This place is pretty hard to find on the quieter "business" side of town, it is delicious however, I found no fault in the foods and only marked down due to lack of atmosphere

A great Modern asian restaurant in the city, I've been here a number of times for lunch. The beef curry is really good, and they also have really nice pho, and pork bao buns here too.

Attended a private event here. Could not highly recommend this restaurant enough.

The meals we had were delicious! Fried chicken was definitely the winning dish for me 😊

I work right near this restaurant and have been there a number of times now. The food has been consistently delicious, the service is great and the restaurant is bright and modern. I highly recommend the eggplant, the fried chicken and the pork bao. Yum!

I made an Zomato account just so that I could review this place. The Brass Coq is everything you're looking for - intimate atmosphere, amazing food, creative cocktails. The green pawpaw salad is the best one I've ever had. This place definitely deserves more attention! I think it's the hidden gem of Asian eating in the CBD.

Cozy atmosphere. Staff are friendly and helpful. Dishes are not bad. I recommend the fried chicken. Other dishes are just in the normal level. Do not try the dessert except that you love really sweet food.

I'm giving you guys a terrible review for damaging my liver with those delightful rusty nails, fattening me too well with your ridiculously light and delectable fried chicken, and your hand soap exfoliates my skin too much turning my once manly hands into very soft and feminine hands! etc etc. all the bad stuff you know!

Came with the intention to order a bowl of Pho. Instead noticed another table with a plate of fried chicken and quickly changed my mind. Great choice! Very happy with the chicken. Can't wait to come back and next time I will  try the Pho and avoid the fried chicken temptation.

The Brass Coq is located on 470 Little Lonsdale, and I will be frank and admit that I had never heard of it until my friend told me about this place. As I don't work near that area, I will never walk past it either. However I am very glad that I did find out about it. It's a quirky, modern setting and they set out to do 'good home styled' Vietnamese food. I love Vietnamese food, so when O and A told me about it I said yes straight away.

My friends and I went there for a late lunch. Food was AMAZING and service are AWESOME. We had to go back for cocktails another night. The Brass Coq is absolutely amazing. Barramundi was super fresh and tasty, highly recommend. Their Fried chicken was something you must order. Omg! I'm in love with their fried chicken. Pho soup was smooth and medium body, just RIGHT! Good job Collin, Mike and Nike absolutely good food and drinks. Nothing goes wrong. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Lovely little Vietnamese-French place. They continually work on their menu and put out fantastic dishes. Off-menu cocktails are masterful. A hidden secret, tucked away past the row of Korean eateries on Healey's.

I was there for their fried chicken, but the girl beside me had a dish that smelled so delicious I had to give it a try. Turned out to be the Shaken Beef, ox tail with pepper, the meat was sooo tender I nearly ate my tongue. Chicken was also very good. Ice coffee had too much ice, cannot get to the coffee LOL

Do: the Vietnamese Fried Chicken, the Bao, the curry and the steak and thrice fried chips.

Don't: forget the Vietnamese coffee and the amazing cocktails with an Asian twist.

Tip: downstairs is nice but upstairs is where it's at. The bar, the tunes, the vibe and the fitout (very Instagramable) all add to this great experience. Service was also spot on. Thank you for your hospitality Nick and Luke and the rest of the staff.

Popped in for a quick bite just before lunch. We arrived around 11.40 and was seated straight away. We ordered some iced coffee - vietnamese style of course - very strong flavours. Then we went onto the betel leaves with beef and the VFC - Vietnamese fried chicken. Wow! So light and crispy - very well done! Customer service was great. Love the decor of this place. Bright and airy.

I recently celebrated my 30th birthday at the Brass Coq and I must say I was quite impress with the venue. Mikey and the staff were all amazing throughout the night and catered to all our needs. I had a group of 30 and the upstairs venue was perfect. Great food, music and the location was spot on! Thank you to all at the Brass Coq for making our night and we will definitely be back real soon!

The Brass Coq lives up to its name - it's brassy and it's cocky and its modern Vietnamese menu is finger-licking good if you're willing to pay $7 for a single rice paper roll or almost 1.5 times the price of a typical bowl of pho. The menu is split up in the oh-so-typical format of little, small and bigger plates (which I personally dislike because I'm greedy and I don't like sharing... unless I have food envy... lol). The grilled pork loin w lemongrass was one of the bigger plates ($22). It was tender and juicy and had a nice lemongrass flavour to it. It came with a slow-cooked egg, pickled salad and this crumbly, savoury 'dirt' as a garnish.

Vietnamese verve and value. The Brass Coq is a busy city brasserie with a strong standard menu and succulent specials. A friend who has moved to the area discovered this great place which l now have had the pleasure to share. Can't recommend enough that you do too.

