Came in for a quick bite to eat with some friends last week. While the upstairs restaurant is on the smaller side it has a lovely homey vibe. Lunch specials menu had great inclusive options so that myself and my vegan pals could all get something delicious and filling. Special shout out to the chicken soft tacos (our lovely waitress recommended the chicken when I asked and I was not disappointed). My friends enjoyed a burrito bowl each full of fresh, hearty, vegan-friendly ingredients. The shared frozen margarita bowl was too hard to say no too and a lovely addition on a hot afternoon. Will be back again soon
Don’t let the decor put you off. Best Mexican food ever. Very good price. Great service. Friendly waitress. Chiller con carne nachos amazing

Food was pretty good in general. The place has an OG mexican restaurant vibe to it. We had the street style and fish tacos to start with. The fish taco was really nice. Then followed by a sizzling plate of fajitas. It was delicious as well. We were a bit disappointed that the salsa/sour cream did not come with it and had to be ordered separately.
well located in the CBD, the place is nice and warm, the ambiance is very mexican columbian.
indoors seating only. so if you wish to ask for some food, suggest that you be clear weather you want spicy, hot or whatever, i asked for spicy and it was like a volcano bursting my mouth, but it was good, its what i asked for.
the food is fresh, very Mexican, Tacos and burritos were yummy and delicious.
a 10/10 on food but still i would rate a 4 * in terms of overall outlook , feel, food and staff overview.
staff is friendly and you get your space to eat and enjoy the food and wine, or me always a beer man.
budget the same for 50$ for 2 for a satisfactory meal.
don't ask for extra beans if you have called for the burrito. you will get rice and beans....
definately a recommended place,
a must go and surely if i am around i wouldn't hesitate to go back again.
Since I arrive in Melbourne I've been looking for a good Mexican restaurant. I can say I finally found it. Some other places like Mamasita charge too much for the tiniest plate and basically no Mexican flavour at all. Taco Bill provides a true Mexican ambience, and the food is absolutely extraordinary. We ordered La Combinacion and a Seafood quesadilla, the latter being one of the best quesadillas I've ever had. The service is fast and the flavour is great!. For the same price you pay in other "high rated" Mexican restaurants I believe this one wins the battle. ($51 for two people with a couple of beers.) It is also important to note that the food is not very spicy and the restaurant is not very big. Also, at the end of the dinner there was only one guy servicing, making the service a little bit slower.
It’s lovely for a quick casual meal and it’s good to see that they stock Negra Modelo beer. Would love to see more imported Mexican beers.
Staff were super friendly.
I've been coming to this TB since 1986 and it has always been my favourite. The prawn fajitas are always great. It's not very big but the food has always been good.
Tried this place after a long time. The prices are pretty good value for money , decor is nice and it is a cosy place . Food itself, pretty similar to what you get at food court. Worth a try when they've got specials on.
How have I not been here earlier! We ordered La Combinacion to try a bit of everything (enchilada, taco & taquito with frijoles and rice). I was surprised at how delicious the enchiladas were, they were my fave. Perfect comfort food on a cold winters night. Warm, cheesy and meaty - what more could you want! Will be back :)
The last time we came to Melbourne we walked past Taco Bill, walked in and got turned away because it was packed full, and thought it must be amazing for it to be that busy! So when we returned to Melbourne we gave it another go and got in.
Just! The whole place is tiny and absolutely cramped, which was good in a way as it added to the atmosphere. The decor was lovely, it had a very Central American feel for sure.
Service was a bit weird, the staff seemed a bit off on the night. Cocktails were WAY too sweet, it was like they added a whole heap of sugar unnecessarily. The food was good and reliable but nothing mind blowing, we had a burrito and a quesadilla and they were basically the same thing just cooked and presented differently. It was a bit disappointing really. The best bit was the complimentary corn chips!
Delicious crispy tacos with chicken and beef, the filling is fresh and the meat is juicy. We washed these down with some icy margarita and punch. Friendly staff and a cosy atmosphere, although not the most inviting entrance. Good spot for a Mexican fix.
Nice atmosphere at the CBD Taco Bills. As expected there is consistency in their food everywhere. This was no different. There was a corporate atmosphere at lunchtimes (well it's the CBD). This place had plenty of alcohol choices, long before the other Taco Bill venues started branching out into the booze scene.
Probably one of the most decent Mexican foods... not to forget about the free nachos and salsa as a welcome snack.... perfectly located and a district sitting ambience... taco was perfectly cooked and crisp... quesadilla was as good as eating in Mexico... friendly on pocket .... takes an extra notch of time to prepare but waiting is worth...!!
