In a crowded bar scene, Whitehart stands out for it's cool vibe and friendly atmosphere. This place really goes off, and for very good reason. The space is large and a lot of it is outdoors, with an eclectic mix of furniture and decorations. I love the music choices here and it's popularity with the public shows that others agree with me.
The bar is well stocked with beers, wine and cocktails; and staff will whip up some fun concoctions for you. It's a real pleasure to hang out and chill at Whitehart on a pleasant day, and it's one of our favourites for this reason.
Beautiful, hand crafted, unique cocktails in the heart of the city. A little bit tucked away which adds to its charm. Great vibe!
Whether you're chasing a knock off beer or a couple of pre-drinks before a big night beyond, Whitehart can provide the energy for both.
It has been rare to find a bar in the CBD with a ripper selection of beers (rotating their tap and fridge selection almost weekly), approachable staff & a consistently solid vibe - often a blend of r'n'b, soul and hip hop tunes for your enjoyment. The spot has been a staple for my buddies and I for quite some time.
The staff are as welcoming and on point with their newcomers as they are with their seasoned regulars, and they're always keen to provide an insight into what drinks they've got to offer in a completely unpretentious way.
It goes without saying that, being a bar in the city, the vibe and crowd does change on Fridays and Saturdays but that has never stopped me from swinging by. But, of course, expect there to be a slight wait on your beverage. Always worth it, though!!
The concept of this bar is quite cool and very Melbourne. The set out is cool and quite and sets a good vibe for a drink.

Came here for drinks and the atmosphere was really buzzing Cos it was a Friday night. Service was brisk and we really had a good time. Drinks tasted as expected, was really good and not diluted. My only issue was the really loud music. As it is, there was already quite a crowd in the bar. With extra loud music, all of us struggled to hear ourselves. Hopefully they would scale down a little bit!
We stopped in this cool hidden bar with the dj pumping out music as we were early for our dinner reservation elsewhere. The atmosphere and music was great, I had to keep reminding myself it was only Thursday night.
We ordered a Breaking bud beer and an
Adelaide Hills 78 Sunset gin and tonic, we sipped on our drinks and enjoyed the aromas of the slow Eddy’s barbecue coming to life in the courtyard.
Seriously cool find.
Why have I not been to this bar before? It's like Section 8 but less seedy old men and a wayyy better beer selection. The wines I tried (a Pinot noir, sauv blanc and Chardonnay from NZ) were also all amazing, and I'm not even a big wine person. I visited for the Singapore Airlines "taste of Wellington" VR experience, but would happily visit again for any other reason. Between the space, DJs and great drink options, I can tell Whitehart is about to be my new favourite city drinking hole.
Located at the end of Whitehart Lane, Whitehart is a two story bar constructed from shipping containers and steel beams. It’s become one of our favourite bars in Melbourne’s CBD since opening in early 2017.
Cool bar and very convenient in the Melbourne CBD. Love the chilled music, grungy industrial vibes and greenery. There needs to be more of this!
Always have had an enjoyable night with friends at Whitehart. The only complaint -as it's winter- is that the outdoor heaters upstairs does a very poor job at circulating the warmth.
Stumbled upon this place whilst walking down the street and really liked it! It was a Saturday night at about 9pm, once we walked in the place was already pumping. Great vibe, good tunes and the crowd was loving it. The downstairs dance floor was going off, but as my group was looking to have a chat over a few drinks we went upstairs instead for the majority of the night. Not too crowded but with ample seating and plenty of heaters, the upstairs area (which I think serves as more of a smoking area) was fine and a good escape if you wanted to chill out and not dance. It also gave me a chance to appreciate the fact that this place was located in between buildings (a hidden gem, literally) but open air enough that it gave the impression of a rooftop bar minus the view. Would definitely come back - it gave me NYC vibes in the heart of Melb.
Really fun bar made of shipping containers. It’s kind of an indoor outdoor space, with upstairs and downstairs areas. Very very loud music though, so can be hard to hold a conversation. Typical bar drinks and prices. Convenient to public transport.
Came here for a drink before dinner. Really cool space, would be awesome after work drinks. Sparkling wine was nice. Could probably do with a few more seats
One of my favourite bars in melbourne, awesome double storey setup and always producing great music and atmosphere.
Drinks are a bit on the pricey side though ($12-$15 a pint)
What a great bar down a secluded lane. Great layout with seating down by the bar, and an upstairs area to catch the sun’s rays and to smoke your life away. There is also a rotating food truck and DJ stationed downstairs. The place offers a chill vibe, plenty of space and a good drinks menu.
You can't go wrong at Whitehart, the tunes are awesome, theres rotating food trucks so you'll probably have a fresh new menu every time you go. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable and the bar is expertly stocked with all the best spirits and fantastic wines. They have so many interesting and delicious beers to try and seem to have one or two new ones on tap every week.
Great little spot in the centre of the city, love the changing food trucks and beer list!
Had an espresso infused lager and an imperial stout, staff were knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Great barbeque too! Will be back.

