The ramen is always amazing; reminds me of Ippudo in Japan!

Landing several franchises in Australia, IPUDDO has a selective range of ramen and sides made with care in their quality produce. I am a foodie with an eye for cheap eats, hence the value for their menu can make me hesitate. Nonetheless, the distinct memory of their flavours will continue to keep me up at night until I am able to run back to this gem once lockdown is eased.
Seating can be hard to grab during dinner times. In addition, there are no bookings so you gotta be lucky to avoid waiting. To be honest, it’s all worth the wait. Its modern yet calm atmosphere and warm colours of timber gets you travelling back to Japan. Staff are friendly which mirrors the authentic service you would see in Japan.
We ordered a plate of pork buns and seared salmon aburi, plus a ramen for each of us. I ordered the classic tonkotsu ramen and every slurp had a satisfying buzz. It wasn’t too heavy on the mouth and the flavours were perfectly balanced. The pork, however, was so fatty and juicy I wish there was more. The ramen noodles, were pretty average, which was the only downslide.
Pork buns were amazing, as they know how to care for their meats, and the fluffiness of the milk buns just worked so well together to give it that perfect balance of porkiness and sweetness.
If I had to return, it would have to be for the seared salmon sushi with the cream cheese on top which I could not get enough of. The seared salmon could still melt on the tongue given the slightly crispy texture from searing the salmon. It was so light yet popping with flavours and textures.
Overall, the balance of flavours is something worth coming back for. I miss you Ippudo!
love the food and service at this place, however didnt like waiting outside in the cold probally offer free hot beverage or outdoor heaters. I cant wait to come back
I really like the atmosphere of the restaurant. The staff were very attentive and made the experience nice. The food was very very nice. Would highly recommend it.
Ippudo was very good overall! I liked the ambience and design of the restaurant as it felt very peaceful. I also think that the taste and presentation of the food was quite nice too. I’ll definitely be coming back here again!
Came once, had some delicious ramen and an entree of salmon rolls - the salmon absolutely melts in your mouth. Wanting to come back again!
OMG! First time trying @ippudo.au it was a really great experience. I had the - Akamaru Tamago with flavored egg / special ippudo tonkotsu broth & pork belly. This is the first time I gave 10/10 for a restaurant because the service was great & the food was delicious & authentic.

Akamaru Shinaji ($16)
⭐️ 4/5 ⭐️
🍴Haven’t had #ippudo in awhile and it’s still the same rich broth and tasty standards that I remember although the broth does get a bit too salty towards the end. The noodle texture can be chosen from soft-hard. The #akamarushinaji was the original tonkotsu broth enhanced with miso and garlic which I feel made it more layered and flavourful than just the usual pork broth. The char siu was perfectly tender and cooked and because of it’s more fatty nature, was soft and melt-in-the-mouth kind, although I personality prefer a less fatty piece of meat.

Yummy ramen and sushi. However, it is quite pricey for the size of ramen and sushi you get, and there is often a wait at peak times.
Great food. Great venue. Child friendly. Highly recommended! Been there many times with great service. Mostly during the day though, but im sure at night they would provide good service given the layout
I like the non ramen items more !! Will come again next week or when I have spare time !!! I recommend not coming during miday as it is peak time , it is better to come before 12 or after 2pm
Love the non pork ramen (veg and chicken broth ), ambience is nice very modern . Will go again for lunch when. I am free. Avoid 12.30 _1.30pm as this is peak time
I'd brag about their wagyu beef bowl alllllll day. I know this is a ramen store but look, they serve really high standard wagyu bowl alright. During my first visit, I had their ramem, which was good, as it wasn't as salty as all the other ramen places.
However, during my visit this time, I planned to try out something so I got this wagyu beef rice bowl. Oh boy, I couldn't have enough!! The beef was super tender, the egg made everything mixed so well together, the taste was savoury and delicious. Even thinking of it is making me drool now. I'd def go back for their rice bowl!
Their seared salmon sushi roll is exquisite! The ramen is also one of the finest ramen in Melbourne.
I went for the lot! Great ramen on a cold night.
