Gluten/refined sugar/dairy-free raw vegan paleo desserts... Mostly made on a cashew and coconut base. Plus smoothies and juices and a very nice organic, fair-trade single origin coffee from Guatemala. Just don't be fooled into thinking it's healthy... It's still dessert!!
Price aside, the food is epic. The fact that everything is vegan(expect milk option in coffee), raw, gluten-free and sugar-free is fun and innovative.
My gripe is on three occasions I’ve been there 30 minutes before their closing time and they’re already shut.
This place reminds me that you definitely don’t need refined sugar to make delicious slices and cakes. Everything is so yum and the staff are great at explaining the ingredients in each item.
Friendly staff, cool hangout, great coffee and delicious, beautiful-looking gluten-free cakes - protected from the hustle and bustle of the CBD. What more can you ask for?!?! For those who like a citrus hit in their cakes I totally recommend the lemon cake.
If you guys didn’t know, I have a massive sweet tooth. For as long as I can remember, I’ve always had a very special relationship when it comes to desserts – especially chocolate.

I’ve ordered the Energizer smoothies the other day.
It was pretty nice as I like the blueberry and cinnamon. The staff was really friendly and the cafe is quite lovely.
I would visit again and try their sweets !
I love the treats from this place. All vegan, raw and healthy which is right up my street. Yes the price may be a little steep, however the food is delicious and the portion sizes are filling and reasonable, compared to other places of a similar concept that charge around the same for portions half the size. I purchased the selection box for $10 which contained a protein ball, a small slice of doughnut and a small slice of cake. Its a great way to have a sample of a little bit of everything they have to offer, especially if like me you can't decide which tasty treat to get.
This place is not for everyone, but it's definitely my favourite place in Melbourne to eat. It's so healthy and delicious (if you're used to not eating processed sweets). The "raw cooking" classes are excellent value and have helped me on the way to eating better for a healthier lifestyle. So happy to have found RT! ❤️❤️❤️
Came here with my mom this afternoon. I’ve got an Apple Crumble. Tastes not bad, I guess maybe average. Price is kinda expensive for this slice, although it’s Vegan, GF, blah blah blah, the price should be reasonable. I expected more flavours and tastier.

I had a delicious Banana, Acai and Almond milk smoothy for breakfast, followed by a takeaway coffee.
The smoothy was delicious and the almond milk flavour was nice and creamy.
I also left some shopping behind which the staff kindly put aside for me to collect later in the day.

If you are in the city and after something sweet but on the healthier side, then Raw Trader may just be the place for you. Located only a short walk from the Melbourne Emporium and delivering as they put it, “the highest quality decadent products without the guilt!”. With the brain behind Raw Trader living with gluten intolerance, they can confirm that “All our products are gluten-free. We are a GF site.” It is always great to not have to stress about cross contamination. They have a full cafe menu including drinks and eat in dishes. This location has a few small tables surrounded by a natural rustic atmosphere, where you can enjoy your treats.
Great little pop up store in Mornington Pennisula. A random location... Only small with a basic menu... A few interesting things on the menu. The ingredients are well thought out and all super healthy...
I loved how cute the cafe was but the raw deserts and matcha latte i tried weren't the best especially for their price. The service was great though and I love its concept and layout!

