It's a clear 5-star for me, this place is exceptional. Padre coffee done to perfection on an old manual machine; chef (Fabio) who used to work at the Grand Hyatt amongst other places. Friendly neighbourhood feel. They use the best quality produce - as you can see from the larder where you can buy much of it yourself. Favourite Melbourne cafe by a mile.
Had no idea this little cafe existed. Only found it in the quiet backstreets of Parkville as I had taken a wrong turn (or two!)
Really was worth stopping at.
Excellent coffee.
Being so close to where I work, The Parkville store is a nice place to escape the hustle and bustle of Royal Parade/Melbourne University. Tucked down a small quiet tree lined street is the Parkville Store. I’ve come here several times to get a coffee however this time when I went, I went with some friends and had lunch here.
Parkville General Store is a really cool little find . Super nice restored Victorian terrace, retro furniture and lollies and seriously great pastries. Fabio’s daily muffin is always delicious, ditto the almond croissants - perfect with your first coffee of the day. The staff are all lovely, attentive but still give you space to enjoy the experience. And they remember all the little things - like making sure your dog has water too. Pick a sunny Spring morning and go hang out.
Lovely neighbourhood cafe. Breakfast and lunch menu with rotating specials. Also has small selection of grocery items for sale.
Wrap had great flavour, $14.50. Couscous salad was nice, $16.50. Both slightly more expensive than I would have valued it at.
The Padre coffee is wonderful, & the spanakopita with the complimenting salad of fresh mint & basil was AMAZING. The rest of the menu was on the basic side. My friend had the corn fritters, which seemed very expensive for the quantity i.e. there was no poached egg, or bread/ interesting sides (apart from the salmon). The place itself is extremely cute - I would recommend going if you haven't been. All up, an adorable suburban cafe amid beautiful Victorian houses .
Really good coffee and friendly staff, would definitely recommend! They use Padre coffee, which is great and they have bonsoy soy milk👌🏼👌🏼
I consider a great fortune when there's great coffee right at my doorstep.
The store is an eccentric fusion of a cafe and a general store, where interesting organic produce, alongside kids' lollies that seem a blast from the past are sold, while gourmet coffee and cafe style foods are served. The attendees are usually quiet and relaxed, making it a perfect place to hang out all afternoon and get some reading done.
Coffee is consistently excellent here. The barrista takes care with the coffee and the ambience is perfect for enjoying the brew. It can get very busy around lunchtime because of its location, I have had a vegetarian pizza special here once that I shared with a friend and I have to say it was absolutely delicious. Very good produce was used, flavourful tomatoes and creamy cheese.. Wonderful. I will come back, time and time and time again :)
The Parkville Store always has a really nice, relaxed atmosphere and all of their staff are very friendly. As a result, you always feel welcome here. The food, while not super fancy, hits the spot. This place has recently become one of my favourite local cafes and I would recommend it to anyone.
I love love love the Parkville General Store. In a very good location; with great food and coffee. On a nice day, grab the picnic blanket (available from PGS) and sit on the grass. Would recommend.
Excellent coffee by Tony with a good but limited menu. Decor is cosy. Old fashioned lollies for the kids. Only criticism is perhaps a little expensive
Really good coffee and decor. I always order the cheese, ham and relish toasted - they have perfected it! This is a great meeting place with an interesting decor. Service is often inconsistent but usually friendly.
Excellent! Love this place. Have been here twice now and both times ordered the lunch plate. Delicious plate of dips, flat bread, mount zero olives, dolmades, couple of dips and small goods. My husband always orders the toasted sandwich with relish, ham and cheese - so good also. The ambiance of the place is cool and cute. Love it on a lovely day with the windows open.
I've decided to join Zomato just to write this review. The (2) long blacks were some of the best I've ever had. I almost never drink two coffees in one sitting--this time I felt compelled to order a second despite the fear of caffeine jitters.
For breakfast I just asked them what was good that day, and they brought me a delicious trout with two poached eggs, asparagus, and a mixed greens salad with beetroot and walnuts. I'm not a picky eater and I have a tendency to scarf down my food, but in this case I took the time to enjoy every bite.
A bit pricey perhaps but to me it was worth every cent. I'll be back.
We were visiting our daughter in Melbourne at uni earlier this week and met her at Parkville Store for breakfast. The food was absolutely lovely and very really inexpensive. We paid for 6 people and the bill was $105. What a bargain, especially as we pay so much more in Perth. The coffee was strong and hot, just as I ordered, and everyone enjoyed their meals. The food was fresh and the service was fabulous. We will definitely be back to Parkville Store and of course will be paying for our poor student daughter again!!
I admit it, I'm a Toastie addict and I've found where I can fulfil this addiction. The Parkville Store has the BEST toastie in Melbourne - piccalilli and cheddar with a mustard butter. I think I'm in toastie heaven, particularly on a cold Melbourne day. The coffee is pretty damn good too! I love this little corner of Parkville.
I visited the Parkville Store for breakfast last week. I love this place; a gorgeous old corner store that has been beautifully and lovingly restored. Their coffee is great (Padre) and I had the smashed avocado on toast...delicious! I highly recommend if you love good food and fabulous coffee in a relaxed environment.
Wonderful cafe experience ... one of those hard places to find ... the ones the locals know about..... Padre coffee roasted locally in Brunswick and smashed avo on sourdough... a winner!
Great little nook in the very inner north. Great to read the other reviews - prompted us to visit. The coffee is real good and the cafe is such a cute little space with lots of atmosphere. Staff were lovely. Set on a quiet corner amidst a residential streetscape ( architecture is an escape back to a previous time, some beautiful two storey 1800's elegant builds). Im guessing its a locals favourite. A very nice experience.
Friendliest people you will ever meet. Great little hidden gem with the very best ham and cheese toasted sandwich of all time
Nice food and coffee, good decor. Lots of choice for vegetarians.
Lovely place and excellent service. Another great inner-urban coffee shop and brunch/lunch venue. It's off the main roads, so has a relaxed atmosphere without the noise and fumes of passing traffic, and the service is both prompt and friendly. I had the soup of the day (lentil and vegetable) followed by a delicious apricot and cardamon cake (with ice cream). Both were very good. I will be back.
Yummy food and friendly service. Only suggestion is to have a highchair available, would make it much easier for families.
Pol. We live in the 'hood and go often for coffee with neighbours. Tony (barista) is unfailingly cheerful and makes EXCELLENT coffee. The café is just right; and now there are tables outside which are perfect on sunny days. Morrah Street is beautiful but quiet so conversation is easy when sitting outdoors. Yesterday we had an almond croissant; it was superior! I asked the waiter which bakery it was from. She told me they now have a chef making pastries in-house; so full marks to that chef! Long live our Parkville Store!
Lovely atmosphere. Very nice decor, such a nice place to visit. The food was lovely but it would have been good to see prices for the food specials before we payed for them... they weren't written on the board and there weren't any menus :(
This place is AMAZING. Friendly, great food, nice selection of take home stuff, relaxed atmosphere.
Parkville Store really strikes a genuine balance between modern and retro cosy. Sleek wood benches blend with formica-topped tables and vinyl chairs, and you’re as like to find old-school cinnamon sugar and butter as smashed avocado on your toast. There’s a small, friendly staff (Mat and I are determined to edge in as first-name basis regulars as soon as possible) and the atmosphere is warm and relaxed. And of course – the food is pretty damned great.
