So nice to discover this place:)
Trying out new pho restaurant is always fun because it seems that everyone has a different preference for the pho soup in their own little individual ways. I tried bun bo hue (otherwise known as BBH) , pho and spring roll and I was not disappointed at the taste of them. Also they had quite a funky plated which I loved (no disrespect to those authentic plastic plates ofc, I love them too- I don’t judge the soup by its plate!)
It was also one of the rare Asian restaurants that accepted pets so thank you for letting our doggo dine with us outside 🤗
The taste is superb, it tastes like authentic Vietnamese food and this place is great whenever I’m craving for Vietnamese food💖 the staffs are nicee
Will return here
Generous serving of meat for the phos. My favourite is the beef pho and almost every dish under the comfort food category. Highly recommended.
Really nice home style dishes available. We were very happy with the quality of the food.
this place is a revelation so many new viet. dishes. and so much flavour and nuance too. im used to hanoi hannah/ miss chu type dishes. this is so different style i love. i found out about in an instagram ad. thankyou frm an irish-aussie.

Bailer shell stir-fried with water spinach (ốc giác xào rau muống) (~$25): the shell was fresh and well-cooked but still a bit hard; sauce was too salty. • Razor shell with salted egg yolk sauce (ốc móng tay sốt trứng muối) (~$25): generous sauce but the sauce itself did not have rich salted egg yolk flavour. • Thai seafood hotpot ($40): the soup was pretty good by itself but then became too flavoursome and not very tasty by the time I put all seafood and veggie in.

Beautiful vietnamese cafe with slightly more authentic vietnamese dishes!
FOOD: We ordered the Vermicelli Salad with prawn and vegetarian spring rolls as well as the beef stew with egg noodles. The beef stew with egg noodles is a win for sure! It was sooo authentic and it took me back to my time in Vietnam! The stew was so delightful and the beef was cooked to perfection! For $15, it’s definitely super worth it. The vermicelli salad on the other hand... it was good but not great. The size of the spring rolls were INCREDIBLY tiny and though the filling was amazing, I do wish it was slightly bigger.
The interior of District Mot is lovely and the food is really nostalgic to my holidays in Vietnam! It’s definitely a good deal for Zomato Gold members and a great place if you just want some pho :)
Funky modern Vietnamese restaurant offering unique streetfood dishes like a variety of grilled cockles and clams. Service was great and the owner is really friendly. BYO is a bonus!
The Service was polite and friendly, even helped us making rice paper roll. The toilet is somewhere else though. We ordered spring rolls, bbq beef and beef hot pot. Yummy prawn and taro spring rolls! We will come back.
Beautiful food and friendly warm services. Everything on the menu is must try. You should check their specials too. Definitely a gem! We have came back many times and always enjoy each time.
I would have given it 3 because of the service time but the quality and flavor of the soup made me give it a 4. Me and my friends were here for a quick and tasty lunch. It was tasty but it wasn't quick at all.
If you are walking around in the CBD (not around all the Vietnamese restaurants in Swanston street) then I think this place is a really good option to try Vietnamese food. They have a small menu, which makes choosing your dish very easy and simple. Price-wise they were alright, I used Zomato Gold so I got a complimentary dish which is always awesome.
First, lets talk about food. I got a Vermicelli Bowl with grilled Pork. Vermicelli was nice an warm and the pork was cooked very nicely as well. I love a bowl of vermicelli with fish sauce and meat and this one did not disappoint me at all. It had great flavors and I was completely satisfied after having it.
I also tried beef pho and I thought that the texture of the noodles and the flavors of the soup were spot on. I had such a flavourful pho after a long time.
Now the bad part, we went there on a Saturday and maybe they were short on staff on that day and we had to wait a really long time to get the food on our table. 2 of us had to get takeaway because by the time food was ready, it was time to go.
I would definitely recommend this place for a good Vietnamese meal but only if you have time to spare, but if you are in a hurry or going in for a quick lunch, you might want to skip this one.
They have such a great selection on the menu, the comfort food section of the menu is the best!I called through ahead of time to request for an outdoor table because I had my pup with me and they were happy to assist.
Shaken Beef was the best dish, but wouldn't be running back for it any time soon.
The dishes taste clean and well prepared however, don't have that local/home cooked flavour as food in Vietnam would have - it is not necessarily a negative, it depends on what you're after.
Overall was a great experience.
The restaurant is very much a nod to the street-feel of Vietnam, with the little balconies and street signs.
