Lived in London a long time and loved my curries. Hard to find a decent quality authentic Indian in Melbourne with a few notable exceptions. This is one of them. Highly recommended.
This is one of the best Indian restaurant/ take away I have ever used,
The food is great and tastes perfect,
They deliver and if you are in Melbourne and love your Indian food you can't give this one a miss.
Eat in or take away always great.
My favourite thali place in this city. The place is a bit worn down but, the food is so tasty and the service is so warm, you will fOrget to look around. The butter chicken and the cheese, spinach and garlic naan is amazing.
Ordered take away 2 main one Entree and rotti... cheekily asked for ONE FREE Papadam with online order.... Nope, no free papadam.... Food was 3.5/5
This place has ruined Indian food everywhere else for me. I cannot stop bringing family and friends here! They have the best tasting curries, so flavourful and their briyani and naan is spot on. Service if you dine in is a bit lacking but it's well worth the wait. If you live around South Melbourne you'll never order your Indian from anywhere else I can promise you. I love you guys
We have been going to My Masala for years now, because of the great food. But last week a notice appeared on the window "No BYO alcohol permitted". Called in two days ago for dinner and was advised that beer/wine was no longer available for sale either. Putting two and two together, it appears that My Masala is now dry. Real shame. End of an era.
Best Naan bread I have EVER tasted. Amazing prices and lovely service. Can't wait to try the rest of the food. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for fantastic Indian food.
Amazing Indian food! So happy it's close to where we live! The flavours so authentic and moorish.. like nothing I've tasted in Melbourne. The Naan cooked perfectly, firm enough to scoop up the curry but soft in the middle it melts in your mouth. Just thinking of the food is making my mouth water. Best food for a winter warm meal!
My masala is a great restaurant. All menu is totally delicious!!
This restaurant also do home delivery, so sometime I order delivery too.
My favorite is butter chicken and garlic naan.
I think this is the best Indian restaurant in Melbourne!
First and best Indian restaurant in Melbourne I ever had in my life. Delicious food with awesome presentation really like the food.i will suggest everyone to try it . Nice siting arrangements with friendly environment with best quality of food 😊cant stop my self for next time thanks👌
Dining at My Masala was a bit of a wild experience. One that starts off unsure, then confused, then mind-blowing fantastic. The store has a bit of a crowd that attracted me in as it wasn’t my original lunch choice for the day. Upon entering there’s a immediate sense of confusion as it feels like you’ve walked into someone’s living room. At My Masala the restaurant feels ex-residence with two dining areas and the kitchen and payment till at the back. It’s all a little wacky and no doubt could throw off someone on their first visit, particularly expedited by the lack of menu and off service.
My masala have the best delivery man on the planet. Yes they have delivered late, but he always arrives with the best apologies, the best food and extra dip! The curry is absolutely delicious and I have not ordered a different curry since eating here. The food is very good, Poppadums could be better in all honesty but the garlic naan is unreal!!!!!!i also love their chilli paneer. Get involved, Harry and the rest of 4411
We have been ordering delivery on the weakly basis. Its like foods from own home kitchen.. also, the staff are so friendly, especially Sourab.. making our orders easy & nice... Highly recommended....Mei.. Docklands
So good! Delicious food and great service. This is our new local. Dined in and was very impressed. Two curries, rice and one naan was enough for two hungry people and was also well priced ($35). Lots of parking around too if you are driving..
Very friendly staff. Food is delicious. Lots of flavour and the gravy is to die for. Food is reasonably priced with generous serves. Highly recommended.
Every Sunday its curry night! My masala are fantastic. I'm from England and it's taken my 3 years to find a decent curry. Absolutely love this place. Sam is the delivery man and his an absolute legend too. Fantastic proper Indian
Tucked in a corner of South Melbourne, is an unassuming small cozy restaurant. The restaurant may be more suited for takeaway but it has some tables available for seating. The food is fresh and full of flavour and the servings are generous. The service is slow but well paced. The naan was perfect and the long grained rice was very well cooked. I suggest ordering the mango lassi which went very well with the meal. A very enjoyable place for an indian meal and reasonably priced. Free cucumber raita was really a nice touch.