Three of us shared a back corner table next to the kitchen and an array of dishes. Five in total, this amounted to plenty of generous portions. The Vietnamese fried chicken was crunchy without being greasy and rather irresistible - we politely fought over the last piece. I loved the special of soft shell crab bao, served sandwich-style, and the punchy papaya salad. Pork belly bao (yes, more bao, we couldn't resist) were a good contrast of flavours and textures. I had high hopes for the stir fried eggplant especially after everything else. They were acceptable, not as fabulous as everything else. All that deliciousness came to $76 before tip with all three of us utterly stuffed full of food.

Service was smart and fast. We had to get one of us back to the office by 2pm for a video conference (from a 1pm booking) and it was done fine. Whilst a glass of sparkling or champagne (the good stuff - up to $21 a glass) was tempting, we had to pass this time but coming back soon is definitely on the cards.

I was here the other night with some friends. Bar is on the top floor and the restaurant being downstairs, which makes the transition very convenient for those after a few drinks followed by dinner. Bar is cosy with nice comfy couches and atmosphere. When it comes to the restaurant, food consisted of authentic viet-inspired dishes and mainly came in the form of tapas - apart from the 48 hour cooked Pho, which I have yet to try. The dishes that stood out during the evening included the Wagyu Beef and Chicken Wings. We were also served by great staff who always had our glass filled with water and always came to check on us after each meal.

A very cute and stylish eatery in the outer skirts of the CBD ideal for dinner dates, birthday parties or hang out with friends and family. Staff are friendly and very attentive to your needs. This place is one of the best I've been to for Viet food. The flavours are just right and not too overpowering. My favourite dishes would be the wagyu steak that just melts in your mouth and the corn adds a sweetness to the dish. The chicken salad is so fresh and very filling. For dessert creme brûlée is my favourite it comes with a sweet crispy cracker on the side. If you need a place to just hang out the bar upstairs is the place to go with a very chilled and lay back environment. They do have a bar menu for food also if you're feeling peckish whilst having a few drinks have some smaller bites like the VFC little bites of fried chicken or the braised pork belly bun. I Highly recommend this place 😊

It always has me coming back! - I’ve been to TBC a few times now and it always offers the best customer service and a really warm and inviting atmosphere. The menu always has something new that I’m excited to try but I still enjoy the Pho and Papaya Salad when I don't know what I want. You’ll always be rewarded with great tasting food prepared by people with a real passion for what they do.

An absolute must! This is my favorite new eatery in town! Amazing food, great bar and super staff! Wow the flavors of the Vietnamese french influenced dishes were all beautifully balanced, I would particularly recommend the wagyu and the fried chicken - both delicious. I will definitely be back for more! The chill out bar upstairs has a really nice ambiance and is a killer spot to enjoy a few drinks - cocktails is a must! TBC is the sort of place you can settle in for the night have a good conversation and enjoy the great selection of alcohol at the bar.

Probably the best vietnamese gourmet on offer in the Melbourne CBD. The atmosphere is impressive, perfect for those looking to impress a date! Service was above and beyond expectations as my needs were constantly catered for and any questions about the menu or drinks were intelligently answered. Definitely recommend the VFC, banh bao and wagyu beef  to first timers - you will not be disappointed :)

Great new venue down the bottom end of the city. We've been a handful of times now and can't fault the service or the food! VFC is an absolute must-eat - It's delicious, melt in your mouth salty and spicy - yum! Wagyu on corn is another stand out and the pork belly rolls, delish!
There's shared style communal tables downstairs - not many tables, but it's worth the wait if you cant be seated straight away. Upstairs is cosy, there's a very cool bar area with comfy leather chesterfield sofa's - definitely hit up the extensive cocktail list.
We'll be back!

I never write these reviews but seriously, such a great place. Service was on point, not too in your face, more casual organised and just works. You never find yourself asking for service, its there before you need it, seriously impressive. I'm a big Vietnamese food person, its hard to impress me. I just got to say, the Vietnamese fusion is really amazing here. Definitely recommend, ill be coming here at least once a fortnight from here on. I took a business associate here on a Friday, and was planning to take him to another place on sat, he insisted we go here again on sat, its seriously a must. Love the cosy bar upstairs as well! nice and cosy atmosphere. Great work BrassCoq!!

The moment you walk in to The Brass Coq you are instantly wowed by its decor and ambience (french industrial almost?). The reason i mention this is i felt under dressed as I had just rocked up in my gym attire while my husband was nicely suited up after a long day in the office. The waitress was inviting and well versed when it came to items on the menu. The food was nicely presented without being pretentious. We ordered smaller dishes to share (papaya salad, VFC, pork belly bao and bo la lot). Do not be fooled by the small menu as the flavours from each dish develop and compliment other dishes. Compliments to the staff and chef!

