The fish was crunchy and well-battered on the outside and nicely cooked on the inside. The chips were well-seasoned and also crunchy. A good plate of fish and chips.
Went in and ordered a burger,grilled flake, fried flake and chips. The burger was delicious and fish tasted yum with olive oil,oregano and lemon. The customer service was also good. Thank-you I will be returning :)

Battered fried fish 4/5 - batter was light and crisp and fish was not over fried. Even after letting it sit out for 2 hours (I know) the batter still kept its integrity and had a bit of crisp to it (although most did get a bit soggy) but the taste was still fresh and fish itself was not dry. I think it does depend on which piece you get though as I found my friends fish was a bit tougher.
Chips (fries) 3.5/5 - a little inconsistent with the fry as some were hard while others were light and fluffy. Overall good portion and nice thick cuts, but the end bits weren't as crispy as I would like (those that are cut smaller due to curvature of potato!) Not salty so went well with the fish.
Sushi platter 3.5/5 - good variety, nice balance of rice and filling. Mayo did not overpower the rolls and overall variety of toppings were good. Again not an authentic type of roll but those for fast food/ quick eats that will satisfy your sushi roll needs, especially the tuna one! Rice was well seasoned and seaweed was not soggy.
Cheap and quick meal on lygon street. We have been to this place multiple times. I usually get the salmon with Mediterranean marinade. Hubby like the fisherman catch with fish of the day. Their prawn cutlets and calamari rings are equally good. Not too oily. Love this place and we keep going back.
My family and I decided to pop in after years of not being here and were very happy to say it is still as good as it ever was! The customer service from Kate was outstanding and not something you get much anymore, she went above and beyond to make sure we had a great dine in experience. Naturally kate has a warm and positive energy about her and I would just really like to applaud her for being so friendly with her customers. Also food was so fresh and delicious

I ordered Spicy Prawn, Spicy Tuna plus a rice paper roll. They are not bad.
I like the prawn one best because it tastes more like Japanese style.
The tuna one is cooked mince-like serving with Mayo sauce.
The rice paper is a little thick. But the stuff is good. They put avocado in it.
They serve good and hearty fish and chips. Crunchy with nicely-seasoned batter and flaky fish. Staff members were really nice and friendly. You could ask for all kinds of sauces and condiments for your food
Been here a few times for take away and there has always been something amiss when we get home. This time, five if us dined outside on a warm night amongst the busy Lygon street bustle. We had a great server that had a great personality and was able to memorize all of our starters and mains. All our meals were presented well and were enjoyed by all. Good serving sizes meant that none of us were left wanting more to eat. Standouts were the Sea Salt burger, Calamari Salad and the Atlantic Salmon. The menu is a little confusing, but Sea Salt is definitely worth a visit.
I have just started working in Carlton and was recommended to try this place - I’ve been back every week since!! Love the menu, fresh food and atmosphere.
Pretty standard modern fish and chippery that also sells sushi on the side. Prices are average for fish and chips and for what you get and quality is decent. I think their sushi and sashimi is a bit overpriced, but they do offer brown rice sushi and so on which can appeal to some people. I prefer to get my sushi and sashimi fix from cheaper places that are just as good.
They used to only be a small shop before they expanded into the adjacent lot. So there is quite a lot of indoor dining space now, though the ambience still seems slightly dingy.
Probably your best option for fish and chips in the area if you live close by.

Randomly found this place near Melbourne uni while waiting for my friends buying burgers. Bought 6 rolls, the best is the crispy chicken!!! The chicken is fried, crispy but not dry, so juicy, love it! You can take away or eat there, many people line up, but will serve you quickly. I went there on Sunday
Both the sushi and the fish and chips here are magnificent. This has been a favourite lunch spot of both myself and work colleagues for the last few years. Great service and really quick at lunch time, try the Calamari.
Hands down the best fish & chips place in town.
Great ambience and even fresher fish products such as the flounder which had the perfect garlic marinade!
Oysters were fresh as always and the grilled calamari salad was a hit.

Really friendly staff and a great atmosphere as well as a variety of different options in the menu to try! The food was decent. Nothing too special, but the portion you get suits the price! Might come back again and try something else.
Tasted good😍😍 and the staffs were very friendly. I asked for 2 takeaway boxes and a plastic bag and they didn't even charge a penny. The portion was also big, worths the price.

