocolate milkshake is da bomb as well.
This place has the best burgers. I have eaten here perhaps four times and never not had delicious burger. I'd recommend the cheese and bacon burger - often bacon adds nothing to a burger, but the crispy grilled streaky bacon they use is great. A good place to eat by yourself - popular with solo diners on weekdays.
My daughter and I both had the Aussie burger. So yummy! The chips were piping hot and the burger cooked til just pink in the middle. The staff were lovely. Only complaint is the drinks. I had ginger beer and miss had the passion pop. They taste like non sweetened cordial mixed with soda water. At $4.50 each thought I would get a nicer drink.
Will be back for a burger though!
Firstly I would like to say the prices are very reasonable and sizing just right.
Service was good, and fast.
Now let's get to business - burgers them selves a tad oily but what do you expect with deep fried chicken burgers. I personally didn't like their special secret sauce AS much eating the sauce 6/10 - but I gave it a go and still finished my burger! But that could just my pallet of tastebuds.
Overall
Service 7/10
Burgers 6.5/10
Great tasting burgers, the beef patty was of excellence quality and cooked to perfection. Value for money is ok, just wish the burgers were a little bigger. Plenty of seating available, service was lacking though as some of the tables weren't cleared for some time. I recommend the American burger, great combination of flavours.
I had the Bacon burger, which was okay (the salt from the bacon was over powering), and the Mrs had the mushroom burger (delicious). I paid an extra seven dollars for a small soft drink and chips. Which brings me to prices - they're a little gold plated. BUT, you're paying for location, so it's definitely worth a visit.
Tried the cheeseburger deluxe $11.90 with added smoked bacon $3 extra. On first seeing the burger, it appeared quite small, but the taste made up for this. The flavour of the meat Pattie (grass fed Cape Grim beef) was excellent, as was the bacon and relish. Overall a pretty good burger. Burger project is on top floor of Collins Lane Mall in the newish food court area.

I had the Mushroom burger with chips.
Burger taste good, not soggy just nice.
The chips was okay... not the best I have had.
The price is ok. but the size is a little small. we (my friend and I) were still hungry afterward. We reckon that we can eat 2 burgers.
Tasty burgers. Nice balance between moist patty, crisp bacon and crunch of lettuce and pickles. Popular at lunch so expect a wait.
Seems burgers are the big thing in town at the moment with multiple choices in a 2 block radius.
I do recommend this place.
The food is definitely very good you can see in the photo the place is very nice the design also is great the staff are all wonderful the kitchen is an open system no doubt the burger patties are really wonderful juicy and the beef is really tasty but a bit expensive because the beer is very rare fine agreed mate must drink with great wine or red beer they have white wine and red wine together with burger which is very unique it is never been seen in our country before but really funny halfway almost finishing my food that is a hungry mouse running out perhaps you want to eat the dinner also. See the little mouse mice RATTATOUIEE !!! LOL this is hilarious but the burger is one of the best o ever tasted I never go for the Fries. Overall tip top. And who cares about the hungry little mouse running around LOL
