This is one of my favorite dishes in Vietnam. You can never go wrong with bbq pork rib, shredded pork skin and eggs served with broken rice and fish sauce. The restaurant added very nice steamed egg cake. In general everything is okay. Serving time is not too slow.
Definitely a great go-to spot in the cbd for a quick lunch or dinner!
Ambience: Right at the bustling Swanston st, this place isn't too small or big. The ambience was just average, nothing fancy.
Service: The staffs are generally friendly and the food came out pretty quick.
Food: I've been here couple of times and the first time I had their medium pho it didn't fill me up, but just recently it definitely did! They were definitely not stingy with the beef! It was definitely one of the best phos in the cbd! I've tried their broken rice which was tasty as well, but their pad thai not so much. I also loved that they provide a thermos with hot tea on the table.
Price: Their price I'll say is pretty decent for the size and taste of their food, and the pho is definitely worth it! ($12 for medium size)
Favorites: Combination Beef Pho (tendon, beef slices, beef balls, beef ribs)
Nopes: Singapore fried noodle
Photo: Beef Pho

What a little gem although busy the staff are amazing. Quickly seat you and the food comes out fast. Authentic Vietnamese their pho broth is amazing
I just ate the most amazing Thai prawn salad here. Hot sour and crunchy.
Chicken Satay skewers - ok. Wouldn’t order them again.
But that salad! 😱
Such yummy authentic vietnamese food. Friendly staff, food came quickly and generous servings. Three colored drink was a bit on the sweet side. But overall, we were very impressed.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Like the name suggests, the restaurant is best in its noodles, especially the Pho: the broth is very close to the traditional Pho back in Vietnam
Stumbled upon this place while looking for a different place. I was hungry and decided to give it a try. It did not disappoint. The soup base for the pho was on point. If you need pho this is the place to be.
The pho broth is amazing with heaps of flavour, generous amount of noodles and meat. The vermicelli with tofu and spring rolls are also fab. Tofu has heaps of flavour, slightly oily, but still a great dish. Good prices, make sure you've got cash.
The pho and soup dishes are probably the best on Swanston St. Did not feel the need to add in oyster sauce or sirracha. Food is relatively cheap however they do not accept card.
Ordered the Bun Thit Buong. Generous portions of grilled pork, vegetables and vermicelli. It's great value for money and the food is nice. It's not extraordinary but it's good enough to satisfy your Vietnamese craving.
I've been here for almost 5 years and taste is always same GREAT!!! They never disappoint me. thumb up ;-) Most of menu is awesome but I recommend number 45, Fish with lemongrass chili sauce ! Worth to try..!!
Love this place. Quick service, excellent food, great atmosphere. I always get the beef pad thai!!! Thi is my favorite place to dine in the city. Great prices too
The price is quite good, the first time I went I got a Chicken Laksa (With noodles) and fell in love and I don't usually like asian cuisine. The second time I was craving it and went back and told them what I got and even showed them a picture and he understood however I got given a "Viet Noodle Soup with beef and pork" Instead, which as confusing cause it was no where near a Laksa.
Even though they did screw up my order (And the noodle soup was not my cup of tea) I will go back for the Laksa, my friends got the noodles (Chicken) stir fry and Chicken curry & Jasmine rice which looked amazing.
You just have to be more clear what you want next time and pray it's not too busy for them to screw up
Walked past here soo many times and never tried till now. Great prices and the staff where friendly. Cash only so I got some money out at McDonald's on the corner. High turn over in and out. Very busy. Would come here again for sure, and it's central! Great!
Good food , chicken pho was well made and served on time. It's a cash only place so have some in pocket
One can have a meal in around 10-12$.
I always enjoy having a cheap and nice meal at this place. I think their noodle dishes are quite nice and flavoursome. Couldn't fault it but only enjoy it! :)
First time here for lunch in a group of five and the restaurant is full and very busy with tables set very close to each other. Service is very efficient, although language was an issue with our waiter, but friendly. The menu is typically quite large and can be confusing to decide unless you have a favourite. We order our food, got our drinks and soon after our meals arrived – perfect timing for a quick lunch. My meal looked nothing like what I ordered (there was a photo of it on the menu) but it was fresh, flavoursome and I enjoyed it without much complaint apart from the fact that it was a touch on the small size. The others enjoyed their meals too with a couple observation regarding the small size of their meal. Summing up, for a quick traditional Vietnamese meal without fuss or concern for the surroundings and at 10-12 dollars a meal you can’t really go wrong here.
