Love this place. Cool feel amazing food and pretty good cocktails. Only thing it is a bit expensive (but love the corn) but service is good too. Having been to Mexico this food tastes pretty authentic
Lovely service from the staff. I loved the quasadilla and the cerviche the most! Gorgeous presentation. Not huge portions and on a Saturday night had to wait 45 mins for a table, but we went across the road to grab a beer at the Vietnamese bar/restaurant for a drink so it worked well.
Our family rates this really highly because the service is outstanding,the food is innovative and delicious,and it has a cool vibe. The music is up lifting and impressive.
Have eaten here a number of times now and each time we're treated to friendly service, fresh and tasty flavours and an excellent cocktail menu. Keeps us coming back! Don't be fooled by the current low Zomato rating. Great Mexican!
Second time visiting Hot Lips & both times we have had a great experience. The food is full of flavour and I personally think it’s reasonably priced & portions are good.
Stand out dishes were the fish tacos & the ceviche. Don’t let the current Zomato rating stop you from trying this place out. It’s awesome!
Best Mexican in Bayside for sure, chilaquiles are to die for, loved the pork tacos, convenient being right opposite train station, so Happy they are now on UBER EATS
After seeing they were featured in Broadsheet Melbourne, I convinced my husband that we should check out our 'backyard' and try out some of their cocktails. And so we finally made it to Hot Lips and find out for ourselves what the fuss is all about. The venue projects fun vibe. Staff were truly helpful and attentive.
As first timers, we decided we go with the safest choice, "Hot Lips Margarita" - as you can't go wrong with a Margarita in a Mexican eatery. Unfortunately for me, it didn't hit the mark. It was ok... but not exceptional for the price $20. The Margarita Grenada was really nice. (I must say, I know what's a 'good' margarita as I have tasted plenty when we traveled to Arizona and New Mexico.) But I will still go back to try other things on their menu. Just glad that we have a few happening places in Highett to choose from (and we don't have to go to the City to chill).
I've travelled through Mexico more times than I can count, and it's rare for me to be anything but disappointed by Melbourne's attempts at the cuisine. This place was a nice surprise and maybe something of a hidden gem for those generally too shy to venture too far out of the inner-city. A friend took me here and I ended up trying a good few of the dishes over a few trips there. Having some good chilaquiles on offer locally and a decent ceviche has been a real highlight of the times I've eaten at Hot Lips.
Service is great too, and the drinks list is excellent.
Great night out once again at Hot Lips especially with those prawn tacos...mmmmm. Our waitress was so lovely and attentive, and made great recommendations. even shared her brand of beautiful red lipsticks!! Highly recommend an aperol spritz. Keep it up, guys!
I don't know what all these cheapskates below are complaining about. The food was great and this was reflected in the price. The prices also aren't even that expensive. The servers were super friendly and we had a great time.
It's a small business in Bayside - rent isn't cheap. If you want a large plate of food for hardly any money then go to Hogs Breath Cafe you uncultured losers.
Really friendly staff. Food is mostly good with the odd exception. The Highett cooler is the greatest mocktail I’ve ever had! But the churros aren’t great
From the moment I walked in I was greeted and served by very friendly happy staff. The atmosphere is very vibrant and the food was absolutely delicious so tasty and the cocktails x 3 were cracking highly recommend 😊😊😊

Eaten here twice now and love it. Very fresh food, lots of variety, great drinks. Can get busy but have always had great service. Lovely to have a local restaurant that has an inner city feel.

We were recommended the tequila chicken tacos and they were excellent and tender. Everything on the menu are pretty small portions, but the flavours made it worth it. We watched the churros being freshly made, and it was a perfect way to end the meal (I recommend the café patron dipping sauce). The staff were all super attentive and friendly. Will be back for sure!
The vegetarian nachos are so diffirrent to any ice had before and so enjoyable, unfortunately just too small. The ceviche was also yummy. And I love that highett has a new funky Mexican addition but servings are small and it's too expensive tbh