Not really one for raw food but this place is great, I admit. It's open late at night compared to pretty much all cake-selling-places in the Cbd. It closes at 6pm (though I swear it used to be later- more like 9pm). I have sat here on my laptop working, there's not much space so you are lucky to get a chair but it's a good experience when you do.
They provide (or used to anyway) free wifi. That's great for working on computer/playing on phone. The cakes CAN be hit and miss but you gotta find YOUR flavour and just consistently order that. Don't try experimenting with different cake flavours here once you find "your one"; pretty much each flavour caters to a different palate (I only like 2 of the many cakes here, the other are all gross to me in different ways). Teas are nice, coffee I reckon is nice, I've had it but I can't remember though I don't remember being mad about it.
Juices? Unmemorable but I remember they sounded yum on the menu.
I like the staff they are not as pretentious as the customers they serve.
Really nice desserts! My bf and I tried the rosewater and pistachio fudge and lemon and coconut fudge and weis slice, all yum but rose one was best. Bf also got a cappuccino and said it was really good.
Small but v cute decor. Delicious sweet treats and tea. I had the Carmel slice and chai tea. Carmel slice was not very heavy which was great.
This is great for an allergy ridden worker. I love their green juices and I have never been disappointed by the raw slices. They offer a great range, including donuts and even ice cream. My next try will be the Matcha latte, I expect good things. Ice cream in the summer will also be fun! It is pricey, but considering the product you are recieving, it is definitely reasonable.
Nice cafe. Totally vegan snd sugar-free desserts. Woah. Keeping up with my diet and having sweet tooth- this place is meant for me. The platter is good to choose if cant select what sweet to buy. And they got organic smoothies which are really good.
All the cakes tasted like nuts and had a very nutty texture. The tiramisu tasted like nuts, the chocolate mousse tasted like nuts, everything was nuts!
Stunning selection in the cabinet, but on first walk-in I did think that the slices were a bit pricey. I'd come here if I was really dying for a cleaner sweet treat but I feel as though there are other places which serve up similar items for a more affordable price tag.
I finally tried this cafe after following it on Instagram and salivating over the fantastic photos. I tried the caramel slice and a soy chai latte. Both were very nice. The chai was made from leaves. I can't wait to return to try one of their many cakes. It's nice to have a place with so many options for food intolerant people.
Raw Trader is my all time favourite cafe because of their wide range of delicious raw vegan desserts and drinks. Once in a while I would come here to have breakfast or afternoon snack.
Their coffee and hot drinks are more expensive than other cafes, starting at $4.00, but you can choose to have your coffee with any milk you like without extra charge which is pretty good. Raw Trader's desserts are quite pricey when comparing to other cafes with common baked desserts but their desserts (depending on the flavours you like) are always very delicious and flavourful. Plus all the desserts are healthy...if you remember to consume in moderation hehe.
I have been working around the corner from The Raw Trader and have always wanted to check it out, but being so close to everything meant I been somewhat neglectful. I have no idea why. Had my morning soy latte from here and it was perfect. I also, on the spur of the moment purchased a rose water donut which I almost forgot about until 4pm this arvo. It. Was. INCREDIBLE. I stopped whatever I was doing and savoured every mouthful- divine bliss!
Only 'downfall' would be pricing, up to $3 extra (for two coffees) than some other local Cafes around. The donut was also $8 so as much as I wanted seconds, I may have broken my bank.
All in all, I'm going to pay it a once weekly treat! Totally worth a visit!

I'm not a fan of any of the cakes, I think they are very bland and lack flavour and further are overpriced. However, the slices are nice. I would recommend the peppermint or cherry. Further to this the donuts sold previously were incredible. The coffee can be a hit and miss, and further the juices are pretty average. The egg-nog going back to Christmas time was delicious, I hope you make it again moving forward. The service can be friendly at times, although sometimes it can feel like you're not very welcome which is disappointing and acts as a deterrence to visit more frequently.
Another place I've been going to for years and have been consistently impressed by. Amazes me every time how tasty a healthy dessert can be. Have also tried pretty much all the smoothies and they're 10/10 - and all very different to anything I've tried elsewhere. Not the cheapest, but well worth it once or twice a week in my opinion.
Raw desserts are my weakness. Friendly service. Seating a little cramped but hey it's the Melbourne alleyway experience. Great variety and love that it changes daily.
I finally found a place to get a birthday cake which is vegan! I am so happy cuz it tasted amazing! We loved the banana cake, Carmel chocolate cake and the lemon cake was very zesty! I also had there detox smoothie which was amazing! Definitely try this place out! It's organic and healthy! For sure will be going back!

In the reticulate laneways of Melbourne CBD lies a little nook of raw food oasis. Aptly named The Raw Trader, the cafe brings the harvest of mother nature's work, organic and unprocessed, to Melbourne's 4million.
For many, raw food conjures the image of salads. For Emily, the owner and recipe developer at the Raw Trader, however, raw food is a medium for her to recreate classic desserts, like cherry ripe, mint slices and tiramisu. Only this time, you'll see these timeless favorites in its organic, raw, vegan, vegetarian, paleo, gluten free, dairy free and sugar free form.
Raw Trader offers a range of slices and cakes, catered well towards those who have allergy or dietary requirements. Prices are not cheap, at around $8-12, however, the serving sizes are not small as the slices can be quite rich, so they can be easily shared among friends. The flavours of the slices and cakes are good considering they are so allergy-friendly, especially as the taste grows on you, but I do prefer my usual indulgent and not-so-healthy alternatives.
Tried the Chocolate Pecan Caramel Cake. It was my very first raw cake and while it didn't disappoint, it didn't blow my mind either. It was a little bit pricey, so I won't be returning too often. The service was friendly, but the lady took forever to box up my cake. She struggled with it for about 5 minutes before asking another girl for help.
Cute little cafe hidden away. All the treats looked delicious made it very hard to make a decision! I tried the cherry ripe slice and it was delicious not too sweet a bit pricey but would be expected for the quality of ingredients. Next time will have to try the caramel slice!

