Review Cafe Notturno - Melbourne

If you like veggies, get the stir-fried vegetables, they're so good. Potato wedges also was yummy. We loved the pasta for its HUGE portion. Penne chicken napoli & cream, and tortellini cream & mushroom

Good spread of your classic Italian favourites, both the pizza’s and pastas were very good! Nicely set outdoor area for those nice weather days, and plenty of room inside for when the rain eventually falls in the next 10 mins. Service could be better, it’s a must for the staff to be familiar with the menu, and we constantly had to point out items to the waitress to correctly understand

Tiramusu and all 3 skinny coffees were perfect. The waiter explained to us the concept of a skinny weak latte. The Black forest cake was too jammy.
Abby
Worst Italian food ever had…….. food has no taste at all. Even the coles frozen pizza is better than theirs… shock

Very busy little Cafe. Pretty quiet for breakfast that we noticed however at night it become ALOT busier. If you are after a quick but quality meal I recommend this place but not if you are looking to sit for a long time. Coffee was excellent and service was friendly, efficient and still felt personal despite tables being turned over quickly you still feel welcomed.

Good little Italian spot for late night eats with friendly waitress, food is average but will patronise again!

Went to cafe notturno tonight for dinner with my family. I have been going there for years. I ordered two pizzas, my daughter got the chicken parmigiana she couldn’t eat the chicken it tasted old with a horrible taste. I went inside and told the manager it wasn’t suitable to eat and asked if he could take it off the bill. he got really angry and annoyed and told me there was nothing wrong with it. I told him I’m not paying as my daughter couldn’t eat it he then decided to take it off the bill he then made a scene outside where we had eaten telling me never to come back with your family telling me off he then proceeded to assume and ask me why I was talking to the other customers outside thinking I was talking about his food he served us as I wasn’t. he made my whole family feel very uncomfortable especially in front of my autistic daughter which she felt very overwhelmed by very in shock as I have been going to that restaurant for many years and how he spoke to me. It was not professional and was not right he yelled at me never to never come back as I am not welcomed. very disgusted. Terrible service.

If you would like to get disrespected then look no further than this place. The owner of the restaurant abused and yelled at my friend because she accidentally vaped in the restaurant, a decent human being would would ask politely and respectfully to not do such a thing. However the owner decided to yell and be very disrespectful towards my friend, which shows that the owner clearly does not care about customers. Absolutely disgusting behaviour from a grown man.

Do not like the menu, nothing really sparked the attention. The taste was not very nice. Service was friendly but slow. The set up was not very good. Will not want to visit again unfortunately.<br/>

My favourite place for lunch or having drinks with friends. Very friendly staff, and rich menu.  Timely fashioned service. <br/>The chicken avocado salad is my favourite

My partner and I have decided this place will be our weekly late night hang out place. It is nice and cosy inside, hours are open til late and the staff are always super friendly. We have been a handful of times now and each time has been a great experience. We plan to try everything on their huge menu. Portions are hearty at a friendly price point. If you order a slice of cake, probably best to get one to share as their slices are big! There is nothing to fault about this restaurant. We will continue to go weekly and recommend to all our friends and family. Thank you.

Came here today for dinner. Service from the waitress was friendly and helpful. But thats all. The food was below par. The parma was super thin, lacked flavour and to be honest, any pub in the suburbs would serve a better countermeal at half thr price. My wife had the lasagna which was meaty and bland with an overkill of cheese. Been here many times for coffee and cale but not dinner. Will not eat food here. Keep walking and try the pub.... any pub. Better parmas elsewhere

Pizza was okay. However the service was that poorly. Lady was really rude and rolled her eyes. Food also took really long to come out. Was not pleased
Tess Presso
Sad to say this place is overpriced, and lacking quality service. The Tuna Salad was disappointing. I was expecting fresh tuna at that price, but had to settle for cold tinned tuna.
Some Bunee Loves Food
Been here a few times when I was craving for chicken risotto. It was pretty good with the red sauce, when normally other places make risotto with white sauce. The service is ok, but sometimes there are tour groups who came and orders might take longer.

Service was great, unfortunately the flavours and food are not on the same level. Steak, chips and sauce are below average in flavour and presentation. Margarita pizza was a bit oily. And the pasta stated it had mushrooms but had very few pieces of it.

