My Rating: 4.5
BRIM CC is a really nice little Japanese café serving organic vegetable with their Japanese curry. There’s always long queues during lunch peak period and I often enjoy going to BRIM CC especially during winter as their meals are very hearty and tasty. At times I try to get there early to avoid the crowd, but it’s difficult as the café is so small, but regardless I prefer to dine in rather than take-away.
🔆LOCATION🔆
BRIM CC Japanese Café is situated on Little Collins Street between King and Spencer Street, very close to Southern Cross train station. The café is small with limited seating. Most people who dine-in literally just eat and go due to the queue of customers waiting for a seat. Often people decide to get take-away rather than wait for a seat. But as I have to travel a fair distance from my office, I prefer to dine-in.There’s a lot of customers that leave little messages and notes, mostly written on napkins and the staff has placed them on the wall which is a nice touch.
🔆SERVICE🔆
If you haven’t been to BRIM CC, you may possibly be overwhelmed with the list of different combination options they have on the menu. The Japanese staff are very friendly, helpful and very efficient. The queue to order does move quite quickly, so you don’t be put off. Once order, you get an order number. When your order is ready your order number will be called. If you like more soup options, its best to arrive earlier, as when they run out then your very limited in choices.
🔆MENU/PRICE🔆
I’ve been here a number of times and have mostly ordered the following options: Half Curry & Rice, Soup Set, $14.40(their soup options changes quite frequently and they will advise you what soup is available)Half Curry & Rice, Salad Set, $11.40(salad options include teriyaki chicken salad, tofu salad, potato mayo salad)Homemade Tokyo style curry & Rice, $9.90(organic vegetable stock with sweet vegetable curry)BRIM CC Bento Box, $12.90(includes 3 different Onigiri – triangular rice balls, grilled eggplants, marinated carrots, vegetable ball, and potato salad)
🔆VERDICT🔆
On my most recent visit I ordered the half curry & rice with soup set. I like this option because both servings of the soup, and the curry rice is really good portions and I’m always full afterwards. I love their purple rice and the curry is also very light and flavourful, sometimes I do think they have too much of the sauce though.
On days when I’m super hungry I go for the BRIM CC Bento Box, its decent serving and it definitely fills me right up in includes 3 different Onigiri – triangular rice balls, grilled eggplants, marinated carrots, vegetable ball, and potato salad. Sometimes I think its also good option to order to share with another person and then get a soup or curry rice to share. All in all BRIM CC is a really nice café to have home-cooked style organic Japanese food.
Our score 4.0 stars (avg of lots of visits). J picked up takeaway dinner from here on Wed 13th Nov. Quick & lovely service.
Vego curry ($9.80) – Same as usual, maybe a bit more carrot (nice). A lot of sauce, not a huge amount of veg, but very filling!
Chicken Katsu curry don ($12.80) – Similar to Veg curry but with onion & crumbed chicken (which is submerged in curry sauce, so not crunchy – but still tasty). Wouldn’t get again though!
Oct 2018. Have been getting takeaway from here for years. We usually have Chicken & tomato curry/Vego curry. Chicken is free range! Vego is basically chunky root vegetables – both dishes very filling. Accompanying mixed rice has good texture. Plenty of nice curry sauce, which can be a bit samey when you have these two together, but it is such comfort food! Service staff are ALWAYS nice & ordering in the afternoon (before catching the train nearby) means you avoid the lunch rush. Good value too!

Verdict: Consistent quality, Organic Veggie
BrimCC has one of the best Japanese curry in Melbourne. It's affordable, tasty, healthy and quick so it's always a nice lunch option.
All meal sets and combos have lots of veggies and really healthy. The veggies, both salad and cooked, are always really fresh and you can really taste the natural goodie flavours in it. It is really hard to find nowadays as well.
Great soups and curries in a simple no-fuss setting. Warm your soul with hot Chicken Curry and rice on a cold winter day. Can be crowded during lunchtime on weekdays and difficult to find seats inside.
I love Brim CC for their interesting, wholesome menu and reasonable prices. On past visits, I've had the veg curry over whole grain rice and tried some of my friend's soba salad. Both feature classic flavour profiles and quality ingredients and were above average in taste.
