On Valentine’s Day with 50% deal I can’t ask for more from this place. chilli chicken wings for entree and lamb shoulder BBQ chicken pizza with cold coffee is what I enjoyed @Nik. Bright simple decor, Sooper busy staffs and some delicious food is what u will experience at Nik’s..
Dined at Nik @ Nicholson using the dimmi 50% off deal. When we got there, it was 80% full with only one waitress looking after the whole place. I was a bit worried we won’t be getting our food for a long time. We were all pleasantly surprised how well everything worked out. Every dish we had was delicious and everyone was happy with their meals. The eye fillet was moist and tender, perfectly cooked. The chicken Parma was huge, chips were really fresh and crunchy. Pizza was excellent. Had a bottle of Shiraz. For $28 it was pretty good. Will be going back again to try other things on the menu.
Our experience began with seeing N@N on Dimmis specials 50% off food (fab deal 10/10 recommend) and it ended with us rolling out with wonderfully full bellies and smiles on our faces.
The calamari salad entree was quite overpriced and the rocket was overdressed in olive oil. Would prefer the mayo to be spread on the side rather than hidden below to avoid sogginess. Calamari itself was perfect. Soft and well textured, not chewy like so many restaurants have it and the batter was light, crispy and perfectly seasoned.
Although not traditional, the seafood paella was deliciosos but a little gritty. Probably needed to let the shellfish soak in water and let the sand wash out more thoroughly. Great blend of spices but the scallops were ever so slightly over cooked.
The marinated chicken salad was spot on.
To wrap it up, Nick (whose name may not actually be Nick) was a champ. Although they closed at 9pm never did they chase us to leave or even notify us that they were closing soon. Great sense of humour and great service.
Great service, the menu has excellent variety. We had one coeliac diner and staff were able to make burger gluten free they were very impressed with the generous portion size and great taste. I had stone baked pizza the Nik special, really good flavour. The base was not soggy and it was not overly greasy. Will be going back, definitely recommend for affordable tasty food!
Fast service and friendly staff. We went for family dinner. I had salmon and it was very large and tasty. My husband enjoyed his pizza and kids are all happy their meal but they are bit disappointed that there was no gelati for desert.
Love this place! Have been several times and the food is always delicious and fresh. So much variety and the staff are so friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend this place for a great cheap feed.
Excellent customer service and their homemade flatbread and pizza are the boom! 👍🏻❤️ definitely recommend people to order their pizza, great value with decent portions
Well executed classic dishes and was particularly impressed with the size of the salmon. Meal was made better with 50% off food with Dimmi’s.
Food was nice, staff was friendly. Service very good. I'm quite surprised that not so many people are coming along. This place is very underrated and needs to be popular.
Nice cafe, many food choices and the waitresses are very friendly. Only downside is the coffees are a bit weak. Overall very good food and good value.
I had the Pan-fried Chicken Breast with creamy pesto sauce, crushed potatoes and vegetables. Not sure what the chef added to the potatoes but it was very tasty. Courteous staff and good dining environment.
I love this place. The waitress we had both times I’ve been is very friendly, and didn’t hover too much but was always there when we needed her. The pizza has the most beautifully puffy crust, and the kitchen are very accommodating to item alterations. They also have Liven, which means I got 25% cash back on already well-priced delicious food.
Plain little place from the street and as you enter, but there’s nothing here that a minor remodel couldn’t fix. There were a few couples eating at 7pm and I was only stopping en route to my dinner engagement down the road. I was filling in time so I just grabbed a drink from here. Whiskey neat. The range was limited but perfectly adequate. It had a nice feel here so I’ve marked it down for a future food visit. In retrospect, I would have been better spending my hard earned here rather than at Two Tall Chefs down the road. The young server at this place was wonderfully polite and efficient - she’s a credit to the business - so it has to be a 4 not a 3 when I’d really prefer to award the mark in between. But, if you don’t allow half marks some of the marking subtlety is bound to be lost in these exercises. Such is life.
One of my new favourite hot spots to eat !!
Nik at Nicholson is definitely a must try eats of Melbourne.
The food with every bite was absolutely delicious, as well as the excellent friendly service, which made our whole experience even better last night.
Food portion sizes are a of a excellent size and so much so that I had to take left overs, as I didn’t want to waste any of the amazing food.
Love the lighting, seating and decor of the place and overall it out shines by a country mile too many of these overrated restaurants that I’ve been too and been left highly disappointed.
You can’t go wrong on the price either as this place won’t burn a hole in your pocket.
I’ll be coming back here again and again I predict in the future.
Thanks for a great night too, to all the staff and chefs.
