Review New Quay International Buffet & Bar - Melbourne

We had a great time eating here. Although there was a 2 hours limit, but we chatted and stayed till 9pm. Guess we were allowed to stay on as the place was not full. Plenty of choices, mixture of cold and hot dishes, western and eastern food, I’m sure there’s something to suit everyone. My favourite was the red bean soup for dessert. It’s absolutely delicious and perfect for the cold weather. Waitresses were attentive, and will change your plate every round. Overall we had a wonderful dining experience! Thank you!

Came here for Mother's Day lunch. For $78pp, there was plenty of seafood options, which were largely topped up quickly as they depleted. Mostly Asian inspired buffet options for mains and dessert. Everything we tried was pleasant and fresh. Very attentive service with dirty plates whisked away when one has barely finished, but staff were really polite in how they asked so it was bearable. Comfortable seating and the restaurant has serene waterfront views. A gratifying experience overall.

International buffet restaurant in Dockland, convenient location and great view. Personally I like buffet restaurants. New quay provides variety choices of dishes and desserts with quality as its price. It’s a great place to spend sometime with friends and family as the price is not expensive compared to others and the service was great and staffs were very attentive.

Lovely and efficient staff. Dirty plates were never left on my table for long. Cold seafood bar was exquisite. Unfortunately the rest of the buffet was a let down in general. The duck and pork was very nice and had amazing flavour. The custard and icecream was good too. It's very much Asian inspired flavours and dishes. The salad were good as well.

Quality & quantity went down hill since first time opened🤮 Very business minded Chinese restaurant. ☆1 The table settings were not suitable for group buffet ☆5 The 2 people tables near by food have some space to walk ☆1 The group long table settings are extreamly narrow and crowded I was hardly able to move at the end row. I am tall & skinny category had to ask next table to move each time I go pass plus had to sidewalk to get to the front row. It was just very difficult to get to the food area. ☆1 The serving plates were entree size They don't want us to get food too much but I can barely able to put different type of dish. I hate to mix the taste on my plate so I got ☆1 one thick wrapped tiny filling prawn dumpling, ☆3 three tiny sized sweet sour pork & ☆4 two baby sized steamed muscles🦪 & ☆2 two sweet chilli baby octopus🐙 ☆1 The seafood selection was really limited and empty. I couldn't get Oysters whole time ☆2 Sea snail had a lot of sand & not washed enough. ☆1 Sushi was shocking hard as candy🍬. Well budgeted 3 types of baby sized vegetable rolls & tiny filling salmon roll were available. ☆1 I only saw near empty salmon Sashimi plate & never seen after. Though Salmon wasn't fresh & warm ☆0 I missed out icecream because they were removing all flavours at 7pm. I thought dinning time was 6pm to 8pm. ☆1 When you look close my sweets photo, only 8 baby sized sweets I got. Orange & green jelly looked too artificial coloured & unhealthy, sorry but I didn't take them. All cakes were nothing better than Coles. May be they are from Coles coz the cake looks so similar. By then, I was sick of asking people to move also the food wasn't nice or wasn't available, I went home to drink quality wine & cheese. For quantity wise you won't eat worth more than $60 even having just seafood. For quality wise, you are donating money for this restaurant for the squeezed seats. Either way, it was not good experience👎

Saturday lunch out with my friend after 4th lock down finished. Very excited to eat in with harbour view from the table. I love seafood so this place is heaven for me!! Lots of choice of seafood. Salmon sashimi & sushi, prawns, mussels, shells, octopus. And more. Mini size dessert is great. We can try lots of them. My favorite was puddings. Staff on the floor were very attentive. Overall great experience. Thank you !

It’s very disappointed we went to this restaurant to celebrate my son’s birthday on Thursday night! The atmosphere of the restaurant was very bad because the seats were so crowded with people closely! The restaurant reserved half empty site but fitted all the guests in one site only. Unfortunately, there were a table of 8 people nearby shouted, laughed while eating all night. Also, they never changed the background music which was playing only a few songs repeatedly. They played the same music which I had visited a couple years ago. There was no quality at all with this restaurant on that night! I won’t come back this restaurant again! Not recommended!

Thoroughly enjoy the seafood option here, Oysters, Prawns, Crab, Muscles. Here you will find mostly Asian Infusion meals. Which I enjoyed, Duck, Pork Belly, BBQ Pork and Steak. The dessert portion was a bit of a let down. They need to make the portion just tad bit larger with area surface, essentially it was a cube of cake. Bought. The Creme Caramel or Vanilla Panacotta was entirely a let down with no essence of sweetness. Bread and Butter pudding tasted like burnt milk. The only decent dessert was the ice cream which was purchased outside of the restaurant. However the custard pudding did suffice. However I did enjoy the experience the restaurant gave with the employees giving alot of presence in the restaurant, topping up water, clearing of tables. Great hospitality to the staff.

They don’t open for lunch today, but didn’t even tell us, website shows open and we booked beforehand and drove all the way down to find out it’s closed. Worst exp ever!

Having been here many years ago which the food was great, I decided to give it another go.<br/>This time round the food was salty, like I mean so many dishes were too salty.<br/>The deep fried chicken ribs, seaweed and even the green bean salad.<br/>Majority of dishes on offer were deep friend, but I guess that's the highest margin food to serve.<br/>I would give this place a miss considering the price per person for the buffet.