While Taco Bill isn't going to blow your mind it's enjoyable. I find myself here on a monthly basis whenever I catch up with my unadventurous friend who pretty much only likes commercialised Mexican food. Over the years we've honed our order and alway start with nachos and mango margaritas. They have a wide range of frozen margaritas, both alcoholic and non alcoholic. I always order several servings of flautas which are actually an entree (both chicken and beef) which are delicious dipped in sour cream. If you intend on having a big night it's fun to order the fishbowl margarita which comes with a free sombrero
The chicken enchilada is yum. They serve a special basket of tacos with a salsa, its so appetizing.
Lovely interiors and even lovelier staff. They always warn you to look out for the hot plate!!!
Drinks are so refreshing. Hve come here a countless times as this was right across my office.
It's got a lot of factors about it, that make you assume the worst. It's a chain restaurant, the decor is dated, they serve giant cocktails, and it's in a really obscure location. That being said, I was more than pleasantly impressed with my first Taco Bill experience. In a way, the textured walls and random Mexican miscellany has a certain charm to it, the way your elderly neighbour's antique collections do.
The staff have a cheery, enthusiastic disposition and are happy to translate the menu for you. By the way, any place that greets your bottom hitting their seat with corn chips has my vote. I ordered the fajitas (their No. 1 favourite!) and was delivered a wholesome set of meat and vege on a sizzling plate, tortillas and salad. I really enjoyed assembling my bites, though the chicken was better than the square-shaped beef. Was more than filling (a sore point as wanted to try the dessert) and the cocktails were pretty cheap (possibly not that potent). It's not blow your socks off amazing by any means but there's a lot of charm and a lot to like about the place to merit a visit.
Compared to modern Mexican eateries, Taco Bill doesn't offer 'authentic Mexican' cuisine or raved-about culinary skills. Their meals are fairly standard and probably pretty easy to make. But the restaurants are vibrant and even theatrical at times (what else would you expect when they hand out giant sombreros with an order for a 1.4l margarita). Oh and you're unlikely to ever to be told it is a 2 hour wait for a table too. So if you are after some clichéd Mexican food, that is tasty without pretension, then Taco Bill is a winner.
TB is the only restaurant in town that offers frozen Magaritas so we decided to order their Tropical Magarita to share. It was lovely, just like drinking a slurpie from 7eleven! The fruity flavour was fresh and acidic.
Good service, better margaritas!. We had a lovely night at Taco Bills in Russel street and its by far the best Taco Bills I've been to. The food was great and the margaritas were awesome. The service was fantastic and our waiter Oliver always made sure we had everything we needed. Would definitely go there again.
Loved the Sangria. Food very tasty and home made salsa was yuuuum. The service was exceptional, the young girl serving was one of the friendliest I've encountered. So happy we came here. Also enjoyed the very cheerful and bright atmosphere.
Festivus - really good food. To be honest didn’t expect to much (was waiting on average franchise food)
Food was actually very good
Shared three mains and smashes down Mexican beer ;)
nice vibe, prefer over Collins st one
Great service!. The meals are OK, nothing special.
However, the service is really great : friendly staff, attentive and helpful.
Not a big fan of chain restaurants, but will go back just because of this!
Simple, fast, tasty. Nothing precocious, just good eats at reasonable price. Lunch menu was very good, and just what we wanted on a cold wet day.
Great restaurant for what it is. Good food + service. The atmosphere is good and lives up to what taco bill is meant to be - a fun night to drink giant margaritas and wear giant sombreros.
Awesome service and great cheap lunch menu. We went here today for a collegues birthday lunch and had a great time. The decore and restaurant look a little dark and dingy but the service and the food really make up for that. The waitress we had (she was from Nepal) was bubbly and very attentative. The cheap lunch time menu had a great variety to choose from and catered to everyone's tastes. Can't wait to go back to this little hidden gem in the city! YUM!
Amazing! Great service and even better food. Enchiladas are delicious and had a big margarita. Highly recommended
Some friends and I went to Taco Bill on Friday. There was a short wait for a seat but the legend of an owner (Mark) offered us a beer while a table was cleared.
Our food was great, fresh and served hot. The waitress was really friendly and very patient with us which made the night all the more enjoyable.
We stayed pretty late and were never given the hurry up, staff seemed happy to let us finish our drinks while they packed up.
Thanks Marks and the team, keep up the good work. We'll be back.
Fantastic food, great drinks, best atmosphere!! I'll be coming back for my weekly Mexican fix!
Good old fashioned mexican. Food was fresh and the way Mexican should taste. Good free salsa while we ordered. Nice atmosphere. If you're sick of fried chicken lip tacos or smoked duck feet enchiladas , try here. A good simple Mexican night out.