Stopped by this cafe in Lygon Street for something sweet after dinner. It wasn’t as busy as usual so I found that the service was rather good. (Other reviews made me skeptical...) The interior was rather dim due to the lighting. The furniture went with traditional tables and chairs, giving it an old-fashioned appearance. Overall, we were happy with the dessert and drinks.

The pizza was very average, and the chicken tasted like a thawed and reheated meal with soggy vegetables. <br/>The experience was topped off as we were seated near the stairs/kitchen area, and realised the restaurant had a pet or possibly a little helper like the movie Ratatouille. A small mouse made its way down the steps and into the kitchen area. Safe to say the meal was left unfinished.

Just waited over 3/4 hour for a toasted ham cheese and tomato sandwich which was not cooked properly and had no cheese in it. Fortunately we didn't order something more complicated when they had trouble handling this. First and last time at this restaurant.

Wanting a late night feed on a Saturday night/Sunday morning, having the option to order pasta or genuine Italian restaurant food rather than typical fast food is the main reason why this is the better choice.<br/>Notturno has been around forever, inviting young crowds for a good hangout spot mostly taking the tables outside, whilst families occupy the inside. Since the new smoking laws, the young crowds of Lygon st have dissolved a little, which I personally feel effects the vibrant atmosphere that makes Lygon st an iconic food location. That's another story...<br/><br/>Notturno have a fairly large menu with a wide variety of Italian cuisine options. The prices are reasonable for the location, the quality is average. <br/>Little things like changing the Napoli sauce to have basil instead of parsley is an example of how the quality in this place could actually improve overnight. <br/>Don't expect 5 star food, but expect to be satisfied for a good take out or late night feed, rather than eating McDonald's or Domino's etc. <br/>The service is up and down depending on the time of day and how busy they are, although none of the waiters ever look happy to be there. <br/><br/>Overall,<br/>Quality: 3/5<br/>Decor: 4/5<br/>Ambience: used to be 5/5, now 3/5<br/>Service and staff: 2.5/5<br/>Value for money: 4/5<br/><br/>Not somewhere you would take visiting relatives or a romantic date for a fancy meal, but somewhere you could go after a late night of drinking for a feed or on the way home from work and cooking dinner at home isn't an option.

First time here, will be my last- below average coffee- cake was stale and cream on top had gone sour- service pretty average. Will not be back.

A good staple Lyon street venue. The food is good, food serving sizes with attentive staff. It's a good mid range place with nice pizza and pasta.

An Italian icon that has served Carlton for many years and a favourite for many people from our fair city and beyond. The cafe requires some interior renovation and maybe a few menu adjustments to modernise the place. I had a carbonara which was fair but not amazing on this occasion.<br/>Service was prompt however I found staff over-keen to clear tables when cafe was not full. It was unsettling and not confortable to feel you had to eat quickly so the table could be reset. Hence, the rating because of the experience re: service. Would like this to be rectified as I will return and want to give a review more deserving of the cafes status in Carlton. Cheers to all.
Steven Gu
Cafe Notturno in Lygon street. Nice cosy environment with great mix berry cheese cake and coffee. Highly recommended after an Italian meal and stop by for something sweet
John Somers
This place is a landmark and a hangout more than a place to go and eat. The outside tables are usually a younger crowd nursing a coffee for 4 hours while chain smoking. It stays open late and the food is decent, cafe style food. The pizzas are pretty good too.<br/>The service can be pretty bad when it gets busy. Come for the atmosphere.
Faisal Rasool
Worst customer experience ever in Melbourne.<br/>Average food with lot of attitude and no manners towards customers. Will never visit this place again and will recommend the same.
Antonio Francese
Ok so cane here for breakfast. WOW. <br/>Got the pancakes and eggs and bacon on toast. 2 lattes and an oj. <br/>The food was amazing hands down very very good. Im a chef at a local restaurant and wanted to try another place i was not dissapointed. The young lady that served us aswell was very polite and extremely nice. The price also was so cheap i couldnt believe it. Very happy with what i got will be back again no doubt. Thankyou.