My new favourite discovery – Thursday night shopping, drinks and dinner – Melbourne CBD we love you! Hour of power shop and a cocktail is time well spent but there is no way we will be cooking by the time we get home so we wander near the tram stops and check out the many restaurants at the top of Swanston and look for the best looking one, with plenty of people in, looking happy and have a spare table for two. The Vietnam Noodle House is a no frills, cash only, thermos on the table with a tray full of chilli condiments, kind of joint. The menu is big, the service is easy going and friendly and surveying the other tables as we came in they look like big portions of delicious Vietnamese favourites, plenty of big, steaming bowls of pho and noodles being shovelled into the faces!!
If you read many of my reviews, you will have easily picked up on the fact that I love to eat spicy food and that Indian and Vietnamese are my top two cuisines. I have lived in India and still visit on a regular basis, but I am yet to visit Vietnam - I am rectifying that this year. So my reviews on Viet places are only based on what I have so far eaten here in Australia.
We are incredibly lucky up in Brisbane to have a large and vibrant Viet community and even luckier that I happen to live very close to what I think is the best viet dining area in Brisbane, and quite possibly Australia (although I guess Sydney may give it a run for it's money). Anyway I digress. We eat viet a lot - it was once or twice a week a few years back, but we have dropped back to probably once a fortnight. There are a couple of dishes that I base my like or dislike of a place on and of course one of the main one's is Pho. Oh my I do love pho tai - big time. My favourite place in Brisbane does it amazingly ... truly delicious ... and it has spoiled me (god I hope I love pho as much once I get to vietnam or I will be heartbroken lol).
Anyway on my annual girlie weekend in Melbourne a few weeks back, we were wandering back down Swanston Street after seeing a movie and whilst my dining companion isn't much of a viet eater, I convinced her that we needed to try one of the half dozen viet places we were passing. We ended up here and it was a great stop off. Firstly the place was bustling and it was almost a tetris challenge to get to our table in the window, but we managed. Service was quick with our order placed in good time. We decided to share some spring rolls to start with and they were great - nothing out of the ordinary, but fresh and delicious - what's not to like.
For mains she went with a glass noodle fried chicken soup, which she said was pretty good. There was no way I was going past my pho tai and the one that I was served was really good. With a bit of fresh chilli added and a squeeze of lime I was slurping up that bowl and smacking my lips. Plenty of tender perfectly sliced beef and more than enough rice noodles - and for $10. I mean, sorry for anyone who thinks that isn't value for money, because I vehemently disagree. It was a hearty and filling bowl, it tasted damned good and whilst I know you can get it for a buck a bowl in Vietnam - we aren't in Vietnam - we are in Melbourne!!!
Anyway with a move south next year, this place will be seeing me again on a very regular basis.
Great Pho. This place serves up great pho. A little more slice beef would be fantastic but top broth
Couldn’t have been more surprised to walk in on the very well fitted-out dining hall (including booths down the sides of the room), absolutely filled to the brim with customers. We had to eat upstairs, which was much quieter, foregoing most of the atmosphere, but it was very neat and looked very presentable (which you understand isn’t really what we’re there for, it’s just a bonus I guess) but most of all, clean. With a capital C.
For $12, I ordered the Prawns wrapped in Pork Belly. This consisted of 6 prawns wrapped in juicy pork belly served in a big bowl of vermicelli noodles. You can order rice if you want but you must request which one you want. There was fresh mint, bean sprouts, lettuce and carrots mixed in with the noodles. Fried shallots and chopped peanuts were sprinkled generously over this mouth watering dish! It was such a great choice for a balmy Melbourne evening because it was light enough to consume but still substantially filling because of the huge serve. The restaurant is busy, noisy and little hard to get the attention of the waiters at times but it was well worth because of the prices. Return visit: Med - High because Summer is coming and I'd rather
The food here was yummy and tasty. Service was a bit slow, but the dishes were nice. Not sure if I would come back but worth a try.
Love this restaurant. I ate here last night, customer service was great even though one person in my group was allergic to nuts and eggs. We asked whether it was difficult to cater for allergies and the young guy said it's very easy and they looked after us very well. It's fairly noisy and fast paced but if you want excellent cheap pho and four colour drinks then it's the place to go. I actually find the pho more flavoursome than what's available in Vietnam! We were there for an hour and a half, it was moderately crowded and we were not pressured to leave after eating.
Fresh and tasty!. Really loved the Pho here, the broth is very flavoursome. My favourite is the standard raw beef, you cant go wrong. I have tried the prawn spring rolls and they are too very crunchy and tasty. Will be visiting again Pho sure!
Reliable and great value. Great, easy, quick Vietnamese lunch option in the CBD. Consistent in both quality and service, which is not overly attentive but adequate for the price and turnover of the restaurant. Noodle soups are well balanced, along with lip-smackingly tasty rice dishes and fresh vermicelli dishes. If tossing up between food from a Roll'd franchise or Melbourne Vietnam Noodle House, choose the latter as dishes are more generously sized and there is greater variety and authenticity.
