Ordered the fish and chips and it was lovely. The batter was so light and crispy and it was not your ordinary fish and chips. Love the outdoor setting facing the crown riverside walk
I have tried this place for a quick bite to eat a couple of times and the fish is pretty decent. It’s not your ordinary fish and chip spot. I especially love the fries and the different dipping sauces that you just can’t get anywhere else. #fishburger #fishandchips
The fish and chips and seafood here are quite fresh and tasty - they serve good pieces of fish and you can tell that these are well prepared. Regular fish and chip places would give you big portions that are reasonably good value for money; the portions here are quite a bit smaller if you compare it to those typical places, and slightly more expensive. However, when you consider that most of the content of regular fish and chip places are the pile of pretty tasteless chips, then the value you get here is starting to look ok. I'd say the portions are reasonably filling for what you get, and in terms of prices, they're likely about the price of pub fish and chips (or slightly cheaper). So when you factor in the good quality food you get (even the chips taste pretty good), then yea it's a decent place for a meal.
The one thing I'm disappointed with is, like just about everything that is of good value at Crown, they never seem to last long. This place used to have $1 Grandma Ethel potato cakes on Mondays. These potato cakes actually tasted pretty good and were a good size - we loved buying a few of these and would even take a 15-minute walk (one way) to come here to buy these. Alas, they probably decided there was too much value in that deal and it's no longer available. They're just potato cakes, throw us a bone once in a while why don't you?
Ambience wise, there's not a lot of seating but we don't usually have issues finding a seat here. The view is great and the tables are clean, and you might have some seagull companions eyeing your leftovers once you're done (that companionship may or may not be a positive thing for you).
We'd still come here if we're in the mood for good fish and chips at a (slightly above) reasonable price.
A solid fish and chippery run by the guys at the Atlantic, you can opt to sit in at their limited tables or take it down the Yarra to enjoy.
I had to get their Lega-Sea which had a little bit of everything. The seafood tasted fresh and was lightly battered and fried until golden. Housemade tartar, lemon and table tomato sauce gave you variance in flavours. The fish was flakey and moist, salt and pepper calamari was springy and not tough and the tempura prawns had a nice bounce to them. Dimmies were from South Melbourne and well, just tasted like dim sims but larger.
Despite eating a lot of fried goods including their crispy chips and potato cake I didn't feel as disgusted as I would with my local fish and chipperies. I can imagine this being a busy spot during the summer months.
The chips are amazingly crunchy and the fish is fresh. Loved the seafood chowder special!
Customer service can improve more, and be more friendly! (A simple smile can go a long way)
Great spot located on crowns riverwalk, serving great super fresh Food made to order. staff are friendly , great atmosphere
Highly recommend the barramundi amd Greek salad also the $1 Barra wings are a must available weekend.
On the waterfront is this fish n chip shop. It's got a great view opposite the aquarium hahaha
The service was good and the food came out cooked to order.
I ordered flathead fish (never flake) looked as good as it tasted. I just wish there was more! 3 pieces for $9.
I was stoked to see sweet potato chips on the menu and they were hot, tasty, crunchy and yummo! With a good seasoning.
Overall this was a good lunch and worth a visit if your in the area. Just look at the fish before you order is my recommendation.
Didn't realise The Atlantic had a little stall along the Yarra selling seafood to go! Absolutely loved this concept - perfect for someone like myself who wants something fresh and healthy but not overpriced/fine dining material within the Crown Complex!
Good selection on the menu - and what I particularly loved was the combinations with salads, and not just chips.
The green freekah salad with grilled salmon - lovely salad, well cooked salmon. Amazing! ($17)
BBQ corn and quinoa salad with flathead - the harissa on this salad really complemented the salad and the fish! ($15.50)
Sweet potato fries - lovely!
The other half thought the siracha mayo was too strong, I thought it was great!
A few bar stools and tables if you want to dine in. And while there was heating, it was a bit chilly (as expected for winter), so we got our food and ate it at the food court instead.
'Fish and chips' is no longer just 'fish and chips'... I can see this being perfect for summer!
