"JUST OK" CAFE WITHIN DYMOCKS BOOKSTORE
Dymocks Bookstore is a Mecca for booklovers across Melbourne but its instore cafe doesn't have the same drawing power. It's a bit gloomy (with no outside views) and has a 1970s cafeteria feel to it. The menu is largely coffee and run-of-the-mill cakes.
OK if you want a quick caffeine fix before you buy your books but for anything more serious, there are some very good coffee shops in the vicinity.
people with mobility issues will be fine here as it is on one (lower ground) floor with no steps and lift access from the arcade above.

Finally made it, my third attempt to visit, and it was worth the wait!
Situated inside Dymocks, to the left of the checkouts-its surprisingly big when you enter, the girls serving were very friendly, excellent customer service-the coffee definitely passed my very high standards for coffee, and the Pumpkin and Feta Quiche, was very tasty, and served at the right temperature-I was offered salad with the quiche, but the quiche was enough for me.
Definitely going back, next time I will try one of their many delicious looking cakes.
Very highly recommend a visit đ

Very good Cafe in the city with excellent coffee. Cakes are always delicious and its very good that they also have gluten free and vegan choices. Will definitely be back for a visit for their savoury menu.

A lovely cafe in the heart of the city with great coffee and a variety of delicious treats. I loved that they had a selection of gluten free and vegan options. The bookstore is right next door, so you can sit down and have a read and a cuppa after your browse.

I love the ambiance of this cafe set in a giant bookstore. It would be my regular coffee spot if the customer service wasnât non-existent. The food was all wrapped up well over an hour before closing which turned me off from eating anything there, the coffee was good though.

But the staff just seemed like they didnât want to be there. No smiles, no hello, no âhow can I help youâ. They seem miserable. Itâs been like that every time Iâve visited this otherwise nice cafe.

Great cafe within Dymocks. Service was a bit abrupt but the coffee was great. It was tucked away the seats are nice and comfy so a great place to rest your feet and flick through a few books as well.

I dropped into Dymocks because I needed to be among books and people who like books.

Then I saw the little cafe. Not so little, actually. All I needed was a caramel milkshake to recover and go back out into the warm air of the day. It went down well. I didn't need to ask for double-strength flavouring.

Enjoy coming here for a quite lunch. It's tacked onto a large bookshop. The staff are always welcoming and take the trouble to learn your name.
Bam!
It's nice to see bookstores are still around. A big bookstore underground this cafe sits in the corner. Very relaxing atmosphere and the lattes are made just right.

We go there quite often and the staff are always very friendly and helpful. Â They have a selection of really delicious vegan savoury pies, salads and yummy deserts.
Prices are very affordable.
The cafe is peaceful and it is a great place to meet up with friends for a cup of coffee/tea and it is quiet enough that you can hear each other speak.

Cafes and bookshops and lunchtime visits. I think the bookshop cafe is sadly missing from Melbourne's convivial landscape. I like this cafe. It's not hip, the food is unpretentious, and the service is genuine. It's also quiet, which allows me to collect my thoughts, put pen to my notepad, and wonder how they made the vegetarian pie taste so much like meat?

Great food, great staff, well priced. I regularly visit Dymocks cafe - they have great veg and vegan options, including FUNKY PIES and MISTER NICE GUY cupcakes, which everyone loves regardless of your diet. Their salads are always interesting, seasonal, fresh and nutritious. Staff are always friendly and prompt, and it's such an ideal place to meet people - browse books until your friends show up.

Thanks Dymocks Cafe staff - you deserve a shout out for being consistently good.

Hopefully it's only a once-off but 20 minutes for a simple coffee is a bit long. There was only a couple of people here when I arrived.

Dymocks cafe is in the heart of the city. Sadly there is only one Dymocks that I know of and its in the citythere used to be one in Highpoint. I had $50 (courtesy of Collins 234 which they gave out to everyone at MSFW- Melbourne Spring Fashion Week) book voucher to which I bought some books. Some of them are gifts for friends. The cafe is small and hidden in the corner. But its cozy though and you can enjoy reading a good book in there. This is cash only and you have to pay for your books beforehand. Â There are no bathrooms in there. They are at Australia on Collins. The service was friendly and the food is great for the health food freaks like myself. They have vegan food and they use a2 milk. I had an all American breakfast of bagel, coffee and fruit cake. All for $14 altogether. Loved it except my coffee was burnt. The fruit cake was crumbly and not too sweet. The other lady admired my cake. The long black coffee was burnt. I couldn't taste that nutty flavour in my coffee. Id love to
