Honestly my favourite cafe in the CBD, never have I visited a more consistent venue! I’ve been a regular for years and never has my long black (such an easy coffee to mess up) been anything less than perfect! Amazing, friendly staff and 10/10 coffees. Just wish it was open weekends too
The staff are just warm and lovely and the coffee is pretty darn good. It’s a cute little cafe with good, honest food. The ‘ Baked Mushrooms on Sourdough’ (pictured) was a tasty vegetarian option. I’d go back again. #blahnikcafe
Dropped in impromptu last Friday 1.30 pm. met 2 friends for lunch.
Simple decor, busy place, seats perhaps 30. We all went for their hot food lunch specials.
About 10 or so different hot dishes to choose from (rare beef, greek lemon chicken....). Lots of appealing fresh looking salads etc.
I got BBQ Chicken Maryland side served with broccoli and a salad. Everyone enjoyed their choice.
Reminded me of eating at mum's place and she knows how to cook. Excellent food, delicious. $23 inc a beer.
Very reasonable on price-value equation front considering quality and the full plate.
Come back for sure.
Have always enjoyed this cafe-beautiful setting, wonderful coffee and lovely staff. Coffee gets served a sample slice of cake on the side (although I try to avoid the temptation of eating it). Haven’t tried the food to comment on, but nothing but positive things to say otherwise.
Very solid and enjoyable lunch here. $14.50 for a meat (I had meatballs) and two sides is excellent value. The serving sizes were very generous and I enjoyed my lunch here a lot.
It’s been a few years since I’ve been in high school. But I do remember fond memories scrambling from the lockers and bolting straight to the cafeteria for first dibs for the lunch time delights. If you were late by even 5 minutes expect to see a sad pile of soggy hot dogs that costed $2.10 each (sauce not included).
Almost a decade later and and few more hot dogs under my belt, Melbourne’s CBD is now my cafeteria. Sadly, potato cakes are no longer $0.50c. Fortunately, there’s still quite a few places in the CBD that still offer cafeteria style lunches. Lunch time squad assembled, we made our way to Blahnik.
Blahnik is a jack of all trades. They offer coffee, quick-to-go sandwiches/rolls/wraps but their main quip is their hot meals towards the back. For $14.50 (Roast chicken is $12.50), you choose a main that ranges from roast beef/lamb, rogan josh, lasagna etc and your choice of two sides (salads/chips/roast potatoes). There’s a lot of variety and I’d be surprised if you don’t see an item you fancy.
The awesome:
- On my first visit, the lamb called out to me. Coupled with a tangy beetroot salad and some ungodly delicious roasted potatoes and I knew my plate was all kinds of special. The servers are extremely generous with their thick cuts of lamb and the gravy/jus they were cooked in was savoury, rich and my level of saltiness. I just couldn’t stop eating it! Due to the saltiness of the lamb, the beetroot cut through with it’s acidity perfectly. Don’t get me started on those potatoes. Recommended.
- They were so good, I think the roasted potatoes deserved their own special shout-out. I came to realise on my second visit, the potatoes are only served on a certain days! You may be disappointed to find out their not a daily regular (as was I). The taters were fluffy on the inside and was obviously roasted quite a while with drippings caramelised on top. What you got was a deliciously cooked potato that was tangy and goes well with whatever protein you choose. Recommended.
I can’t deny Blahnik of their variety in mains. You are seriously spoilt for choice either for mains and then sides. Bonus points for variety!
Note: I came here on a second visit and chose the roast beef with a beetroot salad and scallop potatoes. I would advise against getting the roast beef due to the toughness of the cut and the plastic cutlery having little to no effect on cutting the beef. I was also disappointed to find out out the roasted potatoes were not a regular side. Scallop potatoes were tender and creamy but wasn’t the same. (Score based on first visit)
We popped in here for a quick weekday breakfast before work. Blahnik Cafe is located down Enterprise Place which is an area I've only just started exploring. It was quite welcoming but furniture a little dated. I was visiting with someone of an allergen avoidance diet so she had a lot of questions around gluten and dairy which staff were able to answer with confidence. The staff member was very knowledgeable about ingredients in all the dishes and helped steer us in the right direction.
I lashed out on the calories today and had Croque Monsieur with thick egg dipped pan fried bread, ham, cheese and mustard. It was delicious. My allergen friend ordered poached egg and salmon on gluten free breads and a decaf coffee. No complaints about this dish either and apparently the decaf was damn fine ( her words). My coffee was effortless to drink pleasant without the need to shot up.