This is my second visit to the Fish & Chippery and it would have to be hands down one of the best fish and chips I have ever tasted. The flake is so lightly battered and delicious and the chips are amazing it is worth the trip just to try them. On a previous trip I have also had the miso marinade rockling on squid ink brioche bun which was full of punch and the perfect size burger. Can’t wait to visit again.
Happened to be walking by the Southbank looking for a quick snack when I came across Fish and Chippery. It definitely is a great place to chill with a friend on a sunny day onlooking the Yarra river. Unfortunately it was raining that day and the seagulls were a bother but aside that the chips were crispy and well seasoned. Will be going there again when there is better weather and try new options!
We had the Flake Combo, Fish & Prawn Chowder and half a dozen oysters. The food (especially the oyster) is really fresh and chips are crispy. Great view by the river. Good place for a relaxing meal while enjoying a stroll down the stretch.
A really lovely spot by the river with a great view of Melbourne city. If it's a sunny day then this is the perfect place to stop for a quick bite. Not your ordinary fish n chips, they have various types of fish you can choose from and the fish burger is delish too.
This is our "local" fish and chip joint, closest to the office. They do amazing fish and chips here, with a huge menu for selection, the food is fresh and tasty.
We try to mix up our orders most of the time, our go-to's include the calamari and a combo of fish and chips generally the blue grenadier (hake), the Barra or the flathead fillets!
The is not a lot of outdoor seating so you may have to order it as a takeaway and go to the foo yet next door but if your lucky enough to score a seat on a great day, it can be nice to people watch the life of Melbourne along Southbank while tucking into fresh fish and chips!
It was a nice night, so the perfect reason to stop off for some fish & chips.
This is a great location looking out onto the river.
We decided to try a meal each - they were very generous with 2 pieces of fish. We could have shared one between two particularly as we ordered the salt & pepper squid 'entree' to try.
The fish could have been a bit browner, and of the flake & flathead, the flake was the fave. The chips were delish though. Great to have sauce & vinegar readily available.
Good range of drinks including beer & wine.
Service was awesome.
Have you ever been to The Fish and Chippery by The Atlantic? If you are a fan of super fresh seafood then this place is for you. With some of the tastiest seafood going around, it is a must for food lovers. After an extremely busy weekend, Andrea and I were psyched to have a tasty & relaxing meal, so we hit up The Fish and Chippery. With a menu so broad and delicious, we needed some help from the lovely staff to decide.
The Fish and Chippery is a port of the Atlantic restaurant group more of a take away fish and chips type. Its set up along Crown Promenade facing the Yarra with lots of cute outdoor seating options. Still pricy for what it is, but good variety and decent flavour. Cute little counter for orderingSalad selectionSeafood selection
Our friends recommended this place so we went on Tuesday night around 6pm, there were only a number of peole waiting, but within minutes the place was packed! We ordered fish and chips, homemade potato cakes, soft shell crab and salt pepper squid. The food came out within less than 15 minutes and they were yummy (not to die for), but acceptable. If you come during winter or windy day, make sure to wear your jacket!
Great concept, only a few seats but if you order take-away you can sit anywhere along the yarra. Seafood chowder was delicious, smoky and creamy with chunks of prawn and fish. The roll it was served in was crisp and delicious. Potato cake wasn't to my taste. Spying the meals of others who ordered fish n chips, yes the portions are smaller and the prices are higher, but gosh it looked so fresh and appetising. I personally don't mind paying more for quality, a repeat visit is in store for me.
Oh my goodness chowder YUM!!!! Everything is delicious but the chowder was something else. $14 for a bread roll full of goodness? I'll be back!
I ate some delicious fried barramundi and potato cakes a couple of weeks ago. The staff are very friendly and they give you a buzzer to wait. I waited about 5-10 minutes for the food. The price is high for a fish & chip shop but the food is fantastic. This is a great alternative to a sit down dinner in one of Crown's restaurants.
Soup in Sourdough !
Was listed in urban list "Melbourne’s Best Cafes Doing Delicious Winter Soups".