What a funky bar, I came here with my sister because she read about it in a little book about Melbourne and this was a new happening place,
It raved about there being really good cocktails, I must say when your paying 20 dollars for a cocktail I like to be wow by it, these cocktails where not my liking, very strong and not balanced, however I would come back to have beef and wine next time.
I must say it had a few different people playing guitar and singing that was amazing, look forward to coming back again
tucked away in the middle of the CBD this venue is definitely one of Melbourne's newest gems. with rotating food vendors and the most amazing selection of beer and cocktails this place deserves a visit!
This could be my new place to hang out… if it’s a nice night! Came here on Friday with a friend to check it out and it’s actually pretty cool. We tried their cocktail they had on tap and it was delicious! Will definitely be coming back again!. Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)
To celebrate this uncompromising spirit and dedication to authenticity, The Wild Turkey Way event series will celebrate leading Aussie talent who embody the ethos of ‘doing things your way’. . Tucked away from street views, this is hardly a bar worth hiding! A chilled out vibe for your day venturers, the perfect place to unwind for those who work 9-5 and for anyone seeking wild weekend antics, this is your bar.
Immerse yourself under the waterfall of beer selection, endulge in a delicate cocktail or simply refresh with one of the basics. This bar has it all and with the clever food truck concept changing every few weeks, you'll be back to see what else is on offer.
Oh and let's not forget about the eye candy behind the bar!
All in all, I highly recommend checking out this hidden gem. It's the perfect go to for any occassion!
A former dreary car park space smack bang in the middle of Melbourne’s CBD has been revamped as the city’s newest Container Bar. In what’s sure to be a new favourite for after work drinks and weekend sessions alike, Whitehart has done everything right. Despite the space’s vast openness and industrial decor, it’s nothing short of - oddly - cosy. Giant steel frames supporting the upper container level are softened by ferns along the walls as well as untreated wooden tables and seating.
The two container bar itself showcases a healthy mix of classics on tap as well as a heavy dose of some of Melbourne’s favourite craft brews. A couple of classic cocktails as well as one on top, balance out a good menu where service will need to be quick, if the already large crowds are anything to go by. The smell of Ironbark BBQ’s giant smoker greets you and adds to the cosiness as you walk in. Whitehart’s plan is to rotate the food offering and entertainment throughout the year. Currently, Ironbark are churning out brisket, pulled pork and wings to go with your beer and afternoon sunshine.
Check it out.

First time I went there. I genuinely believe that it's a hidden gem.
The locations perfect, it's a very spacious Bar.
They have plenty of house made cocktails and beer.
DJ and a large dance floor is located in the bottom floor along side the bar.
There are bathrooms and a staircase that leads to the upper section that provides a great view of the bottom area including the dance floor. It has a large seating area below and at the top.
Music's great and the vibe is on point. Great for all ages.
Highly recommended
this is such an amazing place, i’m here with friend on Saturday night, not surprisingly, they are busy, everyone just out for drink and having a good night. it have my friend surprise me to order me cocktails, the result came out pretty good, it’s a pineapple sort of cocktail. and she have the salty type, which tasted pretty good, i have never try anything like that before.
also, they have so many plants around, love that!!
I had this place on my “have to go” list and I have to say that it doesn’t disappoint.
No table service, cool casual vibes, great decor, friendly staff and they have the best drinks!
We had four different ones and all of them has a special flavour, we couldn’t decided which one was the best!
It’s a must go!
Industrial city garden bar right off Lonsdale St. Great selection of gins and whiskies, with a few craft beers on tap. Friendly staff and plenty of plants.
Good vibes and cool place!
It’s excellent bar for meeting friends and enjoy your drinks!
I discovered here by accident while guiding my friend to a cafe. We decided to have some drinks here as the bar looks very attractive and interesting.
Fantastic cocktails, amazing staff, great music and a luscious garden backdrop, what more could you want?
Guaranteed good times at Whitehart 🍹