Good service. It's a family friendly joint frequented by many university students (it is very close to University of Melbourne). We came for dessert and were not disappointed with the portion sizes or the cakes.<br/>
George David Michaelides
Was once a hangout joint in the mid naughties and back then you didn't really care about the food you just wanted an outside table so you could " be seen "  How times have changed !!!, the pizzas are pretty respectful and the coffee is okish but outside of that you'd better look elsewhere for food, unfortunately this place hasn't kept up with the times and is ageing, i hope the owners invest some money into it as its location is great and could be transformed into something great!!! <br/>Care to sell owner?
Asha
Such a cult classic on Lygon street. One of the most popular hangout spots for uni students - this place stays open on most nights till after midnight. Great place to catch up with friends ... Food verdict :average

Best pizzas in town. Great service. Good ambiance. I went there as a vegeterian. And there was heaps of vegeterian options. Love this place. Highly recommended
Mya Taee
The service is terrible, the waitress took 15 minutes to take our order, the coffee took another 20 minutes and the food was average. Not worth it.
Stelyios
Perfect late night trading restaurant. Good pizzas not bad coffee all at a reasonable price. <br/><br/>Many people complain about the decor but this is a Lygon Street institution and has remained the same on the inside for many many years and for all I can remember. It's similar to how American diners keep their feel inside. <br/><br/>Service is a give and a take when busy but other than that never had an issue and staff have never been rude as others have mentioned. <br/><br/>Overall for a late weekend meal this is the place.
Alison Read
Had lunch here with a friend. A traditional Lygon Street cafe- sit on the sidewalk or inside. We sat outside as it was a beautiful day. Lunch specials for $14.95... including pasta, pizza, burger, schnitzel etc. I chose the risotto and my friend picked the burger with chips. The specials come with a glass of wine or softderink. Great value. The food was hot and tasty. Other menu options were salads and focacias- a huge drinks menu too!!
Mervin
A lot of muzzas but always good for a late night feed if you want some average food with a "just be grateful we're still open at this hour" vibe
Joel
Poor service at all. Waiter totally ignore me when I raise up my hand try to ask for help . Pretty sure he saw me, but him just walked out and ignore. <br/>Disgusting food, asked medium steak, came with over cooked.

Wow I am so disappointed. My friend and I have been here before and have been satisfied, but I will not be returning after tonight.<br/>We were sitting on the leather seat along the wall, and I removed my shoes and crossed my legs (not visible to anyone) and I was asked to uncross my legs because 'it's not allowed' I then asked if I could sit on a normal chair and do it, in which I was also told no! I am actually in shock, I have eaten at many restaurants in Melbourne, some being a lot more upper class then this shit hole and have never ever ever heard of anything like this! <br/>Because of this, I won't be returning.<br/>The waiters name is Dimitrei

Came here for lunch, nice atmosphere and very friendly service. Had the $14.90 lunch special, very good value for money! Large serve of chips and Parma. Chips were very good, can't complain about the Parma for the price. Salad was good apart from the fly I found in it. Will be back.

Coffee was fantastic - and one of the few places you can get a Coffee after midnight.  A Melb institution.  People actually line up to get in here after a certain hour.
Andrew T
This Italian restaurant/café has been long established in Lygon Street, and is well known for its extended hours of operating. I have been here a few times, and have had their vegetarian breakfast, which is quite good, and coffee which is made well. Their menu has the expected range of Italian fare, with pasta, pizzas, focaccia, as well as grilled food, burgers, and their breakfast options. The interior is always a little dim, and the tables and chairs are conventional, giving it an old-fashioned appearance. Some kerbside tables are available for alfresco dining. The service is friendly and efficient, and the meals are good value.

Rude behavior. Use of abusive language by the owner for the mismanagement of his staff. Asked for a  3 scoop gelato, the staff gave it in different cups saying that was the way it is served. At the time of payment they started demanding a higher amount than mentioned when questioned owner started abusing. Would never recommend to anyone. The gelato had ice in it , the worst gelato i ever had..!!
Ishesh Gambhir
Rude Owner. We asked for a 3 scoop gelato. Server served 3 separate and the owner started using rude language. Would never ever go there again and would never recommend to anyone. Extremely rude owner and bad staff.

Really like the chicken avocado pasta here! It is my go to place for my late night pasta craves(: their Nutella calzone is pretty good as well.