What this place does best is (and at a very good price):
- The naan; Got a friend who don't like indian curries, but love naans and he loved this place!! (He got the butter chicken though)
- The curries
Lunch thali at the time of writing is $6.50 (vegetarian) and $8.50 (non-vegetarian). Either option comes with 2 curries, moong dal, raita, salad, 1 naan (cut to 4) and rice. You can opt for naan only or rice only if you choose to. Generally for lunch you don't have options of vegetarian curries, but non-vegetarian curries comes with 1 lamb curry and an option of butter chicken or spicy chicken curry. Like other good indian places in Melbourne serving lunch thali nowadays, they play around with the raita and moong dal from time to time which makes it refreshing.
Standard fare mango lassi and samosa. Will look into getting their chaat offerings next time.
I can honestly say this is the best take away we have had since we came to Australia last year! The chicken was so tender and the flavours just delicious! We've just ordered again tonight!
Have had food delivered from here many times. They are one of our favorite restaurants .The food is always delicious with yummy luscious flavorful curries, soft tasty naans & awesome biryanis & rice dishes.Portion size is very generous & service is always very friendly & excellent.Would definitely recommend this place.
Orders from them and was quite impressed. Hey delivered the food on time and were very helpful when recommending dishes. The food arrived hot and it was excellent. I highly recommend their lamb Biryani. Will definitely order again.
Yum yum yum.. fantastic service good food :)
Delivered food after dine in previous day was fallacious 😊
Worth a try !! Good indian food, also do try thier rasmalai 😙
Amazing food , and reasonably priced. Consistent quality of food and above all great customer service, which definitely gives a restaurant an edge over the others! Have nothing to complain, as we get take away every other week from here! - Saurabh
Favourite Indian in the South Melbourne / Southbank region. Great food, lovely service. Beef Vindaloo made with quality beef and good level of heat. Highly recommend.
The best Indian I've had in Melbourne and amazing value. Quality meats used and the staff are very friendly. Really great for both dine in and takeaway.
After our visit to India, we cannot stop going to Indian restaurants and comparing! This is one of the places we are so glad we found! the lamb chops are a must! as well as the tandoori mushrooms. So much flavour, and the quantity is amazing! for mains we tried the goat curry as well as the eggplant masala and they surely didnt disappoint.
Our favourite place for Indian take away, the people are always friendly and remember us which is nice. The butter chicken and bhajis are great, however everything we have tried has been delicious.
I have done take away heaps of times. Great service and tasty Indian food. Reasonable price and good size portions. Not too spicy not to sweet I reckon it's just right
Great food and friendly service! I would recommend that any tourists come here if they are looking for dinner. Best value for money in Southbank
Ideally one look at the restaurant from outside and you would start contemplating your choice already.. But as we took the risk to try it, we were pleasantly surprised!
Excellent warm service...
Homely ambience (for my liking)..
Lip smacking food.. Right from the dips (chutni) to the main course..
Starting with the 'til ke kebab' along with the lovely tangy dip to the yummy 'murg Shahi kurma' with garlic Naan and rice..
A definite gourmet experience to complete a Saturday eve...
One of the best Indian places in town. Exceptionally great food and even better service. $6.50 for a veg thali and $8.50 for a non veg thali is an absolute value for money. Ideal for lunch. Staff is extremely friendly and very nicely decorated. I'd recommend everyone to at least try once. you will find their food addictive.
Amazing place to get your Indian taste buds tingling. Great lunch package starting from $6.50. Would definately recommend. I bet you can't finish complete lunch.
The best indian thali ever have. starting from $6.50 .taste is amazing loved it . hospitality is very good .the attendent is very helpful explaning about the specials they offered every day in the thali . Definitely come back.
Thanks my masala.
Amazing food, good portion sizes, huge flavours & great value for money!
Definitely my go to for a good butter chicken
Service is elite.
Absolutely loved their chickpea salad and tandoori chicken! They have a great range of vegetarian options too. I went to My masala for my friend's birthday party. Staff members there were very friendly and accommodating. 5 out of 5! My favorite Indian restaurant in whole Melbourne!