Most recently, I strayed away from my normal order and got the salad combo with bread. I chose potato and tofu as they were the two best sounding vegetarian options, and they ended up pairing wonderfully. The potato salad was a massive serve, made with mayo and mustard and topped with a hard boiled egg. It was extremely filling to the point where I felt a bit sick after eating it, but at least it a sticks to your ribs. Meanwhile, the tofu salad was very nice and fresh and light and served with a soy dressing. The best way to eat this dish is to take the sourdough, spread potato salad onto it and top with salad leaves. 👌
Heads up: If you're visiting during lunchtime, keep in mind that you may have to wait for a seat.

Finally went to try this Japanese eatery after so long. There were not many seats but the ambiance was fine. Staffs were nice and food didn't take long.
Of course I went with their curry, specifically the tomato and chicken (requested half size for 7.9). I actually really enjoyed the curry as it was not too spicy and the chicken and tomato was a good combo, however I find it too salty, especially when it drowned my rice so I had a hard time eating it.
My sis' vege curry she also found too salty but I tried and it was less salty than mine.
I feel like the ultimate solution would be separating the rice and the curry so we can adjust the intensity of the flavour.
Overall though, very affordable and hearty meal that I would highly recommend separating their curries from their rice or using a plate instead of a bowl even for their half size.

This is where I chose to come for lunch for
My first day back working in the city. I have really missed this place or more importantly the chicken curry that is produced here. I’ve never actually eaten in b causes it’s a little bit squishy and always full but today I was fortunate not to have to queue. Half serve chicken curry is enough for me for lunch. Mild organically produced curry base and a generous amount of chicken. Tasted as good as I remembered. Glad I got reacquainted.
This place is bliss. This is my comfort zone. I love the food here and I feel my soul is nourished. Come here. Be kind to the staff. If you come at a busy time you might not get a table.
It's a shame that BrimCC only opens on weekdays. I bet they'd do a roaring trade on weekends if the weekday crowd is anything to go by.
I had the half size curry and salad set while my side kick had the organic soup salad set. All their ingredients were organic and this was certainly obvious in the taste and freshness of their offerings. The curry had the right amount of umaminess while the salads were healthily tasty.
Will definitely make the effort to come into town during the week in the future just to try their other items.
I got the chicken curry don and an omurice for takeaway, both of them came with the same small side salad. The food here is very fresh, healthy and homey. The curry was more subtle than the usual Japanese curry you get elsewhere but it was tasty and the chicken was tender. It came with red rice which I love. The omurice also came with red rice. It was a little on the sweet side for me but I think this may be how it is supposed to be. The salad was crisp and lightly dressed.
😱Lizzie’s first impression: this cafe is small but situated in a strip full of yummy foods.
🍩Lizzie enjoyed: the best selling dish would be the katsu curry - it is not only delicious but very affordable. It is perfect for a cold winters day and the flavours are delicious.
🍅Lizzie did not enjoy: Its really small so you’ll have to come in before peak hour especially on Fridays.
🥇Lizzie rates overall: takeaway is always an option - this place is great for a quick bite.
The queue was almost out the door which is always a good sign. I went for the free range chicken curry with rice which looked like a decent portion size (based on the people sat around me). It took a while, and at about the 15 minute mark I thought perhaps I had made a bad decision. But it finally arrived, and it was really bloody good! The curry was not gluggy and had a few carrots thrown in for good measure. Would do it again but perhaps time it a little better.
This is more of a 4.5 stars. We saw that this place had a really good rating on Deliveroo despite its small and simple menu, so we decided to see what all the fuss was about. We ordered a chicken and tomato curry don, and beef don.
The pros: the meals offered for delivery were only a subset of their dine in menu, but they were cheap ($10-$12) and generous. Like, really huge. If you're a student and only care about the quantity of food you get, you'd probably be pretty happy with this meal. The curry also tastes great, there was enough of it for the large amount of rice, and they mixed in a little bit of black (or red?) rice in with the white rice. Both the chicken and beef they used were also very nicely prepared - slow cooked, chunky and falls apart delicately, not the mince that you'll find in most Japanese curries.
The cons: there really wasn't enough meat in the curry, even for the price. Most of the time you'd be eating curry, rice and little bits of root vegetables sprinkled inside, which is ok because it's tasty, but none of those ingredients cost much. Being more generous with the meat would have made it a 5 stars from me. Another minor point was that some of the rice was clumpy and soggy, but I didn't find it a big deal overall.
Great option for no-fuss, large portions of food at a great price.