The menu is a combination of Vietnamese favourites from the north and south.
I ordered the pho hanoi combination which had a surprisingly large amount of rare beef and sliced brisket.
The first thing I noticed was the consistency of the soup, which is much more viscous than any other pho I've had. In true northern style, it's clean under the layer of oil, clear and lightly beefy.
The wafer-thin sliced onion is actually sweet and provides a bit of a bite.
Clean interior, quick service, it's a great option for Vietnamese at this end of the city.
My Rating: 4.5
After some fun shopping with my friend we were feeling hungry so we looked up Zomato and found District Mot. It had been a while since I had decent authentic Vietnamese food and we utilised Zomato Gold offer.
🔆LOCATION🔆
District Mot is situated on Rose Lane, a paved pedestrian laneway between Little Bourke Street and Lonsdale Street, where Midtown Apartments and Manhattan Tower are located. The laneway also has other eateries as well, fairly hidden area but quite easy to find.
District Mot restaurant from outside is not very noticeable, the neon signage is quite small. Upon walking closer we discovered that it is the right place, when we walked in, it was quite a lovely decor inside with an old style rickshaw on one corner, and a large mural wall painting which makes you feel like you're in the old town of Ho Chi Minh City.
On the other wall, almost life-like real exterior architecture featuring typical old balcony with oriental window design, a window with corrugated roof sheets and wooden roller blinds and a window with two wooden shutters.
The restaurant is not very big, but well designed that fits enough wooden table and chairs and towards the very back near the counter is a hidden long booth that could seat 6-7 people.
🔆SERVICE🔆
As we walked in, we were asked if we had a reservation to which we replied no. The guy (whom I think is one of the owners) checked the booking system and came back and said they were fully booked but offered to seat us at the booth and advised we have 1.5 hours before the booking arrives. We were okay with that as we wanted a quick dinner before heading home.
As we had arrived just after 6pm (still early) there were 3 other occupied tables. Customer service was fantastic, one of the best that I had experienced in a long while. We asked for recommendations and he was very fun and outgoing and gave us a quick overview and even suggested we consider some items on the special board like clams, pipi etc saying that they are typical food that would be eaten in Vietnam. We discovered upon having conversation with him that most of the food on the menu are typical street food yet also home style comfort food they would normally eat at home. We felt quite excited to try the food. Food service was extremely fast, we were very impressed.
🔆MENU/PRICE🔆
We ordered the following items:
CHAO TOM: Sugar Cane Prawn, $12.00
(Grilled prawns wrapped with sugar cane served with woven vermicelli, mixed salad and fish sauce)
OC MONG CHAN: Razor Clams, $15.00
CHA GIO HEO: Traditional Spring Rolls, $7.50
(6 crispy spring rolls with minced pork & glass noodles served with mixed salad and fish sauce)
CA KHO TO: Fish Claypot, $13.00
(Stewed Basa Fish in coconut juice in a claypot)
COM GA HOI AN: Hoi An Chicken Rice, $14.00
(Hoi An style chicken salad served on chicken rice and ginger fish sauce dressing)
Avocado Smoothie, $6.00
🔆VERDICT🔆
It was our first time to eat razor clams, it was upon being educated by the lovely owner on the difference of clams he suggested razor clams as they have more meat. To our suprise the razor clams was cooked in battered salty egg yolk so it tasted lighty salty. My friend absolutely enjoyed the dish and almost demolished the clams herself haha! I thought it was very well cooked dish and the clams did have alot of meat on them!
The sugar cane prawns was very tasty. The were 4 in a serving and decent sized. With this dish the prawns are made into a paste so that it can be wrapped around the sugar cane to be fried. I could taste the prawn was quite fresh and the sugar cane was very juicy and the sweetness of the sugar was quite delicious.
We had never eaten Basa fish before but apparently this type of fish is typically eaten in Vietnam and are found in the Meekong River farked by fishermans. I think this was the main highlight of all the dishes we ate. The fish meat was very tender and smooth to eat. This dish is definitely best to be eaten with rice. The broth was full of delicious flavour and was not heavy at all. A definite a nice feel good dish.
I've been to Hoi An before and the chicken rice is definitely a local cuisine. It is nothing fancy a simple dish but good flavour. The chicken is boiled and sliced into pieces with nice flavour. The yellow rice was particularly enjoyable. Wish there was a bit more pickled carrot and radish on the plate just to balance out the meat and rice. This dish comes with a bowl of chicken soup which I used a spoon to add into the rice and chicken for added flavour.
