I'm so glad that I visited Ciel Cafe earlier this year when we were still allowed to eat in. This massive cafe is gorgeous with it's industrial fitout and ample natural light. The waitress was extremely friendly and more than happy that we were using Zomato Gold to try a few dishes.
We started with a breakfast quesadille that was packed full of eggs, avo, cheese and spices. The fresh salsa on the side was lovely and refreshing, and it was a delicious dish.
Finishing up with an amazing banana pancakes stack, we really struggled to finish everything. The two pancakes were huge... thick and fluffy and so full of flavour. Bruleed banana, ice cream, nut praline and raspberries all made for perfect accompaniments; but it was the addition of a jug of creamy caramel sauce that brought this dish together. Such a generous portion and absolutely divine.
With equally great coffee, Ciel has the kind of atmosphere and vibe that makes us super keen to go back as soon as ISO restrictions are relaxed. It's a little out of the way compared to other South Melbourne cafes, but it really is worth a visit.
Love the new menu! Old was good but also due for a change
We had a fantastic experience at this cafe. The service was great and the food was delicious too. Loved the wedges with were crispy and fluffy. The chicken burger and quesadilla were both flavourful and a good portion size. Their iced coffee was really nice and it’s served in a bottle, plus it’s home brewed too. Although it’s a little far away from anything, it’s definitely worth a visit!
Found this place on zomato gold and booked via zomato too. Nice and spacious café near South Melbourne market, with delicious & healthy meal options. The staffs were friendly, and the overall atmosphere was very accommodating. We had the smashed pumpkin sourdough and a smoothie bowl, both were really tasty. Apparently the pre-mixed iced latte is available in a bottle, but I was after the sugarless version so they made it fresh for me. Didn't have to wait for long to have our meals served. Very pleasant experience & will definitely go back again!

🍔 Pork belly burger with sweet potato chips. Pork belly was crispy and tender however the bun was dry and dense. I normally enjoy sweet potato chips but not sure why I didn’t enjoy that much here 🤷🏻♀️
🥪 Honey maple bacon on sourdough. I loveeee the honey maple bacon🥓 . It was sweet, savoury and juicy at the same time. Unfortunately, similar problem with the burger, the bread was tough not sure if the bread quality wasn’t good or over toasted.
On the other side, coffee and hot chocolate were yumm!
Will I be back? Uhmmm... yeahh
I’m a local so have tried multiple cafes in the area. The coffee here is divine - and the food is always so tasty! 👍🏼

Probably a 3.5 but Zomato doesn't do half ratings so going for a 4 (heaps better than a 3!). Went for an early lunch on Saturday and the Cafe was almost empty but boy oh boy the place is HUGE. It's right next to the Church so don't miss the sign, I reckon must be crowded on Sundays.
Service was very friendly & attentive. The coffees & food came out quite quickly which was welcome as we were starving!!
Matcha latte - 5/5 - One of the better matchas I have had in the last few months.
Soy cappuccino - 4/5
French toast with a side of bacon - 4/5 - Quite good flavours and the right amount of sweet. Good portion!
Chilli scramble - 3.5/5 - The chilli sauce was good, eggs fluffy and bacon well cooked. The croissant looked perfect but the top part was a tad bit hard to eat. Bottom part was easy as it was slight soggy with the eggs. Overall a good dish but would have loved a softer croissant!
Sweet potato wedges - 3/5 - Served with tomato sauce, I reckon they would have tasted much better with sour cream or somesuch.
Overall a good cafe with a friendly vibe. I would definitely go back & try other things on menu!
What a secret gem in Southbank. This brunch place sits in a building shared between a church and kids playcentre. It is very spacious and have plenty of seats around. The coffee french toast are a delightful, light and tasty treat. The croissant scramble eggs are a smart idea as it is not as heavy as eating with toast.