Had the chicken curry and it was very tasty, and chicken pieces are tender too. Love the unique mixed grain rice. Gave it 4 stars as it doesn’t taste any much different from other Japanese curries tl be honest.
Brim CC is a no-frill Japanese restaurant that serves up a range of home-cooked comfort meals, including their famous curries, which you can have paired with a salad or a soup; omurice, udon and the like.
I feel lucky that I have book marked this place and being extra lazy after work.
I had their tomato chicken curry rice. And let’s be honest, it doesn’t rock but it’s comforting. No word can describe it better than ‘comforting’. Everything in that bowl just makes my whole dining experience become a cosy dinner at home where I can lay back, put one of my legs on the chair and take my time to enjoy a freshly cooked meal.
The taste is so clean, hearty and not too salty. Almost every time after I have a curry outside, I got this long lasting thirst that filling myself with water doesn’t help. But today it was totally pleasant afterwards. The curry is quite watery but thanks to this, the rice is covered well. I’m surprised I like it that way more. It just means that they don’t add or add just a very minimal amount of flour or starch to thicken their curry sauce (yep, it works exactly like how you make your gravy). I like their rice as well, it’s soft and a bit over cooked, just like how my grandma always made at home because her teeth are weak 😂 and we all have to be on the same page with her.
I like how simple but meaningful the decoration is. The walls are covered with hand made arts and messages from diners. I intentionally sat next to the wall to take a closer look at them. Not too surprised that most of them are made on tissues. They got a bunch of white, cloud- like patches on the other wall that later on I just realized it’s the map shape of Japan as I read through the local food profiles. Funny at the first glance I thought it’s what’s left after Halloween.
And I like the fact that I didn’t have to rush to finish my meal. Relaxing Japanese tunes and minimalistic ambiance just set the pace. While eating I thought I’m gonna give it a 4 but when I was about to go home, the chef uncle who was having a break behind the counter also stood up and said thanks to me ☺️. I can’t help telling him that the food was nice. He smiled with his eyes and thank me again in Japanese (Alligator something ((((: ).
3.5
Nothing fancy to see here. In fact the chicken tomato curry looked like it was drowning in the curry sauce and I had my doubts about it. However, the taste blew me away. It wasn't groundbreaking but what it did was convey the feel of eating a home-cooked meal. Hearty, comforting and full of goodness. Balanced in flavour, and generous with the pieces of chicken throughout.
The Locomoco (what a cute name) was the weaker dish, but just as delicious. The beef meatball was moist, tender and beautifully seasoned. The dish, however, was on the drier side and could benefit from more gravy. The rice was a bit too mushy for my liking but that's just the way it is supposed to be.
Affordable, and filling, BrimCC was a pleasant discovery for me.
This is my favourite everyday dinner place. If I need take away during the week, or can’t be stuffed cooking, I go here. The food is always amazing. Comforting home-style Japanese dishes that are such awesome value and always tasty and filling.
My two go-tos off the menu: The Tokyo Bento ( you will crave the potato salad and the meatball all the time after trying this) and the chicken curry. The chicken curry is the best Japanese curry I’ve tried in the city, and I have tried heaps. It is a healthier version than your traditional brown roux-based Katsu curry, and it tastes like a hug.
The staff are so friendly, and the owner is so caring and thoughtful!
This isn’t a fancy place for a date or to impress someone, the interior is cosy yet simple - however, if you want a great value, delicious dinner then this is it.
My score 4 stars. Have been getting takeaway from here for years. We've just moved back to Melb & J picked some up for dinner after being in the CBD yesterday. We usually only order from here in cooler weather, as the curries are so hearty, but we wanted to get reacquainted with our "old friend". We had our usual Chicken & tomato curry/Vego curry. Chicken is free range which means both of us can enjoy it (& we do). Vego is basically chunky root vegetables & is very filling. Accompanying mixed rice has good texture. Plenty of nice curry sauce, which can be a bit samey when you have these two together, but it is such comfort food 🙂. Service staff are ALWAYS nice & ordering in the afternoon (before catching the train nearby) means you avoid the lunch rush. Good value too!
Rate 4.5; Was an awesome eat, small location on the Southern Cross end of Little Collins. Ordered the Beef curry with rice and the amount of curry they gave was really good. The sauce was amazing, not as salty as others I've tried. Rice was a mixed grain and was tasty. Place is small so it might hard to get a seat but many people do takeaway.