Delicious raw, 'healthy' treaties for those days when I can find the strength to resist Shortstop or Rustica Canteen. Love the raw almond snickers and the chai is a personal fave. Always a good selection and brilliant for those glutards among us.
Nestled in a little side street we stumbled across this gem. There is always something new in the cabinets to try and consuming one of these raw treats leaves you feeling less guilty than if you'd have visited a sugary cake shop.
Since my first blog post about Raw Trader in the city (Melbourne’s CBD) I’ve been back a few times on my own and with company. I follow Raw Trader on Instagram and sit there drooling every morning when they post a photo of what’s in the cabinet, though I get bummed out when I see the stuff I really want to try on days when I’m not in the city! Still, there’s plenty more to keep me happy.
Tried their vo-vo and hedgehog slices today. Nice to see some refined sugar free raw cakes so close to uni. Pana Chocolate is much better and consistent. This place doesn't have as much variety, the hedgehog slice was a but heavy on the cacao. Looking forward to trying the mango and coconut cake, mango and coconut raw cakes are always very promising!
Raw Trader is a café specialising in, wait for it, organic, raw, vegan, vegetarian, paleo, gluten free, dairy free and sugar free desserts and treats. Oh, and coffee. . We were therefore very keen to head down and see what impact abiding by all of these "restrictions" would have on the treats on offer. The raspberry and white chocolate cake we sampled was very pleasant with a low level of sweetness and wonderfully smooth texture - it definitely tasted natural and nutritious. Although on the pricey side, worth a try.
Lovely set out and reasonable pricing. The food is absolutely incredible and unique. In love with re beetroot cake and salted caramel slice. The staff were incredible friendly and helpful and very knowledgeable. Will be going back there!

A tiny cafe in one of Melbourne's laneways, Raw Trader is one of the few that closes late. Haven't tried out their cakes but the drinks are very nice though they could be a tad more hotter.
Great atmosphere, really rustic, earthy and clean looking. The cakes are all presented beautifully. I had the raw white chocolate salted caramel slice which was creamy and very filling.
Walked here on my lunch to try out some healthier treats - flat white with almond milk was absolutely delicious! Had the raw caramel slice, it was tasty but maybe a bit too heavy on the date flavour as I couldn't taste much else. However would definitely go back as all the slices looked amazing!

The food! OMG!. Okay, that chef, Emily? I think? I have a massive full on crush on her - she is such a great cook. I love to come here. Also, the coffee is outstanding, there's one little pocket rocket barista that gives me a bit of cheek and I love it. Lucky she makes great coffee! Haha. def a place to come and visit.
Best Raw Cafe In Melbourne. Amazing raw food cafe in the city. Loved the organic treats home made by Emily. The service is always fantastic. The girls are so friendly and helpful. Every time I go there, I try something new and it never disappoints. A truly awesome and unique place. Will be back for sure!
Finally a cafe for those with dietary requirements!. Raw Trader makes it so easy for those of us with dietary requirements, be it eating gluten free, dairy free, egg free, or lifestyle choices such as Paleo or vegan. Tucked down a lane way, you'll find a heap of snacks, juices and tea and coffee options. For most dietary requirements, the only thinking you'll need to do is deciding what to eat!
For those with nut allergies, it can be best to call ahead; the day we visited, there were no nut free options. Nut free options are on the menu, but as it rotates each day, it can be a good idea to find out in advance.
Great place!. Very tasty food! blueberry coconut slice was melting in mouth and so tasty :) Very generous portion of smoothies :) very friendly staff with extremely good knowledge about every ingredient and how it effects your health :) Definitely coming back soon!

I've been coming here now in my 5th week, and loved it...The raw almond late...has raised my coffee expectation to another level...my favorite r 2 many...bounty, snickers , cherry ripe...The kiwi...oh my....Thank u...for the amazing treats, and the smiles everyday!!

Had the carrot cake and a ginger ball which were both delish. The calming smoothie was the right ratio of almond milk, blueberries and cacao. Little pricey but worth it. Pleasant staff who were patient and keen for a chat. The concept is awesome and decor fairly funky :)
A good start. I've now tried two decaf lattes, a chai latte (both with almond milk), a ginger ball ($4), lemon slice ($6.50) and carrot cake.
The drinks were all amazing. The slices were good but lacked flavour. The ginger needed more ginger, the lemon more lemon and the carrot cake would have really benefited from a bit of cinnamon.
The staff are pleasant enough but lack the energy and enthusiasm I would associate with this kind of food. It's a growing niche market that needs people coming back and they are missing a big marketing opportunity if they don't sell their product better. Prices on their food labels would also be helpful.