A great little find with friendly staff and quick service.
Dropped In here for a coffee this morning and it was perfect.
I had a piccolo latte and it was fantastic, half full of froth, strong and it came w a small slice of a brownie. Just what I needed this morning haha
And what lovely service. Really worth a visit.
Great portion size!
You have a choice of a big piece of meat plus 2 sides (either unhealthy or healthy).
The Asian slaw is really good and the mustard chicken as well. You can actually divide this into two portions for 2 lunches when you're at work.
It wasn’t until I caught a glance at the plates of diners and saw roast meats with veggie sides that I decided to step in. I have been skipping this cafe every time after seeing their breakfast menu ends at 11am and what followed for lunch was only burgers and sandwiches. Many customers were just crowding around the counter, so I had to make sure I made eye contact and spoke up when an available staff asked if anyone was waiting. Their Ready to go Lunch Menu starts at $12.00 and includes 2 sides (salads, veggies, potatoes, rice or chips) with a main (roast lamb/pork/beef, pasta/chicken breast/chicken steak/fish of the day, lasagne, thai chicken pattie, tuna pattie).
This time at Equitable Place is Blahnik that isn't too bad for office workers around the area. Further to the back are ready made meals, where you get to choose a main and two sides for $12.5.
First time I had some prepare sandwiches and the previous time I had the spinach and ricotta arancini balls. This time around was the mushroom penne with roasted potatoes and steamed veges.
The portion size is a bit more than average and definitely enough for lunch. The chips here are also nice (from colleagues plates) and they do have other meat dishes for mains.
Drop by for a quick lunch.
Pleasant little cafe, with good food and friendly service.
Best cheapest tastiest big breaky in CBD! Pretty venue and friendly staff
Super-slice me!. I popped into Blahnik one morning for coffee whilst I was shopping for Christmas cards on Elizabeth Street. I got such a deal! On coffee and pastry from Blahnik, that is. I just bought some stereotypical surfin' Santa and kangaroos around the Christmas tree cards for friends in North America -- they expect that.
What I didn't expect was how massive the pastry slice was that I ate with my coffee. It would have been right as two pieces. The graham cracker crust was thick and hard to bite through (even though I have teeth like a beaver.) Also thick was the layer of white chocolate ganache, topped with sugar-coated corn flakes that were shot through with candied cherries. Atop it all was a lashing of cashews. It was big, busy, tasty and only cost $3.50. In fact, I think the barista (she sounded Irish, perhaps a work visa tourist, and she was more pleasant than the servers the reviewer below encountered) must have UNDERcharged me. She handed back $14.50 change from a $20 bill, and I had a decent large flat white along with the pastry. This was like a Christmas present from Blahnik.
Great food, service could be better. Love the food here - it's the place to go to for lunch. A fab range of sandwiches, paninis, baguettes, salads and the best range of hot food at this end of Bourke Street. The only thing that lets this place down is the service which is generally very apathetic. The staff that work there regularly seem to always be down in the dumps, bored or would rather be elsewhere (not a smile to be seen) while sometimes a new or casual server is more pleasant to deal with. The female manager/owner is also great and needs to influence her staff more. Also needs to be more training around serving size - some staff are miserly while others more generous - depending on your luck you will either be full for the rest of the afternoon or starving after an hour! My salad yesterday turned out to be a box of lettuce which was really disappointing, and expensive.
Just downstairs from our hotel. Generous servings and tasty ingredients for cooked breakfast. Mushrooms were very piquant and eggs done to my liking. Staff attentive and my coffee was steaming hot and strong as I requested. Lovely decor too. A real gem.
This is the place to enjoy the best eggs Benedict in Melbourne! The food is delicious, the service is outstanding and it's just the perfect spot to catch up with friends for that brunch chit chat. Shout out to the owner Hunish, who makes a special effort to greet all customers...that is phenomenal. Did I mention the prices were crazy good too?!
Good portion, friendly staffs and good food!
Great food , great atmosphere, excellent customer service ! We just had to go back!! Recommend you go , thank you again Blahnik we will be back when we next return to Melbourne.
We had breakfast here and the atmosphere was amazing, such a cute little place with lovely music playing at the right volume. We had eggs sunny side up and scrambled and they were brilliant, it’s hard to find fault with the amazing customer service. The iced drinks are very well made also with the thick shake and iced mocha being a highlight. We will definitely be visiting again!
Great range of meals, friendly staff, serve size was good, food was tasty.