Fresh and tasty fish and chips. Batter is thin and crispy, not oily or soggy. Fried in vegetable oil which is great too instead of heavy animal fats. Had half a dozen oysters which were fresh, plump and delicious. Fish tacos and F&C for one were decent sizes, and the chips were perfect. Definitely hit the spot. Relaxed atmosphere on the coffee strip. Worth a revisit.
Would've been rated higher if it weren't for the girl at the register, she is totally standoffish and has no warmth or friendliness about her at all. The calamari salad was superb, calamari were tender and not overcooked, Greek salad was fresh, can't ask for more than that. I'll be back and hopefully the girl who served me will have a new attitude.
We've been coming here before and 3 years since the Carlton branch was renovated. The food is always great quality - fresh and flavoursome; the best chips in Melbourne - way above your standard fish and chip shop experience. However, what sets it apart, especially from some other places in Lygon Street, is the outstandingly polite and friendly service, as well as the upkeep - tables cleared etc. Great food and great service.
Both the fish and chips were light crispy and delicious... The potato cakes were a little disappointing, not your classic in house made, they seemed pre cooked / frozen - I could be wrong though. I always prefer calamari when the outer stringy membrane is removed, was a little tough, but the calamari flesh itself was fresh and thick and well crumbed! Dimmies fried we're A+ though!
This branch has been there for a while now and already they have had quite a few customers. They have been open for many years and I have been meaning to go there but I have not had the chance yet. Until tonight that is. On Friday nights they are really busy. They were flat out until after 7:30pm. My flathead fish of the day was really good. It came with a garden salad and for the health freak I had mine grilled with lemon sauce which was quite nice. All under $15.

If you’re a seafood lover then you’re in for a real treat at Sea Salt in Carlton. This casual eatery may look like a fish & chip shop from the outside, but don’t let that fool you. Their aim is to provide their customers with the tastiest and finest quality seafood in the most innovative ways possible.
Sea Salt is a Melbournian and Lygon Street institution and the new Winter Specials Menu, despite a few misses, provides a very enjoyable meal overall.
Head Chef Rafa Santos really elevates the restaurant above and beyond the standard fish and chippery and produces exciting food on the whole.
Sea salt must be one of the best fish and chip store I've possibly ever been to compared to hunky dory and all the other small businesses.
Fish tasted fresh, the salads were delicious and healthy.
Sea salt also sells sushi during lunch periods and they're very light and tasty providing both white rice and brown rice although I don't think they should necessarily charge extra for brown rice, that's a bit harsh.
Staff could be a bit more cheerful towards their customers.

Sea Salt Carlton, from the outside, appears to be not much more than a fish & chip shop, but when you walk inside and take a look at the menu, and the kitchen staff at work in the open kitchen, it quickly becomes apparent that there’s more here than meets the eye.
Sea Salt is just a great place for when you feel like some easy and comforting food. We loved our dishes and even though it was just fish and chips and the gyn junkie dish, these guys just nail it. We highly recommend this joint.

Fresh, full of flavour and a spacious casual restaurant. Great selection of marinated, the sweet potato fries is also very delicious being crispy on the outside and soft in the inside. They also have a great selection of drinks.

We loved tasting our way through Sea Salt Fish's menu. To start we enjoyed Sea Salt's sashimi platter. An impressive selection of raw seafood including oysters, salmon, tuna, kingfish, mackerel and roe - each wonderfully fresh and delightful to eat with the accompanying sauces and the essential soy and wasabi condiments.

The sushi doughnut craze has hit Melbourne, and Sea Salt Fish and Sushi had not just one, but five varieties to choose from straight out of the gate. Sea Salt is known for it’s top notch seafood, so with great excitement, we came to see what they could with sushi doughnuts.
Found out about this place on a vegan FB group.... Had time that day to check it out as I was curious to see what a fish and chip/ sushi place had to offer
The special was the tofu tacos as pictured, I found them light and enjoyable with good spice and flavour. My only neg is ate them to fast! Keep the vegan conversion going soon it will be Vegan/sushi 😂

A great place to eat on a 30+ degree weather. I ordered a fish meal with garden salad together with mediterranian dressing which has a great smell with garlic. I also tasted the asian dressing which is stronger in spice and very saucy. They also have sushi rolls in good sizes.
We had fish and chips and salad after the movies. The service was friendly and helpful and the food was fantastic. We really enjoyed it. I would recommend.
We had dinner at Sea Salt tonight, a very modern Fish & Chip shop! We were pleasantly surprised at how amazing the food was! Considering it is the only Fish & Chip shop surrounded by a sea of Italian restaurants. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, and the service was very quick! Sea Salt have the biggest menu we have ever seen in a Fish & Chip shop they have a huge range from every type of fish, which they offer to be cooked in many different ways and they even do sushi!!! The food was extremely fresh and very very tasty! From the Salmon, Calamari, Flat Head Tails to the Sushi, everything was delicious.
TIP: Do try the Salmon Burger- so tasty! Don't forget to order some Sushi Rolls + Lemon Pepper Calamari Salad!
Enjoy coming here for a quick meal. Fresh fish and nice variety of healthy meal options. A really nice space with friendly staff. A class above the rest when it comes to modern fish and chip shops.
Love the sushi and grilled squid! Always so fresh and tasty! I work in the area and always find myself coming back a minimum of 2 days a week... well done guys! :)
This is by far, the best flathead I've ever had. It may be pricey, but it's worth it. Lightly battered and melts in your mouth. You also get a decent serving too. I prefer flathead to whiting, as its taste and texture is better.