Attended my nephew’s birthday on Sunday 1/12/19. Adult lunch price was increased by $5 to due better food upgrade so they say!!! The food was not great! There was not much variety. Food wasn’t fresh and all the cooked food was salty! Very poor quality compared to the previous time I went. Pretty disappointed so won’t be going back!

Went there on a Tuesday night at 8pm. Food appeared to have been sitting there a quartet full since 6pm (opening time). This meant the lobster noodles were very soggy, seared scallops cold, pork fat condensing.. the list goes on. Some plates were empty (scallops / oysters) even though there were still diners. However were cooked / replenished on request. Though we only asked for 2 dishes as we felt we were 'disturbing' the chefs with our requests.. The above may be due to the lack of diners, however is no excuse for allowing food to be left sub standard for late diners whom pay the same price.<br/>Staff were attentive and restaurant was clean.

Fancy dining setting, nice jazz music in the background and the buffet was excellent. The prawns were tasty and there was many dessert options.

Honestly not happy about the food there, you can definitely tell the seafood is not fresh and just does not fit my taste buds or the people I was with, would never go back and it isn’t cheap either

Came here on the weekend for dinner and have been coming here many times over the years for dinner. The food back then use to be better but over time it’s just average, the only thing worth coming here for is the seafood. When they put out the scallops, Abalone, oysters, crab noodles etc. everyone just runs and get it and even push in, therefore it always runs out quickly and we have to wait till it refilled again which sometime is slowly. The hot food and desserts are average and the salad section doesn’t look fresh. <br/>The male managers that serves us when we get there is always nice and friendly but what upset us is when we dine on the weekend, the female supervisor name Ai Lien, she was being rude and arrogant and trying to push us to order more drinks, we came here for the food and not for the drinks, it’s like she trying to make a sale. Dinner already cost $65 and $68 and no drinks are included so if you order drinks it’s extra charge on top of the food. And another thing too that was annoying is we were only there for 1 hour and she was asking us if we finished. Me and my partner just want to take a break before we go and eat again. The restaurant was full and there were some people waiting at the front wanting to come in and eat. We felt really uncomfortable and it ruin our mood, we felt like Ai Lien wanted us to eat fast and go or finish up and go so she can let new customers come in and eat and make more money. It’s a buffet and we can eat what ever we like and it takes time to eat. It’s not our fault if other customer didn’t do a booking and must wait, or the restaurant is small and don’t have enough space to have more customer to come in and eat, or they are losing money so want to push customer to eat fast and leave so they can let more customer come in and eat to make money. When you treat customer like this, it’s a turn off and it shows all you care about is money and don’t care if customers comes back or not or if they tell others about their bad experience at the restaurant. I rather spend abit more and go to Conservatory in Crown or go to a Melba at the Langham Hotel and have more better quality food and good services. Not coming back here anymore.

I Been here for so many times. Good value for seafood buffet. If you really like seafood, this one is cheaper and good. They got fresh seafood and cooked Asian food. Dessert bar and fruits. Can do lunch or dinner.

It was a nice experience to spend time with my family at a buffet. We come during lunch as it was cheaper. <br/><br/>It was a smaller buffet with nice window view of the docks. There was a range of food, including seafood, sushi, ice cream, desserts, salads, greens, fried food and some Chinese dishes. <br/><br/>The food’s quality was alright as some food tasted better than others. I didn’t like the desserts as they were too sweet and bland for my liking. The seafood was alright, however, the cooked salmon tasted too dry. The sushi was decent but it had too much rice. I did enjoy some of the fried food and the chicken egg soup. <br/><br/>Overall, for the price we paid, I did not expect much quality. It was worth the experience and I did enjoy tasting different foods. I was very full after the buffet...
Plejmd
Had a late lunch and place is still full. <br/>Well laid out buffet selections. Fresh seafoods taste fresh as it should be. <br/><br/>Cooked buffet choices are typical Chinese cooking sans the too much oiliness. <br/><br/>Overall a satisfying meal that fills, especially after a long flight.

The prawns taste like they’ve been frozen and defrosted for million times thus they are like good quality indigestible rubbers on your palate. The Asian food all seem to me, who is with an Asian background, like they are exclusively selected from the freezer in Costco, Woolworths Coles or whatever Asian groceries and supplied to your mouth freshly just with the microwave reheating process, which guarantee the freshness and authenticity to the highly regarded customers. When comes to the variety and unlimited ranges of its western food and delicate dessert choices, however, they gave you the best of norms which from both the presentation and taste point of view you can never never expect.
Lisa Nguyen
Good variety of foods including seafood such as salmon and oysters and Asian style foods. Wide range of beautifully displayed desserts. I found the taste quite average. The only thing worth the money is the salmon and oysters. Everything else was just meh. I tried a few desserts and did not enjoy them. The bread pudding was soggy and the jelly was hard and some desserts had quite a bitter aftertaste. Waiters were kind and very attentive constantly removing every dirty plate. I agree with the other reviews the buffet is smaller than expected. I probably wouldn't come here again.
Ha
The food is average. I went there with my friend mainly for the seafood. The oysters were taken so quickly but it took them ages to bring out the new ones. It was like you had to watch out and be very quick to snatch oysters or they would all gone. It was not a good experience at all.

