One of the best places for bottomless brunch and Mexican treats! Great value for money - $59 for unlimited cocktails (Mexi prosecco anyone?) and a 5 course meal with incredible modern Mexican dishes (the chicken wings will change your life).
Funky, cool brunch spot in Melbourne’s competitive foodie scene. For the very reasonable price of $58pp you get a 5 course tasting menu and drinks. Our drinks were filled up straight away and they all tasted great. The food was nice but even though it was great Mexican food, a number of dishes were hard to eat; the tacos, corn and chicken tortilla chips were nice but messy. Decor is really good, and there’s a young brunch crowd.

Bodega underground is great if you want to enjoy some authentic Mexican food!
We were a little worried about having to have the set menu (we were a large party of 11) and some are fussy eaters BUT the food selection did not disappoint!
Drinks kept flowing, waitress looking after us was amazing and added a few extra dishes for us.
The corn was so amazing! Something I probably would have never ordered but would go back for!
Honestly no negative feedback other than how dark it was in there and by the time I hit food coma stage - i could of fallen asleep 😂
Be sure to book in advance as it is a small establishment.
We've been here a number of times and thoroughly recommend the tasting menu (although do go hungry, we actually turned one course away the last time, we were so full), the cocktails and the bottomless brunch. It's a pleasure to go with The Vegetarian, as there are complete vegan options, and I can still carnivore at will, which make the whole experience painless.
I love Mexican food and bodega underground lived upto my expectations. Absolutely loved their mushroom tacos. A friend of mine had their fish tacos as well and couldn't stop praising it. Amazing options at the bar as well. Would keep coming here again and again.
After all my years of hunting, I’ve finally found Melbourne’s best fish tacos. Crispy, juicy and packed with flavour, Bodega Underground’s fish tacos put all other fish tacos to shame. Serving up Mexican inspired cuisine, with its postered covered walls, Mexican trinkets and funky Cantina vibe, Bodega Underground is a little slice of Mexico right in the CBD.
Atmosphere: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Food: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Came here with my colleagues so basically 4 of us. I had the small size apple cider to start with. Their apple cider is really nice, not too sour for my liking.
Start with totopos with guacamole! Both guacamole really tasty, and the texture are on point.
Had elote! Corn on cob for 1 each! The mayo is the highlight of this dish! Totally recommend
Then to the main we had the tacos
2 fish tacos
2 mushrooms
2 pork
I had the fish tacos which i do recommend
And the mushrooms which just ok for me! :)
⭐️ 4.5 stars ⭐️
Popped into Bodego Underground on a Thursday night and the venue was packed. Luckily we booked a table because at one stage the line was out the door. Staff were nice and helpful. This restaurant is 100% Gluten Free so perfect for the Coeliacs.
What we ordered:
Elote
Pollo Mexicano
Totopos w/ guacamole
Tacos De Pescado
Carnitas
Taco Campechanos
The Elote (corn cobs) were to die for. They were jam packed with flavour and had us wanting more. The Pollo Mexicano (fried chicken) and Totopos w/ guac were both great editions to the staring menu. The sauce that accompanied the fried chicken was spiced to a tolerable level and work well with the dish. In relation to the tacos we ordered the pork, pork & chorizo and fish tacos. Let’s say all of these were demolished. The food is so clean, cooked to perfection and had us leaving content.
We are coming back!
I have been here a few times with friends and the food was delicious, good vibes and waitress/waitors always friendly, polite and attentive despite being so busy!
On my last visit I had booked (I recommend booking as it can get very busy) for a table of 8, however as we were all running late so I rung to notify staff and see if we could still keep our table. As the restaurant plays such loud music it was hard to hear what they were saying on the other side of the phone, and all in all there was a misunderstanding whereby we completely lost our table and I was stuck with 8 hungry people on a busy Saturday night.
So I would just like to suggest for the person on the phone handling bookings to have a quiet place to talk to avoid something so little ruin a delicious dinner
Really cool Mexican place, partly underground and dimly lit so has a bit of a bar vibe. I got the mushroom and black bean tacos, both were really delish with lots of flavour!