Great little location for some nice hot Japanese curry! Good portion sizing and I love the daily special soup. So far my favourite soup is the meatball soup. Reminds me of the time when my grandma used to make me such healthy and delicious soup.
Food: 4/5
Service: 3.5/5
Ambiance: 2/5
Great Japanese place. Simple curries and salads. Food is organic and the place is always busy. Got there 11:50 and beat the crowds coming 10 min later. Highly recommend for a quick lunch.
I’ve tried majority of the dishes here and I have to say I’m impressed with the quality of food they serve at this place. I love their Japanese curry with extra broccoli, corn and cheese or If you like you can have a half-half meal combo, such as soup and rice curry or salad and rice curry. Another favourite is the Tokyo Bento, a more traditional set meal that consist of 3 rice balls of different types, potato salad and a small Japanese style burger patty.
This place has a good selection of curry.
I always went for the curry & vege set though I could never finish everything.
Very good value for money. Service was quick though it had always been a challenge to be able to get a table for a big group.
Vegetarian curry was just so so.
Didn't get to sit down and taste the food as it came out but would say that the tokyo chicken don and curry and rice were packed with flavour. Was sadly too early but definitely returning for the dinner menu one time. The restaurant is very simple and food reminds you of a clean, home-cooked meal.
A go-to for homestyle Japanese food!
I always get the half curry and rice special which is fantastic value, and delicious! The tofu salad is always fresh and comes with dressing on the side, and the chicken curry is a classic, with tender chicken (though there can be variable amounts), and carrots on a bed of white and purple rice.
We've also tried the pancake dessert which is a thick pancake topped with fresh strawberries, banana, yummy green tea ice cream and honey, which was enjoyable too.
The service is speedy, and the owner is so cheerful and accommodating. Not much to be said about the ambience, the food is the main attraction!!!
BrimCC serves the best Japanese curry in Melbourne as far as I'm concerened. (And honestly it tops the all the curry I ate in Tokyo too!) It's fresh, delicious and filling and always leaves me feeling awesome after I've eaten it. The portion sizes here are really generous, the price is more than reasonable and the staff are really friendly. When factoring in cost, convenience, taste and service this place is difficult to fault!! My only real complaint is that the curry is so good that I can never bring myself to try anything else on the menu! (And everything looks delicious!) It's happiness in a bowl (or a bucket).
Came here looking to fill a craving for Japanese curry and this place hit the spot. Full of flavour, this is food for the soul. Good, nutritious, delicious comfort food, really generous servings and friendly staff. We had chicken curry and vegetarian curry, both were delicious. Incrediblely good value too. This is now a favourite. Thank you for your food!!!! 😀😀
after being refused service at gypsy and pig that does not take online bookings and won't seat patrons even when tables are free and booking doesn't arrive until 45 minutes later I had to find a next best option for my friends katsu curry craving. Google suggested brim cc. a 20 minutes walk later we came to a hole in the wall with pre cooked meals in large rice cookers. and one curry option. the Tokyo curry in chicken beef or veggie. Cold night. two hungry travelers. large portion sizes and eftpos only after you spend 10 dollars we decided to stay. sitting on a small table on very low stools we ordered two Tokyo chicken curries with white and black rice. as we waited and squatted for our food to be slopped into bowl plates I noticed tissues with writing on the wall and an old pillow that had been shaped into a map of Japan. my stomach felt queasy and I expected the worst. a sickly orangey yellow curry arrived with a massive portion of glutinous white rice with some black In it. large pieces of carrot in some very thick curry with tender pulled chicken. the first warm bite melted my heart and warmed my soul. each bite was tender delicious flavoursome. plain simple but scrumptious made me feel at home. i forgot about my surroundings as I ate and ate even after my waistband elt too tight
yummm. I'll be back and don't judge a book by its cover.
Really keen to try their Tokyo Bento (looks delish!), unfortunately i ran out of luck. They only serve limited portions of Tokyo Bento in a day. A bit disappointed, but i recovered fast. Finally, i decided to order their curry salad set. I choose beef curry & tuna salad. The portions are pretty generous for me and i love how tender the beef was. Will come again for the Tokyo Bento. I haven’t give up yet!