A group of girlfriends and I went for some Friday night dinner and drinks here last week. We sat out by the heaters with blankets provided. The Pomegranate Margarita was delicious as was the spicy cocktail...which pays homage to the name hot lips. There was a fantastic selection of options on the menu (tostaditas, corn and churro were amazing)all delivered with a smile by the attentive waitstaff. There was a great authenticity and ambience. We will definitely go back for seconds.
Came here with a group of friends for dinner and drinks. The jamaica sour I think is my new fav cocktail it was delicious. Guacamole was tasty with really good corn chips. The pork belly tacos and slow cooked beef tostaditas were really tasty, and I didn't have them but the fish tacos were great too according to others in the group. Absolute stand out dish was the ceviche, everyone who ate it raved about it. It was my favourite dish.
Really nice decor inside and now I can see why they are so busy all the time. Good value for money too. Also suggest crossing the road for a drink at Hawker Bar afterwards for more good cocktails. Good spot! We will be back again soon.
We took 6 people to Hot Lips Hacienda and loved every minute of it. Five of us had TENGO HAMBRE ($55 banquet) and one had the vegetarian options. Every course was delicious (corn on the cob and churros with delicious dips are not to be missed) and we can't wait to go back for more. The atmosphere in this upmarket little eatery is also very cool (loved the fiesta music) and the service was prompt, warm and friendly. So delighted to have discovered this gem in the heart of Highett!
I went here with my girlfriends last weekend and had an amazing time.
We got there early after work and only had to wait about 10minutes for a table. It was super busy and the staff were great, we sat at the bar and as soon as a table became available they moved us.
The staff were fun, knowledgeable and attentive.
Drinks and food were all spot on as well.
We will definitely be back and Hot Lips have a new bunch of regulars now!

Absolutely loved the vibe at Hot Lips Hacienda including the staff, the people, the music and the layout of the bar and the rest of the restaurant. Moreover, the drinks were amazing and the food was delicious. Had the tasting menu and licked my fingers after every single dish! The only reason I'm not giving a 5.0 rating is because of the staff. However, they had just opened so I'm sure they have smoothed that out by now! Definitely planning on going back soon (it's actually a great date night destination) so I can try some of the drinks and the food I didn't get around to last time...
I have been to Hot Lips twice now...the first time in opening week where I understand they were finding their feet but still had an unreal buzz in the Highett strip. The 2nd time was SENSATIONAL. We had the "feed me" menu for a group of 6 and everything was delicious and so much food, even the boys were full. Great value for money and definitely an authentic take on Mexican cuisine. The staff (mostly Mexican) are really welcoming and makes you feel like you have been teleported to Mexico City. Overall awesome vibe with great tunes. Food is really tasty and some of the best cocktails in town. A great local option. I will be going back regularly even if it's for a few sneaky tacos and a cerveza on the way home from work straight off the train. Love it!!

Very new to the area and this is the first place we have tried.
Amazing food. There was a few hiccups in the ordering but wait staff went above and beyond to make sure everything was right and in the end we had nothing to complain about.
This will def be out new local.
Side note. The cocktails were prob the best I have had in Melbourne.
Been hanging for a decent Mexican feed in bayside and was amped to learn this was happening. Have now been 3 times and it is amazing. Have pretty much tried most of the dishes now and can say they are all fantastic. My favourite is the pork and chicken tacos, and the ceviche and chicken tostadas. soo much flavour packed into all the dishes! Haven't tried all the cocktails yet, but love the hot lips margarita. Vibe is really cool, staff very tentative and welcoming and never feel like their too busy to help. Cant wait to get back again!

If you love authentic Mexican this is a must try. I met the chefs and they have been flown over from Mexico which is awesome. The food is great, the drinks are on point and the service was tops. Recommended for any Mexican lover. My fave is the ceviche. AMAZING!

We arrived just after 7 to a full restaurant, was put on the wait list and the staff member assured us it wasn't more than 40mins. Having read a review about wait times from when it opened, I was impressed when she said we'd get a text msg now and when the table was ready, and that she'd set a timer for 30mins to ensure we were accommodated. We went to Hawker for a drink across the road, and within 15 mins the staff member came over and told us where we would be sitting so we could fit our pram in. As soon as we were seated, the waiter asked if we wanted corn chips and guacamole - yes please! This was the perfect accompaniment whilst we decided what to drink and eat. We ordered two tostada plates and two taco plates, both picking one we liked to mix it up, and shared a quesadilla. This was enough to fill us both without being stuffed sick! The food was delicious! Flavorful, fresh and definitely Mexican. The fitout is top notch, service great. For those complaining about the food, if you want a large plate of bad cooked rice and ridiculous cheese, this ain't the place... you know where to go. Hot Lips is Mexican you aren't cooking at home regularly, it's a treat! We paid just under $100 for food, one cocktail and beer. Great to have a city/Chapel St/Brunswick st eatery in the suburbs for families and making date-night easier! Loved the large tables for groups... We will be back!

Food was amazing first of all but the staff were just so lovely and the vibe/atmosphere was so cheerful. The cooks were awesome and so friendly, we can’t wait to go back again. Really made our night was super fun.
The Gordita’s were especially amazing and the Alambre was incredible. The drinks were very delicious cannot go wrong with this place it is a winner.

After going to a down market Mexican restaurant in Aspendale Hot Lips Hacienda outclassed this restaurant in terms of quality, variety and price. With so many share options that were a flavour bomb to your mouth to interesting twists on Margaritas you won't be disappointed. Got more, paid less will be back!