Too good food!! After having food I felt at home away from home. Delicious, lip smacking, scrumptious...must try. A paradise of Indian food.
This choice came out of my mood to explore indian cuisine, outside CBD, and I loved it!
The curries are thick, well cooked, and full of flavour, and the breads are soft. They are a bit slow in getting the order from you, but get it quickly once you have given it!
Food - 5/5
Ambience - 3.5/5
Service - 4/5
The additional benefits include reasonable cost and great hospitality!
I'm not sure about eating in (although it looks like a nice restaurant)but I can't speak highly enough of the takeaway. I suggest placing a phone order a it can get busy some nights.
My Masala Indian Cuisine..!!
The best veg and non veg food you can get in whole Melbourne I have tried more than 25 Indian Resturant but this the best..!!
A request from my side to the owner pls make your Thali system daily 😝😝😝😝
I want all the Indian and all the people from the globe to come taste..!!
The best place for North Indian Thali. The best combination I have ever had is Dhal Maharani, Saag Panner, Garlic Naan and Jeera rice. Unbeatable taste. Cheers My Masala. Not to miss the Thali. Great food at a reasonable price.
All the credit goes to the positive reviews on Zomato, thanks @Danny for your referral for making us dine at My Masala. The food was just too good . The Paneer tikka was very tasteful with a twist , the curry we ordered was kind of malai kofta don't remember the exact name on the menu and the breads we truly enjoyed eating where onion kulcha, lacha paratha and Roti. Each bread was cooked to perfection. Without any doubt it was the best kulcha and Roti that I have ever had in Melbourne. We paid around 42$ gor everything we ate. Will keep visiting them whenever err feel like having Indian food.
A must try place, don't go on the picture you get from outside , step in and I promise it looks and feel much better once you step in the restaurant and the food is awesome.
Visited last week for their lunch specials (8.50 for non veg thali). Very good value for money. The food was tasty too.
Butter chicken was top notch, the lamb in the thali was not that great (curry very thin) but overall it was good. My colleagues ordered few other items from the menu and liked it.
Joining the chorus of fans of My Masala. Found this place on Zomato and came here because of the good reviews. Food is fabulous, tasty and fresh. The hype is real folks, do yourself a flavour and get here!
The decor is neat but nothing exciting. But that isn't why we go there. The food is lovely and great value, with a bill of $90 for 4 adults. There is quite a good variety of dishes to choose from. The staff were very helpful when we placed our order, and speedy in their service. The downside to their generous portions though is that we ate too much - and still didn't knock off all the food! Particularly liked the samosa for starters, and the boned chicken in spinach puree and the lamb rogan josh.
By far the best Indian we've had!! Delicious!! Delicious!! Delicious!! Friendly staff and a hidden local treasure. Great value for money!! This little gem gets a visit from my partner and I weekly.
This is a great Indian option in South Melbourne, whether it is take away, delivery or dine-in. I have been here couple of times to eat at the restaurant and also order takeaway. Slowly making my way through the menu. So far the stand outs are the Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Chettinad, Lamb Biryani, Samosas and EggPlant. Their naans are also spot on. Sometimes I find some dishes a little too bland for my liking as I prefer punchy authentic Indian food! But in saying that, it satisfies my Indian cravings!
Excellent food, one of the best I've had in Melbourne and portions are brilliant for the price we paid. Service was great too, they really looked after us. Will be back for sure
Hands down, my best indian food eatery in melbourne. I dont mind travelling from Dandy to south melbourne evry time my Mrs. crave for indian food. The restaurant place may be small bu the chefs and front staffs have big hearts and great hospitality. I have been to this restaurant plenty of times and have always been treated with some great sumptuous indian food. Lamb racks for entré are to die for. So tender and perfectly cooked. Malabar prawns, chicken tikka masala and saag panner are my favorite. What also amazes me is the taste of mint chutney with the complementary papadam. Nothing better than it to tickle your culinary taste buds. Nothing is too much of trouble for people working here. Highly recommended for take aways home deliveries. Kudos to Chef!!!