Had the chicken tomato curry and soup set. Absolutely delicious!!! Really fresh and hearty food. A bit crowded though and not enough seating

I love this place - tiny so gets crowded but its value for money. I love the soups and curries. Portions are generous and the fact that everything is organic is a big plus too. A hidden gem in the city.
I love this place, although you come here for the food, not so much for the location.
In my view one of the best value for money lunch places on the western side of the city.
The Chicken-tomato curry is just perfect, The portions are very generous, so I recommend to take 1/2 portion, which is not listed on the big board menu. Or I take a full portion home for dinner quite often.
Very friendly service.
Only downside is the very small space, so during busy lunch times it is hard to physically get in and out, let alone finding a table. And although the food gets out quickly, I suggest you allow 5-10 minutes to get your take away food during very busy lunch times. Other than that.....fantastic place!
Absolutely loved this place, we’ve been to this place a few times and loved the food each time. The curries are so full of flavour and are very filling. The cold soba noodle salad is fresh and and addictive and is perfect for this warmer weather. The service is friendly and efficient however the most annoying thing about this place is that it’s tiny and can only seat a limited amount of people. The lines can get long here so be prepared to get takeaway if needed. Fantastic lunch spot in the city for great value.
Best Japanese restaurant in Melbourne! I love their curry, cheap, great portion, and delicious. The place has a homey vibe that will make u feel at home. Moreover, they also have very friendly staffs. Very recommended! 😍😍
We ended up eating at Brim CC Japanese Organic Cafe by mistake. I was due to meet Brendan next door at Spicy Korean, but got confused seeing another friend waiting for his takeaway at Brim next door and ended up there instead. It was only once I was at the counter that Brendan pointed out we weren't in restaurant I'd suggested... by that time I'd already decided on what I wanted, so it was a bit late!
Absolutely the best place in melbourne to go when i want a warm hearty meal ❤❤ Makes it even better knowing it is all organic and you guys have vegetarian options! Just wish you guys were open on weekends!!
For cheap eats this place is rockstar. Organic chicken curry was beautiful. I got half chicken half beef. $11.50 BARGAIN. The rice was a bit clumpy, but apart from that, it was spot on for a Japanese curry. I'm not a great lover of japense curries, I generally find them a a bit sweet, but this was healthy tasting & made with vegie & chicken broth. Lady was lovely
Curry salad set for takeaway👌🏻
The salad is fresh~
The curry smells good also taste good and full of flavour.
Will definitely try different dish next time! :)
One of the most authentically Japanese food joints around. Simple decor but food is fantastic, only tried the lunch menu, but will be back for dinner time!
One of those little Melbourne haunts that you'd pass without thinking twice, unless you're in the know. Arrived at midday and got the last table - but there was a pretty quite turnaround so if you don't mind waiting...
The 1/2 serve curry + salad set is great value for money, and the Japanese curries are really tasty. The tofu salad was a bit on the bland side, but it was good to have some freshness and crunch to contrast the thick rich creamy curry.
Well worth a visit if you want something warm, comforting and flavoursome, but want something more than your more standard Indian or Thai curries.
Good, tasty, (mostly) authentic Japanese food. I had the vegie curry - it was delicious and filling. Not too salty, and good consistency.
I got there just before 12, but it got fairly busy, but the line moved quickly enough. You know it's good when people are prepared to line up.
Easy to find and lots of seating.
Come here often during winter for the Japanese chicken curry(Tokyo curry rice), yes I can make this myself, but I would need to be home to make it! They offer half servings also can purchase without rice. Good cheap meals.
Brim is a lively lunch time spot that always seems to be full during the lunch hours. It's quite a unique eatery with some of the menu offerings. Perfect for the cold winter months in Melbourne as there are plenty of organic soups and curries. The Dear Luncher sampled the Tokyo Chicken Don and it was quite the feast for just $11.50. A hearty bowl with a very large amount of chicken. Said chicken was prepared very nicely - marinated well and tender. Maybe some kind of sauce would have assisted a little with some marginal dryness, but apart from that this dish was great. The Bunnings tables to dine on are a bit of a problem, the interior is very, erm, shall we say, Spartan. No beer on offer, that's a bit of a let down as these types of meals go down superbly with an Asian ale of some description.
A simple hearty Japanese chicken curry rice served with tofu salad. Perfect on a winters night. For $11 for the whole lot and its organic, can't complain with that.