Excellent ramen at reasonable price. Very good table service and a few dishes different from the same old. Wontons weren't too special and Japanese yam fries were ok. However the highlight was the ramen, tried the akamaru and shiromaru ramen...yum! There is no question I will be back, made it to our top 3 of ramen places.
Came here on a Saturday night, so waited outside for a bout 20 minutes before we could get a table. I like the modern Japanese minimalist decors, the seating is very comfortable compared to most of the traditional Japanese Ramen joints. I ordered the signature ramen with traditional tonkotsu soup. Where have I been this whole time? The ramen and soup instantly take me back to Japan. Pork gyoza are nicely cooked too. I have to mention the bao with crispy chicken. Although the chicken was a tad salty to my liking, but I have to say this is one of the best bao you can get from a ramen place in Melbourne. Worth the wait people, and I will definitely come back, soon.
After being put off by the perpetually long queues at Ippudo, we finally made it on a particularly quiet Saturday night. The setting was stylish and inviting. Even though it seemed almost frantically busy within, staff were calm, pleasant and efficient.
We had a range of their items. The ramen was delicious. Yes, it was at a premium but it was worth every cent. The tonkatsu broth was delicate yet filling. The noodles were cooked perfectly with just enough bite in them. Loved the pork buns. The pork was melt in your mouth delicious and the soft, pillowy bun encasing it was like a sweet cloud. The seared salmon sushi roll was fresh and plated beautifully. For dessert we had the matcha cheese tart. It was not too sweet and a perfect balance of flavours was achieved.
This might be a franchise, but Ippudo sure knows how things should be done!
Had the Akamaru Shinaji which was delicious - I like any ramen with a bit of extra garlic flavouring. I asked for medium noodles and they were perfect (right level of bounce), and they gave us complimentary eggs because our orders took longer than expected.
Weirdly enough, the ramen isn't what I come here for (sweatdrop)
LOVE:
🔸The baos are super soft, not the same as traditional baos but I rate it
🔸Juicy meats and great sauces in the baos
🔸The sushi is always a hit with me, I don't know what that sauce is, but it pairs amazingly with the salmon
LIKE:
🔸The staff were really friendly and attentive throughout the meal
🔸We had a share table which I don't entirely mind, had a couple of quips and comments with our table neighbours lol
Food was great!! Was super duper full because the portions were so generous and the little extras we got was amazing! We did have to wait a bit even though it was a week night but it is worth the wait and they are efficient in getting groups seated quickly. Can’t wait to go again!
The ramen was full of flavour, a very deep and rich broth and not overly salty. The pork was so tender it basically disappeared in my mouth. I added an egg which was slightly cold which was a little jarring when eating a hot bowl of ramen. The gyoza were tasty, nothing amazing but still good.
The ramen here does live up to its expectation and was excellent. I had the akamaru tamago (no. 6) - the broth was delicious, the noodles perfectly springy and the pork tender. The egg was slightly overcooked and I wouldn't have minded another slice or two of pork, but they were my only minor comments. The seared salmon sushi was a little disappointing, as the soy sauce at the bottom of the plate made the sushi too salty. But I would definitely come back to try their other ramen.
I absolutely love love love ippudo!
You get what you pay for, the ramen is so flavorful and the noodles has the perfect consistency. In addition to the gyoza and sushi! super good and juicy.
However, peak times often have long lines so come earlier / later if you want to avoid them!
We loved 😍
The ramen here is delicious and takes me back to japan!
I loved that you can choose the level of softness in your ramen noodles. The salmon rolls here are also a must try!
We disliked 😖
There is constantly a line outside during peak times!
Hands down the best ramen shop I've been to. Ordered the chicken ramen which I quickly finished because it was that good. I have a strong aversion to pork and I'm sick of being forced into eating pork or having a sad vegan bowl of ramen overfilled with bean sprouts and bamboo shoots. This is also GREAT for Halal customers. Customer service was nice and friendly too. I just wish there was a creamy broth for the chicken ramen too but it wasn't a deal breaker.
Ippudo ramen is good. The broth is thick and flavoursome. The serving size is a good portion. Not too small, large enough to feel satisfied. Save some soup for an extra serve of ramen if needed. Chicken karaage was juicy and flavoursome.
Service was good. They ensured our glasses were always topped up with water.