My friends and I tried this bottomless brunch! Yummy food and tasty drinks! We were really buzzed by the end of the 90minutes. Food was great : corn, prawn ceviche, nachos and tacos. It took a bit of time for the food to come out but the drinks were quick. Amazing service!
Great location and the restaurant itself carries a great vibe and has some great interior decor!
We went as a group of 7 opted for the Feed Me menu and it was totally worth it - we all left so full we could almost burst. We stuck with wine all night so can't comment on the other options - but the food was delicious, offered a great variety and speedy service. The dessert wasn't something I'd be keen to revisit - but then you can't have everything I guess!
Coeliac rejoice! A gluten free menu makes life that much easier.
This underground hideaway is the perfect place for a stress free meal for those intolerant to gluten. The staff were very helpful and provided additional hot sauce and fresh chilli.
Share: Totopos
Served with guac and a generous helping of of vegan jalapeno cream the saltiness of the chips with the creaminess of the crema made it a delightful dish. If I could change one this about this dish it would be to include a side of salsa.
Share: Quasdillia
Best item for coeliacs, why you ask? Because it satisfies the craving for that deep fried crunch that is so hard to get.
Share: Duck Chilaquiles
The most interesting dish ordered, tortilla chips and duck with a chocolate and cinnamon sauce topped with pickles and jalapeno crema. Personally didn't not enjoy this dish as I'm not a fan of cinnamon but for those of you who love it, then this dish might just be up your alley
Taco: Ox tongue
This is probably my favourite dish, the spiciness of the sauce and pickled jalapeno made this one a winner for me
My advice
Try a bit of everything because I feel like I've missed out on the other dishes they have to offer.
I will certainly be back to try more of the menu!
Great place and great atmosphere!
Menu states “bottomless” mexi bruch.. but only applies to drinks, menu needs to be changed for this to be reflected. Otherwise great place
The bottomless lunch with cocktails is a great option if you want to try new foods and taste some great cocktails. The set menu was good, we could not fault the food we ate. Downfall is that it gets super busy and super LOUD to the point where sometimes you can’t really converse with your table. We went on a Saturday for their latest session, the staff did seem run off their feet, and there was a bit of a wait on ordering our next cocktails. We did look past it because we could see how busy it was, but it does take away from the experience. All in all, still recommend visiting for a bottomless lunch here.
Funky place with interesting decos - kind of have that grungy Berlin artistic vibe! What can go wrong with tacos and drinks!!??! The pork tacos were our fav. Pretty decent prices with a few different options for Vegans too.
Went on a Saturday for the bottomless brunch. The food was excellent and varied - the corn was especially good. There was so much food that we were stuffed at the end. The only issue was mushroom Chilaquiles - the crema was on the bottom of the tortilla pile, so you couldn’t access it until the dish was almost finished.
The cocktails were tasty, and the servers were very quick to refill, so you got your money’s worth.
The seating is quite packed, and everyone is talking quite loud to hear themselves, so don’t expect a quiet brunch.
For $59 it’s one of the better value bottomless brunches in the city.
Got the feed me menu! So much food, my stomach was going to explode. Chips and the sour cream(vegan) was soo good. And the desserts were the highlight. Service was ok
The atmosphere is great - tucked away downstairs from the hustle and bustle.
Delicious tacos pack a flavour punch and the prawn ceviche with watermelon is refreshing and tasty.
✨ Ambience/Venue: Loved the decor, cosiness and music! It was a proper Melbourne underground joint. Very relaxed and gets yu in the mood for a solid drink and feed ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
💁♀️ Service: We got seated immediately (as I had made a prior booking). The staff were attentive enough and food/drinks came out pretty quickly ⭐️⭐️⭐️
🌮 Food: we had the Chilaquiles, sweet potato and black beam tacos and the corn. The food was so YUM!! Loved the Chilaquiles!! The black bean tacos had a good spicy kick. The Sweet Potato tacos were so-so. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
🍸: The cocktails are mostly tequila based, which is not what I prefer but I had the Piñata Colada, which was actually really good! I want to try the Michelada next time. The guys at the next table were drinking it and it looked YUM! ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Definitely will go back soon!! 🙏
It’s hard to find really good Mexican food in Melbourne, but Bodega Underground ticked the boxes for me. I’d call it modern Mexican rather than striving for strict authenticity; that said, it’s all about freshness, flavour and accessibility for those with dietary requirements. Really impressed that the whole menu is gluten-free and all the vegetarian options are also vegan (not that you notice the lack of cheese!). We tried the tostados, the mushroom chilaquiles and the sweet potato tacos - all were extremely delicious. Love the use of smoky chipotle, sweet watermelon, meaty mushrooms and vegan queso! Will definitely go back to try other dishes!