My avocado smoothie was delicious, definitely had fresh avocado in it. Was refreshing!
Overall had a fabulous dining experience and the prices of each dishes were pretty good. Definitely will be back!

I’m so obsessed with Vietnamese pancake because I never really had it till I moved here. District Mot is probably one of the leading full-fledged Vietnamese restaurants in CBD. 💰saving tip: this place is on zomato gold!

Review: This place is close to Southern cross station. Upon entering, I was transported to a Hanoi street stall from. Thoughtfully designed murals and Oriental decor scattered in store. It was a chilly day so I ordered a chicken pho and Vietnamese pancake. With my Zomato gold, it was a sweet buy 1 free 1 so I only paid $20 ($10 pp meals in the heart of CBD that is not a wrap? Yay!).
The Vietnamese pancake was probably the best version of ban xheo in town. While the portion is smaller than usual, they compensate this with generous amounts of lettuce. Chicken pho was heartwarming and did not taste like there was MSG inside. Would try their rice dishes next!
I also really appreciate the service here - they anticipated our need for sharing bowls and got it for us without me. Thank you for a good fuss-free work lunch!

If you are wanting so unique traditional foods that you don’t often see at Viet eateries this place has them. Service is friendly, the decor is ultra cute that is reflective of what you would see in Vietnam.
Portion size is great at a reasonable price point.
The broken rice broke me, no lies. The chili sauce that accompanied the rice took me right back to my childhood and burned so good. The fried calamari and its complementary sauce was so fragrant that it would compete well with the gifts of the wise men themselves (refer to Bible). The aesthetic was quaint and transported me to the streets of Saigon, coupled with the enthusiastic sounds of quality karaoke.
Love the place with a very cosy and warm ambiance. The place was tastefully done reflecting the culture and the food tastes great as well. Would definitely go again
What an amazing hidden gem! Found this through Zomato Gold and glad I did!! The beef skewers are amazing, tender, flavoursome, and the accompanying sauce is divine. The chicken wings are crispy and tasty. Can’t wait to come back.
The best one Vietnamese food in Melb. Happy to be here with really friendly staff and delicious food. Good atmosphere and warm Vietnamese style restaurant. Deserve 5 stars. Highly recommended for everyone.
This place has truly become my everyday go to recently! Absolutely authentic Vietnamese! Thumbs up!!
Come with friends. Not that valued since we find the menu in zomato is $35 for lamb hot pot, however, the menu in restaurant is $45, probably they forgot to update? Not sure but changed a lot. The wall has been paint with a nice review. The food we order the chicken and broken rice??(not sure the name), not bad, could be improved. Overall it would be 3.7. Average cost is around $30 per person for lunch. But if you had Zomato gold membership just around $16 per person.
Hidden little restaurant with a tranquil ambience. Staff were friendly and helpful w/ amazing food
This place is special, the food was great i had the traditional springrolls, and pork skewers and pork and egg stew and all tasted how it great, the service was attentive and the interior took me to Vietnam instantly.
I really enjoyed everything about this place the interior was good and the food was just like home! I highly recommend thia place for food lovers.
We came to District Mot the other night, a new hidden gem in the CBD. The first thing upon entering was the interior, it felt like you were entering Saigon and as the owner would put it “ home” for some of his regular customers.
The menu was also very authentic and had a lot of traditional Vietnamese dishes available, we tried to the bo la lot, nem nuong and the seafood hotpot which is has a delicious sweet and sour hotpot soup base.
The bo la lot was really nice, the char on the leaves was perfect whist leaving the beef inside still very tender. The nem nuong which is one of my favourite entrees ( BBQ pork sausage skewers ) were really tender and succulent, this dish in my opinion was done very well as usually they can go very dry.
Overall we had a great dinner experience at District Mot and will definitely come back for the hotpot , the seafood was really fresh but the hero was the soup base
Thanks so much for having us in !
District Mot, pronounced “mort” was the first city of Saigon, otherwise now known as Ho chi Minh – and this is exactly what the owner, Minh aims to encapsulate. This restaurant tucked in the cosy Rose Lane in the Melbourne CBD features an entire wall-sized mural of Vietnamese streets, a pedestrian crossing painted across the ground, complemented with the delicious comfort of homely cooking – transporting locals to Vietnam and giving the Viet the sweet nostalgia of home.
Bite-size food has always been my favourite and I am so glad I found this restaurant!