Notti's have awesome steak, food comes out quick and they always seem to be open! win!<br/><br/>Usually I go for the chicken ceasar salad, or the steak and salad!<br/><br/>Food: 4.5/5<br/>Speed: 4/5<br/>Value for money: 4.5/5
Marion Taylor
Great service from friendly waitresses. Excellent coffee and a good breakfast of fresh eggs, bacon and mushrooms. Perfect spot for a Sunday morning<br/>
Food Is Really Great
One of the few food places I saw open on Lygon Street at around 9am. The French toast is a generous serving of maple syrup over four slices, although a little too eggy.
JLN
Do not bother. <br/>I have been here on a few occasions, and have always been left disappointed by the quality of the end product. <br/>The pizzas are usually undercooked and the chicken parmagianas are a real disappointment, and don't get me started on the watery coffees and milkshakes. <br/>The staff look like they are waiting for their shift to end. <br/>This reminds me of an experience I once had here: <br/>I came here one Friday night around 11.30pm with a group of 4. Before we had the chance to order, one of us explained to a waiter that that only one of us wanted to order a milkshake, the waiter then refused to serve us unless we all made an order. <br/>This incident was the final straw after many disappointing experiences
Jules
I wish I could give this joint a score of 0. What more could be said about this absolute joke of a "cafe"? <br/>Food is absolutely terrible, overpriced, takes too long to be served and service is borderline bearable. <br/>It would be a blessing for this place to depart lygon street. <br/>

Notturno as their motto is "Where Freinds meet" that justifies it totally. If you wanna hang out with friends this could be one the cool places. They are open from early morning to late night. So if you wanna have nice warm food at any time no matter if it is morning or late night this place will warmly welcome you. Along with the nice coffee and service I'm probably gonna rate this place 4.5 out of 5.

I came to Lygon st on wed night walking up & down looking for the most busy place & there it was cafe Notturno, from the guy who greeted us at the door I think his name was Dimi poss manager, he sat us at the front of the cafe, being from Perth we wanted to see all the action & eat great food & drink nice wine. Well we got all that & more, I had an eye fillet my friends had this prawn linguini which he couldn't stop talking about all the way back to Perth. After a few bottles of penfolds Bin 28 we paid the bill at front counter with the owner Salvatore great guy, had a good chat about the history of Lygon st. <br/>Great food great service definitely go back when I'm in Melbourne <br/>

Inedible zucchini chips had to be sent back<br/>Stale bread served with soup<br/>5 minute wait for a soup spoon (after the soup was provided). <br/>Penne Matriciana had spring onion and pizza salami (different description on the menu)<br/><br/>Won't be eating here again.

Notturno is the sort of place on Lygon St that everyone's old man used to hang out at drinking coffees until all hours of the night in the 80s... Unfortunately the food isn't really that good. The service is great, but the food is expensive for what it is and substandard for Carlton. How times have changed!
Alis
This place never disappoints. Been coming here for years since I was a teenager and I absolutely love it. Good service and wide variety of food on the menu. The dessert is crazy everything so delicious. The popularity of this place and having to wait for a table outside shows how amazing this place is. Always tables available inside however if you wait for a table outside it's definitely worth it.
Bianca Roberts
Updated review. Came here for lunch and was disappointed. Ordered bruschetta and eggplant chips. The chips were chewy and bland, and the bruschetta was fresh but again lacked depth; there wasn't even balsamic and it was loaded with an overpowering amount of parmesan cheese. I paid $26 for this unimpressive meal!
Tim Baker
Good menu with plenty of options. They even have a kids menu. The food was of a good standard with decent serving sizes. Great prices. Service was quick and good too. Can't go wrong if not expecting a 5 star restaurant.
DoubleShot
Food is average, nothing to "write home to mother about" though. Standard Italian cuisine. Located in the heart of lygon st, hence great atmosphere - the service is of good standard.
Michael Adziovski
Noddies as I along with loads of others call it...<br/><br/>You can't really go wrong with this place.<br/>The menu is very big with loads of options...<br/>I highly recommend getting the Greek salad(it's called something else) with grilled chicken and also smashing a chicken or meat lovers pizza with it :)<br/><br/>The service is generally good with some staff going out of there way to be nice and good to you but there are times where you have to ask 3 times where your drinks or water are :(<br/><br/>Still though, if you're on Lygon street and have never been to this place (would be unlikely) you should definitely go as you will like it :)<br/><br/>Negative would be it can get very busy so wait times might be a while...<br/>Toilets are small and crap so you gotta wait if they in use...<br/>Staff can improve but there are good staff members
Philippe Francois
first this place gets a point for staying open late, and it is very very busy. The service is very good, especially the italian guy with the bold head and the beard, so another point for that. The food, well, better eat somewhere else and come here for a hang out if you want a busy place. But they do have some rough looking customers, so I wouldn't recommend it for couples.
Richard Woods
Good restaurant open late.<br/>Steak here with mushroom sauce is awesome and the chicken avocado salad.<br/>Happy with the service and have been back numerous times.<br/><br/>