Ippudo thoroughly deserves its standing as the best ramen place around. Well balanced taste (not too salty) and portion sizes (good mix of ingredients and noodles). We left with tummies and appetites fulfilled.
My friend and I found this place for ages, there is no tips inside QV and the machine. However, the Ramen is so nice, will go a few more times.
Noodles were cooked to perfection and broth was flavoursome however it was on the side of salty. Service was great and prompt. Give it a go!
Got me rameniscing ‘bout the equally good Ippudo back in Malaysia... 4.5 ⭐️🇯🇵🇲🇾🇦🇺
Food: 8.5/10 (House Special TokiMaki (🤨?) ramen, Akamagu Tamago ramen)
Service: 9/10 (15-minute queue on a busy Thursday night @ dinner time)
Ambience: 7.5/10
Pricing: $
When we knew that Ippudo has an outlet in the Melbourne CBD we couldn’t be more thrilled! And because many chain restaurants gradually drop in quality once they go big, we’re so pleased that Ippudo is one of the rare chain eateries that still keeps it top notch! 🍜
The house special TokiMaki (can’t really remember the name) was excellent; its rich and flavourful spicy broth with generous sprinkles of diced red onion, tomatoes and self-made sour minced pork balls is probably one of the best dishes to warm up your belly during this winter weather 🍜🌶💖 One small slice of lemon also provided if you’d like a spicy-sour kick!
As for their famed Akamagu Tamago ramen, my friend is glad that they stuck to their recipe and didn’t change any of it — tastes just as good as the Kuala Lumpur outlet in Malaysia. Impressive.
But we all know the litmus paper test equivalent of determining whether or not it’s good ramen, is the softness of the chasu/pork belly — yup, they almost instantly melt in your mouth. This is good ramen.
Came here for the 1st time just after 6pm on a Wednesday night with a group of 5 people. There was a short queue line but no longer than a 10 minute wait.
The ramen is by far the best I've tasted yet. You have the option to choose the hardness of your noodles too. Serving portions are huge but pricing is a bit more expensive than other ramen places. Service was good and staff are very polite. The interior is pretty big and very cosy 😁
Definitely recommended 👍👍👍
Definitely my favourite ramen in Melbourne. Menu number 5, the one with soybean and garlic oil is heavenly! Service is very average and the shop can be noisy and cold.
I have been here twice already with groups of friends and the service is so respectful and polite. Food, the ramen, the steamed buns and the salmon rolls are melt in your mouth moments. Definitely quality food, authentic service. Will come back for sure.

I would have rated this restaurant 5 stars for the beautiful food and ambience. However, the staff brought it down to a 4 for me.
The restaurant feels like a little slice of Japan. Lovely wooden furnishings, lots of red hues throughout the space. It felt very opened and not cramped.
The food tasted quite authentic & flavoursome
Seared salmon sushi roll: This was a tasty starter. I enjoyed the smokiness from the seard salmon with the creamy mayonnaise.
Akamaru tamago: This broth was rich and flavoursome. The noodles were a nice medium texture, not to firm but not too soft. The miso paste added an extra umami/salty richness to the soup. The egg was cooked perfectly.
My friend and I were seated on the large table next to each other. It was close to the door on a cold night, so we politely asked to be moved to a table further into the restaurant, as it wasn't near full at all, and also so we could see each other. The staff member seemed reluctant to move us. The staff didn't feel very friendly or welcoming. The food didn’t take too long to come out which was a positive
Real rating 4.2 ⭐️
We had visited Ippudo on a cool winters night and here’s what we had!
Beef sagari yaki - tender angus beef with fried enoki mushrooms! The beef was super tender and juicy and had such nice flavors! What made it better was the fried enoki on top (I love enoki mushrooms) which gave it an extra crunch!
Karaka-men spicy tonkotsu - this was the spicy ground pork miso broth (warming for those not able to take spicy food)! The broth was rich and creamy and the noodles were soft and thick which made it nice to slurp!
Akamaru shinaji ramen - this was a tonkotsu broth mixed with miso paste and garlic oil giving it a blackish appearance! This was my favorite broth for the night as you could taste the naturalness of the broth and the miso paste did truly add a yummy kick to it! You would think that the broth would be extra salty with the miso paste and garlic oil but surprisingly this was not the case!