It’s a hidden gem. The ambience is so inviting, it’s a place where you could have your moment and enjoying a nice coffe/food. The chai latte uses real leaves, the taste was on the milky side. The smoothie bowl was made to perfection, very well presented. Almond Mocha was nice too. Customer service, 5+ stars. Thanks Ciel’s team 👍🏻
Loved the place when we first walked in. It wasn’t too busy and very spacious. Service was really good and staff recommended some dishes to us.
We tried the pork belly burger, chili scramble eggs, quesadilla and the carbonara. Food took a little long to come however we weren’t in a rush so it wasn’t a problem. Food presentation were lovely, however the scrambled eggs, burger and carbonara needed a good amount of salt added, and we felt that maybe it just was missing some flavor/something extra! I had the carbonara which was really smooth & light as they don’t use cream (good for lunch), however not much taste/salt at all unfortunately. I thought the bacon would help but it still needed some extra flavor and I just couldn’t put my finger on it!
Overall pretty good, would love to come back and try other dishes!
One of the first time I’m so excited to post about a brunch place. I came here to try the 2 for 1 Zomato Gold deal and boy the brunch was awesome. Great coffee , they also have cold brew latte in bottle , really interesting.
We had a great bacon and egg croissant with chilli sauce and chilli inside. It was fantastic. Crispy bacon and croissant.
We also had the French toast with bacon, also lovely but not as much as the croissant.
Staff were friendly and lovely place to have a meal. 5/5 and I don’t give that out easily if you see my profile.
Love the matcha latte- nice balance of sweetness and bitterness- and the chicken burger was tasty. Partner liked the cauliflower dish too.Will be back.
Ciel Cafe is a spacious, warehouse-styled cafe newly opened in the busy suburb of South Melbourne. It immediately strikes me as a brightly lit and friendly spot that I would happily sip on their delicious, Winter hot drinks for a few hours, tapping on my laptop for work, breaking it up with a pastry here and there.
Went to Ciel Cafe to have lunch with friend as I am living nearby and found this place. Great cafe with plenty of space and great food, really good portion and so delicious. I ordered the chilli scrambled egg which the egg is so creamy and the chilli jam is just yum. Will come back for sure.
Tried this place out a few weeks back. There appears to be a church next door so it can get busy during church times. I absolutely loved the eggs benedict served with thick cut bacon. Coffee was good, service was great. Nothing to fault. Will be back soon.
Quiet, spacious and comfortable, Ciel cafe is a good place with friends. I ordered the fried chicken burger with chips. The crispy chicken was really delicious, most of my friends like it. The staff is friendly.
This was the best invite I’ve been to in a while. Food was actually delicious- my favourites being the Brioche French Toast with coffee caramel sauce and hazelnut praline, and the crispy Pork Belly Burger!! 😍😍 Also the service was so great and I loved the venue- so hipster and so cool 😎 And in a church I love- Planetshakers! What a bonus! 🥳

Hidden behind a discreet shopfront, Ciel Cafe is actually quite a spacious place. Despite the high ceilings and openness of the space, there’s still a sense of warmth and cosiness.

Ceil cafe is situated in an old converted warehouse, next to a convention centre and a child care centre.
It's industrial w a lot of black, steel w an open floorboard ceiling.
My strong almond latte was good, and the flavour alright, but I'm not sure what almond milk that this cafe uses.
I ordered the vegetarian pumpkin smash w a side of bacon so I could enjoy the best of both worlds lol
The pumpkin was tasty, and I really enjoyed the crunchy pomegranate seeds for their texture.
And the chick peas were well cooked, the sourdough was excellent w a great crust.
The crispy bacon was great but little under seasoned for me but that's was easy fixed.
The kale was crispy and healthy and everything worked well together. It was a well balanced meal and minus the bacon a great vegetarian option.
At the end of my meal I ordered a macchiato and it was served w the milk on the side which was really nice but the coffee didn't hit the mark for me. The coffee tasted a little bitter for me. If the cafe can fix this then this then my experience would have been almost perfect.
This place does all day brunch til 3pm (it closes at 4pm) and a seperate lunch menu.
Overall I really enjoyed this brunch and I would like to thank the owners for their kind invitation to visit their cafe.

We were invited to Ciel cafe today a darkly styled sizeable modern warehouse conversion in South Melbourne. We had a lovely breakfast starting with a warming chai to defrost the winters morning.
We ordered two dishes to share the avo garden and the pancakes. Both generously portioned and extremely well presented. The avo dish was stunning on the plate, the classic combination and simple ingredients but perfectly executed- you can’t ask for anymore than that.
The pancakes were visually impressive topped with a umbrella which took me on a tropical holiday and was possibly a nod to the coconut element in the nut crumble. The crumble itself gave the dish a crunch element to go with the beautiful brûlée’d banana and spiced caramel sauce. Another delicious dish that I really couldn’t fault
Great Food, Great drink, love their dirty matcha,great atmosphere, so comfortable for hangout,work ,great food, great service, the people are friendly, Perfect! Recommended!

HIDDEN GEM in south melbourne area ;) a must visit!
Concealed in the industrial area of South Melbourne and housed in a spacious warehouse style venue, Ciel Cafe offered delicious, beautifully presented modern Australian brunch/lunch meals. We had their fried chicken burger and pancakes. The crispy, thinly battered fried chicken came with tangy lime aioli and flaky croissant bun. The pancake was soft and fluffy, served with sweet white chocolate ganache, sour mixed berries and fresh orange curd. In addition to the great food, Ciel Cafe also provided friendly service, and lovely quiet ambiance. Ciel Cafe was surely a hidden gem.
Stopped in for a pre-service coffee and morning snack. Service was friendly and quick. Quite a large array of fresh pastries etc that we’re getting hit on hard by the steady flow of customers. Coffees were good, and our selection of pastries didn’t last long.
Roomy place with high ceiling and plenty of indoor seating.
3 words. Fried. Chicken. Burger. Gotta try it!
Also the best fruit toast I've ever had in Melbourne!! Two generous slices with lots of good fruit. Delish.