The Lemon tart was just divine with vanilla icecream! 😋 I am not a Lemon tart kinda gal, however, it was pefect! Quite a generous size too. I liked the dim lit ambience ... I found the service average though!
Roshanaksamadirad
the worst place you can find in whole Melbourne, terrible food, and not at all Italian style, they have everything on the menu but a classic Italian food, never go there again.
Nina
Cafe Notturno is ok.. The menu is outdated with all the usual suspects. Not fine dining by any stretch but good enough that when you really can't decide where to go, its a safe enough option along Lygon if you are already in the area. You can expect an alright pizza, calzone or pasta. I usually just order a calzone with the bolognese sauce. Ingredients are of bulk average quality which is reflected by the price.
Nadine Rebecca Nefdt
The happy hour food is great for snacking however, went there for dinner and was not as impressive. The mains were average, could have cooked it at home. Wait staff wasn't very knowledgeable about what the meals really consisted of and very forgetful.
Simon Dewberry
What a great find! Perfect for when me and my girl are hankering for a pizza pie late on a Sunday evening. Great service, great food, well priced. Also, try the Parma!
JKGasMan
Used to be a great establishment when I was in my uni years, now it feels overpriced with poor offerings. I was given the Baci cake which tasted quite ordinary, and the coffee was rather weak and flat. There was also the rude cashier who wouldn't even give me a breakdown of my bill when I asked why cake and coffee totalled to $14! Avoid this place, plenty of better cafes along Lygon St.
Sarah Ferlazzo
I accompanied a group of friends there tonight who each ordered drinks. When the waitress came around and took orders, I did not feel like anything. However, after responding to the waitress with, "I'm right thank you" after asking me what i would like, she then told me, "Minimim one drink per person". I was then forced to order then pay for a drink in which i did not touch. A friend who ordered Orange Juice, received what you may as well call, Cordial. Overall, poor quality overpiced goods, served through low customer care. <br/>Business objectives should be rectified. I will not return.

Cafe Notturno use to be a great Italian restaurant over 5 years ago, nowadays, it just feels outdated & there is a lot of other choices that have authentic Italian meals. They need to update or renovate this place a bit, maybe change the decor a bit. This use to be one of our favorite restaurants on Lygon street, but they really need to do something else to keep their regular customers.
Queen G
Terrible place to eat, the service was disgusting the staff just could not be bothered to even take our orders. The toilets were just filthy and putrid. Will never ever step foot in this place again!
Kristina Pazder
While the cafe has a nice outdoor set up and a great variety on the menu the service of the waiters and the quality of the food is much to be desired. On my most recent visit the "scotch fillet" steak that was ordered was more of a low quality stewing steak and when I advised the waiter it was cooked rare when medium rare was requested he proceeded to have an argument with me about how the steak was cooked. Furthermore he refused to bring another steak out (even after offering this and the offer was accepted) and just told the chef to put the intial steak served back on the grill. Given that on my previous visits to this establishment the waiters have gotten orders wrong, taken an extremely long time to complete orders and the service has been sub-par, I would strongly recommend people find a better eatery to spend their time and money at. I personally prefer the burgers here than grilld. Casual food at normal prices. Very laid back. Open late which is a plus so you can get a meal after a few drinks.

The worst place you can possibly go..

Disguating Manager & wait staff !!!. Used to be my favourite hang out during Uni Days. Family was visiting from O/seas so too them over for a post dinner coffee & dessert.<br/>I asked the waitress (European Backpacker) why my banana milkshake was tasting of only syrup. She seemed confused about the ingredients & went and called a different wait staff (Bald Guy with beard).<br/>He says that everywhere in the world banana milkshake is just syrup & ice cream & milk. He went on and asked us to google for milkshakes and left. He also said he cannot write what type of cheese they put in the pizza<br/>next the manager (absolute retard) comes & tells us thats how a milkshake is & threatened that we better pay for it. I told him that I was not satisfied with his explanation & that the menu did not mention the contents and that there was absolutely no banana taste to my milkshake at all & hence would not drink it and was not happy paying for it.<br/>He then goes away and after consulting a couple of his waitstaff, comes back & grabs the coffee, the tea, the gelati that my 3year old nephew was eating away from them and asks us to get up and leave. <br/>We were shocked that a) for a $5 milkshake he decided to let go for $25 worth order & obviously the customers for ever.<br/>B) absolutely shocked that a manager of a restaurant could actually ask people to leave mid way through their meal and actually snatched away what they were eating/drinking from their hands.<br/>The bald waiter then blocks the main entrance with his hands and body and refuses to let us leave and was passing some racial & abusive comments. Had to mention that I would call the police before they let us leave. Left a terrible impact on my 3 year old nephew and all of us.<br/>The owners of this business need some serious introspection on their customer service and choice of manager+wait staff.<br/>Manager was behaving more like a gangster

