Reviews Migo's

My friend and I were wandering around the city looking for a comfortable place to sit down and have a drink. We came upon a small empty cafe which gave off cosy vibes. The cafe was attached to this lounge area of a hotel. I ordered an ice-chocolate which was a reasonable price considering there was ice cream instead of ice. It tasted different from most as it tasted a lot like vanilla and there was a powdery aftertaste. Since we went when it was empty, it was really quiet and the service was fast. The cafe size is quite small and simplistic. I would recommend going here if you are in this part of the city.

I have eaten at Migo’s several times and have consistently had a great experience. The seafood pasta (to die for) definitely lives up to its name! While the quantity of seafood may vary between visits, you are always guaranteed a delicious, comforting and generous bowl of pasta. The service is also very friendly and attentive.

Having been a long time customer I don’t think I’ve ever been disappointed after a meal at Migo’s. The food is topped only by the extremely friendly and welcoming owner who sometimes gives us free cakes 🙂

My go to dishes are the seafood pasta (they can also make it as a risotto if you ask!) and the meatball spaghetti. I don’t think I’ve had a better Italian experience in Melbourne compared to Migo’s.

What a wonderful little cafe tucked away. I am pretty sure I was served by Migo himself for a late afternoon   latte that was spot on as well as a fresh and flaky Portuguese tart too. With jazz music playing softly in the back ground it felt so relaxing. I need to come and try lunch for sure after reading all these positive reviews.

An old school cafe, the breakfast menu is standard but during lunch they dish out some solid Italian dishes. The menu is all on the chalk board and we couldn't pass up some pasta, very affordable compared to other eateries charging an arm and leg for a bowl.

I get their spaghetti meatballs, generous portions in a very rich tomatoey sauce. I would have preferred the pasta to be more al dente but I very much enjoyed my bowl with the meatballs tender and flavoursome. On the side they give you some extra parmesan cheese and chilli flakes if you want that extra kick. Bread was perfect for mopping up that sauce.

The owner was happy going from table to table giving us ice cubes for our water as it was scorching hot out there. He later than gave us some complimentary Portuguese tarts, how nice. They were slightly flakey on the bottom and the custard was more dense and sweet than your usual Chinese egg tart.

I'm not sure about this history of this place but it seems like it's been around for awhile with the original owner. Hope it sticks around for awhile yet.

Just wandered into this place because it's close to my work. Hands down the best seafood pasta I've ever had, and all pastas less than $20. Also, cant fault the service from the owners. Hidden gem.

Truly was utopian. Atmosphere was warm and inviting, just what someone needs on a cold winter’s day.

Ordered a spaghetti with meatballs, and it came to the table fairly quickly and with the option of chilli flakes and Parmesan to add to customise taste.

Meatballs were soft, melt in your mouth with a pod firm bite, the noodles and the sauce melted together perfectly giving that sweet spot between sweet and bitter one gets with a good pasta sauce.

Owner was friendly, refilling my water once it had cleared and checking with me regularly to ensure my satisfaction.

Really perfect Italian restaurant, and the food has a slight edge in terms of price and flavour. Would recommend very highly.

Cosy Italian cafe run by Migos himself who is very attentive and friendly. Pastas are delicious and a very generous size. This place gets pretty busy at lunch, but we were lucky we didn’t have to wait at all for a table of 2. Would go back again

The place to go if youre after good pasta in the city for lunch. Ordered the penne with mushroom cream sauce and requested vegetarian, the nice old man i think its the owner was kind enough to add pumpkin spinach into my pasta how thoughtful! Gave me a full bowl of parmesan cheese and chilli flakes even came to my table to refill water twice! Great service despite busy hours hands down

Migo is the best in Melbourne. Best customer service and the nicest smile

He has been the face of this ironic cafe for so long its amazing how he does it all. He has some of best lunch options and coffee around.

I'm always dropping in for an egg & bacon bagel with a coffee.