One of the best Indian meals ever tasted! Wide selection of delicious Northern and Southern Indian dishes to choose from with warm and friendly service. Highly recommend, you won't be disappointed!
Hungry Hungry Hippos
+4.5
Beautiful food and great prices!. LOVED the takeaway we had from here recently, super cheap as well! Definite new favourite.
What a lovely little gem nestled amongst a commercial district on the outskirts of South Melbourne, this wonderful inviting family restaurant has wonderful friendly service and the food is full of authentic Indian flavours!
Do yourself a favour and give this restaurant a go you won't be disappointed! Tell them Danny sent you!
Sensational food!. Wow what a flavour sensation!! We shared the mushroom and spinach fish entree and it was truly mouth watering!
The mains were great but I can't help thinking about that fish and finding out how they make those mushrooms...surely they just soak them in something then cook them in a Tandoori oven...
Will have to find out next time I go...which will be soon!
Steve
Delicious food, great attitude, good service. One of the best Indian food you can have in Melbourne.
Recommended.
Best Indian food we have in ages!. Our friend recommended this restaurant. Service was superb, food was exceptional and authentic! Will definitely go back : )
So tasty every time!! Quick delivery. The most authentic Indian food in melbourne. Highly recommend it.
Yum!. If u love coriander & authentic indian you found the right place. This place tastes much nicer then it looks! Located in an old house converted too shop it has a sence of uniqueness. Yum yum yum!
Fantastic. We dined for our second time last night. fabulous, tasty food. each dish was brilliant. loved the tandoori chicken, a lot of flavour and not dry as I often find can happen. very reasonable prices especially considering the quality. lovely staff. friendly, smiley, accommodating. chef came to chat and check we were happy with his meals. will definitely continue to return.
Amazing food!!. I have been to this restaurant many many times, and I love it every time. I have tried a few entrees (including the samosa, lamb chop, chicken, tandoori mushrooms) and they are all so tasty and flavourful!! Main dishes are as amazing - and best of all they come in huge portions! I came with two of my siblings - ordered 2 entrees and 3 mains with naan bread and some rice, and we were left with full tummies!! We couldn't finish it all so had to take-away some of our food too! It really is the best Indian in Melbourne for sure!
Delicious fragrant food. I'll be coming back!
After many frustrated attempts, I finally found a great Indian food delivery restaurant! Thick tasty curry, generous portions, very well packed - will definitely order again.
The food tastes better than the place looks. My Masala is located on a daggy stretch of City Road. It's the kind of place I'd usually pass by, assuming it was the kind of cheap curry shack that mainly appeals to late-night drunks. The rapt reviews convinced me to give it a go. I'm glad I did! The decor inside is modern and tasteful, the front-of-house staff when I was there were polite, and the food was fantastic.
I'm no expert in Indian cuisine, but I know what the standards like lamb rogan josh, tandoori chicken, etc. are. So when I see menu items that I don't recognise, I want to try them, because I love novelty. My Masala offers a number of curries that were new to me, such as something called Chicken Jhalfrezi. It had nice-sized chunks of thigh meat in a spicy-hot red sauce that was like a mash-up of butter chicken and vindaloo curry. The cauliflower, broccoli, baby carrots, onions and capsicum in it were fresh and cooked al dente.
The restaurant makes a variation called masala naan, which has sultanas and a spread inside the bread that's like a coconut version of the almond paste you get in almond croissants. I've never had a sweet naan before, just the savoury types, and I loved it. My dinner was even sweeter because My Masala was giving a 20% discount for takeaway orders when you paid cash. I got a filling feast (including long-grain rice, which only costs $2 here, less than many other places) for $16! I don't often go back to a restaurant, even when it's good, because I always want to try something different. But My Masala is so nice that I'm going to return for some of their other uncommon South Indian dishes, especially with that 20% off the docket deal.
Fantastic!. MY husband and I, after reading about this little gem, thought we would try it last night. It has the best Indian food we have ever had. Wait staff great. Definitely our new favorite. A must try! They are busy with their take away too.