What a great place, good straightforward food with ample serving sizes. Always open and welcoming when all other places are shut. I get down there whenever I want a straight up Parma or schnitzel and these guys give you heaps of sauce with your meat dish you will never be left wanting. Good honest breakfast also.

Nocturnal Notturnos!. Lovely Lygon at nightfall when all other cafeteria's curtains are drawn, past midnight, Notturno's is wide awake for business. A group of 8 of us were ushered to a table right away; no reservation necessary. Famished come this hour, we settled upon Chicken parmigianas, salt and pepper calamari, penne Bascaoila, which I tasted from my friend- scrumptious indeed. A plethora of supplemented parmasean cheese. Another bounteous supply of chubbed chippies and aioli which complimented in peak succession- I believe owing to the basil jammed packed herbs withheld. Neither do I manipulate the deliciousness of my Neptune gourmet pizza with additional Jarlsberg dairyness. (Cheese fanatic lunatic) The consistency of extreme!! But not overpowering in spite of the vintage origin. Productive customer service, valuable quality to quantity ratio, 8 overstuffed abdomens. Does Notturno maintain the 24 hour access? Ingenious management stratagem if you ask me.

Awesome late night breakfast..... This place is open late at night (pretty much till early morning on weekends) and they serve all day breakfast along with pizzas and pastas, gelati and other delicious treats. Food here is awesome and staff is very friendly. Even late at night the staff is helpful and tries to accommodate your special requests. If you get a midnight craving for coffee, ice cream or are just trying to find food at 1am, this is the perfect destination.

Cold nights, warm cravings.. Hmmmm .... what could be better than satisfying a craving for chocolate on a cold night than with warm Nutella crepes and coffee? Was there cream? Hell yeah, there was lashings of cream! Didn't skimp on that, that's for sure! Not only was the service friendly, but we weren't rushed off like many places do to free up the tables. And with the new reno the place is looking better than it ever has! Loving the mood in there. Keep up the great work guys!

The waiters/waitresses were very warm and welcome. Although our food was slightly delayed, the waiter numerously apologised and accompanied us with great service. The food was nice, and the quantity of food was worth the price. It is a nice environment for catching up with mates and indulging with conversations
CoffeeSavedMe
Decent food- so so coffee. Service is average here, food is ok, coffee is not as good as you would expect an italian place to have however, its still drinkable, been here regularly for nearly a year then changed preference since the price to quality didnt fit.
Shereena
The Saturn gourmet pizza. This is yums! We will order this EVERYTIME we eat at Notturno!

If you are a night owl, then probably this is a good place to hang out!!! Serving foods & desserts, this place open till 3am everyday!!!

The menu had a good range of pastas, pizzas and typical main meals, including parmas, steaks and salads. We all ordered pastas. My penne bascaioli was essentially penne with chicken and mushrooms, with a cream and napoli sauce. Quite rich, but the flavours were tossed together nicely. Janette had the penne matriciana, which looked tasty, but was apparently quite spicy. Duy's sundried tomatoes and olive gnocchi came with a cream sauce, and looked far too rich and filling for my liking, although he asserted that it did in fact taste quite good. The menu also had a small range of desserts (including nutella crepe) and a large drinks list.

We had built up a hunger getting the kaka shot out of us at paintball, so we drove over to Lygon Street for some din dins. We settled with Cafe Notturno, which was displaying their full spirit for the World Cup: Italian and Greek scarves hanging off the w

Impolite manager. My friends and I were down lygon st today for some coffee and cake. We use to love coming down to Notturno for coffee and cake. But today changed everything. I ordered the Tim Tam cake and there was moss growing on it. I asked to speak to the manager regarding our bill. I expected him to come out and speak to me but instead I had to go inside. I advised him that we would not be paying for our bill and he said you have to pay for the our stuff that you had ordered. His response was "If it gonna make you happy" in a smart arse tune, therefore with his attitude I will not go back there and will tell everyone I not to check their desserts prior to eating it.