We had a fun night at Ippudo and would go back to slurp some more noodles regardless of the weather!
My partner and I stopped in by Ippudo with her family and were lucky to be seated right away (normally there's a long queue, it's that popular!)
We ordered a few appetisers - takoyaki, yam fries with soy mayo, and two salads. For the mains of course, we chose ramen - akamaru and bonito tonkotsu. Both were creamy, perfectly balancedq and full of umami. The salmon poke and kale salads were a perfect tasty refreshment to compliment the richness of the ramen.
We felt the food was great value, and the staff were very polite and attentive.
For a place that specialises in ramen, I was impressed with the extensiveness of their menu. Everything was fantastic, and we couldn't fault a single element of their dishes. We will be returning!
Was here one cold evening and chose to have the Karaka Ramen along with some fried chicken. Both tasted amazing! Loved the texture and how it was presented. Also, since we were in a Ramen place for the first time, we planned on tasting one bowl first and then see if we wanted another one.
The staff was kind enough to let us have a share bowl so that we could divide the portion for both.
Chicken was great... I think it's one of their specialities. Do try.
Overall.. it was a good experience.. however, gave out 4 stars because the next time we went there for a take away (ordered the same Ramen) and it tasted slightly different. I couldn't enjoy it much. Can't say if it was because of the take-away or what, but I was hoping the same flavour.
Flavourful and depth broth, visited in the late afternoon around 3pm and it was still number of hungry seekers in store. The menu is simple not many Ramen selections you can choose from. The pork bun is working with WonderBao y'all know it going to be great! Adding extra noodle just $1 dollar which is absolutely good news for me, quite amount of noodle just feed me perfectly lol😂.
You wouldn't expect the side dishes in Japan but whoever brought the brand to Australia is brilliant and hopefully the more menu items r coming up!
STAY TUNED👊
Inlove! The closest thing to authentic Japanese ramen I’ve ever had in Melbourne!! Honestly delicious and the service is so lovely! I can’t wait to come back again and get another huge bowl of ramen!!
Possibly the second favorite ramen place in the city. Chicken Kaarage, Pork bun and Gyoza are really good. Takoyaki is good as well but will probably be better if they are more generous to the sauce. The ramen is a but bland. I'm expecting more creamy or rich broth.
I've been to this place a few times and I really like it! The lighting is quite dim and can get noisy when crowded, but the atmosphere is nice and so is the food! The ramen is a little bit on the pricier side for the size (compared to other joints like Hakata), but the charsiu is always melt-in-your-mouth and the broth is always creamy! My friend found it a little bit salty and rich for her liking, but I thought it was fine (just slightly richer than other places). Would definitely still go back though!
Ippudo is possibly my favourite ramen restaurant simply because of the salmon restaurants and wide selection of dishes other than ramen. And of course the ramen here is delicious. The salmon roll is slightly seared and topped with a creamy sauce and tobiko and the combination of textures in your mouth is just heaven. I’ve tried most the sides here and my favourites have to be the pork bao, chicken wings, salmon roll and raw beef. When it comes to ramen I usually get the original but recently I’ve tried the spicy ramen which I think I like more. The black ramen is nice but quite sweet so personally I’d prefer the original or spicy. The service here is also great. If you plan to visit, try to avoid peak times as wait times can be quite long.
Love the noodles and the tonkotsu broth is perfect especially during cold weather. The service and quality of food is always fresh and consistent. I especially love the flavour of the Akamaru Shinaji.
If you go for lunch they have lunch deals; I particularly love the one that comes with gyoza.
Late post: dined during their ippudo Qv 1st anniversary. Took advantage of their “thank you price” $10 for a bowl of world famous shiromaru motoaji and akamaru shinaji. One of the best tasting ramen I’ve had here in Melbourne. #knowramenknowlife
Who doesn’t love ramen?
Originally from Japan, broth tastes exactly the same with the one I had in Tokyo. This place is specialised on the tonkatsu broth.
My fav is their Karaka-Men with Karaka Tamago and Chashu
If you want to avoid the queue, come between 3-5pm.
