On the busy stretch of Chapel Street it's always nice to find somewhere comfortable to have a coffee. Amba is a lovely little cafe run by fabulous staff who are friendly and helpful. I really enjoyed the vibe, as it was relaxed but still modern, with plenty of natural light and a pretty decor.
I didn't really get to look at the menu as I just popped in for coffee. It was excellent, as was the delicious carrot cake that I had with it. Service was also really good, and I can see why Amba is so popular with locals.
Great location. Yummy food which comes out quick and great service. Coffee is amazing. Nice outdoor area in the back which is quiet and easy to find.
Meal: Brunch
Ordered: Super Green and The Veggie Hunter
We visited Amba for Brunch and were treated to a delicious vegetarian (not veg but decided to try something different!) friendly meal. Both healthy meals were delicious and not too heavy so we felt great after! The coffee was well made too. Good food, fast service, great decor and a very friendly environment. A must try place if you are in South Yarra!
Food was very good. My french toast was cooked to perfection, and even better it was quite a different style of french toast. I always like something new and when restaurants do something different from the usual way. The poached pear was absolutely delicious, the additional spice flavour made the dish alive and even more flavourful.
The matcha latte was quite good as well as I always like cafes that use pure matcha, not the ones with sugar in them.
Oh My Gosh!!! Yum yum oh so Delicious
This place is across of our living so it makes us easy to visiting them. I love their coffee and Almond Muffin. Very soft and yummy.
The place atmosphere was definitely place you want to visit for some morning Idea.
Don’t come after lunch or else you got nothing left
$$
I ordered the Lemon chicken burger and the banana smoothie. It was ok. The decorations and the atmosphere in the store is really good. Probably gonna go there again
Yummy place for breakfast!
Definitely head in if you are in the area!!!
I like the vibe of the venue it's been really well designes!! and food is on point! :)
We will be back for sure
Brunch Time with something special
I walked around chapel street and visited to cozy’s cafe.
I ordered some things new on the menu “Amba soft shell crab croissant” which it is sound great!!!
When the dish served in front of me, it is looks amazing! BIG CRAB that I’ve ever met also great mayo Tom-yum is juicy and sour.
Coffee always great!
It’s worth it!!!
Great cafe, my friend and I wanted to sit out in the sun and Amba was a good choice for us. My latte was really good and my friend enjoyed her chai latte. Didn't look at a menu so not sure what the food is like. I'd happily come past again for coffee.
The best coffee on chapel . Staff very friendly nice pancake and French toast .somking garden are awesome very nice cafe . My girlfriend love AMBAs foods
The food was good here but what I really liked was just kicking back in the courtyard on a nice day. It's a really cool little space.
Food-wise, since I'm already in the property market I got the smashed avo. Didn't blow me away, I think it might've been the small amount of goat's cheese or something. Pretty small portion as well.
The other 2 in the group spoke highly of their meals though, and the fomo was real as I eyed off their plates.
Would've given it a 3.5 but the look & comments of the other meals bumps it up to a 4
It was one fine day and we wanted to embrace the nice day by having a cup of mocha.
We didn't notice that there is a small cafe called "Cafe Amba" right in front of the Jam Factory.
We came to the cafe and the interior design was neat, modern, fancy look and feel.
The customer staff was very friendly and attentive. The ambience of the cafe was relaxing.
They also have the outdoor spot which will be great to have breakfast / lunch in the summer time.
We ordered a mocha, hot chocolate (50%, 60% dark chocolate & river salt, 70% original dark by Mörk) for $4.20.
Mörk is actually Melbourne based Chocolate Brew House and it's considered as one of the best in Melbourne.
The price for a cup of mocha was average for a brunch place but it was definitely worth it for this quality.
The mocha had a great taste; The chocolate was pretty smooth when you drink it.
Overall, we had a great time having mocha in this cafe.Next time we'll be back to try their breakfast / lunch menu and see how it goes.
Yay : Mocha was absolutely fantastic