I went down to Melbourne to see some relative and I wanted to book a dinner for my big family and I came across New Quay buffet which was reasonably price . This place exceeded my expectations and gave me a great experience. The variety of fresh seafood is great and they even got some Asian cuisine.

I've been to this place a few times now. Everything I've tried so far at this buffet has been fresh. The food is relatively tasty, but nothing extraordinary. A bit expensive. There isn't the largest variety of food, but I think there's something for everyone. The desserts are extremely good and there's a great variety to choose from. <br/>Unfortunately during my most recent visit, one of the staff who was clearing the plates from our table stepped on my foot very firmly (I was wearing open sandals so my foot wasn't protected). They didn't remove their foot despite my efforts to pull away as I was in pain. The restrooms are in a very poor state and are in desperate need of cleaning, which surprised me because the dining area appears very clean and tidy. <br/>Overall I'd say it's a good buffet to go to for more special occasions (due to the price).
Some Bunee Loves Food
Been here so many times, but the variety and quality of the food is gradually dropping. The desserts are still pretty good though, very nice bite sized portions and in their little cups. That's my favourite part of this buffet!

Fresh seafood (fresh oyster, salmon sashimi, prawn, scallop, abalone, crab, etc) and an extensive range of desserts are what I like the most about New Quay International Buffet. They don’t try for the quantity but the quality. Mostly Asian cuisine or Asian style so don’t expect a lot of steak, grills, or good bread.
Makaylan.2005
It was great here! It could've been better with the flavouring of some foods.<br/><br/>There was a variety of foods from different places like Japanese (sushi) and Vietnamese.<br/>The deserts were OK though. I tried jelly and it had way too much flavour it was hard to finish.<br/><br/>Overall, the food was enjoyable!
Andy
I came to this buffet thinking it qas gonna be a big seafood buffet, however when i came it was very small and did not have a lot of options to choose from which left me very disappointed and didnt enjoy my experience. The food quality is average and not very high, took very long to make the food, waited 1 hour for peking duck to come out and seafood took a while to come out.
Shalini
I have visited this place twice. For lunch buffet you pay only $35pp. Previously there was a good variety of sea food available that included oysters, crabs etc. Now a days for lunch you will not get those options. Seafood is available but only minimal choice is there. The other savoury options such as BBQ lamb was overcooked, pork dish was not very enjoyable. Good dessert options are there but savoury food is not that good.
Jennifer
Definitely a great buffet restaurant to try out! Food is amazing and seafood are always fresh. Good location along the Docklands and customer service is top quality.
Huani Neupane
It’s too pricey for me, but the seafood is really fresh. I had countless oyster and shrimps. Definitely be back- when I have extra money to spend though.

Dad recommended this place for quality fresh seafood in an all you can eat setting. So of course we went there with empty stomachs to get our money's worth. Located in Docklands this would not be my first choice as it is a little out of the way. But the restaurant was modern and did not feel like it was cramped like some of the other place I have been to. <br/><br/>We went on a Saturday so we expected all the best food to be there. Of course we headed straight to the seafood, including oyster, scallop, abalone, crab and clams. Majority of the food items were quite fresh, but the crab in crab noodle were definitely not fresh. To my disappointment, they did not serve bugs that are shown in some of the Zomato pictures. Also, you will have to line up for the best dishes, such as abalone and scallop (they are released in batches as they cook). They are restricted to only one each per trip, forcing everyone to go back to lining up 2 minutes later, which was quite ridiculous. Wait staff were efficient at removing waste bowls and empty plates, overall quite attentive. <br/><br/>While the seafood was relatively fresh we just did not like the way they restrict the good dishes that everyone wants to keep their costs low. <br/><br/>Food: 4<br/>Service: 3<br/>Ambiance: 3<br/>Price: 3

Such great value for money best buffet around friends took us and we had a great night fresh and tasty 😋 will go back. Staff all so happy.

Best value all you can eat buffet in town. Nice location along the Docklands Boardwalk and warm ambience in the restaurant. Great selection of food ranging from sushi and dumplings to chargrilled salmon and meats. Dessert was also impressive with small tastings of a vast array of cakes and unusual ice cream flavours. Must try the black sesame. Delicious!! Our 2nd time here and the food has improved. Will be back a 3rd time without a question.
Daniel
Fantastic selection of seafood. Particularly enjoyed the cooked salmon. The oysters and mussels were not very fresh. Great to see abalones and crab on offer.

I'm sorry, I have never left a negative review before, but i feel like people need to know not to get ripped off. I took my mum here for Mother's Day dinner and I was very disappointed. When i made the booking they never mentioned the surcharge for a start and then there was the food. Not as large as a variety as you would expect and the turn over rate was terrible. I would stand there waiting for some scallops to cook because they didn't cook enough and they would all be gone in a second and after all that waiting it was overcooked just like pretty much everything else that was there. The crab disintegrated into water. The prawns were rock solid and super dry. The salmon was like cardboard and the scallop was like dry rubber. You go for these delicacies and can't even enjoy it. Not to mention the fact that my hot food was usually cold or lukewarm (other than the scallops i waited for). Honestly the best tasting/cooked appropriately things i ate were garlic bread, chips, and bread and butter pudding. All of which i could have eaten elsewhere at a much cheaper price.