Oh one last thing, the Chashu Gohan is a must too!
The only downside from this place is their prices. I am not sure how, but they are more expensive compared to the other ramen restaurant. But.. they are really good. So treat yourself and forget about the wallet once in a while.
Love the food here, both ramen and don are delicious. Ramen broth has just enough kick of the pork taste, and the chasu is melt in your mouth
The taste of Ramen, Chicken Karaage and Gyoza were excellent, staffs are quite friendly. The location is well located in the heart of CBD, where people are easily to access there. Will come back again!
One of the more authentic ramen places and a usual joint for me. Broth is delicious and filling and the noodles are a good texture. The side dishes are fairly good too and a good complement!
New to Melbourne last year was ramen giant Ippudo and I for one think it’s high time for some more ramen competition in this city. The initial crazy queues for the place might have dissipated but it’s a pretty tasty experience that ranks there with Hakata Gensuke and Shujinko. Of the three it seems to have least wait too. And that’s because it is a massive restaurant which may also be one of its undoings.
Another good ramen place in Melbourne. You might probably have to wait for a bit if they are busy, but the service is pretty quick, you don’t have to wait too long.
Ordered the salmon sushi rolls, bonito ramen and vegie soba. Food was delicious and service was great, ambience was really nice and cosy 👏 it was quite busy during lunch time 🙂
Been to ippudo a two times now, sometimes skip it because of the long lines as I don't think it's really worth the wait in the windy Artemis lane.
We both got a bowl of Akamaru Shinaji Ramen, love my noodle hardness a little chewy so I get them 'hard' which was awesome that you can decide how hard it can be. The soup was really flavoursome, love the garlic oil. The only thing I will mention is that the serving isn't huge and bowl isn't cheap at 16 dollars. So we also ordered a side of seared salmon sushi roll with spicy cod roe mayonnaise. Definitely recommend this. It's an explosion of flavour in your mouth, soo creamy! Perfect for any salmon fans.
Will be back cause they have good food but probably not if they have a line.
Been to Ippudo both here and in Sydney multiple times. Have been to Japan but haven’t tried it there. Was here when it first opened in QV and the queue was ridiculously long. Second time around and it isn’t as busy anymore. Quieter than the Westfield Sydney one. I have to say I quite like the variety on offer not just in the ramen but the selection of sides and other main items. The noodles in the ramen are always perfectly cooked to order and the kaedama(extra noodles) is very reasonable. I quite like a rich broth and their soups are very good. All you need is a good bowl of ramen, maybe a side dish or bun and a nice cold beer. They also have seasonal specials at times. One of the better ramen places and while on the pricier side, is of high quality. Definitely one to try if you haven’t already.
Came here for lunch on a Thursday and it was pretty busy. Food was pretty good, got the spicy ramen and it was a good level of spice. Only downside was that the table was really small so me and my party felt really squashed. Service was good
Ippudo was a Japanese restaurant located at Q.V., specialising at ramens. I loved the ambiance; dimly lit, modern, wooden themed. The ramen was still not comparable to that of Hakata, but everything else was simply amazing; pork bun, salmon sushi roll, gohan, even their Nutella choc pot dessert! The line could be pretty long but it was definitely worth it.
The service was nice where staff were warm and friendly. Seems like the place was understaff as we had to wait a while to have our orders taken. When serving us they remembered who ordered what dish which was great. The dishes we had were nourishing and revitalising. Would recommend if you’re not sure where to eat in Melbourne CBD.
I went here for lunch with my wife, it was simply awesome.
The broth was amazing, pork melt in your mouth, was unbeivable, top it off with a tap poured Asahi Super Dry and you have the best combination.
Let me just say, the bowl was completely emptied/cleaned, i was not leaving a single thing in the bowl it was that good.
One of the best tonkotsu broths I have had in Melbourne.
Also love that they have Asahi black on tap here!
The few times I have been here service has always been good. If you come during peak dinner times (especially weekends) be prepared to wait in the queue.
We had a great meal!!! The chashu Ramen was flavourful and delicious!!! Great choice of wines (try the yuzo one... It's so good). The staff was very friendly and helped me to choose the right noodles for my ramen.
Thank you 😊