Very friendly and welcoming staff. Finally a strong coffee!!! Great breakfast. Good portion sizes. With the front door open it was a little cold, plus the heater could be on. But overall a very nice little spot on Chapel St!
Came here with my friends on Good Friday. It rescued our morning with good food and delicious chips. We like the pancake here. The burger is just average.
South Yarra’s Chapel Street has always been known for its densely populated retail stores, but in recent times, cafes and restaurants are starting to share the spotlight in this fashion-forward part of town. Take Cafe AMBA, for example. A narrow-spaced cafe enhanced by natural light streaming through the front and back, with an emphasis on the colour gold cementing their place amongst neighbouring fashionista stores.
The Amba Breakfast is a good standard dish consisting of eggs your way, mushrooms, hash browns, spinach, Roma tomato and grilled haloumi. The mushrooms had some rosemary seasoning which is always a good sign of effort. The bacon was not anything amazing, but the crispy and oiliness made it enjoyable to eat as it wasn’t dry or chewy. The chorizo was a bit too spicy for my tastes!
I was invited to visit Amba for lunch and despite the less than desirable weather, I found it somewhat comforting to be under the shelter with probably one of the most amusing characters I have met thus far. Being a soft spoken individual that I am, I seek solace in cafes that enable me to carry out conversations without needing to raise my voice too much. Kai and his team were quite attentive towards us and made us feel very much at home in our little corner. Having a bouquet of freshly plucked pink lilies nearby was bonus too.
For a cafe located on chapel st there is plenty of competition but Amba definitely does hold it's own. Was a good hearty breakfast and scored a seat out front on a nice Melbourne day. If you're in the area and don't wanna wait half a day to have breakfast give this place a go.
Located in an ideal position on Chapel Street, AMBA is a lovely place to stop for brunch. Seating extends throughout the café and into an outside courtyard area. Upstairs is also very pleasant and can even be used as a function room. The service is attentive and friendly and the coffees are worth trying. Their menu covers all the usual brunch suspects with lots of options for the more health conscious. Prices are reasonable and food is delicious. Would recommend trying out!
Great lace very warm and happy to help staff . Coffee great and on the money. Food was lovely too and quick very well priced too Yes yes yes great place will be back
Such a beautiful space and lovely staff. EDIT: I have now tried the food and if you're after simple (non hipster) meals then this place is great (ie nice to be able to go to a cafe and get a bowl of chips for your child) and the coffee and little afternoon treats are good.
This cafe is very kid friendly with high chairs as well as a change table in a very clean bathroom.
Cafe Amba has been on my list for a while now and as soon as I saw it's new menu it shot right to the top. I ordered the banana and pistachio bread French toast with maple syrup, strawberries, hazelnuts and marscapone. So delicious!!! Definitely one of the best French toast offerings in Melbourne.
The coffee was perfect. Literally. It was smooth. Flavours were bold and forward with great depth of flavour and a hint of aftertaste. Whatever this house blend is, it’s pretty amazing and I’d happily drink it like water. Best coffee in South Yarra and the barista is definitely on par with Brother Bubba Budan.
We were recently invited by Cafe Amba to come and dine at their newish cafe, opened in January this year and located literally opposite the Jam Factory in South Yarra. We loved the decor as soon as we entered. A lot of cafes these days are going for that hipster feel with the brick walls and wooden furnishings however Cafe Amba had that plus the additional touch of glamour with modern hanging lights against a mirror backdrop making it quite the feature when you walk through. It was very pretty. There is also a back room and a little courtyard however on this occasion we were seated indoors. This was fine by us as it has been pretty chilly lately in Melbourne!
We were provided with the menus with included all day breakfast (yay!) and a separate menu outlining their specials for the day. We ended up ordering most of the items on the specials which included the Open Face Chef Omelette. This had bacon, kipfler potato, chilli and chives served open with toasted Roma tomatoes. I loved that the omelette had chunky bits of the different ingredients. It was also a very generous portion. We shared the cauliflower soup served with a dash of basil pesto and toast. The soup was delicious and again the bowl was huge! I could have had it on its own as a meal.
Davin ordered the salmon and prawn linguine which also had broccoli, onion, tomato, spinach and garlic in Napoli sauce. Now this was the highlight dish for us because the linguine was cooked to perfection, the salmon and prawns were fresh and the flavour of the sauce complimented the dish so well because it was not overly seasoned but just light and delicious. It was gobbled up pretty quickly!
We also finished up with some seasonal fruit salad with natural yoghurt and honey. I got my usual latte which was good and served with the right temperature. We also ordered some fresh juices with our meals. After being served the first couple of dishes, staff asked us if we wanted to move to a larger table to fit all our dishes which was fine by us. This normally happens with most places after they realise we’ve ordered food for more than the average couple! So we moved to the back room which had a lovely feature wall of flowers and plants painted directly onto the wall to finish our meal. It was very pretty.
Overall the food was really good, the staff were very friendly and accommodating and I loved the decor of the cafe. We will definitely be back!

Very nice place. The service was very slow though, we sat at the back and no one came to get our orders for a good while and then we decided to move to the front. The food defenitley made up for it, we got the Amba breakfast and the breakki burger. The sausages, spinach, hash browns and the mushrooms were absolutely amazing. The burger was also quite good. Definitely will be back for the big breakki.
Love this place! The best place along Chapel Street and it absolutely smashes anything else in the area!
I suggest that everyone tries their coffee and have a look at their burgers. I was a big fan of their fries!
One word: Coffee Heaven!
My dining companion decided to have the ‘Supreme Chicken Burger – toasted brioche, marinated chicken breast strip, baby cos lettuce, tomato, smashed avocado and chipotle aioli served with chips and tomato sauce ($16.00)’. This was a gigantic burger with plenty of smashed avocado and tender chicken strips.
Cafe Amba is located on bustling Chapel Street in South Yarra’s shopping precinct and serve a range of popular cafe dishes. The light timber interior is fitted out with hanging greenery, exposed brick and statement metallic gold lighting, giving Cafe Amba a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