Great food but took 2 hours overall, booked 1 week in advance and we were sat at the bar
Other people came in after us and sat at the bar, they were sat at a table within 5 minutes. Bar tenders were nice and the hardest working bar staff we’ve ever seen and the waitress who said it was her first day was amazingly nice
We get it was busy but when you put in a reservation and other people are sat before you it’s a slap in the face
Music was super loud
Good food but I’d work on the head waiters people skills
Good to see once but I wouldn’t go out of my way to go back
I love this place so much. Great food and vibe. The corn is to die for and so is the dip/corn chip bowl. The fish tacos are amazing too. It’s hard to top the corn cobs though. They would be my last chosen meal if I had to choose.
We came here with a larger group for dinner. We shared most of the food and the price of the meal was great value! The fried chicken was definitely a table favourite, and the elotes too (however I felt it needed a bit more sauce compared to others I’ve tried). The tacos were nice but not my favourites in Melbourne, we had a mix of fish, pork and sweet potato. Couldn’t put my finger on it, but while the dishes were nice, they missed the wow factor. Definitely worth the value though.
First thing first, really cool restaurant 🙆🏻♀️ seems like busy all the time 😗 anw i like the food here, like 3.5/5, but gotta wait for quite long, the service is nice, friendly
Great service and atmosphere. Some really interesting drinks - including a cinnamon rice milk that I had and a salty tomato beer like drink my friend had. Highlights are he duck nachos, the cauliflower and the prawn tacos. The food had loads of flavour and lots of different textures. We had a ball.
4.5 rating
Had the lunch special menu which is excellent value for money - nachos and dip, corn, 2 tacos, and a cocktail for $29. The real standout of this place though is the friend chicken. I would give this 100 out of 5 if I could. The seasoning, the crispness of the coating, the accompanying sauce. It’s up there with the best friend chicken I have had in Melbourne. Definitely returning!
Mexican Bottomless Brunch. 90 minutes of bottomless cocktails (mock for me) & a 5 course menu for $65. Second time here and it didn’t fail to impress me 🌮🌯 @bodegaunderground.
✖️Chilli & Lime salted fried chicken wings
✖️Elotes with Chipotle Mayo
✖️Pulled Chicken loaded tortilla chips
✖️Braised Pork Tacos
✖️Cinnamon coated Churros
Food and Drinks at the very Quirky Eclectic eatery is definitely TopNotch. There's so much character to the whole decor that you feel nothing less than being in a Pub in Mexico
Our personal favorite was everything that we ordered including tequila, potatoes base entre (forgot the name) ceviche taco and Tequila's cousin Mezcal which not many are aware of.
The most unusual experience was being served this particular drink ( we think Ancho ) that is served in a glass rimmed with salt and grounded worm and grasshopper
Super-friendly and decently priced, we simply loved this place.
Vegans and Vegetarians have decent options to choose from.
A Must
This place was amazing! We did the $55 bottomless brunch and it was definitely worth the money. The corn and ceviche was our favourite part and my favourite cocktail was the Paloma. The tacos were a bit disappointing but the service & first 3 dishes were great! Also, our waiter (young blonde woman with glasses) was great! Very attentive and kept a great vibe. Thanks!!
A super awesome find! I was incredibly surprised to find this treasured gem in the heart of the Melbourne CBD. Awesome food, yummy drinks and a bustling atmosphere combines into a coeliac’s trendiest haunt.
Can’t stress enough how delicious everything was, particularly their fried chicken 😋
The Mexican fare offered at Bodega Underground leans more towards traditional cuisine rather than the more Americanised Tex Mex, which is a major plus for me personally.
Can’t recommend this place enough!