From the moment stepping into the door, I had this feeling of being in Vietnam. I mean the decor, the interior design, and even the rickshaw.. the owner put so much effort into the outfit.
Ok here comes the food. We tried 5-6 entree size dishes because we found them being super attractive. Both the pork and beef skewers were nicely grilled and full of flavour.
The friendly staff recommended tamarine prawn to us and it was my favourite dish of the night! The prawn was full of meat tasted very fresh. Sweet and sour flavour went well with this dish.
The Vietnamese mini pancake was another must-have! They were so cute in bite sizes filled with assorted seafood.
For drink we had coconut juice super super refreshing, a great match with all the food!
Would love to be back and try other main dishes- broken rice, salad, pho...
My new favorite Vietnamese restaurant in Melbourne! So authentic and homely, every dish was very delicious. We also ordered grilled chicken wings, traditional spring rolls and sweet and sour soup. Definitely coming back again
The only place in melbourne i can find authentic vietnamese food. They have comfort food which is great in winter and the hotpots are just like real vietnam...
Hidden Gem in Melbourne CBD. This new vietnamese restaurant focuses on those home cooked comfort meals as well as street food.
The food was so hearty and delicious. We had their unique vietnamese style spicy chicken hotpot. this is one of the first vietnamese restaurants I've seen with the authentic hotpot. It comes with a serve of veggies and egg noodles and fried chicken which area all cooked in the boiling pot of soup. The soup is slightly spicy and slightly herbal. The perfect winter meal.
We also had a range of side dishes which were amazing! Cant wait to go back to check out their goat hotpot.
While most of our dishes definitely satisfied, the Com Tam, which is a Vietnamese staple, really missed its mark.
Despite this, and the smaller than expected portions, we are hopeful to have a more consistent experience next time round, because that fish stew was just absolutely sensational.

We really enjoyed dining at District Mot. Walking in to the place, we immediately noticed the decoration of the place, feels like we were in Vietnam.
The food was amazing, definitely very authentic. We had spring rolls, viet pancake, sugarcnae prawn (must try), vermicelli with grilled chicken and pepper pork claypot. Really impressed with all the dishes. Will definitely come back for sure.
First time visit & tried out their chicken hotpot & fish cake. Chicken was pre-cooked and the soup base is so nice! Worth the price.

For lunch today we tried various dishes from different sections of the menu at District Mot. Tucked down Rose Lane with the most amazing mural on the wall we perused the very extensive menu, with plenty of larger dishes like clay pot and pho, for lunch today with opted to order lots of smaller dishes to share.
We started with Prawn and Taro spring rolls, these arrived thin, crispy and delicious and had the loveliest prawn filling. The Auntie who prepared them has it down pat, along with the delicious homemade dipping sauce, these were simply wonderful rolled up in the crispy lettuce and fragrant mint.
Next we tried the Vegetarian rice paper rolls and they were fresh fresh fresh. Great flavours of mint, salad and noddles with a fabulous chilli sauce the perfect size.
From the Barbeque section we ordered the Sugar cane prawns. These smokey sticks where magnificent, the texture just divine I found the accompaniment of vermicelli noodles and lettuce to roll up was simply terrific, these have to be the best sugar cane prawns I have ever had.
Also from the BBQ section we ordered the BBQ chicken wings, these bite sized pieces where piping hot, sticky, tasty, sweet and spicy, all around yum. We could not stop, they are amazing and would be have been perfect with wine.
With so many other great items on the menu we would love to come back and try out District Mot for dinner some time soon.
Thanks so much for your hospitality
You walk into 'Vietnam' how nice is the styling? The place is so well styled and very ho chi minh city. Everything from little pictures and details so well done. The only thing is this place is hidden! You don't just come across District Mot you need to know its there. I'm telling you need to find it if you are after authentic Vietnamese. Everything from the entres to the BBQ and Hot Pot were so well done. **Disclaimer: although the restaurant has generously invited me to their restaurant this review is still based on my genuine opinion.
The food is amazingly good and authentic. But i am quite dissapointed in the service. It took SO LONG to prepare foods. I think the restaurant system is not really organized. Even people who order after us receive their foods first.

The restaurant: is a simple but customised restaurant that makes you feel comfortable.
The service: I could see that the restaurant is mostly visited by Asian and the waiter who was the only one there speaks the minimum of English, but it wasn’t a problem.
The food: I tried the BBQ beef skewer (4/5) and the beef brisket pho (4,5/5). The thing about the bbq was that I had no idea how to eat everything together as they do, but the skewer was delicious but it wasn’t enough. The pho was amazing and incredible tasty, very soft and fresh.