Located in the heart of Chapel Street in South Yarra stands a cafe called Amba. They’re the new kids on the block and have only been around for a few months.Another cafe you say, but if you need to get away from all the hustle and bustle, just take a step inside Amba. I was invited to dine by Amba cafe and all opinions expressed are my own.
When you step into Amba, you’re transported to a tranquil cafe where you can’t’ even hear the cars drive past out in front. The interior is very simple but very beautifully designed, very minimal - so very charming.
Expensive Delicious Habit.

I ordered their lunch special of the day - a seafood risotto with prawns, calamari, broccoli and chilli. It was topped with a grilled piece of Atlantic salmon ($23). It is not often a risotto came also with a piece of fish on top so there was a plentiful abundance about it. The risotto rice was creamy and cooked perfectly. A little hit of chilli was a clever addition to counter the creaminess. I really enjoyed it.
South Yarra – the land of chap laps and pressed juice aficionados gets a golden touch. Cafe Amba opens in the bustling shopping precinct, its golden sign glistening amongst the ho-drum Melbourne winter. Head chef , Tiwa, originally from Thailand, has years of experience manning the kitchen. A floral background adds a feminine touch to lashings of gold, suspended greenery and a light timber interior. The winter menu concentrates on comfort foods: burgers, pastas and breakfast classics. Amongst the ever-flowing cascade of new brunch openings, does Cafe Amba stand out amongst the crowd?
AMBA on Chapel Street is a cosy oasis tucked away from the blistery cold - with its modern lighting, sporadic greenery and wooden features, this breakfast/brunch venue is both trendy and inviting. Eggs benedict isn't usually the most beautiful dish on the menu, but somehow AMBA managed to take the cake. The eggs were poached perfectly, the salmon generous and the hollandaise sauce was rich and creamy - delicious!
Oh how I adore Chapel street – the hub of shopping and dining, traversing the south east suburbs of Melbourne. The thoroughfare is known for the gaudy parade of “Chap Laps”, also known as “Laps of Chaps”. Personally, I’m more drawn to the cool cafés, bars and restaurants that continue to pop up along this whimsical walk.

Café AMBA is no exception. This little gem couples old charm with modernity, revealing exposed brick walls, wooden furnishings and accents of rose gold. Scattered pot plants and alfresco dining in the courtyard keep the vibe crisp, with smooth R'n'B tunes to set the mood. Yas Drake, yasss.
Upon arrival, the friendly folk here greet you with a smile. Danny, who runs the place, is always busy behind the counter whipping up coffees, with beans ethically sourced from Seven Seeds single original. Coffee lovers, you may get emotional if you're not already hyperventilating (probably from all the caffeine), but the AMBA ANGELS also offer specialty filter coffees including cold drip, Aeropress and pour over coffee. And if you're not really one for the bitter buzz, don't fret. There's plenty of Mörk hot chocolate and Prana Chai to go around, not to mention, fresh home-made juices! Try FreshJuice A: Strawberry, carrot and apple juice. YUM.
The seasonal menu guarantees fresh produce with a rotating selection of dishes to keep your taste buds guessing. The Breakfast burger will remedy the most heinous of hangovers and hungers, with bacon, fried egg, rocket, tomato, cheddar, tomato relish and hash brown nestled in a toasted brioche bun. You can go hardcore, like me, and order extras like a few more hash browns, some baked beans and sauteed spinach on the side. Why not though?
If you're after something sweet and perhaps lighter, I recommend you try the Mixed Berries French Crepes, with warm mixed berries compote, fresh strawberries and optional vanilla ice-cream plonked on top, too.
So if you want it all - fashion, food and fabulous service - check out AMBA on Chapel Street and say hi to Danny for me :)

Cafe AMBA is a Chapel Street newbie, opening in January this year. The snazzy interior is full of exposed brick and pale timbers, and the cafe also boasts a courtyard area and upstairs function space
Great coffee, service and decor! Cafe looked clean and well kept. Lots of options for brekkie and lunch. Courtyard looks inviting. Finally this end of chapel street has a decent coffee place!
Always serving great seven seeds coffee! The owner always has a smile on his face.
The gnocchi is a great tasty lunch option for this Autumn.
Beautiful cafe with really great coffee! Next time I'm on the south side of Melbourne I'll definitely be back. Good selection of cakes also 😊
Love this place! I come here at least 2 x per week. Staff are incredibly friendly & the coffee & chai latte is awesome. Check it out. ;)
Went to Amba when it was just opened. Was very impressed by the decor. Love the coffee and lunch was great. Will be coming back. Staffs were accommodating as I have a toddler and an infant.