Love love love this place. Hidden gem underground! Food was amazing and staff were friendly and enthusiastic. All of our dishes were yum, especially the prawn tacos!! Would highly recommend this place to everyone! We went around 8:30pm (summer) so it wasn’t too busy and the lights were dimmed, couldn’t see much after that haha but it felt very cozy
Came here for lunch and ordered the Feed Me for two people. Perfect option if you want to try a bit of everything. The food was amazing and the service was exceptional. Would highly recommend!
So delighted to find this place! One of the very few places with an open kitchen till 3 am!
The place is super cute with fairy lights everywhere.
We did the feed me menu which we almost never do because I take immense pleasure in ordering :)
The menu is so intresting, i remember at one point eating a "sweet potato and pickled cabbage" taco and saying: why does this work and how is it so good?
I gotta say, one of the best Guacamole and chips I had! Hands down.
The feed me menu was fantastic, we had to tell them to stop bringing out dishes which is also another rare occasion :)
The service was amazing, super attentive and flexible to ask us what we feel like having to incorporate it in the feed me and the value for money was fantastic!
Dont forget to try the cocktail with jalapeno salt!!!
Really great vibes here! Service was great as well. We got here during happy hour so got one of the tequila cocktails 😋😋
My friend and I decided on the 'feed me' option as we figured it couldn't be too much; well we were stuffed by the end of it.
Started with the guac nachos, which you can't go wrong with, then the corn dish and fried potatoes. Then three different tacos. The tacos were average, could have had better seasoning and sauce. Finished off a yummy sweet dessert; I'm not a fan of chocolate but the dessert was so good. Definitely recommend this place for some decent eats
Great place to enjoy Mexican tapa style dining. Service was exceptional. Their tacos and fried chicken was superb. A little on the expensive side but definitely worth it for quality.
First time there, booking was easy. Quirky vibe and quaint decor.
The drinks were nice , no alcohol for me that day so I had a hibiscus tea chilled which was delicious.
Food was delicious we got a few plates to share, corn with melted cheese was to die for, the fried chicken with tangy taste was a great beer and snack combo and the tacos were good portions. The staff were friendly and we were asked several times if we needed anything .
Overall a good experience, a great spot for a good night out with your amigos.
This is a gem of restaurant/bar in Chinatown that certainly lives up to its name. Located in an underground shop front you immediately get transported to a Mexican tequila bar housing some of the finest wines and Mexican tequilas money can buy. You can either sit at the bar and let the superb bartenders dazzle you with their cocktail making abilities or take a seat in the comfortable booths and dig into the exciting assortment of Mexican Street dishes. I highly recommend the fried chicken and the chorizo and pork tacos and let the waiter surprise you with a cocktail or a glass of wine from the Bodega cellar. This is a seriously cool bar that exudes energy and will liven up your night on the town.
This place is a wonderful hidden gem,
The food was absolutely delicious, the fish taco, mushroom taco and sweet potato taco were definitely the favourites as well as the corn chips with dip, and corn!
The feed me option is a great value for money (comes with dessert!),
Atmosphere is wonderful, staff and service is wonderful
Caters for a lot of dietary requirements, food is fresh and great quality and came quickly
Highly highly recommend this place for Mexican food, definitely better than other places such as Fonda and mamasita
But be mindful that the vegan chilaquiles was a bit soggy and odd tasting,
Overall a must try place that I will definitely be coming back to!
Had the feed me menu option at the bar. For $40 a head very reasonable for the amount of food and super filling. Tasty food and drinks. Sasha (sorry if incorrect spelling) a legend behind the bar very entertaining. Love this place.
I recently had my birthday here with a large group. Julian couldn't have been more accommodating and was great to deal with. The service and food were so good, and we definitely had plenty to eat. My favourite was the fish tacos and the corn! Looking forward to returning one day.