The Famous Notties!. It seems now that Cafe Nutturno is iconic here on Lygon St. It's popular among everyone who frequents Lygon St a lot. I like it it has a variety of entrees and mains and desserts. Ive tried the pizza, the gnocchi pasta, the Nutella crepe dessert and the calamari and parmigiana main dishes. All the dishes tasted really nice with a nice presentation. However the only issue is that sometimes the service could be slow but it's understandable as Cafe Nutturno can get really busy.

Terrible food. Really? Do y.... Terrible food.<br/>Really? Do you really need to get hollandaise sauce from a can? <br/>This place has to be the worst place on Lygon street. Cut out the middle man. Just put the "food" straight in the toilet.

Served with a side of attitude. Ate here a couple of days ago, the waitstaff were unbelievably rude for absolutely no reason at all. Very quick to push you into ordering, slow in their service, and are happy to not tell you that accounting for dietary needs will be more than double the price (and then have to audacity to make the problem look like it's yours in the end!). Food is fine, but in terms of customer service there are definitely a multitude of much, much better restaurants along Lygon St - 3/10 for this one, and that's being generous.

NEVER COME HERE!!!!!!!!!!. The worst place i have eaten in Melbourne! everyone was so rude, the food took a lifetime and even when it finally arrived it was average at best. maybe the managers should stop talking about soccer for one minute to take care of their customers and train their staff. thank you for wasting my night! very very poor 2 out of 10 and im being generous

Horrible, Horrible, Horrible!. It really fasinates me how places such as this one are still in business. The staff are horrid, poorly trained, arrogant and not to mention, shockingly rude.. including the manager! From a scale of 1-10, I guve them a 2 on customer service. <br/>Quailty of food isnt great, even a simple pizza could be cooked better at home and paster is served basically un cooked and still hard. <br/>When requesting service from waiters, expect to be ignored or asked to leave, once food is finished. If your looking for great service or a reasonable dining experience, this is definatly NOT that place.

Awesome. They have awesome pancakes, the most divine cake selection, their milkshakes are amazing and the staff are always very cheery and welcoming

Do not eat the pizza here, I bit into one of their pizzasand chewed on a couple of small items that can only be described as small 'rocks'. Result - a chipped tooth that will be very expensive to fix. I wrote them an email informing them prior to posting my experience on urban spoon out of courtesy. They did not bother to reply. Do not eat the pizzas.

Absolutely the worst place on Lygon street. Worst service. Worst eggplant chips I have ever had the misfortune to be served. Half the table was served their meals and the other half were still waiting half an hour later. DO NOT come here

Regular all the time, on Tuesday at 1:30am I was charged a 10% surcharge, I told him it wasn't a public holiday, it wasn't the money it's the fact that they don't care about anyone, people should open there eyes before going to money hungry places like this one, I'm never going back there again

Repulsive, Tacky, Crass,. Cafe Notturno stands alone in the fact that it is easily the worst restaurant to grace the Australian continent. Plasma TV's, signed football jerseys and Ferrari flags showcase the sheer absence of decorum, in accordance the food is aligned with this visual trash. The meat/seafood/unidentifiable discharge has obviously been acquired from a third world country at an absolute minimum cost. It is then applied to a heaping of (cooked then frozen then microwaved) pasta and slathered with vegetable oil, the menu is basically a different type of pasta paired with whatever unknown substance you so desire. As well as this the manager sees it appropriate that he communicate to the staff in front of customers like they are inanimate objects. Cafe Notturno categorically rivals mussolini relative to the utter volume of damage it has singlehandedly inflicted upon italian culture.

Left a Bad Taste In My Mouth. The food here is really bad. I've come here a few times late at night as it's the one of the only 24 hour places in the area, and everytime has been a let down. The pizza's are okay for when you're hungry, but everything else is lacking in flavour, old and a lot of the time cold. My last visit I ordered just a focaccia that actually left me feeling sick after two bites, and I left the rest there. Most places are concerned when they clear plates that are still full of food, but the staff could not care and don't even ask how everything was.