Pretty bad, waste of money, the tray of oysters was gone in 5 minutes and another tray didn’t come out for 30 minutes later. Had to wait for Peking duck to be made and it was made fresh before my eyes but was cold. Grilled prawns over cooked, crab noodles were good but again, had to wait ages before new trays came out because they’re gone pretty quickly, crab was no good, I’ve never experienced opening a claw and just getting water and mush exploding all over the place - not edible. Cheese cake and chocolate mousse cake were good.
Quyen Ng
I’ve continuously come back here as the food is good, price (for an all-you-can-eat buffet) is good; nothing too special! The location dock view is really good especially at night and there is more selection in food during dinner time.
Lan Chi Le
I went for lunch with a friend on Saturday so each of us had to pay $40. Totally not worth the money spent at all! The only seafood that is fresh was the steamed prawn. That’s it! The sashimi salmon and oyster were not fresh, fried salmon was made so dry that it’s an insult to the ingredient. Selection is poor, service was good though but still couldn’t justify the amount we paid. My first time and prob last time visit
Anon
It was really bad. They charged me extra on my birthday when I made the booking BEFORE they changed the website price and didn't email or phone me to make sure if I wanted the booking. Then they blamed it on me saying "You should have looked at the board and the site says 'prices may be subjected to change'". I booked for a specific day so that I would get the cheaper lunch price 2 weeks before the date. I don't know when they changed the site price but 2 weeks is a pretty long time in advance and they should have emailed or rang up to confirm that the price had change. I basically went on a two hour train to go to an over hyped up buffet only to be over charged. The food was kind of limited and bland. The only seafood that was really decent were the prawns. The sushi was falling apart at touch. I do not recommend going here at all. Presentation doesn't mean good food.
Justjob1991
Very bad in service and food quality and very limited time, besides, the staff attitude is very bad. i will never come back and wil review my bad exp to all food groups on facebook.
Bloomingalways
Very limited food variety, most food over cooked. It seems that the waiters are in a rush and keep on asking customers whether they are finished or not. Very bad experience as a buffet lunch.
Isle
First time at this restaurant. I like it. Service is superb. The staff arranging and manning the stations are attentive and quick. The staff assigned on our end are nice & efficient. It can get hectic esp on weekends, we went on a Saturday noon. A bus load of tourists had lunch with us. Full house but turn over of food was quick. I do not know if they serve oysters here but then again with scallops, salmon, mussells, prawns etc etc - you won’t miss it. Food all in all is above average for a buffet setting. Very good quality for what you pay for. We’ll go back for sure. Note for management though: please put a label on the food so we know what we’re getting. :-)
Carroll Diep
The food always good and fresh especially seafood very generous,I am not a Buffet person but this is the only one I back and forward,<br/> The service is great too definitely recommended.

This place years ago was an amazing place, we came but about 3 years ago and it went down hill, however they have rebounded and this place is better than ever, food is amazing, quality and freshness is great
Cookie Monster
Their desserts are stunning to start with but i was disappointed when we went their as there wasn't any crabs left and saw some people next to us with mountains upon mountains of crab shells on their plate. I supposed it's because it is eat all you can and you have to be there early otherwise you will miss out. The octopus salad was really yummy but the other food are just average.
Max
I've been here numerous of times, it's a well priced buffet unless you come on a holiday or even valentines day. The food is pretty good but nothing too special, though i do love the fact they have a seafood bar! Service here is average, can't say i've had great service here. It can get a little hectic.

