Great food and wine selection.
The meatballs and calamari are amazing. Marty was amazing at selecting wine for us. Can’t wait to come back
Fantastic wine selection. Cute little courtyard and yummy snacks. It’s a warm afternoon wine and chill spot!
I went there to catch up with friends.
I liked the ambient lights, the cool decor.
I ordered a very boutique French red wine, very complex. I loved the experience!

Really cute venue and cool backyard to drink wine. The drink choices are great and I loved the service. The food however was really disappointing and expensive. I had the salmon and my husband had the lamb. Whilst both dishes were tasting, they were tiny and expensive. Come here for a drink but pass on the food.
Fabulous hidden wine bar! Great courtyard. Staff know a lot about the wine & recommend. Fabulous cheese board with pickles & bread. Would definitely recommend. I’ll be back!
South Press is the coolest wine bar in Melbourne. The atmosphere is fun and the wine and food top class. Staff were super friendly. Definitely coming back here and HIGHLY recommended.
Best charcuterie this side of the yarra and a wine list that has constantly impressed. Have had many a sunny afternoon in the courtyard. 👍
Love this place! Can always find a delicious wine, love the food, and the staff are always lovely. One of our favourite places to hang out!!

Great, quirky little bar in a very unassuming park of Toorak Road. The complimentary corn is off the chain. Wine suggestions are given easily, and they're happy to let guests try a couple of recommended wines before making a decision. I normally drink pinot noir, but the suggestion to try something a tad heavier was great and I enjoyed my red. The meatballs are really great, and are ridiculously indulgent. They could do with being slightly less cooked to make them a perfect dish. My friend and I came on a Monday night, and the place was full. Great to see this area finally having some life breathed into it.
SPECTACULAR courtyard great for afternoon drinks. (Heaters on outside in the colder months). Inside boasts a great warm atmosphere too with dim lighting and comfortable seating.
Knowledgeable down to earth staff.
Extensive wine selection and a good variety of food to match.
Whether it’s for a casual midweek drink or a fun start a weekend night out SP is definitely worth checking out.
Located on Toorak road super close to South Yarra station, with Chapel St a short walk away. South Press Wine Bar is a must try 🥂
The staff here were ace, so friendly! We had a such great time. The food was DELICIOUS and great wines to match ... Definitely go for the Kingfish Pastrami and you can't go wrong!
Amazing venue, great wine list and menu. Knowledgeable staff who are friendly and super efficient . Favourite wine bar in Melbourne !!!! The location is in the leafy end of south yarra which makes it even better to get to with tram at the door step. Love it
Came here because a friend recommended their steak. We ordered hopkins river porterhouse , blue swimmer crab and etc as shown in photos.
Really enjoyed the blue swimmer crab pancake, but not so much on the porterhouse cause it was a little bit chewy. Overall, nice foods, nice wine, great ambience and great service, would probably back for the wine and share board
Nice little place, especially among the Boston ivy, climbing ficus and bamboo out the back in the lovely courtyard. We came here after a long lunch up the road at France Soir. Sometimes kicking on doesn’t go that well, but they handled our merry behaviour extremely well here. We were happy and pleasant as always but probably a bit loudish at times. No matter. We moved steadily through some nice wines. Water was kept up nicely as well. The chap with the German heritage here handled us wonderfully throughout with calm professionalism and very good humour. He is a serious superstar. Nice interlude. I think lunch finished around 9.30pm!
When you walk into the bustling South Press Winebar you are surrounded by walls of exotic bespoke wine so one might be forgiven for thinking food plays second fiddle. I can assure you it does not. We had generously portioned terrine, grilled octopus and a steak that was so tender it almost dissolved on impact. Staff were cheeky, knowledgeable and very accommodating. Will be back when courtyard open, such a great space when the weather heats up.
Hubs and I wandered in for a quick drink and bite during the week and were delighted by the knowledgeable staff, generous wine pours, and delicious sharing plates. Perfect place for a meetup and to enjoy a drink or two (not sure how a full dinner would go, but for a nibble, the venue certainly delivers good food). I would definitely go back.
Gastrology recently joined Adam North and Pepperjack for an intimate masterclass and dinner at South Press Winehouse in South Yarra. We learned some great tips from Adam North (read more about his tips below) and were treated to a delicious dinner of perfectly cooked steak over copious amounts of delicious Pepperjack wines.
Despite a lack of warm ambience South Press did deliver on a range of quality food. The complimentary spicy corn snack was dynamite and had me wringing my trunk in anticipation of what was to come. The shared charcuterie board (with a delicious accompaniment of chillies and pickles) was combined with an amazing foie gras and moorish white anchovies to be an unbelievable start to the meal. Following this, the rabbit gnocchi with carrots matched with a roast pumpkin and popcorn side was a delight, as was the trunk-smacking slow cooked beef on a rich bed of barley. I finished off with a choc raspberry salted caramel slice with hazelnut vanilla ice cream and a poached fig. This was nice, but didn't reach the same level as the other dishes. Overall solid food but the lack of ambience really took away from the overall 4 trumpet experience 🎺🐘
Awesome find! Had dinner and drinks here last night and was genuinely impressed with the unobtrusive service, sophisticated atmosphere and delicious food. We ordered a couple of plates to share including the crab rillette, the octopus and the flank steak. Everything was fantastic but the crab rillette was definitely the stand out. Will be back for sure.
Details: Gorgeous little bar with delicious wine & cheese in South Yarra down Toorak road 😍🍸
You do not expect this place to be as exquisite as it is until you walk down the back. It is unexpectedly big!