Takeaway or stay and read the paper you will be impressed

The “Best Seafood Pasta” was pretty darn good! One of the best I can remember having but then again I’ve never been to Italy! 🤷🏻‍♀️ The most impressive thing about the seafood was the freshness of the seafood -you can taste the calamari taste from the tender rings and it wasn’t the watery taste you get from frozen tubes, the fish was firm and flaky and the mussels were juicy! The portion is quite generous -I got 2 mussels, 3 prawns, 3-4 calamari rings and lots of fish pieces throughout. My only quip is the slice of bread tasted a bit stale but sufficed for mopping up the delicious sauce! I will definitely be back and hopefully I will be able to try the octopus ragu (it wasn’t offered today). I do believe this restaurant to be traditional and fresh, no doubt a great find and like others have mentioned very inconspicuous and hole in the wall type of place 👍

Been to one of those old school hole-in-the-wall cafes on Flinders Lane ‘Migo’s Industrie’ for team lunch. If you don’t look properly, you’d think this is just another Melbourne coffee shop. But inside is a little Italian pasta restaurant served by elderly Migo himself. I don’t really do long food reviews, but I highly recommend this hidden gem if you’re looking for a pasta hit. For less than $20, you’d get a warm bowl full of saucy al dente pasta 🍝 For more pasta recommendations, follow Pasta Of Melbourne who took us to this spot!

It's a tiny cafe, so be on the lookout or you may miss it. The old man that serves and takes the order is very sweet and hospitable. Makes you want to come back. They have very homely feel and an interesting list of blackboard menu. Coffee was a bit too hot for me, not how I usually like it however loved the Portuguese tart and semonila porridge. I would like to come back to try their Omlette and pasta next time.

Comfortably one of the best value pasta places in Melbourne - old school, rustic, classic Italian venue. For $17 you can get a great pasta - on this occasion I had the lasagna which had all of the 'bells and whistles" ie béchamel source, aromatic Napoli flavours etc. If you start to go multiple times, Migo will give you a complimentary homemade Turkish delight which is a lovely touch. Strongly recommend

The best seafood pasta I have ever had in my life. I have been here for the last 9 years and the pasta never fails to amaze me.

Migo who runs the restaurant is the cutest most beautiful man ever. He always greets us with his smile and is always so polite.

Best pasta, best service, it's the place to be. I've introduced all my friends to Migo's and they all agree!!

I could seriously do 2 bowls at one time. Just amazing!

I've been getting my take away coffee from Migo for years and now that I've retired from work, I meet friends for a coffee inside; occasionally I'll eat there as well. The coffee is always excellent as is the food. Migo ia an absolute gentleman and the service and attention cannot be faulted. Love this place!!

Review from February 2017
I stumbled upon Migo's during a lunchtime walk, drawn in by the chalkboard's promise of "seafood pasta to die for" plus a selection of other classic pasta dishes. It's a bustling, no-frills, blink-and-you'll-miss-it cafe with an Old Melbourne feel, about as far removed from hipster food trends and million-dollar fit-outs as you can get. I believe the elderly gentleman serving me was Migo himself. It won't be the most awe-inspiring pasta of your life, but it will be unpretentious, affordable and fast.

Migo's is old school but for all the right reasons. Blink and you can miss it, it's a small shop on flinders lane.

I was in the city early and desperate for my caffeine and morning brekkie fix when I walked past this unpretentious, warm and cozy place. The place was already filled with people on a chilly Melbourne morning.

I ordered my usual cappuccino and eggs on toast. The service was fast, attentive and most of all warm and friendly. The sweets on display looked delicious and the menu on the board showcased good old hearty Italian pasta and food which I will return one day for.

Coffee treated with love and food cooked from the heart. My morning start can't be any more beautiful.

Migo's is a small hole in the wall cafe on busy Flinders Lane with tables that spill into the arcade next door. Given its discreet shop front and the ubiquitous display of cakes and a coffee machine in the window, it would be easy to pass by thinking it's another Melbourne coffee shop. The menu is a blackboard on the wall and it serves breakfasts but the secret is, it also serves wonderful pasta dishes just like Nonna makes.

Came here for lunch w some friends. Love the old school set up, if you didn't look properly, you'd think this place is just a cafe w sweets, but inside is a little Italian pasta restaurant.
The menu is written on the wall, and it's all so homey. I ordered the seafood pasta to die for... I was intrigued by the name so I ordered it.
I really enjoyed my meal, the seafood was cooked just right and it was tasty. It's not fine dining by any means, it's comforting and loving.
I will definitely return!

My friends had the "seafood to die for" and it looked brilliant. I wanted a taste but they wouldn't give it up. I had the risotto and unlike MKR this place know how to cook it. The food was served in 5 minutes so you couldn't complain.