Sharing the same warehouse as the growing conglomeration of the religion of Jesus - Planetshakers church, styled in "dark" matt Black theme, steel posts & beams, exposed timber floor beams, curtain of anchor chains, long ex-wharf beam bench, semi opened kitchen, in this well set up warehouse style cafe ... spacious ...
I'm not too sure about their food, looks credible but their coffee, latte in this case is definitely credible ... Five Senses coffee beans "ambassador" and Synesso espresso machine are in the house, hence the well tuned latte.

Although I don't buy the Planetshakers brand of religion, I would be happy to buy their coffee religion - $4.00 latte anytime of the day, the paddock is a great place to chill out, just needed a few watts more to brighten up this paddock of space. JT-26/03/2018.
Great place for coffee! Good quality food Mon-Sat. Can get very packed on Sundays. Might take a while to get seats and food on Sundays. Nevertheless, great food, staff and atmosphere.
This place is a great place for coffee, pastries and food. Great atmosphere, extremely friendly staff, and in a good location. I always drink a magic and is perfect every time. Would highly recommend this place.

Love ciel. Local and convenient. Plenty of space - ideal to get a few emails sent while having a coffee. Coffee is great - I usually order flat white, long black or filter and all are on point. I also love the pancakes, and good old poached eggs with their side of bacon is actually delicious.
Absolutely love this cafe. I just work metres from this place and it's such a convenience to be able to get good food and coffee. Highly recommend!
Great service, my friend and I had the breakfast roti and porridge, we loved it. Coffee was great, we had a long black and a latte!! Pretty busy for a Tuesday at 8am.
Really yummy food and great coffee! Staff are friendly and always happy to oblige with changes in meal requests. Presentation of the food is beautiful & ingredients used are very fresh - which is a nice change! Beautiful interior with a relaxed vibe.
This place is absolutely lovely. It is big with enough space for a large group and the service is good. The food is very well cooked and extremely delicious as well as filling. Totally recommend this place.
A nice option for brunch on Mondays to Saturdays. Personally, liked the food more than the coffees - I enjoyed the Benedict w kale and pulled pork; the chilli pesto in the smashed avo is excellent too. Bear in mind that it's run by a different crew on Sundays.
Only found this place after a suggestion from a friend as it is tucked away for City Rd. The place had a great fitout and was very inviting. The majority of people were business types getting their caffeine fix, disguising it as a 'work meeting'. Coffee was pretty solid and I would return as the menu looks handy.
Absolutely amazing! Portion sizes are always perfect, ingredients are extremely fresh, and flavour is always unique and delicious in a way that I can't find anywhere else. I also like their regularly changing menu, but that there isn't a huge selection so it's always easy to choose.
The only reason I didn't give it 5/5 is there is quite along wait time to get the food.

Had a toastie which wasn't too bad but for tomato and cheese, I was hoping for more cheese.
The honey chicken burger is more expensive ($15 for the burger on its own). But it delivers quite well. A little more sweet than I'd have liked, but the chicken was crispy and the meat was ridiculously tender, so the sweetness could be excused. I think a bit more coriander would have helped balance the burger, but that they thought of corridander in the first place was a good thing :)
Went for a quick lunch. Superb steak sandwich with chilli jam. Excellent coffee, friendly and efficient service. This is a real gem of a cafe in South Melbourne
Great food, all day breakfast and lunch has become rare in our days, also the awesome space is ideal for a quick break from work drinking five senses coffee!

Loving the food. Came here for the eggs, bacon and smash avocado. Good stuff. Girlfriend had the softshell crab, she loved it. Great good, great coffee. Will be back for more.

CIEL - great new cafe in south melbourne. Love this cafe!! I reckon some of the BEST coffee in Melbourne - and that's a big call! Not sure what Reginaldstewart99 is talking about? I watched them standard put two shots in every coffee they made...

Lovely experience at Ciel! The staff are extremely friendly and are willing to provide the best experience. We got the breakfast burger and smashed avocado both of which were good. The smashed avocado didn’t have that X factor and tasted a bit bland, but still ok. Coffees were good and larger size compared to other cafes.
WOW! I had such an incredible experience at CIEL Cafe. The staff were so lovely and put so much care and effort into their work. I ordered the smashed avo and two coffees (because I couldn't get enough!), and I would go so far as to say that their smashed avo is the best I've ever had! So full of delicious flavours and so beautiful! It was very refreshing and exactly what I needed. Thank you CIEL :) When I'm back in Melbourne, I'll be sure to visit again!
We love going out for breakfast... with that in mind we can safely say this is the best brunch experience we've had. From the friendly, knowledgeable and highly attentive staff (all of them), to the delicious food, to the quirky yet delicious coffee... it was all amazing. Definitely worth checking out. We ended up buying their coffee beans to extend the experience at home.