A late brunch post a myotherapy appointment called for something delicious to warm the soul. We used to come here when our head quarters were based out of 120 Spencer and it didnt disappoint then as it didnt disappoint now. First thing that came to mind was chicken katsu curry but unfortunately katsu wasn't on the menu. A standard chicken tomato curry $11.5 was the way to go and it did not disappoint with its delicious japanese curry flavour, perfectly cooked vegetables and juicy chicken pieces which could have had more chunks rather than strings. Presentation isn't anything to write home about with the rice and chicken curry looking like it just got dumped into the bowl.
The shop is still fitted as it had been 5 years ago with the same discounted looking seat and tables all crammed together to maximise seating for patrons and could do with an update. The staff are very polite as always and helpful when wanting to choose a meal. Parking is available on either side of Little Collins if you choose to drive otherwise just take the train to Southern Cross and walk across about 5 mins to the shop. A nice little shop to get a cheap but delicious meal at lunch or dinner. Till next time, this is Our Foodie Find.
Amazing japanese curry, best I have tried in melbourne and such good prices, would highly recommend if you are down this end of town, always packed with people confirming it's awesomeness
BrimCC is a small authentic japanese place that left quite a positive impression on my first visit. It is seemingly popular during lunch hours with office workers in the CBD for its affordable food. As a result, my friend and I arriving around lunch hour on a weekday meant the restaurant was very crowded and had to wait a bit for our food. Anyhow, we managed to get ourselves a table for two. I ordered the Tokyo bento ($12.5) The food tasted like if Japan was my home country; this food would make me feel like home. The flavoursome hamburg patty may be a bit on the salty side... but I thoroughly enjoyed the onigiris and potato salad. The sauce was a nice complement to the eggplant, I do not usually like eggplants but this, hey! I don't hate it.
If you want a seat, go earlier than the hungry workmen! As expected from the Japanese, the staff were very polite and nice. Plus I like hearing people speaking japanese at a japanese restaurant.
A nice place to enjoy a quick and healthy meal during lunch time! I prefer the chicken curry with carrots, and organic soup. The chicken is quite tender and tasty. Daily organic soup is easy to be sold out, so do try it if available!
Try the: Chicken Curry
Super friendly staff and quick service! Their chicken curry is to die for - the chicken is very soft and tender (not tough like some chicken curries can be). The salmon miso soup is seasoned well and tastes very comforting. The chicken hamburg, while flavoursome, was too salty for me.
What I like about this place is they promote organic? That's what I heard. Free range chicken. I've had the chicken and tomato Tokyo curry takeaway twice since there's no chance getting a seat. The portion is huge ! I recommend probably going half size. The chicken is soft because it's been slow cooked in the curry along with the carrots for hours I'm assuming. Overall not bad, not spicy and hearty meal for winter. Definitely bit too heavy for lunch if you ask me.
I don't really like curry in general but when my friends took me to Brim CC, I loved it!
It was so delicious it very filling as well!
We went around 11:30am and it got pretty packed with office workers as well but other than that!
Its a must! 👌👌
Cheapest weekday lunch ever! $4.50 for half veg curry and rice and the quantity is good too and it tastes great! I am never going anywhere else for Japanese lunch ever!
Ordered:
🍛Vegetarian Tokyo style curry & rice: made from the same organic vegetarian stock as their organic soup ($8.50)
Food:
🀄️This portion size was quite filling! I don't normally have curry when I'm out, but this is special JAPANESE curry and for the price, portion size and the flavour (the wooden spoons add a certain level of texture and its own unique flavour) it's definitely worth to check it out. Definitely a uni-student budget friendly price!!
Water:
Not self serve - you'll have to request the kind waitress at the cashier for water / refills and she'll bring it to your table.
Pay:
Pay as you ordered at the front. I did notice that people made reservations for dinner even though it was only 6:30pm. We luckily found a seat for the 3 of us, but up to you if you want to make a booking or not. :)
Best Japanese curry that I have had in the CBD and cheap too! Friendly service and quick to be brought out also! Highly recommended if you like Japanese curry.
Best Japanese curry in the area! Can take a while to be served during lunch times but well worth the wait. I've been here numerous times and have always received friendly service and quality food.
You wont go wrong with BrimCC. I've been here a couple of times for lunch. Not only are they affordable ($10 curry salad set), their staff is friendly and the food is authentic Japanese. During lunch queues are out the door and it may be hard to get a table.