I do recommend here to try at least once (;
I was walking past and i saw this place by accident and thought id give it a try as the interior was really something diffrent! As a peraon from vietnam i have very high standards in authentic vietnamese cuisin, and i must say this place hit tge spot! I loved everything from the home cooked meals to the legit street food, this place is special!!!
Real score 4.5 out of 5.
We loved it here. The food’s great - some traditional, some modern, some unusual. The drinks are good. The fit out is terrific. Service is attentive and efficient, too. Everything works nicely which adds up to a tremendous experience overall.
Vietnamese food had become a bit the same to me. I’ve probably been to Victoria Street and like areas too much over the years and had not looked around enough. I’d also probably not looked beyond the usual standard dishes. It’s good to get out and see what else is out there because when you do you can find impressive and innovative new places like District Mot.
It’s a great street fit out. Lots of it was done or arranged by the owner Minh who went as far as retrieving bits of wood off the street for use in the design. It’s really clever and clearly took lots of thought and effort. Having been to Ho Chi Min City, I can confirm that the fit out looks like a scene from that city.
We went nuts over the prawn and taro spring rolls here. Thin spring rolls usually means less taste to me. All crunch, no filling. These here though were absolute beauties. They were beautifully cooked. So crispy! The crispness added to the delicate prawn flavour. The taro also makes them very smooth. The dipping sauce too was seriously good too. The rolls were also so delicious with the Vietnamese mint. Our only suggestion would be to provide a little more lettuce. We adored these spring rolls. And, the dipping sauce is possibly the best we’ve ever had. Genuinely delicious.
I had a beautiful creamy mango smoothie with my meal. This was very good too. The sweetness was held back in the drink. The focus as it should was on the beautiful mango and it made for an excellent drink.
The BBQ beef skewers were crackers too. Made with a lot of care and attention and they had great flavour. I really enjoyed the mini pancake as well but my partner thought they were a tiny bit short on flavour. The blood clam were chewy too with a strong taste and a beautiful nutty sauce. I’ve not had anything quite like them before and they went wonderfully with the fish sauce. I really enjoyed them.
The comfort food dish to finish was excellent. We chose the pork belly and egg clay pot which arrived hot and bubbling at the table. The pork was cooked excellently and was so tender and flavoursome. The egg was great too. This dish had such good flavour.
District Mot was a real surprise. It seeks to deliver a different Vietnamese experience compared with places around town that only deliver the standards. It succeeds in that very well and we really enjoyed our visit. Our suggestion would be to try some of the non standard dishes here as they were wonderful.
Thank you for inviting us in.
I was invited to visit District Mot to try the food at the new sister restaurant in Rose Lane so I won’t comment on the service. The laneway is just off little Lonsdale Streets the Southern Cross Station end of town.
We started with some prawn and taro spring rolls, which were delicious. Such a a great start and a crispy treat. Yummo!
We tried some stewed caramelised pork belly and eggs in a hot pot, which was great, although a bit fatty. This was one of my favourite dishes but it needed an accompaniment so boiled rice did the trick.
We shared 3 times of Vietnamese skewers w vegetables and herbs. They were really tasty, and I really enjoyed the addition of the herbs.
Then it was onto the vermicelli cane sugar prawns w grilled chicken. This was seriously good although for me the prawns could do with some more moisture.
Overall I really enjoyed this meal and I would like to thank the owners for the invite.
First thought that came to my head was, "am I still in Melbourne?". We came here on a chilly Thursday evening and the vibes that we got from this place were surreal. Although the place presents itself as a 'street food' style environment, it is actually very warming inside.
We ordered a Rare Sliced Beef Pho, Red Curry Chicken w/bread and the Vietnamese Grilled Meat Platter. Surprisingly, the best part of the meal was the bread. Crisp, crunchy and soft in the inside, an ideal combo with the curry. If you had any choice to get anything with your dish, get the bread, you won't be disappoint. All in all, this place presents great vibes, cosy atmosphere and delicious food. All that together, is a solid "we're coming back here".
We were invited to District Mot tonight which was an upbeat restaurant with a vibrant decor and fun music playing. I sipped a coconut juice as we tried several sharing style dishes and learnt about the menu which has been designed around Vietnamese comfort food and caters to the plethora of homesick students who frequent the venue.