Total No. of Visit: 4<br/>A medium-price buffet that has average quality and selection... does its job, and I'm pretty happy with that. <br/><br/>What do you get from New Quay?<br/>When you are extremely hungry in CBD, planning to eat a horse (metaphorically) and craving for seafood, this is the place. Great family environment with affordable price. <br/><br/>Selection Range: 4/5<br/>Not a bad range - a bit of everything from freshwater crayfish, abalone and prawn to roast duck and beef sided with different salad. Just not the luxury stuffs. <br/><br/>Taste: 3.5 / 5<br/>Acceptable and satisfied - there are some great dishes but mixing with some food-court-standard food. It is definitely more towards Asian style though. <br/><br/>Service: 3.5 / 5<br/>Early dinner section is definitely better - food was topped up much faster. Late sections and weekend tends to be a little slow on everything but they do get busy (and be patience, they will get it topped). <br/><br/>
Hungry Panda
The quality of the food here has gone down heaps. Seafood weren't fresh, hot food stale and in general didn't taste very nice. The Peking duck was a hit and miss with some not having any sauce in it, not being wrapped Peking duck style and cold skin on the outside that was unpleasant to bite into. Most of the desserts are dry and hard and the waiters are a bit too aggressive in clearing plates, even taking a plate while we are still eating and just picked up the last piece of food! The only thing I did enjoy were the prawn crackers (can't go wrong), the sushi and their chocolate cake with real chocolate syrup, even though it was a bit over cooked. But then I was sick afterwards and the next day so maybe eating the sushi wasn't a good idea after all. <br/><br/>Would not come here again - expensive, tiny selection, mediocre, not fresh food and dry cakes.
Lauren
Avoid this place!! Food was not fresh especially the seafood and sushi which had weird flavours<br/>I just got chips and fried food after that to be safe as who knows when they replaced the other food. Dessert selection was minimal and they didn't top it up <br/>Ordered moscato and didn't taste like moscato just some cheap wine <br/>I was sick that night, never coming back!
Food Critic
Nice affordable buffet at Docklands. For the price you paying you getting lots of variety of seafood. Staff is friendly and only come here if you like your seafood because there more seafood choices then meat. Re-filling may be abit slow but there's time when I was there and I love abalone and crabs and chef brought out fresh new batch and I appreciate that because it wasn't busy those night but they still had all the seafood and didn't cut back any just because they are not busy and trying save to money. 😀
Kimungie
Not good! I miss the china bar signiture in the city, that was same price as this one, around 65 dollars per person, but we had massive selection of fresh food.. since that shut down we wanted to try this asian seafood buffet expecting the same.., it isnt even close to half of the selection, food was not fresh at all, the crab they had horrible smell. The non-sseafood section was all budget menu like chips and stuff, if i knew what i was getting i would have just gone to Conservatory i would have paid little bit extra. <br/> The girls were very attentive and happy, it was just the food that disappointed me. WORK ON YOUR SELECTION guys, it is not worth the money!
KLLYXNG
Their prices have definitely increased since my last visit but the food quality has not faltered. Service is still very friendly but the place does get busy. I would highly recommend booking for any number of group of people as you'd like to be sure you can secure a seat. I always visit during dinner as I think that's when their food rotation is very active. <br/>They have a great sushi selection including sashimi and a few rolls, their salad + seafood section includes oysters, crabs, prawns, even abalone and scallops. My favourite are the crab noodles and Peking duck. Fried food and meats are plenty, with Asian roasted meats, as well as ham, beef, chips and calamari rings. They used to have donuts but I think they've changed to lava cake which looked very decadent. There is an ice cream selection and a whole double fridge with little petit-fours (jelly, sponge cake, ice cream, cheesecake, profiteroles) vast selection. Do visit on a weekday to pay a slightly cheaper fare and get a taste.
ExceedMyExpectation
This is my favorite restaurant in Australia!<br/>Best fresh seafoods, great ambiance, good price, attentive service!<br/>Don't miss the creme brulee! It's the best I had in Melbourne!
Leo
This buffet joint is ok, expected lots of variety but it is just ok. Came here for lunch. On the day there were lots of tourists from China, so quite pack. I had tried all the dishes. Highlights for me were the sashimi salmon, fried chicken wings, crabs with noodles and most of the desserts. Check out the photos. Would I recommend to friends? Yes I would as it has good price point to food ratio.
Alice In Wonderland X Icebear
Great buffet to take your family, especially if they're Vietnamese because most of the staff here can speak it.<br/>TRY:<br/>*the seafood! Our pick includes the oysters, crab, salmon sashimi, abalone and crayfish in ginger shallot sauce. <br/>*to get in early for hot seafood options as the Asians can get greedy and we've witnessed people loading up their plate with all the abalone from the wok. Quite entertaining really but papabear wasn't impressed that his fellow countrymen wouldn't share and he had to wait until the next batch was ready. By standing next to the grill making small talk with the chef<br/>*the creme caramel and creme brûlée. The only two desserts worth noting! All the other cakes are pretty but dry<br/>DON'T:<br/>*forget to tip your waitress. Whilst tipping isn't required, the staff here are so friendly and helpful and they went above and beyond to help us as we had an autistic guest and when they realised the elders spoke Vietnamese, they went out of their way to keep checking up and making sure that everything was fine!
Samantha84nguyen
The food was quite nice and staff was nice up until 10 minutes until end of our session. They keep coming to tell us to get out because they need to table for he next session. The worst part of my experience which was not the fault of the restaurant was the damn customers pushing in and being greedy with the abalone. I knew the Chinese loved their buffets but to be low life scums that push in and taking everything and leaving nothing for anyone else is a whole new level. So disgusting. Lucky the chef that was grilling the abalone came over and took the tongs off the man that pushed in before me so i could take one.
Josephine
I would used to come to New Quay quite often a couple years back and decided to give it another visit. <br/><br/>Not a good idea! <br/>The staff would barely rotate the food or bring out new food till absolutely everything has cleared. I wanted some oysters but I didn't trust the last 4 that were sitting out since I had no idea how long they were sitting out for. It took them an hour before they decided to refill the oysters! The rest of the food looked dry and quite sad to eat. Desserts were very limited also. It's unfortunate because I used to like this place. Not anymore.
~Happy Neko~
If your a sweet tooth like me then you'll love the dessert bar :) There's always the 2nd stomach/ blackhole for more sweets right :) But beware they dont fill up the dessert bar often as they used to, if you want to try everything before they're gone you might wanna have few nibbles halfway during your meal :)
Chris Cappola
I have been going here for about 7 years now<br/>And the quality and service never disappoints. A nice location, good views and great food choices and options for all. It is a bit focused on seafood but a really great spot. One of the more consistent buffets in Melbourne.
David Chen
Nice experience seafood buffet in Melbourne there have well ranged of seafood selections and most of them are fresh. But some of them are just normal like crabs. Also another highlight is the sweet dish taste very good!
Adrian Sargent
Have always thought the food looks good, and thought one day I would try it out however will not go here as you can see the flies on the food from the window. Pretty gross 🤢🤢
LXV
An all you can eat buffet with an emphasis on fresh seafood! Food was varied and plentiful, however dessert was lacking that sweetness except the cheesecake. <br/><br/>A lot of people were complaining about the fact that there was no tags to identify each dish, but I actually think it's better with no tags. This way you choose foods based on smell and looks rather than your brain telling you "you wouldn't normally eat that", and if you like it you go back for more and if you don't than you leave it on your plate! <br/><br/>Buffets are the best place to try new things without the worry of wasting money, and who knows you might even find out that you actually like a particular food you thought you hated!
George David Michaelides
Bit like walking back in time when you enter this place, but that's not always a bad thing, fairly cheap buffet with above average seafood... perfect for stuffing your face before a game at Etihad
Jennifer
The price is quite affordable but isn't really worth the taste because i reckon they could've done better with the food !! Staff are lovely and super helpful though xo
Mustard
Great value buffet during lunch. They have a decent array of dishes, most of which is asian cuisine. In saying that however I usually load up on the fresh prawns and salmon sashimi as it's always consistently good. Interested to see what dinner has on offer.
Zhang Judy
Had been there several times, Nice buffet well priced, with a good range selections including sashimi, hot food, salad, seafood. Will definitely come again.
Leanne Dando
If you want all you can eat Chinese food! This is the best one they have in Melbourne. Chilled out and beautiful view of the dock however some days don't have much variety and other days it's okay. It's a little bit of a hit and miss however I quite enjoyed it every time I go.