I love ordering the chicken curry with a salad or soup. Very generous servings, friendly service. A reliable lunch option.
I always fancy Japanese curry and the first time I heard about this place selling authentic curry, I can't stop myself from flying to this cafe on my lunch break and oh wow, the curry just blew my mind and for a second I could speak Japanese! #oishii
Had a curry soup set: a beef curry serving with brown rice and a pumpkin soup.
Really love the creamy texture of the soup, and pumpkin tastes sweet. Not much beef in the beef curry, but any way, it's a good place to have a quick lunch.
Wanna try Japanese omelette rice next time.
My gf Japanese & we head to this place for lunch. Urban retro Japanese interior. Few selected options. Staff appeared friendly. Rice was a bit too soft for our licking & the Jap curry was like a strew. Food too simple style, however price appeared very reasonable. Menu says they offer only organic? Anyway Nice for just simple casual dinning experience. Overall rating 3.7*
This place is a little gem and I'm so happy i discovered it! Amazing organic Japanese curries, salads and soups. The fact that's it's organic with only Japanese people working, says it all. It's cute modest wooden interior might not look that exciting from the outside, but once you go in you'll get it. I've only been for lunch but the food is just great and authentic. A must try.
- Atmosphere 4/5
- Service/Staff: 5/5
- Food: 4/5
• Value for money: 4/5
• Revisit? FOR SURE!
• Must order: The beef/chicken curry combo! (+soup)
I am not the Japanese cuisine regular. However after stumbling into this joint, a cute and tiny hole in the wall Japanese with a Tokyo feel, decor, and mostly food from Tokyo. The food is slightly different from your typical Japanese restaurant. The quality of the chicken and beef were HIGH! Very tender and full of flavour! Very impressed. Unique serving plates and cutlery (wood). Staff very friendly, they will recommend food for you depending on what you feel. Remember the food is very rich, and hearty, at a reasonable price! Will definitely come back soon!
I love love love this place. The photo doesn't do it justice. The service always friendly, the take away dishes are usually always quick too. The curry (veg) half curry pictured, is incredibly reasonably priced, it is filling, full of flavour and goodness.
I will constantly be coming back, as long as nothing changes with that dish!! It is too good to change
Brim CC has been my go to ever since I discovered this little gem last year. I love the food here, really homey and just downright simple and good tasting. When I had problems with my wisdom teeth I came here everyday for their soups, I've since tried their curries and salad, all of which are delicious. It's a small space, but the girls that work here are always friendly and super nice. I've been meaning to come back for the dinner menu for some time now, alas work prevents me from doing so. I am determined and will be back for the dinner items and desserts! It's close to Southern Cross station too, so it's convenient, however it's always busy at lunchtime, but the service is quick, so don't fret! I love the fact that the food is all organic too, and whatever their purple rice is, it tastes fantastic!
Pretty good wholesome curry and heaps of vegetarian or vegan option. Very busy during lunch time but its open for dinner as well so why not drop by then! Ordered the vege curry and yaki don , not a fan of the yaki don but the curry was delicious, decent size for the price!
For a vegetarian it is very difficult to find a Thai or Japanese restaurant which serves you good curry but this place is exception ..they serve amazing Tokyo street curry in veg and nonveg ...
Even the place is always crowded especially in lunch time ..the service is quick
There is something about Brim CC that keeps us coming back to this compact eatery on Little Collins street. With an emphasis on organic produce, Brim CC offers delicious, fresh Japanese dishes (the chicken Yakatori-Don is our favourite) that justifies the long lines at lunchtime. . A Melbourne food and travel blog
Amazing food. They make really yummy Japanese curry. I recently had their rice triangles (forgot what they are called). They were really good. Definitely would recommend this place to others.
Hearty food that's fast, convenient and cheap as chips! Cannot fault at all. Only wish some dishes were a bit less salty, but nothing negative about BrimCC at all. Looking forward to try everything on the menu.
To be able to have Omurice in Melbourne has been one of my biggest foodie desires, so when I discovered Brim CC while researching restaurants on Little Collins St I was ecstatic. I immediately made plans the next day to visit right after work and dragged my bf here for a feed. The Japanese cafe specialises in organic food, with many vegetarian options. It’s very tiny with one communal table, four other two-seater tables, and some outside seating.