We chose the prawn spring rolls, beef rice paper rolls, beef lemongrass skewers and sugarcane prawns. My favourites here were probably the beef or the prawns, each item came with a delicious little dipping sauce that was full of flavour (the one accompanying the beef dish had a serious kick to it).
Next we had the crispy calamari and the Vietnamese pancake. The pancake had an interesting texture but unfortunately the little prawns inside were not deveined. We were keen on the fish cake but they had run out, it’s an extensive menu though and we almost tried the ginger chicken clay pot but opted for a dessert instead in form of the condensed milk pudding. This was a small portion so a nice light way to finish with fresh fruit and that sweet coconut flavour of the condensed milk.

We ordered -
Prawn & Taro Spring Rolls ($8.50)
Prawn & Pork Rice Paper Roll ($8)
Chicken Pho ($15)
Beef Brisket Pho ($17)
Grilled Chicken Vermicelli ($15)
Vietnamese Coffee ($4)
🍜 Food 3.5/5
- I loved the Prawn & Taro Spring rolls, especially the taste of the taro! They’re rather small but they’re good as starters.
- My Grilled Chic Vermicelli was good but a little greasy, perhaps the oil from the chicken seeped into the noodles
- Rice paper rolls were alright.
‼️ I enjoyed their Viet coffee but caffeine was strong. Not advisable to have it for dinner for those sensitive to caffeine, I had coffee jitters by night but that’s when you know it’s good coffee! 😆

Average tasting Viet food but if you get it with the Eatclub coupon, you get to feast like a King without burning a hole in your pocket.
Amazing food, I love the way they did their interior, it gives you the feeling as if your back in vietnam, the staff are very friendly and welcoming, will definitely return!
Located along rose lane in the city, district mot wasn’t as busy as a few other shops there.. The options of food was pretty good, especially the specials menu.. we ordered the pepper pork in Claypot, mini Vietnamese pancakes, knife clams and che as dessert.. the food was decent and would love to try their other specials.. the special sauce came along with the knife clam was amazing which match well with the clam..
Customer service was good too, overall a good experience and might come back for a quick dinner..

A cute lil Vietnamese eatery.
The place is pretty cute, not too big but not crampy. Staffs were nice though it's bit hard to flag someone as it was busy and they seemed understaffed. Food also took some time, especially our second order because they mistakenly gave our dish to someone else and it was their last one, so we changed our order. It was disappointing, but again mistake was possible.
The beef skewer was quite good. I love the seasoning and peanut sauce, as well as the vermicelli and leaves. I do think the beef had a tad bit of powdery texture so I'd probably go with something else next time.
Their sweet and sour soup with prawn and fish was enjoyable too. It was good portion, and the soup was surprisingly tasty. The fish was well cooked though the prawns were a bit tough and not succulent.
Overall though, I would come back and try their other dishes because I think they have good potential.

We ordered Pork & Prawn Salad, Vietnamese pancakes, Vietnamese mini pancakes and Beef hotpot. Strongly recommend trying the salad and the hotpot.
The food was pretty fresh, need a little bit intensive seasoning though in my opinion.
Interesting ambiance, quiet and comfortable, great for those who wanna find some ‘Vietnamese coziness’.
District Mot brings to the table a unique Vietnamese dining experience inspired by both street food and home-cooked comfort food. You've got your usual Vietnamese fare as well as the unfamiliar (but somewhat familiar). The layout mimics district one in Ho Chi Minh City, hanging wires and street murals, oddly it said "Ohsso" which is a Korean restaurant and they seem to have some sort of partnership. That however did not detract from the food's authenticity.
With EatClub it had a significant 40% reduction on the final price, which brings it down (at times cheaper) than suburban prices, so get in quick to take advantage of the bargain. My che ba mau (three colour drink) was pretty huge, it's pretty standard and if anything, I thought the coconut cream was a bit thick.
To start we had some sugar cane prawns, wrap it up with lettuce, herbs and vermicelli and you're good to go. I have a high ceiling when it comes to sugar cane prawns and these were decent and bouncy, give it a drowning in fish sauce and gnaw on the sugarcane afterwards (sorry for the mess).
We've had our share of lemongrass chilli chicken and this too was okay, it would have benefited with more of the aforementioned ingredients to give it that extra oomph, some onions would give it another dimension.
We also got their vinegar beef hotpot designed to be eaten in a DIY format. They've got a nice rice paper rack (I really need to get one for home) where you moisten the rice paper and add various garnishes (lettuce, cucumber, herbs, pineapple, vermicelli). To prepare the beef you cook it slightly (shabu shabu style) in the cauldron to infuse your beef with the vinegar. Be sure not to overload it, wrap it up tightly and dunk it into your shrimp paste based sauce. Pungent and packs a punch. Staff were lovely showing the ropes to the uninitiated.