What a pleasant find! Unsure of what we were getting ourselves into when we climbed the stairs, we were surprised to find a warm and cosy Mexican restaurant, filled with character and greeted then served by a waiter even more warm and charismatic! Excellent service; not too much hovering and everything ordered arrived on time and delicious. Great fun atmosphere. Definitely will be dining there again!!
BEST MEXICAN FOOD!. This was my first time to Taco Bill and I absolutely loved it! My girlfriends and I had an amazing time, and were taken care of by the friendly staff! We loved the fruity frozen margaritas, as they were the perfect hit on a hot summers day. I had the beef combination, whilst my friends enjoyed the hot and sizzling fajitas! The food was sensational, and full of authentic mexican flavour! I will definitely be back for more!
Friendly staffs and Fajita is a must try!
I have been to a few of the Taco Bill Restaurants but the Russel Street one has been my favourite.
The food is great. Some of the best Mexican I have had in and around melbourne. The drinks are also particularly fun.
The wait staff serivce is also very friendly and helpful.
I highly recommend taco bill on russel street for those who enjoy Mexican food and for anyone looking to try it out for the first time :)
I went here last night for dinner for a Mexican fix. Wasn't the best mex I have had, but can't complain about the food. For entree we shared a con queso frijole quesadilla. Was lovely except the Faldo and sour cream came mixed together in a jar and I would have preferred just sour cream. For main I had the chicken fajitas and they were delicious. The chicken did have a few bone bits in there that I unfortunately crunched on and would have liked a bit more guacamole, but all in all was a delicious meal
Didnt have a reservation & went with bubs in a pram. Service was very prompt, easily accommodated room for us with bubs & was friendly atmosphere. Great food, great service, great price.
I had lunch here with some friends yesterday for the first time and I'll definitely be back! Service was amazeballs, food (and drinks) were relatively cheap (especially the lunch deals) and tasted really good!
Good fun for drinks. Went here for a work function where we were extremely surprised to have a good night out at the company's expense (completely unheard of).
Work didn't supply dinner so the implicit expectation was for us to pay for dinner ourselves, but honestly, even after missing lunch for the day, the food wasn't appealing enough to justify the prices. Perhaps this was just because we had a few drinks and had several plates of finger food already supplied.
The drinks were great, and were generously served.
I'm unaware of how much the drinks and tapas cost but apparently (and presumably...) my coworkers struck a great deal.
Service was excellent.
Overall we had a great time and I'd strongly consider this place for drinks, especially when they have their 1/2 price margarita specials I hear of.
Perfectly cooked seafood, friendly service at very affordable prices. This Queenslander will come back when in Melbourne.
Good food. Me and my family have had two separate family functions for birthdays at Taco Bills. I don't know about the rest of the family but I found the food both tasty and timely prepared. This is a restaurant I would recommend to people.
Good atmosphere, good food, good service! Definitely going there again! Try the Mango Margarita!
Cheap and nice lunch time. For $9.95 we had 2 tacos and rice and my friend had a small nachos same price and the food came out so quick! Great price for CBD lunch plus unlike other places wine list actually had lots of options (all wines were available by glass) and good price $7.90 a glass.
This place is lots of fun. Cheap drinks, cozy atmosphere in a hidden stairway. The food is good but not superb, but the portion sizes are good and it is cheap. It's a good place to bring dates or a couple of friends. Since the place is a bit small, you might have trouble fitting a larger group, so try booking in advance.
It was my first time for being here and tried Mexican food and also the hottest chilli in the bottle in this place 😊🌶️🥵 Nice food, delicious, good service. The only thing that you need to take care of is the dripping air conditioner in the back that made the seat gets wet as we need to move to different seat. But overall,. This restaurant has a good service. I'll back next time, okay 👌🏻
Celebrated a friend’s birthday here. Staff were super friendly and welcoming! The birthday girl even got testers of the margaritas.
Food was really good! But i will not be ordering a fishbowl again 😂 It is huge and we wouldn’t finish it.
📷 Quesadilla Suprema Spinach, Potato & Frijoles, Burrito Bowl, Fishbowl Blue Lagoon.
Massive shout out to the amazing staff at Taco Bill's on Russell Street last night.
We came in so late, near close and they treated us to a party like atmosphere. They fed us, gave us yummy slushies and played fun tunes. We all had such a ball and it meant so much to all of us.
Thank you to the chefs and waiting staff for looking after us like family. You made a wonderful evening so perfect!
It's an institution in Melbourne. Great customer service and they were very nice to accommodate us on arrival. Tacos tasted bloody good. Nachos could be added with more guacamole, otherwise it was delicious.
Super yummy and affordable when eating out with friends! Recommend sharing a few dishes
Love the food here.
Cozy little place and mostly busy. The food is absolutely delicious. I like their Mexican slushy and they are a must try.