Do not come if you want a cheap drink but come if you have class ✌🍹
Arranged to meet some friends at South Press on a recent visit to Melbourne.
Arrived and was greeted warmly by the hostess. Ordered a beer and my friends had a sparkling wine. We had a couple of plates (shared board- meat and cheese, oysters and the Terrine)..yummy.
Moved to mains with the risotto (creamy as) and a beautiful steak. The range of red is interesting with the Tempranillo from Bendigo a winner for me.
Finished with a selection of desserts and coffee. All said a done a nice evening out: good food and wine and helpful staff. I will be back.
I walk past South Press every day on my way to work and promise myself every time that I have to go! Being lucky to get such a beautiful sunny Friday off a few friends and I decided to have a couple of afternoon drinks there. One of the best decisions to date!
I did not know they have a beautiful courtyard which can be entered from the rear of the building. So once our party had found the perfect seat we got chatting with one of the staff members (who's name escapes me sorry!). We found him to be super funny and friendly straight from the get go.
Best thing about this place is it's not just about wine - cocktails and food are high up on the list as well. We started with Aperol Spritz's and once they were served, we were offered to look at the food menus. Another plus about this venue - most wine bars offer just your charcuterie and cheese selections. Which this venue does and very well - but it was so refreshing to be shown a menu that wasn't just "snacky". The food was amazing!! I think we nearly tried everything!! Group favourites were the Lamb ribs, smoked octopus, kingfish ceviche and the beef rump with french onion puree - it was perfect for sharing or to have on your own. Definitely a great place to have a bite to eat. The wine selections were spot on and somehow managed to suit all of the groups taste! These guys know their stuff.
I will most certainly be back and can see many days spent in their courtyard. Thanks guys we had a great time!
Omg, so good!!! Chocolate ripple icrecream was to die for! Waitress was so lovely and made me and my girlfriends feel super welcome on our first time. Will 100% be back here soon.
Great service and food - thanks guys. The beef rump was awesome, recommend it. It's a cozy and friendly venue which is right near where I live.
It took me far too long to check out this gorgeous wine bar but so glad I did. It was a rainy wintery Saturday afternoon and we were welcomed with warm professional service by gorgeous passionate staff. The lighting was perfect, each room so well designed, a buzzing atmosphere that just made you want to settle in and enjoy everything they have to offer. Billecart-Salmon Champagne flowed, fantastic French and local wines on offer, charcuterie and cheese selection is outstanding. The braised Osso Bucco gnocchi melts in your mouth, then the indulgent desserts of lemon cheesecake and vanilla Panna cotta were beautifully balanced. Can't wait to revisit and celebrate upstairs in their stunning function spaces. A local that has it all, and well worth crossing the river for this little gem. Bravo South Press you have won my heart 💞
Love this place! First time here for me and was so impressed. The Rosè was divine and the bartenders were the same! We had the smoked octopus with chorizo- it was beautifully tender, well smoked and looked amazing. We also shared the chorizo board which was heaven!
Perfect venue for a Friday knock off...
Having followed this wine bar on Instagram for a while, I decided it was time to get in and see if it was as good as the pictures looked!
On a nice sunday afternoon our group of 5 settled into the rear courtyard. It is such a serene space and you feel like you are miles away from the hustle of Toorak Rd.
Our waiter greeted us and offered 'Still or sparkling', and we opted for still. Does anyone else just automatically select still as we assume sparkling comes at a premium?
Anyhow, the menu was explained to us and it was heavily weighted towards cheese and charcuterie: just how we like it!
We ventured back inside to peruse the many bottles of wine on display and settled on a Tasmanian Pinot Noir. South Press also doubles as a bottle shop and they have bottle prices for takeaway or sitting in. Their range of wine is quite good with many good quality bottles at reasonable prices.
From the menu our group opted for the Jamon Iberico, pork and prune terrine, Burrata cheese and a French soft cows milk cheese. We also ordered the gnocchi ragu.
Our selection of cheese and charcuterie soon arrived on wooden boards and looked the goods. This was accompanies by small baguettes that we could tear up and pair with our goods. The produce all tasted great. Terrine was really tasty and the soft cheese was perfect.
One area for improvement would be that they placed paper on top of the wooden boards and this made it hard to slice off portions of cheese or terrine.
The gnocchi was seriously yummy, and we requested bread to partner it - which is a must as the ragu sauce should't be left in the bowl.
Overall, this spot is a smooth operation that is exactly where all sunday afternoons should be spent. Great for a catch up with groups and equally as good for a romantic date night.
We will be back!
Beautiful wine, amazing service, and delicious food. A real treat to the neighbourhood, welcome South Press & Crew!! Looking forward to many more lazy Sunday afternoons in the court yard and cosy winter evenings inside 👌💜
Best new addition to Inner City/Eastern burbs. Courtyard is beautiful- an overgrown green sanctuary. Wine list shows depth, Great Cheese and Charcuterie menu. A must visit and a clear stand out newcomer in 2016.
Love the space, a refreshingly modern fit out for the area (yes many south yarra places are getting very tired!)
Great offering, great staff, happy days will be back for more great wine
I was hesitant to give a review 0 as I don’t know how many I want to know about this place…. But I did already boast about it on FB!!
I discovered this new "local" gem on Friday and have to say that while I didn’t think it looked overly inviting from the entrance, once i went inside the warmth of the staff made you feel welcome immediately. Then wandered out to the back courtyard and I couldn’t take the smile off my face – what a delightful area. We took our seats, took advice from the wonderful Bec on our choice of wine – and she didn’t disappoint.
We stayed for 3x bottles as we loved it so much – great atmosphere, great staff, excellent service – I’ll be back!