This is a great little dive in the city. The staff was friendly and attentive. The seating was cozy and comfortable. We made a reservation for 4 people and unexpectedly added a guest. The staff was quite accommodating. The food came out quick and hot relative to other Mexican restaurants. The whole group ordered the "eat me" all you can which entails a selection of items on the menu. It was delicious. The eat me menu consisted of a couple appetizers along with many different types of tacos and dessert. The corn with queso was sloppy to eat but so delicious, crunchy and salty. We had two vegetarians with us (one of which had gluten free and wheat free requirements) and they accommodated everyone's dietary restrictions (or lack of). The vegetarian tacos were also delicious with its crunchy slaw and sweet potato. The fish taco had the crispy texture and had great flavours. They had a wide variety of vino, cervesas, cocktails and drinks to accompany the food. The chicken with Chipotle mayo was on point. However, we had to ask them to stop brining us food as it came out consistently and was pipping hot. I was stuffed and satisfied at the end of the meal. I highly recommend this cute little joint if you find yourself in the city with an empty stomach.
Went in for a quick meal and drink after Australian Open. Waitress was friendly and gave a good review of the vego meals. Happy with the service, drink and meal. I would recommend to late night eaters and for drinks.
My wife and I visited here, a great place with awesome food. Super friendly staff and really nice vibe. I’ll be returning with a larger group to make a night of it for sure.
We had the feed me option - heaps of food all absolutely smashing. Best of all was the service - we were running late for a show - they offered to split our meals - before and after the show ?! How good ?
Had planned to try somewhere else close by but when they were full up, we followed the neon sign to Bodega underground.
Opening the door we were greeted with warmth from the heaters and the happy chatter of a busy bar. The vibe felt good so we continued in! With a real tavern/dive bar feel, helped out by low ceilings, packed booths and a mixture of newspaper and magazine clippings all over the walls and roof, we settled into a small table amongst the dimly lit red lights and loud rock tunes. Food was good but not amazing, as others mentioned the staff were very friendly and chatty, adding to the great atmosphere. I could see this being fun at 2am as well :)
Happy and unexpected surprise on a Friday night !
The $32 deal per person was definitely worth it for 2 people. There was definitely plenty of food and really filling. The tacos were amazing! Highly recommend! Great vibe and atmosphere. The staffs were friendly and welcoming.
Cool little bar which stays open into the early hours of the morning. At 2am we were able to order some veg tacos - I enjoyed the sweet potato one but the cauliflower one wasn't good. My suggestion would be to bake the cauliflower in spices perhaps.
This place is a hidden gem in Chinatown. Very nice underground vibe restaurant, files with posters on the walls and graffiti all over.
Their bottomless brunch is amazing, offering you five traditional Mexican dishes with limitless drinks. And it is really bottomless, the quick service always make sure to get your refill as fast as possible. Great experience! Will definitely come back.
Now there is a groovy Mexican place to visit. With very knowledgeable staff that will take you through a journey of quite different tasting tequilas. When you add some tasty food to the mix you will have a great time. If you want to make sure to get a table you better book since walk in gets frequently turned away.
We came here for their bottomless brunch, a 5-course Mexican brunch with bottomless cocktails ($69), which happens every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
The place is small and can get packed super quickly, so you must book a table. The time slot you get is 90 minutes, where they will serve the food whenever it is ready, and you need to order the cocktails.
I loved the food, and the drinks were super impressive! Before I knew it, I had 5 Bloody Orange Spritzes. They were out of this world!
I am definitely coming back again.

I really enjoyed Bodega Underground. The atmosphere was very good. The food was very excellent. Had the bottomeless brunch with some friends the other day.
The corn was just so mouthwatering. The toppings for it was perfect. Drinks were yum. The churros were fantastic and dipping sauce was to die to for.
Overall it was a very excellent and well priced experience. Ill definitely try to go back!
I had late night cravings for Mexican food last week and came across this restaurant called Bodega Underground
Tried their:
Carnitas (Pork) ($13)
Tacos de Pescado (Fish) ($14)
Chucho’s House Lager ($12)
I was surprised How good the tacos are and realised why it was so busy considering it was almost 12am that time. So make sure to book a table ahead of time because it gets pretty busy, we are sitting at the bar 😭
Will definitely be back again
Corn was the star. This place will need to be booked well in advance especially for dinner. I recommend getting the feed me menu as you'll get a taste of most of their menu for actually a good price.
Great little Mexican bar/small restaurant. Very busy and lively. Loved the horchata with rum! I drank them out of horchata :-) also the churros were next level delicious. Maybe best ever.