Best Indian I've had in Melbourne!. Last night we ordered paneer butter masala, beef madras and some garlic naan for take away and it was all beautiful. So much flavour and fantastic use of spices. Generous portions and they weren't holding back on the ingredients (lots of paneer and lots of beef). The naan were fresh and soft. The free papadums were a nice touch (and not stale!). We travelled almost an hour all up to try their food and it was definitely worth it. We'll be back!
Best Indian. Love this place. food is delicious, portions generous and staff lovely. Not going to lie - I really only order butter chicken but it's the best. Very tasty and creamy. Good naan and love the complimentary pappadams :)
LOVE IT. I love this place. Beautiful food & staff were very friendly. Best Indian I've been to in Melbourne!
Amazing food and amazing service!!! Although not very conveniently located for tourists like us but will surely come back again for this food....
Best Indian in Melbourne. This would have to be the best Indian I have had in Melbourne , they have only been open since May but they have a great future if they stay doing the same food
I travel to India for work so I no good Indian food and My Masala is just like being in India
The staff are great and the service is fantastic, the food was all fantastic as well, everybody loved it in my party the only complaint was the wine list, they really need to do a couple of good whites and reds and then no body would be able to complain
Great job to the chef ,owners and staff well done
Delicious food and excellent value an service!! Highly recommend and hope this restaurant /takeaway venue is here to stay - some of the best Indian food I've ever eaten :) started with the kurkuri onion bhaji which was complimented by tamarind dipping sauce and the spicy mint yoghurt (yummmmm!) and followed by Murg Saagwala and Methi Murg with rice and garlic naan. Both dishes were generous portions and both hugely flavoursome with very tender chicken. Honestly cannot speak higher of the flavours and value for money, not to mention the beautifully friendly waitress and peaceful small setting. Thumbs up all round!!!
Truly brilliant! The best curry i have had in Australia, hands down! Everything was very wholesome and flavourful...
Oh.my.god. THE best curry in Melbourne! Lamb Saagwala was amazing! Yum!!
Eating it right now, and I'll def. be going back for more take outs. And mayb even to dine it. Local south melbournites, give this place a try
Delicious. So delicious. Different flavour than expected but I prefer this style it was so good. Super impressed, best Indian I have had in Melbourne as yet.
Just ordered a home delivery. Very impressed with speed, quantity, taste and quality. Will definitely order again!
I have been to many Indian restaurants in Melbourne and also been to India to taste the real Indian food. By far this place is the best Indian restaurant! Everything we had was amazing and my favorite were lamb cutlet and mushroom served in spices. Curries were also delicious. I will go there again for sure!!
Best British style Indian curry!. For the last 2 years I have been on a mission to find a decent British Style Indian curry. With My Masala, I have just found that place! I had the chicken kadai (hot) which comes with a large serving of chicken pieces and a delicious mouth tingling sauce. My wife ordered the prawn jhinga masala nizam, bit of a mouthful to pronounce, but generous serving of king prawns and a sauce that resembled dopiaza. Worth noting the raita dip too, it is the best we've ever had. Like any good curry it will stain your plates! Pure Dead brilliant!
I interrupted my meal halfway just to write this rave review. As a serious fan of Indian food I was instantly surprised when I walked in and saw the menu
The prices and food selection had me just knowing it was gonna be a good dinner
And...
It was bloody fantastic. Authentic flavours large servings and tacky decor haha
But seriosuly it was one of the best feeds I've had all month; and hardly dented my wallet
Believe it has had a change in management as the staff and menu has slightly changed.
Still very good indian cuisine. Dine in or take away available.
Great food, especially the lamb. This place probably has the best tasting naan in Melbourne! Very friendly and fast service as well.
The best Indian food I have had in Melbourne! Period. Coming from a guy who cooks Indian food and has had it all his life. The prices are quite reasonable and the quantity is decent too! Nice location and cozy home-like ambience.
They say you can never judge a book by its cover..... well this little restaurant is in that boat. It seats about 15, has dated furnishings and looks a little run down BUT the food is beyond exceptional.
Amazing flavours, incredible service and it is priced very, very well. Absolutely worth a visit.