The menu is quite extensive to sample everything and I felt we could have done a better job in our food selections. The potential is there and it fills that void in the market in Vietnamese street food, bonus points for that. Major food regret was not having any of their shellfish which makes a perfect combination with some beer. I can imagine this place running riot at night.
We discovered this place via EatClub app with a 40% discount! It’s a hidden little gem serving authentic and home-style Vietnamese cuisine, with dishes you can’t find elsewhere!
We tried a variety of dishes here, and the ‘comfort food’ section is one of their specialties! Our waiter was so kind and patient, and was happy to go through the menu and give us recommendations.
We started off with the Prawn and Taro Spring Rolls which were quite nice. They’re quite small and thin but very crispy, though not much filling! Plenty of lettuce to wrap and a nice fish sauce to dip with!
The Vietnamese Mini Pancake was next and this was one of my favourites! The pancake is crispy on the outside and soft inside, and very very flavourful. Again, wrap it in salad and dip it in pickled fish sauce and it is heaven!
For the BBQ section, we tried the Pork Skewer and the Sugar Cane Prawn. Both were super delicious and very tender, and I loved the woven vermicelli too!
And finally for our mains, we had the Fish Claypot and the Pork Belly & Egg Claypot, along with two servings of rice. Definitely the highlight of the night - both claypots were exceptional! The fish was tender and flavourful, and the pork belly was melt-in-your-mouth! It’s perfect when you eat it with rice and it makes the perfect warming meal on a cold night. The only thing I can point out is that I wish the portions were a little bit bigger!
Of course, we also had to try the 3 Colour Che, which was delicious. The coconut was very creamy and the drink was overall well balanced.
Definitely recommend checking this place out, especially if you can score the discount on EatClub!
FEELS! This place is tucked away in the CBD. We ordered clay pot chicken & lemongrass and the pork chop broken rice. The clay pot dish was a standout. The sauce was beautiful! I wouldn’t hesitate to come back to this place and try their other dishes. Service if great and cute deco. Best part of this restaurant: they play 90’s rnb music. Just took me down memory lane while eating delicious food !
Favourite!! Every dish I've tried has been so homely and flavorful and authentic 💕 i especially love that they serve snails and other delicacies!!
Top recommendations: fish claypot, beef jerky salad, moon snails (thai style), goat hot pot.
If District Mot sold a membership, I'd buy it.
Ordered the "hot pot" which turned out to be a diy vietnamese roll experience. Food was good, and service was good as well. However, do not order this if you're tight on time. Would recommend and come back again.
Really welcoming, friendly and attentive staff. Delicious food, had the clay pot chicken and banana Che, yum yum. Will definitely go back. Quite unique interior.
Found this via a very generous offer on Eatclub. The restaurant is situated in a small lane near Southern Cross with beautiful settings like double story houses in small laneway of Saigon. I recommend that the recipe should be improved, for instance, the braised cat fish should be darker, more caramelised, thicker. However, service is is great
Ordered takeaway. Food is fresh, large portion and flavorful.
I ordered the sweet and sour soup. LOVE! highly recommend this for someone wanting a pho alternative. Also a lot more prawns in this than I expected. I think I counted a total of 5!!
I also ordered the chicken salad. delicious, fresh and lots of flavour.
Last thing I ordered was the basa fish rice paper roll. This is the only thing I was disappointed with and would not order again. Fish was small and fried. Rice paper roll was not flavorful, expected more variety of veggie and herbs. Next time will try the other flavours
Will definitely return and try their grilled meats and comfort food dishes
I found this cute little place on EatClub as I live locally. I have been here 3 or 4 times now and tried a few different things on the menu. With quite a few other Vietnamese options close by, this is my new favourite Vietnamese place in the CBD.
The food is delicious, especially the Shaken Beef. Everything I have tried has been excellent. I highly recommend the food. As well as the food, the service from the staff is always consistently on point. Always greeted by happy smiles and politeness.
I am already looking forward to my next visit.

Found this restaurant on EatClub and got a huge discount - so it ended up being a very cheap meal.
We got the BBQ Beef Skewers, Vegan Spring Rolls and a Vietnamese Pancake. All were extremely fresh and tasty but we both thought the beef skewers were the highlight.