Yeah, I admit, its delicious ! The soup was creamy, full of mushrooms and quite a lot of prawns in there. Its not really expensive for a huge dish ($14). (cautions, its very hot ! Dont burn your tongue)
The place is outdoor. So be aware of the birds, they will watch you while you eat you food. People with long hair, bring a tie to tie your hair. If not it will be difficult to eat when its windy.
The guy there was friendly too !
Hope you guys enjoy your sourdough ! Cheers ! 😊🎉
(If you want to eat finish the sourdough, just fold the bread and it will be easier. But beware, the bottom of the sourdough is a bit bitter due to overcooked?)
Not just fish and chips!
Having visited the Fish and Chippery a few times now, it just gets better and better! Sure they have the usual supsects you'd expect at such an eatery, deep fried or grilled fish, chips, potato cakes, burgers, skewers, wraps, even salads!
Having had numerous items on the menu, I have never been disappointed and the quality, freshness and value for money regarding the offering keeps me going back!
To my surprise today, a new addition to the menu has arrived, seafood chowder! What can I say, this was a true joy to eat! The chowder itself comes in a large sourdough roll and contains pieces of shrimp, rockling, corn and a little chive on the top. A little sweated carrot and onion, plus a subtle hint of spice and my god, wow! The bread bowl itself was so delicious that I had to stop myself from eating all of that too!
Add to that a view of the Yarra River and some glorious Melbourne winter sunshine and it doesn't get much better, all for measly $14!
Keep up the good work!!!
This is a new venue of The Atlantic restaurant. Beer battered flake was so good, chips were a bit salty but still good. Great location of Yarra river. Helpful staffs. Worth to try!
Great location, lovely fresh seafood and salads.
Sit back and relax and watch the world go by...
Friendly staff and not too pricey!!
Healthy options available too!
Not sure why rating is so low, food was amazing. Crispy skin barramundi, crunchy chips and perfectly cooked calamari. Is a bit pricey but worth it.
The fish, chips and dips were great! However wasn't too sure about the salt and pepper squid. Couldn't really pin point what it was but my gf and I weren't a fan of the squid.
The service was also great, definitely worth a try if you are looking for something quick on the go.
Beautiful fish, perfectly battered and fried. A tad expensive but considering the location it's nice and worth it. Except the school prawns, they taste too much like batter because they're so small and covered in batter to be fried. I wouldn't really go for them again, the salmon, blue grenadier and calamari was gorgeous though. Will be back whenever I'm in the city and feel like fish n chips because there's no where else to go and this is a nice place.
Summer 2016 update:
Seems I wasn't the only one who didn't enjoy the batter drowned school prawns because Perry decided to 86 those buggers. The new menu is slightly different to last time I came but I tried the miso glazed rockling bun and it was good, a bit dry though (the bun fillings, not the fish) maybe some more slaw dressing or something. The fish cakes are awesome and the chips still are too. The salads are a bit pricey for the size you get but then again it is the Atlantic so what do you expect? At least the quality is there
Got the dory combo for take away and fully expected to find soggy mess by the time I got home 30 minutes later (as it usually happens to deep-fried foods). To my surprise, the fish coating remained crispy and my chips were positively crunchy. I don't think I've ever had such crunchy chips before, my friend could literally hear me biting into them. Everything was well seasoned and my dory was perfectly cooked. Will definitely come again.
Had the salmon and Greek salad-such an awesome, quick, healthy meal idea. Salmon was great but Greek salad definitely could have been better. Was very heavy on the lettuce and not so much any of the other ingredients.
If you want the freshest fish come here. Not frozen just fresh fish.
The grilled barramundi and mushy peas is so yummy and never disappoints.
Great service and efficient too.
Mary
Fresh and value for money fish and chips by The Atlantic. Loved their fried school shrimp and salmon. Convenient and prominent location at Southbank, friendly service. Will be back..
I got the flake combo today which had a flake, chips and a sauce. Cost of the combo is $15 which may be on the expensive side of fish and chips but I must say the meal was delicious. Flake was nice and fat cooked perfectly and had the excellent crunch to it and it went well with tartare sauce and lemon. Chips were nice as well had a great crunchy taste to it. Had a bottled drink as well so was around $20 plus $2 surcharge for public holiday.