I came here for dinner on Friday night with 8 friends and I'm glad I booked. This restaurant was a lot smaller than I anticipated and the interior was rather cheap and dingy looking. However, I still had high expectations for their food due to their Zomato rating.
I decided to try something that looked completely different and ordered the Kyoto Carbonara set.As it was priced at $!8, this was more expensive that what I usually paid for a noodle dish at a Japanese restaurant. For the vegetable salad, I chose the mashed potato option. This was absolutely amazing in terms of mashed potatoes go and it came in a rather big portion (to which I gobbled down pretty quickly). The carbonara, on the other hand, was definitely an interesting dish. I couldn't choose whether it was interesting in a good or bad way but it didn't taste like the conventional carbonara dish; that'a for sure. This was a decent serving but in my opinion, the sauce was a little bit salty.
Brim CC always has a huge line creeping out the door at lunchtime. The line moves quickly however, and the food is always delicious.
BrimCC differentiates itself from other Japanese joints by focusing on using organic ingredients, including organic chicken stock in their famous Japanese curry. I always enjoy generous portions of tasty food for a reasonable price and apparently, so does everyone else. Hopefully they'll expand one day to better accommodate for their large customer base.
Had the Okonomiyaki. It tastes amazing~!!! It was crispy on the outside and the cabbage was not over cooked. It was still crunchy. The way I like~!!!😆
Tasteeeee, fast and so cheap
It's a budget restaurant that doesn't sacrifice the quality. The salad and curries are so good. They have different soups everyday. The customer service is so good and everyone you leave the restaurant they all cheat you up
90% of time the food is fantastic. Occasionally the lunchtime rush means the food is served unevenly - either too much curry not enough rice and vice Versa.
Generous portions and customer service is amazing. They also have a Brim 2 opened up near Aickins chambers.
Also have a seasonal menu - soba noodles for warmer seasons and curry for winter - unbeatable. V healthy!
BrimCC actually has a second store on Queen Street now in between Little Bourke Street and Lonsdale and this is where I ate.
Very similar setup with probably even fewer seats and tables than the one on Little Collins but the taste is much the same. I had the vegetarian curry and rice and remember it to be quite the same. I do like the healthy purple-ish rice they serve.
I was pleasantly surprised by this place. Good organic healthy food, great amount and good price. Definitely would recommend this for lunch!
A great place to go on a cold, rainy day. It's a quaint little Japanese restaurant which serves hearty food at a reasonable price. I ordered the Yakitori Don and left the restaurant feeling warm and full. Definitely need to come back and try out the curry!
aka Japanese Organic Cafe.
What a quaint little place ! I went with my family on a whim all the way from Nunawading and I can say I wasn't disappointed.
I ordered the Curry and Soup set which gives you a choice of a 1/2 sized portion of curry of your choice and the soup of the day. I ended up getting the chicken tomato curry and the soup that day was pumpkin ! Mum got the beef curry and potato salad which I also tried and loved. It was truly delicious and served quite quickly as the dishes had been premade and kept warm in soup heaters. So if you want quick, affordable, generously sized, authentic japanese food then I couldn't recommend this place any more :) service was also very good and attentive!
Advice: go during off peak times if you want a place to sit as I was told that during weekdays it can get really busy.
Always a great take away / dine in lunch at BrimCC. If you're down the King x Collins side of town, you have to check this place out. The chicken curry is delicious and the half curry half soup option is awesome when you're feeling like a little variety. Price is very reasonable!
I love this place! It's so fresh and the prices are fantastic. It gets very busy around lunch time, so I recommend having an early or late lunch. My favourite is the vegetarian Tokyo style curry and rice. The flavours are amazing!
A small and cute restaurant/takeaway, with delicious and reasonably priced authentic Japanese food. The staff are friendly and welcoming too :) We ordered the chicken curry, which came with red rice, which gave the dish a lighter and healthier flavour than normal Japanese curry, and the Tokyo bento. The Tokyo bento was delicious and had a mix of delicately made dishes. Would recommend for anyone who loves Japanese food, but wants healthier & organic options (e.g. Non white rice).
Cannot wait to go back and try more of the menu again! I only wished we had discovered it earlier in the visit to Melbourne :) Looking forward to their new branch in the CBD opening.
You cannot go wrong with any curry you choose from Brim Brim, I'm still working my way through the menu and its all cooked with love. Very busy at lunchtime, come early or later to score a table.