What a fabulous little place! Super fresh vietnamese fusion food with great great great (did I say great?) service. Reasonably priced and a good wine/beer list. There is not a lot of room, however one large table downstairs perfect for communal dining in a large group. Upstairs bar which feels like you have transported yourself back to colonial times somewhere in SE Asia. Just a very cool place & food.

Authentic Vietnamese street food in Melbourne has traditionally been found in suburbs such as Richmond and Springvale, with CBD venues typically limited to franchises such as Roll’d and Baget which have more of a fast food feel to them. As a result we were very interested when we were invited by The Brass Coq to sample some of their menu options.

Hidden Gem !! Vietnamese food with a tasty twice !!. Atmosphere is really nice and cozy. Service was quick and food came out not long after we ordered. Value for money wise, its a tad on the expensive side of the scale given the portion size but it just means you can order more and leaves room for dessert. It's definitely worth venturing to the other end of the city to try. Definitely will be back again.

This one's a keeper. I ate here on a Monday night and it was just gorrrgeous. Kudos to the guys who made over this space, it really had some great design elements and ambience. Just loved the energy and vibe and the use of artwork upstairs, oh and Aesop skin products in the bathroom, if you don't mind!! And for the food ......10/10...Oxtail was melt in your mouth and the eggplant dish was to die for. Service friendly and attentive. Definitely going back

Likes it!!!. Have eaten here twice in the last week, first time was on a Thursday afternoon with a shocking hangover, the rare beef Pho (with lots of chilli) did the trick and fixed the hangover issue. My Classic Pho dish served with rare thinly sliced premium beef in beef broth; sensational!!!! I always judge my pho by the Beef & whole flavour of broth ; the broth was flavourful & extremely nice, and beef was tender. Not as gigantic or low priced as some other places, so I reckon it's definitely worth the value and I'm glad to have it nearby in CBD. It was possibly the best pho I have ever had! We will definitely be back for more.

Eat there again this week and had the Pho & Crispy Chicken Rib (?); absolutely great, loved the whole thing; this would be one of my favourite restaurants in CBD; After seeing some of the other Vietnamese dishes on the menu I'm looking forward to trying more from the menu when the weather warms up :)

Everything was fantastic; but our only issue with the place was waiting staffs; as our table was not provided equal service like others: (If I spend more, probably they will pay more attention? Just hope.

The premise of The Brass Coq is to take this concept of sharing, creating a new Vietnamese eatery and bar with a French colonial influence. Taking authentic recipes from Mum and Grandma, the team at TBC have fine-tuned a modernised menu that is a combination of old and new. Admittedly, the menu is limited, but quality beats quantity any day. With rotating specials and authentic flavours, TBC is a standout for modern Vietnamese in Melbourne. Personal favourites were the chargrilled Wagyu loin and fried custard Bao. We tasted the following: Housemade Crackling Prawn Crackers  Miles away from the pink crackers served at your local Chinese, TBC’s housemade prawn crackers were reminiscent of pork crackling – crispy with sprinklings of pork powder. These complimentary bad boys were addictive. Papaya Salad TBC’s papaya salad is simple and fragrant.  The combination of sour and sweet with cubes of fresh grapefruit, ribbons of juvenile mango and fried shallots provided additional texture and crunch. No disappointments here. Beef Wrapped in Betal Leaves Part of the barbeque repertoire of the Vietnamese, ‘Bo La Lot’ is ground beef and lemongrass wrapped in betal leaves. Typically grilled over a charcoal flame, TBC’s version was smoky and herbacious. The betal leaves seal in the moisture for extra flavour. Served with fish sauce and scattering of shallots, these skewers reminded me of our own family barbeques. Braised Pork Belly Bun Fluffy steamed bao’s encase a filing of braised pork belly and pickled veggies. Bao’s are all the rage these days and these have become a customer favourite.

Delicious Modern Vietnamese on Healy's Lane. A new restaurant that's popped up amongst a host of other creative asian restaurants around Healey's lane. We ordered dishes to share between three and were surprised by how delicious it was. The chicken salad and Pork buns in particular would be worth going back for. We also sampled a dessert made from Pandan that was killer!

I'd love to try this place again soon, easily worth the trip!

Great food and drinks. Good variety on the menu, food was very impressive, good selection of wines, good service, only in the early stages- regardless of this, still a good eating experience and good place to hang out for a good dinner and few drinks.
The pork bun is especially scrumptious! I can tell that this dish will become an "iconic" tbc dish in the near future!
Definitely would go again!