Our local. I love going to this restaurant. The food is always cheap, tasty and prepared quickly. The staff are always friendly and smiley. There is a great, bustling atmosphere with awesome prawn spring rolls and juices! I would recommend.
A++ Two Thumbs Up!. I've been going to Melbourne Vietnam Noodle House for almost 10 years and really like it, they have a massive selection of dishes with everything from soups to dumplings to grilled BBQ chicken, the food comes out super quick, they have free piping hot tea in thermoses on each table, it has a nice ambience and atmosphere and is very well priced. I honestly don't have a bad thing to say about this place which is why I keep going back.
And to the reviewer on here who said their waiter took their order on his "phone", if you had looked closely you would have realised they use PDAs/small tablets to take orders, they're not phones. And what sort of service were you expecting at a casual dining restaurant in the city where all the meals are all $10.00 or less?
-----22 Jul, 2013-----
I've been going here for years! Love the ambience, its hustle and bustle vibe, the large range of dishes and how affordable it is. Always lots of staff to take your order on PDAs. Dishes are always out to your table within minutes. Oh and they have free PIPING HOT tea on every table.
This place is awesome. Went here on a total whim and wasn't really expecting much, but the food was amazing! A generous serve, delicious food and sooo cheap. The cheapest Asian meal I've had in Melbourne CBd yet I think and food came out super quick. Impressive, consodering it was a busy friday night. They were also good at catering for gluten free. Highly recommend the pad Thai, chicken skewers and rice paper rolls
Quick and cheap. This is one of our regular city eating spots when we're after something quick and cheap. It's not the kind of place to go for a relaxing meal out with a group - the restaurant is buzzing with activity as waiters efficiently seat and serve people. And if you get a seat near the counter it can be very loud with the blender on the counter used quite frequently. But if you just want to fill up and don't have a lot of time, then this is a great place to go. My partner and I regularly eat here for under $20 in total. My favourite dish is the beef in betel leaves and spring rolls with rice vermicelli. Sometimes the spring rolls are a bit cold, but I'm not entirely sure if this is how they're supposed to be served or not! They still taste good. My partner really likes the lemongrass fish.
MelbourneHeart. Excellent Pho with beef brisket
Good overall. I thought the food was good, but nothing extraordinary. A decently cheap place for a casual meal, wouldn't go out of my way to visit it though. Dong Ba in Footscray definitely has better pho in my opinion!
Went there a few times because the food was decent and okay priced. Stopped going after their service became very low.
OK Value. Only had a quick meal here but it was tasty, fresh and substantial. Busy place as they all are in this strip.
It's one of my favorites. I go to the Melbourne Vietnam Noodle House alot. The service is quick and the meals are cheap. Sometimes when they are busy they may accidentaly go to give you the incorrect meal. I haven't really had a bad meal there but sometimes the quality of the food can vary depending on who is cooking.
Best pho in Melbourne whilst I've lived here for 5 years. If you have a larger group ask to be placed upstairs which is more nice and quieter.
Love this place. Quick, cheap and delicious.
Great pho for the cbd, very clean, fresh and fast!
Try the spicy beef pho, it's amazing :)
Third time unwillingly came back to this restaurant just to find a cockcroach's leg in my food. Whats more, the owner and staff didnt even say sorry. We left our food hardly eaten and didnt pay. When returned right after that for our forgotten mobile phone the owner was unwilling to return the phone but luckily the customer next to us at the time noticed the waiter took it away from our table so the owner had to return it with an angry face.
One of the best Bun Bo Hue I've had in a while. Sunday at 12pm wasn't too busy. Quick service with a smile. Good atmosphere. Definitely on my "to return to" list.
Bun Bo Hue had a good clear soup with a solid flavor. Noodles were a good texture, and a nice serving of meat.
Very tasty Seafood Tom Yum, but prawns a bit over cooked. Great fresh bean sprouts.
Great food, quick service, reasonably priced. Would come here again.
Authentic Vietnamese food. Prices are okay and they are changing their menu when I visited, so not a lot of choices.
The best Pho in the city. The broth actually tastes like it had been brewing for over 20hours or however long is needed to create that authentic flavour.
Ive been coming here almost weekly (and sometimes daily) and have always been acknowleded with a smile.
Would love to see them being back sweet and sour chicken (not usually my fave but the way they make it it is to Die for!).
Prompt service and friendly staff.
Everyone I have introduced this place to have gone back!
nice atmosphere. dropped in on a Thursday night with the 3 kids. Satay chicken with rice was a safe one for the kids. Large plate of special fried rice and a large noodle soup for me. washed down with beer and softies for the kids. Out of there for $70 not bad