The restaurant itself is lovely and quaint, located in a small laneway in the centre of the CBD.
Found on Eatclub, I came here for lunch with a work colleague.
A small restaurant located in a small laneway off Lonsdale st that offered indoor and outdoor seating.
We tried the mixed grill and mixed seafood grill and with each platter it comes with 3 different kinds of skewers and salad. The meats are seasoned and cooked well. It'll would be nice if they provided more lettuce since 2 pieces is not enough to wrap all the skewers.
The 3 coloured drink/dessert was really good. One of the better ones available in the cbd
Visually pleasing this quaint little venue. Located down an alley The Dear Luncher had never ventured down before. Service left a little to be desired to begin with, but the food sampled certainly did satisfy. Flavoursome.
The sliced beef pho ticked all required boxes. A very appealing broth, good meat levels and plenty of garnishes. Worth a return visit to see how they manage other Viet dishes.
3.5/5.
Newly fitted out place, tiny yet cosy and extremely clean.
Got the meat skewers and sliced beef pho.
Meat skewers were interesting and were served on lemon grass sticks instead of your usual wooden sticks. The peanut sauce that accompanied the dish was spot on!
The pho was generous in its meat fillings but other than that, it wasn’t anything special.
Will still visit this place to try out other items on the menu!
Took advantage of the Eat Club app again and came here for lunch today. The lunch menu consists mainly of rice, vermicelli and rice noodle dishes with a few other options as well. We ordered the chicken pho and Hoi An chicken rice, as I have tried both of these in Vietnam and they absolutely blew me away. I wouldn’t say the flavors here blew me away as well but the taste still came fairly close. The chicken rice was more delicious than the pho because personally I thought the broth lacked a bit of aroma and depth. The portion size was actually quite generous and a lot of chicken was put in it. Also ordered spring rolls and two glasses of house tap beers, now these are like the cheap “bia hoi” (fresh draft beer) that you find at street stalls in Hanoi, and at $4 a glass although it is not potent, is good enough for cooling down on a hot day. The spring rolls were thin and lightly fried, but nothing exciting. Like their interior as it reminds me a lot of Vietnam and the service was friendly and speedy.
This place has become my regular lunch spot. Chicken rice and spring rolls are very good. Will try other dishes in future and I have to write more words just to reach the silly 140 words minimum limit.
- Delicious food that packed loads of flavour
- Excellent variety of dishes (must try the snails)
- Generous portions
- Friendly customer service
- Fair prices
What more can you ask for?
Would recommend/10
I’ve been to District Mot a few times for lunch now and I really like the menu. I like that they have more home style dishes such as Sweet and sour soup and Bo kho! Their dinner menu looks pretty delicious too! My only concern was that the food takes awhile to come out. My last dish Bo kho took 30 mins :( There was only 1 other table with 2 people! BUT the kho was really tasty! Also this is a small thing but it would be good to have a round soup spoon for pho! It’s nice to see more Vietnamese places around in Melbourne.
Wonderful meal, everything was reasonably priced and there were exotic seafood (snails and scissor clams) and comfort food such as the fish claypot (not pictured). We also had goat hotpot with one of my favourite asian veges (茼蒿) which I don't know the English name for. Only thing is that the dishes are quite salty. Would highly recommend!
Consistently decent Vietnamese food. Pho soup is good and a nice selection of dishes that are a bit different to usual. Rice paper rolls are great too. And the decor with the painted wall makes you feel like you’re eating in Vietnam! It’s a little hidden on Rose Lane but go find it!
Very yummy and friendly service.
Pipis the best! Nice and fresh, great flavour.
Mini pancakes and chicken feet nice and crispy.
I had small chicken pho with Vietnamese coffee today for 18$. The store ambience is creative and artistic, with open windows, pedestrian crossing painting and street painting on the wall. The chicken is tender and tasty, the soup taste light and lack of flavor. The Vietnamese mint and mung bean sprout is a little. The coffee is full of ice and less coffee. Overall is a little pricey and the pho is lack of taste.

Service was pretty much non existence and there were no other tables occupied.
The 3 coloured drink/dessert was really good. One of the better ones available in the cbd
I’m in love with the bbq pork skewers here. They are a definite 5/5 dish and the sauce is delicious. A must order. Price is very good at this venue and the decor is great, and accompanied by good service.
I go to this restaurant so often. I tried nearly all dishes. The portion is quite enough, actually a lot lol. I can take away some for next day lunchbox :) thanks guys for providing me nice food and service all the time :)