It's a small place so when it's busy it's crowded

Migo's is a small hole in the wall on Flinders lane, it's small...we walked passed it trying to find it. Lucky we got our bearings and found it! It's well rated for lunch but we had a late breakfast of avo on toast and poached eggs. Best poached eggs I've had in a while. Really good coffee and tea. Inside decor is dated and simple, adds to the charm. Appears to be a old school family run business. Staff friendly, service quick and super efficient. Food was fresh, hot and served promptly. Prices are very affordable for the cbd. Would highly recommend.

Migo's is a tiny little lunch spot in Flinders Lane, somewhat reminiscent of the iconic Pelligrini's on Bourke Street. Mediterranean food, with a focus on Italian pasta, seems to be the go here. It was pretty busy at lunchtime, which is always a good sign. The waitress managed to quickly assign me to a table despite being under the pump and take my order. Although I had heard about their famous "Seafood To Die For' pasta, I wasn't  quite in the mood for it on the day, so I went for the relatively safe choice of Spaghetti Bolognese instead (boring, I know). The spaghetti was al dente and perfectly cooked. The ragu (sauce) on the other hand wasn't bad but seemed to lack salt and was a little on the acidic side for me. To its credit however, it was made out of pulled slow-cooked meat, not the lazy mince option, and tasted fresh. All was however easily remedied by asking for a bowl of parmesan cheese (a generously sized bowl brought over by the owner himself), which I sprinkled liberally over the pasta. This seemed to balance the  flavours up. Overall, it wasn't a bad meal, but could do with a little more seasoning. Price was mid-ranged- expect to pay around $14-$17 for a pasta. The service and atmosphere however was very good and lively and it had a rustic, homely feel to it. Will give it one more shot - next time, its signature dish.

Migo’s Seafood Pasta to Die For
In this delightful bowl, you get a selection of spicy mussels, calamari and prawns. But the “hero of the dish”, as they say in Masterchef, is the fish. Trust me, seafood-haters (and seafood-lovers) it lives up to its name.

The Seafood Pasta to die for is really to die for.... I have been eating Migo's "Seafood Pasta to Die For" since 2009 and I'm not going to stop eating that anytime soon as it is simply delicious! He is absolutely the sweetest man and makes a mean coffee and delicious baklava! (And I don't even like baklava!)

Great Place. Been there twice; once for Fri morning breakfast and another for coffee close to Fri lunch time.
Breakfast was a great experience; delicious omelette, strong toasty coffee and sweet/courteous service from the lovely older gentleman who seemed to be running place.

Fri lunch time coffee was a little different. Catching up with long lost friends, so there was a lot of chit chat for the 3 coffees.
But there was another older gentleman ( grumpy) assisting in the cafe and he actually asked us to leave after 40 minutes to make space for his lunch rush.
understand the logic, just didn't love the way it was communicated.

Just ate breakfast at Migo's and loved it. Amazing price for the portions! The place seems like it's been there for ages. It's clean, has a good menu selection and the staff are kind. The other diners seemed like regular customers and addressed the grey-haired man at the front as Migo. I will definitely be returning! If you get the chance check out this hidden gem and show so some support for hardworking, longtime locals.

Best Coffee in Melbourne. I enjoy Migo's coffee each week day. Migo is lovely and makes a brilliant coffee. The muffins are delicious but my personal favorite are the chocolate fondant mini cakes, they melt in the mouth and are topped with raspberries. Migo's breakfasts are also amazing, I would highly recommend the sago porridge with the rosewater (very filling). The panini's are to die for- particularly the burger, great flavor and accompanied by a delicious salad.

Looking forward to tomorrows coffee already!

The Best and in Need of Support!. Migo's is the crown jewel of the Melbourne CBD. The owner is the most friendly man who does an amazing job running the front of house on his own, plus the food and coffee are incredible. A great find. The coffee was hot and strong, the scrambled eggs came on a favourite bread (I think it's a soft, chewy ciabatta but might be a white sourdough) which was toasted and drizzled with olive oil.

If I'm not mistaken, the pear and banana atop the dense, fruity muffin was a little suggestive?

The decor and setup is old-school, as are the gentlemen proprietors, and I love the place.

I'll be back!

Cozy little cafe for breakfast & lunch. Highly recommend the seafood pasta. Scrambled egg is always nicely done, soft and creamy. Migo is very attentive. He might seemed doing things randomly, but he is always in charge. Coffee is good but not great. (Tip: I avoid having coffees on Monday morning, as this store closes on the weekends, the flavour escapes from exposed coffee beans, I find the coffee becomes less flavour on Monday)