Tonight my husband and I dined here with a Dimmi Voucher for dinner. The service was great, the women was helpful and very quick. I ordered the steak which was just delicious and my husband had the open sauvlaki. It was clean and had a nice atmosphere we will defiantly be going back.
Dined here with a voucher.
Spacious, relaxed seating, attentive service.
Started off with:
corn fritters (wasn't what I expected, but well seasoned)
Salmon Fillet - generous salmon, well cooked, lovely pesto
Slow Cooked Lamb Shoulder - beautifully cooked, beetroot puree was nice
Prawn Risotto - rice was a bit undercooked, but dish overall was tasty!
The food here was really nice and the service was super friendly. The menu is great value for money too. The only thing is the place could do with a little bit of a makeover to make it look that little bit nicer! I will definitely come back though.
Generous portion for the mains. Had the salmon fillet (delicious!! The smashed potatoes is to die for!!!) the cauliflower fritters (not worth it but ok nice), the cauliflower salad(quite delicious). The lamb shoulder is priced well and generous too! A very casual environment! Just go for mains and bruschetta (very generous portioned!!).
Went there on a dimmi promo. Had the bruschetta which was huge, pizza and lamb. The decor won't draw you in but the food and service will make me go back. It's not going to win awards or attract the hipster crowd but this is a great value restaurant (even without any promos) that serve solid food. Better than many places down at Lygon st that are far more expensive. If you want a solid meal that's easy on the wallet go there. Good for large family events. Also the lamb mains is great.
OMG was all I could keep saying, and that's an OMG in the best possible way. Compliments to the Chef who has more than 15 years experience working around Europe.
First impression was a cafe with cute wooden white chairs but the menu was extensive. We chose cauliflower as a shared entree and it came out on salad as small lightly battered pieces of cauliflower with dipping sauce.
Our mains were the same slow cooked lamb shoulder on a beautiful thin bread with yoghurt, beetroot dip, salad, beans and other. It was a very generous serve.
The waitresses were lovely and friendly and had the decency to check if everyrhing was ok. The dessert display options very tempting.
Thank you. WE WILL BE BACK.
Lovely place with delicious foods! We went on the Groupon voucher for a 3 course meal for two, and we were absolutely amazed by the taste and quantity of foods. The waiting staffs were friendly and attentive, plus the location was convenient, will definitely go back again!
Really nice little eatery in Carlton North. Were there for a quick dinner with friend and was very happy with the service and food. King prawn was very flavorful, and lamb shoulder was well cooked. Lovely presentation too. Price was reasonable for a good portion of food.
Very impressed for a cafe / restaurant these guys have done well. We came on a voucher for a mid week date night and the Bruschetta was enormous , tried the Spaghetti Marinara and the Spicy Penne. The house red was very drinkable!!
I often wish more cafes were open in the evening so we could get tasty food that’s not fancy or expensive in a casual and friendly environment. That’s what this place is! The starters really set a good tone. Garlic and herb flatbread, cauliflower fritters, and calamari were all absolutely delicious. The burgers, gnocchi, paella, and risotto were fine and generous. Maybe they try to do too many things, but gosh you could eat here every night and not get bored for a while. Wish it was my local.
This is a great place to eat. The staff are totally dedicated to making sure you have a fine time and are happy with the food. The menu is wide and well caters to gluten free and vegan friends we have taken there. Plus they are happy to customise a meal if necessary. Prices are very reasonable. We've eaten there probably over a dozen times and never had an issue. The cafe and the food are well presented, everything is clean and tidy and the staff could not be friendlier. It is our place to eat in that part of town.
Great Place! A must try. Clean restaurant with very subtle music. Friendly staff and Delicious food with great coffee. Will be back for sure.
As a religious pizza eater i am thoroughly impressed with their formula/recipe. Best pizza I've had in years. Great location and lovely staff! Can't wait to try everything else on their menu!
The staff are fabulous and the food is delicious. It's the best cafe on the block and the least pretentious by far. The food is fresh and yummy. Easy, friendly and perfect customer service. Love it!
Sometimes one wonders why a restaurant/bar is not TOTALLY booked out. This place is MAGNIFICENT!
We had a pizza and a marinated chicken/beetroot/pear salad. Both were delicious and reasonably priced. It is a new restaurant and is clean, neat, tidy and has impeccable restrooms. Service went beyond any expectations. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.
I've tried this place a few times now and every single time they exceeded my expectation. The food is amazing. You can tell a lot of effort has been put into both preparing and presentation. Both the chef and the staff are quite friendly and always made sure I walked out happy. We need more places like this in Melbourne.
We were staying in the area and was looking to order a takeaway pizza. It was so refreshing to try an authentic flavour in a takeaway that so often forgotten in the interest of mass produced food by numbers.
The base was light, allowing the quality toppings to stand out . Can definitely recommend this place.