Price: <br/>🦑Sunday - Friday dinner buffet was $63pp<br/><br/>Ordered: <br/>🦐There's a decent assortment of seafood but honestly, me and my family prefer Igg across the dock more! Igg felt like it had a lot more selections and the dessert bar over there is a lot more options as well.

Great environment, warm, friendly feeling BUT!<br/><br/>Dad's birthday celebrations ended with: Vomiting, Diarrhoea, stomach pains/cramps, cold sweats (stomach pains started 1 hour after, the others about 2 hours after eating). <br/><br/>1. Misleading! We saw on the newspaper that they served lobsters, so we called up and asked. The woman we asked told us there was lobster which was part of the buffet price, so we decided to book on Friday night (confirmed lobster). <br/><br/>2. Arrived on Friday night to find that there was no lobster, according to the waitress it was only on the menu at an added price. We asked if they had records to who was working/who booked us that night, and she said no. She continued to ask us if we wanted to order lobster.. Like no?! <br/><br/>3. Raw oysters had a stinky flavour to it, compared to Chinabar Buffet (I am an occasional seafood eater), but this stinkyness was not fresh at all. The boiled crabs were powdery and mushy in texture - again not fresh. The Moreton Bay Bugs were dry but at least had some firmness and texture to the meat in contrast to the crab. <br/><br/>Sick for 3 days after. Thank you so much to New Quay. Would not go back ever again - not sure if one off thing or it's normal but warning everyone else to be careful! Hopefully no one else suffers as badly as me and my family.

Service was good in the sense that waitresses cleared plates from table very quickly at a constant rate. Food quality was average. Only big problem is 'sharks fin soup' is more like 'corn starch soup' and the oysters were not fresh. Some of us had bad oysters and ended up with diahorrea!

New Quay Waterfront Buffet is at the top of the Docklands walk, having great views of the marina and overlooking Etihad Stadium. On Friday night, for dinner, the food on offer was an array of seafood and meats. Seafood was what I came here for. There were chilli crabs, clams, abalone, scallops, shark fin soup, fish, prawns, oysters and lobster. Yes, LOBSTER! There were bbq lamb, satay chicken, chips, fried rice, salad, sushi and cold cuts - meats and seafood which catered for everyone in my family. For around $63 per person, it was definitely value for money. The array of desserts topped off a great night. Going to buffet was a good idea to celebrate four February birthday celebrants in our family.

Everyone loves a good buffet and this was quite good. So much variety in the dishes, seafood, salad and dessert. Definitely value for money.. food was delicious!

- No top up for dessert after 2pm<br/>- Keep asking then waiting like 2 hour for the peking duck and it was cold and dry, the worst peking duck I have ever tried<br/>- Crab with the noode was not fresh as I expected like shrimp<br/><br/>

Buffet style all u can eat fresh prawn , scallops, abalones , fish , salmon , dessert and etc .Price reasonable around 62 aud a person . Great food and service is good and clean

Not the best buffet going around but it's well priced at under $30. The Peking duck pancake and salmon sashimi were my favourites, other options were okay with a dominance of Asian dishes. Good variety of bite size desserts, nothing was a stand out but all enjoyable. Nice location on the waterfront. Slightly over attentive service, offering tea and coffee prematurely during mains.

$29.5 lunch buffet has reasonable varieties to choose from. I am not a big fan of seafood, but the fresh Salmon and steamed scallops are my favourites here. Beijing Ducks run out very fast, but personally I think the taste is average. There are plenty of cold dishes and pan-fries. I would hope they can introduce more on Yum Cha or sushi dishes. It seems this place is especially popular among Chinese tourists. Overall, it's an affordable buffet at a nice location in Docklands.