Lunched today at Sea Salt and was genuinely surprised at the quality, presentation and value for money of the meals (definitely not your average Fish & Chip shop). I chose their grilled Blue Grenadier & Chips for $11.20 and I seriously enjoyed a good old Aussie traditional meal including perfectly fried chips. I need Sea Salt to open a shop in my home suburb of Carnegie or somewhere close, our current fish & chip shop really needs some competition. The service provision was excellent & efficient, the décor was very modern and clean in appearance.
The Juror's Verdict: Food 5/5, Service Provision 4/5, Will I return: Yes, highly recommend, to quote Arnie Schwarzenegger, "I'll be back" and soon.

Tonight I had a fish burger which was quite nice, with a brioche bun.
This place sells sushi which is rather odd in my view, but it was busy.
The service was friendly and quick which was great as I didn't have much time.
Enjoyed a work lunch wit colleagues and most ordered the sea salt burger with chips. I ordered the soft shell crab burger with a chipotle mayonnaise which I was very happy with. The brioche like bun was a little sweet but very good. Chips were crispy and freshly cooked. A busy spot so be prepared to wait.
Delicious food, at fantastic prices. Always a favourite among uni students. The new renovations and expansion give it a lovely ambience, also awesome having the fishmonger right there as well
Popcorn chicken is tasty. Chilli Mayo it comes with is a very nice mix to the herby batter used on the pop corn chicken. They use Maryland to make this & it holds flavour well. On the expensive side at $9 a bowl but a nice starter all the same.
The gummy flake was very very nice. Lightly battered & cooked perfectly. The fish was fresh & sweet. Yum!
Strange combination of fish and chips and sushi. Sushi was OK but may have been sitting around for some time and didn't taste fresh. Stick to the fish and chips and you will be OK.
Wow! The recently completed renovations on this place are amazing - it's so much bigger than it used to be and has a beautifully decorated interior with plenty of seating. The menu changes are also awesome with the addition of a la carte sushi which was really delicious. I liked Seasalt before, but now it has definitely upped its game. The crispy salmon dish was a definite favourite but everything tasted fresh. A definite upgrade for this restaurant.
The best sushi place in Melbourne, great food, good location and amazing staff. They were late with the potato chips and offered us a free wine even when we insisted that we pay.

This restaurant is seriously the best. I have been coming her for years and it never disappoints. I fail to understand why there are bad reviews. The sushi is delicious and very filling due to its size being larger than the regular sushi. The fish and chips packs I have purchased have always been delicious. The service is excellent.
But it was the marinara sushi pizza that won my taste buds over and over again with each bite. Crispy nori sheets topped with sushi rice, fresh seafood, a flavoursome tomato paste and oozy melted cheese. It's a clever concoction of pizza meets sushi meets nachos. Salivating? I am.

Great food!!. Best fish I've had in a long time. I ordered the gym junkie with a grilled prawn skewer and it tasted so fresh and juicy I wanted to eat more! Considering they were busy Friday lunch time the food came out quickly and it was not very oily unlike other places. I was very impressed. I will definitely be going back.

I have been coming here for years for the burgers - you can't go wrong with grilled salmon, fresh salad and a good bread roll, served with a side of chops for under ten dollars! Sure, the seating is fairly limited, and it's on a busy part of Lygon St, but the staff are friendly, the service quick, and the food is definitely good value. Highly recommended as a pre-cinema meal if you're going to the Nova too.

Consistently Good. This is the place where I go whenever I don't really know where to go or what to have. Their food is pretty consistent. Mostly I have the fisherman's basket and they're generally good and fresh. Better bet than Tank Fish & Chips across the road, and not as expensive.

(fish portions are quite small), the fish was fresh and the service speedy and pleasant. The burger bun was light and crisp, fish was cooked well, and accompanying sauces were yummy!! The fisherman's basket does not leave you feeling like you've just ingested a tonne of bricks (it doesn't have all the crumb and batter often found at so many other places). We'll be back!

Finally! Decent fish n chips!. Have been hunting for decent fish and chips in Melbourne's inner north all year now..we have a winner! The fish was fresh (we had fried whiting and flake), the batter light and crispy, the chips were tasty and not too thick, not too thin. This was good, clean fish and chips. Not too fancy and not too old school greasy. Stole a bite of my boyfriend's crumbed calamari and wished I'd ordered myself some! Perfectly crumbed and just the right amount of stretch. We will definitely eat here again next time Melbourne puts on a balmy Spring night!