Dined in at this beautiful and authentic restaurant for second time now last weekend. Invited some family along and it did not disappoint (and that's from an Italian family) .having been to Italy last year the food here really did take us back. We could of sworn we were sitting in little lane way in Rome while feasting on the amazingly cooked food. By far the best Italian food I have tasted in Melbourne.
I would highly recommend Nik@Nicholson to anyone looking for some authentic Italian food. The service staff is friendly and attentive too.
We will be back..
Fantastic food, great service and reasonably priced. This is a clean, well appointed and hidden gem. The kind of place locals keep to themselves.
I visited Nik at Nicholson cafe and i just wanted you to know what a delightful and just spectacular taste sensation it was and I will be back here every time I come to Melbourne from now on.
I haven’t stopped raving to my colleagues about what a wonderful meal it was. Service was superb, knowledgeable and fun and the food was delectable, mouthwatering, scrumptious..absolutely gratifying and fit for a king.
I get the opportunity to eat in many top ranked establishments in the city and across the country but Nik at Nicholson….was truly and enjoyable experience and ranks at the top of my reference list now. Thank you guys !!
A really good cafe - more of the locals should go there. Great coffee and food and really friendly staff. The French toast is fantastic and I'm especially fussy about French toast. All of the meals are interesting and look and taste great, and there's a good selection of vegetarian options. Nothing boring on the menu here.
Everyone's gotta try Nik@Nicholson... Great coffee and amazing staff.. :) I'm coming back with friends to try breakfast - everything looks amazing!!
Nik@Nicholson Cafe, Bar & Restaurant is a contemporary urban venue located in the northern suburbs of Melbourne. Its doors opened 5 months ago to offer Carlton North a suburban dining experience that people don’t have to travel to the city for. They cater for all occasions, whether you are out on a dinner date, celebrating a birthday or just looking for somewhere new for brunch with friends. With a range of shared and individual meals, beers, wines, spirits and cocktails, there’s something here for everyone.
We were very pleasantly surprised tonight, as this otherwise unassuming restaurant managed to excel in dishing out undeniably tasty meals influenced by a diverse range of countries.
The highlight for me though, was undoubtedly the Slow Cooked Lamb Shoulder, as the complex flavours and textures made for an absolutely stunning dish, both in looks and taste.
Ate here tonight with my wife after finding out it was no longer Grecian scenes we thought why not we'll give it a go! The staff were brilliant and very friendly our meals were amazing !! For entrees We ordered dips to share and got offered extra bread. I ordered porter house steak which came out perfect and my wife had spaghetti marinara which was full of flavours . We'll definitely be back and bringing our friends! Great food and great service we were impressed!
Went here tonight with my girlfriend and couldn't be happier to find this place. Generous servings of incredibly tasty food and excellent service. Will definitely be back. 🙂
nik @ nicholson is a newly opened cafe bar and restaurant , serving breakfast , lunch and dinner , located in nicholsons village this is the perfect escape from busy brunswick street etc.. . they have a very interesting menu elaborated by their highly experienced chef and you can defenetly taste the difference .
We have eaten here a couple of times. The staff are lovely people, service is great, atmosphere is pleasant and the food is very good. The steak is of excellent quality and cooked as requested. Paella was very tasty also. Nice dessert selection and great coffee. We'll be back again for sure and can recommend you try Nik@Nicholson out for your self.
Like the person before me, i Dont know why the rating Is so low with all reviews saying it Is such a great place. The Food was great with Very nice and Friendly service. Will be back again.
I'm not sure why the rating on this place isn't higher. Great food and even better service. The staff are lovely and all of the food tasted like it was made with care and effort. Highly recommend the pizzas and their secret menu spaghetti napoli. Will definitely be back!
Remarkable experience with food and service.
A bunch of choices for meat lovers. Burgers are my personal favourites.
One of the best dinning places in the neighbourhood!
The staff was Really friendly. The coffee was spot on. Food looked amazing and tastes just as amazing! The slow cooked lamb Is a signature dish for a fair price .
We came here for breakfast on a Sunday morning & split the bacon & egg sandwich & eggs benedict which were both delicious & fairly priced. The potato rosti & hollandaise in the benedict were especially yummy! The staff in here are super friendly & sweet, you definitely get that "homely" feel to the place & can tell the guys have put their heart and soul into it.
I had a great breakfast here, simple food done very well and at a good price point. Super friendly service and a nice change to some of the more 'hipster' restaurants in the area. The staff accidentally over charged me, but came after me in the street when they realised to give me some money back - I would definitely go again.
Good food, great friendly service, nice atmosphere. Paella was very very good.
Panacotta was very light and smooth, a great way to finish a very pleadeny meal.