Decided to try out the buffet and have fallen in love with it. Great value buffet. Love the seafood especially the crab. Great chicken skewer which goes excellently with their satay sauce. Quite a reasonable variety of dishes as well. Good service through more serviettes would be good to have.

A place with great customer service (although there aren't that many waiters) and a so-so selection of foods, although they don't have much variety, there are a handful of very delicious dishes that they have. Been here on multiple occasions with the family and i am always looking forward to the Peking Duck Wraps that they make, there is always a line to wait since the service is slow but the outcome is well worth.

Really bad and not worth the money. Limited variety of poor quality food. We arrived at 8:20. Most of the plate already empty.<br/>Really first and last time to come to this restaurant <br/>

New Quay is predominantly a seafood buffet. We went here for the dinner session for a friends birthday. The staff are very friendly and professional. The food tastes fresh and is quite nice. Lots of options for desserts and seafood. Not the best buffet we have been too, but not the worst either. <br/><br/>TIP: Don't forget to book! New Quay can get quite busy. Do try the sushi & Don't forget to try some of the desserts!

Came here a few years ago, I've just created an account now and I think it's worthy of mentioning. I received the worst service here, I did not enjoy many dishes therefore i just left it on the table (to get rid of). The manager came up to me and told me if i left anymore food, then he will have to overcharge me. This wouldn't be an issue if their food was edible.
Ruizu
Friendly staff but the food choices and quality was not worth the price they were asking for.<br/><br/>The Peking duck and roast duck was quite decent though.

I've been here three times. The flavour of the food is excellent and the services are also very good, but not much choices. The dessert is not as good as the seafood and BBQ.
KEN
Pretty good quality salad and dessert selection. I come here for the seafood, which is one of the best in Melbourne. Apart from the aforementioned, everything else is not worth it.
Thomasbantios
Cheap and nasty food. The Asian staff were very nice but the Indian workers were very rude. Budget buffet very low quality. Not bad for a family on a budget. Wouldn't come here again.

Great range, fresh, tasty, very friendly service/atmosphere, nice venue, good location, very well priced and value for money.  Highly recommend this to anyone.

Good dining experience for who love seafood.<br/><br/>Pros:<br/>• Great location with very nice view of Docklands harbour.<br/>• Wide selected range of seafood including blue swimmer crabs, crabs, tiger prawns, oysters, scallops, abalones, clams, salmon sashimi and so on. Fresh and tasty.<br/>• Friendly and effective staffs<br/>• Others menu including best Asian selected dishes: Peking ducks, sushi, lots of salad, some BBQ and wok.<br/>• Drinks is cheap as well.<br/><br/>Cons:<br/>• Only concenstrating on seafood. Not too many choices of meat.<br/>• Only 1 choice of soup (although crab soup was very yummy)<br/>• Dessert is average.<br/><br/>Overall, I will definitely come back and recommend for who enjoy seafood.<br/>

I guess it's cheap compared to Crown but I don't know why the food is so unsatisfying. Usually I'm all for stuffing your face at buffets, quantity vs. quality, etc. but this place gives me no joy. Maybe it's because nothing here tastes like anything. You eat the oyster and you think: I know I just put an oyster in my mouth, I think it even tastes like an oyster, but that oyster had no soul - why am I still eating here? Maybe I'm getting too metaphysical at a buffet.

This used to be one of my favorite places for a 'special night' after a tough week. The food used to be amazing and the service impeccable. The service has not changed but the food has. The recipes have been altered for the worse since new Management took over, the drinks menu has been heavily reduced, and they no longer make a point about restocking food once a tray is done.<br/>It's actually a big loss.
Tania
Wide selection of international food and seafood. I wouldn't recommend trying the crab that comes with the crab noodles, but the fresh seafood is worth coming for.

New Quay Waterfront is home to an impressive selection of seafoods. From prawns to bugs to crayfish, this outlet is definitely worth eating at. Alongside this, there is also a great selection of hot foods, Japanese style sushi's and sliced fish, as well as delicious desserts. A must try for the avid buffet-er.

$58pp Dinner buffet on 30.12.15<br/><br/>Wide range of cold seafood, eg shrimps, mussels, crab legs. but oysters were not very fresh. Salad choices were limited too. Hot food are more of Chinese style. Steam fish was fair, scallops went out very fast, the refilling was slow.<br/><br/>Dessert section took almost 1/3 of all food choices. I got 80% of the desserts to try. Girls can always eat more when it comes to desserts. <br/><br/>Overall: <br/>Average price for average food quality and average amount of choices.<br/>The location is good and you can have a walk at the harbourfront after a full meal!

Went here with a couple of friends for a birthday buffet dinner. At $63pp for a seafood buffet, there was an impressive selection of seafood to choose from, however since I'm not a fan of cold seafood I can't comment too much on that. <br/><br/>The Asian styled cooked seafood dishes on the other hand were quite nice. Some were a hit such as the black bean pippies, prawns and mud crab with noodles but others such as the abalone was overcooked (and really tough) and the prawns became too much after a while. <br/><br/>There was nothing too fancy with the selection of desserts they had on offer but I enjoyed how the desserts were made to taste in sample sizes. <br/>Overall the dining experience was okay and not too expensive compared to the Conservatory of The Melba, but I wouldn't be rushing back anytime soon either.

I took 100 work colleagues for lunch and everyone commented on how good the quality, variety and quantity of the food was. No complaints. Staff were friendly and accommodating.
Trisha
On the pricier sides for a buffet, however the variety and flavours aren't really comparable to the price you pay. Food is super fresh, but just didn't compensate for the price. The desserts however were a saving grace. They had cute small bite size proportions for it which I loved, so you could try pretty much an array without over eating

A very disappointing eating experience;<br/>Quality of food was below par, staff not attentive. The location of restaurant is gorgeous but such a shame that this buffet is below par; many more restaurants with much better food and experience for the same price elsewhere.
Boxitrepeat
For the price you pay, fresh seafood is hella worth it! Variety may not be wide but i absolutely enjoyed the prawns and salmon sashimi and even the charsiew and peking duck.
Linda Nguyen
You can tell they funnel all the money into the seafood and nothing else; only thing that appears fresh is the prawns. Desserts were mediocre and what salad bar? There is none. Dont bother with the sushi because its dry as ever. Not only that the host has no dining ettique; if youre going to sneeze please do so in a tissue and not right by our table.
Luke And Hannah
Loveeee the buffet here! Lots of seafood and other nice dishes, especially the stir-fried noodles with mud crabs! This buffet is way better than other ones considering the similar price range.
Mina
The variety of food is good but you can tell the seafood was previously frozen and most of the carvery items are overcooked and really dry. My favorite area was the desserts but inspect carefully before picking something up. Sometimes there are little gnats that fly around and get stuck in the jelly or cream! The cooked dessert items (like chocolate cake) were also dry due to being overcooked. Won't be back due to the high pricing for less-than-mediocre food. On a positive note, the waitstaff is friendly and attentive.

I dont know what people are praising this restaurant about but my experience last night was disappointing. We had the 8pm session and sat down got our drinks and went over to get food only to see empty, dried up trays of meat and half eaten trays of food. We ate some salad and went back at 8.30 to check if there was any fresh food and still nothing. When I asked the chef if any fresh food was going to come out he gave me a strange look and said 'soon'. When it got to 8.45 still no food. We got up and spoke to the manager who had no solution to our problem when we asked to leave the manager gave us another foul look made us pay for our drinks and offered no apologies and said 'see you later' We had planned an amazing evening and were so excited about our dinner plans, only to be completely and utterly disappointed in all aspects. And to charge $63 a person for that terrible experience is ridiculous.

Have been to New Quay for a good handful of times now. Generally a positive experience and really enjoyed myself gorging on all the food. Selection may not be extensive but food itself is still delicious.

For a buffet it's pretty good. They need to replenish the pekking duck quickly though XD<br/><br/>Love the green tea ice cream, oysters and pork with crispy skin.<br/><br/>I hateeeee the music XD<br/><br/>The downside is the price, it's very expensive.

Food was great. Service was good too. When it came to paying, i found it quite suspicious. So I went with a large group (we're all students by the way) who were paying separately. When it came to paying several of us gave the exact amount (with coins) and we calculated that we would at least get $10+ change from some not wanting the 50 cents change when they gave $30. As we handed it in to pay, we were packing up and I thought I should go up and collect the change (we weren't really going to give tips since we didn't need their extra services and they didn't do much but collect our plates). As I asked for the change, the manager (i presume) was counting the money (which was over $700) and like I said we already calculated that we have change. We asked for the change only to receive the reply that, "Since you gave us so many coins, we presume that you would be giving us tips." I stated once again that I wanted my change, in which the manager told us the same reason and that out coins had been chucked in the tips bowl with other customers tips in it. I'm definitely NOT happy about this as it was at least over $10 in tips which he (the manager) FORCED us to give.

Came here for a work lunch. Glad it was during the day, as I would have been extremely annoyed if I paid for a dinner here on the weekend.<br/><br/>The restaurant looks more like a higher end buffet, being right by the water on the docklands and having relatively modern interior. The buffet section is small compared to other buffets I’ve been at and the variety looks small.<br/><br/>I decided to do buffet in sections starting with the seafood. All I can say is that it was disappointing, sushi was a lot worse than you would expect from any sushi chain, sashimi wasn’t fresh, prawns weren’t fresh, mussels also weren’t fresh. Nothing good here.<br/><br/>Salad section was lacking variety, probably only a handful of different salads.<br/><br/>Hot food section was probably the most disappointing. All the deep fried food made me feel ill after a bite or two. Meat skewers, roasts etc. were also all disappointing. I didn’t even bother with the stir fry’s. One good thing in this hot food section was the lightly crumbed fish, where the fish was cooked nicely inside and the batter didn’t taste like week old oil.<br/><br/>I was looking forward to the deserts as they were nicely presented and the variety looked good. After sampling 10+ cakes, two ice creams, crème brulee, my favourite desert was an orange jelly. Everything was lacking flavour or just wasn’t sweet.<br/><br/>Giving this place a 2.5 is generous. It’s only getting this for the amount of food one can have for $30 during lunch time. If you’re planning to do a nice work lunch, there are many better food options along the docklands, where $30 will get you a tasty and filling meal.

The worst buffet I ever had. Everything is less than average. The only good thing here is the location and the views. I don't understand why people still going there.
